Kyle Fletcher, Marq Quen likely to miss significant time due to injuries

The injury bug has bitten AEW twice over the last week as both Kyle Fletcher and Private Party’s Marq Quen are expected to miss significant time with injuries.

First acknowledged on this past Saturday’s Collision, Fightful Select reported some updates on both Monday.

Fletcher, the reigning TNT Champion, is said to have sustained a meniscus injury in addition to other undisclosed “additional injuries” that are expected to keep him out of action for a while. He appeared to sustain the meniscus injury during his March 28 tag team match that saw he and Mark Davis defeat The Rascalz, but it’s unclear if the other injuries are linked to that.

It remains to be seen whether AEW will keep the title on Fletcher or introduce an interim title as they have in the past.

Quen and Isiah Kassidy just returned to AEW in March after more than a year away, wrestling two tag team matches, the latest coming on the same edition of Collision where Fletcher got hurt. Fightful reported that Quen may have sustained a tear, but it’s unknown to what body part.

Regardless, they stated it’s expect he will miss “some significant time.” It’s also unknown if he sustained his injury during that March 28 match.

On this past Saturday’s Collision, Kassidy alluded to Quen being injured and targeted reigning Continental Champion Jon Moxley, but a match between the two has yet to be announced.

Report: Private Party’s status with AEW

Private Party could reportedly return to AEW television.

Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen have not appeared for the company since losing the AEW World Tag Team titles to Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin on the January 22, 2025 edition of AEW Dynamite.

In June 2025, it was reported that the team’s AEW contracts were expected to be up “very soon,” and that WWE had “preliminary” interest in them.

According to a report from Fightful Select, both members of Private Party remain under contract with AEW, although the expiration dates of their deals are said to not line up exactly. When asking around about the team, Fightful was told, “we could expect to see them in AEW before we would WWE.”

Following their loss of the AEW World Tag Team titles to The Hurt Syndicate, Private Party has wrestled only one match. The team appeared on the House of Glory pay-per-view HOG City of Dreamz at NYC Arena on March 15, 2025.

Trained by The Amazing Red, Private Party debuted in AEW on the promotion’s second-ever event, AEW Fyter Fest, on June 29, 2019. They defeated The Young Bucks to win the AEW World Tag Team titles on the October 30, 2024 Fright Night edition of Dynamite.

Private Party’s AEW contracts expiring soon

Former AEW World Tag Team Champions Private Party may be taking their VIP velvet ropes elsewhere in the immediate future.

First reported by Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the AEW contracts of Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy are “up very soon.” No other details were given like if AEW is interested in keeping them.

Since losing the titles to The Hurt Syndicate in under ten minutes on a late-January 2025 edition of Dynamite, they haven’t been seen or heard from on either AEW or ROH TV. After winning the titles from the Young Bucks on the Fright Night Dynamite last October, the title loss to Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin ended an lackluster first championship run that resulted in just two successful title defenses.

The duo did appear for House of Glory in mid-March, but that’s been their only action since that title loss.

Quen and Kassidy are AEW originals, appearing on the company’s first-ever Fyter Fest, first-ever All Out, first-ever Dark, and the second-ever Dynamite where they upset the Bucks in the inaugural Tag Team title tournament.

If they do depart, they will join other talents whose contracts have or will expire soon like Mariah May, Abadon, Danhausen, Bear Bronson, Leyla Hirsch and Zak Knight.

Marq Quen returns on AEW Dynamite, Private Party reunite

Marq Quen has returned from injury after being sidelined for over a year and reunited Private Party with Isiah Kassidy.

Quen made his comeback on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in a segment following Orange Cassidy’s International title victory over Dante Martin. Quen and Kassidy entered and cut a promo announcing that they have reunited, calling out The Young Bucks, The Hardys, and FTR as potential future targets.

Quen had been sidelined since December  2022 with a shoulder injury. In his absence, Kassidy had been aligned with The Hardys as “Brother Zay.”

Private Party signed with AEW in 2019 and debuted for the company in June of that year at Fyter Fest.

