Lucha Underground results: ‘Left for Dead’

Season 3 — Episode 25: “Left for Dead”

The first round of the Cueto Cup tournament wrapped up on the latest episode of Lucha Underground. Storylines advanced and feuds continued at The Temple in Boyle Heights.

The title of the episode referred to the video package that opened the show highlighting the back story of Dante Fox. His story involves his foe, Killshot, and their background in the military. Fox was taken hostage while serving in Afghanistan.

Presumably, Killshot escaped the clutches of terrorists, but in doing so he left Fox behind. Soldiers eventually rescued Fox, leading to him making his way to Boyle Heights where he seeks revenge against Killshot.

PJ Black defeated Sexy Star to advance in the Cueto Cup

Black was the first member of the Worldwide Underground stable to appear on this episode. The stable had a prominent role on the show. In this match, another member of the stable caused a distraction that led to the finish.

In the match, Black provided a good base for Sexy Star’s flying lucha arsenal. She got plenty of offense on the way to losing the match. Black toyed with her early on, but Star quickly fired up ahead of a series of lucha spots.

Star got a near fall after a super Frankensteiner. She also flew to the outside with a crossbody. Back in the ring, she used a second flying crossbody for another near fall. At that point, Taya came out to ringside to cause a distraction. Taya also tossed Black a pair of brass knux, only for Star to get ahold of them.

Star hit Black with the brass knux, and was thusly disqualified. So, she also laid out the referee using the knux. Taya fled with a smirk on her face, as she accomplished her goal of costing Star the match and getting a win for her stablemate. This seemingly builds to a grudge match between Taya and Sexy Star.

In the weekly countdown hype video building towards Johnny Mundo against Rey Mysterio, this week’s edition showed a montage of training footage. Each combatant also talked about their chances of winning. The story remains that Mysterio is a man of people and Mundo is the cocky champion. These videos have all been tremendous pieces of business, and this edition was more of the same.

Son of Havoc defeated Son of Madness to advance in the Cueto Cup

The story is both are part of a motorcycle club, and Son of Madness arrived in The Temple to make Son of Havoc pay a penance for some slight towards the club. Both had almost identical gear, including similar vests that Matt Striker referred to as their “colors” that represented the club.

This being a grudge match of sorts, there was no collar-and-elbow lockup to start the match. Nor did they have a traditional match. Rather, they had a fight as they brawled in and out of the ring in a match that was all action.

Madness got heat on Havoc, then Havoc made a comeback. Though Madness blocked an attempted Muta-style handspring back elbow, Havoc hit the move moments later. He followed that with a springboard crossbody for a near fall. Madness countered with a double foot stomp and a brainbuster for a near fall. Havoc rallied into doing a tope suicida.

For the finish, Havoc went for a shooting star press that Madness avoided. Havoc impressively landed on his feet only to get schoolboyed. Havoc kicked out and used his own schoolboy to score the pin.

After the match, Madness laid out Havoc and took his vest. Therefore, this feud must continue. Jean Pierre Lafitte once stole Bret Hart’s ring jacket during a lackluster feud in 1995. Let us hope this feud between bikers is more memorable than that. Judging by the action in this match, it probably will be.

Prince Puma defeated Ricky Mandel to advance in the Cueto Cup

Puma wrestled in street clothes that included a hoodie and pants. It was a similar look to what Ricochet wore during his run-in this past weekend at the G1 Special where he seemingly directed a veiled insult at Lucha Underground. Instead of a cap and glasses like in Long Beach, Puma had a mask on in this match at The Temple. There were also no insults, just brooding by Puma.

Mandel is an interning member of Worldwide Underground who cosplayed as Johnny Mundo in this match. Beforehand, he told Puma that he was taking him to “slam town.” Instead, Puma gave him a superkick and proceeded to pummel him in a glorified squash. That does not bode well for Mandel’s internship.

Puma followed the superkick with a northern lights suplex and a brainbuster for a near fall. Mandel tried to fight back, but to no avail. Puma finished off Mandel with a spinning Michinoku Driver for a pinfall in a quick match where Puma showcased his dark side.

An advertisement for Modelo beer highlighted the accomplishments of Sexy Star. The ad portrayed her winning the Lucha Underground Championship as her breaking through a glass ceiling. The ad also insisted it “cemented her place as one of the most iconic female performers in lucha libre history.” Yeah, and Mae Young is a “pioneer” of women’s wrestling.

In a locker room scene, Mysterio was giving a pep talk to Dragon Azteca, who vowed to win the tournament and go on to face Mysterio when he wins the championship. Prince Puma entered the scene to interrupt them. He vowed to win the tournament, and he also wanted to face Mysterio for the title. Puma promised he would not lose in their rematch.

Dante Fox defeated Dragon Azteca Jr. (w/ Rey Mysterio) to advance in the Cueto Cup

They took it to the air early on in the match. Fox began to dominate with his aerial arsenal as the crowd chanted his name. Azteca made a comeback and did a hurricanrana on the floor. That led into a flurry of offense from Azteca. Fox cut him off and they exchanged strikes. Fox executed a running Spanish Fly for a near fall. A “this is awesome” chant broke out.

Taya made her second run-in of the show, flanked by others in the Worldwide Underground. Mysterio fought them off at first as the match continued. Then, Mysterio was catapulted into the arms of Johnny Mundo, who powerbombed him into a wall. The heel stable ganged up on Mysterio for a beatdown.

Azteca made the save with a dive through the ropes. He went to springboard back into the ring, only for him to eat a superkick from Fox. He then delivered the Fox Catcher to score the pinfall. With that, the first round of the tournament is over.

On the next episode, the second round of the Cueto Cup features Mil Muertes against Paul London. Also, Taya meets Jeremiah Crane in a tournament match and Marty the Moth faces Fenix in another tourney match.

Lucha Underground results: Killshot and Crane do battle

Season 3 — Episode 24: “Macho Madness”

The Cueto Cup continued on the latest installment of Lucha Underground. Killshot and Jeremiah Crane tried to tear the house down with a wild match. In another match, Mil Muertes destroyed an opponent only to get destroyed later on.

Elsewhere, Paul London used a carrot as a weapon and Taya tangled with Joey Ryan. A new character also debuted in the final scene.

The episode opened with a scene featuring Catrina summoning Mil Muertes. In reference to the Cueto Cup, she instructed him to “destroy them all.” Muertes said he would destroy them for her, his love. Catrina kissed him and said, “Bring me the Cueto Cup.”

Mil Muertes (w/ Catrina) defeated Veneno to advance in the Cueto Cup

Muertes won in a complete squash as he ragdolled his opponent. He pummeled Veneno with ground and pound before executing a flatliner. Muertes then pinned him. After the match, Catrina administered the Lick of Death.

Paul London defeated Vibora (w/ Kobra Moon) via countout to advance in the Cueto Cup

London attacked Vibora before the bell, then flew through the ropes with a dropkick. Vibora began to no-sell London’s assault, so London grabbed Kobra Moon. He briefly held her hostage with a carrot (yes, a carrot). Vibora struck down London and the crowd chanted “save the carrot.”

Vibora began to dominate on offense when London briefly fired up. That led to London being tossed off the top rope, and he crashed down on the mat. That would not be his last crash in the match.

Members of the Rabbit Tribe ran in to cause a distraction. That allowed London to send Vibora over the ropes with a headscissors takeover. London went for a trust fall and landed badly.

With the crowd chanting for him, London rolled back in the ring. Rabbit Tribe members hiding under the ring grabbed Vibora’s legs and he was unable to get back into the ring before being counted out.

Taya defeated Joey Ryan to advance in the Cueto Cup

At the start, Ryan offered Taya his lollipop after rubbing it on his oily chest. She smacked it away and attacked him. When Ryan took a powder, Taya grabbed him by his chest hair to throw him back into the ring. Ryan cut her off and began administering some clubbing blows.

Ryan climbed the turnbuckles, but took too much time in doing so. Taya made a comeback that began with hard chops and slaps. After some counters and exchanges, Taya executed a northern lights suplex. She then leapt into a double foot stomp and pinned Ryan.

In a scene from the locker room, Mil Muertes was about to head somewhere dressed in a suit. Suddenly, Jeremiah Crane attacked Muertes with a chair. Crane delivered several chair shots and left him laying. Crane knelt over a prone Muertes to say, “She’s mine.” That was a reference to Catrina, whom Crane came on to in the past. Crane put a chair over him and hit it with another chair as the scene ended.

In the weekly countdown video hyping Johnny Mundo against Rey Mysterio in a title match, the focus was interviews with several Lucha Underground stars including Chavo Guerrero Jr., Cage, Prince Puma, and Matt Striker. They all put over Mundo and Mysterio, and gave their picks on who will win the upcoming Lucha Underground Championship match.

