Wheeler Yuta interview, two new matches added to AEW Collision

For the first time since February 2023, Penelope Ford will return to in-ring action as part of Saturday’s AEW Collision.

Ford will take on Robyn Renegade in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in her first bout since competing against husband Kip Sabian for Japan’s DDT in February 2023. Her last match for AEW was in December 2022 on an episode of the now-defunct Dark: Elevation.

Ford has been out due to suffering a miscarriage which she and Sabian detailed last year.

After returning recently and targeting Jamie Hayter, Ford is preparing for a match against Hayter on the November 6th Dynamite in Manchester, New Hampshire. Hayter is 4-0 in singles matches since her return this past August after her own lengthy absence. While the two have teamed twice in the past, the Manchester match will mark their first-ever singles meeting.

Nigel McGuinness will interview Wheeler Yuta where it’s expected that the Blackpool Combat Club member will address his betrayal of Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream.

Jay White will look to rebound from his recent loss to rival Hangman Page when he takes on Shane Taylor. White called out Page on Wednesday’s Dynamite as another meeting between the two is on the horizon.

Here’s the current card:

  • Ricochet vs. Lio Rush
  • Penelope Ford vs. Robyn Renegade
  • FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs. La Faccion Ingobernable (Rush & Dralistico)
  • Jay White vs. Shane Taylor
  • Nigel McGuinness interviews Wheeler Yuta

Jamie Hayter vs. Penelope Ford set for November 6 AEW Dynamite

Jamie Hayter and Penelope Ford will square off on the Wednesday, November 6 AEW Dynamite.

The new match for that show was announced during this week’s Dynamite. Ford made her AEW return at Dynamite Title Tuesday earlier this month, hitting Hayter with a chair and costing her a number one contender’s match.

Ford has been sidelined due to an undisclosed injury for over a year. She last wrestled for DDT in February 2023, with her last AEW match coming in October 2022. Ford and Kip Sabian opened up about their miscarriage last year, including the aftermath where Ford had to undergo emergency surgery to treat a fibroid the size of a cantaloupe.

Hayter made her own return to AEW in August after missing more than year with her own injury situation.

The announced card to this point for the Wednesday, November 6 AEW Dynamite:

  • Jamie Hayter vs. Penelope Ford

Penelope Ford attacks Jamie Hayter in AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday return

Penelope Ford is back.

During a four-way match to crown a new number-one contender for the AEW Women’s Championship, Jamie Hayter was cornering Saraya, who she recently defeated at AEW Grand Slam. However, she was suddenly attacked from behind with a steel chair shot by Ford. Hayter chased Ford to the back as the match, which also featured Nyla Rose, was ultimately won by Willow Nightingale, who pinned both Saraya and Harley Cameron.

Ford hasn’t wrestled in nearly two years, last wrestling a mixed tag match with Kip Sabian back on an episode of AEW Dark: Elevation back in October of 2022. In February of 2023, she lost the DDT Iron Man title to Sabian.

Upon her return, Excalibur noted that she had been out of action with an undisclosed injury. Back in April of last year, Ford opened up about her and Sabian’s struggles with a miscarriage. Ford also revealed at the time that she was suffering from a fibroid that was “the size of a cantaloupe” that ultimately required surgery.

Sabian has recently resurfaced on AEW television as someone who’s been the brunt of Christian Cage’s insults, with Cage frequently making references to Sabian’s deceased father.

AEW’s Penelope Ford & Kip Sabian detail suffering a miscarriage

AEW’s Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian have posted a video addressing the miscarriage that the couple suffered last year.

In a video posted to their YouTube channel, the couple detailed their pregnancy from 2022, and ultimately the miscarriage, and physical and mental health complications that arose from their suffering.

Ford and Sabian said that while they have always wanted to have children, that their 2022 pregnancy was unexpected, and that they were nervous to tell AEW owner Tony Khan about it. They said that their trepidation and anxiety went away when telling Khan, who gave them “the biggest hug.”

Ford said:

“When we told out boss, Tony Khan, that we were expecting, he had this stack of papers in his hands, and as soon as he heard the news, he just threw them and they went all over the room.”

Sabian said:

“If you’ve ever seen on the stage when a new person has debuted and smashed it out of the park and he gives them that jumping hug, that’s the hug that we got.”

The couple went on to detail the fact that they made an ultrasound appointment for the 11-week mark of the pregnancy, but that Ford suffered bleeding at around the 10-week mark that required an emergency room visit.

There the couple discovered that Ford was also suffering from a fibroid “the size of a cantaloupe.”

Ultimately, Ford lost the pregnancy, and later required surgery to remove the fibroid.

The couple said that they went into such detail as part of their grieving and recovery, and to raise awareness.

Sabian said:

“We wanted to get this video out for our healing process, and to know that it’s okay to talk about this kind of thing.”

