In matches from last week’s AEW visit to Arena Mexico, Ring of Honor will go to battle with CMLL in tonight’s Global Wars on HonorClub.

The show is headlined by ROH World Champion Bandido defending against Mascara Dorada. Dorada is looking for his first ROH title while Bandido is looking to secure his second title defense.

In a non-title bout, ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty will take on the legendary Blue Panther which was followed by a very big run-in (spoiler).

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena teams with ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet take on Thunder Rosa and Persephone.

In a Proving Ground match, ROH Men’s TV Champion Nick Wayne takes on Titan who needs a win or draw to earn a future title shot.

**********

The Global Wars kick off here and an hour earlier to boot! It’s ROH vs CMLL and with five ROH champions in action, it’s going to be a battle we won’t soon forget!

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena & ROH Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet vs Persephone & Thunder Rosa

Persephone is a rising star in CMLL and has a win over Red Velvet from a couple of weeks ago in Mexico. Her partner is the notorious Thunder Rosa, who’s a former AEW Women’s World Champion. Their opponents are a duo of women who’ve each dominated in ROH. Red Velvet has held the ROH Women’s TV Title for just under a year and the ROH Women’s Forever Champion, Athena, has held her belt for… well, forever.

Athena has stopped bringing the belt with her face pasted on it to the ring and I feel like that’s going to hurt her in the long run. There was a bit of stare down between her and Velvet as the entered and I’m sure they will end up in a feud soon enough.

Athena and Rosa, who have a date at Supercard of Honor in July, kicked things off with the crowd firmly behind Rosa. Velvet hit a blind tag and tried to double team Rosa, but she ducked both Velvet and Athena, sending the latter out of the ring.

Rosa brought in Persephone and they delivered a double dropkick to a sitting Velvet. Athena re-entered the match and started jawing at Persephone, leading to a lock up and a quick pin attempt by each. Athena nailed her with a high knee, but Persephone was barely affected. Athena resorted to shoves and tagged Velvet in.

Isolating Persephone in the corner, Velvet and Athena traded tags and double teams. Velvet got a little too excited and tried a high knee that almost missed Persephone entirely and almost sent Velvet over the top rope.

Rosa got a hot tag from Persephone and took the fight to Athena with a huge dropkick. Rosa tried a couple of pins, but Velvet broke them up. Velvet sent Persephone out and battled Rosa while Athena recovered. Athena hit Rosa with a face breaker and Velvet followed it with a Stir It Up kick, but Persephone broke up the pin.

Persephone got planted by Athena with an O-Face, but that left her open to get hit by Rosa. Rosa grabbed Velvet in the fray and pinned her for the win.

Match Result: Persephone & Thunder Rosa defeat Athena & Red Velvet

Pretty good opener, but with that much talent in the ring it was always gonna be! Loved Athena and Velvet working together and wouldn’t hate to see her join the MiT program.

ROH World Television Title Proving Ground Match: Nick Wayne [c] vs. Titan

Wayne won the ROH Television Title from Komander back in April on the Spring Break Thru edition of AEW Collision. Since then, he’s defended it three times, but never on ROH TV. So, yes, this Proving Ground match is the ROH Tv Champion’s first ROH TV match since winning the title. Titan has been holding the CMLL World Welterweight Championship for a staggering 2027 days as of this writing (quick math: just over five and a half years).

Titan seemed really annoyed by Wayne’s fun-fur accented ring attire, glaring at him as he entered the ring. At least I assume he glared, the mask made it had to see. Wayne was unfazed though as the match kicked off with a lock up. Wayne got the early advantage, setting Titan up in the corner.

Titan tried to turn up the speed, but Wayne was able to dodge and roll away from whatever he threw at him. Eventually, Wayne caught Titan and set him up on the top rope, sending him to the outside in the process. Wayne then showboated in the ring before sending Titan into the barricade outside the ring.

Wayne continued to showboat and throw Titan around outside the ring, seemingly unaware that there was a ten minute time limit on this match, as there is with all Proving Ground matches.

Back in the ring, Wayne ate up more time, slowing the pace of the match to a crawl. He tried to take Titan’s mask, which incensed the crowd. Wayne dropped a leg and went for a pin, but no dice as Titan kicked out at two.

Titan suddenly exploded with a series of, for lack of a better term, ninja kicks followed by a springboard crossbody. Wayne was back on his heels and Titan gave him a reciept from earlier and sent him into the barricade on the outside.

In the ring, Titan set up Wayne up for a piledriver, but Wayne reversed it and hit a springboard Cutter, but it wasn’t enough to finish Titan off. Wayne tried to switch gears and put on a full nelson hold, but Titan punched his way out of it and the two started trading chops.

Wayne tried a standing acid drop, but Titan wasn’t done yet. He grabbed Wayne for a spinning toss and climbed the ring post. Wayne rolled out of the way as the announcement of “one minute remaining” rang out.

Titan picked up the pace, trying to put Wayne down quickly, but that caused a mistake and Wayne almost won with an inside cradle. Titan took a little too long to lock in a grapevine submission and the bell rang, ending the match. Good for Titan, because he gets his title shot as in Proving Ground matches, the tie goes to the challenger.

Match Result: Time limit Draw. Titan earns a shot at the ROH World Television Title.

Boy, I love to hate Nick Wayne. That means he’s pretty good at what he does, heel-wise. Titan is fantastic, but the match was a little uneven pacing wise. I wouldn’t hate it if ROH started putting a clock on the screen during Proving Ground matches, just to up the anxiety.

ROH World Title Match: Bandido (c) vs Mascara Dorada

Bandido has been racking up the title defenses since winning the ROH World Title from Chris Jericho at AEW Dynasty. He’s been doing the one thing that the few ROH World Title holders before him did not do, which is defend the Ring of Honor Title in Ring of Honor. His challenger for the evening is Mascara Dorada, who is a double champion in CMLL, holding 1/3rd of the World Trios Championship as well as the World Historic Welterweight Championship. A couple weeks ago, Dorada saved Bandido from an attack by Blake Christian.

