Colby Corino to make in-ring return after long injury absence

After undergoing emergency neck and back surgery in July 2025, former NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Colby Corino has a return date to the ring.

Announced by the NWA on Sunday, Corino will be part of Hard Times 6 on Saturday, June 6 at Center Stage in Atlanta. He will take on Axton Ray in his first match since July 27 of last year when he and Shane Williams lost to AJ Francis and Bojack in an indie tag team match.

Corino was a free agent during his time away, choosing to re-sign a multi-year deal with the NWA in January despite rumored interest from both WWE and AEW as he felt he had more things to do and learn, both in the promotion and the indies.

The 29-year-old is the son of former ECW star Steve Corino who currently works behind the scenes in WWE NXT. He has wrestled once for WWE, losing to Mansoor on an episode of 205 Live in September 2020.

Colby Corino gives health update, explains why he re-signed with NWA

Colby Corino has unfinished business with the NWA.

In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp, Corino explained why he chose to remain in the NWA as opposed to exploring free agency.

“So as we went, we were able to talk and come to an agreement that works with everybody. Honestly, I just feel like my work in NWA isn’t done,” he explained. “I still have way more to do, there’s more for me to do on the indies and there’s more for me to do with my wrestling school and the promotion I help run. I just don’t feel done yet. The NWA gives me a place that I’m able to grow or with the, with the people around me and also be able to support my family.”

Corino is currently out of action after undergoing emergency neck and back surgery in July. He now days he feels better and is making good headway towards recovery.

“Every day it gets a little bit better. I’ve been trying to go back to the gym. I’m still not 100% full strength yet, but I’m not limited from doing anything in the gym. I could do all the exercises that I did before. So we’re making good steps,” he said.

While there’s no timetable for his return, he’s hopeful that he’ll be able to wrestle sometime this year.

“I am on track healing and I surely need a little bit more time,” he said. “If everything goes well and everything heals the way it has been. But I think I can definitely say you’ll see Colby Corino, wrestling a match in 2026.”

Corino has found success in the NWA since returning to the promotion in 2023, winning the NWA Junior Heavyweight title that year.

Colby Corino re-signs with NWA despite rumored outside interest

Despite rumored interest from WWE and AEW, Colby Corino is staying put in the NWA.

The NWA announced today that Corino has re-signed with the promotion on a new contract. While the exact length was not disclosed, the NWA stated that it is a multi-year deal. Corino has been featured in the NWA for several years now and is a former NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Corino, the son of former ECW World Champion Steve Corino, is still recovering after being forced to undergo emergency neck and back surgery in July 2025. The NWA notes that an in-ring return is getting closer, but there is no date for it yet. Corino recently posted that a neurologist told him that he’s “healing beautifully” — and Corino said he’ll definitely be back soon.

“Just because I’m broken now doesn’t mean I won’t come back stronger, smarter and better than ever to fulfill my destiny,” Corino said on a recent episode of NWA Power. “That’s to win the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.”

Bodyslam reported earlier this month that WWE and AEW had both inquired about Corino’s contract status, though the report also stated that Corino was in discussions with the NWA about a new deal. His father Steve works behind the scenes in NXT.

Corino has overcome significant adversity in his life, including battling drug addiction at one point.

“Not even 10 years ago I was a homeless iv dr*g addict living in a tent under a bridge,” he tweeted last year. “Today, I have an amazing son, beautiful, supportive wife, and am able to live my dream of supporting my family by wrestling full time. Anything is possible with enough passion and hard work.”

WWE

  • John Cena spoke to People magazine about how grateful he is for his connection to the Make-A-Wish Foundation:
    • I’m so grateful for the time I’ve been able to spend on Make-A-Wish. I’m even more grateful that my fellow [WWE] Superstars, my coworkers, my colleagues, now look at it as an aspirational thing.
    • Because they’re only going to want to meet John Cena for a little bit. And the reason I just drop what I’m doing in that environment to do whatever I can is because the experience can truly make a difference – to talk with the families just like I’m talking to you right now, you get to kit them up for the night, you get to give them stuff that, like I came to see this person, well here’s all the stuff I have.
    • And with me, it’s a great lineup because it’s my ring gear. I’m not giving them like a T-shirt that looks like me in wrestling tights. I’m like, ‘Hey, this is the stuff I’m going to wear. Here, here you go.’
    • And then I’ll ask them for advice. They’ll be like, ‘Oh, you should do this move.’ And I’ll just go put it in the match, because we’re entertainment. I think that’s the absolute magic of sports entertainment. No one in the audience knows that that young person was like, ‘Hey, I want you to do this move.’ And it will seamlessly be put into the performance, but it will affect both of us on a plane that’s indescribable.
  • On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Ivy Nile discussed how much she admires Chad Gable as a performer:
    • Chad has been in this business for so, so long. When I first started with the company, I kind of started unlike anyone else. I started three months before COVID hit, and then I was in the COVID era as one of those people in the audience behind the hockey windows, or whatever. So I was one of those people always there cheering and whatever. And at the time, you know, he was Shorty G at the time. It was crazy to see his growth from there, because I’ve always admired him since then, because it’s crazy no matter what you give him, he kills it. So I think once you get to that level of whatever they throw at you, they know that you can kill it and run with it. It’s such an amazing skill to have that. I aspire to be that.”
  • TMZ interviewed Brooke Hogan about her father Hulk Hogan’s passing.
  • In a post to her Instagram stories, Brooke offered to personally pay for an autopsy to be performed given the questions she has about her father’s death:
    • I’m glad to see that my dad has not been cremated and that [Hogan’s wife] Sky is waiting because of family questions. With all of the speculation and uncertainty of my dad’s death, I want to personally offer to pay for an autopsy if that’s what it takes to get it done. My dad’s dignity and legacy deserves it

