AEW Collision Slam Dunk Saturday live results: Daniel Garcia vs. Adam Cole

A rematch for the TNT title headlines tonight’s one-hour Slam Dunk Saturday edition of AEW Collision from Omaha, Nebraska, airing after NCAA men’s basketball tournament action.

Daniel Garcia will once again put the title on the line against Adam Cole. The two squared off this month with the match going to a no contest after members of Shane Taylor Promotions ran in to beat both men up. Garcia has held the title since November’s Full Gear and is looking for his sixth successful title defense.

In the third match in their trilogy, former TBS Champion Julia Hart will go one-on-one with Queen Aminata.

In a trios about, Powerhouse Hobbs will team with Mark Briscoe and Rocky Romero against Konosuke Takeshita, Lance Archer and Brian Cage of the Don Callis Family.

Max Caster is still in search of his first open challenge series victory and will continue that quest tonight.

Tonight’s show is expected to begin around 11 PM Eastern.

AEW TNT Title Match – Daniel Garcia (c) vs. Adam Cole went to a time-limit draw

I loved this show starting with a match in the ring ready to start. That’s something I would love AEW to do more of. WWE will always start a show with five-ten minutes of video packages and entrances, so make yourselves standout by starting with immediate action. These two work very well together as their last two matches have shown. The finish tells me that there will be a third match coming soon, probably for Dynasty and possibly with a stipulation regarding the time-limit. A quality start to this special episode. The only thing I would have done differently is announce when the rematch was happening on this show. In theory, you have a bigger audience, so try to hook them in for the next show or the upcoming pay-per-view.

The first exchange went to a stalemate, unless you consider Garcia doing his dance getting the upper hand. Cole won the second exchange and did his Pokemon taunt. Another exchange saw Garcia left stood up, and after some rough breaks in the ropes, Garcia hit a dropkick to send Cole into the corner. Cole interrupted Garcia’s ten punches and sent him over the top rope to the floor.

Cole sent Garcia into the ring steps, with Garcia favoring his knee in the process. Cole went to work on the knee, then hit a Shining Wizard for a nearfall. Garcia rolled Cole up on a Figure Four attempt, but Cole came right back with a backstabber for a nearfall as we went to a commercial.

We came back to Cole driving Garcia’s leg into the post to light boos. Garcia swung on Cole from his knees, but Cole caught him with an enzuigiri. Garcia countered a brainbuster with a Twist N’ Shout, then hit another before a rope-assisted third one got a nearfall. The crowd was split as Garcia went for a piledriver, but the knee gave Cole an opening to hit an Ushigoroshi for a nearfall.

Garcia shoved Cole off of a Figure Four attempt and booted him off the apron so hard that he went to the floor as well. Garcia had a fan help him to his feet before dropkicking Cole in a chair, but Cole caught Garcia with the Last Shot for a nearfall. Cole signaled for the Panama Sunrise, but Garcia cut him off as the ring announcer gave the 15-minute call. Garcia went to give Cole a superplex, but his leg crumbled underneath him. Cole hit the Panama Sunrise, but Garcia got his arm on the rope at two.

Cole set up for another Panama Sunrise, but Garcia ducked out of the ring to the floor. Garcia avoided a Sunrise on the floor and hit a side suplex. With the weak knee, Garcia pulled and pulled Cole up to hit a piledriver for a nearfall. Cole went to superkick a charging Garcia, but Garcia collapsed on the leg. Another Panama Sunrise only got a 2-count, so Cole locked on a Figure Four.

Garcia scraped his way to the ropes, then pulled Cole into the Dragon Tamer and forced Cole into the ropes. The men fought to the apron as the announcers said there was one minute left. Cole hit a Canadian Destroyer on the apron. Garcia held onto Cole’s ankle to keep him from running for The Boom, and it worked as the bell rang right before Cole hit the Boom. The time limit expired, and Garcia retained the title. The two men yelled at each other as we went to a commercial.

During this match, ROH Supercard of Honor was announced for the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on May 2nd.

Max Caster was in the ring for his open challenge. He said that he had a busy schedule, unlike his former partner. The crowd chanted for Anthony Bowens, who Caster said was gone and was never coming back. He did his chant to little success and asked for an opponent for his open challenge. Hook came out, and the match was on.

Best Wrestler Alive Open Challenge – Hook defeated Max Caster

They’re setting up Anthony Bowens to get a big pop answering a Caster challenge, which should set him up nicely on his new path as a singles wrestler.

Caster threw the mic at Hook to start, but Hook simply tripped him and locked on the Redrum for the quick win.

Lexy Nair’s guest at this time was Queen Aminata ahead of her match against Julia Hart. She was immediately interrupted by Serena Deeb, who bore a gift: All ONE THOUSAND of her holds in a binder. She wanted Aminata to study those moves, not realizing Aminata’s match was literally about to start. Aminata declined and said she could win this match on her own, with Deeb wondering about that after Aminata left.

Julia Hart defeated Queen Aminata

An odd finish here, with Hart just rolling Aminata up for the win. But Aminata could not beat Hart again without Deeb’s help, so she may need THE BINDER OF HOLDS to advance in her career.

Aminata got the first advantage with a suplex into the corner before dropping her on the apron with a uranage. We came back from a commercial with Hart hitting a standing moonsault for a nearfall. Aminata came back with an Air Raid Crash for a nearfall.