Lots of respect shown off the top as the two locked up. Dorada came out on top, but stepped back to give Bandido another chance. Like I say, respect.

Dorada and Bandido then started putting on a lucha clinic with throws and tosses at an absolutely breakneck speed. Dorada went for a 450 from the top but Bandido dodged and set him up for a 21 Plex. Dorada avoided it though and the crowd was absolutely going nuts.

Bandido sent Dorada to the outside and started a suicide dive, but Dorada leapt back into the ring sending Bandido out on the other side! Dorada then flew over the top rope and knocked the air out of Bandido.

Dorada was in control now, bringing Bandido back into the ring and stunning him against the ropes. Dorada went up for another 450 attempt and landed this one. But it only got a two-count as Bandido kicked out.

Bandido hit a pop-up cutter which flipped Dorada out of the ring. Bandido followed with a Plancha and climbed into the crowd to celebrate.

Once everyone was back in the ring, Bandido caught Dorada on the top turnbuckle and suplexed him into the ring. Dorada fought back though an sent Bandido into the corner. The two traded shots in the corners until Bandido hit a huge flipping splash over the ring post onto Dorada on the outside. He threw Dorada back into the ring and went up for a frog splash.

Dorada wouldn’t go down though and hit a standing hurricanrana on the champion, standing on top of his shoulders! Bandido recovered and was clapping, it was so impressive. The two began trading chops in the middle of the ring with no clear winner in sight.

The fight moved to the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring!) where they traded superkicks. A double dropkick caused them to collide and land on the outside. Both beat the count back into the ring with Dorada pounding the mat in frustration.

The began fighting up the entrance ramp, trading hip tosses. Dorada climbed up the entrance staircase (allegedly 10 feet up) and hit a crossbody on Bandido, crushing him into the ramp. He threw Bandido back in the ring, then ran the full length of the entrance ramp to deliver a flipping leg for a two count.

Dorada’s insane core strength came into play as he did situps in Bandido’s arms to avoid a three-count. Three times. Bandido tried a driver, but again, Dorada wouldn’t go down. Bandido sent him to the corner and they climbed the ropes. Dorada did a standing superrana OFF THE TOP RINGPOST sent Bandido flying. He hit 450 for good measure, but Bandido kicked out at two.

Bandido caught Dorada off the rope and and hit an X-Knee. That set him up for the 21 Plex, but Dorada kicked out! The crowd was insane!

Bandido went for a splash in the corner, but Dorada blocked it. They climbed to the top rope and Bandido hit a moonsault slam setting Dorada up for a second 21 Plex. This one got it and Dorada was pinned, ending an excellent, excellent match!

Match Result: Bandido defeats Mascara Dorada

Wow! That was REALLY fun!! This match not being the main event is kind of mind blowing to me, but perhaps that’s for good reason. Either way, what a banger! With the ROH Title Match for Supercard of Honor not set yet, I wouldn’t be upset if they revisited this matchup.

-Next, as if they heard what I was thinking, they answered that question by issuing a challenge to Bandido for the ROH Title at Supercard of Honor, from none other than Konosuke Takeshita! I’ll take that!

-It was also announced that Top Flight and the Infantry would duke it out next week for the opportunity to to take on the ROH World Tag Champions at Supercard of Honor!

Non-Title Match: ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty (w/Carlie Bravo, Shane Taylor & Shawn Dean) vs Blue Panther

Before the match a very babyface promo from Moriarty aired, in which he talked about what a dream it is to compete in Arena Mexico. The belt is not on the line in this match, but ROH Pure Champion Moriarty brought backup anyway. Shane Taylor Promotions was at ringside as Moriarty took on the legendary Blue Panther who steps into the ring at 64 years young. Panther began wrestling in 1978. That’s two years before even this old-ass reporter was born!

Moriarty showed respect off the top and shared a code of honor with Panther while wearing his Tiga Style mask. He took it off when the bell rang though and the two locked up. Panther wrenched on Moriarty’s neck via headlock until Moriarty reversed it into a wristlock.

The two stomped around the ring as Panther wrenched Moriarty’s arm. He moved into a full nelson hold, but Moriarty reversed it into an abdominal stretch. Panther powered out of it and the two created space, circling each other. A smiling Moriarty seemed to be having a blast trading holds with the lucha legend.

Moriarty delivered a few uppercuts in the corner and Panther responded with some hard chops while Shane Taylor shouted on the outside. Moriarty went for a splash in the corner and Panther dodged, throwing a series of elbows as they ran the ropes. Moriarty sent Panther to the outside and hit two suicidas while the Infantry trash talked.

Panther climbed back into the ring and up to the top rope. Moriarty met him there and delivered a superplex to a 64 year old man. Somehow, Panther kicked out of the pin attempt. From there, Moriarty tried a Border City Stretch, but Panther wouldn’t give up, trying desperately to get to the ropes. Eventually he did and Moriarty broke the hold.

The chop trading began with Panther coming out on top with a lariat out of nowhere, followed by a clothesline that sent Moriarty out of the ring. Panther ran up the entrance ramp and delivered a leaping crossbody to Moriarty on the outside.

Panther tossed Moriarty back into the ring and sent him to the corner for a flipping crossbody into a shoestring armbar, causing Moriarty to tap out! Panther wins clean!

Match Result: Blue Panther defeats Lee Moriarty

After the match, the Infantry and Shane Taylor started a beatdown on Panther. Taylor delivered a huge splash, and then a second-rope– wait, what’s that music? It’s BRIAN DANIELSON!!!! He sent Hologram, Mascara Dorada and… a friend (?), down to the ring to clean house before delivering a high knee to Taylor himself!! The crowd chanted YES! and so did I, much to my attempted-napping wife’s chagrin!