Jeremiah Crane defeated Killshot to advance in the Cueto Cup

This was a wild match that took place outside the ring more so than in it during the first half of the bout. Mere seconds into the match, Killshot did a suicide dive through the ropes. Crane countered with a Fosbury Flop. In return, Killshot did a flop of his own. They then began brawling around ringside.

Killshot did a dive off a stage. Moments later, Crane gave Killshot an exploder suplex on the floor. Crane then ran around the ring as he built up speed before launching into a cannonball that took out the front rows of ringside.

When they finally got back in the ring, Killshot countered Crane with a sunset bomb for a near fall. Crane cut him off, and he charged into a corner with a kick (similar to a Broski Boot).

They began trading near falls. Killshot fired up and hit a cutter for a near fall. Crane delivered a brutal brainbuster for a near fall. They went back and forth in the closing moments, leading to a double down.

Out on the apron, Killshot dropped Crane onto the edge of the ring with a Death Valley Driver. Killshot followed that by climbing to the top rope, and he jumped off into a double foot stomp for yet another near fall.

Crane spat on Killshot, which only fired him up. Killshot exploded into a flurry of strikes. A “fight forever” chant broke out in The Temple. Killshot did a swinging DDT for another near fall. Crane got a rope break after Killshot applied a short arm scissors.

Dante Fox appeared in the rafters like he was Sting, without all the Crow gimmickry. The appearance of Fox distracted Killshot. Crane capitalized on the distraction. He delivered a double underhook powerbomb for the deciding pinfall.

After the match, Catrina stood at the top of the staircase. She had a staredown with Crane as the credits began to roll.

The closing scene featured Dario Cueto in his office explaining the Cueto Cup to someone else. That someone was a masked man named Son of Madness. He wanted a match with Son of Havoc.

It just so happened that Son of Havoc was the only person not booked for a tournament match. Cueto obliged by booking a tournament match between the two for next week. Son of Madness has arrived. Oh yeah, dig it.

Lucha Underground results: Romance clashes with lucha

Season 3 — Episode 23: “Family First”

Relationships, and the fighting that surrounds them, was a theme on the latest installment of Lucha Underground. The show tackled two different relationships. One involves a blooming romance between lovers and the other involves crazed siblings with violent tendencies.

Likewise, an eerie love triangle continues to develop in another sub-plot.

In the main event, Fenix fought in a match dedicated to Melissa Santos. Her character played a prominent role in a plot involving her being attached romantically with Fenix while Marty the Moth continues to stalk her. In the match dedicated to Santos, Fenix wrestled Mariposa in an intergender match.

All four matches on the show made up another block in the opening round of the Cueto Cup.

The opening scene showed Fenix arriving to The Temple earlier in the day. Fenix drove his sports car into a parking spot, where Melissa Santos met him for a romantic embrace. Fenix dedicated his match later on to her. They were unaware someone was watching them.

Lurking in the shadows, Marty the Moth spied on them as Santos and Fenix kissed. That greatly upset Marty, who is stalking Santos. Fenix and Santos left together, only angering Marty even more. He smashed his head into a glass window.

Moments later, after the introductory segment with Vampiro and Matt Striker, Santos was in the ring, As the ring announcer, she introduced the participants in the episode’s first match.

All the matches had a particular theme, with the opening match being about a murderous machine against a bum. In his first appearance since his character committed a gruesome murder on the previous episode, Cage enters the Cueto Cup tournament.

Cage defeated Vinnie Massaro to advance in the Cueto Cup

Cage had his gimmicked gauntlet. Massaro was doing a bum gimmick similar to the Brooklyn Brawler, without the New York Yankees apparel nor a cigar. Cage squashed him. Massaro did get a hope spot, but foolishly tried to steal the metal glove. He would pay for that by getting pummeled even more relentlessly. Cage gave him a brainbuster for the pinfall.

After the match ended, Cage kept attacking him. He put on his gimmicked glove to use as he pummeled Massaro some more. He laid out Massaro with a punch using the gauntlet. Massaro got color, bleeding from the forehead.

In the now-weekly segment hyping the upcoming match with Johnny Mundo defending his Lucha Underground Championship against Rey Mysterio, a sleek video package furthered the attempt at giving the match a big fight feel.

Mysterio trained, hung out with a mob of adoring young fans, and did an interview in front of a mural of himself painted by a street artist. The narrator played up the worldwide fame and notoriety of Mysterio.

Mundo trained by getting whacked repeatedly with kendo sticks. He also sparred with the kendo sticks and took out his sparring partner with a wicked shot to the neck. He twirled kendo sticks afterwards. He also did an interview playing a cocky and confident champion heading into the title match.

Marty “the Moth” Martinez defeated Saltador to advance in the Cueto Cup

The theme of this match was wackiness, so much so that the crowd chanted “let’s get weird” at one point. Striker called it “the odd versus the weird.” In a sub-plot of the wacky match, Marty made unwanted advances towards Santos. He leered at her as she sold being creeped out.

The personalities carried the match more so than athleticism, though they still had a good match with a simple formula of shine, heat, comeback, and the heel cutting off the comeback for the win. Marty spat on the referee during the match, which was somehow apparently not against the rules.

At the finish, Marty the Moth executed a dominator into a codebreaker before he pinned Saltador.

Backstage, members of the Rabbit Tribe worshipped Mascarita Sagrada. They bowed and knelt at his feet, praising him as their “king.” They groveled as he seemed dismissive of such a notion. Sagrada walked past them and headed to the ring for his match.

In another scene, Marty the Moth was in his lair talking to photographs of Santos. Marty muttered to a collage of pictures before his sister, Mariposa, suddenly interrupted him. Mariposa wants to fight her brother next week in the next round of the tournament.

Mariposa told him that his “lust for [Santos] has made you weak.” Mariposa and Marty slapped each other across the face. Mariposa walked away, leaving Marty to converse with the photographs.

Pindar (w/ Kobra Moon) defeated Mascarita Sagrada to advance in the Cueto Cup

The theme of this match was monster against mini. They actually had a fairly competitive match that still played off the ridiculous size difference. Pindar was a good base for Sagrada to fly around.

Kobra Moon tried to interfere at one point, but Sagrada thwarted her attempt. He then slapped her moments later. Sagrada got plenty of offense and a near fall after a moonsault press. Pindar eventually used the size difference to his advantage. He finished off Sagrada with a powerbomb into a flapjack of sorts, then pinned him.

Fenix defeated Mariposa to advance in the Cueto Cup

The theme of this match was man against woman. Moreover, two stories also played out involving two separate relationships that played into the backstory. One was romance between two lovers, and the other relationships dealt with an eerie sibling rivalry.

Fenix and Santos were at the forefront, linked together as a couple that blew kisses at each other during the match. The story of the siblings, Mariposa and Marty, played into the finish showing they will fight for family even if the family is at odds with each other.

The intergender match began with Fenix being somewhat timid with fighting a woman. That soon changed when he nailed a kick. Moments later, Mariposa countered with a tornado DDT. They fought on the floor with Mariposa getting the better with a hurricanrana. Mariposa did some lucha spots with Fenix.

Echoing the kick earlier in the match, Fenix first held back on a high kick when Mariposa offered a questionable handshake. He thought it over and then kicked her in the head. She fought back with a modified sunset flip powerbomb.

Fenix went for a Spanish Fly, but Mariposa blocked the attempt. She went for a flying crossbody off the middle rope, and Fenix caught her. He then dropped her into a Fenix Driver for the pinfall.

After the bell sounded, Marty the Moth ran in to attack Fenix. During the next round of the tournament, the two are set for a match. So Marty the Moth stomped on Fenix trying to soften him up, until Fenix fired up.

Fenix did a wild flip dive over the ropes to the floor. Santos seemed very impressed. More kisses were blown back and forth in celebration. Romance ruled the day, even if a stalker lurks.

Lucha Underground results: Cueto Cup begins on a show that ends in murder

Season 3 — Episode 22: “The Cup Begins”

The latest episode of Lucha Underground included the start of the Cueto Cup tournament. The 32-man single elimination tournament leads to a title match at Ultima Lucha Tres.

Besides opening round matches in the tournament, the episode included one of the most dramatic cliffhangers in the history of the show. An apparent homicide occurred as a city councilman was murdered by someone from The Temple.

In the opening scene, Dario Cueto was in his office booking the Cueto Cup tournament. Someone off camera walked into the office. With his back turned to the uninvited guest, Cueto told the intruder to go back outside and knock on the door first.

Cueto’s tone changed when he heard the visitor speak. Cueto knew that voice as Pentagon Dark, who in storyline is returning to The Temple after healing from a broken arm suffered at the hands of The Triad. He asked Cueto about their whereabouts.

Cueto said they left for Hong Kong. He added that Pentagon broke one of their arms first before he suffered the same fate. A riled Pentagon threatened to break Cueto’s arm. Cueto tried to reason with him as Pentagon violently grabbed his hand. Cueto pleaded with him to think about the Lucha Underground Championship, reminding Pentagon that is what he really wants.

