AEW Dynamite video highlights: The end of Vanguard One

Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite continued the build to Double or Nothing as Jon Moxley went after the Dark Order and Chris Jericho took out his frustrations on Matt Hardy’s Vanguard One.

After Brodie Lee defeated Christopher Daniels in the main event of last night’s show, both SCU and The Dark Order got into it leading to the AEW World Champion trying unsuccessfully to get his hands on Lee and the stolen title. He then cut a promo vowing a “hailstorm of violence” on Lee in their DoN title match.

Also on the show, after Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega were victorious over The Inner Circle’s Santana and Ortiz, Inner Circle leader Chris Jericho got a measure of revenge as the heels destroyed Hardy’s Vanguard One drone. Jericho also defeated his nemesis Pineapple Pete on the show.

Hikaru Shida was victorious in a four-way that determined the number one contender to Nyla Rose’s AEW Women’s World Championship and was later attacked by Rose with a kendo stick.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: Omega-Guevara, Brodie Lee debut

Wednesday’s restructured AEW Dynamite featured a match with the AAA title on the line, Tony Schiavone and Cody Rhodes on commentary, the promotional in-ring debut of Brodie Lee, and the first face-to-face meeting between Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy in years.

AEW World champion Jon Moxley also made a surprise appearance, attacking Jake Hager after his win over QT Marshall, teasing a future match between the two.

No matches were set up for next week, nor was the show even referenced. However, from a Jake Roberts promo into a Cody response, it appears Lance Archer will make his promotional debut next week if AEW is still able to do a live show.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: Matt Hardy and Brodie Lee debut

Even though Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite was filmed on a closed set due to the coronavirus pandemic, the show was filled with newsworthy events including the debut appearances of two former WWE talents at different points of their respective careers.

In the show’s final segment, Matt Hardy was revealed as The Elite’s substitution for the injured Nick Jackson, making their impending Blood & Guts double cage match an even fight.

Earlier in the night, Brodie Lee (the former Luke Harper in WWE) was revealed as The Exalted One, ending months of speculation on who it would be which included Christopher Daniels and Hardy himself.

The show also featured a six-man tag for the man advantage in the Blood & Guts match, a four-way women’s match, and plenty of other action from the empty Daily’s Place arena in Jacksonville, Florida, save a dozen wrestlers acting as fans at ringside.

AEW Dynamite video highlights: The Inner Circle strikes back

Image: AEW

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in Broomfield, CO, — the follow-up to AEW Revolution — continued the rivalry between AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho with the now former champion standing tall with the Inner Circle.

Jericho said if Moxley walked out of Dynamite after the Jericho/Sammy Guevara vs. Moxley/Darby Allin main event, he would leave AEW for 60 days. The Inner Circle jumped Moxley before the match and as the champion staggered to the ring after Allin was defeated in essentially a handicap match, the group attacked again and put him through a table off the stage.

Also, Jake “The Snake” Roberts made his promotional debut in confronting Cody Rhodes, promising his “client” was coming to destroy Rhodes and bring the darkness.