Both women got to the top rope, with Hart hitting a Spider Suplex. Hart went for a moonsault, but Aminata moved and hit the Brain Drain for a nearfall. Aminata hit Hart with a forearm and went for Off With Her Head, but Hart moved and stacked Aminata up for the win.

Lexy Nair’s guest at this time was Harley Cameron. Nair asked Cameron about the lucha showcase match tomorrow night, and Cameron said that she would hop on commentary for that match after her match. When Nair asked about the scurrilous rumors that Cameron was the mysterious luchadora Harleygram, Cameron screamed Feel The Wrath and ducked away.

Konosuke Takeshita & The Murder Machines (Brian Cage & Lance Archer) (w/Don Callis) defeated Mark Briscoe, Powerhouse Hobbs & Rocky Romero

A fun, energetic main event to cap off the show.

Callis hopped on commentary as Briscoe and Takeshita started off. Takeshita cut Briscoe off on a top rope attack, but Briscoe knocked the other Callis Family members off the apron and dove onto Cage. Hobbs tagged in and took Takeshita down with running Vader attacks – the one where you just throw your body into the other guy – before Romero scored with a double stomp. Romero went for a dive, but Cage caught him and passed him to Takeshita for a powerbomb on the apron.

Romero was fighting back on Takeshita as we came back from commercial, hitting a tornado DDT and getting the tag out to Briscoe. Briscoe ran wild, hitting a Fisherman’s Buster for a nearfall. The Murder Machines pinballed Briscoe around before Takeshita hit a home run forearm for a nearfall. Briscoe fought out of the Murder Bomb and tagged in Hobbs, who ran wild on the Murder Machines.

Hobbs laid out Takeshita with a spinebuster before Cage dumped him with a German suplex. Romero tagged in and kicked Cage into a spinebuster. The match broke down into a Pier Six brawl, with Romero hitting a rewind kick for a nearfall. Archer cut Romero off with a forearm, and Cage helped him hit the Murder Bomb. Takeshita came in and hit the Raging Fire for the win.

Bandido & Powerhouse Hobbs teaming up on AEW Collision

A new match for this Saturday’s AEW Collision was made late Wednesday night as former ROH World Champion Bandido will team with Powerhouse Hobbs against Big Bill & Bryan Keith.

Bandido and Hobbs issued the challenge in a promo shared on X which was later confirmed. Hobbs recently defeated Bill in a recent street fight and still isn’t done with him, and Bandido said that he also isn’t done with ROH World Champion Chris Jericho after losing to the champion last Saturday.

Hobbs is from the Bay Area of California where the show will be held while Bandido said Oakland is “Latino country.” It will be their first time teaming up while Keith and Bill haven’t been on AEW TV as a traditional team since last October.

Here’s the current lineup for Saturday’s live show from Oakland:

  • TNT Champion Daniel Garcia defends against Adam Cole
  • Kenny Omega live in person
  • FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs. Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly
  • Powerhouse Hobbs & Bandido vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith

International Championship Series begins, Big Bill vs. Powerhouse Hobbs added to AEW Dynamite

A series of matches to determine Kenny Omega’s opponent for Revolution will begin this coming Wednesday.

It was announced during Grand Slam Australia that the International Championship Series will kick off on Dynamite when Orange Cassidy takes on Roderick Strong. The winner of that match will move on to face current champion Konosuke Takeshita the following week in Oceanside, California. Whoever emerges as champion will then defend the title against Omega at Revolution on March 9.

Also announced for Dynamite is Big Bill taking on Powerhouse Hobbs in a street fight. In recent weeks, Hobbs has been targeting members of The Learning Tree, coming face-to-face several times with Bill. Already set for Wednesday is a face-to-face between MJF & Hangman Page as well as The Opps taking on The Patriarchy.

Here is the updated lineup for Dynamite:

  • AEW International Championship series: Orange Cassidy vs. Roderick Strong
  • Street fight: Big Bill vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
  • MJF and Hangman Page face-to-face
  • The Ops (Samoa Joe, Hook, Katsuyori Shibata) vs. The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, Nick Wayne, Kip Sabian)

Powerhouse Hobbs has legitimate injury, planned AEW Collision match postponed

A planned street fight between Powerhouse Hobbs and Big Bill for this week’s AEW Collision had to be postponed due to a legitimate injury.

On Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, a Hobbs backstage promo aired where he said he wasn’t cleared by the doctors but promised Big Bill that hell was just the beginning between them.

On Wednesday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez reported that Hobbs got injured during he and Bill’s wild brawl as part of last Saturday’s Collision. The plan was to do another big brawl on Dynamite which would then have led to a street fight on this week’s Collision which was taped after Dynamite in Huntsville, Alabama.

The actual injury is unknown and his potential return date is unknown.

Alvarez said the Hobbs promo was filmed in Huntsville and that the doctor would not clear him when he arrived at the arena. As a result, the Mid-South street fight between FTR and Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta was put together for Collision instead.

AEW’s next live show is this Wednesday’s Dynamite from Atlanta, Georgia.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Big Bill added to AEW Collision

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Big Bill has been added to this Saturday’s Homecoming edition of AEW Collision from Jacksonville, Florida.