  • Colby Corino thanked everyone who has donated to his GoFundMe campaign, which has raised more than $15,000 so far to benefit him in his recovery from emergency neck/spine surgery:
    • I really want to thank everyone who has reached out/donated to my GFM in the past week. I’ve been trying to get back to everyone individually, but the (positively) overwhelming support and love everyone has shown me has been, well, overwhelming, in a good way though.
    • For those who don’t know, I had to undergo emergency neck/spine surgery last Thursday. It was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever had to deal with and I never anticipated something like this would happen, especially so suddenly. The scariest part is I probably wouldn’t have even gone to the hospital if it wasn’t for @ariana.corino making me go when she noticed I had difficulty walking after using a massage gun on my neck one night.
    • But after 5 nights in the hospital, a hair and beard cut, and picking up my old man walker, I am finally home!
    • I have no idea how long I’ll be out for, even the shortest estimates place my return to the ring far on the horizon, but at least I will be able to take it one day at a time at home with my wife, son, and our animals.
    • Given that wrestling was our family’s primary source of income, you’ll probably be seeing me post merch for sale very soon, but if you’d like to donate to the GFM set up by @sean_henderson_w (who deserves a post all to himself), I’ll post that in the comments
    • Thank you everyone who’s shown me love this past week. It really has helped me accept this situation and focus on my recovery and moving on to becoming the strongest I’ve ever been.
    • No roadblock is big enough to keep me out of a ring. It’s just a matter of time

Colby Corino details why he’s not under WWE contract

In a new interview, second generation wrestler Colby Corino went into detail as to his contractual situation with WWE or lack thereof.

Speaking to Matt Koon, Corino confirmed rumors that broke earlier this year that he received a WWE offer and had verbally agreed to a deal. He was told a background check was required which he wasn’t concerned with since he already had one done years prior as part of his first WWE tryout.

The 26-year-old had been preparing to move his family to Florida in a leased apartment following getting an offer which he began to get anxious about due to not hearing anything for nearly a month.

“We were supposed to move to Florida on a Sunday and the Monday before, I get a call. I get told there was a problem with my background check and there was something from seven years ago that I needed to handle that and after that, I’d be good to go. Now, I’m good to go and it seems like that’s not the case anymore,” he explained.

He went on to say that he doesn’t have all the information about what happened, but for now, “It’s not a closed door, but it’s kind of a ‘not right now’ thing.”

He had no idea if the situation was due to a rumored hiring freeze caused by the impending merger between WWE and Endeavor.

The son of former ECW star and current WWE NXT producer/trainer Steve Corino, Colby wrestled once on 205 Live against Mansoor in 2020 in addition to working against Erik of the Viking Raiders during a Raw Underground segment.

He said he isn’t sure what is next for him, but isn’t rushing to figure it out or go anywhere.

Colby Corino announces he’s now a free agent

Colby Corino is now a free agent after finishing up with the NWA.

Corino confirmed his free agency in a Twitter post on Monday. His contract with the NWA expired at the end of 2022.

At last month’s NWA Hard Times pay-per-view, Corino unsuccessfully challenged Davey Richards for the MLW National Openweight Championship. Corino defeated AJ Cazana in an NWA Champions Series match on the NWA Power episode that aired on December 13.

BodySlam.net reported last month that Corino wouldn’t be re-signing with the NWA. The report stated that, once Corino became a free agent, he was expected to travel to the WWE Performance Center and get a thorough look from WWE.

BodySlam.net wrote:

According to sources there is a whole lot of interest in Corino from WWE. Additionally, I was told that once Colby is a free agent in January, that it is expected he will be traveling to Orlando, Florida to spend time at the WWE Performance Center, where he will get a thorough look from the company. It was expressed to me that if things go well, we can expect him to sign with WWE and report to NXT.

Corino’s father, former ECW World Champion Steve Corino, works behind the scenes in WWE. Steve tweeted in response to Colby’s free agency announcement:
