Jimmy Hart recalls Hulk Hogan’s reaction following WWE Raw on Netflix debut appearance

Jimmy Hart expressed hesitation and Hulk Hogan’s reaction to the backlash on his last WWE appearance at Raw’s Netflix debut in 2025.

On the latest What Do You Wanna Talk About Podcast episode with Cody Rhodes, Hart reflected on the sentiments going into the segment with Hogan. He was reluctant at first given Hogan’s public statements about his political selection.

“I said, ‘you know where we’re going? We’re going to California’ And like I said before, I’m not a Democrat or Republican. I’m jabroni.”

“But here’s the deal. I said, ‘I don’t like this’. ‘Jimmy, don’t worry about it.’ I went, ‘Okay’. We get out of the van there, nice town car puts us there. Some fans go ‘Hulk, we loved you, but you love them. We don’t like you anymore.’ You know. I said ‘Hulk, I don’t feel good about this’. ‘Jimmy, don’t worry about it.’ We go in the back. You know what I’m worrying about it.”

“So we’re in the back and Hulk, he goes ‘Jimmy Hart, what do you think?’ He’d always ask before we do something. And I just said, ‘no, everything’s good, you know, everything’s okay’. So, we went out and did the little thing with, rehearse where we were going to stand and help coming out, do his little deal. And I’m waving the flag.”

“So we finish it, then we go in the back. And of course, then Hulk comes up going ‘hey, the radio was good on that segment we did’. And I said, ‘well, I guess they should be because with all the commotion that happened on it, I guess we should have.”

“And I said ‘but you kept telling me, don’t worry about it. Well, I was worried about it’. And he goes, ‘Jimmy, look, sometimes you got to do what you got to do.’ And he said ‘I’ve made my bed and I’ve got to lie in it. That’s who I wanted to vote for. That’s what I wanted to do’. He said ‘I knew in my heart going in there might be a catchy thing’. But he knew it, you know.”

The segment, which was also intended to promote Hogan’s Real American Beer, garnered heavy boos from the audience due to his outspoken political views. After his passing, Vince McMahon expressed anger over the presentation and reaction to Hogan’s appearance on the debut program.

WWE asking fans to dress up for Raw’s ‘Stranger Things Night’

WWE is hoping fans dress up in Stranger Things-inspired outfits for Monday’s episode of Raw.

The January 5 edition of WWE Raw in Brooklyn, New York will celebrate the one-year anniversary of Raw coming to Netflix. Branded as “Stranger Things Night,” the episode will also have a tie-in with one of Netflix’s most popular scripted series. WWE is asking fans to contribute to the crossover by wearing clothing inspired by Stranger Things.

“This Monday, #WWERaw enters the Upside Down… and we want you to bring your best #StrangerThings looks to Brooklyn,” WWE tweeted. “Bring the energy. Bring the nostalgia. Bring the noise. We’ll see you and your #StrangerThings inspired ‘fits this Monday at @barclayscenter!”

Stranger Things, a retro horror series set in the 1980s, wrapped up its five-season run with the series finale premiering on December 31.

WWE has announced three title matches for the Raw episode, including CM Punk defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Bron Breakker.

Netflix reveals date for WWE-Stranger Things crossover

We’re officially less than two weeks away from a crossover between WWE Raw and the hit Netflix series Stranger Things.

Last week, it was reported that a promotional crossover between WWE and Stranger Things would be happening soon. Details were sparse at the time and there is still not much information available, but we now know that it will be taking place on January 5. The crossover is happening on the first Raw of 2026, which will celebrate the one-year anniversary of Raw moving to the streaming platform.

“THE WWE GETS STRANGER,” Netflix tweeted out today. “January 5 LIVE only on Netflix at 8 PM ET | 5 PM PT #WWERaw”

Brooklyn, New York is hosting the January 5 show. It will feature a World Heavyweight Championship match with CM Punk defending against Bron Breakker. Two other title bouts are also set for the episode. Maxxine Dupri defends her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Becky Lynch, while Rhea Ripley & IYO SKY challenge Asuka & Kairi Sane for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles.

