Two pro wrestling families are set to collide at MLW SuperFight later this month.
MLW has announced that Ross & Marshall Von Erich will take on Ricky & Kerry Morton in a tag team match at SuperFight on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ricky & Kerry Morton are making their MLW debuts at SuperFight. It was announced last month that The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) are going on a farewell tour so that Morton can focus more on teaming with his son Kerry and on the behind the scenes of the pro wrestling business.
The Von Erich brothers were supposed to challenge 5150 (Slice Boogie & Danny “Limelight” Rivera) for the MLW Tag Team titles at last month’s Blood & Thunder tapings in Texas, but Ross & Marshall had to pull out of the show due to testing positive for COVID-19.
The updated card for SuperFight is listed below. The event is being taped to air on future episodes of MLW Fusion.
MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Davey Richards
Stairway to Hell match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
Killer Kross returns to MLW
MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH in a four-way match
Ross & Marshall Von Erich vs. Ricky & Kerry Morton

Trios match: Arez, Gino Medina & Mini Abismo Negro vs. Puma King, Octagon Jr., and a mystery partner
A trios match is the latest addition to the lineup for this month’s MLW television tapings.
MLW has announced that Arez, Gino Medina & Mini Abismo Negro will face Puma King, Octagon Jr., and a mystery partner at SuperFight on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Octagon Jr., Puma King and a mystery partner will face Strange Sangre’s Arez, Gino Medina and Mini Abismo Negro in what promises to be an exhilarating nonstop clash of six top luchadores.
Featuring the American debut of Octagon Jr., Cesar [Duran[ promises a spectacular bout unlike anything else on the SuperFight card.
A former AAA World Trios Champion an, member of Los Jinetes del Aire (“The Air Raiders”), Octagon Jr. donned the Octagon mask in 2019 and represents the next generation of one of AAA’s most iconic luchadores.
Pouncing into action alongside Octagon Jr., is the coolest cat around, Puma King. No stranger to MLW, Puma King looks to return to the league with a purrrfect outing at SuperFight.
But who is the mystery third man on this team?
Calling themselves Strange Sangre, Gino Medina, Arez and Mini Abismo Negro laugh at the idea of a mystery man. Claiming Octagon Jr. & Puma King need all of the tricks they can use to have a shot at defeating them, this trio enters Charlotte full of confidence and skepticism about the mystery third person.
Will Strange Sangre vanquish Octagon Jr., Puma King and their mystery man? Find out Saturday night, February 26 in Charlotte at MLW SuperFight!
SuperFight is being headlined by a double main event. Alex Hammerstone will defend his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Davey Richards, while Jacob Fatu is set to take on Mads Krugger in a Stairway to Hell match.
Here’s the updated SuperFight card:
MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Davey Richards
Stairway to Hell match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH in a four-way match
nZo vs. KC Navarro
Alex Shelley vs. Richard Holliday
Trios match: Arez, Gino Medina & Mini Abismo Negro vs. Puma King, Octagon Jr., and a mystery partner
A new match has been added to this month’s MLW television tapings.
Alex Shelley will face Richard Holliday at MLW SuperFight in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center.
Following the main event of last week’s MLW Fusion, Holliday turned against his friend Alex Hammerstone and got together with Alicia Atout. Hammerstone retained his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Pagano after Holliday helped him fight off interference by Azteca henchmen. Atout was going to interview Hammerstone after the match, but she instead low blowed him with the microphone. Holliday then attacked Hammerstone and posed with Hammerstone’s title belt.
Last week’s Fusion went off the air with Holliday and Atout making out.
“The controversial couple [Holliday and Atout] promises to continue shocking the world of MLW and vows to make SuperFight a memorable night as they tease breaking a few taboos and bones as they start a new chapter together as MLW’s power couple,” MLW wrote.
“Standing across the ring will be a true fighting artist in Alex Shelley. Shelley, who debuted in MLW last fall, enters the match with a standout career, collecting championships in virtually every organization he’s competed in from the United States to Japan and all points in-between.”
Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat is set to appear at SuperFight and — in storyline — is the matchmaker for the show. Here’s the updated lineup:
MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Davey Richards
Stairway to Hell match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH in a four-way match
A pro wrestling legend and his son are set to make their MLW debuts later this month.
Ricky & Kerry Morton will debut for MLW at the promotion’s SuperFight tapings on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“The father and son duo are taking advantage of MLW’s open door policy and look to show MLW’s tag team division the iconic southern tag team style the Mortons are masters of,” MLW wrote.
“A highly touted prospect, 20-year old Kerry Morton is a 3rd generation grappler trained by his father. Just like his father in the 1980s, Kerry looks to showcase his talents to the world in Charlotte’s Grady Cole Center.”