Quen and Kassidy would go on to beat The Young Bucks on Dynamite in the first round of a tournament to crown the inaugural AEW Tag Team Champions, a tournament ultimately won by SCU.

Private Party established themselves on the independent scene, primarily in the northeast, prior to joining AEW.

Hardy & Quen vs. Page & Silver announced for AEW Dynamite

A  regular tag team match will replace the ten-man tag match originally scheduled for Dynamite.

AEW posted a video on social media this afternoon featuring Matt Hardy. He said that he had talked to Tony Khan and pitched the idea of Hangman and himself in the same ring prior to their match at the Revolution pay-per-view event on Sunday, where the loser will give the winner their Q1 2021 earnings. The match will now be Hardy teaming with Marq Quen to take on Hangman Page and John Silver.

The match was originally announced as the Dark Order (5, Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, Alex Reynolds, and Silver) against Hardy, Private Party, and The Hybrid 2.

Also announced for Dynamite is a Chris Jericho and MJF press conference, Max Caster vs. 10 of the Dark Order in a Face of the Revolution ladder match qualifier, Jurassic Express vs. FTR and Tully Blanchard, and Cody Rhodes & Red Velvet vs. Shaquille O’Neal and Jade Cargill.

Chris Jericho entered and joined the commentary team.

FTR defeated The Butcher & The Blade

This was an excellent opener.

Wheeler and Butcher tagged in. Wheeler hit a dropkick. Wheeler feigned a shoulder injury. He used the distraction to roll up Butcher for a two count.

Butcher and Blade cut Wheeler off and isolated him in their corner. Blade used a headlock on the mat. Wheeler used a jawbreaker to set up a tag to Harwood.

Harwood ran wild with a dragon screw on Butcher and a brainbuster on Blade. Wheeler and Harwood hit a tandem draping DDT on Blade.

Harwood hit Blade with a superplex. Wheeler then immediately hit a top rope splash for a near fall.

Blade rolled up Harwood for a two count. Butcher tagged in. Butcher and Blade hit a magic killer uranage.

The finish saw Wheeler and Harwood hit Butcher with a Goodnight Express (renamed Shatter Machine). They followed up with a spike piledriver on Blade for the pin.

Schiavone interviewed FTR in the ring after the match.

Harwood said AEW is the pinnacle of wrestling and they are the pinnacle of tag team wrestling.

The Young Bucks then entered.

Nick Jackson said they were there to congratulate FTR on their great match. Matt Jackson thanked FTR for helping them out two weeks ago.

Matt said that The Bucks have carried tag team wrestling for the last 15 years.

FTR jumped The Bucks from behind. Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian ran in. Kenny Omega and Hangman Page sauntered in. FTR, Omega, Page and The Bucks cleared the ring to end the segment.

Clearly they are teasing a multi-team match. FTR vs. The Bucks is the ultimate destination but they are holding off on that. The post-match was a bit of a cluster.

**********

Dasha Gonzalez was backstage with Natural Nightmares, Brandi Rhodes and Allie.

Dasha said that Natural Nightmares will face Omega and Page for the tag titles next week.

Brandi was upset that Allie was wearing QT’s Nightmare Family jacket. Marshall said that Allie is his girl and part of the family. It’s kind of a disaster that QT has a Nightmare Family jacket and I don’t.

Dustin Rhodes told QT that he needs his head in the game next week. He said Omega and Page are two of the best in the world and as a multi-time tag champ, Dustin knows what it takes to win.

Dustin told QT to get Allie out of his system and focus on their match next week.

**********

Penelope Ford (w/Kip Sabian) & Nyla Rose defeated Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander

Rose and Ford attacked Statlander and Shida before the bell. Statlander fought off a double team and Rose accidentally speared Ford.

Shida and Rose used a series of quick tags and began working over Rose in their corner. Rose cut Statlander off and hit a slam and a legdrop before a commercial break.

Ford and Shida got tags after the break. Shida hit a drive-by knee lift on the apron. Shida hit a missile dropkick and a suplex for a two count.