The match was made during a backstage segment with Chris Jericho, Bryan Keith and Bill where Jericho essentially blamed their loss in a 12-man tag team match last Saturday on Bill due to not fully taking Hobbs out in a pre-match attack. After Jericho asked him what he’s going to do about it. Bill then challenged Hobbs to a match.

It will be Hobbs’ first singles bout since failing to defeat Jon Moxley for the AEW World title on last Wednesday’s Dynamite. Bill will be looking to snap a two-match losing streak in hopes of picking up his first win since this past April.

Here is the current card for AEW Collision Homecoming:

  • Mariah May & Toni Storm meet face-to-face
  • Big Bill vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
  • Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard & Angelo Parker vs. Undisputed Kingdom (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong)
  • Buddy Matthews & Brody King vs. The Gates of Agony

AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage live results: World title match, Kenny Omega in action

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage from Cincinatti features a World title bout, plus the AEW in-ring return of Kenny Omega.

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends the title tonight against Powerhouse Hobbs, the winner of the men’s Casino Gauntlet match last week.

Omega will have his first AEW match since December 2023, facing Brian Cage. Omega returned to the ring earlier this month at Wrestle Dynasty against Gabe Kidd.

The first women’s Casino gauntlet match will take place with the winner earning a shot at AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May at February’s Grand Slam Australia.

The Hurt Syndicate will be in action as MVP makes his AEW in-ring debut with Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin against AEW Tag Team Champions Private Party and Mark Briscoe.

The long-simmering feud between Christian Cage and Hook comes to a head with the two finally meeting one-on-one.

Ricochet will share some thoughts two weeks after he attacked Swerve Strickland with a pair of golden scissors.

**********

AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone & Taz as they throw it to a video package highlighting tonight’s card. The highlights did include Kenny Omega vs. Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty, as Omega’s AEW in ring return is the opening contest of the evening.

Kenny Omega defeated Brian Cage (w/Don Callis & Lance Archer)

(This was a good return match for Omega, as he sold a lot of the time before delivering some of his greatest hits. Obviously this was nowhere near the Wrestle Dynasty match and I’d recommend seeking that out if for some reason you haven’t seen it, but it was nice to see Kenny back in an AEW ring. The post-match set up the Takeshita/Fletcher vs. Ospreay/Omega showdown, which could happen either on TV or possibly Grand Slam, which, at this moment, we haven’t been told how we can watch it.)

Omega’s first match on Dynamite since November 15, 2023 in the 8-man Street Fight against, ironically enough, Brian Cage & The Don Callis Family. Loud ovation for Omega, as he fired off early chops, but Cage no sold, so Omega took out the leg. Omega couldn’t power Cage up, allowing Cage to curl Omega before hitting a fall away slam. Cage hit one pop-up powerbomb, tried another, but Omega countered into a hurricanrana to the floor. Omega teased the Terminator Dive, but Archer ran distraction, allowing Cage to turn Omega inside out with a lariat. Cage tossed Omega into the barricade and press slammed him abdomen first on the announce table (I wonder if it’s still “solid oak” like Excalibur told us last week?). Cage took the ref, as Archer & Callis got in their cheap shots as things went to commercial.

Back from break, Cage hit a suplex from the apron back inside for two as Omega crawled to the ramp. Omega tried another hurricanrana, but Cage powerbombed him back into the ring for another near fall. Omega fought off a pump handle, connecting on a face palm slam, but Cage got the knees up during a moonsault attempt and hit the sit-out pump handle for two. Cage went up top, but was cut-off, allowing a springboard sunset bomb before a V-Trigger got a near fall. Omega signaled another V-Trigger, but Cage sidestepped, Omega floated over a German suplex, ducked a discus lariat and popped Cage with a pump knee followed by a V-Trigger. Omega connected on the One-Winged Angel and got the victory.

Post-match, Archer & Kyle Fletcher hit the ring and attacked the midsection until Will Ospreay hit the ring and made the save similar to last week. Ospreay flipped out of an Archer chokeslam, hit an enzugiri, Omega fired off a V-Trigger and Ospreay capped it with a Hidden Blade. Ospreay & Omega had words until Ospreay shoved Omega out of the way and wiped out Fletcher with a dive. Konosuke Takeshita’s music hit and he walked right out and brawled with Omega until Fletcher & Ospreay got back in and the fight continued. Fletcher & Takeshita got the advantage and laid out Ospreay & Omega with the Brainbuster and Raging Fire respectively. The Don Callis Family stood tall over Ospreay & Omega. Despite all of that, Schiavone said that Omega & Ospreay stood tall after Omega’s return, as they were both struggling to their feet after the attack.

-Hurt Syndicate video ahead of MVP’s in-ring debut for AEW, coming up tonight.

-New York Minute with Chris Jericho, who called Cincinnati the Bluegrass State. The Learning Tree talked about the upcoming 12-man tag on Collision, which Bryan Keith reminds us “is a dozen MF-er”. Jericho called Cope a dope and Cash Wheeler…a kneeler. Jericho promised Jon Moxley that The Learning Tree & Death Riders will be on the same page. This wasn’t the best New York Minute segment they’ve done, even Taz said that was so rough it made him sad to be a New Yorker.