Stranger Things — one of the most popular original series in Netflix’s history — is currently in the midst of its final season. More episodes will be released on Christmas Day, with the final batch then set to drop on New Year’s Eve.

“In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits,” the official description for Stranger Things says. “As they search for answers, the children unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries.”

Viewership for episode five of WWE Raw on Netflix

For the first time since its premiere on Netflix, WWE Raw has shown a week-over-week increase in viewership.

Netflix lists that the February 3 episode of Raw generated 3.1 million views globally in its first week (February 3-9). The show was Raw’s Royal Rumble fallout episode, taking place two nights after the PLE.

After ranking ninth the previous week, Raw was back up to seventh in Netflix’s weekly top 10 rankings for English-language TV shows. It ranked as a top 10 program in seven countries: Bolivia, Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The viewership number is up from the 2.9 million views the January 27 episode of Raw did in its first week.

  • January 6 — 5.9 million views (17.7 million hours viewed)
  • January 13 — 3.7 million views (8.2 million hours viewed)
  • January 20 — 3.0 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)
  • January 27 — 2.9 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)
  • February 3 — 3.1 million views (6.1 million hours viewed)

For Netflix’s methodology, views are defined as the total hours viewed for the program divided by the total runtime.

The Night Agent season two, The Recruit season two, American Manhunt: OJ Simpson, Sweet Magnolias season four, Apple Cider Vinegar, and The Recruit season one were the shows that ranked above Raw in the English-language TV category this week.

Viewership for episode four of WWE Raw on Netflix

The January 27 edition of WWE Raw ranked ninth in its category in Netflix’s weekly top 10.

Netflix lists that the Royal Rumble go-home episode of Raw generated 2.9 million views globally from January 27-February 2, placing it ninth among shows in the English-language TV category. The episode had 6.6 million hours viewed in total.

The viewership number is down slightly from the previous week’s Raw.

Here’s a look at the viewership each episode of Raw on Netflix has done in their respective weekly rankings (Netflix defines views as the total hours viewed for the program divided by the total runtime):

  • January 6 — 5.9 million views (17.7 million hours viewed)
  • January 13 — 3.7 million views (8.2 million hours viewed)
  • January 20 — 3.0 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)
  • January 27 — 2.9 million views (6.6 million hours viewed)

Though the PLE was not available on Netflix in the United States due to WWE’s deal with Peacock, the Royal Rumble — which took place on Saturday — ranked 10th in Netflix’s English-language TV show category with 2.1 million views. That’s only counting views that would have been generated through the end of the weekend.

Raw was a top 10 show in five countries this week: Bolivia, Canada, Mexico, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The Royal Rumble was a top 10 show in 27 different countries, including ranking first in both Bolivia and Mexico.

Netflix publishes its weekly top 10 every Tuesday. The Night Agent season two finished first in the English-language TV category this week with 15.2 million views.

Viewership for episode two of WWE Raw on Netflix

For the second straight week, WWE Raw ranked fourth in its category on Netflix’s viewership chart.

Netflix lists that the January 13 episode of Raw — the second episode since Raw moved to the streaming service — generated 3,700,000 views globally from January 13-19. That was good for fourth among English-language TV shows. Raw trailed American Primeval (14,300,000 views), XO, Kitty season two (14,200,000), and Missing You (5,600,000) in that category.

This is down from the 5,900,000 views that Raw’s Netflix premiere generated in its first week.

In Netflix’s methodology, views are defined as the total hours viewed for the program divided by the total runtime. The January 13 Raw is listed as having 8,200,000 hours viewed. Raw’s Netflix premiere — which was a full three-hour episode — had 17,700,000 hours viewed in the first week.