Statlander tagged in and hit a standing moonsault for a near fall. Ford came back with a DDT. Ford hit a stunner on Statlander. Shida hit Ford with a knee strike and a superplex on Rose. Statlander covered Rose for a two count.

Rose blocked a falcon arrow attempt from Shida. Rose draped Statlander and Shida over the top rope and hit her coast-to-coast knee strike to both.

Shida hit a knee strike to Rose. Shida hit a falcon arrow on Ford for a two count. Sabian grabbed Shida’s ankle. Statlander hit a tope suicida to Sabian.

With the ref distracted, Rose threw Shida’s belt to Ford. Ford hit Shida with the belt and followed with a fisherman’s suplex for the pin.

They put over on commentary that Ford could be in line for a title shot after pinning the champ.

**********

They threw to a Darby Allin video package. Allin said he wasn’t cleared to wrestle. Tony Hawk entered and told Allin that he didn’t need to be cleared to skateboard.

Allin skated as Hawk looked on.

**********

We got a Britt Baker promo video.

Baker said she’s faced more challenges than Big Swole or anyone else in AEW.

She said she’s happy to be a role model for anyone in AEW but she needs to be respected.

**********

Orange Cassidy, Trent & Chuck Taylor defeated Jake Hager, Santana & Ortiz

Inner Circle attacked before the bell. Hager went after Cassidy on the stage.

Santana and Trent began as the legal men. Santana hit a series of chops. Taylor and Trent made a comeback. Taylor hit a tope. Trent hit a spear on Ortiz on the floor.

Cassidy got a hot tag and ran wild. He hit a double poison rana on Santana and Ortiz. He landed a DDT to Santana. Cassidy went up top and Hager cut him off. All six men jumped in as the match broke down.

Inner Circle cleared the ring and isolated Cassidy. Santana went for the Street Sweeper but Taylor shoved him off the top rope.

The finish saw Cassidy use a crucifix to pin Ortiz.

**********

Jericho left the commentary desk and ran to the ring with Floyd the baeball bat. Jericho and Inner Circle left Cassidy and Best Friends laying. Cassidy bladed.

Jericho retrieved a bag of blood oranges and beat Cassidy down with them.

Jericho said that Blood Orange Cassidy has just been juiced. This was a good angle.

**********

Schiavone interviewed MJF.

MJF cut an excellent promo. He said he’s been undefeated for over a year yet somehow Jungle Boy got a TNT title shot last week.

MJF said he’s a great white shark swimming in a pool of minnows. Billy Gunn interrupted and said he’s a great white.

MJF said he’s shocked Billy isn’t trying to get another of his worthless sons a job. Billy grabed MJF’s wrist. MJF called for Wardlow. Wardlow intervened and the angle ended.

**********

Ross threw to a video package highlighting Dark Order’s attempts to recruit Colt Cabana.

**********

Sammy Guevara defeated Colt Cabana

This was really more of an extended angle than a match.

Guevara came to the ring with a knee scooter still selling his golf cart injury. He was totally fine once the match started. Cabana came out with a scooter as well to mock Sammy.

The match began and they flipped each other off. Guevara cut Cabana off immediately and worked him over with a chinlock through a commercial break.

Cabana blocked a burning GTS attempt. Cabana hit flip, flop and fly and a bionic elbow. Cabana hit a flying apple and a splash for a two count. Cabana hit a moonsault for another near fall.

The finish saw Cabana go for the Chicago Skyline. Cabana slipped on the ropes. Guevara then hit the GTH for the pin.

**********

Mr. Brodie Lee entered with the Dark Order. Lee helped Cabana to his feet then left. Cabana followed Lee through the heel tunnel.

**********

Guevara then demanded that his music played. Guevara said he’s the best wrestler in AEW.

Matt Hardy entered. He said he has no problem with Sammy. He said Sammy is the future and reminds him of a young Matt Hardy.

Hardy said for Sammy to realize his potential he needs to get away from Jericho. Sammy said he can’t trust Hardy because Hardy tried to kill him.

Hardy went from 2020 Matt to Matt Facts Matt to Damascus and said he would eat and delete Sammy.