Last month, Ricky Morton announced that The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express would be going on a farewell tour. Morton wrote that he wanted to focus more on teaming with Kerry and on the behind the scenes of the wrestling business.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express’ farewell tour began with Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson losing to FTR at a show for Big Time Wrestling in January.
Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat is also returning to Charlotte to appear at the MLW SuperFight tapings. In storyline, Steamboat is the matchmaker for the night.
Here’s the updated SuperFight lineup:
MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Davey Richards
Stairway to Hell match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH in a four-way match
A grudge match is the latest addition to the card for MLW’s SuperFight tapings.
MLW has announced that Jacob Fatu and Mads Krugger will face off in a Stairway to Hell match at SuperFight on Saturday, February 26. It’s being advertised as part of a double main event for the tapings.
The other main event for SuperFight is Alex Hammerstone defending his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Davey Richards.
MLW wrote about the Stairway to Hell stipulation:
2 weapons will hang high above the ring as two monsters of the mat vow to maim each other as CONTRA’s civil war hits Charlotte. Both combatants will wage war as they attempt to climb the ladder and grab either weapon and unleash hell on their adversary.
Each combatant has submitted their weapon of choice for the Stairway to Hell match.
The 7-foot masked mercenary has selected a Baklei war club. The club, a resourceful instrument of pain, was acquired by Krugger during his stint competing in illegal Baklei prize fights in the South African underworld.
A Maliliu Cane has been selected by Jacob Fatu as his weapon, which will be placed above the ring along with Krugger’s prior to the start of their colossal clash. Reportedly, a Maliliu Cane is a spiky, long bamboo stick, which has evolved into a dangerous street weapon wrapped in razor wire.
Contra Unit imploded when Fatu and Krugger got into a brawl after losing last November’s War Chamber match to Hammerstone, Richard Holliday, EJ Nduka, Savio Vega & Jeff Cobb. Krugger blamed Fatu for Contra’s loss.
The SuperFight tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Pro wrestling legend Ricky Steamboat will be appearing at the tapings and — in storyline — is the matchmaker for the show.
Alex Kane will also defend his MLW National Openweight Championship in a fatal four-way match against Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross, and ACH at SuperFight.
An all-time great will be in attendance when MLW comes to Charlotte, North Carolina later this month.
MLW has announced that pro wrestling legend Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat will be appearing at their SuperFight tapings in Charlotte on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center.
“Major League Wrestling today announced Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat is coming to MLW SuperFight hosted by the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte on Saturday February 26, featuring an MLW Fusion TV taping,” MLW wrote.
“The legend returns to the hallowed grounds of the Grady Cole Center where ‘The Dragon’ emerged as a main eventer and forever became a part of Charlotte’s rich wrestling history.”
In storyline, Steamboat will be the matchmaker for the SuperFight tapings. MLW questioned how authority figure Cesar Duran will react to Steamboat’s presence.
Steamboat will also be available for autograph and photo opportunities before the SuperFight show starts.
The SuperFight tapings will be headlined by Alex Hammerstone putting his MLW World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Davey RIchards. Richards was the winner of last year’s MLW Opera Cup tournament.
Davey Richards is getting a shot at the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.
It was announced via Sports Illustrated today that MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone will defend his title against Richards at MLW’s SuperFight tapings on Saturday, February 26. The tapings are being held at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Richards was the winner of MLW’s 2021 Opera Cup tournament. He defeated TJP in the finals.
Hammerstone became MLW World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Jacob Fatu in a title vs. title match at Fightland last October. Hammerstone was MLW National Openweight Champion going into the match but voluntarily relinquished that title after defeating Fatu.
It was announced last month that Hammerstone and Richards have both signed new multi-year deals with MLW.
Richards made his debut for MLW in July 2021. Prior to last year, he hadn’t wrestled since 2017.
“This is a story people will invest in,” Hammerstone told Sports Illustrated. “Davey is a veteran with more experience than almost everyone on our roster. He’s now my new measuring stick, a test that’s providing a new challenge for me as heavyweight champion.
“We’re presenting a new era in MLW. Davey’s rise here has been meteoric, but I’m the top of the mountain. Both of us are at the top of our game, and both of us are going to deliver.”
“An opportunity like this is why I chose to come back [to pro wrestling],” Richards said. “I did not come back to make friends. I came to make history.
“I came back to end things my way — and my way is being the best wrestler in the world. That will be signified by winning the MLW World title.”
Before SuperFight, Hammerstone will defend his title against Pagano in a falls count anywhere match at MLW’s Blood & Thunder tapings in Dallas, Texas this Friday.