Ricochet Addresses the Attack on Swerve Strickland

Crowd booing Ricochet big time, as he has the gold scissors in the breast pocket of his suit. The crowd wouldn’t let him talk, drowning him out with Swerve’s House chants. Ricochet said a picture is worth a thousand words and showed the bloody attack on Strickland on the big screen before Strickland’s music hit. Prince Nana snuck in from behind and cracked Ricochet with a chair before dancing over him. Swerve Strickland slowly walked out with a chain and went to whip Ricochet, who ran for higher ground, as Strickland stalked him down. Ricochet chucked a security guard into Strickland and bailed out the door through the snow.

-Video package of the media tour the TBS Champion Mercedes Mone has been on lately. The Sherri Shepard Show, Sirius XM, shopping, training at Create-A-Pro Wrestling, as she told us Mone Changes Everything.

The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin & MVP) defeated Mark Briscoe & AEW Tag Team Champions Private Party (Quen & Zay)

(This was about 90/10 Hurt Syndicate and there’s really no reason why Lashley & Benjamin shouldn’t be tag team champions after a performance like this. Hurt Syndicate looked incredibly strong here to the point where I almost felt bad for Briscoe & Private Party getting darn near squashed here.)

MVP wrestled a few times on the indies at the end of last year, but prior to that, it’s been a little over 2 years since he has competed on TV. Meanwhile, this is Private Party’s first match on Dynamite since winning the Tag Titles last October. Hurt Syndicate wasted no time attacking at the bell, as MVP & Briscoe slugged it out in the ring, as Zay & Quen got beat down outside. Briscoe answered with some Redneck Kung-Fu, but MVP regained advantage, tagging Benjamin, slamming Briscoe repeatedly from apron to barricade, as things went to commercial.

Back from break, MVP hit the Ballin elbow for two, but Briscoe ducked a clothesline, hit a leaping back elbow into the double down. Zay made the hot tag and ran wild briefly on Benjamin until Quen tagged in and we got a series of double dropkicks. They held the ropes open as Briscoe hit a somersault dive onto Lashley. MVP & Benjamin were flattened back inside, as MVP & Zay tumbled outside, as Quen laid out Benjamin with a Flatliner for two. Lashley launched Briscoe with an overhead belly to belly, as Private Party hit Poetry in Motion on Benjamin. Lashley got in the ring and squashed Quen with a spinebuster and Zay with a Spear as Benjamin hit a superkick on Quen and got the pin, while MVP hit a charging knee on Briscoe ringside.

-We’re told Cope vs. PAC will happen next Wednesday as a quick video package on the friendship of Cope & FTR was shown after.

-Swerve Strickland vs. Ricochet will take place 3 weeks from tonight on Dynamite

Jeff Jarrett & MJF Face-to-Face Part 2

Jarrett came to the ring to a nice ovation from the crowd, as he said the last few weeks have been humbling before immediately being interrupted by MJF’s music. MJF walked to the ring and said last week he gave Jarrett an opportunity of a lifetime, but was turned down. Jarrett cut him off and said MJF was too lazy to enter the Casino Gauntlet and tried to scheme, when MJF screamed for Jarrett never to interrupt him again. MJF cooled down and said he’s a living legend, as Jarrett has convinced these dumb schmucks he’s one, too. MJF said Jarrett is the Last Outlaw because he’s the last thing you see before your favorite wrestling company dies. MJF called Jarrett a pro wrestling Grim Reaper and said thinking of his career makes him want to drink. MJF apologized and called Jarrett a raging…recovering alcoholic and said he’ll send Jarrett’s ass packing back to rehab where he belongs. MJF said to make sure his sexy MILF of a wife sticks around, as he’s a fan of Karen, but when he’s done with her, he’ll ship her back to Nashville so Jarrett knows what a Generational Talent & Olympic Gold Medalist balls taste like.

Jarrett said all MJF does is make cruel insults and said he knows his best years are behind him, but entering the Owen Hart Cup last year made him realize he still wants to keep going. Jarrett said it’s exactly what’s needed to get him on track to become AEW World Champion. MJF thinks he can hurt Jarrett’s feelings, but he did everything like this before MJF and better than him. Jarrett is confused whether MJF is a dumbass, scumbag or all of the above. Jarrett said it must be tough being raised by a call girl mother and knows for a fact when his father knocked his mother up, she still made him pay for it. Jarrett said the old saying is we’re married to our mommies, MJF’s is nothing but a Canadian call girl. While MJF was burning it up for 60 minutes with Will Ospreay, his old lady was doing the same thing with a bunch of wrestlers in the back. Jarrett said MJF is drowning in his own sh*t, an entitled prick, a scared little boy, who won’t enter the Gauntlet, scared of becoming a one hit wonder.

MJF said he didn’t need his daddy to make him a top guy or start his own company to be a top guy, MJF made MJF. We know what happens when Jarrett is King of the Mountain, while MJF is to thank for record PPV buys, ticket sales and is the Best in the World, but then he got screwed. His name, reputation, legacy, dragged through the mud, as he doesn’t want to win the World Title, he needs to win it, to shove it down all his detractor’s throats, but has to wait in line for Jeff Jarrett? With all due respect, no wrestling fan has ever given a sh*t about Jarrett. What pisses MJF off is just because Jarrett was best friends with Owen Hart, he’s owed a grand finale, but he sees through his BS. Jarrett is nothing more than a leech, riding the coattails of his deceased friend. Jarrett finally popped MJF with punches until security hit the ring to pull him back. Karen Jarrett came in and tried to calm Jeff down, but MJF grabbed her and threw her into Jeff before bailing. This was a long segment, but had some good lines.