Toni Storm vs. Penelope Ford title eliminator match set for AEW Dynamite

The interim AEW Women’s World Champion will be in action on Dynamite.

AEW announced on Wednesday that Toni Storm will face Penelope Ford in a title-eliminator bout. It will be the first time the two have faced each other.

Three matches and one segment are now confirmed for the show. Additionally, our own Dave Meltzer is reporting that the situation involving what happened after All Out will be addressed on Dynamite as well.

“This stuff will be addressed on the air tonight. Not sure how in depth or not. Has to be because it involves titles,” Meltzer posted to Twitter

The September 7 edition of AEW Dynamite will take place from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. The announced lineup for the show is as follows:

  • ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta defends against Daniel Garcia
  • Best Friends & Orange Cassidy vs. Death Triangle
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm vs. Penelope Ford
  • Maxwell Jacob Friedman speaks

Athena vs. Penelope Ford added to AEW Rampage

A new match and a promo segment have been added to Friday’s AEW Rampage episode.

In a bout announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite, Athena will face Penelope Ford on Friday’s episode. Ford returned to the ring for the first time since January at last week’s AEW Dark: Elevation taping.

Also added to Friday’s show, Blackpool Combat Club member and ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli will speak.

A pair of title matches, plus a first round match in the World Trios Championship tournament are already set for Friday’s episode.

Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee will defend the AEW World Tag Team titles against Private Party’s Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen, plus Hook defends the FTW title against Zack Clayton. In the Trios title tournament, The Trustbusters will take on Best Friends.

Here is the updated Rampage lineup for Friday, August 19:

  • AEW World Tag Team Championship: Swerve in our Glory (Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee) (c) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen)
  • FTW Championship: Hook (c) vs. Zack Clayton
  • AEW World Trios Championship tournament first round: Trustbusters (Ari Daivari, Slim J & Parker Boudreaux) vs. Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta & Chuck Taylor
  • Athena vs. Penelope Ford
  • ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli speaks

AEW Dark Elevation results: Penelope Ford returns

This week’s edition of AEW Dark Elevation was filmed before Quake by the Lake last week in Minneapolis. Excalibur and “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard were on the call to start the show.

Josh Woods & Tony Nese (w/ Mark Sterling) defeated Arik Cannon & Travis Titan

The two indie competitors in this one come from the midwest area and got a big pop from the crowd, especially Arik Cannon, who comes from the Twin Cities area. The team of Woods and Nese targeted Titan to start the match, working slowly. Cannon got the hot tag and worked to the crowd but Woods broke up a near fall after a corkscrew suplex. Woods and Nese each hit hard knees onto their opponents and then connected on an assisted neck breaker for the win.

The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver & 10) defeated Adam Grace, Drew System, Rylie Jackson & TJ Cooper

John Silver started out the match showing off his great power. Each Dark Order member took their turn hitting their own creative move. The Dark Order cleared out the ring and then chose to do the finish on this poor fella that was wearing short shorts and plaid leggings. The Dark Order connected with a pendulum slam and pinned System for the win.

Serena Deeb defeated Sierra

They started the contest with a test of strength and Deeb won, but Sierra fought back with some forearms. This match was mostly back and forth until Deeb hit the detox followed by the serenity lock for the win.

Konosuke Takeshita defeated Cezar Bononi

They worked really hard and it made for a fun, quick match. This was Bononi’s first appearance in AEW in a month and with how over Takeshita is right now, you can expect where this one was going. Cezar Bononi was working full heel, using the ropes and other dirty tactics. Cezar Bononi hit a big back elbow and a tiger driver for a near fall. Takeshita fought back with two huge knees that knocked out Bononi for the win.

Julia Hart defeated Free-Range Kara

Lots of wrestlers tonight come from the F1RST Organization based in Minneapolis, including Kara.

Julia Hart got out of the gates hot, with a big boot and hellacious clothesline on the outside. I think Kara got in one offensive move during the entire match. Hart took her down by the neck then locked in an abdominal submission for the win. That is now Julia Hart’s 8th straight win in AEW.

Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) defeated Jah-C & JDX

I think Private Party’s entrance took longer than this match did. They got it over with quickly, taking out both members and quickly connected with the Gin and Juice for the win. Private Party takes on the tag team champions Swerve in Our Glory on Friday’s Rampage.

Penelope Ford defeated Heather Reckless

This was Ford’s first appearance with AEW since January of this year. She dominated in her return except for a few right hands from Reckless. Ford rolled out of the ring and baited Reckless into a right hand and threw her hard into the barricade. Commentary noticed Kip Sabian in the front row with the box on his head. He’s been stalking PAC in recent weeks during his All-Atlantic Title matches.

Ford rolled Reckless back into the ring, hit the gutbuster, then locked in the Indian Deathlock for the win.