**********

A Joey Janela video package played.

Janela said he came to AEW to be a star but he’s gone from wrestling Jon Moxley to an afterthought. He said he’s lost his way over the last six months. Janela was shown drinking at a bar.

Janela left the bar and said sometimes he thinks his best days in wrestling are behind him.

Sonny Kiss pulled up in a convertible. Kiss told Janela to get in. To be continued…

I think it’s a good idea to try to rehab Janela’s character. He and Kiss have teamed together on Dark and you can always use more tag teams.

**********

Dasha tracked down Cabana backstage. She asked if Cabana’s defeat has brought him here.

Cabana ignored Dasha and entered Lee’s dressing room.

**********

Billy (w/Austin Gunn) vs. MJF, Omega and PAge vs. Natural Nightmares for the tag titles, a TNT title match, Jericho and Guevara vs. Best Friends for a shot at the tag titles at Fyter Fest and Young Bucks vs. Havoc and Sabian were announced for next week.

**********

Alex Marvez interviewed Jon Moxley in the parking lot.

Moxley said he’s in a bad mood and not just because it hurts to sit on the toilet or because his back and neck hurt. He said it’s because Taz is running his mouth.

Moxley said what sets him apart is that he’s miserable. That misery makes him train harder and hit harder. He said it pisses him off that Taz and Cage think Cage can beat Moxley. He promised to pop Cage’s head like a pimple.

Taz approached and confronted Moxley. Cage then attacked Moxley from behind.

They preceded to have a brawl in the parking lot. Cage hit a spinebuster on Moxley on the hood of a car. He threatened a powerbomb. Taz told Cage not to do it, that they already sent their message.

Cage ignored Taz’s plea and powerbombed Moxley on the trunk of a car.

I liked this angle a lot. It established that even Taz can’t control Cage.

**********

A hype video for the main event played.

Cody put over Quen as a top level opponent. Cody said he wants to prove he’s better bell-to-bell than people give him credit for and that’s why he is doing an open challenge every week.

Cody said his effort needs to be top-shelf.

The main event is next.

**********

Isiah Kassidy and Matt Hardy entered with Quen but then went to the back.

AEW TNT Championship Match: Cody (w/Arn Anderson) defeated Marq Quen to retain the title

This was a very good match. Cody again played a subtle heel role with his mannerisms and going after Quen’s injured ankle.

Cody and Quen shook hands at the opening bell.

They traded tackles and drop downs. Quen hit a standing moonsault and a dropkick. Cody applied a leg capture dragon sleeper before an ad break. The announcers drew attention to Quen’s storyline ankle injury that was set up a couple of weeks ago.

During the break, Cody tossed Quen outside. Cody stomped on the ankle. Quen went for a springboard attack but sold that his ankle gave out.

After the commercials, Cody posted the left ankle of Quen. Cody hit an inverted superplex off the top rope. Quen came back with a corkscrew DDT. Quen hit two dives over the top rope to the floor.

Quen teased a third dive. Cody jumped back in. Quen tossed Cody out of the other side of the ring and hit a spectacular flip dive over the top.

Cody crawled to the ramp. Quen hit a 450 splash from the top rope to the ramp.

The finish saw Quen go for a shooting star press. Cody side-stepped and Quen crashed to the mat. Cody applied an ankle lock and Quen tapped.

**********

Cody and Quen embraced and shook hands after the match. Quen then left the ring to Cody and Arn.

Jake Hager then entered. Hager went after Arn. Cody went after Hager. Hager dropped Cody with a slam.

Kassidy, Quen and Hardy ran out to make the save. Kassidy and Quen hit Hager with chairs and Hardy clotheslined him to the floor.

Santana, Ortiz and Guevara ran in and a brawl broke out.

Hardy hit Guevara with a twist of fate. Cody hit Hager with a chair.

Cody grabbed a mic. He said he thinks he knows what Hager was after.

Cody said Hager wants a TNT title match at Fyter Fest and he’s on.

It had been a while since they have done one of these Nitro-like brawls to end a show. They’re almost always fun and this was no exception.