Cueto immediately booked Pentagon in the tournament, telling him he can earn a title shot at Ultima Lucha Tres. Pentagon vowed that if he fails to win the title at Ultima Lucha, then Cueto is “leaving with broken bones.”

The Mack defeated Mala Suerte to advance in the Cueto Cup

They began with flashy lucha spots and built to a double down that led into the closing moments. In a funny heel spot, Suerte played rudo as he taunted the crowd by teasing a wild plancha across the whole ring. Instead, he jumped down from the ropes to overthrow himself into a simple back senton. Then, when he actually went for the senton off the top he missed.

Mack used a Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Suerte got a near fall with a crucifix pin. Suerte missed a senton bomb and Mack went to finish him off. Mack hit him with The Pounce before giving him a stunner, and Mack pinned Suerte to advance to the next round of the tournament.

In the locker room, Cage was pumping iron as he admired his newly-gimmicked hand. Cueto entered the scene and told Cage he has someone he should meet so they could talk about his new powers from his gimmick hand.

Cage seemed disinterested, but Cueto gave him a business card anyway. Cage now has the contact information for a Councilman Delgado, whose office is located at City Hall. This sets up the final scene of this episode.

Pentagon Dark defeated Argenis to advance in the Cueto Cup

While Argenis is a talented flyer that got to shine some, this was more a showcase for the returning Pentagon. The crowd was hot for Pentagon, including chants of “Cero Miedo” (Zero Fear). Pentagon toyed with his prey early on in the match as he threw kicks at his legs.

Argenis did get a comeback and a near fall, but to no avail. Pentagon delivered a Cero Miedo Driver for another near fall. Eventually, Pentagon finished him off with a package piledriver, then Pentagon covered Argenis for the pinfall.

After the match, Pentagon reprised his gimmick of breaking arms. He supposedly broke the arm of Argenis before leaving the ring.

Texano defeated Famous B (w/ Beautiful Brenda) to advance in the Cueto Cup

This was a complete squash, yet it still had a story. Playing off Texano’s gimmick, Famous B was wearing a cowboy hat and dressed in a knock-off Nudie suit. He addressed ring announcer Melissa Santos. She was not impressed. Famous B then told Texano that he wanted to become his manager.

To show good faith, Famous B laid down for Texano to cover him for a pin. Texano teased doing so, only to pull Famous B up and deliver a sit-out powerbomb. Texano then pinned Famous B.

Afterwards, the storyline between them continued as Brenda slapped Texano on the ass. Texano and Brenda had a moment in passing, in a tease for something down the line.

A great video package hyped the upcoming Lucha Underground Championship match with champion Johnny Mundo defending against Rey Mysterio. A narrator with a British accent talked about the importance and magnitude of the title match while a montage of training footage showed the combatants preparing for battle. It was a tremendous piece of business.

Drago (w/ Kobra Moon) defeated Aerostar to advance in the Cueto Cup

In a battle of former friends turned foes, they had an outstanding lucha-style match. Kobra Moon led Drago to the ring with a chain leash locked around the neck of Drago. Drago’s gear is also now red since he turned heel.

Kobra Moon was an ever-present fixture in the match as he shouted commands at Drago during the bout. She even interfered at one point, tripping up Aerostar.

Drago slightly hesitated when ordered to finish off Aerostar, which Matt Striker noted on commentary. At one point, Drago countered with a crazy running blockbuster DDT to stop a comeback. During another attempt at a comeback in the closing moments, Aerostar tried the Dragon’s Lair for a near fall. Drago countered the move into a version of his own, pinning Aerostar for the three count.

Kobra Moon ordered Drago to “kill him” after the match. Drago attacked Aerostar for a beatdown, though he stopped short of actually killing him. The talk of murder foreshadowed the final scene in the show where a supposed homicide occurred.

Cage visited City Hall in the closing scene where he met with Councilman Delgado. The city councilman told Cage he cannot take off the gimmicked glove. Cage appeared to have no qualms about that since the glove is becoming part of him as it shapes and changes his persona. Delgado told Cage the glove will bring him power that he cannot even imagine.

Delgado began to talk about their “work” when Cage objected, saying he does not work for him. Delgado made another snide remark about Cage’s life now having purpose after being meaningless before. That remark angered Cage, who used his gimmicked hand to grab Delgado by the throat. Cage slammed Delgado against a wall while choking him.

Cage briefly came to his senses and released the choke. He apologized to Delgado, who accepted by saying that Cage is still thinking like a man. Cage looked at his glove for a moment, then a maniacal look came over his face. Cage snapped as he punched Delgado with the gloved hand. Blood and gore tripped off the glove, as Cage seemed to have literally punched Delgado’s head off.

Cage turned to leave the office as Delgado’s headless body lay prone on the floor covered in gore. Cage said he’s no longer a man, he is a machine! As Cage walked away from the murder scene he stepped on an eyeball, crushing it in the closing moment of the show.

Lucha Underground results: Dario Cueto makes an announcement

The Big Takeaway —

Drago’s future with the Reptile Tribe moved forward in a big way, while the slow burn towards Prince Puma turning heel with Vampiro by his side continued.

There was nothing out of this world on this show, but it was a solid night of action with a very good main event that worked as both a match and a way to further a larger story.

Show Recap —

We started off with a recap of the Reptile Tribe’s torture of Drago before a rundown of All Night Long led to Dario Cueto making the sudden death round for tonight.

Rey Mysterio Jr. chatted with Prince Puma backstage as he had visions about Vampiro’s destruction of others. Vampiro appeared in ghoulish makeup to warn Mysterio.

The band played before the fans sang “Return of the Mack” for Mack. Cueto said that the winner of the first fall tonight gets the title and that it’s now falls count anywhere.

Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo defeated The Mack in a sudden death falls count anywhere match to retain his title

Mack bullied him into the corner for a jumping lariat. Mack and Mundo walked and brawled for a bit before Mack hit a cannonball onto Mundo on a pile of chairs. Mundo ate a few chair shots before a twirling slam on some chairs got two for Mack.

Mundo hid in the people before Mack went to toss a chair at him, but Ricky Mandel saved him and Mundo dove on Mack for two. Mundo told Mandel to get a chainsaw, but Sexy Star attacked Mandel.

Mack got a near fall off a Sky High onto a trash can. PJ Black came in but ate a stunner. Mundo took advantage and got two before going for the End of the World — but Mack got his knees up. Taya came in and distracted Mack so Mundo could win with a sunset flip bomb to the floor onto chairs.

Matt Striker said that Cueto has an Earth-shattering announcement and he said that things like Dario’s Dial of Doom and the Battle of the Bulls have kept Lucha Underground unpredictable and violent.

Cueto said that he’s the reason for it and that the office should say Lucha Libre Genius and he has new imaginative concepts for Ultima Lucha Tres — including the Cueto Cup!

He took the trophy from Melissa Santos and told her to leave before announcing that 32 luchadores will compete in a tournament for the Cueto Cup, and the winner gets a title shot at Ultima Lucha Tres.

Cueto said that a man will get a shot on that night, but it won’t be Matanza because “two weeks ago” he was beaten up by Mysterio, so Mysterio will face Mundo on the night of the Cueto Cup Finals.

The Reptile Tribe defeated Aerostar, Drago & Fenix

Aerostar began against Pindar, but Pindar used his power to dominate. Pindar went for a dominator, but Aerostar turned it into an armdrag. Vibora hit a pump kick off of a Pindar slingshot. Vibora sent him over with a suplex before Kobra stomped Aero on the floor. Pindar held him up for a powerslam off the top, but it was turned into a rana.

Vibora went to chokeslam Fenix off the apron, but got a tombstone on the floor instead. Drago misted Aerostar and Pindar hit a cutter, then they held him up so Drago could pin Aerostar with a splash off the top.

Kobra chained him up to remind everyone that this may have been done as an ultimatum — so it’s not quite a full heel turn.

Mandel was in Mundo’s locker room after he showered and Taya told Mundo that he’ll have to defend against Mysterio. Mandel was told to warm up the car — Mundo needs to get to his dojo ASAP. Mundo said he’s scared and she told him to put some pants on. He had the best line of the season with, “No time for pants!”

Catrina led Mil Muertes down to the ring to battle Prince Puma.

Prince Puma defeated Mil Muertes in a Boyle Heights street fight

Puma rushed him and attacked from behind with a running dropkick. Puma hit a big flip dive to a giant “Puma” chant. He set up a table, but ended up eating a spear through it immediately.

Muertes threw him into some chairs before punching and chopping away. A DDT on the floor led to Muertes getting more weapons and then fighting with street signs. Puma laid him out with a DDT and then hit a 450 off the apron. They fought up through the fans and Puma kicked away to avoid being thrown off the steps.

Muertes beat him with a shoe before fireman’s carrying him down the steps and landing a TKO. Puma tossed a trash can at Muertes before kicking away at him in the crowd and then getting tossed off the banister. Muertes tossed him into Cueto’s office, where he was polishing his trophy.

