MLW announced a partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling at the end of August. KUSHIDA wrestling on last night’s show kickstarted talent-sharing between the two companies. KUSHIDA defeated Tony Deppen in his first MLW match at Fury Road.

Salina de la Renta is back in MLW. She was revealed as the mystery guest during Sessions By Saint Laurent on Saturday’s show. The 26-year-old has been gone from the promotion since May 2021 after being written off television in an angle with Dario Cueto. Her Promociones Dorado stable will be starting back up as well.

“Salina de La Renta is the founder of Promociones Dorado, an organization that acts as a pipeline to the stars of Latin America for sports leagues, TV and film in the United States and abroad,” reads an MLW press release.

“In 2021, Salina brokered a deal with Cesar Duran. One which costs her dearly. For the past 2 years her whereabouts have been uncertain, but many believe “El Jefe” had something to do with it… until he himself was ruthlessly removed from power by an unknown assailant. Was it Salina? Only time will tell.”

A title change kicked off MLW Fury Road 2023 as well. Rickey Shane Page is the new MLW National Openweight Champion after defeating Jacob Fatu for the belt. RSP becomes the sixth wrestler to win the title since its inception in 2019. Fatu’s reign comes to an end after two successful defenses and 150 days spent with the title.

Also on the show, Matt Cardona won his promotional debut against Mance Warner. B3CCA has earned a shot at Delmi Exo’s World Featherweight Championship after she defeated Maki Itoh. In Saturday’s main event, the Bomaye Fight Club’s Alex Kane retained his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Willie Mack.

Announced during this week’s MLW Fusion episode, the promotion revealed that the partnership between the two companies will kick off at the Sunday, September 3 Fury Road event, airing live on FITE+.

The agreement between the two promotions appears to involve talent trading, as NJPW’s KUSHIDA was announced for Fury Road, where he will take on Tony Deppen.

Further details regarding the partnership between the two companies have yet to be revealed.

Matt Cardona to make MLW debut in Kiss My Foot match

Matt Cardona’s MLW debut will be in a Kiss My Foot match.

It was announced today that the former Zack Ryder will face Mance Warner in a Kiss My Foot match at MLW Fury Road on Sunday, September 3. The match will also have a no holds barred stipulation. The loser of the match must kiss the winner’s foot.

MLW revealed last month that Cardona would be debuting for the promotion at Fury Road. Cardona and Kevin Blackwood were the first two wrestlers to be selected in the 2023 MLW Open Draft.

The announcement of the match comes after Warner accepted an open challenge to face Cardona. Mister Saint Laurent, who is aligned with Cardona, was recently attacked by Warner and Microman on MLW Fusion. Saint Laurent then challenged any member of the Second Gear Crew to face Cardona at Fury Road.

Fury Road is taking place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia and will air live on Fite+. Here’s the updated card for the show:

MLW Fury Road (Sunday, September 3) —

  • Kiss My Foot match: Matt Cardona vs. Mance Warner
  • Maki Itoh vs. B3CCA (winner becomes number one contender to MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion Delmi Exo)
  • Kevin Blackwood makes his MLW debut

Maki Itoh to make MLW debut at Fury Road

Maki Itoh is coming to MLW for the first time ever.

Itoh will make her MLW debut against B3CCA at Fury Road in Philadelphia on September 3. The winner will be in line for a shot at the MLW Women’s Featherweight Championship, which is held by Delmi Exo.

While Itoh is a failed pop idol, B3CCA’s character is that she sings badly but claims to be an “international pop star.”

Itoh competes for Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling in Japan and has become a popular act on indies in the United States. She’s also made several appearances for AEW over the past two years.

Itoh was in action for Defy Wrestling in Seattle this past weekend. Vert Vixon defeated Itoh to retain the Defy Women’s Championship.

MLW Fury Road (Sunday, September 3) —

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Willie Mack
  • Matt Cardona makes his MLW debut
  • Maki Itoh vs. B3CCA (winner becomes number one contender to MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion Delmi Exo)
  • Kevin Blackwood makes his MLW debut

World title match set for MLW Fury Road

New MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Kane is set to make his first title defense.