After the ring cleared, Danielson grabbed a mic and thanked the crowd and telling them that they are loved by AEW and ROH.

What to say about that?!? other than AMAZING!

Our live coverage will begin shortly.

**********

Persephone vs. ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet in a non-title match

(This wasn’t the smoothest opener, but the crowd got behind Persephone as she scored a win over the ROH Women’s TV Champion. This could be setting up a rematch for Supercard of Honor in Texas, but I couldn’t be sure about anything with ROH these days.)

It’s a Tuesday, but it feels like a Thursday as the Ring of Honor Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet kicks off the show against CMLL’s Persephone. Velvet is giving up a good bit of size to Persephone, but Persephone chose to start the match with mat work and hair pulling that got the referee’s attention. Velvet came back with a big headscissors, but Persephone got her by the waist and tossed her down. Velvet came back with a leg lariat and set Persephone up for the ten punches, but Persephone slipped under and shoved Velvet’s legs out from under her to send her crumbling to the mat. Persephone held control until Velvet hit a drop toe hold that sent Persephone into the ropes. Persephone bailed to the outside, but Velvet followed her to the floor with a big dive.

Velvet hit a wheelbarrow facebuster for a nearfall. Persephone came back with a big powerslam for a nearfall. Velvet kicked Persephone’s knee out and hit a spin kick for a nearfall. Velvet choked Persephone out in the corner before taunting the fans, so I believe she’s the heel. I know she’s a heel on ROH TV, but I’d bet about 95% of Arena Mexico wouldn’t know. Persephone hit a shotgun dropkick, then locked Velvet up in a spider flash pin for a nearfall. Persephone went for a Splash Mountain, but Velvet rolled through for a nearfall. Velvet went for another headscissors, but Persephone caught her with a powerbomb to get the win.

Match Result: Persephone defeated Red Velvet

CMLL Tag Team Champions Los Hermanos Chavez (Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja) defend against CRU (Action Andretti & Lio Rush)

(This was a fun tag match, with Cru accounting for themselves well here in a fine match for its spot on the card.)

If CMLL were by a carny capitalist like me, they would have tricked people into thinking Rush (of La Faccion Ingobernable) would be on this show instead of Lio Rush. It’s not a lie; a man named Rush is on the show! Niebla Roja of the championship team came out with A LARGE SWORD. I would make an NXT joke, but it feels sacrilegious to bring up NXT star Karmen Petrovic during an Arena Mexico show. The titles are on the line here, as Los Hermanos Chaves have been champions since January 23rd, 2022. This is their 22nd defense of the titles.

Cru played coy to start before Rush got in to start against Roja. We quickly got a standoff before their partners tagged in, with Andretti getting sent flying with a headscissors. Oro went for a dive, but got cut off by Rush, who himself got cut off by Roja. Roja went for a dive, but CRU dodged him and laid him out with a double suplex into the apron, which didn’t look fun. Cru used their speed to double team Oro. Roja got beaten down 2-on-1 but eventually made the tag out to Oro. The champs fired up and hit a pair of dives to the floor for a big pop. Rojo shot up Andretti into a boot from Oro. The champs took Rush up-and-over with a tag team Burning Hammer-style move for a nearfall that Andretti broke up.

Andretti and Rush sent the champs to the apron and knocked them down with handsprings before hitting dives of their own. Rush hit Rush Hour on Oro, and then helped Andretti hit a big neckbreaker for a nearfall that Roja broke up. Oro sent Andretti up with a catapult, then locked both Cru members in tandem submissions. Oro sent Rush into Andretti before hitting a dropkick that caused Andretti to DDT Rush for a big double nearfall. All four men ended up on opposite posts, and Hermanos Chavez hit two big moves off the top rope for the win and a successful defense of the titles.

Match Result: Los Hermanos Chavez defeated CRU to retain the CMLL Tag Team titles

Hologram (w/ Alex Abrahantes) vs. Neon

(This was another stellar singles match for Hologram, with an eternally hot Arena Mexico fired up for both men. Neon is a pretty spectacular flyer in his own right. Awesome stuff here.)

The two tested each other’s speed to start, coming to a quick stalemate. Neon baited Hologram in with a handshake before kicking off another sequence, with Hologram pulling off his evasion in the corner before Neon caught him with a headscissors and followed him to the floor with a big tope con hilo. Hologram came back with a kick on the apron before hitting a high cross. Hologram sidestepped Neon before hitting his missile dive to the floor. Back in the ring, neither man could keep each other down for a pin attempt, leading Neon to drop Hologram with a sliding boot for a nearfall.

Both men had the same idea, sliding into each other before Hologram hit a wacky facebuster for a nearfall. Neon went up-and-over Hologram, eventually getting him in a crucifix for a nearfall. Hologram went up the ropes before Neon dropkicked him down. Neon went for his spectacular double jump moonsault from the ramp to the floor, but Hologram slid in the ring and caught him with a powerbomb for a nearfall. Neon came back, dropping Hologram and hitting a vaulting stomp over the ropes for a nearfall. Hologram ducked a corner charge and baited Neon to the floor, where he hit a Spanish Fly. Hologram hit a 450 splash, but Neon grabbed the ropes. Hologram set up the Portal Bomb, but Neon fought out and hit a hurricanrana off the apron to the floor.

Neon hit the aforementioned spectacular double jump moonsault from the ramp to the floor, then hit a moonsault in the ring for a big nearfall. Neon set Hologram onto the ropes, and after a jostle for positioning, Hologram hit a reverse Spanish Fly for a nearfall. The two traded chops and kicks until they both went down. Neon got up first and set up a step-up moonsault, but Hologram got up and booted Neon in the head on the way down. Hologram hit the Portal Bomb to get the AEW/ROH contingent their first win. The two men shook hands to end things on a positive note.