Puma used a wrench to knock Muertes down. Muertes leered at Vampiro before torturing Puma more with lariats in the corner.  Muertes hit a spinning uranage for two. Puma then landed a series of trash can lid shots before a Van Daminator with the can lid. He set Muertes up in the corner for a spinning Van Terminator for a near fall.

The 630 senton hit, but Catrina attacked him with the stone, so Vampiro gave Puma a brick, which he used to beat Muertes after blocking a spear with it.

Lucha Underground results: Mundo and The Mack go All Night Long

A recap of season three showed Johnny Mundo winning the Lucha Underground title and The Mack earning a title shot by winning a multi-man match. They got into a fight on the last show before the mid-season break, bringing us to tonight’s All Night Long ironman match.

Metalache played us in with a pleasant mix of guitars and violins. Melissa Santos hyped up this being a one-match show, and we’ll go all night long! The Mack was out first, followed by Mundo.

Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo defeated The Mack in an All Night Long match to retain his title

Vampiro and Matt Striker compared the various signature moves of the two wrestlers, with Striker finding the longest way possible to say “stunner.” Mack slugged away to start, so Mundo used his agility to slink out and in the ring for a sunset flip for two.

Mundo hit Moonlight Drive for two before Vampiro talked about “the big Mack.” Mack went for a superplex, but Mundo slugged away before using his mobility to trip Mack up and get the first fall with the End of the World.

Mundo used a variety of flips but ate a uranage for two. Mundo recovered and sent him down for a Sick Kick to the chest. Mundo landed the Flying Chuck, but took too long for the End of the World, so Mack tried for a schoolboy only to have that countered. Mundo got a cradle and used the ropes to score another fall.

Vampiro pointed out that the second referee should have caught Mundo, while Striker said it’s due to the ref being near Dario Cueto’s office. Mack hit a flip dive, leading to Mundo trying to escape, but landing hard on the apron. Mack tossed him in for two. Mack hit a giant exploder and an Alpha Bomb to earn a pinfall — Mundo is still up two falls to one.

Mundo lured Mack in with a fake neck injury to attack the throat with a choke. They exchanged slugs on their knees before Mack landed a headbutt and a sick chop. Mundo connected with a C4 for a close count. He went up top but ate a super exploder from Mack.

Mundo recovered with a shot to the eye and hit a sick flying corkscrew dive off the top to the floor. Mundo claimed an injury, but Mack didn’t believe it and threw him back in. The trainer came out and they prepared to strap him to a backboard before a break.

They put a splint on Mundo’s ankle and Mack hugged him, then Mundo hit him with a DDT on the stretcher and got a pin. He hopped around and did jumping jacks. Mack and Mundo brawled outside and in the crowd with the backboard. Mack slammed him on the backboard before surfing him down the steps. Okay, that was crazy and awesome.

After this craziness, Mundo got flipped onto his face on the backboard. Mack hit a stunner and Mundo leapt high in the air to give Mack a fall. Mack was down by one fall. Mundo fled before Mack followed — however, Mundo was just under the ring. It was revealed that Mack was chasing PJ Black in disguise, then Mundo caned Mack. Son of Havoc came down to beat up both guys with kendo sticks.

Havoc knocked on Cueto’s office to give something to Mack. Cueto gave him water, but the fans demanded beer, so he grabbed some of their sponsored brew to power up Mack. Mack caned Mundo and Black before Havoc set up a pair of tables.

The heels got the lead for a bit before Mundo ordered the band to play victory music for him. Sexy Star dove off of the bandstand after playing the maracas, leading to one of the funniest calls in the show’s history: “I didn’t know Sexy Star knew how to play maracas!”

Mack hit a Greetings From Asbury Park off the apron through the tables for a win to even the score.

Mack and Mundo traded a trio of dead weight two counts. Mundo brought a table into the ring, then Mack brought a ladder. Five minutes remained in the match as Mundo set up the ladder in the corner. Mundo hit a flapjack on the ladder for two, but an End of the World on the ladder missed.

Mack set up a ladder and chopped Mundo on it before laying him on a table. Ricky Mandell came down and is now the biggest Johnny Mundo fan, so he prevented Mack from climbing. Mack hit a High Fly Flow through the table off the ladder, but time expired at 2.5!

Striker said that everything that Mack went through was for this, and he may not have credibility, but he’s a fan. Mundo was announced as champion, but Cueto said there must be a winner — and next week, it will be restarted with the first fall winning.

Mack laid Mundo out with a stunner and held the title high. He didn’t win it tonight, but he could next week, and he came off like such a star.

Final thoughts —

This was an outstanding match and the best performance Willie Mack has had in the promotion so far. The use of Mandell came out of nowhere, but it never hurts for the heel champion to have another goon in his group.

They formatted it perfectly as well, with Mack having an hour-long match with a lot of smoke and mirrors that were new and a lot of fun to see play out. If there’s a such thing as a star-making match in one night in Lucha Underground, this was it.

Lucha Underground mid-season finale results: Main event deathmatch

The mid-season finale is upon us as Famous B tries to wrangle Texano as a client. Texano himself will face Joey Ryan, while Cage battles a newcomer named Veneno. Prince Puma meets with Catrina, and El Dragon Azteca aims to end the life of Matanza in the show’s main event – a death match. He defies the order of Rey Mysterio Jr. in asking for the match, but will the legend be there for his pupil to show support?

**********

A brief rundown of the season’s biggest events starts things off. We see Famous B enlisting Texano as a client, Matanza’s path of rage, and El Dragon Azteca Jr. swearing to kill Matanza much to Rey Mysterio’s disappointment. Finally, The Mack vs. Johnny Mundo from last week is shown, hyping up All Night Long.

Dario meets with Mr. Delgato, one of the men that Dario met in a limo in season two, and tells him that Cage loves the gauntlets. Their meeting is interrupted by Dragon Azteca Jr., who tells Dario he wants to face Matanza in a death match. Dario grants his wish and talks to someone about making this new main event. Matt and Vamp run down the card and Vamp tells Mil Muertes that his time will come.

Joey Ryan defeated Texano

Vamp hypes this as a blue collar fighter against a cocky guy that makes Texano think of some boss’s son he might have had. Joey tries to avoid contact with Texano, but a dropdown leads to him eating an elbow to the back. An outside-in somersault senton gives Texano an edge, so Joey plays a game of cat and mouse and wins that. Joey tosses him into the barricade and then into the ring before pulling out the lollipop from his trunks.

Joey dominates with choking before Famous B and Brenda come out as a cowboy and cowgirl. Texano hits a flying leg lariat for 2 and then a buzzsaw kick off a sunset flip for 2. Texano sends Joey to the floor and he avoids one dive by ducking, but then eats another one because he’s too cocky. Joey crotches Texano up top, leading to an exploder and a superkick for 2.

Joey goes for the rope, but Famous B holds it so Brenda can hand him a golden horseshoe and clocks Joey to win. Famous B and Brenda celebrate and Famous B is overjoyed because he might get yet another client.

Johnny Mundo comes down and says he has something to say. First, Taya is at home making his documentary. He is the mayor of slam town, the face of Lucha Underground, and he is YOUR CHAMPION. He runs down his list of victims in LU and says the fans never believed in him, but Jack yells loudly that he has always believed in him. The Worldwide Underground hugs and Johnny cuts a promo on The Mack not being able to go all night long with him.

Mack has heard enough and comes down to punch the daylights out of Mundo. Johnny’s goons attack, but Mack stunners PJ and Evans to send Mundo packing while security separates them momentarily before eating stunners. Mack tells Mundo that he’ll take the title and whoop his ass all night long.

Cage defeated Veneno

Veneno comes down while Vamp compares him to some guy who climbs walls in blue and red. Veneno hits a series of kicks before eating a huge lariat in the corner. Veneno avoids the F5 before a Steiner screwdriver squashes the spider. Cage grabs the gauntlet while Striker says that Veneno is yet another man who was unsuccessful in his debut. Sexy Star runs down and tells Veneno it was him.

Prince Puma is shown training and beating up a heavy bag with sticks. We see recaps of his training with Konnan before Catrina tells him about the voices he hears now being due to him coming back from the spirit realm. He tells her of a vision he has of Mil Muertes being in agony. She agrees, but it isn’t Mil’s blood being spilled, it’s Puma’s. This pisses him off, so he destroys the heavy bag.

Matanza Cueto defeated El Dragon Azteca Jr. in a deathmatch

Matanza starts off with a snap sidewinder suplex before grabbing a chair from the floor. Matanza grabs the chair, which gets superkicked into his face. Azteca springs off the chair and hits a flip dive to the floor. Matanza recovers and tosses him around ringside before carrying him up above the office area. Azteca hits a rana sending Matanza into the steps, but he hangs onto the railing. Matanza clubs away with punches and chokeslams him through the bleachers!