MLW has announced that Kane will defend his World title against Willie Mack at Fury Road on Sunday, September 3. The show is taking place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia and will air live on Fite+.

At MLW Never Say Never earlier this month, Kane defeated Alex Hammerstone to become the new MLW World Heavyweight Champion. Hammerstone had held the title for nearly two years before dropping it to Kane.

After defeating Hammerstone, Kane tweeted out a list of goals he wants to accomplish as MLW World Heavyweight Champion:

Kane is part of the Bomaye Fight Club in MLW. At Never Say Never, boxing promoter Don King was revealed as the faction’s mystery financial backer.

The most recent episode of MLW Fusion saw Willie Mack defeat John Hennigan and Lio Rush in a triple threat match to become the number one contender to Kane’s title.

MLW changes August TV taping to house show

MLW has experienced another change to their 2022 schedule as their Fury Road event in El Paso, Texas, is now a house show instead of a TV taping.

PWInsider first reported the news Friday.

In an email to talent that PWInsider obtained, Jared St. Laurent wanted to inform wrestlers who had planned on being at the Saturday, August 27th show so they could attempt to get bookings elsewhere.

The reason given for the change, according to St. Laurent, was that the lucha promotion they were doing the show in tandem with wasn’t going to bring in as many talents as they originally promised.

As of now, MLW Champion Alex Hammerstone, Jacob Fatu, Mads Krugger, Microman, and the Samoan SWAT Team are listed as appearing.

St. Laurent also informed any unbooked talents that they would get half of their appearance pay “as a token of our appreciation as I know it’s been very frustrating having the schedule change this summer while we continue to finalize the new TV deal.”

It’s the second schedule change MLW has made in recent months as they canceled a July Chicago event due to the aforementioned tease of something happening with a new TV deal. The outlet(s) and financial significance of said deal is still unknown.

MLW is next scheduled for September 18th in Norcross, Georgia, for the Super Series TV taping with AAA. They are set to begin a new season of MLW Fusion next month as well which will most likely begin with the footage from their late-June Battle Riot IV taping in New York City.

Mance Warner announced for MLW Fury Road

Mance Warner has been announced for MLW Fury Road.

The event takes place on August 27 in El Paso, Texas. Matches on the show will be filmed for future episodes of MLW Fusion.

Warner returned to the promotion for the first time since March 2020 at Battle Riot last week. He first debuted for MLW in February of 2019.

“A tough as nails brawler, Ol’ Mancer fights with no remorse. Violent, unrelenting and unpredictable in and away from the ring, Mance Warner is one of the most unorthodox southern wrestlers in the sport today,” an MLW.com report reads.

Warner revealed in an interview with Wrestling Inc. in December of 2020 that he had requested his release from MLW. His request was not granted until last October. The following month, MLW announced a new “open door policy” for free agents, stating that their shows would now consist of both freelance wrestlers and those under contract to MLW.

MLW to make El Paso, Texas, debut in August with Fury Road

After canceling a planned Chicago event earlier this month, MLW has put their next date on the 2022 calendar.

On Tuesday, the organization announced they will make their El Paso, Texas, debut with Fury Road on Saturday, August 27th for a Fusion TV taping.

The event will take place at a local high school and will be presented by a local lucha-focused indie promotion.

While talent wasn’t announced, a local poster shows MLW World Champion Alex Hammerstone, Jacob Fatu, Davey Richards, Myron Reed, Aramis, Microman, Daga, Chik Tormenta, Villano III Jr., and more as appearing.

AEW ran at New York City’s Melrose Ballroom last week for their Battle Riot IV taping. Those episodes will start airing after their current run of shows taped at Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena concludes.

The aforementioned Chicago cancelation for July 16th was due to “taping schedule changes” due to some possible developments in their TV deal:

“The arena and live event division is revamping the 2022 schedule. Expect some change-ups in the calendar… and surprises on the horizon as business is about to pick up on the television end of the league’s operations.”