Match Result: Hologram defeated Neon

Atlantis Jr. vs. Josh Alexander

(This was a solid TV-level match, with the interesting part being Arena Mexico booing their CMLL guy. It wasn’t due to performance, as Atlantis didn’t screw anything up badly. I can’t say for sure as I’m not a regular CMLL viewer, but maybe the Mexican smart crowd aren’t big fans of the guy.)

Atlantis caught Alexander with a quick headscissors to start before vaulting him up into a knee strike. Atlantis sent Alexander to the floor and set up a dive before Alexander cut him off. Alexander took Atlantis down with an arm takeover for a nearfall as he took in the crows. He kept going after Atlantis’ mask and toe tapping him, getting Atlantis to fire up with chops before cutting him down with a kitchen sink knee. Atlantis took Alexander down with a Slingblade and a headscissors to the floor. Atlantis followed Alexander to the floor with a dive. Alexander ducked a top-rope attack and caught a headscissors before dropping Atlantis over his knee.

Alexander went for the C4 Spike, but Atlantis flipped it into a sunset flip for a nearfall. Alexander vaulted Atlantis to the ramp, where Atlantis booted Alexander in the face and hit a running high cross over the ropes for a nearfall. Alexander cut off Atlantis on the top rope and locked on an Ankle Lock on the top rope. Alexander followed with a big German suplex. Alexander had Atlantis in Tombstone position, but Atlantis reversed it into the Bastard Driver for a nearfall. The two men traded forearms, with the crowd interestingly behind Alexander even though he was playing full heel here. Alexander stomped on Atlantis’ ankle in the corner before locking on the Ankle Lock and dragging Atlantis to the center of the ring. Atlantis fought out and hit a powerslam to a mixed reaction.

Both men ended up on the top rope before Atlantis kicked Alexander down and hit a frog splash. Alexander kicked out and immediately locked on the Ankle Lock, but Atlantis bridged back and pinned Alexander for the win as the boo birds were out.

Match Result: Atlantis Jr. defeated Josh Alexander

Averno, Euforia, Gran Guerrero & Ultimo Guerrero vs. The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Hechicero & Rocky Romero)

(I can’t put it into words how fun this match was. This was a big party match, with the tecnicos standing tall over the hated heels as the crowd lost their minds at the action. This wasn’t a Match of the Year contender or anything, but every pro wrestling show on Earth could use a match like this one, especially if it gets the crowd as rowdy as this match did.)

The Callis Family came out separately, with Romero getting the last entrance as he’s one of CMLL’s biggest heels at the moment. Hechicero was meant to team with Averno & Guerrero, but he turned on them to team with his real family. Euforia and Hechicero got into it as the bell rang before the teams had cleared out. The Infantry were in the crowd, raising the roof for Ultimo Guerrero. Chris Hero was beside them, enjoying the show from his seat.

Fletcher & Ultimo kicked things off, with Ultimo almost catching Fletcher in La Tapatilla. Fletcher caught Ultimo with some chops and mocked Ultimo’s raising of the roof, but you can’t mock Ultimo Guerrero in Arena Mexico and get away with it. Ultimo spun Fletcher around and chopped him before raising the roof and tagging in Averno. Romero tagged in for the rudos and got Averno in the Callis corner for his partners to stomp out as the referee was concerned with the tecnicos. Averno flipped the script and got Romero in his corner to get booted as this referee has gotten spun six ways to Sunday. The Callis Family dragged Averno to the floor as the match broke down.

Hechicero and Ultimo were in the ring as brawling happened on the floor. The crowd chanted for Hechicero, trying to get him to see the light. And because Hechicero’s awesome. The heels quadruple-teamed Ultimo before posing to boos. Averno got dragged in, with Hechicero hitting the first hair-mare I’ve seen since like, 2010. Boots in the corner led to a double stomp assisted Bastard Driver for a nearfall that Euforia broke up. He too got his ass kicked, with Romero hitting his Forever clotheslines. Gran Guerrero had enough and went after Hechicero’s mask, but the rudos took him down and teased his mask. Gran tried swinging at all four rudos, but they quickly took him down before Romero dropkicked him to the floor. They went for the same combination on Ultimo, but Averno & Euforia dragged Romero to the floor.

The tecnicos got some offense going and sent all four rudos to the floor as the crowd went crazy for Ultimo. Averno & Euforia double-teamed Romero, then Gran Guerrero launched his massive body onto Fletcher for a nearfall. Gran & Takeshita traded shots before Takeshita hit his home run forearm to take him down. Ultimo took down Takeshita, dropping him with a top rope facebuster. We got to the fireworks factory as we got everyone hitting a big move. Hechicero locked Averno up in a wild spinning pinfall before the tecnicos took him down, leading to Euforia hitting a big splash off the ropes for a nearfall. They did the big “everyone joins the suplex” spot, with the Callis Family winning and hitting big dives afterward. Romero and Gran Guerrero were left in the ring, and Romero took too long to showboat, allowing Gran to hit a big Attitude Adjustment off the top rope for the win.

Match Result: Averno, Euforia, Gran Guerrero & Ultimo Guerrero defeated The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Hechicero & Rocky Romero)

ROH World Champion Bandido defends against Mascara Dorada

(Wow. Wow, wow, wow. I implore you to subscribe to CMLL’s YouTube channel to watch this match as soon as you can, because this was a phenomenal main event. I have been bullish on Bandido’s potential as a real top guy in the AEW universe, and this match has fully reinforced those thoughts as he looked every bit of the top guy that I believe he can be. I don’t want to discount Mascara Dorada either as he did some jaw-dropping offense in this match, including standing on Bandido’s shoulders as Bandido was stood on the top rope before dropping into a hurricanrana. He more than held up his end of this unbelievably great match. A beautiful display of lucha, and an excellent start to CMLL’s international week of events.)

This is Bandido’s second defense of his second reign as ROH World Champion.

