WWE 205 Live results: The Brian Kendrick returns

The Brian Kendrick defeated Tehuti Miles

The Brian Kendrick was quick to disrespect Tehuti Miles following the bell. The returning Kendrick kicked the golden fanny pack of Miles to the mat before the two had even made contact. The pair exchanged brief words before entering a tie-up. Both men traded advantage but it was Miles who succeeded in landing a quartet of arm drags.

Miles took his time as he taunted Kendrick, an act which left Kendrick visibly unhappy. Kendrick landed a kick in retort before driving Miles into the corner. Miles was able to fight free and connect with a peppering of strikes, an Irish whip, and a dropkick. Miles tried for the pin but Kendrick kicked out. Miles took time again to taunt Kendrick, who he was seemingly far ahead of. This allowed Kendrick to roll an unfocused Miles up for a quick pinfall victory.

Kendrick extended his hand to Miles, which Miles reluctantly shook.

This match was here to serve as a critical moment in the story of Miles, at least on the surface. His loss to the wiser Kendrick and the subsequent show of respect should be a catalyst for character development, especially considering his winless 205 Live record.

The match itself was quick and to the point. Nothing was included that need not be and yet it did not feel as if it was missing anything. This was not meant to be a showcase of athletics but instead strictly a device of narrative, and at that, this match fully succeeded.

Tony Nese defeated Liam Gray

Liam Gray was immediately flattened by Tony Nese with a back elbow. Gray tried for separation, but was crushed at every turn by Nese. Nese stood over Gray, taunting him before launching him into the corner with a German Suplex. Nese hit a running knee on Gray before Nese then pinned Gray for the win.

Nese entirely pulverized this man. In fact, Gray was given no offense whatsoever. Nese’s intensity only furthered his gains from this slaughter.

Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch defeated Chase Parker and Matt Martel (Ever-Rise)

Oney Lorcan and Matt Martel started this match, but it was Danny Burch who tagged in moments after the match started and secured a headlock on Martel. Martel was able to tag in Chase Parker, who was also grabbed by a Burch headlock.

Martel was able to make a stealthy tag of which Burch was none the wiser. Burch tried chasing Parker, who he thought was legal, but was clubbed by Martel. Martel dropped a few elbows on Burch before Parker was tagged in again. Parker dropped a bigger elbow on Burch and tried for a pin that Burch kicked out from.

Martel, now legal, hoisted Burch onto his shoulders but Burch was able to wiggle himself free and tag in Lorcan. Lorcan leveled both Parker and Martel with uppercuts. Burch and Lorcan’s attempts at tandem offense were then repeatedly interrupted by Parker at every turn.

Parker, now legal, landed a diving neckbreaker with assistance from Martel. Lorcan barely kicked out from the pin attempt that followed. Parker and Lorcan struggled for a suplex from the apron but only by the aid of Martel was Parker able to come out ahead. The referee then proceeded to yell at both Martel and Parker for their disregard for the rules, allowing Lorcan to make a sly tag of his own. Martel was quickly thrown to the outside by Burch, leaving Parker alone with his fresh opponent. Burch quickly secured a crossface and forced Parker to tap out.

It turns out that Ever-Rise is not a babyface pairing, in spite of their babyface-ish showing last week, in fact, they are as underhanded in tactic as ever. What purpose, if any, this match served other than reverting last week’s happenings is hard to say.

WWE 205 Live results: Six-man tag action

Drake Maverick defeated Leon Ruff

Drake Maverick’s return to 205 Live was not without narrative. The cruiserweight brand’s former general manager came to the ring with a taped up shoulder and an obvious stiffness.

Following the bell’s sounding, Leon Ruff initiated a tie-up with Maverick that Maverick was forced to break from. Maverick wore a face of frustration as he created separation. Ruff tried for a second tie-up and this time took Maverick to the mat and tried for a quick pin. Maverick kicked out but was visibly off-put by the exchange. In the third tie-up, Maverick took control of the arm of Ruff. Ruff was able to fight free with a strong elbow but only after being pressed to the mat and having his arm contorted. Ruff tried to follow up but the referee prevented him from doing so; Maverick was holding his nose and walking from corner to corner.

After Maverick’s referee enforced breather Ruff tried to follow up once more but was laid out with a lariat. Ruff took a while to rise to his feet and was dropped once more after regaining some footing. Maverick unloaded with clotheslines, a dropkick, a bulldog, and a senton all in quick succession. Maverick stood over Ruff and waited for him to rise, but Ruff was unable to. Instead Ruff crawled in Maverick’s direction, using his hands to drag himself forward. Maverick sprung into action with a sunset flip bomb that sent Ruff into the corner. This move was as quick as it was brutal. Maverick then climbed to the top, jumped, and pinned Ruff for the win.

Maverick looked exceptionally strong in this match. It feels as if he still has something to prove.

Danny Burch, Oney Lorcan, and Mansoor defeated Matt Martel, Chase Parker, and Tehuti Miles

Mansoor and Tehuti Miles started this match as the legal men, but Miles tagged Chase Parker in immediately following the bell. Mansoor and Parker entered a tie-up that saw both men trade holds. Parker tagged in Matt Martel who was then thrown across the ring by a Mansoor arm drag. Mansoor allowed Oney Lorcan to tag in and begin wearing down Martel. Lorcan then returned the favor, tagging in Danny Burch who aided in the stretching.

Lorcan, Burch, and Mansoor traded tags until Mansoor was left with a headlock on Martel. Martel was able to break free with a knee to the midsection of Mansoor. Miles tagged in to relive his partner. Mansoor, without hesitation, went off on Miles with fists-a-plenty. The partners of Miles tried to help, but both were laid out by Mansoor, who landed a big clothesline on Miles causing Martel and Parker to hit the ring. Burch and Lorcan hit the ring in response, causing a six-man staredown. Parker and Martel fell back from the staredown, as did Burch and Lorcan. Chaos was averted, at least for the time being.

Lorcan tagged in and tried to roll up Miles. Parker jumped into the ring to break up the pin. Burch and Mansoor were stopped by the referee as they tried to enter which allowed for Martel to strike Lorcan. Miles was then able to connect with a dropkick against his dazed opponent. Miles mounted Lorcan from where he beat Lorcan’s face. Miles led Lorcan to his corner. Martel, Parker, and Miles traded tags and team-based maneuvers until Parker was left as the team’s legal man. Parker, in a very favorable position, climbed to the top rope from which he leaped. Instead of furthering his team’s lead, Parker found himself on the wrong end of Lorcan’s boot. Lorcan then crawled for and succeeded in getting the hot tag.

Burch, now the legal man, began unloading on both members of Ever-Rise. As his team’s last standing body, Miles tagged into the match and was promptly hit with a snug German suplex and an impactful clothesline. Burch tagged in Mansoor, who was rolled up after becoming legal. Mansoor kicked out but the momentum seemed to be in Miles’s favor again. Miles tried to send Mansoor to the outside but Mansoor was able to keep his footing on the apron from where he connected with his corkscrew neckbreaker. Mansoor then lept to the outside with a corkscrew dive to further emphasize he was in control.

Burch and Martel entered the ring and traded strikes. The two struggled for advantage, but Parker entered the fray just in time. Martel and Parker laid out Burch but before they could turn around, Lorcan landed a double blockbuster from out of nowhere.

Mansoor and Miles were still the legal men. As Mansoor re-entered the ring, he set up for a second corkscrew neckbreaker on Miles but was sidestepped by the already wiser Miles. Miles tried for a backslide, but Mansoor rolled out into a pin of his own for the win.

This match was really nothing special – it sort of just happened. There was never a real sense of drama, and there was not a near great enough display of athletics to carry the match.

All in all, it was really just a rehashing of recent events. Mansoor pinned Miles clean for the third time and hopefully final time, at least for now. Mansoor can prove nothing more against Miles.

WWE 205 Live results: Santos Escobar vs. Oney Lorcan

Mansoor defeated Tehuti Miles

Following the night’s initial bell, Tehuti Miles and Mansoor did a stare down. Miles landed two leg kicks, each of which caused Mansoor to pull back. Mansoor, instead of keeping his distance, shot in for a takedown, which he succeeded in getting before being kicked off immediately after. Mansoor tried for a move, but seemed to be stuck in his movement. Miles hoisted Mansoor over his shoulder before synching a headlock.

Miles and Mansoor traded the headlock back and forth. After escaping a prolonged headlock, Mansoor connected with two arm drags but Miles avoided the third. Miles tried to take advantage but Mansoor was able to land the third arm drag before Miles could capitalize. Mansoor sent Miles to the outside with a clothesline. Miles came back in by grabbing the legs of Mansoor moments later. Mansoor, who was now on the mat, was dragged under the bottom rope before being catapulted into it. Miles struck Mansoor, who sold the throat.

Mansoor soon found himself hung over the middle rope. From this position, Miles applied his weight to the damaged body part. Mansoor fell to the mat from where Miles tried for a pin; Mansoor kicked out. Miles lifted Mansoor with a neckbreaker. Miles lifted Mansoor again, landed a second neckbreaker, and tried for the pin once more. Mansoor kicked again. Miles synched in a rear chinlock.

Mansoor sold the rear chinlock as if his lights were going out. Right before the fade to black Mansoor fought to a standing position from where he fell, sending Miles to the outside. Miles grabbed the leg of Mansoor again but Mansoor rolled through, creating a plausible near fall in the process. Mansoor struck Miles before landing an atomic drop into a spinebuster. Mansoor waited for Miles to rise to his feet but Miles sidestepped the attack sending Mansoor over the top rope and onto the apron. From the apron, Mansoor and Miles entered a brief struggle which ultimately saw Mansoor connect with a slingshot neckbreaker. Miles kicked out from the pin attempt that followed.

Mansoor, now in a state of desperation, climbed to the top rope. From the top, Mansoor dove only for Miles to evade his attack. Miles lifted Mansoor, who landed on his feet, for a facebuster. Miles then lifted Mansoor onto his shoulder. Mansoor wiggled free and landed an enziguri. Mansoor then lifted Miles onto his shoulders, pulled in his head, and landed what was essentially the one winged angel at an angle. Miles was then pinned making Mansoor the victor.

This match was dodgy. Miles and Mansoor struggled to get on the same page early on and the match’s layout was lackluster. Things in the opening minutes just happened, the finish just happened – the match just sort of happened. I am still not sure what the narrative to this match was.

Santos Escobar (with Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde) defeated Oney Lorcan

Prior to and immediately following the bell’s sounding, Oney Lorcan dawned a serious game face. He really looked as if he had something to prove. Santos Escobar and Lorcan entered a tie-up that broke almost as soon as it started. Lorcan was forced to pull away – his arm was still damaged from his encounter with Timothy Thatcher at NXT’s Great American Bash. Lorcan tried to tie-up once more but Escobar, like a shark to blood, grabbed the arm. Escobar took Lorcan to the mat with an arm drag and applied pressure to the arm once grounded. Lorcan fought to a standing position and into the ropes to force a break.

Lorcan chopped the chest of Escobar with his injured arm. Escobar not only did not flinch from the strike he also poked at Lorcan who was pulling back due to self-inflicted pain. Escobar took Lorcan to the mat and continued to put pressure on the arm. Escobar used his chin as a point of pressure in a truly unique form of torture. Lorcan was eventually able to free himself by rolling Escobar onto his back and into a pin. The two men rose to their feet.

Escobar secured another takedown. This time Escobar used the position to lift Lorcan by his arm. Escobar used his shoulder and the ropes to attack the injury of Lorcan. Escobar, in a haze of confidence, stepped back and played to the crowd. Lorcan took advantage of this by trying for a pin. After the subsequent kick-out, Lorcan secured control of Escobar. Escobar was able to escape by grabbing the leg of Lorcan. Escobar stepped over Lorcan, leg still in hand, and into a single leg crab. From the crab, Escobar was sure to tie the arm of Lorcan into the move. Escobar soon let go of the leg and turned his attention solely to the arm. Lorcan crawled to the ropes in order to secure the break.

Escobar landed a suplex but only after placing the arm of Lorcan under his weight. Lorcan tried to retaliate after being hoisted to his feet, but was dropped almost immediately after. Escobar then grabbed the arm of Lorcan and slammed it into the ring post. A slow climb to the top rope from Escobar then ensued. Lorcan took this as an opportunity as he met Escobar with an uppercut. The two then entered a struggle atop the ropes. Escobar jumped to the apron, slamming the arm of Lorcan into the turnbuckle in the process. As Lorcan lay in agony, Escobar grabbed his arm again. This time he slammed it back into the post. Lorcan’s arm was continually attacked in the minutes that followed. Strong strikes, extended holds, the whole works.

Escobar at this point was toying with his prey. Only after a missed enziguri from Escobar did Lorcan show signs of life. A barrage of strikes that was punctuated with an impassioned uppercut left Lorcan in the driver’s seat for the first time, at least he would be in the driver’s seat if he were able to follow up. Lorcan sold his injury as if his arm was broken. After trying to approach after prolonged selling, Lorcan had his arm attacked once more. Escobar lifted him up and planted him with the phantom driver which resulted in a pinfall victory.

This match was excellent. From the opening moments to the match’s conclusion it was clear that these men had a powerful and concise story to tell. Escobar’s brutal display of malice was matched in theatrics only by Lorcan’s consistent showing of agony. When a meeting of seemingly unrelated storylines results in such an excellent integration it is worth celebrating.

Santos Escobar to make WWE 205 Live in-ring debut

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar is making his 205 Live in-ring debut on tonight’s episode of the show.

WWE has announced that Escobar vs. Oney Lorcan in a non-title match is set for tonight’s 205 Live. Escobar made his first appearance on 205 Live last week when he accompanied his Legado del Fantasma stablemates Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde for their win against Leon Ruff & Liam Gray.

On night two of NXT’s Great American Bash this Wednesday, Legado del Fantasma defeated Drake Maverick & Breezango in a six-man tag match. Escobar got the win by pinning Maverick after hitting the Phantom Driver.

Lorcan lost to Timothy Thatcher on Great American Bash night one last week. After the match, Thatcher refused to immediately let go of the Fujiwara armbar that he submitted Lorcan with.

Mansoor will also be in action as he faces Tehuti Miles on tonight’s 205 Live. This will be the first time Mansoor has wrestled since March. He’s wrestled on 205 Live once before, defeating Brian Kendrick in November 2019.

Timothy Thatcher vs. Oney Lorcan added to NXT Great American Bash

After asking for the match on Twitter Sunday, NXT General Manager William Regal gave Oney Lorcan his wish shortly thereafter: a match against Timothy Thatcher on this Wednesday’s kickoff to the NXT Great American Bash.

This will be Thatcher’s first match since defeating Matt Riddle in their Fight Pit match on the May 27 episode of NXT. He’s been seen in recent weeks with his “Thatch-as-Thach-can” wrestling school vignettes.

These two aren’t strangers as they have worked together on the indies over the years, but this will be their first clash in NXT.

NXT announced last Wednesday they were reviving the Great American Bash for the next two weeks, going head-to-head with AEW’s Fyter Fest over the same time period. Here’s what’s been announced for the Great American Bash thus far:

Night one (July 1) —

  • Non-title match: NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai vs. Sasha Banks
  • Number one contender’s fatal four-way match: Dakota Kai vs. Tegan Nox vs. Candice LeRae vs. Mia Yim
  • Strap match: Dexter Lumis vs. Roderick Strong
  • Two-on-one handicap match: Aliyah & Robert Stone vs. Rhea Ripley (Ripley must join the Robert Stone Brand if she loses)
  • Timothy Thatcher vs. Oney Lorcan

Night two (July 8) —

  • Winner-take-all title vs. title match: NXT Champion Adam Cole vs. NXT North American Champion Keith Lee

Jake Atlas making WWE 205 Live debut

After taking part in the interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament, Jake Atlas is set to make his 205 Live debut.

WWE has announced that Atlas will be in action on tonight’s episode of 205 Live. His opponent for the match wasn’t announced.

“After a heartbreaking defeat in the NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament that resulted in Atlas falling just one win short of competing for the then-vacant title, the young upstart is looking to rebound with what would be his first victory on the purple brand. Despite the recent loss, Atlas turned heads in the tourney, showing a unique blend of athleticism and toughness,” WWE.com wrote.

Atlas went 2-1 in group matches during the Cruiserweight title tournament, defeating Drake Maverick and Tony Nese but losing to Kushida. Maverick advanced from the group after winning a tiebreaker triple threat match but lost to Santos Escobar in the finals.

Oney Lorcan vs. Chase Parker will also air on 205 Live tonight. Lorcan & Danny Burch defeated Ever-Rise (Parker & Martel) on the May 22 episode of 205 Live. On last week’s show, Ever-Rise defeated Leon Ruff & Adrian Alanis.

Two tag matches announced for WWE 205 Live

Tonight’s episode of 205 Live will feature two tag team matches.

One of those is a six-man tag match. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott will team up with Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch against Tony Nese, Jack Gallagher & Tehuti Miles.

After Miles got a win against Burch the previous week, Lorcan defeated Miles on 205 Live last Friday. Like in his win against Burch, Miles tried to roll-up Lorcan while holding his tights for leverage. Burch alerted the referee about it, Miles started arguing with Burch, and Lorcan rolled up Miles to get the win.

Scott defeated Gallagher on 205 Live last week after turning an armbar attempt by Gallagher into a pin. Nese then attacked Scott after the match.

Ever-Rise (Chase Parker & Matt Martel) vs. EVOLVE’s Leon Ruff & Adrian Alanis will also air on 205 Live tonight. Ever-Rise previously lost to Lorcan & Burch on an episode of 205 Live last month.

WWE 205 Live results: Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott vs. Jack Gallagher

Oney Lorcan with Danny Burch defeated Tehuti Miles

205 Live kicked off with a sort of run back from last week. A reminder that Tehuti Miles scored a surprise win over Danny Burch on the last 205 Live broadcast. This week Miles would be tried with Burch’s tag team partner Oney Lorcan.

Lorcan and Miles engaged in the opening seconds. Lorcan looked to be all business while Miles seemed to be overweening following his victory. Miles shrugged off each tie-up before being taken down. Miles did not take long before kipping up from even a disadvantaged position with an air of earned, even if over present, confidence.

Lorcan chopped and uppercut Miles in response to his complacency. Miles rolled to the outside wherein he encountered Burch. The two began a verbal spat that left Miles distracted. Lorcan chopped Miles once more. Lorcan tried for an Irish whip but found himself on the receiving end of a reversal into a flapjack. Miles intensified his game, he clubbed the back of Lorcan and stomped him in the corner. Miles then placed Lorcan over the middle rope where he choked him with a knee. Miles taunted Lorcan, running his hands through his hair and kissing his biceps before dropping an elbow on a worn Lorcan.

Miles taunted for an extended period, which allowed Lorcan to try for a comeback in his offensive footing with a chop. Miles kicked Lorcan after selling the chop before propping him up and dropping him with a neck breaker. Miles continued his taunting of Lorcan. Lorcan was sent to the mat with a shoulder block and had his arm attacked with a hold that was transitioned into a Fujiwara armbar. Lorcan fought to his feet, but was met with an immediate club to the back. Miles could not help but jeer his downed opponent.

Lorcan responded to the sneer remarks interspersed with chops by entering a rage. Lorcan chopped, uppercut, and elbowed Miles with an incredible intensity. Lorcan then tried to lift Miles who resisted the lift with a rollup. Miles had the tights. Burch called out to the referee from the outside who broke up the pin that would have otherwise left Miles with a second surprise victory. Miles yelled at Burch before Lorcan rolled up Miles. Miles was unable to kick out from the unexpected pin leaving Lorcan the victor.

This match built from what was left last week. It was competently wrestled and leaves the viewer interested in what is to come. So many paths are open in this blooming storyline that anything short of a compelling journey would be a disappointment. This surely is to be continued in the coming weeks.

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott defeated Jack Gallagher

Following the bell, Jack Gallagher tried to avoid a tie-up instead of going for a distanced strike. Isaiah Scott closed the with a clinch distance but was immediately thrown to the ground. Gallagher did not fully engage with Scott on the mat he instead stood over him. Scott tripped the legs of Gallagher and transitioned into a top position. Gallagher secured the guard momentarily before standing with the foot of Scott in hand. Gallagher continued a wear down ground attack with interspersed standing.

While reaching for the legs of Scott, Gallagher was pulled into an armbar. Gallagher struggled free and in the process gained a phenomenal position on the back of Scott. Gallagher clubbed the head of Scott in devastating fashion. Gallagher tried for the arm of Scott but in doing so gave Scott the opportunity to escape his doom. Gallagher drug Scott to a standing position and tried for a whip but was caught with a rana in response.

Scott snapped into action. Scott shot Gallagher across the ring with a dropkick. Scott then jumped from the second rope with an uppercut to the back of a now seated Gallagher. Gallagher kicked from the pin attempt that followed. Scott positioned himself for a top rope dive but Gallagher rolled to the apron. Scott tried for a boot but was caught. Gallagher took the leg of Scott that he now had in hand and snapped it into the turnbuckle post. Gallagher attacked his now enervated opponent with light kicks.

Gallagher taunted Scott. Scott stood up to his taunter but was dropped. This did not stop Scott from standing up once more. This time Scott withstood enough strikes to get in one of his own. Scott landed two large kicks to the chest before being blocked on his third. Gallagher in his riposte uppercut Scott multiple times. When given a moment Scott faked another kick to the chest and tripped Gallagher as he went for the block. Scott connected with the house call kick. Gallagher rolled to the outside but was booted to the floor from an incandescent Scott. Scott drove the head of Gallagher into the mat who then kicked out from the pin attempt that followed.

Scott kicked repeatedly at the chest of Gallagher, but Gallagher took the kicks with Hulk style ease, rising after each blow.  Scott ran at Gallagher. Gallagher leaped and synched in a guillotine choke on an unsuspecting Scott. Scott soon fell to the mat. Scott slowly fought back to a standing position before showing a burst of energy. Scott lifted Gallagher over his head and laid him out with a brainbuster.

Both men rose to their feet at the same time. Scott showed early signs of life, but was met with an elbow that rendered him on his back. Gallagher climbed to the top rope with his back turned. Scott met Gallagher atop the ropes. Scott tried for a superplex but while in the air, Gallagher transitioned over, landing on Scott in position for a pin. Scott kicked out.

Scott and Gallagher rose to their feet simultaneously once again. Gallagher then smashed his skull against the chin of Scott in brutish fashion. Scott collapsed but kicked out from the pin attempt. Gallagher boiled over in shock as well as frustration. Gallagher clubbed Scott. Gallagher tried for an armbar but was rolled through. Scott won the match with a rollup pin.

Tony Nese then ran from the back and attacked the winner. Gallagher looked over the limp body of Scott following said attack.

This match was fantastic bell to bell. Gallagher could believably finish a match at any moment. Scott gelled with Gallagher’s style in particularly great fashion.

The NXT Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament finals then played in full.

While both exclusive matches of the night ending in roll ups might be a little off putting, they each benefited from their finish. The show was fast paced and a very easy watch. This was the best 205 Live in months, definitely the show’s best exhibit during the COVID pandemic.

Two matches set for WWE 205 Live

After defeating Danny Burch last week, Tehuti Miles will face off with Burch’s tag team partner on 205 Live tonight.

WWE has announced that Miles vs. Oney Lorcan will air on tonight’s 205 Live episode. Last week’s match against Burch was the first time Miles has gotten a win on WWE television.

Miles pinned Burch last week with a schoolboy while holding onto his tights.

Miles, who joined the WWE Performance Center in August 2019, has made appearances on NXT, Raw, and 205 Live in recent months. He’s a United States Army veteran, was on the University of Maryland Terrapins football team, and debuted on the Maryland independent wrestling scene before signing with WWE.

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott vs. Jack Gallagher is also set for tonight’s 205 Live. Scott defeated Tony Nese on NXT this week despite a distraction by Gallagher. Gallagher went after Scott after the match, but Scott rolled out of the ring.

Gallagher defeated Scott during the interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament last month after Nese attacked Scott during his entrance.

In addition to the two matches, an encore of El Hijo del Fantasma vs. Drake Maverick in the interim Cruiserweight title tournament finals from this week’s NXT will also be shown on 205 Live tonight. Fantasma defeated Maverick and became interim champion, but Maverick was offered an NXT contract by Triple H after the match.

WWE 205 Live results: Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott vs. Tyler Breeze

Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch defeated Chase Parker and Matt Martel (Ever-Rise)

205 Live’s introductory match this week was a rematch from this week’s episode of NXT. The pairing of Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch got the better of the former team 3.0 in their last meeting.

As the bell sounded, Burch entered a collar-and-elbow tie-up with Matt Martel. The tie-up was broken by the referee after it worked its way into the corner. As Burch and Martel felt each other out, Butch walked in the direction of the Ever-Rise corner wherein he was attacked by both Martel and Chase Parker. Parker tagged in as the two double-teamed Burch.

Parker landed a shoulder tackle once he became Burch’s lone attacker, however during his fall following the previously mentioned shoulder tackle Parker’s leg was apprehended by Burch. Burch stood, Parker’s ankle in hand, and tagged in Oney Lorcan.

Lorcan chopped Parker multiple times prior to an Irish whip attempt. Parker stepped through and reversed Lorcan’s attempted whip sending Lorcan into the corner. Parker then tagged Martel back into the match. Ever-Rise tried to once again double team their opponent but Lorcan, with an uppercut and a single leg Boston crab, was able to take out both men. Lorcan seemed to be in a favorable position with the crab locked in.

A breakup was attempted, but was met with resistance by Burch. Burch was thrown into the hold, breaking it up.

Lorcan was then attacked by both members of Ever-Rise in their corner. Both Martel and Parker took turns tagging each other in and out. Lorcan, after being continually assaulted, was eventually able to float over into a neck breaker. A hot tag followed.

Burch entered the ring and landed a couple of strikes on Parker before having one stuffed. Parker sent Burch to the corner, but Burch met him with a high boot. Burch was then given time to ascend the ropes to deliver a flying dropkick to Parker. Burch ran the length of the ring to deliver a clothesline to a cornered Parker, which was immediately followed by an enziguri which was followed by a release German suplex.

As Parker staggered back to a standing position, he came into close contact with a running clothesline from Burch. Burch covered Parker, but Martel entered the ring in time to break up the pin.

Martel attempted to interfere with Burch further, but was answered with a headbutt. Burch put Parker on the top rope, but Parker pushed his way down. Martel sneakily tagged himself in while Parker simultaneously set up for a double-team elevated neck breaker. Burch was hit with the impressive move in what could have been a completely believable finish. Lorcan entered the ring to break up the pin before that could be realized.

Burch rose to his feet, as did Martel. Both men looked to be winded. Burch connected with a flurry of uppercuts that he tried to follow with a running move but he was stopped by the elbow of Martel. Martel tried for a scoop slam, but Burch floated over into a crossface. Parker hit the ring to try and break the hold, but was immediately stopped by Lorcan. Lorcan sent Parker to the mat with a single leg Boston crab. Martel then tapped to Burch’s crossface.

This match was good, though it seemed to be without purpose. Why Ever-Rise needed to rechallenge Burch and Lorcan remains a mystery to me especially seeing as they were defeated again.

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott defeated Tyler Breeze

Isaiah Scott and Tyler Breeze started this match with an arm drag display that left Scott in a seated position. Scott’s face looked flustered, almost as if he should not have been bested in that interaction. Breeze taunted his seated opponent with a pose in the corner à la Eddie Guererro.

The two then entered a collar-and-elbow tie-up that found its way into the corner. Breeze, being in the advancing position, looked as if he would act in good faith and break cleanly. He did not. He instead ran towards Scott but was leaped over. Scott rolled Breeze in and tried for a kick, but came up short. Scott was visibly discomposed after his miss.

The two stood and reentered a collar-and-elbow tie-up. This time Breeze was backed into the corner. Scott, instead of breaking the tie-up, whipped Breeze into the other corner sending him crashing into the mat.

Scott tried to follow up on his gained advantage with a move from the ropes but slipped during his climb. Breeze then kicked Scott sending him tumbling to the outside. Scott grew even more upset with what was his third fumble. He hesitated to reenter the ring and was ultimately punished by Breeze for his hesitation as Breeze took to the outside for an attack. Breeze blindsided Scott with an elbow before driving him into the barricade.

Breeze sent Scott back into the ring for a cover but was met with a strong kick out. Breeze suplexed Scott and tried for another pin, but met the same fate.

Breeze whipped Scott into the corner before clubbing his back with forearms. Scott began to enter a berserker-style rage as Breeze clubbed away. Scott turned and landed an excellently brief and impactful strike that sent Breeze to the floor. Breeze looked to be out but was able to roll to the outside. Scott wasted no time as he jumped the ropes onto the apron and stomped the head of Breeze. Scott sent Breeze into the after a slam into the barricade and went for a pin that Breeze was able to kick out from.

Scott climbed the ropes, but Breeze stood to meet him. Breeze was unable to stop Scott from jumping but he was able to dodge Scott’s attempted stomp. Breeze landed an enziguri on a turned Scott and pinned him. Scott kicked out. Breeze hesitated in his followup which allowed Scott to float over a suplex attempt. Scott picked up Breeze but Breeze flipped straight to his feet. Breeze went for a rollup but Scott kicked out. Scott then went for a roll-through of his own but instead of a pin Scott transitioned into a suplex. Scott went for the pin but Breeze kicked out.

Scott set up for the house call, his finish, but missed. Breeze tried for the supermodel kick but was caught by Scott. Scott tried for a spinning forearm smash, but again, was caught by Breeze. Scott was able to finally break the stalemate with a neck breaker. Somehow he was unable to follow up and Breeze connected with a supermodel kick. Scott kicked out of the subsequent pin.

Both men returned to their feet. Breeze started to club Scott with forearms again. Breeze lifted Scott to the second rope. Scott kicked Breeze before he could connect with a move. A dazed Breeze then climbed the ropes, Scott escaped under him. Breeze was then lifted by Scott and dropped with the confidence boost. Scott pinned Breeze for the victory.

This match’s first act was good. It dragged in the second. I can not understate how much better this match would have been if it had come to a close following Scott’s initial moment of rage. It just went way too long. The simple, concise story of a frustrated Scott overcoming his early stumbles was lost in the falling action.

WWE 205 Live results: Nese vs. Burch, Lorcan vs. Gallagher

Tony Nese defeated Danny Burch

During the initial moments in 205 Live’s opening match, Danny Burch applied pressure to the left arm of Tony Nese. After being briefly grounded, Nese was able to roll to his feet and force a referee initiated break. Said break allowed Nese to land a headlock takedown on Burch. Burch transitioned from his disadvantaged ground position into a surprise pin attempt. Nese kicked out and both men returned to their feet.

A test of strength followed the reset. Burch prevailed and attempted a single leg boston crab but Nese was able to quickly grab the middle rope. After being stood up once again both men stared each other down for a very brief instant before Nese landed a takedown which he followed with a hold to the left ankle of Burch. As Burch struggled for freedom, Nese placed his foot on the bottom rope for additional leverage. Burch kicked his way free, but was clearly strained.

The two rose to a standing position wherein Burch was immediately taken back down to the mat by Nese. Nese then proceeded to continue his assault on the left leg of Burch with a single leg boston crab. Burch quickly crawled to the rope and kicked off Nese who was not honoring the break ordered by the official.

In the third reset of the match, Burch scored a headlock takedown of his own. Once on the mat, both men traded advantage. Nese was eventually bested on the ring floor but drew in Burch by playing possum next to the ropes. Burch fell for his trap and was sent through the ropes. Nese then landed a flush spinning back elbow sending Burch crashing to the outside. At the count of eight Nese left the ring and began an outside attack which included driving Burch’s back into the barricade and Burch’s head into the ring apron. Nese rolled Burch into the ring and attempted a pin but Burch kicked out.

After Burch kicked out, Nese secured a pseudo-rear-mount that slowed the match to a crawl. Burch ultimately freed himself from this hold. Burch landed a flurry of intense strikes and a huge second rope missile dropkick. Burch hesitated for a moment after a failed pin attempt. Burch then picked up Nese for a standing suplex but Nese floated over.

Burch endeavored to maintain his control with a big boot followed by a german suplex. In a fantastic moment of athleticism, Nese landed on his feet following the release from Burch’s german suplex; Burch landed on his back from the same move. Nese then promptly delivered a seamless double foot stomp to the chest of Burch and hooked his leg for a near fall.

Both men struggled to their feet, Nese was first to stand. Nese took control of Burch’s head, ran him across the ring, and jumped to the floor to force the throat Burch into the top rope. Nese without hesitation jumped from the floor to the apron and then to the second rope where he delivered a stunning moonsault to his grounded opponent. Burch kicked out again.

A frustrated Nese taunted Burch on the ground. Burch was able to take the arm of his mocker and secure a crossface in the center of the ring. In what seemed to be a possible end of the match, Nese rolled the crossface into a pin and nearly picked up a victory. Both men regained footing momentarily. Nese landed a strike that stunned Burch and a german suplex in the corner that rendered him lifeless. Nese then performed a running knee, allowing Nese to pick up the win.

The match was overall quite fun. It could probably have done without the lull before the climax but ultimately it was an entertaining watch.

Following the previous match’s resolution, Nese was yelling at the announce team. Nese was met by Jack Gallagher who was entering the empty WWE Performance center for the main event. The two entered an intense staredown that narrowly avoided coming to blows.

Jack Gallagher defeated Oney Lorcan

This week’s 205 Live main event began with a briskly passed chain grappling segment. Jack Gallagher landed an early takedown. Once on the ground, Gallagher took the back of Lorcan wherein he reined in a few devastating fists to the back of the head. Lorcan was able to avoid any significant damage and made it back to his feet.

Gallagher remained on his back and lured Lorcan into his guard. The two ended up in the ropes and stood up for a moment but quickly returned to the mat wherein they both fought for control of the other’s legs. They again ended up in the ropes and scraped during the standup.

After being stood up again, Lorcan attempted a takedown but was stuffed. The two then struggled for control but Gallagher proved to be better on the ground, at least in this instance. Gallagher landed multiple strikes that rendered Lorcan staggered. Lorcan tried to match the intensity of Gallagher, but was once again bested in strikes not once but twice in two intense sequences.

Lorcan was able to gain advantage when Gallagher connected with a headbutt that resulted in the Gallaher being dazed. Lorcan landed a half-and-half suplex on Gallagher and hooked the leg for a two count pin attempt. Lorcan continued his offense with a shoulder block and a clothesline but Gallagher powered out of both pin attempts. Lorcan then sat Gallagher on the top rope for a half-and-half suplex but was elbowed in the process. Gallagher connected with a crossbody with a turn during the descent.

Both men were laid on the mat flat when Tony Nese re-entered the picture. Gallagher rose to see the man he had just had a sour interaction with brandishing a chair. Before he could act, Lorcan rolled up Gallagher. Gallagher answered the referee’s count at two. Gallagher then landed a brutal headbutt that seemed to signify the end of the match, but before he could follow up Gallagher was attacked by Nese making Gallagher the winner by disqualification.
Lorcan aided his opponent in fending off Nese. Nese took a chair and looked to inflict serious harm on Lorcan but before he could, the music of Danny Burch played and Burch ran to the ring, saving his partner.

This match was incredibly realistic and it at no point lulled. The shoot style segments were intense and meaningful. While the screwy finish might be a turnoff to some, it was an excellent catalyst in concretizing the dastardly nature of Tony Nese while maintaining both Lorcan and Burch.

WWE 205 Live results: Tony Nese vs. Oney Lorcan

By Chick Fritts

Big Takeaways: Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Tony Nese picked up clean wins in an empty WWE Performance Center.

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott defeated Joaquin Wilde

In the opening moments in what was the third 205 Live taped in an empty WWE Performance Center, an immediate change of presentation was noticeable. Following the bell to open the night’s action, it became apparent that a recurring complaint had been addressed; the hard camera no longer faced the empty seats surrounding the ring but instead looked in the direction of the entrance ramp.

As soon as the match began, so did the mat wrestling. Both Isaiah Scott and Joaquin Wilde traded holds on the ground and drags into holds on the ground to open the contest. The initial back-and-forth trading ended when a frustrated Scott rolled to the outside. Wilde attempted a baseball slide, but it was blocked by Scott which trapped Wilde in the apron. A swift kick to the face of Wilde freed him from his trap while also tearing down said apron.

Scott rolled Wilde into the ring and continued his attack. Scott used a collection of strikes and stretches in the second mat wrestling portion of the match. Eventually, Scott worked Wilde into the corner and to the top rope wherein Wilde began to fight for an opening.

Wilde scored the opening and delivered a truly stunning rana to his standing opponent. Scott was sent rolling to the outside but this did not stop the assault from Wilde. Wilde jumped from the ring onto Scott in a wheelbarrow position and managed to transition seamlessly into an arm drag that drove Scott into the announce desk. Wilde sent Scott back into the ring and attempted an Arabian springboard DDT, but was stuffed.

The two men were on equal footing once again. They began to trade strikes but this cliche quickly evolved into a trading of moves. Scott caught Wilde with a German suplex and Wilde answered with a reverse rana. Scott answered the rana with his finisher, the house call. Wilde kicked out of the subsequent pin attempt.

Wilde, for the last time in the match, strived for a momentum shift. Multiple unique reversals were attempted by Wilde but in the end, it cost him the match. Scott caught Wilde mid reversal with a Michinoku driver and secured the pinfall victory.

It’s easy to say this match would have been much better without the slow open. The grappling would have added little to nothing to the match with a crowd but without one it really made the opening bland. The innovative and creative displays of offense and defense from both men saved the match in the minutes that followed. Overall the match was a decent to good watch.

Tony Nese defeated Oney Lorcan

This week’s main event opened with a feeling out process. Multiple collar and elbow tie-ups, multiple tests of strength, and plenty of chain wrestling. Both men proved to be near equals on the mat with a slight edge going to Lorcan. After what felt like ages, a rope break ended the trading of insignificant holds.

With both men on equal footing, an exchange of strikes began. Tony Nese got the better of Lorcan with a kick to the side of his head after a failed rollup attempt. Nese then proceeded to strike Lorcan across the body before slamming him to the mat where the grounded grappling continued. Lorcan was held in by the legs of Nese for some time before a significant strike allowed Lorcan to take full mount.

Lorcan rained forearms on the guarded face of Nese. Unlike the absolutely dry open of this match, this ground exchange. while a little long. felt meaningful to structure the match. Nese was able to roll away from his attacker only to be continually struck after reaching his feet.

Lorcan paused after a kick out from Nese which allowed Nese to shift the momentum in his favor. Nese ran across the ring with Lorcan in hand and drove the neck of Lorcan into the rope. This was followed by a springboard moonsault from Nese.

Nese tried a cover, but Lorcan kicked out. However, Nese did not allow this to interrupt his offense. He instead put a decisive stop to the match with a snug German suplex into the turnbuckles followed by a running knee. Lorcan was then swiftly pinned, making Nese the winner of tonight’s main event.

Not to beat a dead horse. but again. this match would have benefited greatly from a greatly reduced if not totally eliminated feeling out process. It added nothing to the match. What makes the opening minutes a real shame is the two men went on to show they could deliver an interesting and realistic mat wrestling sequence later in the same match.

Final Thoughts: This entire show, as is so common with 205 Live, felt logical but soulless. Someone needs to call for a shortening of the drawn-out matches to give talent a chance to get over on the microphone, be it separate from the in-ring action or post-match. 205 Live is entirely devoid of character.

WWE 205 Live results: Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott vs. Oney Lorcan

By Chick Fritts for F4WOnline

Big Takeaway: Danny Burch and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott picked up clean wins in an empty WWE Performance Center.

Danny Burch defeated Joaquin Wilde

The empty arena show began with plenty of shots of empty chairs. Neither Joaquin Wild nor Danny Burch made notice of his changed backdrop during either entrance.

Following the bell, the match began with a grappling exchange that saw Burch gain an early advantage. During said exchange Burch continually maintained control of Wilde’s left arm. The sequence of chain wrestling temporarily ended after Burch attempted a submission hold and Wilde found a rope break. This gave opportunity to Wilde who used his time to begin an attack on Burch’s left arm.

Wilde was outmatched by the technical acumen of Burch. Burch worked his way through Wilde’s offense and began an attack on the outside of the ring. Burch drove the head of Wilde into the padded barricade’s corner just feet from the announce table. Burch walked away from Wilde which allowed Wilde to retaliate with some light striking when Burch tried to return to action. Wilde then hopped the barricade where he delivered a flying forearm to a stunned Burch.

Wilde sent Burch back to the ring and once again began attacking his left arm. Wilde was sure to taunt the nonexistent audience with the sound of a mouth-produced “DJ Horn” before transitioning to working the arm once again. For the first time, significant mat control from Wilde was maintained.

The technical proficiency of Burch showed again as he found room to deliver a momentum-shifting strike to his attacker. Burch and Wilde traded moves for a moment. Wilde had grounded Burch with double knees to the chest and attempted a double foot stomp from the top rope. Burch avoided the attack and drug Wilde into a crossface that saw Wilde’s left arm restricted. Wilde was forced to submit.

Though overall the match was lacking energy to a degree, it was completely logical. It saw both men working their opponent’s left arm which led to the eventual finish in favor of the more technically proficient Burch.

Following a brief break, the show continued with an extended look at last week’s elimination match. It was revealed that during last week’s match that John Cena looked on from behind the barricade. Cena showered praise on the guys in the ring.

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott defeated Oney Lorcan

The beginning of the main event felt a little awkward after Isaiah “Swerve” Scott taunted to the empty Performance Center. After the bell, Scott and Oney Lorcan entered a prolonged feeling out process. Lorcan and Scott traded nonsignificant advantages for some time.

Scott traveled to the top rope during the last stint of his advantage following the opening grapple exchange. Lorcan caught Scott and delivered a dragon screw leg whip across the rope that sent Scott to the outside. Once the men returned to the ring, Lorcan continued the attack to Scott’s left leg with a varied offense. If Scott tried to take advantage, Lorcan maintained control of Scott’s left leg.

Scott regained his footing with a push-off. Scott then turned Lorcan over and inside out with a beautiful clothesline. Lorcan was sent to the outside with a kick to the chin. Scott kicked Lorcan again and sent him back to the ring where he delivered a flatliner followed by a near pinfall. Scott found himself on the top rope where he delivered a double foot stomp to a grounded Lorcan and secured the pinfall victory.

This match was brief but definitely could act as a catalyst for Scott’s impending singles run following his victory in last week’s elimination match.

Final Thoughts:

This show, in more than one way, this felt like a reset for 205 Live. After a long multi-man and interbrand feud, this episode began the groundwork for the future of the show.