HOOK (w/Katsuyori Shibata) defeated Christian Cage (w/The Patriarchy) via disqualification

(This feud started back in October and we finally got the one-on-one showdown and it’s obvious that they aren’t done yet, especially with the big return of Joe after. The match itself was fine, but I wasn’t begging to see a rematch after this. The Patriarchy just don’t feel like that strong of a group right now. I always seem to forget Cage has a guaranteed World Title shot in his back pocket, too.)

HOOK attacked during Cage’s entrance and even had a brief stare down with Mother Wayne, as Cage tried bailing up the ramp, but was backdropped over the top into the ring. Cage backed off, tried apologizing, hugging HOOK, who turned it into an overhead suplex. Cage took a hard corner buckle before being comforted by Mother Wayne into commercial.

During break, Kip Sabian & Nick Wayne came out to corner Cage, as Katsuyori Shibata is out to back HOOK. Cage was sent over the top to the outside, as HOOK hit a diving forearm off the apron. HOOK tried stomping the hand on the ring steps, but Cage swept out the leg and HOOK smacked spine first. Back inside, Cage hit three Frog Splashes for two, as Cage wanted a Spear, HOOK avoided at first, but struggled to recover, as Cage ultimately hit a Spear, but HOOK kicked out. HOOK battled back with clotheslines and throws, hitting a Fisherman’s Suplex for two. REDRUM applied, but Cage climbed the ropes to break it, so HOOK just sent him crashing down. Cross face shots from HOOK, but Cage slid through REDRUM and posted HOOK. Shibata held off Wayne & Sabian from attacking, but Cage laid him out with a reverse DDT ringside. Back inside, Cage wanted a Killswitch, but HOOK countered into REDRUM. Cage signaled to Sabian & Wayne, who pounced in the ring for the DQ.

The Patriarchy went to Pillmanize the arm again, when Taz was about to leave commentary, but the music of Samoa Joe hit and he came to the ring to clean house to a massive ovation. Sabian & Wayne were tossed around and destroyed by Shibata & Joe, as Cage & Mother Wayne retreated.

-Video package of Switchblade Jay White saying he’s going to get his hands on Wheeler Yuta, The Undisputed Kingdom say they will get gold in 2025 and Daniel Garcia telling them to bring it on.

**********

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Jeff Jarrett, when Dustin Rhodes walked into the shot before Jarrett could talk about MJF. Rhodes said MJF doesn’t know a thing about the miles Jarrett has had in his career. Rhodes put all his support behind Jarrett and said MJF has no clue what they’ve been through during their career. Rhodes hyped up Jarrett and said he’s a 12-time World Champion, Outlaws never die and they’re the last of their kind.

Toni Storm won the Women’s Casino Gauntlet to earn an AEW Women’s Title match at Grand Slam: Australia

(They never actually told us the time on commentary, but a graphic read Grand Slam will be shown on TNT & MAX on February 15 during Collision’s time slot. They should probably inform the crowd about this, you’d assume. As for the match, it was fine, the surprise of Bayne was pretty much the most noteworthy thing to happen here aside from the finish. She looked strong throughout, as once Storm showed up, you knew she was winning this thing. We’re finally getting a rematch from All In in Australia between May & Storm.)

Mariah May joined commentary for this match, as Kris Statlander is first after winning the three-way last week to get this spot. Jamie Hayter was second, as she & Statlander had a nice back and forth, as May took a shot at Anna Jay not being allowed in this match, having lost any future shots at the Women’s Title last month against May. Megan Bayne is in third, as May is almost speechless, but asks what Bayne eats for breakfast, babies? Bayne flattened Statlander with a leaping clothesline and Falcon Arrow for two, as Hayter broke it up. Hayter fired off shots, but Bayne no sold, tried a suplex, but Hayter reversed into a DDT. Julia Hart is 4, out through the babyface tunnel and brawls with Hayter on the ramp, as Statlander & Bayne fight ringside, with things going to commercial.

Willow Nightingale is 5, as Bayne was waiting for her, as the two started throwing shots immediately. Statlander cut things off, attacking Bayne, as the double team suplex left Nightingale & Statlander smiling at one another, until they both chopped the hell out of each other. Nightingale pounced Statlander, as Toni Storm, the hottest AEW “rookie” is 6 and she runs wild with snapmares and shoulder blocks aplenty. Bayne launched Storm onto Statlander on the ramp, but turned into a Nightingale missile dropkick. Hart & Hayter suffered the same fate before Nightingale wiped out Bayne with a dive off the apron. Statlander flew off the stage onto both ladies, but Storm took her out with Sweet Cheek Music. Hayter & Hart were left with a hockey fight in the ring, as Harley Cameron is 7, as she scrambled for pin attempts.

Hart avoided Hayterade, but not the Hayt-breaker, as Cameron nearly stole a pin on Hayter for two. Another Hayt-breaker to Cameron, who ducked Hayterade, only to be misted by Hart. Thrust kick delivered to Hayter, as Hart went to end things on Cameron, when Storm slid in and got an inside cradle to pin Hart and win the match.

