Drew Gulak part of WWE NXT roster cuts

WWE made a round of NXT cuts that were revealed on Friday afternoon with former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak as the most notable name included among the list of 11.

Our Bryan Alvarez verified the list of those who were released with Fightful reporting the same list other than Gulak and Boa. PWInsider reported that Gulak was cut, but not Boa.

Gulak recently came under fire after former WWE star Ronda Rousey accused him of pulling at the string on sweatpants she was wearing backstage at an event.

Gulak said it was an accident and it was later reported that WWE investigated the claim. Gulak, who had been competing in NXT as of late with the No Quarter Catch Crew, was removed from their opening video last month.

He had been part of WWE since 2017, mainly competing on the then-205 Live show in addition to some appearances on both Raw and Main Event. After being cut in May 2020, he was quickly brought back.

He remained on the main roster through January 2023 when he headed to NXT. His last match there was in March of this year.

The 37-year-old held the Cruiserweight title for over 100 days in the summer of 2019 and was a multiple-time holder of the now-defunct 24/7 title.

Here’s the full list of names that were released with several of them coming from the recent Next Gen series on The Roku Channel:

  • Boa: The former Yanbo Wang signed with WWE in September 2016 after a tryout in Shanghai. He last wrestled in December 2023.
  • Vlad Pavlenko: The former track star was part of the spring 2023 PC class. He never wrestled a match.
  • Valentina Feroz: The former Rita Reis was part of NXT since December 2019. She hasn’t wrestled since December 2023.
  • Trey Bearhill: The former Triller Bucktrot is a former college football player that wrestled 17 matches from March 2023 through March 2024.
  • Kiyah Saint: The former Harleigh White debuted in May 2023 and wrestled 13 matches, last competing in April 2024.
  • Julian Baldi: Baldi said he had signed last month. He never wrestled a match and was part of the Next Gen series.
  • Emma Diaz: The former rugby player wrestled just three times from October 2023 through April 2024. She was also part of Next Gen.
  • Darrell Mason: The former amateur wrestler never wrestled a match.
  • Keyshawn LeFlore: The former college gymnast never wrestled a match.
  • Ezekiel Balogun: The former college basketball player was part of the spring 2023 class and never wrestled a match.

It’s the second round of cuts in as many months as several main roster wrestlers were released in April that included Jinder Mahal and Xia Li.

Tag team match added to WWE NXT

A new tag team match has been added to Tuesday’s NXT.

Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz will take on Lola Vice & Elektra Lopez this coming Tuesday. It will be the first show following this past Sunday’s Great American Bash event.

In the pre-show of the Great American Bash, Leon & Feroz teamed together with Nathan Frazer and Dragon Lee to defeat the Meta-Four (Noam Dar, Oro Mensah, Jakara Jackson, and Lash Legend). All eight had been feuding with one another in the weeks prior to the Great American Bash.

An association between Lopez and Vice has been seen in recent weeks on NXT television. Vice was in Lola’s corner when she lost a match to Thea Hail on the July 18 edition of NXT. This will be Vice’s second match on NXT, the first being a battle royal back in June.

The announced lineup for this week’s Great American Bash follow-up episode of NXT:

  • Lyra Valkyria vs. Jacy Jayne
  • Dijak vs. Eddy Thorpe
  • The Schism interrogation segment
  • Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz vs. Lola Vice & Elektra Lopez

Face-to-face segment, tag match added to WWE NXT Gold Rush

WWE has announced a tag match and a new segment for NXT Gold Rush week one.

Valentina Feroz & Yulisa Leon vs. Jakara Jackson & Lash Legend is now scheduled for Tuesday’s show.

During the Heritage Cup match between Nathan Frazier and Oro Mensah last week, Jackson and Legend attempted to interfere on behalf of Mensah. This led to Leon and Feroz running to ringside and evening up the score.

On Sunday, WWE made a tag match between the two teams official.

WWE has also announced that NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes will be involved in a face-to-face segment with upcoming challenger Baron Corbin on Tuesday. Corbin will challenge the champion for the title on week two of Gold Rush.

WWE has also confirmed that Chase U will throw a pep rally for Thea Hail on Tuesday. Hail will challenge Tiffany Stratton for the NXT Women’s Championship on week two of Gold Rush.

WWE NXT Gold Rush week one 6/20:

  • NXT North American Champion Wes Lee defends against Tyler Bate
  • Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs vs. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade vs. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger in a triple threat to determine #1 contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championships
  • Dana Brooke vs. Cora Jade
  • Jakara Jackson & Lash Legend vs. Valentina Feroz & Yulisa Leon
  • Chase U pep rally for Thea Hail
  • Carmelo Hayes and Baron Corbin come face-to-face

WWE NXT Gold Rush week one 6/27:

Valentina Feroz vs. Lyra Valkyria set for WWE NXT

A match between Lyra Valkyria and Valentina Feroz has been made for Tuesday’s NXT.

On Saturday’s Vengeance Day premium live event, Valkaryia issued a challenge after a match between Cora Jade and herself never took place on this week’s NXT, with Valkyria saying Jade must have changed her mind. Later in the show, Feroz accepted the challenge for this Tuesday. Wendy Choo, who was sitting next to Feroz, said she had her back.

In recent weeks, Feroz has been talking to Elektra Lopez, with Lopez encouraging her to win matches by any means necessary. In a match against Thea Hail last month, Lopez attempted to give Feroz a pair of brass knuckles to use against Hail. Feroz rejected the knuckles, leading to a loss and Hail’s first win on NXT television.

Valkyria made her NXT debut in December. She most recently wrestled on the January 17 edition of NXT, where she teamed with Roxanne Perez to defeat Toxic Attraction.

WWE 205 Live results: Ivy Nile vs. Valentina Feroz

In a rare sight, 205 Live opened with a promo. Andre Chase started the show by announcing the man Von Wagner tried to kill, Bohdi Hayword, would be awarded a full ride through Chase University.

Bohdi Hayword defeated Guru Raaj

Hayword used his size advantage to lead the match for some time. Raaj had some success using selective striking, but Hayword continually overwhelmed Raaj. A chop block from Hayword led to a roll-up; Hayward pinned Raaj to close his debut match.

This entire opening segment felt like a blast from the past. If you told me this was on an episode of 2014 NXT TV, I’d believe you.

Ivy Nile defeated Valentina Feroz

I liked this match a lot. It was unique structurally and was compelling. Good stuff.

The match opened with throw based wrestling in which Feroz found great success. Eventually, Nile connected with a suplex and a jumping kick to turn the match on its head.

Nile worked head scissors for an extended period before attempting a suplex. Feroz reversed a sleeper attempt, turning it into an inside cradle. After Nile kicked out, Feroz tried for a bridging pin; Nile stood up, turning the pin attempt into a dragon sleeper. Feroz tapped out almost immediately.

The show concluded with a replay of a Bron Breaker hype package and promo.