These two tested each other’s speed, with Dorada winning the exchange. Bandido tried using some power and got Dorada in position for the 21-Plex, but Dorada fought it off before Bandido pointed his finger guns at him to show that he had Dorada in trouble. Dorada was almost in more trouble as Bandido sent him to the floor, but Dorada came back with a shotgun dropkick and a spiral dive to the champion on the floor. Dorada hit a 450 Splash in the ring for a nearfall. A headscissors sent Bandido to the apron, but Bandido slid in and hit a pop-up cutter. Dorada slid to the floor, but Bandido hit a wild Fosbury Flop to the floor before posing with the crowd.

Bandido followed up with a simply preposterous one-armed superplex for a nearfall. You could see Dorada helping him, but the idea was very cool. They traded lariats in the corner before Dorada caught Bandido with a kick. Dorada tried to outsmart Bandido by sliding to the floor, but Bandido simply dove over the post onto Dorada before hitting a Frog Splash in the ring for a nearfall. Dorada came right back, standing on Bandido’s shoulders before dropping down into a headscissors for a nearfall.

The crowd was fired up as champion and challenger traded chops that turned to slaps. They went to the apron to continue their strike battle, eventually booting each other to the floor. They got back in the ring before Dorada sent Bandido to the ramp and hit a wild spinning headscissors. Dorada sent Bandido flying with a suplex on the ramp before going up the Arena Mexico stairs and hitting a dive off of the 7- or 8-foot-tall video board.

Dorada hit a sick Fosbury Flop splash from the ramp to the ring for a nearfall as this crowd was losing their minds. Bandido rolled through a sunset flip to catch Dorada in a pinning predicament. Dorada sat himself up as Bandido kept headbutting him in the chest, but Bandido herked him over his head and dropped him with a Bastard Driver for a nearfall.

Bandido went for the fall away superplex on the ropes, but Dorada got away. He hopped on top of Bandido’s shoulders as Bandido was on the top rope, then dropped down into a hurricanrana. Dorada followed up with a Shooting Star Press for a nearfall as the crowd chanted Esto Es Lucha. Bandido caught a charging Dorada with an X-Plex before hitting the 21-Plex for a huge nearfall that I completely bought as the finish.

Dorada booted a charging Bandido and went to the top rope, but Bandido cut him off. He got to the top rope and took Dorada down with the fallaway superplex, then hit a second 21-Plex to win the match and retain his title in a spectacular main event. After the match, Dorada shook Bandido’s hand and wrapped the ROH World Title around his waist in a show of respect. Dorada and the referee raised Bandido’s hand as streamers shot off over the ring.

Match Result: ROH World Champion Bandido defeated Mascara Dorada to retain

As of this writing, only two other matches have been announced for Tuesday’s taping which is being done due to the crew heading to Australia for Grand Slam Australia:

  • AEW Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin w/MVP) defend against The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn)
  • MJF vs. Dustin Rhodes

Mistico & other CMLL stars returning to AEW this month

Various CMLL stars are on their way back to AEW Dynamite.

Announced during Saturday’s episode of Collision, Hechicero, Atlantis Jr. and Mascara Dorada will be part of this Wednesday’s Dynamite from Reading, Pennsylvania.

The following Wednesday on the Thanksgiving Eve edition of Dynamite from Chicago, Mistico will return to the AEW ring.

Opponents for the four men were not announced.

It will be Hechicero’s first AEW appearance since this past June’s Forbidden Door when he was defeated by MJF. Atlantis Jr. last appeared in October in a Collision loss to Kyle Fletcher while Dorada’s last appearance was this past February as part of a trios match.

Mistico hasn’t been in AEW since an August Collision tag team match when he teamed up with Hologram.

After a fake graphic made its way to social media last month, AEW officials said they indeed were interested in making a match between Konosuke Takeshita and Dorada but it remains to be seen whether that happens Wednesday.

AEW now interested in making match that was social media hoax

A match that originally was a hoax on social media now has the attention of AEW matchmakers who hope they can pull it off.

An X user posted a graphic Wednesday showing AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita defending against young CMLL star Mascara Dorada for Dynamite that looked real enough that at least one media outlet reported on it as fact. However, it was completely made up.

On the post-Dynamite edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said in speaking with someone from AEW, they are very interested in putting that match together.

“Whoever put out that graphic spurred an idea in people’s heads and, in fact, they love the idea of that match. I don’t know if it’s going to happen anytime soon,” he said.

The 22-year-old Dorada has wrestled twice for AEW this year — once as part of a January eight-man tag team match and then in a February trios match against the Blackpool Combat Club.

Takeshita won the International title at last Saturday’s WrestleDream and has never competed against Dorada or in CMLL. AEW and CMLL talent have worked together frequently this year as their partnership has expanded, including at Forbidden Door and will again at this January’s Wrestle Dynasty in Japan along with NJPW.

Update on CMLL talent in danger of losing US work visas

Several luchadors from CMLL could receive US work visas in the coming weeks.

In February, it was reported that several CMLL stars were not going to be able to work in the United States following a breakdown in communication between CMLL and a Texas-based independent promotion, Full Blown Pro Wrestling, who had been sponsoring their visa applications.

Our own Dave Meltzer provided an update on the situation in yesterday’s Daily Update.

“We are told the situation with several CMLL wrestlers and their visas is sorting itself out, and for some, it could be as early as this coming week to be sorted out,” Meltzer wrote. “The key names this impacts are Soberano Jr., Templario, Blue Panther (who Bryan Danielson wanted to wrestle), Dulce Gardenia, Sagrado, Capitan Suicida, Espiritu Negro, Euforia, Fugaz, Robin, Sangre Imperial, and Los Gemelo Diablos.”

Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez addressed the situation on the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, noting that CMLL stars who had appeared on AEW programming, such as Mistico, Hechicero, Volador Jr, and Mascara Dorada, already have their visas.

