Jake Atlas arrest video released by TMZ

TMZ released the arrest video from Jake Atlas’ May 2022 arrest for domestic violence on Monday in which the former WWE NXT & AEW wrestler attempted to plead his case by denigrating his partner.

In the video seen below, Atlas (Kenny Marquez) tells the officer that he is “an international trained superstar” and that his partner is a “nobody” before calling him several names and putting him down as a sexual partner.

As the officer responds to an inquiry as to whether he needs backup, Atlas becomes more agitated, saying he has his rights like the officer has his rights. He then put down his partner’s skin color as white, saying that because he is Mexican, “I will do what I need to do to protect myself against you” before saying he wouldn’t like the policemen use his “white power” against him.

As the officer presses him for what happened, Atlas refuses to answer his questions about what happened. Eventually, another officer approaches and Atlas is put into handcuffs.

The domestic violence case against Atlas was dropped in late-June and issued a formal apology in July, saying that he was checking into an outpatient facility to deal with mental health and substance abuse issues.

He has not wrestled since tearing his ACL in a match with Adam Cole on AEW Rampage in January. He is not under contract with AEW and is a free agent.

Jake Atlas issues formal apology, says relationship ‘is not abusive in any way’

Jake Atlas has released a statement regarding an incident that led to him being charged with misdemeanor battery (domestic violence).

Atlas was arrested on May 23 in Orlando, Florida. It is alleged that he was heavily intoxicated and became physically abusive with his partner. It was then reported on June 28 that the charges against him had been dropped.

Atlas’ statement reads as follows:

“I want to thank those of you who will take the time to read this statement.

I’m issuing a formal apology for my wrongdoing and any hurt, disappointment and complication I may have caused to my colleagues and fans.

As incredibly difficult it is for me to publicly disclose very personal and private information, it is imperative that I admit to my alcohol abuse and provide transparency about my deteriorating mental health. I have accepted that my anxiety and depression led me to detrimentally self-medicate for the last 7 years. In addition, a lot of unresolved trauma resurfaced for me recently that was fundamental to the development of some extremely negative core beliefs and I was inadequately able to manage.

An incident occurred a couple of months ago that I am 100% not proud of; I take complete responsibility and accountability for the situation and my actions. I recognize that the state of being intoxicated does not excuse my behavior. I made a terrible mistake. I hurt people I love and it’s something I deeply regret.

The only clarity I wish to provide specifically about what circulated online is this: the relationship is not abusive in any way, shape, or form and this event is certainly not a reflection of my character. One can read a report and choose to take the information for what it is, but to speculate, draw conclusions, and create a narrative that has no merit only adds further damage to those involved. This was a situation that was already being, and continues to be dealt with privately, so it is with great humility that I ask the respect of that privacy going forward.

I would like to share that I have successfully completed an intensive outpatient program at LiveWell Behavioral Health in Florida. I self admitted with a dual diagnosis in substance abuse and mental health. The treatment consisted of 10 hours of group and individualized therapy every week for 5 weeks. The next step in the program is to attend 1 group session a week for 3 weeks and continue individual outpatient therapy thereafter. My time there has been nothing short of extraordinary and life changing – a phenomenal first step in my recovery.

I am human and that makes me flawed. I believe in second chances, I believe in redemption, and in turn, I believe in personal growth. I express my gratitude to those who have reached out to me. I have made exceptional progress and I am excited for my future. I have full faith for a positive outcome from this journey as I continue my sobriety and the process of healing with the support of my friends, my family, and my partner.

Jake Atlas domestic violence case gets dropped

The domestic violence case against former WWE NXT and AEW wrestler Jake Atlas has been dropped.

TMZ first reported Tuesday that Orange County (Florida) officials canceled a Tuesday hearing following an investigation in which “it is the opinion of the writer that this case is not suitable for prosecution.”

The aforementioned documents were filed last week and the matter is closed.

The 27-year-old Atlas (Kenny Marquez) was arrested on May 23rd on domestic violence charges after attacking his boyfriend in an incident that began at an Orlando, Florida, bar and continued at a friend’s house. He was released by police that day with Tuesday set to be his arraignment.

Atlas is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL suffered in an early-January AEW Rampage match against Adam Cole. It was reported earlier this month that he is not expected back in AEW where he had just signed before getting hurt. He was not under contract with them and was working on a per-appearance schedule.

Jake Atlas not expected back in AEW

Former WWE NXT and AEW wrestler Jake Atlas isn’t expected back in AEW, Fightful reported Tuesday.

It’s the latest development in what’s been a tumultuous few years for the 27-year-old.

Fightful also cleared up some confusion regarding Atlas’ contract status with AEW, saying that according to multiple sources, he was on a per-appearance deal that was paused during his recovery from February surgery to repair a torn ACL. In January, AEW had announced him as #AllElite, typically a designation for a full-time contracted talent.

Atlas (Kenny Marquez) was arrested on May 23rd on domestic violence charges after attacking his boyfriend in an incident that began at an Orlando, Florida, bar and continued at a friend’s house. Atlas, who was released by police later that day, will be arraigned in Orange County court on June 28th.

That occured while Atlas was recovering from the aforementioned surgery to repair a torn ACL suffered in his second AEW match: a January 7th Rampage taping against Adam Cole.

Neither AEW, nor Atlas, have made any public statements about the arrest.

In AEW, Atlas was hoping for a resurrection of a once-promising career that saw him get signed by WWE in the fall of 2019. He started in NXT in early-2020 and was released in August 2021, later doing an extensive interview with our Denise Salcedo where he detailed his experiences and said that his mental health was the worst it had been while there.

AEW’s Jake Atlas arrested on domestic violence charge

AEW’s Jake Atlas was arrested in Orlando, Florida on May 23 on a misdemeanor battery (domestic violence) charge.

Atlas, real name Kenny Marquez or Kenny Martinez based on court documents, was arrested in the early hours of Monday, May 23 after an incident that began at an Orlando bar and continued at a friend’s house.

According to a police report, Atlas was drinking with friends at the bar and called his partner and asked him to join him. Atlas’s partner did so, then tried to get Atlas to leave the bar. The report goes on to say that Atlas asked his partner to go with him “to a female friend’s house to engage in sexual activities.” The partner agreed, and a “few friends then relocated” to the friend’s residence, where Atlas continued drinking.

The police report states that Atlas and his domestic partner got into a verbal argument at the friend’s house after Atlas’s partner “showed more attention to the female half” than to Atlas.

The report states that Atlas then “became physically aggressive and charged at” his partner. The report goes on to say that a friend twice stepped between Atlas and his partner, but that after the second time, Atlas scratched his partner’s forearm and tore his shirt.

The police report states that Atlas was given multiple opportunities to leave the scene without further incident, but refused, at which point the police were called.

The arresting officer states in the report that Atlas was given “multiple opportunities to tell his side; however, he was only interested in talking bad about” his partner.

Based on statements that the officer received and the scratch to the left forearm of Atlas’s partner, the officer found probable cause to arrest Atlas on a misdemeanor battery (domestic violence) charge.

Atlas was released from jail later that day, and signed an agreement that he would have no contact with the alleged victim and must stay at least 500 feet away until otherwise allowed by the Ninth Judicial Court in Orange County, Florida.

Atlas will be arraigned on the domestic violence charge on June 28.

Atlas debuted for AEW in December 2021 at a Dark taping after being released by WWE in August 2021. AEW officially announced Atlas’s signing on January 4, 2022.

Atlas wrestled Adam Cole in his second-ever AEW match on the January 7 Rampage episode (taped on January 5), but suffered a knee injury in the bout. He underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in February and has been out of action since.

AEW’s Jake Atlas ‘doing pretty good’ following February ACL surgery

AEW wrestler Jake Atlas says he’s “doing pretty good” following February surgery to repair a torn ACL.

He suffered the injury during a match against Adam Cole during the January 5th post-Dynamite taping of Rampage in Newark, New Jersey — just one day after AEW announced he had signed a deal with the promotion.

Appearing on a Highspots Wrestling Network “Sign It Live” stream, Atlas provided some updates five weeks after going under the knife, saying that he either blew his knee out inward or it caved in, tearing his ACL in the match.

“I didn’t know it that night. I didn’t know until probably a couple days after when I flew home but definitely couldn’t walk. The athletic trainers were taking a look at me and they were kind of hopeful. I was trying to be positive as well, but when the match aired and I saw it for myself, I was like, ‘Okay, this is something that may be a little bit off’ and then got the MRI done and unfortunately, it was a torn ACL.

He said the recovery time is estimated at nine months but that he’s going to try his best to “make a miracle happen” and come back earlier.

AEW’s Jake Atlas undergoes surgery for torn ACL

Though initial indications were that he had avoided serious injury, Jake Atlas has undergone surgery for a torn ACL.

Atlas suffered the knee injury while facing Adam Cole on Rampage at the beginning of January. It was Atlas’ second-ever match for AEW and his first since it was officially confirmed that he had signed with the promotion.

Atlas initially tweeted that his knee was going to be “just fine” after the injury. But he posted an update on Wednesday announcing that the injury was a torn ACL. Atlas noted that AEW has been extremely supportive, and he isn’t going anywhere. He underwent surgery yesterday and plans on getting straight to working on rehab so that he can return to the ring as soon as possible.

hi everyone! quick update 🙂

My injury from my match with Adam Cole is, unfortunately, a torn ACL. I’m in good spirits, though. AEW has been extremely supportive throughout & surgery yesterday was a success. I’m disappointed that this occurred so soon after my return to wrestling & joining AEW, BUT I’m not going anywhere. I’m not quitting. I worked diligently with prehab before surgery & I look forward to getting straight to work on rehab now post-surgery so that I can get back in the ring as soon as possible & do what I do best.

Atlas (real name Kenny Marquez) was released by WWE during a round of NXT roster cuts last August. After announcing in September that he was stepping away from pro wrestling, Atlas made his return at a taping for AEW Dark in December.

Jake Atlas says knee will be ‘just fine’ following AEW Rampage injury

Jake Atlas has provided an update on his knee following an injury that took place on Rampage.

Atlas wrote on Twitter that his knee will be ‘just fine’, saying he was proud of the match.

“I’m so freaking proud of that match,” he wrote. “Thank you @AdamColePro for pushing me to give you ME. My knee will be just fine. Thank you guys for your concern. I won’t be gone long!”

The finish of the match had Atlas springboarding off the ropes, only to get struck by a superkick by Cole. Upon landing, Atlas grabbed his knee and was unable to get into position for Cole’s Panama Sunrise. Cole instead grabbed Atlas’ knee and applied a kneebar for the submission win.

After his release from WWE in August, Atlas competed in a few matches before deciding to take a break from pro wrestling for mental health reasons. He returned in late December in AEW, defeating Serpentico on an episode of AEW Dark. After the match aired this past Tuesday, it was announced that Atlas had signed with the promotion.

Jake Atlas suffers knee injury in AEW Rampage debut, MRI scheduled

New AEW roster member Jake Atlas suffered a knee injury during a match with Adam Cole that was being taped for this Friday’s edition of Rampage.

While there is no update as of now, our Bryan Alvarez said he is scheduled for an MRI and that it’s possible he is ok.

From reports, the injury occurred on an Atlas springboard into a Cole superkick. Atlas clutched his knee and was later unable to take the Panama Sunrise, eventually succumbing to a kneebar instead.

Atlas was officially signed to AEW this week after his debut appearance on Monday’s Dark: Elevation. The former WWE NXT talent had stepped away from pro wrestling for the last few months following a Ring of Honor match to focus on his mental health.

On Wednesday’s Dynamite in Newark, New Jersey, Cole challenged Atlas, saying he would “send him back to Orlando.”

Atlas was not the only AEW wrestler to be injured Wednesday as Rey Fenix broke his arm during the Lucha Brothers’ AEW Tag Team title loss to Jurassic Express.

Adam Cole vs. Jake Atlas set for Friday’s AEW Rampage

Adam Cole vs. Jake Atlas, as well as two other matches, has been announced for Friday’s Rampage.

Atlas will face Cole, Ruby Soho and Riho will face Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter, and Hook will take on Aaron Solo. In a promo tonight on Dynamite, Cole brought up that Atlas had signed with AEW and told Atlas that he would “send him back to Orlando”. Atlas made his debut on AEW television on this week’s Dark, defeating Serpentico. It was announced shortly after the match aired that Atlas had signed with AEW.

After losing the TBS Championship tournament finals to Jade Cargill, Ruby Soho was about to do a promo when Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter, and Rebel showed up. Baker told Soho she couldn’t get the job done again. Soho mentioned Baker has never beaten Riho, who Baker will face at Battle of the Belts this weekend. The two ended up in a brawl.

QT Marshall and Aaron Solo on Dynamite cut promos on Hook, with Solo daring Hook to stretch him.

Already announced for Rampage is a six-man tag team match, with Daniel Garcia and 2.0 facing Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz in a no DQ, no rules, no holds barred match.

Jake Atlas signs full-time contract with AEW

On the day after his AEW debut match aired, Tony Khan announced that Jake Atlas has signed a deal with the promotion, saying he is now #AllElite.

Khan also said Atlas will be in Newark, New Jersey, for Wednesday’s Dynamite TBS debut, later saying in an interview that he will wrestle on Friday’s Rampage with his opponent revealed Wednesday. He defeated Serpentico on Monday’s Dark: Elevation in his debut.

Atlas replied to the tweet, thanking Khan and AEW and saying, “If only everyone knew every detail leading up to this. This means everything to me. Cliché but I REALLY have a lot to prove now. This year, whether you love me or hate me, you’re going to know me. It is what it is. Superstar is back.”

Atlas signed with WWE in the fall of 2019 and started with the company in the early part of 2020. He was cut in August 2021.

After a match with Taylor Rust at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor in September 2021, Atlas (Kenny Marquez) said he was stepping away from pro wrestling to focus on his mental health. That followed an extensive interview Atlas did with Denise Salcedo where he detailed his experiences in WWE NXT where his mental health was the worst it had been in two years there.

During the interview, he also detailed his longtime friendship with Jungle Boy and that he hoped to work with him again.

Jake Atlas debut part of eight-match AEW Dark: Elevation lineup

Jake Atlas makes AEW debut at Dark tapings

Photo: JJ WilliamsWON

Jake Atlas made his AEW debut at tonight’s Dark tapings in Jacksonville, Florida.

Atlas defeated Serpentico in his first match for the promotion. After the bout, AEW owner/president/GM Tony Khan appeared and shook Atlas’s hand, typically a symbolic gesture indicating a talent has signed with the company, although no official announcement was made to that end.

Atlas, 26, was a west coast indie standout. He appeared on a WWE-themed episode of CBS’s Undercover Boss in 2018 with WWE Chief Branding Officer Stephanie McMahon, then officially signed with WWE in 2019.

Appearing on the NXT and 205 Live brands, Atlas had a run of nearly two years with WWE, then was released from his contract in August 2021.

Atlas announced in September 2021 that he was stepping away from pro wrestling to focus on his mental health and asked for privacy as he stepped away. In an interview with Denise Salcedo, Atlas also announced that he had received counseling and therapy through WWE.

Jake Atlas stepping away from pro wrestling

Former WWE NXT wrestler and indie standout Jake Atlas announced on social media that he is stepping away from pro wrestling.

Atlas returned to action for Ring of Honor at Sunday’s Death Before Dishonor against Taylor Rust and appeared to be injured or off in the match.

Atlas addressed the speculation and his immediate future in a series of tweets Tuesday:

“I’m not concussed or “banged up.” I simply just can’t keep going anymore. Take your mental health seriously, both for yourselves & for each other, because we only have one life to live. Thank you to anyone who did support me for 5 years. I didn’t do much, but what I did was fun.

I’m stepping away from wrestling completely right now so please don’t ask me to do interviews/appearances. I’d like my privacy to be respected. At 26 years old, I’ve got my entire life ahead of me & I’m choosing to explore completely different industries to find my passion again.

Unfortunately, it was unhealthy for me the entire time. I just learned how to hide it really well. I hope that friends & fans I’ve made alike continue to support me no matter what.

I have major anxiety just having done that, please be sensitive. Thank you.”

Atlas (Kenny Marquez) did an extensive interview last week with Denise Salcedo where he went into detail about his experience in WWE NXT and that his mental health was the worst it had ever been the past two years. He discussed getting help through therapy and counseling through WWE.

He was scheduled to work tapings Monday and Tuesday for Ring of Honor, but it’s unknown if he appeared as planned.