The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) defeated JT Energy & Justin Fowler

Max Caster had a great freestyle to kick things off, mentioning things like the Trump FBI raid and the breakup of Kim K and Pete Davidson.

The Acclaimed were great as always, coordinating on huge moves in the corner and cleared the ring of both JT Energy and Justin Fowler. They hit their patented scissor handshake, then Caster connected with an elbow drop for the win.

Thunder Storm (Thunder Rosa & Toni Storm) & Hikaru Shida defeated Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero)

Shida and Sakura got things started. but it didn’t last very long. Both teams entered the ring quickly and knocked each other off. The heel team got the upper hand first with Emi Sakura folding up Shida and sipping on her tea. Rose came in and was followed by Toni Storm who took out the entire heel team. This was a hot match with nonstop action. Toni Storm hit a hip attack in the corner and then countered a suplex with a DDT on Shafir for the win.

Final Thoughts:

Lots of matches on this short 45-minute show. I loved the matches that had a direction, but others just felt like a waste of time, especially considering how much talent AEW has on the roster. It’s fun when you are there in the crowd, you can see some fan favorites. But at home watching on YouTube, most of it feels pointless.

Penelope Ford return part of nine-match AEW Dark: Elevation lineup

AEW has announced nine matches for Dark: Elevation.

Hikaru Shida will team with Toni Storm and AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa on the show. They will take on Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir, and Nyla Rose in trios action.

Penelope Ford makes her return to the ring as well and will face Heather Reckless in singles competition. Ford hasn’t wrestled since January. Tony Khan previously stated that she was not medically cleared but did not reveal further details regarding the nature of her injury.

Other notable matches scheduled to air include the Acclaimed vs. Justin Fowler & JT Energy, Julia Hart vs. Free-Range Kara, and Serena Deeb vs. Sierra.

AEW Dark: Elevation airs at 7 p.m Eastern time on YouTube. The show was filmed on Wednesday, August 10 from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The announced lineup is as follows:

  • Hikaru Shida & Thunderstorm (Thunder Rosa & Toni Storm) vs. Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose
  • The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) vs. Justin Fowler & JT Energy
  • Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy) vs. JAH-C & JDX
  • Julia Hart vs. Free-Range Kara
  • Penelope Ford vs. Heather Reckless
  • The Dark Order’s John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno & Ten vs. T.U.G Cooper, Drew System, Rylie Jackson & Adam Grace
  • Tony Nese & Josh Woods w/ “Smart” Mark Sterling vs. Travis Titan & Arik Cannon
  • Serena Deeb vs. Sierra
  • Konosuke Takeshita vs. Cezar Bononi

Penelope Ford returns to AEW during Dark Elevation tapings

The following contains spoilers for AEW Dark Elevation.

Penelope Ford is back.

Ford returned to action prior to Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, defeating Heather Reckless on AEW Dark Elevation. She had been out of action since January, last wrestling on the episode of AEW Dark that aired on January 15 defeating Angelica Risk.

Last month, a fan asked Tony Khan on Twitter if he had “given up” on Ford. However, Khan said it was the “total opposite” and that she wasn’t medically cleared to return to the ring.

Here are full spoilers for AEW Dark Elevation:

  • Tony Neese and Josh Woods defeated Arik Cannon and Travis Titan
  • Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver, and 10 defeated Adam Grace, Riley Jackson, Drew System, and TJ Cooper
  • Serena Deeb defeated Sierra
  • Konosuke Takeshita defeated Ryan Nemeth
  • Julia Hart defeated Free Range Kara
  • Private Party defeated Jah-C and JEX
  • Penelope Ford defeated Heather Reckless
  • The Acclaimed defeated JT Energy and Justin Fowley
  • Hikaru Shida, Thunder Rosa, and Toni Storm defeated Nyla Rose, Emi Sakura, and Marina Shafir

AEW’s Penelope Ford not medically cleared to wrestle

Penelope Ford hasn’t been seen in an AEW ring since January of this year, leading to speculation that she might not be long for the promotion.

However, AEW head Tony Khan said that’s not the case and that the 29-year-old isn’t medically cleared to wrestle.

Replying to a fan on Twitter saying he had given up on her, Khan said “total opposite” and that he “can’t wait until she’s medically cleared to come back.”

It’s unknown what her injury is. Ford was last seen defeating Angelica Risk on a mid-January edition of Dark.

She has remained active on social media and Twitch, but hasn’t discussed any injury. She is doing a signing next weekend in Connecticut alongside The Butcher, The Bunny and The Blade.

There have also been questions as to the return of Ford’s husband, Kip Sabian. Sabian has been on the AEW sidelines since he and Miro lost in the first-ever Arcade Anarchy match to Best Friends last March.