Jon Moxley (w/Marina Shafir) defeated Powerhouse Hobbs to retain the AEW World Title

(I thought the match was good, but Moxley’s matches have this formula now that he’s a big heel and it’s gotten incredibly repetitive. I know it took a lot to put Hobbs away, but it was just overkill. I’m not sure why they’d Pillmanize the leg, as that usually is a way to write people off for a few weeks, but Hobbs is scheduled for the 12-man tag on Collision, so we’ll see where it goes. I just hope Hobbs stays in the upper-level of guys and doesn’t fall down the ladder, he’s been able to hang with the main eventers.)

Moxley entered the arena with Shafir walking through the cold, snowy Cincinnati night, as before the match was about to begin, Claudio Castagnoli & PAC ran distraction at the bell to allow Moxley the upper hand. They immediately retreated, but Hobbs gained control soon after with clubbing blows. Taz said he was proud of former Team Taz members Hobbs, Brian Cage & HOOK (no mention of Ricky Starks) as he quickly said for being part of this show. Moxley was able to battle back with a dive to the outside, but it was short lived, as Hobbs won the brawl in the crowd. They head back to the ring, as Moxley quickly took over with punches in bunches in the corner, but opted to trash talk, only pissing Hobbs off, as he drove Moxley to the corner where he bit at the ear, apparently trying to bite off the ear ring. Moxley was sent crashing outside, as Hobbs was in control during commercial (Schiavone had said they were sticking with this til the end, but that wasn’t the case if you’re watching on TBS).

Hobbs kept biting at the ear and now has Moxley’s blood on his mouth, as Moxley fired off a cutter for the reset. Forearm exchange until Moxley sent Hobbs to the floor, he took the ref and Shafir got in some cheap shots. Quickly back inside, Moxley wanted Death Rider, but Hobbs powered out into a shoulder tackle. Hobbs mowed down Moxley with a series of clotheslines and World’s Strongest Slam for two. Hobbs connected on an Avalanche powerslam, but Moxley used the momentum to roll through into a cross-arm breaker. Hobbs got the ropes, as the ref backed Moxley off. That distraction allowed Wheeler Yuta to sprint in for a Busiaku Knee and hightail it, as Moxley wanted a Death Rider, but Hobbs hit a desperation Spinebuster. Hobbs lowered the straps, wanted a Torture Rack, but Moxley got the rear naked choke. Moxley stumbled out, grabbed the ref, allowing Shafir to smack Hobbs with the briefcase and Death Rider but kicked out at two. Moxley sank in the Bulldog Choke and Hobbs passed out to give Moxley the win.

Post-match, Death Riders hit the ring as a group, but Hobbs briefly fought them off. Castagnoli used a chair on the previously injured leg, as they tore the brace off it and took turns smacking the leg with the chair. They Pillmanized his leg with the chair and right after it happened, Rated FTR made the save and chased off Death Riders to end the show.

Powerhouse Hobbs wins Casino Gauntlet, earns AEW World title shot

Powerhouse Hobbs has earned an AEW World Championship match.

Hobbs won the Casino Gauntlet match on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite to earn a shot at Jon Moxley and the AEW World title at next week’s Maximum Carnage edition of Dynamite.

After his victory, Hobbs was interviewed in the ring by Renee Paquette, and promised to make Moxley his “b-tch” next week in their World title tilt.

Hobbs outlasted Jay White, Hangman Page, Wheeler Yuta, Ricochet, Adam Cole, Daniel Garcia, Roderick Strong, Lance Archer, Kyle O’Reilly, and Jeff Jarrett in Wednesday’s Casino Gauntlet, pinning O’Reilly with a spinebuster.

For his part, Moxley was involved with Cope on Wednesday’s Dynamite, as his Death Riders group surrounded and beat down the Rated R Superstar. Hobbs entered to make the save for Cope, but Moxley and his Death Riders retreated rather than engaging with the next World title challenger.

Moxley has held the AEW World Championship since defeating Bryan Danielson for the belt at WrestleDream last October. Danielson’s full-time career ended with the match.

Two title matches announced for AEW Worlds End

The lineup for the year-end All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view event continued to take shape on Saturday night.

During this week’s taped episode of AEW Collision: Winter is Coming, two new championship matches were announced. Mariah May will defend the AEW Women’s title against Thunder Rosa in a Tijuana Street Fight, while Konosuke Takeshita will defend the AEW International title against Powerhouse Hobbs.

In a backstage segment in the first hour of Collision, Thunder Rosa spoke with Tony Schiavone for a brief interview. After “meeting” the “new” Toni Storm, who crashed the interview to fawn over the former AEW Women’s Champion and legendary commentator, Rosa got down to business, saying her father will be with her in spirit when she squares off against “The Glamour”, confirming the title match for later this month.

Additionally, the second hour of the show saw Don Callis in a backstage promo segment announcing that “The Alpha” Konosuke Takeshita will be defending his AEW International Championship against former Don Callis Family member Powerhouse Hobb.

AEW Worlds End 2024 is scheduled to take place on December 28 from the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida, featuring the following advertised lineup:

* Jon Moxley (c) vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Hangman Page vs. Jay White (AEW Title)
* MJF (c) vs. Adam Cole (Dynamite Diamond Ring)
* 2024 AEW Continental Classic League Finals & Championship Finals
* Mariah May (c) vs. Thunder Rosa in a Tijuana Street Fight (AEW Women’s Title)
* Konosuke Takeshita (c) vs. Powerhouse Hobbs (AEW International Title)

Powerhouse Hobbs: I’ll deal with Jon Moxley when the time comes

It sounds like Powerhouse Hobbs has vengeance on the mind when it comes to Jon Moxley.

