Red Velvet defeats Mercedes Mone for Women’s Television title at ROH Final Battle

Mercdes Mone is down to just 12 titles.

Red Velvet regained the ROH Women’s Television Championship at Final Battle on Friday, defeating Mercedes Mone in a surprise. The finish had Mone locking in a crossface, but Velvet used the ropes to kick herself over and pinned Mone to win the Television title for a second time. After the match, Velvet retreated up the entranceway in celebration as a stunned Mone tried to get herself back together.

The loss on Friday continues Mone’s string of bad luck since Full Gear, when she failed to defeat Kris Statlander in a match for the AEW Women’s Championship, the one title she has been unable to capture.

Mone defeated Mina Shirakawa on an episode of Dynamite on October 18 to win the interim version of the Women’s TV title. In the days leading to Full Gear, Red Velvet made her return from injury and looked to unify the ROH Women’s Television Championship on the November 19 edition of Collision. Mone won that match, becoming the undisputed champion.

Title unification match set for three-hour AEW Dynamite

A title unification match is now set for the final AEW Dynamite before Full Gear.

It was announced in the closing moments of Collision that Red Velvet will finally get her chance to unify the ROH Women’s Television Championship, squaring off against interim champion Mercedes Mone. This happens just days before Mone faces Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s Championship at Full Gear.

Velvet has been out since June, suffering an injury that required AEW to crown an interim Women’s Television Champion. Mina Shirakawa originally won the title at Supercard of Honor, but lost it in a winner-takes-all match against Mone at AEW WrestleDream.

Two AEW Women’s Tag Team tournament quarterfinal matches will also take place. Toni Storm and Shirkawa will team to take on Riho and Alex Windsor, the latter of whom picked up a victory on Saturday. Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir will team together to face TayJay. Shafir attacked Tay Melo on Saturday, causing Melo cut a promo afterwards calling Shafir out.

Mina Shirakawa wins interim Women’s TV title at ROH Supercard of Honor

An interim ROH Women’s Television Champion has been crowned.

Mina Shirakawa is the new interim champion after submitting Miyu Yamashita with a figure-four leglock to become champion in a four-way match also featuring Persephone and Yuka Sakazaki. She will meet current champion Red Velvet in a match at a later date to determine the undisputed champion.

The interim title match was announced this week after Tony Khan confirmed that Red Velvet would be out of action due to injury. The Worldwide Wild Card International four-way match was announced shortly before Friday’s event in Arlington, Texas.

Prior to the match, Red Velvet in a backstage interview said that nobody’s more frustrated about the situation than her and the countdown to the new champion losing the title back to her has begun. She said that she would be at ringside to watch the match. After Shirakawa won the title, the two confronted one another on the entranceway, setting up their future bout.

Velvet’s last match took place at CMLL’s Fantastica Mania event last month where she defeated Kira.