MLW Fury Road live results: National title tournament finals

MLW’s first National Openweight Champion will be crowned on tonight’s Fury Road live special from the Waukesha County Expo Center in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Alexander Hammerstone and Brian Pillman are facing off to determine the inaugural National Openweight Champion. This is the final match in a four-man tournament. Hammerstone defeated Gringo Loco to get to the finals, while Pillman defeated Rich Swann.

There will also be another title match on tonight’s live special, with MLW Middleweight Champion Teddy Hart defending against Jimmy Havoc. Hart has been Middleweight Champion since winning the title in a ladder match in December 2018.

Hart is the second Middleweight Champion in MLW history, with the title having been vacated by MJF due to injury prior to Hart winning it. Hart & Davey Boy Smith Jr. also hold the MLW Tag Team titles.

Gringo Loco vs. Myron Reed rounds out the lineup for tonight’s one-hour special. It will begin on beIN Sports at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Gringo Loco beat Myron Reed

Fast paced match with Reed doing various forms of the Cutter, mostly off the ropes. Reed had a near fall while grabbing the ropes and the ref broke it up. While arguing with the ref, Reed was distracted which allowed Loco to hit a Tombstone piledriver for the win.

Reed beat down Loco after the match

Selena dela Renta announced that she will the executive producer of the MLW show on June 15th.

National Openweight tournament finals – Alexander Hammerstone beat Brian Pillman Jr to become the first champion

People used to always say that Hammerstone looks like Triple H. He looks way more like Chris Jericho with his shorter hair. He’s also supposed to be 6 ft 3 but there’s no way he’s more than 5’11”.

Pillman took it to Hammerstone to start. Crowd solidly behind Pillman. Hammerstone’s Dynasty stablemate Richard Holliday briefly joined the commentary basically to say Pillman’s father would be ashamed of him. Pillman has his hair bleached blond and looks more like Michael Hayes Jr. Hammerstone brutalized Pillman on the outside, slamming him into the barricade and onto the ring apron before rolling him back into the ring.

Hammerstone channelled early Hunter Hearst Helmsley, using the high knee repeatedly to control the match inside the ring. Pillman had a brief comeback after Hammerstone argued with the ref, hitting a superkick and a cross body for a 2 count. He missed a top rope splash, which allowed Hammerstone to hit his finisher, The Nightmare, to get the win and the title.

Hammerstone cut an in-ring promo after the match and lambasted Pillman for his partying lifestyle and living off his Dad’s name. He said he worked hard and earned the title.

Contra attacked Filthy Tom in the parking lot and kidnapped him. They showed a taped vignette with Tom bound and gagged. They then gave him a hair cut and said they could take anything at any time.

Cornette and Bonini explained that Contra Unit not only kidnapped Tom but also took over the production truck and that a couple of those individuals quit as a result and they apologized for what we’d seen and said it would never air again.

Main event for the MLW Middleweight title – Champion Teddy Hart retained his title with a win over Jimmy Havoc

Both these guys were at least weekend’s Double or Nothing show. Havoc was a featured performer in the Battle Royal and later in the show. Hart was wandering through the crowd, posing for pictures with fans, seemingly there for his uncle Bret’s appearance. When we last saw Havoc on an MLW live special, he had a sick match with Tom Lawlor where he stapled Lawlor’s forehead, opening a huge gash, before getting pinned by the World champ.

Hart came out with both his middleweight and tag team title but without stablemates Pillman Jr and Davey Boy Smith Jr. Both guys brought a chair into the ring with them, previewing the violence that’s likely to come in this title match.

Hart took the early advantage with punches and then hit a springboard moonsault for the first two count. Hart worked over Havoc’s arm in a submission attempt as we went to commercial with 6 minutes left in the broadcast window.

Back from commercial and Hart is still in control. Havoc has literally not had any offence thus far. Cornette says they will be commercial free for the rest of the broadcast and will go past the top of the hour if necessary. Hart hit a lungblower and then a backbreaker.

Apparently, Lawlor escaped his captivity and made his way to the ticket window, trying to get into the building. Cornette said they are attempting to get him to the hospital.