This April, Hobbs suffered a ruptured patellar tendon while facing Moxley on an episode of AEW Dynamite. The injury kept him on the shelf for nearly seven months as he recovered from surgery. Hobbs made his return to AEW programming three weeks ago, fighting against his former faction members in the Don Callis Family.

Hobbs has promised to be an even more intense version of himself in his return from injury. Moxley — the AEW World Champion — is on a warpath in AEW with a storyline where he’s attempting to force the promotion back on the right track. A matchup between the two would make sense down the road, and AEW uploaded an interview today where Hobbs addressed the possibility.

Renee Paquette asked Hobbs if he holds resentment toward Moxley for his injury.

“Respectfully, I’ll deal with that when the time comes,” Hobbs responded.

Moxley retained his AEW World Championship against Orange Cassidy in the main event of Full Gear this past weekend. Darby Allin, Christian Cage, Hangman Page, and Jay White are being positioned as potential title challengers at the moment.

Paquette’s full interview with Hobbs can be watched below. It’s centered around his recovery from injury with Hobbs opening up about the depression and anger he dealt with after getting hurt.

Powerhouse Hobbs: I’m going to show how much more intense I can be

Powerhouse Hobbs plans on adding more intensity to his character.

Hobbs ruptured his patella tendon during a match with Jon Moxley in April. He returned to the ring two weeks ago, teaming with Ricochet against members of the Don Callis Family. After spending seven months on the sidelines, Hobbs says he’s ready to bring more of his real life into the character he portrays.

Hobbs told Uproxx:

“I’m going to start bringing my life into my character, the things that I hate, the things that I love. I’m just gonna show everyone how much more intense I can be, how destructive I can be, how I don’t give a shit at times who’s in my way. In the end, this business, there only can be one. It’s going to come to a point where I’m going to show everybody that it’s all about me. They’re either going to be with me or be against me. It doesn’t matter. They boo me, I’m just going to start tearing everything up in front of them.”

“And I think that’s what wrestling is missing a little bit. That one guy who makes people afraid, but they want to see him kick someone’s ass. I feel that it’s time to bring it out.”

Earlier in the interview, Hobbs reflected on the response he received two weeks ago on Dynamite when he returned.

“It was one of those things where it let me know how special this business is, how special the fans are,” Hobbs said. “When it comes down to it, we do it for them. We do it for their entertainment. We do it for their reactions. We do it because we love it. We all love to go out and perform in front of them. But then when they go ahead and give you that love back, man, it makes you want to go even harder.”

Hobbs is scheduled for a match on this Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite. He’ll team with Ricochet, Mark Davis, and Will Ospreay against the Don Callis Family’s Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer & Brian Cage.

The 33-year-old debuted in AEW during the summer of 2020 as a member of Team Taz. In 2023, he defeated Wardlow in a Falls Count Anywhere match to win the TNT Championship. He dropped it back to Wardlow six weeks later.

Powerhouse Hobbs returns, teams with Ricochet on AEW Dynamite

Powerhouse Hobbs is back.

Ricochet introduced Hobbs as his mystery partner in the main event of Dynamite, where he and Hobbs went on to defeat Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher. Following the bout, Fletcher took out Hobbs with a steel chair. Mark Davis came out and confronted Fletcher, but was met by Lance Archer and Brian Cage. Will Ospreay then came out to make the save, clearing the ring as the show went off the air.

Prior to the match, Ricochet explained that Hobbs’ contract with the Don Callis Family had expired last month, and Hobbs was mad that no one checked in on him during his recovery.

Hobbs was injured back on the April 24 edition of Dynamite, where he blew out the patellar tendon in his knee during a match against Jon Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight title. In recent months, he had been backstage at AEW shows meeting with doctors, and in October revealed he was cleared for an in-ring return.

Powerhouse Hobbs confirms he’s cleared for AEW return

After a six-month absence, Powerhouse Hobbs should be making his AEW return soon.

Hobbs has been sidelined since undergoing surgery for a torn patellar tendon this April. The injury happened on the April 24 episode of Dynamite while Hobbs was facing Jon Moxley.

Recently, Hobbs has been backstage at AEW shows and it was reported that he’s been cleared to return to the ring. He confirmed that news while speaking with In The Kliq this week.

“Ruptured my patellar tendon, so it was a pretty gruesome injury. But me being me. I’ve been cleared,” Hobbs said. “Healed up pretty fast. You know, got that Wolverine serum in me a little bit. But, yeah, I’m cleared. I’m back. It’s already been put out there in the universe and in the internet world that I’m cleared. So, it’s time to pick up where I left off.”

When asked about a potential date for his return, Hobbs teased that he could show up at any time.

“You just got to stay tuned,” Hobbs replied. “You never know when I may show up.”

The 33-year-old Hobbs is a former AEW TNT Champion. This week’s Dynamite from San Jose is taking place near his hometown of East Palo Alto, California. AEW will also be in Stockton, California on Thursday for a Collision/Battle of the Belts taping.

Tony Khan AEW media call: Latest on WBD negotiations, injuries, Sting, ‘insane stat’

AEW head Tony Khan spoke to the media for an hour Thursday ahead of Saturday’s All Out, giving updates about his impending TV rights renewal with likely partner WBD, injury updates on Powerhouse Hobbs and Mark Davis, and Sting’s status with the company.