“Everyone who has appeared in AEW has nothing to do with this, they already have their visas. What happened was an independent promotion got visas for a lot of the CMLL guys long before AEW was using them,” Meltzer said on the show.

“Rush is back as you saw on Saturday night. He had been having a visa issue as well. Dralistico I’m presuming should be back, although he hasn’t been back yet,” he continued.

CMLL wrestlers, Private Party vs. Top Flight confirmed for AEW Rampage

The debut of several CMLL stars in addition to a tag team rematch are official for this Friday’s edition of AEW Rampage.

Initially announced on Friday’s Rampage and expanded upon during Saturday’s Collision via a video package, Volador Jr, Mistico, Mascara Dorada and Hechicero will be involved but the actual match was not announced.

The bout(s) are a further extension of the CMLL/AEW partnership that began last October when Mistico made his AEW debut in a match against Rocky Romero.

A rematch between Private Party and Top Flight was also confirmed after a backstage confrontation on Friday’s Rampage.

The two teams did battle earlier this month in Private Party’s first match since Marq Quen returned from injury. The manner in which he and Isiah Kassidy won the match didn’t sit right with Dante & Darius Martin, setting up their second meeting.

Here’s the current Rampage lineup that will be taped after Dynamite this Wednesday in New Orleans:

  • Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy) vs. Top Flight (Darius & Dante Martin)
  • Volador Jr, Mistico, Mascara Dorada and Hechicero in action

Mascara Dorada debut part of eight-match AEW Dark: Elevation lineup

Private Party, Nyla Rose, Frankie Kazarian, Zack Clayton, The Butcher & The Blade and Skye Blue are all scheduled for Monday’s show as well.

AEW Dark: Elevation airs beginning at 7 p.m Eastern time on YouTube. The announced lineup for the show is as follows:

GCW Believe Me live results: Joey Janela vs. Mascara Dorada, Briscoes vs. S.A.T.

GCW returns Saturday with Believe Me, the first of two weekend pay-per-views on FITE.tv from Atlantic City, New Jersey.

One of the featured matches is GCW regular Joey Janela vs. Mascara Dorada, the former Gran Metalik in WWE. Dorada had his first match since being released earlier this month in GCW as part of a four-way with Gringo Loco, ASF and Blake Christian. This will be his first singles match since March 2021 on WWE Main Event against Angel Garza.

The Briscoes will return to GCW for the first time since losing their titles to Nick Gage and Matt Tremont at The Wrld on GCW as they face longtime tag team favorites The S.A.T. This will be the Maximos brothers’ first match since last December and only their second in the last 12 years.

Gage has also been advertised for the card as he will address his future. Tremont will be in singles action against Hoodfoot.

Other matches include Nick Wayne vs. Jordan Oliver, Blake Christian vs. Jimmy Lloyd, Ultraviolent Champion Alex Colon vs. Reed Bentley, and more.

**********

The Briscoes (Mark & Jay Briscoe) defeated SAT (Joel & Jose Maximo)

Mutual respect was shown before the match and during the early moments. Mark and Jose started things out by exchanging some grappling and a few arm drags before both tagged out. Jay and Joel then had a similar exchange.

Things picked up when the SAT introduced a door into things and put Mark through it. Jay then went to give Joel a Jay Driller through the door but Joel fought out of it. Mark then got in some redneck kung fu on Joel and then Jay hit Joel with a neckbreaker for a 2 count.

The Briscoes double teamed Jose after Mark put Joel through a table on the outside. Shortly after this, the SAT gained the advantage after pulling what the commentary team referred to as “SAT Twin Magic.” One would roll out and another brother would roll in from the outside with the referee not being aware of who was legal. This allowed them to go on offense and work on Mark for a period.

The Briscoes fought back and Jay hit a big dive to the floor onto both members of the SAT. Jay then discovered the 3rd Maximo brother, Will Maximo had been hiding under the ring and likely was part of the SAT Magic from earlier. Will was put through a door pretty quickly.

One SAT brother clotheslined Mark Briscoe off the top rope, then two brothers gave him a Doomsday Device but instead of a clothesline off the top it was a DDT. Shortly after this, the SAT hit their double top rope Spanish Fly on Mark but Jay popped in and grabbed one brother, gave him a Jay Driller and got the pin.

Mark and Jay then showed the SAT respect after the match and all 4 wrestlers hugged.

Blake Christian defeated Jimmy Lloyd

A very technical start as the commentary teamed played up that Lloyd does have the fundamentals. They also mentioned he is a little banged up heading into this one and it became clear his leg was bothering him early in the match.

Christian started working on Lloyd’s injured leg pretty early on. Lloyd fought back with a back drop and a suplex but Christian went back to focussing on the leg shortly after. He’d hit a springboard 450 onto the leg during this period as well.

Lloyd started to make a comeback after hitting an enziguri. He hit a big clothesline followed by a fireman’s carry into a driver for a 2 count. Christian fought back and power bombed his opponent out of the corner and then locked him in a cloverleaf.

Lloyd then hit a flatliner followed by a package piledriver for a 2 count.  Christian fought back with a meteora and then went right back to working on the leg. A few scattered boos could be heard as Christian continued to focus on his opponent’s injured limb.

Lloyd’s injured leg was a factor in the end of the match, as his leg buckled while looking to slam Christian. Shortly after, Christian hit a DDT and got the pin.

Both competitors showed respect for one another after the match.

Nick Wayne defeated Jordan Oliver

The commentary team played up that these two are friends. It’s been a very respectful show thus far.

They exchanged pinning combinations early. Wayne got the early advantage with a drop kick and head scissors that took Oliver to the outside. He then hit a tope. Oliver then hit a big super kick which led to him going on a sustained period of offense.

Oliver started to focus on Wayne’s ribs during this period. He’d wear him down with an abdominal stretch but Wayne fought out of it with a hip toss before starting to make a comeback. He then hit a penalty kick and standing moonsault combo for a 2 count.

Both men hit clotheslines at the same time, taking each other out. When they got to their feet, Oliver hit a Clout Cutter that took Wayne to the floor. After a back and forth exchange outside the ring, Wayne hit a big dive to the floor on top of Oliver. Back in the ring, Wayne hit a Code Red for a 2 count. He then looked to go for a package piledriver but Oliver fought out of it and then hit an exploder suplex followed by a brainbuster for a 2 count.

Wayne hit a backbreaker into a dragon suplex followed by a fisherman suplex for a 2 count. He then went for a top rope senton but Oliver kicked him in the midsection on his way down.

They exchanged exhausted strikes in the middle of the ring. They went back and forth with headbutts, slaps, forearm strikes, and more. They then exchanged super kicks before Oliver hit a release German suplex. Wayne then hit a poisonrana but Oliver hit a Spanish fly moments after. Oliver then hit the Acid Kick and got a close near fall. Oliver locked Wayne in a Boston Crab but Wayne countered into a pinning combination for a 2 count, Oliver then went for the Boston Crab again but Wayne countered it into a pinning combination again but this time got the 3 count.

This was fantastic.

Wayne offered a handshake after the match, Oliver originally looked like he was going to attack Wayne but eventually relented and congratulated him.

The Second Gear Crew (1 Called Manders, AJ Gray, Effy, & Matthew Justice) defeated ASF, Gringo Loco, Jack Cartwheel & Kamikaze

ASF and Jack Cartwheel attacked with moonsaults before the bell. Loco and Kamikaze then hit dives to the floor. Shortly after, Kamikaze, Cartwheel, Gringo, and ASF all hit top rope diving moves onto AJ Gray and Effy.

The Second Gear Crew finally got some offense in after Manders caught Kamikaze off a dive, Justice then hit Kamikaze with a chair and Manders put him through a door. This led to the Second Gear Crew going on offense for a period.

Later on, Effy hit a bit TKO on Gringo before he was super kicked by a returning Kamikaze. Then Ninja Black appeared (AJ Gray in a mask) and confronted Kamikaze. This got a ‘holy sh*t” chant. We then had a ninja battle between the two. Gray got the advantage and a 2 count off a power bomb.

Shortly after this, Cartwheel did a cartwheel off the ring post and dove onto Justice and Gray on the outside. Justice then destroyed him with a chair before Kamikaze hit him with a tope. ASF then stood on Gringo’s shoulders and springboarded off the ropes and onto his opponents. Effy would hit a double Sack Rider on Kamikaze and Gringo shortly after.

Gringo hit a sit down power bomb from the top rope on Effy for a 2 count. Manders and Gray then gave Cartwheel a spiked tombstone piledriver shortly after. They then held Cartwheel as Justice came off the top rope with a splash and got the pin.

– Emil Jay pointed out a guy who is celebrating his bachelor’s party there and the crowd chanted “You f**ked up” at him. Jay then brought out Nick Gage.

Nick Gage promo

Gage told the fans he’d never lie to them. He talked about having lost brothers over the last year and his body is starting to give up on him. He heard people were saying that he doesn’t have it anymore, that he’s getting older and breaking down. He said he’s got no wife, no kids, but he’s got his gang. Gage said he’s either going to die in this ring or someone’s going to put a bullet in his brain but he’ll always give 110% every time he wrestles.

John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley then came out to confront Gage. It was brought up that Alex Colon is out with injury and wouldn’t be able to face Bentley tonight as scheduled. Murdoch said he didn’t want to wait for tomorrow to face Gage and it looked like the Rejects were going to fight Gage 2-on-1. G-Raver and Orin Veidt then attacked Murdoch and Bentley from behind with light tubes and we had an impromptu match kick off.

The Rejects (John Wayne Murdoch & Reed Bentley) defeated G-Raver & Orin Veidt

All 4 brawled around ringside and hit each other with light tubes. Nick Gage joined the commentary team as Bentley chucked Raver into the 3rd row. Everyone then continued to fight with light tubes as panes of glass were set up in the ring.

The match officially started when all 4 men finally got in the ring. The Rejects isolated Veidt at this point and tossed him through some glass before turning their attention to G-Raver. Raver fought back, however, and hit both of them with light tubes. He then slammed Murdoch through some glass. The heels fought back and broke a pane of glass over Raver’s head. Murdoch then hit him with some more light tubes as the Rejects took firm control over the match.

Veidt tried to fight back and gave Bentley a side slam onto some tubes. Murdoch gave Veidt a flatliner and Canadian destroyer as Bentley hit Raver with more light tubes and suplexed him on his head. Veidt fought back again and and managed to Bentley through a door.

Veidt and Raver then put Murdoch through a pane of glass that had been set up on top of Bentley. The Rejects then regained the offense shortly after, however, and set up a pane of glass onto some chairs in the ring. Murdoch then gave Veidt a Canadian destroyer through the glass and got the pin.

After the match, Murdoch invited Kevin Gill into the ring, seemingly for an interview. When Bentley went to say something on the mic, Murdoch hit Gill from behind with some light tubes. That got a big reaction. Murdoch then called out Alex Colon, who had to be pulled from the card because he was injured. He said something along the lines of “What would Markus Crane think (about him not wrestling)?” and this got a real negative reaction from the crowd.

Colon came out but was held back from hitting the ring. He then cut a promo and said he’s already proven he’s better than Murdoch. Colon then challenged Murdoch to a match at Spring Break.

– A 15-minute intermission took place to clean up the ring.

Billie Starkz defeated Cole Radrick

This was originally scheduled to be Atticus Cogar vs Starkz. There was no mention of why Cogar wasn’t there.

They started off with some back-and-forth grappling. Starz got the first big move with a release German suplex. She then followed that up with a trio of topes. Starkz then missed a senton and Radrick hit her with a forearm to the back of the head. This led to him going on offense for a period. Radrick hit a float over suplex for a 2 count during this period as well.