Havoc reversed a pildriver attempt and then slammed Hart into a chair that was on the apron. Hart was busted open from that and Havoc hit him in the head with a chair as his head was against the ringpost. Havoc then used an 8×10 photo to cut Hart’s hand and mouth before slamming him into a guardrail. Back in the ring, Havoc hit Hart in the head with a chair again and got a two count.

Hart got the advantage by slamming Havoc into a chair that was wedged into the turnbuckles. Havoc then secured a sharpshooter, which the crowd booed heavily. Hart bleeding like crazy from his forehead as he tries to fight it off and he made it to the ropes for a break. Hart threw a chair into Havoc but Havoc hit a Canadian Destroyer. Havoc missed the Acid Rainmaker and then hit a Destroyer of his own.

Hart then hit a Hammerlock DDT onto a chair for the pin to retain the belt.

The Dynasty attacked Hart after the match but the Hart Foundation was out for the save. They announced that MJF will face Davey Boy Smith Jr on next week’s MLW show.

Austin Aries vs. Adam Brooks set for MLW Fury Road

After hyping that he would be coming to the promotion soon, MLW has confirmed Austin Aries for their June television tapings.

Aries will be facing Adam Brooks at MLW Fury Road in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Saturday, June 1. Brooks, who is from Australia and has wrestled all over the world, will be making his MLW debut in the match.

Aries has wrestled for MLW once before. He defeated ACH in February 2018.

MLW hyped that Aries and Brooks are both “jockeying for a Middleweight title shot.”

Fury Road will include both a live special and TV tapings. Teddy Hart’s Middleweight title defense against Jimmy Havoc will be airing on the live special, along with the finals of MLW’s National Openweight Championship tournament.

In the National title tournament finals, Alexander Hammerstone will face the winner of the Brian Pillman Jr. vs. Rich Swann match that’s airing on this week’s episode of MLW Fusion.

Tom Lawlor, Ross Von Erich & Marshall Von Erich vs. Contra Unit (Jacob Fatu, Josef Samael & Simon Gotch), Sami Callihan vs. Mance Warner in a falls count anywhere match, and Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs. MJF are also set for June 1.

MLW Fury Road live special to air on beIN Sports

MLW’s show in Waukesha, Wisconsin next month will include both a live special and television tapings.

It was announced last night that MLW’s next live special on beIN Sports will air at 9 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, June 1. The special is called Fury Road and will take place from the Waukesha County Expo Center.

Two title matches are set for the live special. Teddy Hart will defend his Middleweight Championship against Jimmy Havoc, and the finals of MLW’s National Openweight Championship tournament will also air on the special.

Alexander Hammerstone advanced to the finals of the National Openweight title tournament by defeating Gringo Loco. Hammerstone will face the winner of Rich Swan vs. Brian Pillman Jr., which is airing on this week’s episode of MLW Fusion.

The June 1 tapings will also feature Tom Lawlor, Ross Von Erich & Marshall Von Erich vs. Contra Unit (Jacob Fatu, Josef Samael & Simon Gotch), Sami Callihan vs. Mance Warner in a falls count anywhere match, Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs. MJF, and the MLW debut of Adam Brooks.

PCO vs. LA Park set for MLW Fury Road

A big main event has been signed for MLW’s television tapings in October.

Pierre Carl Ouellet, better known as PCO, will take on LA Park at the television tapings, which are being called MLW Fury Road. This replaces a match that was originally signed for the show, which was Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix teaming up to take on LA Park and El Hijo de LA Park. There wasn’t a reason given why the match was changed other than it was circumstances beyond their control.

This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that there is interest within WWE to bring both Pentagon and Fenix in. However, they still have three seasons left on their Lucha Underground contracts, as well as indie dates for 2019, so it is unlikely they will be brought in anytime soon.

Also signed to appear on the card include MLW champion Low Ki, Sami Callihan and Shane Strickland, who was a guest on today’s Wrestling Observer Live.

Tickets are already on sale for the October 4 event. It will take place at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, New York.
