Paul Walter Hauser issues MMA cage match challenge to Tom Lawlor at MLW Blood & Thunder

Paul Walter Hauser and Tom Lawlor are going to meet inside a steel cage.

After Lawlor defeated Jake Crist in the Opera Cup opening round at MLW Blood and Thunder, the actor-turned-wrestler appeared via video. He challenged Lawlor to a no holds barred MMA cage match where Lawlor’s manager, Mister Saint Laurent, would be barred from ringside. Lawlor said it was on.

At MLW’s Battle Riot event, Hauser eliminated Lawlor from the battle royal, which was ultimately won by Matt Riddle. Later in the month at MLW’s anniversary show, Hauser laid out Saint Laurent following a series of insults, leading to Lawlor attacking Hauser with a steel chair.

The Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning actor made his debut in professional wrestling earlier last fall, defeating Matthew Palmer at a Pro Wrestling Revolver event. He defeated Sami Callihan in a Philadelphia Street Fight at the WrestleCon SuperShow during WrestleMania weekend, and most recently went to a no content with Danhausen.

Both women are entering the company’s women’s featherweight division that currently has Taya Valkyrie as the champion.

The 18-year-old Starkz is coming off her AEW debut as she took on Britt Baker and Red Velvet during last Saturday’s Dark tapings at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. She also recently had her first tour of Japan and has been busy on the indies with well over 100 matches this calendar year.

Jacob Fatu vs. Ben-K announced for MLW Blood & Thunder

Former MLW Champion Jacob Fatu has a fresh opponent for MLW’s next event as he takes on Ben-K for the first time ever at January’s Blood & Thunder.

The TV taping for Fusion will take place on Saturday, January 7th at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

The debuting Ben-K will be representing Dragon Gate as part of the partnership between the two companies. He has wrestled once in the U.S. before, losing to Bryan Keith at a West Coast Pro Wrestling event in October.

Fatu won this year’s Battle Riot IV which aired for the first time this month as MLW Fusion returned with new episodes. He is currently feuding with Real 1, (the former nZo) in storyline and competed against Lio Rush at October’s Fightland taping.

The show is headlined by current MLW Champion Alex Hammerstone defending against Dragon Gate’s Yamato and will also feature current Middleweight title holder Shun Skywalker. He won the title in a match that has yet to air.

  • Myron Reed defeated Bandido, Matt Cross and Tajiri (ch) in a four-way to win the MLW Middleweight title. Bandido was a surprise announcement.

It also said MLW plans to bring in some Mid-Atlantic legends for their February 26th event in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Title change, surprise debut part of MLW Blood & Thunder TV taping

The following includes spoilers for future editions of MLW Fusion: Alpha.

While full results and details from Friday’s MLW Blood & Thunder TV taping in Dallas, Texas, have been tough to come by, two headlines have emerged as a new champion was crowned and a former Ring of Honor World Champion made his debut — both in the same match.

In a three-way for the company’s Middleweight title, Myron Reed regained the belt by defeating incumbent champion Tajiri and the debuting Bandido who was a mystery opponent.

It’s unknown when the match will air, but action from Friday’s tapings will begin after the current short run of MLW Azteca episodes air.

The win gives Reed his third run with the gold and ends the 51-year-old’s reign that began last October with a win in a four-way at Fightland. He defended the title just one time, that being in an All-Japan ring. He was scheduled to defend against Jody Fleisch at a February England event.

Bandido will return to ROH for their April Supercard of Honor show to face reigning champion Jonathan Gresham to determine who the true champion is. They were set to clash at December’s Final Battle before Bandido got COVID-19 and was stripped of the title.

Von Erichs out of MLW Tag Team title match at Blood & Thunder

Due to Marshall and Ross Von Erich both testing positive for COVID-19, the brothers are out of Saturday’s MLW Tag Team title match at the Blood & Thunder TV taping in Dallas, Texas.

They revealed the news on Twitter Wednesday night:

The former champions were set to take on current titleholders 5150. It’s unknown at this time if there will still be a title match on the card or not.

Due to the family’s history in Texas, MLW had played up the Von Erichs returning to Dallas for a title match in the promotion for the show.

Here’s the current card for Saturday’s event that will be filmed for future editions of Fusion: Alpha.

  • MLW World Champion Alexander Hammerstone vs. Pagano title match
  • MLW Middleweight Champion Tajiri vs. Myron Reed vs. TBA title match
  • MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane vs. Calvin Tankman title match
  • Rok-C vs. Miranda Gordy
  • Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
  • KC Navarro vs. Ho Ho Lun
  • ACH vs. Davey Richards
  • Matt Cross vs. TJP
  • EJ Nduka open challenge
  • Arez, Gino Medina and Mini Abismo Negro vs. Aramis, El Dragon and TBA
  • King Muertes, Richard Holliday, Savio Vega, The Saito Brothers in action

Openweight title match added to MLW Blood & Thunder tapings

A new title match is set for MLW’s first television tapings of 2022.

National Openweight Champion Alex Kane will put his title on the line against Calvin Tankman at MLW’s Blood & Thunder tapings in Dallas on Friday, January 21. The tapings are being held at Gilley’s Dallas.

This will be Kane’s first title defense since becoming MLW National Openweight Champion. He won the championship by defeating Alex Shelley, Myron Reed, Zenshi, and ACH in a five-way ladder match at November’s War Chamber tapings.

The National Openweight Championship was vacant going into that ladder match. Alex Hammerstone voluntarily relinquished the title after becoming MLW World Heavyweight Champion. He defeated Jacob Fatu in a title vs. title match at Fightland last October.

The feud between Kane and Tankman began when Tankman refused to join up with Kane and King Mo. Kane was an alternate in the 2021 MLW Opera Cup and tried to take Tankman’s spot by attacking him. When Tankman faced TJP in the semifinals, interference by Kane and his new cornerman Mr. Thomas led to Tankman losing.

Kane announced last month that he was leaving American Top Team and starting the Bomaye Fight Club with Mr. Thomas. There was also an angle last month where Tankman was arrested after attacking Mr. Thomas in the parking lot.

Here’s the updated card for the Blood & Thunder tapings:

  • Texas Tornado match: MLW Tag Team Champions 5150 (Slice Boogie & Danny “Limelight” Rivera) defend against Marshall & Ross Von Erich
  • Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
  • Rok-C vs. Miranda Gordy
  • Davey Richards vs. ACH
  • MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Calvin Tankman

Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger set for MLW Blood & Thunder

A match between former CONTRA Unit teammates has been added to MLW’s Blood & Thunder show in January as former MLW Champion Jacob Fatu will take on Mads Krugger.

Fatu and CONTRA Unit imploded during last year’s War Chamber match loss to Alexander Hammerstone’s team. Fatu and Krugger had a pull-apart brawl after the match that also included other CONTRA team members that saw fans take Fatu’s side.

The Friday, January 21st event in Dallas, Texas, will be a TV taping for MLW Fusion Alpha: episodes of which will air after the new MLW Azteca mini-season that starts this week concludes.

Here’s what’s been announced thus far:

  • Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger
  • MLW Tag Team Champions 5150 vs. Von Erichs in a Texas tornado title match
  • ROH Women’s Champion Rok-C vs. Miranda Gordy in a non-title match
  • Davey Richards vs. ACH
  • Ho Ho Lun, The Saito Brothers, Mini Abismo Negro and others will be in action