Starkz looked to be fighting back with a series of forearms but Radrick cut off her momentum with a backbreaker. He then badly missed a springboard moonsault. Starkz tried to fight back with strikes again but then sold her back when she tried to suplex her opponent but couldn’t. She finally was able to give him a German suplex and got a 2 count moments later.

Radrick got back in control and hit a butterfly suplex for a 2 count. He’d then hit a springboard cutter for another near fall. They exchanged strikes back-and-forth shortly after. Eventually, Starkz looked like she was going to hit a Gory bomb but Radrick fought out of it. Starkz then hit him with a suplex in the corner and then a swanton from the top and got the 3 count.

After the match, Starkz wanted a handshake but at first, Radrick walked off like he didn’t want to. Then he came back, gave her a hug and raised her arm.

Mascara Dorada defeated Joey Janela

The King of the Ropes is back! This is his second match with GCW following his departure from WWE.

Janela got the early advantage and hit a tope that caused Dorada to land in the second row. It was noted on commentary that Janela is one of many wrestlers on the card who competed earlier in the day at the JCW show.

Janela got a door from under the ring and set it up on a couple of chairs. It wouldn’t factor into things until later, however. Dorada fought back and hit a springboard dropkick that took Janela to the outside. After hitting a dive to the outside, Dorada then hit a springboard moonsault once the match got back in the ring. Janela then caught Dorada going for a dive and gave him a Death Valley Driver. Moments later, Dorada hit a hurricanrana on Janela who was draped on the top rope.

Dorada hit a springboard arm drag, Janela hit a clothesline, and eventually they were both down. Dorado then went to the top but Janela caught him and gave him an inverted Spanish Fly, a deadlift German suplex followed by a piledriver for a near fall.

The next big move saw Dorada give Janela a hurricanrana from the ring apron through the door that had been set up on the outside. Dorada then went to the top and hit a big elbow drop for a near fall. Janela got the boots up on a moonsault attempt and looked to get back into things but the finish would come moments later. Dorado hit a poisonrana and followed it up with the Dorada Screwdriver for the win.

The two shook hands after the match.

Mascara Dorada is really good and it’s fun to see him in an environment where he can show that again.

– Emil Jay announced shows in in Atlantic City again for April 30th and May 1st.

Hoodfoot defeated Matt Tremont

Tremont got a nice hometown pop. Hoodfoot got some chants from the crowd early as well. Nick Gage then came out and joined the commentary team.

Hoodfoot pulled out a barbed wire baseball bat but Tremont ducked and hit him with some spike shots to the forehead. Tremont then gave him a few shots with the baseball bat.

Hoodfoot came off the ropes with a shoulder tackle but Tremont hit him with the bat shortly after. He then raked the barbed wire over Hoodfoot’s forehead. The match then spilled to the floor where they brawled around ringside. Hoodfoot eventually got the better of a striking exchange but Tremont pulled out the spike and started to rake it over Hoodfoot’s forehead again. He then chucked him across about 4 rows of chairs.

They broke out the light tubes after this and started head butting them into each other. Both guys were really bloodied up at this point. A long period of light tubes being smashed over heads followed after they finally got back in the ring. Hoodfoot got a 2 count after a Saito suplex. He hit another suplex and got another 2 count shortly after.

At this point, Tremont is really bleeding badly. His head and arms are basically covered in blood. He fought back with a light tube shot and a Russian Leg Sweep, though. Hoodfoot then caught him going to the top and gave him a Saito off the second rope.

With his opponent down, Hoodfoot called to the back and two guys brought out a board covered in barbed wire. Hoodfoot went to superplex Tremont onto the board but Tremont fought back. Tremont head butted him multiple times, causing Hoodfoot to fall back and onto the barbed wire board. Tremont followed this up with a splash from the top and got a 2 count. They duelled with light tubes again until Hoodfoot hit another Saito suplex but only got a 1 count. Then Hoodfoot hit another Saito and finally got the pin.

Wow, that’s a big win for Hoodfoot! It seems like GCW likes what they’ve seen in him thus far. This was a bloody, and violent match but also really fun.

After the match, Tremont led the fans in a Hoodfoot chant. Everyone has been so respectful to each other on this show. There’s a lot of sportsmanship in GCW. Tremont put over Hoodfoot in a promo after as well. Hoodfoot thanked Tremont and the fans. He then held the ropes for Tremont to exit the ring as the show came to a close.

Final Thoughts: The Nick Wayne vs Jordan Oliver match was really exciting. It’s easy to see why people are so high on Wayne. Oliver has turned into a fun performer to watch too. Seeing Mascara Dorada as Mascara Dorada again makes you wonder about all the matches he’s going have and places he’s going to wrestle now that he’s back. Hoodfoot got made to seem like a big deal after beating Matt Tremont in his hometown in a bloody main event. He’s not on the show tomorrow but I’m looking forward to seeing what all Hoodfoot does in GCW moving forward.

Mascara Dorada heading to GCW in February

Mascara Dorada is returning to the independent scene.

GCW announced that Dorada will be making appearances for the promotion starting in February. Dates include February 4 in Houston, February 19 in Atlantic City, and February 26 in Los Angeles.

Dorada, known in WWE as Gran Metallik, had asked for his release back in September of last year. It was granted on November 4 as part of WWE roster cuts, with the company citing budget concerns. Signing with the company in 2016, Dorada competed in the company’s cruiserweight division before going to the main roster as part of a team with Lince Dorado and Kalisto known as the Lucha House Party.

Prior to signing with WWE, Metalik had wrestled primarily for CMLL. He also made sporadic appearances in NJPW before signing with them for a full-term, one year contract in 2015. He challenged Kenny Omega for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title at The New Beginning in Osaka that year, but came up short.