MLW will make its Charlotte, North Carolina debut in February 2022.
The company announced today that SuperFight will take place on Saturday, February 26 at the Grady Cole Center in Charlotte. Tickets for the event will go on sale Tuesday, December 28 at 10 a.m. Eastern time.
An MLW website post promises three title matches for SuperFight, as well as debuts and returns. No matches have been officially announced, but here is the talent listed for the event:
MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone
Jacob Fatu
Ross & Marshall Von Erich
Davey Richards
Cesar Duran
nZo
5150 (with Konnan)
Mads Krugger
Calvin Tankman
Richard Holliday
MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane (with Mr. Thomas)
Aramis
Arez
“The Judge” EJ Nduka
KC Navarro
Savio Vega
Myron Reed
Before SuperFight, MLW’s next event is Blood & Thunder, taking place in Texas on Friday, January 21. 5150 will defend the MLW World Tag Team titles on that show against Marshall Von Erich and Ross Von Erich in a Texas tornado match.
LA Park is getting a World Championship shot at MLW’s first-ever pay-per-view.
At tonight’s War Chamber television tapings, it was announced that LA Park will challenge for Jacob Fatu’s World Heavyweight Championship at MLW Saturday Night SuperFight on November 2. The PPV is taking place at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois.
In storyline, LA Park is getting the title shot by cashing in the golden ticket that he earned by winning this year’s Battle Riot match.
Fatu became the MLW World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Tom Lawlor at Kings of Colosseum this July. Fatu then retained against Lawlor at MLW’s Never Say Never TV tapings, with Fatu getting help from his Contra Unit stablemate Josef Samael.
Contra Unit (Fatu, Samael, Simon Gotch & Ikuro Kwon) are facing Lawlor, Ross Von Erich, Marshall Von Erich & Low Ki in a War Chamber match at tonight’s tapings in North Richland Hills, Texas. That match will air on beIN Sports next Saturday (September 14).
MLW’s second live special on beIN Sports takes place tonight from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
There will be two title matches at tonight’s SuperFight event. After winning a title shot in this past July’s Battle Riot match, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor will finally challenge for Low Ki’s MLW World Heavyweight Championship. Low Ki has been champion since he defeated Shane Strickland for the title in July.
The MLW Tag Team Championship will also be on the line as The Hart Foundation challenge for Pentagon Jr. & Fenix’s titles. This match was originally supposed to happen in December before an injury to Fenix delayed it. Teddy Hart instead defeated Pentagon in a singles match at the December tapings in Miami.
Pentagon & Fenix have been MLW Tag Team Champions since June.
Kotto Brazil vs. Ricky Martinez is also set for tonight. The live special begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
**********
Should be pointed out that no Tony Schiavone tonight so it’s Matt Stryker joining Rich Bonini on commentary
Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr and Fenix) vs The NEw Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart and Davey Boy Smith Jr) accomponied by Brian Pillman Jr
Fans were into both teams, chanting BOTH THESE GUYS early. Lucha Brothers took most of the match, which went through a commercial break. Pillman was a non-factor at ringside, at least early.
Lucha Brothers were using double team moves, including a “Mexican Destroyer” (as called by Matt Stryker). Pentagon hit a 2nd oneon the ring apron, the hardest part of the ring, on Teddy Hart and would’ve had a 3 count but Pillman pulled the ref from the ring to break up the count. No disqualification for that one.
The Hart Foundation hit their Doomsday Destroyer on Fenix, after removing the mask of Pentagon, and Teddy Hart got the pin to become a double champion.
WINNER AND NEW MLW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS – The New Hart Foundation of Davey Boy Smith Jr and Teddy Hart
Good match. Slower than most Lucha Brothers matches but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Despite being crowd favorites early, the fans were not that into the Harts winning the belts.
Lawlor was shown warming up backstage and Low Ki cut a promo going over the last 7 months since winning the MLW title and all the guys he’s beaten. He promised to be more violent than ever before and promised to take “the lion’s mane”. Maybe threatening to cut Lawlor’s hair?
Kotto Brazil vs Ricky Martinez (w/Salina De La Renta)
Brazil was out wearing an eye patch and Martinez came to the ring, mocking him, wearing a blindfold over his head and acting like he couldn’t see.
Brazil did a Tope Con Hilo to the outside on Martinez before the bell and was all over him outside the ring. After a couple of minutes of this, he finally rolled Martinez into the ring and hit a top rope dropkick and the match was officially started. De La Renta grabbed Brazil’s foot to turn the tide and Martinez knocked him outside the ring and into the metal barriers outside.