After a backstage attack by Miro to write him off, Sabian underwent shoulder surgery in May of 2021. In recent months, he has been seen on AEW TV in the crowd wearing a box on his head while dressed in a suit. He has yet to be identified on camera, however.

Sabian returned to in-ring action for England indie BWR on July 1st, defeating Robbie X at their fifth anniversary show.

TBS Championship tournament match added to AEW Dynamite

A first round TBS Championship tournament match has been added to this Saturday’s edition of AEW Dynamite.

Ruby Soho will face Penelope Ford with the winner moving on to face Kris Statlander (first round bye) in the second round. Ford attacked Soho on last week’s Rampage after Soho defeated The Bunny to set the match up.

Hikaru Shida vs. Serena Deeb is set for this Wednesday’s Dynamite from Boston while dates for Anna Jay vs. Jamie Hayter and The Bunny vs. Red Velvet have yet to be announced.

The winner of Jay vs. Hayter will face Thunder Rosa (first round bye) in round two, while either The Bunny or Velvet will advance to take on Jade Cargill (first round bye). The winner of Shida vs. Deeb will face Nyla Rose (first round bye).

Here is the announced lineup for Dynamite:

AEW Dynamite | Saturday, October 23 | 8 PM Eastern time —

  • Cody Rhodes vs. Malakai Black III
  • AEW World title eliminator tournament first round: Lance Archer vs. Eddie Kingston
  • AEW World title eliminator tournament first round: Bryan Danielson vs. Dustin Rhodes
  • TBS Championship tournament first round: Ruby Soho vs. Penelope Ford
  • Dan Lambert gives stipulations for American Top Team vs. Inner Circle

Thunder Rosa vs. Penelope Ford added to AEW Dynamite

A new match has been added to tonight’s Dynamite.

AEW’s social media confirmed a match between Thunder Rosa and Penelope Ford for tonight’s show. This stems from an angle that took place on the episode of AEW Dark that aired on Tuesday, where Ford continued to attack Masha Slamovich after Ford had won the match. Rosa, who was doing guest commentary, ran down for the save, chasing Ford away.

“@thePenelopeFord continued to assault her beaten opponent @mashaslamovich after the bell on #AEWDark so guest commentator @thunderrosa22 ran in to save her friend!,” AEW’s tweet said. “Thunder Rosa requested a match vs Penelope & GM @TonyKhan booked it for #AEWDynamite tonight Live at 8pm ET/7pm CT!”

Matches announced for tonight’s Dynamite include:

  • Fifth Labour of Jericho: Chris Jericho vs. MJF
  • The Young Bucks vs. Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy for the AEW World Tag Team titles
  • Sammy Guevara vs. Shawn Spears; Guevara also has a special announcement
  • Sting and Darby Allin vs. 2.0 in a Texas Tornado match
  • Ricky Starks vs. Brian Cage
  • Britt Baker will be in action

Julia Hart vs. Penelope Ford announced for AEW Dynamite

Julia Hart will look to extend a two-match winning streak when she faces the returning Penelope Ford on Friday’s AEW Dynamite.

The frequent companion of the Varsity Blonds (Brian Pillman and Griff Garrison) debuted on AEW Dark earlier this year in April. Her only Dynamite match to date was a quick submission loss to Britt Baker at May’s Blood & Guts.

Ford has been gone from AEW since a late-April defeat to Kris Statlander which snapped a thirteen-match winning streak. The 28-year-old is married to fellow roster member Kip Sabian who underwent shoulder surgery in May.

Here’s the full lineup announced for Friday’s taped show, airing at 10 PM Eastern on TNT due to the NBA playoffs:

  • Wardlow vs. Jake Hager MMA cage fight
  • Penta El Zero Miedo, Eddie Kingston and Frankie Kazarian vs. Good Brothers and Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks
  • Cody Rhodes and Brock Anderson vs. QT Marshall and Aaron Solow
  • Andrade El Idolo sit-down interview with Jim Ross.
  • Darby Allin vs. Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page handicap match
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Cezar Bononi
  • Julia Hart vs. Penelope Ford

Penelope Ford vs. Leyla Hirsch announced for AEW Dynamite

Leyla Hirsch will face Penelope Ford this Wednesday.

Hirsch’s new opponent was announced by TSN. Hirsch will replace Nyla Rose, who will not be attending the tapings as a precaution after coming into contact with an immediate family member that had tested positive for COVID-19.

Hirsch has made a few appearances on Dynamite, most recently losing to Britt Baker. In storyline, Ford is set to be married to Kip Sabian on the February 3 Beach Break edition of Dynamite. That storyline was continued last week when Chuck Taylor lost to Sabian’s best man, Miro. As a result, Taylor will now have to be Miro’s butler for the next month.

Here is the full card for this Wednesday’s show:

  • Jon Moxley returns to action
