Wrestling Observer Live: Can Cody maintain his WrestleMania momentum?

Wrestling Observer Live Saturday with Jim Valley is back for WrestleMania weekend.

WWE has a lot of momentum heading into this weekend, but there are questions: Will Cody Rhodes maintain his popularity or will we see fans’ reaction to him change like it did in AEW? Even if the excitement over the Sami Zayn vs. Bloodline story wanes, there’s a lot of young talent ready to make their mark. When you look at the roster, WWE looks to be in very good shape.

Plus, ROH, the WWE Hall of Fame, Konnan, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, and much more.

Wrestling Observer Live: Coping with the Roman vs. Sami finish at WWE Elimination Chamber

Saturday is an important day for both WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling with Elimination Chamber and Battle of the Valley, respectively.

Both events have lots of questions.

How WWE will get out of Sami Zayn not winning the Universal title from Roman Reigns without alienating fans? I look at the history of WWE and Triple H not giving fans what they are clamoring for.

Mercedes Mone makes her NJPW in-ring debut, so what does she need to accomplish for it to be seen as a success?

Plus, news and thoughts on Bray Wyatt, Uncle Howdy, Ariel Helwani, CM Punk, and more.

Wrestling Observer Live: Does WWE really listen to their fans?

It’s Saturday and that means Wrestling Observer Live with yours truly.

Hikuleo defeated Jay White in a loser leaves Japan match Friday in NJPW, so what does this mean for White’s future? With both JONAH and White leaving, does it say something about NJPW?

WWE SmackDown laid the groundwork for this month’s Elimination Chamber while AEW Rampage built to this Wednesday’s Dynamite and next Friday’s “Slam Dunk” edition of Rampage.

Who will go into the WWE Hall of Fame in Hollywood this year? I think it’s got to be people who are big stars, WWE talent and very pretty. Let’s discuss.

WWE says they listen to fans, but do they really? All that and more on today’s WOL.

Wrestling Observer Live: WWE Royal Rumble fallout

I am back with another Sunday edition of Wrestling Observer Live discussing the latest in professional wrestling — led off by Saturday’s WWE Royal Rumble.

I run down both the men’s and women’s Rumble matches which saw Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley winning. I also discuss the biggest spots including marathon performances from Gunther, Ripley and Liv Morgan.

The main event saw Roman Reigns successfully retain the undisputed WWE Universal title over Kevin Owens, but the big story was after the match when Sami Zayn couldn’t bring himself to attack Owens. Instead, he turned on Reigns and the Bloodline, minus Jey Uso, made him pay. I break it all down and how I think this plays into WrestleMania.

Plus, I give my thoughts on the Pitch Black match, the Raw Women’s title match, the overall length of the show, and more.

Wrestling Observer Live: Did WWE SmackDown give a clue about the men’s Royal Rumble winner?

I am back with a Saturday WWE Royal Rumble preview edition of Wrestling Observer Live with so many questions surrounding this year’s event.

Will The Rock appear? What about Steve Austin? Will Sami Zayn somehow win the men’s Rumble match or will he play a role in the outcome in the Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens title match? Will Cody Rhodes be cheered if he wins the Rumble match? Will Naomi return? What is a Mountain Dew Pitch Black match anyway?

How many of these questions will be answered? How many more questions can be asked? Plus, I reveal a dark horse who could win the men’s Rumble and why based on Friday’s edition of SmackDown.

Wrestling Observer Live: Jay Briscoe, The Rock & WrestleMania, WWE Royal Rumble preview

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJenw0cQIf4

It’s Sunday and that means it’s time for another edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, available on YouTube or by clicking below.

The wrestling world was rocked this week with the tragic passing of Jay Briscoe. I talk about how the entire wrestling community came together to show support for his family — even though WBD didn’t want any kind of tribute on this past week’s AEW Dynamite.

Word came out this week that The Rock may not be ready for a match at WrestleMania. Is this an elaborate work or does it simply mean he will do something else on the show?

During the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 show in Yokohama featuring NOAH, Okada got into what appeared to be a shoot fight with Kaito Kiyomiya that set up what will be a very anticipated singles match. We discuss.

Plus, I talk front office changes in WWE, an early WWE Royal Rumble preview, The Great Muta’s last match, and more.

Wrestling Observer Live: Kevin Owens, Jay Briscoe thoughts, Mutoh vs. Naito

It’s Saturday so that means another packed 40-minute edition of Wrestling Observer Live.

We touch on the real-life tragedy that saw Jay Briscoe pass away earlier this week. In this case, the tragedy isn’t that he didn’t get to spend his life on the road away from his community and family. Life isn’t your job and the outpouring of love and respect is worth more than any world championship.

We shift back to pro wrestling and talk about the “reheatability” of Kevin Owens. We know he’s going to lose at next Saturday’s WWE Royal Rumble, but we don’t care.

Given the return of Vince McMahon, we should all start wearing bracelets that say WWNKD (What Would Nick Khan Do?)

Plus, Mutoh vs. Naito, Okada, Kiyomiya, NOAH-NJPW, Mercedes Mone, WWE SmackDown, WWE Raw XXX, and much more.

Wrestling Observer Live: WWE sale speculation with Dave Meltzer

I am back with another episode of Wrestling Observer Live.

On the Sunday edition, Wrestling Observer Newsletter founder Dave Meltzer joins me as we discuss the latest in the possible sale of WWE, Stephanie McMahon’s resignation, and who the likely potential buyer will be.

Also, we talk some UFC and discuss Francis Ngannou being stripped of the UFC heavyweight title due to failed contract negotiations. What’s next for him and could he be lining himself up for a big boxing match with Tyson Fury?

Plus, AEW Rampage had a very bloody main event, MJF cut promos on everyone on last Wednesday’s Dynamite, and we ask the question of whether Mercedes Mone will show up in AEW at some point.

Wrestling Observer Live: Reviewing Friday’s shows, WWE meeting, Jim Valley kidney update

It’s Saturday and that means it’s time for Wrestling Observer Live.

As you may have heard on social media, I am now on the kidney transplant list. I give an update on how you can donate if interested.

We then get into all the pro wrestling action for Friday plus the backstage meeting with all WWE talent that revealed that we talked about last week was true: of course, Vince McMahon talks to Triple H about creative.

An excellent week of televised wrestling was capped off Friday including Gunther vs. Braun Strowman, and Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens on a strong episode of SmackDown. We got a very violent and bloody women’s tag team match to cap off a solid AEW Rampage in addition to Impact’s Hard to Kill, the return of Santino Marella, and the moment when we all googled Paul Walter Hauser and went, “Oh right, that guy.”

It’s a jam packed show so check it out.