Kotto did a dive to the outside onto Martinez, who caught him and slammed him onto the apron and then picked him up and slammed him on the floor. Martinez took over on the inside of the ring for the next several minutes. Lots of gratioutous shots of De La Renta’s cleavage during the heat spots.
Brazil turned things around by throwing Martinez off the top rope made a nice comeback but the crowd wasn’t that into it so it was kind of flat (unlike De La Renta). Brazil hit a nice frog splash, which got a near pin. Martinez hit an electric chair drop and a wheelchair German suplex but that combination also only got a two count. Light chants for Kotto at this point, with De La Renta screaming SHUT UP at the dozen or so fans who started the chant.
Martinez rolled out of the ring after being hit by a German suplex from Kotto but Brazil went after him and rolled him back in. Martinez pulled the eye patch off of Brazil and then hit him with a knee to the face for a 2. Brazil hit a destroyer (a Haitian Destroyer, called by Bonini) but the ref was distracted by De La Renta. Brazil went after her. Martinez came in for the save. De La Renta maced him and Martinez covered for the win.
WINNER – Ricky Martinez
The announcers were doing the fake cough to sell the mace or pepper spray or whatever it was supposed to be. The crowd was not into this at all and this whole match died a slot death. They tried and it was good action for the most part but the lack of crowd heat really took it down a notch.
Afer a commercial break, a promo aired for the returning Jimmy Havoc, aka “England’s most dangerous man”. Matt Stryker announced the next live special in 4 weeks from Chicago called Intimidation Games.
MJF crashed the victory party of the New Hart Foundation and the former champion challenged Teddy Hart for the middleweight title he never lost. Hart cut a promo on him, mentioning “The Elite” and saying that he should go there because the Harts run this company.
A short promo for “Southern Psycho” Mance Warner aired in place of an MLW control center featuring Tony Schiavone had cut to. Not sure if that was a technical SNAFU or if they just did it to hide the fact that Schiavone isn’t really there. It came off very awkward and Stryker basically just said that anything can happen on live TV.
They announced Superfight II will take place in Los Angeles on February 1st, 2020. Main event is next with less than 10 minutes of television time.
MLW World heavyweight title match – Champion “The Professional” Low Ki (w/Selina De La Renta) vs “Filthy” Tom Lawlor
Lawlor out in his UFC Reebok gear and pulling out his own air during his entrance. Crowd chanting FILTHY. Rich Bonini says that beIN will broadcast this match in it’s entirely (he actually says if it goes into “extra innings”, beIN will continue to air it). Filthy’s left knee and both hands are heavily taped.
NEW CHAMP chants from the crowd and they don’t lock up, brawling to start, which Lawlor gets the best of. Ref gives Low Ki a standing 8 count. (?), which he protests. Lawlor going for an armbar after the match restarts but Low Ki kicks him off. Lawlor hits a suplex and then some ground and pound but Low Ki connects with some kicks and they’re both down. Lawlor with a rear naked choke but Ki runs him into the turnbuckle to break it.
Low Ki grabs a door from under the ring and puts it up against the turnbuckle. Low Ki runs at Lawlor but Lawlor moves and Low Ki punches right through the door, shattering it. Low Ki slaps on a dragon sleeper but Lawlor gets to the ropes and breaks. Lawlor attempts a superplex but Low Ki punches out of it and then hits the Tree of Woe double foot stomp and gets a two.
Low Ki with a dragon sleeper but Lawlor rolls through and slaps on the rear naked choke. Low Ki passes out without tapping.
WINNER AND NEW MLW WORLD CHAMPION – “Filthy” Tom Lawlor
They went right off the air after the finish as we were right up to the top of the hour. Match was good but very rushed as clearly something must have gone long earlier in the night and they had to get the show in under 60 minutes. Crowd reacted well to Lawlor winning the belt and Selina at ringside was throwing a temper tantrum as the show ended.
A Tag Team title match has been confirmed for next month’s MLW television tapings in Philadelphia.
MLW Tag Team Champions Pentagon Jr. & Fenix will defend their titles against two members of The Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart, Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr.) at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 2. The event is being called “MLW Superfight.”
The Hart Foundation were supposed to challenge for Pentagon & Fenix’s titles last month, but Fenix had to miss MLW’s December tapings in Miami due to a groin injury.
MLW announced on Wednesday that Davey Boy Smith Jr. has signed a multi-year deal with them. It was noted that he’ll still be wrestling for NJPW. Teddy Hart defeated Dezmond Xavier, Hijo de LA Park, Kotto Brazil, and Gringo Loco in a ladder match to become MLW Middleweight Champion last month.
As was previously announced, MLW World Heavyweight Champion Low Ki will defend his title against Tom Lawlor at Superfight.