Rey comes down, Matanza beats up some fans, and then fights with Rey in the crowd. They fight up above the office area before Rey gets powerbombed into a wall. Rey backdrops Matanza through an office area before Dario closes the Temple. We see Mariposa tie up Marty in a storage room before he tries to free himself from his ropes.

This was a solid show overall even if it wasn’t quite befitting a “mid-season finale” that it turned into.

Lucha Underground results: Johnny Mundo takes on The Mack

Main image: @LuchaElRey

The Battle of the Bulls tournament is recapped, as is the debut of the White Rabbit Tribe. Sexy Star’s fear of spiders is showcased, and Kobra Moon’s kidnapping of Drago is shown too.

Mil Muertes asks how Prince Puma is alive and Catrina tells him that it was Vampiro and his dark magic. In order to get to Puma, he’ll have to take out Vampiro. This seems to excite Muertes, so Vampiro had better watch out. Catrina walks backstage and Jeremiah Crane tells her that he beat Muertes — the man she loves. She tells him that she doesn’t love Muertes before Crane buries his head in his hands.

Metalachi plays us in while Matt Striker runs down the card. It will be Johnny Mundo vs. The Mack for the title tonight. Our first match sees Mariposa vs. Sexy Star, while Striker comes up with 5,000 ridiculous sayings to describe her. Striker says this is their first one-on-one encounter since the No Mas match last season — adding a sense of importance to this while also reminding us that they have been feuding forever.

Sexy Star defeated Mariposa

Star does a variety of flying mares — giving her the diverse moveset of a wrestling bear. I doubt they could’ve done a running rana like she did though. She dives onto Mariposa on the floor, but going to the floor backfires on Star as she gets tossed into the barricade and then swung several times into the announce table. That draws the first “holy sh*t” chant of the evening.

Mariposa takes a long time to set up the Butterfly Effect, so Star counters and lands some chops. Mariposa’s Samoan drop gets two. Mariposa locks on a kneebar, but Star gets the ropes. Star avoids a moonsault and a superplex before double stomping her and winning.

Marty the Moth comes in and consoles Mariposa — before throttling her and hitting a violent chokeslam. Well, that was unexpected. Mascarita Sagrada meets with the White Rabbit Tribe. Paul London calls Sagrada their God — so he calls them crazy.

The Rabbit Tribe comes down and dances around Melissa Santos. They face Kobra Moon’s team of herself, Pindar, and Vibora. A giant Luchasaurus chant breaks out while she drags Drago out on a chain. Vibora is Luchasaurus, while Pindar is the guy in the giant lizard mask and bodysuit.

Pindar, Drago & Vibora defeated The White Rabbit Tribe

Kobra makes Drago take her place. Marisuerte attacks Pindar, before Drago comes in and battles the guy in the checkerboard get-up. The Tribe dances around Drago before he runs away and tags in Vibora, while Striker talks about vibration sensitivity. Vibora double chokeslams the Tribe before Pindar attacks London with many chokes.

Drago tags in and eats a stereo basement dropkick from the Tribe that gets two. The Tribe teases a coast-to-coast dropkick before Marisuerte hops off and just dropkicks him in the corner. Pindar hits a sit-out chokeslam to Marisuerte. London jumps into the arms of Luchasaurus before the tombstone piledriver takes him out. Drago comes in and takes out Saltador with the blockbuster DDT. Fenix and Aerostar make the save for Drago, who is trapped by the chain. They free Drago, but she begs him to leave with them.

Sexy Star meets with The Mack for another wacky meeting. He doesn’t want her coming out there and he wants to prove that he can win the title on his own. She is kind of okay with this, but clearly annoyed.

The Mack meets with Dario Cueto, who tells him that The Mack’s match isn’t for a title — but the winner gets to pick the stipulation for the title match. Mack asks him if he’s a betting man — Dario says he is, and that he should always bet on Mack. Dario looks on with pride at the violence he knows will transpire.

Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo defeated The Mack in a non-title match

Mundo beats Mack down with forearms and kicks while Vampiro says that these shots won’t really hurt Mack as he’s used to street fights and being beaten with batons. They play cat and mouse and Mack turns this game against Mundo after a bird flip leads to him sending Mundo onto the floor. Mundo tosses him into the barricade and hits a flying Chuck kick mid-ring. The End of the World is met with a schoolboy for two.

Mack sends Mundo down and hits a People’s Elbow along with a dab for two. Mack Samoan drops Mundo, kips up, and hits a moonsault for two. A pop-up forearm hits Mundo for two as he uses the ropes to stay alive in the match. Mack hits an apron Codebreaker for two. Mack hits a huge powerbomb, but only gets two.

Mundo’s goons come down, distract Mack, and lead to a low blow cradle for the win. The goons hold Mack down while Mundo tells him he sucks and couldn’t even last 10 minutes — so he’ll take him to slam town all night long. So we’ve got an iron man match for the title, which seems like a perfect way to make Mundo eat his words. They beat up Mack and pose over him.

Mil Muertes comes down and beats up Vampiro. Vampiro does as much as he can to sell without bumping before Puma comes down to save him. Vampiro takes a very safe flatliner while telling Puma to let it happen. Puma stands over the body of yet another fallen master and will certainly battle Muertes once again to try and atone for this beating.

Solid show overall — nothing amazing, but the main event was very good and set up a title match quite well.

Lucha Underground results: Cage & Texano conclude their series

A recap video shows Angelico being taken out by the Worldwide Underground, and a rundown of the best-of-five series between Cage and Texano. We see Vampiro telling Prince Puma that he needs to do to Mil Muertes what Muertes did to Konnan before going to Vampiro’s temple.

Vampiro tells Puma to rise and tells him that his journey into darkness begins tonight. He makes Puma his new pledge. Puma declares his loyalty to Vampiro and says he’s his master. Matt Striker and Vampiro chat for a bit, but don’t really hype up the card much. Jeremiah Crane roams around for a bit in the ring.

Jeremiah Crane defeated Mil Muertes

Crane pump kicks Muertes to start, but then eats a tackle and Muertes dominates him with a series of corner lariats. A snap powerslam wipes him out even further. Catrina licks her hand and she rubs her finger across his forehead. Puma comes down and cane shots Muertes, leading to a pump kick win for Crane.

So now we’ve got Crane as an enemy of Muertes, and that tying into his girlfriend Ivelisse’s issues with Catrina. Puma beats down Muertes and Vampiro looks on with pride. Instead of kneeling on the seal, Puma kneels towards Vampiro.

A random long-haired brunette man and Sexy Star have a wacky mixed-language meeting with him giving her a gift box. She opens the box to reveal a spider. And then she roars.

Texano works out before Famous B introduces himself. Famous B tells Texano that he can help him connect, and he won’t even make him call 423-GET-FAME. Vampiro tells Striker that whatever is between he and Puma should be left alone. This ties into day one of the show with Vampiro loving Puma’s work, but not approving of his choice of mentor.

Jack Evans & PJ Black defeated Son of Havoc & Angelico

Angelico starts and gets a huge chant to begin things. Evans and Angelico flip around for a bit before Evans references their team in AAA before Havoc comes in. PJ grabs the beard, but Havoc gets the handspring elbow. Angelico tags in and hits a series of lariats to PJ. Angelico hits Jack with an outside-in knee strike. Angelico separates his elbow, leading to Evans hitting a slam and getting the win.

Dario Cueto opens a blue-glowing box before Sexy Star yells about Mariposa. She wants a match with her and Dario gives it to her.

Texano defeated Cage in the fourth match of their best-of-five series

Cage boots Texano before Texano hits a Death Valley Driver on the knee for two. Texano gets two off a roll-up. Cage eats an exposed turnbuckle, busting him open. A running elbow hits hard and Texano hits a sit-out powerbomb to get the win and make the series even with two wins apiece.

Dario comes out of his office and says that the opportunity is amazing, and he doesn’t want to wait — match five is next!

Cage defeated Texano to win their best-of-five series

Cage is out on his feet, and Dario makes it an anything goes match. Texano wipes Cage’s blood on his chest and stomps a mudhole into him in the corner. Cage blocks a kick and DDTs him down. Cage goes up top and gets kicked before Texano hits a rana off the top. Texano hits a somersault senton over the top for two. Cage rolls out of a sunset flip and hits a sliding dropkick. Cage sidesteps Texano to send him out before Cage hits a flip dive to the floor. Texano gets sent into Dario’s office wall and then Cage hits him with a keg.

They fight into the bleachers and Cage hits a suplex on Texano — and it wasn’t pretty. He barely got him up and just tossed him down. They fight back down to the ring with Cage leaving blood wherever he goes.

They fight into the “corridors and conduits” of the building, as Striker calls them. They’re just fighting in the crowd and Striker talks about lactic acid buildup becoming an issue. Texano celebrates for a second and Cage hits hard before the crowd claps the Terminator theme. Cage gets tossed off of the crowd area before Texano dives on him.

Texano tosses Cage into a sea of chairs before hitting him with an unprotected chair shot to the head on the floor. Texano grabs the bull rope and whips him a few times. Vampiro talks about Rick Martel being taken out for quite some time by Stan Hansen with shots like that. Cage recovers and hits a running chair shot for two.

Striker puts this over like it’s an all-time classic. Cage hits a flying knee, but the discus lariat misses and Texano locks on a crossface, but Cage rolls him into a two count. A discus lariat hits for a near fall! Cage grabs the bullwhip and takes it to Texano before laying him out with a Steiner Screwdriver to win the series.

Dario tells Cage that he has won the ultimate opportunity — and it’s so powerful, he can’t give it to him in front of the believers. They’re too weak-minded, so he invites him into his office.

Striker hypes up Mack vs. Mundo next week and Dario opens up a box and offers Cage an amulet. Cage puts it on and gains the power of several dozen Cages and chokes Dario while lightning flows through the amulet. Cage accepts the offering and leaves.

Well, this was a fun, fairly focused show. They got Cage over as a pretty top-level guy here and the amulet does give him a unique gimmick — even in this promotion.

Lucha Underground results: Johnny Mundo battles Sexy Star in a cage

Last week, we got a tease of dissension between El Dragon Azteca Jr. and Rey Mysterio. The Battle of the Bulls tournament continued and set up the elimination match finals tonight. Sexy Star will take on Johnny Mundo inside of a cage for the Lucha Underground Championship in tonight’s main event.

Show Recap —

A recap of the Battle of the Bulls tournament starts things off while we see Kobra Moon’s goon squad beat up Drago. Sexy Star’s title win and loss to Mundo are shown, alongside her win against PJ Black ensuring her a rematch.

Matt Striker and Vampiro hype up the title match being inside a cage and possibly leading to the first ever two-time LU Champion. Striker uses a lot of words to describe The Mack, while Vampiro just says that he’s big and here to kick ass. Striker says his description was for his grandmother — who Vamp then tries to hit on.

The Mack defeated PJ Black, Jeremiah Crane, and Cage in the Battle of the Bulls tournament finals

Cage tosses guys into each other before chucking Mack with a German suplex. PJ gets a double stomp to the back and teams with Crane for a pump kick party on Cage. Mack moonsaults onto PJ and Crane for two.

Crane and Mack get into a slap fight. Mack flip dives onto Crane on the floor. Cage dives on that pile, and then PJ hits a moonsault off the top rope to the floor onto them. PJ goes for an apron PK, but gets caught and smashed face-first into the apron from an electric chair position.

Mack goes for a double impact onto Cage, but Cage catches PJ off the top with a Rick Steiner-esque mid-move powerslam. It wasn’t as smooth, but it still got two. Crane gets a really loose choke, but gets tossed off and Cage then hits the F5 on PJ. Texano interferes and hits Cage with the bull rope before everyone hits their finisher and Cage is taken out.

Crane stacks his foes in the corner and hits a double face wash. Crane hits a sick neckbreaker on PJ, then fights up top with The Mack. They fight down and a Batista bomb gets two. Crane locks on a submission, but PJ cradles him for a near fall.

An emerald frosion is hit with Striker paying tribute to Mitsuharu Misawa, and then a super stunner hits to give Mack the win over Crane. PJ and Mack chop away at one another before Mack hits a stunner and wins.

Aerostar and Fenix look for Drago in the bathroom before Kobra Moon and her goons attack them. One of them is Pindar. Luchasaurus spins him into a mirror, resulting in a car crash sound effect for some reason. Another wacky ninja fight scene breaks out and everyone hits a series of badly-synced attacks. Kobra Moon’s gang leaves them laying.

Sexy Star and The Mack have another of their weird multi-language conversations where everyone speaks a different language and understands the other perfectly. He tells her to take the title from Mundo — but says he’ll take it from her. A spider is shown in her locker room.

Dario Cueto talks to Crane, who gets a match and grabs something that he left in Dario’s office ceiling when he was a kid. He tells Catrina and says that he’ll face Mil Muertes and wish he’d have died in the earthquake. So now he’s a ghost or a spirit or a time-traveler or something.

Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo defeated Sexy Star in a steel cage match to retain his title

Sexy Star inspired a generation according to Striker, and her Rita Repulsa staff is apparently a reason why. Mundo kicks her in the stomach, so she kicks his legs. Mundo shoves her into the cage before they get into a race alongside the top ropes, which Star wins with a rana off the top. Mundo hits a spinning Irish curse for two. Mundo hits a series of running fireman’s carry slams into the cage. Mundo goes to escape, so Star hops up and powerbombs him for two.

They fight up top and Star slaps Mundo down. She gives her signal for love and then hits a crossbody off the top of the cage onto Mundo for a near fall. She tries to climb over the top but Mundo attacks her leg. They fight on top of the cage and then on the top rope, where Star lands a series of chops and kicks.

Mundo responds by removing Star’s mask to give him time to escape while she puts it back on. I loved that finish and the match itself wasn’t too bad. As Mundo leaves, Mack hits a stunner on the steps.

Drago is shown being chained up in Kobra Moon’s throne room. She tells him that Pindar will fetch a small meal and let him feast on the bones — but he says he’d rather starve. She leaves and he unleashes a fireball in this bizarre Mortal Kombat-meets-Power Rangers storyline.

Lucha Underground results: The Battle of the Bulls continues

The program begins with a recap of Angelico’s history with Johnny Mundo and Kobra Moon debuting her new tribe. Matanza’s path of rage after his title loss is recapped and Mundo’s title win leads to a recap of Sexy Star’s match last week against PJ Black.

Matt Striker and Vampiro talk about the Battle of the Bulls tournament — the finals will be in a steel cage.

Jeremiah Crane defeated Killshot, Dante Fox, and Mariposa in a Battle of the Bulls tournament match

Fox hits a jumping kick on Mariposa before diving onto the floor. Mariposa hits him with a missile dropkick off the top. Crane lands a triangle lariat to Fox. Killshot goes to dive on the pile, but Crane tosses a chair at his head. Crane hits a forearm shiver and sets up a giant bridge of chairs.

We get a tower of doom spot with Mariposa as the base taking all the men down through the chair bridge. Crane sets up a shot in the corner, but eats a pump kick from Fox. Killshot hits Fox with a rewind rana and Crane goes for a half-nelson suplex on the chair before being countered.

Crane locks on the stretch muffler on Killshot and Mariposa. Killshot goes for a suplex, but Mariposa counters it into a stunner. She hoists him up and hits the vertebreaker/Butterfly Effect through a chair. Fox hits a pop-up C4 on Crane off the top for two. A 450 is met with boots to the face before Crane hits the cradle killer and wins. Killshot and Fox stare down before he hits an inverted curb stomp and then a double stomp off the top.

Taya shoots a documentary on PJ Black and Jack Evans with them blowing their lines. PJ is concerned about her adding in a guitar effect for his sweet air guitar. Mundo comes in and acts like a jerk to them saying that he needs them to worry about winning or they can find a new crew.

Sexy Star does shadow boxing inside a steel cage for some reason. Shockingly, lucha ninjas don’t swarm her and eat a beating. She towels off and goes to her locker, where a giant spider has been hidden.

Drago defeated Kobra Moon by DQ

Striker finds a few dozen words to describe Moon’s mannerisms before recapping the Kobra Moon/Drago rivalry. Drago outwrestles her and she seductively poses. She runs the ropes and eats a dropkick. A sick superkick sends her into the buckle before a high kick and leg sweep takes her down. He hits a modified spinning neckbreaker before landing a dominator.

She begs off and he hits a superkick before one of Kobra’s charges attacks him. He is called a rambunctious reptilian by Striker, and then Fenix and Aerostar make the save. A giant lizard man comes down and hits big boots to the babyfaces and double chokeslams them.

Between his generic big man moveset and his tattoos, he looks like a generic creation in a video game. The fans chant “Luchasaurus” at him. He hits a tombstone piledriver to Drago. Luchasaurus picks up Drago and takes him to their lair, presumably.

Backstage, Mariposa and Sexy Star exchange glances and engage in wacky combat. Star talks to her in Spanish about being tortured and she accuses her of putting the spider in her locker, but Mariposa says she didn’t. She tells her that she would never leave something like a spider in her locker — it would be a butterfly. This sure was a thing that took up time.

PJ Black defeated Jack Evans, Angelico, and Son of Havoc in a Battle of the Bulls tournament match

Jack Evans tells the fans who cheer for him that they’re right — he is goddamned great. Vampiro picks Angelico to win this in his return. The heels let the faces go to war while they rest on the floor. The faces dive on them and force them back in. The babyfaces miss corner charges, but eat shots from the heels. Vampiro says this is like a video game before Striker runs down the Konami code.

Havoc hits a springboard crossbody and a standing moonsault to Angelico that gets two. Angelico goes for a jumping snapmare, but eats a backbreaker for two. The fans chant something at Evans that is so vile that even Vampiro won’t translate it.

Angelico hits a series of slick knees and kicks to the Underground. Evans counters the corner-to-corner Razor’s Edge with a rana. Havoc hits a springboard cutter on PJ for two. Evans and Havoc fight up top before they set up a double superplex and then a tower of doom.

Havoc leaves that and dives on PJ before Angelico superplexes Evans to the floor. PJ forces Evans to eat a handspring elbow and then tells him to pin him — before cradling him to win.

Dragon Azteca Jr. tells Rey Mysterio that Matanza attacked him. Mysterio blames himself and Azteca says it was good — because now he understands why Mysterio has the mask and what his destiny is.

Mysterio tells him this isn’t a fight he can win right now, but Azteca doesn’t care about winning. Mysterio tells him that it’s his battle to fight, but Azteca defies him and says that he will kill Matanza. Good luck with that one. Mysterio facepalms knowing this is a horrible idea.

Lucha Underground results: The Battle of the Bulls begins

The show begins with a recap of the Worldwide Underground’s reign of terror — including them taking out Angelico’s leg with a car door months ago. The Cage vs. Texano best-of-five series is then recapped before we see the horribly-acted Sexy Star and Mack segment before she lost the Lucha Underground title to Johnny Mundo.

Dario Cueto is in his office signing papers before Angelico interrupts him and says he wants Mundo tonight — title or not. Dario says that he can’t do that because Mundo has lawyered up, and Angelico threatens legal action due to the beatings he received. Dario is threatened, then says that he will put Angelico in the Battle of the Bulls tournament to possibly get a shot.

Vampiro talks about the Battle of the Bulls tournament — it will be a series of fatal four-way matches with the last one being an elimination match. The winner of that match gets a title shot. Matt Striker says that one word defines Cage — power, while great defines Texano.

Famous B is booed out of the building introducing Dr. Wagner Jr. — and then gets beaten up by Cage.

Cage defeated Texano, Joey Ryan, and Dr. Wagner Jr. in a Battle of the Bulls tournament match

Wagner starts off strong with a stiff kick to Cage. Cage eats a beating from Texano before he takes a few licks from the bull rope. Joey hits a suicide dive to Wagner before Texano hits one, and then Cage moonsaults onto the pile as they just stand around for some reason.

Cage gets two off a pumphandle facebuster. An outside-in powerplex hits Wagner while Ryan dives into a jackhammer for two. Wagner and Texano backdrop Cage, and then Texano spinebusters Joey for two. Wagner lands a standing tornado DDT and an energetic dragon screw leg whip on Texano. A super cutter hits, but he can’t cover.

Joey hits a spinebuster for two. Cage catches him and charges into the corner, but Joey hits a spinning neckbreaker off the second rope for two. Cage hits a tower of doom powerbomb on the pile. Cage tosses Wagner and Famous B around at one time. Joey eats a superkick from Texano and then a sit-out powerbomb, but Cage steals the pin and wins the match.

Dario tells Sexy Star that he likes her and says she’s a fighter and the title was taken from her. He will give her a unique opportunity — a match with PJ Black, and if she wins, she’ll get a rematch.

Moreover, no one can interfere in the title match because it will be in a steel cage. However, if she loses tonight, she will never get an LU title shot again. She’s okay with this, but warns him that his troubled past could become a troubled future at her hands.

Reyes meets with his cop boss, who tells him that she doesn’t trust Mehan anymore. Reyes says that his cover is blown now and she says that he’ll return as a new man — under a mask.

Sexy Star comes out for her match with PJ Black while Striker talks about how she’s overcome all the odds and says she’s now the Princess of Power — complete with a wacky Power Rangers getup.

Sexy Star defeated PJ Black

Star hits a rana and then eats a run-up armdrag. She hits a series of forearms and kicks before hitting a rana. PJ plants her mid-ring and works on her neck. He locks on a pendulum submission before bonking her head into the buckle. Vampiro and Striker talk about how brave Star is and how you shouldn’t pity her.

PJ avoids a neck crank and hits a lift-up suplex. Star hoists him up top and slaps away at him before hitting a super rana. PJ rolls through it and hits a Styles Clash for two. He misses the top rope springboard moonsault and she lands a series of kicks before spiking him with a DDT for two. Jack Evans comes down and throws a bat in the ring, but it leads to PJ’s downfall as he’s distracted and eats a sunset flip to lose.

Kobra Moon is her in throne room talking about how great their tribe was. Pindar was one of their generals — so he should play a larger role in things and she has the two other generals of her tribe rise above her. She tells them to bring her the man who was once a dragon — so Drago is doomed.

Dario asks Matanza if he wants to be in the Battle of the Bulls tournament, but Matanza just wants Rey Mysterio. Dario tries to entice him to go after El Dragon Azteca Jr. Dario insults Matanza’s intelligence, so Matanza grabs his head and slams it into the cage before reaching for the key.

The Mack defeated Marty the Moth, Dragon Azteca Jr., and Mil Muertes in a Battle of the Bulls tournament match

Mil Muertes runs wild on everyone with heavy uppercuts. Mack and Marty punch and kick away at him before sending him to the floor. They double team Dragon Azteca with heavy chops, but Azteca holds onto Marty before Mack hits a flying knee strike. Mack rushes in and eats a kick and then a giant self-flapjack into a spinning DDT. Marty and Muertes go at it before Muertes hits 10 lariats in the corner.

Muertes hits a suicide spear onto Marty on the pile on the floor. Striker calls this a minestrone of masochism before Vampiro says he’ll need to have a word with him later. Everyone gangs up on Muertes before Azteca sends Mack flying. Muertes goes for a powerbomb, but eats a rana and a 450. Azteca doesn’t go for a cover and instead Matanza comes down and powerbombs Azteca onto Muertes.

The Wrath of the Gods from Matanza lands on Azteca before Dario comes out with a bloody towel held to his face and asks him to come back. Marty tries to steal the pin, but Mack prevents it. A running stunner hits and the Mack wins!

Lucha Underground results: Pentagon battles the Black Lotus Triad

We get a recap of the Black Lotus and Dragon Azteca Jr. drama before Dario Cueto’s announcement of the Black Lotus Tribe vs. Pentagon Dark match. Vampiro meets with Pentagon and tells him that everyone has to pay for their sins and even if he makes it out of here alive, he’ll still have hell to pay.

Pentagon gives him the zero fear hand gesture and leaves. Matt Striker talks about Pentagon Dark’s attack at the hands of the Black Lotus Tribe and says that it was Black Lotus’ revenge for Pentagon breaking her arm. Vampiro stares at him like he is a moron for verbalizing this before Striker names the Triad — Doku, Yurei, and Hidokiri.

Pentagon Dark defeated Doku

Doku comes out first and Vampiro talks about how a samurai asked a monk about heaven and hell and was told that staring into his eyes was hell. Doku lands a series of slaps, palm strikes, and chops before landing a back fist and a diving forearm in the corner. Pentagon kicks the daylights out of her before hitting the windup overhand chop.

He tosses her out while the fans chant “Cero Miedo” and he then kicks her into the guardrail. He press slams her into a snake eyes on the ring apron! Jesus! Doku spears him and hits a gorgeous flying elbow, instantly getting her over before a second elbow is met with the arm snapper. Doku got over more in one match than most of the roster has in three seasons.

Backstage, Jeremiah Crane talks to Catrina, who says it’s a shame that Ivie got hurt. She says that Crane brought her here and now she can see him in the flesh. Great, so is he a 200 year old Wiccan or something?

He’s apparently wearing a stone of hers around his neck, and she’s in love with someone else. Now he’s either got Ivie coming to kill him, Mil Muertes, or the 200 year old witch who can bring people back from the dead — he’s screwed either way.

Pentagon says the numbers don’t matter because he will break Black Lotus’ arm again.

Pentagon Dark defeated Yurei

Pentagon stretches in the corner to prepare for the match. A tumbling exchange leads to armdrags and then a flying victory roll into an armdrag by Yurei. She sends him outside and hits a standing High Fly Flow to the floor.

She tosses him into the guardrail and kicks away at the ribs before sending him head-first into the chairs. She sends him into the announce table before hitting him with the ring bell a couple of times.

She fights him up the bleachers while Striker teases a possible DQ. Really now. Pentagon saves himself briefly, but he eats a shining wizard mid-ring. A second shining wizard leads to him catching the leg and locking on a half crab before snapping back. She gets to the ropes and Pentagon keeps the attack going on the leg. A pitching chop takes Yurei down and she lands a high kick and rana off the top.

A slick double stomp hits for two. She lands a tornado DDT and goes up top for a flipping senton, but Pentagon uses that to move into the package piledriver. An arm snapper ends it.