He also shared what he considered an “insane stat.”

The full audio from the call can be heard below.

On the TV rights end, Khan continued to heavily suggest that they will be renewing with WBD and are continuing to have “great conversations” with them. No timetable was given, but he said recent media reports about the deal are accurate without specifically saying which ones.

When the deal happens, Khan said it’s reasonable that AEW will become the second-most profitable wrestling company of all-time during the immediate stretch after the deal kicks in. No financial terms or increase in rights fees were hinted at.

He again said the deal is in the red zone and will be a “huge touchdown” for AEW. It’s just waiting to be pushed in.

Khan said he’s been learning a lot about AEW fans during the TV rights negotiations, including some information he didn’t even know about his company.

He then talked about how much wrestling fans have changed in terms of knowing the news and the business. He said it’s a golden age now and AEW is a huge part of the wrestling conversation now. Historically, the avidity has never been higher: a word he used several times during this portion of the call.

One stat he made a point to call “insane:” Of all the world’s sports leagues, the league whose fans spend the most per month on streaming video is AEW. He did not cite his source or other details on where that stat came from.

**********

Khan was asked if Sting remained under any kind of AEW contract given his recent appearance at All In. Khan didn’t answer directly, saying Sting was in the “AEW family” and was also recently backstage in Dallas, Texas, during their residency in Arlington.

**********

He also gave updates on two injured talents in Powerhouse Hobbs and Mark Davis. He confirmed Hobbs had been backstage recently to visit doctors, and that Davis had surgery on his arm. He didn’t provide any timeline for when either could be back, nor if Davis would be paired up with Aussie Open partner Mark Davis upon his return.

Other notes:

  • Asked about a potential women’s Casino gauntlet match perhaps at All Out, Khan said he thinks it would good to build one up and advertise it in the future. He wouldn’t commit to doing one this weekend.
  • Asked about their relationship with GCW and Josh Barnett, Khan said he likes and respects Barnett a lot but doesn’t really know the GCW team that well.

Powerhouse Hobbs has been backstage visiting AEW doctors

Powerhouse Hobbs is making good progress in his injury recovery, but he isn’t ready to return yet.

Hobbs underwent surgery to repair his patellar tendon after suffering a significant knee injury during a match on AEW Dynamite this April. He was reportedly backstage at Dynamite in Milwaukee this week, which Tony Khan confirmed while speaking with the wrestling media on Thursday afternoon.

When asked about Hobbs’ status, Khan said Hobbs has been at multiple AEW events visiting doctors and getting check-ups. AEW is looking forward to getting Hobbs back soon, though he still needs “some time” to recover.

“Will Hobbs has been visiting the doctors,” Khan said. “It’s been several months of Will Hobbs being out. We’re hoping to get him back soon, but I think there’s still some time he needs for the recovery. But Powerhouse Hobbs is a huge part of AEW. He’s been a great champion here in AEW. He’s absolutely one of the most popular stars. And we really look forward to getting Will Hobbs back. I can’t say the exact date, but he’s definitely somebody in our plans that we want to get going into AEW again soon. And it’s bene really nice to see Powerhouse Hobbs backstage a couple of times lately visiting us. This wasn’t the first time we’ve seen him, which is a good thing that he keeps coming in for check-ups and is making good progress.”

Hobbs’ injury happened while facing Jon Moxley on the April 24 episode of Dynamite from Jacksonville. He hurt his knee while going for a splash into the corner.

Paul Wight recently had huge praise for Hobbs, calling him one of the top three nicest and most humble people he’s ever met in wrestling. The 33-year-old Hobbs is a former TNT Champion for AEW.

Paul Wight: Powerhouse Hobbs is amazing, one of the nicest people I’ve ever met

Paul Wight has nothing but great things to say about his AEW co-worker Powerhouse Hobbs.

The two big men were on opposite sides of an eight-man tag team street fight on AEW Dynamite last November. During the match, there was a spot where Wight was taken out when Hobbs slammed him onto the hood of a car. Wight and Hobbs were then on opposing teams in a six-man tag match on the Chris Jericho Cruise this January.

During an interview with Downunder The Ring, the former Big Show praised Hobbs as one of the nicest and most humble people he’s ever met in pro wrestling.

“Will Hobbs is amazing. I have nothing but nice things to say about Will. One: He looks like an absolute monster. Two: He is one of the nicest, humble human beings – and I’ve met a lot of people in this business – Will Hobbs is top three most humble and nice people I’ve ever met,” Wight said.

“And when you talk to Will Hobbs and you give him advice from your perspective – because I tell talent all the time, ‘You can take in information, process it. It may work for you, it may not. But listen to it.’ You give Will Hobbs advice on something, ‘Hey man, in my opinion, this, this, and this’ – he’ll go out and try it, and he’ll change it, and he’ll make a change immediately.”

Wight said that, when he gives younger AEW talent advice, it’s usually about little character stuff.

Both Wight and Hobbs are out of action at the moment recovering from surgery. Wight had a partial knee replacement done earlier this year, while Hobbs had surgery done to repair his patellar tendon.

The 52-year-old Wight told Downunder The Ring that he’s hoping to be back in the ring soon for one last run using his Captain Insano character from the movie “The Waterboy”