This week, Squid Game season two was the top-ranked TV show in the non-English language category with 13,200,000 views and 94,800,000 hours viewed.

Week three of Raw on Netflix took place last night. We’ll get viewership information for that episode when Netflix publishes its weekly chart next Tuesday.

Update on viewership for WWE Raw’s Netflix premiere

Some new viewership information is now available regarding WWE Raw’s Netflix premiere episode.

Per data published by Netflix, the episode was viewed 5,900,000 times globally from January 6-12, which means an additional one million views were added after the initial two-day viewership number that WWE and Netflix touted. The three-hour episode generated a total of 17,700,000 hours viewed.

Netflix defines views as “total view hours for the program divided by the runtime.”

Raw ranked fourth among English-language TV shows on Netflix for the week, trailing “Missing You,” (15,200,000 views), “American Primeval” (10,400,000 views), and the docuseries “Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action” (7,700,000 views).

Season two of “Squid Game” — which is ranked as a non-English language show — was the top TV program on Netflix with 26,300,000 views. “The Breakthrough” also had 10,600,000 views and “Squid Game” season one had 8,700,000 views in the non-English language category.

The Raw premiere ranked as a top 10 show in 26 different countries.

In their press release last week, WWE and Netflix stated that — in the United States — the premiere averaged 2.6 million households in live and same-day viewing.

Viewership data for Raw’s second episode on Netflix — which took place from San Jose, California last night — is not available yet.

WWE Raw on Netflix format update

In the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave an update on the expected format for WWE Raw on Netflix.

From October 7 through the end of 2024, Raw is going back to a two-hour show for the first time in more than a decade. Raw will then move to Netflix in January 2025. After initially noting that Raw was expected to move back to three hours on Netflix, Meltzer clarified that the plan is still to be determined. Without the constraints of regular television, there’s potential for Raw’s format to be more flexible:

The plan for Netflix is to be determined. It was noted that a normal Raw at three hours is 132 minutes so you can have the same content in a two-and-a-half hour show with less commercial time. There will be commercials on Netflix as one of the reasons Netflix picked up Raw is because they are trying to add commercials to programming and the Raw and pro wrestling audience is used to commercials on the shows, but they can adjust a lot differently than on regular television such as when and how long the breaks are and not have the show to the second when it comes to that. The time can also adjust such as if they need longer to tell the story or want to go shorter, it’s not like they have to be off the air because another show is starting. The idea is the length can change so the time frame of the main event finishes can be less predictable.

Raw’s deal with USA Network had been set to expire at the end of this month, but the two sides reached an agreement to keep the show on USA until its Netflix move. The date for the first Raw on Netflix is Monday, January 6, 2025.

It’s a 10-year deal between WWE and Netflix for Raw. Per the contract, Netflix has the option of extending the agreement for another 10 years after that. Netflix also could opt out at the five-year mark in 2030.

WWE Raw to be three-hour show on Netflix

After a brief return to two hours, WWE Raw will be a three-hour show again when it comes to Netflix.

It was announced on Monday night that — from October 7 through the end of 2024 — Raw will be a two-hour show on USA Network. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the news and confirmed that Raw will still be three hours on Netflix when it moves to the platform in January 2025.

“It’s a three-hour show when they move back to Netflix,” Meltzer said. “Yeah, I got it confirmed a few minutes ago. The basic situation is — it was a USA Network call, not a WWE call.”

Raw’s current TV deal expires at the end of September, but WWE and USA Network reached a deal to keep the show on USA for three months until the Netflix move. This period will be the first time Raw has not been three hours since 2012.

The date for Raw’s Netflix premiere episode is Monday, January 6.

WWE SmackDown aired its final Fox episode last week and will be back on USA Network this Friday, returning to the channel for the first time since 2019. A new TV deal for WWE NXT also goes into effect soon. Including tonight, NXT has three more episodes on USA Network before moving to The CW at the start of October.