Vampiro hypes up Hidokiri as the biggest challenge yet for Pentagon. Matanza is shown destroying things in his cell before Dario tells Matanza that he’ll get a title shot next week. Matanza roars in dissatisfaction. He wants Rey Mysterio instead and we see a question mark painted in blood on the wall.

Hidokiri defeated Pentagon Dark

Hidokiri hits a missile dropkick and then flies to the floor. She lands another suicide dive before just barely moving to avoid the railing. She grabs a chair, revs it up, and runs at Pentagon with a shot to the face. A minute in and she’s already the biggest female badass on the roster.

She undoes the mats around the ring and kicks him in the groin before cockily kicking his face and back. He wants more and she obliges. She kicks him, goes for a handspring kick, but eats a basement dropkick in the face. Pentagon lands a sick basement kick to her back. The pitching chop lands once again. He sets her up for a punt and just demolishes her face with it. He tosses her over a sea of chairs while the fans chant “holy sh*t.”

Pentagon grabs some camera cable and drags her around over his shoulder with it by the neck. He traps her against the ring post and chokes her out. He grabs a chair and hits her with it. He punts her ribs and tosses her into another sea of chairs. He lands an AA on the concrete. She tosses Pentagon into a chair before she goes up top and climbs the Temple. She hits a crossbody off the top of Dario’s office onto Pentagon, who thankfully catches her.

Striker talks about her being the first female to dive off the office. She avoids the package piledriver and beats him with the Canadian Destroyer. Black Lotus comes down for her match with Pentagon Dark.

Black Lotus defeated Pentagon Dark

The fans chant “break his arm” before Black Lotus attacks the ref and the Triad surrounds him. She tries to do the arm snapper to Pentagon and succeeds! Vampiro is overjoyed and then Dragon Azteca Jr. returns. He stares at Lotus and the Triad leaves. Azteca stomps on the now-broken arm and does the arm snapper to the non-broken arm!

Striker says that both Black Lotus and Azteca got revenge on Pentagon for breaking their arms. We get shots of candles and Vampiro with slices on his throat and face before Puma shows brief signs of life. This was an outstanding show and easily the best of the season.

Lucha Underground results: Sexy Star vs. Johnny Mundo

A recap of Matanza’s wrath over the past year is shown, followed by the saga of Dante Fox and Killshot and the debut of the Black Lotus Tribe. Johnny Mundo’s road to the title is shown while Rey Mysterio’s elimination of Matanza leads to Sexy Star’s win.

Paul London talks about the White Rabbit showing him his destiny. He engages in a kung fu battle with goons and a graphic says “they’re here!” Matt Striker talks about this being a special show because Sexy Star is the champion and tonight, she’ll face Mundo for the title.

The Rabbit Tribe comes out to get a Trios Championship shot. Vampiro talks about how drugs have led to great war and how the Rabbit Tribe is like that and takes peyote.

Trios Champions Aerostar, Drago & Fenix defeated The Rabbit Tribe

London attacks Fenix, and Saltador, the checkerboard-suited member, does a flip dive. Striker says that they got an instant title shot due to London’s reputation. Vampiro says he’ll take Striker on a “trip” one day. Mala Suerte teases a coast-to-coast kick, but they just run across the ring for a dropkick. Aerostar does a pop-up dropkick to Drago for some reason and Fenix avoids a kick.

Saltador misses a corner kick, and they high five while Striker makes a Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure joke. Aerostar armdrags Fenix into the corner-mounted heels. Kobra Moon stalks Drago from atop Dario’s office. Fenix avoids a back suplex and turns it into a victory roll with a bridge to pin Saltador. Kobra Moon cuts an angry promo on Drago and calls herself his queen.

Sexy Star and The Mack chat. Mack is a horrible actor even acting proud of his friend winning the title. Mack says that he can’t let Mundo and his goons steal the title, so he’s in her corner — but she wants to prove it’s not a fluke. Dante Fox comes out and Striker makes a reference to Clerks saying that Fox told him he “wasn’t even supposed to be here today.” Killshot is called deadly and gets a big chant.

Dante Fox defeated Killshot

Killshot avoids a punch and tackles Fox down. The bitter rivals engage in a tumbling exchange to determine the better fighter. Fox hits a suicide dive to the floor and then lands a second one. A third is met with a high kick. Fox hits a slick spinning kick before doing a shooting star press off the apron! Absolutely none of this fits his character, but it makes for a fun match.

Vampiro says that SWAT training led him to be able to do that. Fox eats a neckbreaker on the apron, which gets a “This is awesome” chant. A springboard cutter hits Killshot for two. Killshot avoids the Fox Catcher brainbuster before they break out a New Japan mid-ring forearm exchange.

Fox hits a flying kick and then a pump kick before eating a shot and then landing an elbow. Killshot has a bicep slicer on, but Fox escapes. Killshot and Fox get into a skirmish on the top rope before Killshot hits a death valley bomb on the apron off the top! Well, that was insane and the double stomp only gets two.

Killshot goes for the One Winged Angel, but a cradle counter gets two. A pop-up C4 hits and leads to the Fox Catcher and the win! This was a lot of fun, if a bit ridiculous at times. This was Fox’s singles debut, making him one of the few people to actually win in a debut match.

Mundo complains to Dario Cueto about Angelico jumping him. Dario says that if he’d known Angelico was in the building, he’d have put him in Aztec Warfare. Mundo tells Dario that he’s got his agent/lawyer on the case to ensure his restraining order on Angelico is carried out. Tonight, he’s going to focus on winning the title. Mundo and Dario call each other jerks while wacky sitcom music plays.

Black Lotus comes back into Dario’s office and tells Dario that she and the Triad want Pentagon Dark. Dario was impressed by them and Black Lotus tells him they want to show Pentagon about why their tribe is so feared.

Dario makes Pentagon face the Black Lotus Tribe next week in a gauntlet match and it won’t end until he has faced every member. Sexy Star comes down wearing her title and now brandishing a ridiculous-looking staff with a mask on it.

Johnny Mundo defeated Lucha Underground Champion Sexy Star to win the title

They face off and Star rolls around a bit. Mundo locks her in a surfboard and curb stomps her for two. Mundo kicks each leg out from under her leading to a split and then landing a PK. Mundo locks on a LeBell Lock while Striker talks about how Mundo beat Star for the GOTG Title.

Mundo locks her in a tree of woe before landing round kicks to the stomach. She lands some short-range strikes in the corner before hitting a bronco buster.

Mundo low blows her, slams her, and prepares for the End of the World. She lands a series of dropkicks before hitting an X Factor for two. Mundo lands a neckbreaker for two before locking on a sleeper. She chops her way out of trouble and a lung blower gets two. She tells Mundo to grow a pair before he hits a Russian legsweep for two.

Star avoids a Flying Chuck and hits a double stomp for a near fall. Mundo snaps the arm over the rope before stomping away. She avoids a baseball slide and kicks him into the barricade before diving onto him with a seated senton. Mundo grabs a fan’s crutch but Star kicks him and uses it.

Star helps the fan and but the fan hits her with knucks. Mundo tosses her in and hits the End of the World to win the title. Taya reveals herself as the “fan” and the show ends. Solid episode.

Lucha Underground results: Aztec Warfare III

Backstage, Dario Cueto swings his key around before Johnny Mundo interrupts him and blocks his path. Mundo says he’ll be the first to hold the LU title and Gift of the Gods title at the same time. Taya films a documentary on Mundo, who says that he is giving notice that he wants his LU title match next week if he doesn’t win Aztec Warfare tonight.

Mundo says he can win easily tonight, so Cueto turns his number 12 entry into him entering second and says it’s time for him to put up or shut up. Matt Striker talks about how the ring will “swell with humanity” tonight. Matanza comes down and Dario tells him that Mundo is now the second entrant instead of Sexy Star.

Aztec Warfare III for the Lucha Underground Championship

Mundo outfoxes Matanza to start and pokes his eye, but a flying Chuck is met with a pseudo powerbomb chokeslam. Son of Havoc comes down and double stomps Mundo’s back in a Samoan drop, resulting in Matanza being sunset flipped for two. A high/low crossbody and legsweep combo get two before Jeremiah Crane comes down. Everyone kicks Matanza to the floor and Crane hits a diving spear onto Havoc for two. Pentagon Dark comes down, leading to an ad break.

Pentagon superkicks everyone, but Mundo flips him off and then gets tossed into the corner anyway. A Tower of Doom to Mundo leads to PJ coming down and hitting a coast to coast kick that gets two on Crane.

PJ and Mundo do a variety of double team moves, ending with Mundo landing hard on his head. Mariposa comes down and gets hit with something by Crane, who then gets eliminated by Matanza’s sidewinder German suplex. A spinout uranage takes out Mariposa, then Rey Mysterio comes down as we head to commercial.

Mysterio fights off the Worldwide Underground with kicks and a DDT. Pentagon Dark and Mysterio square off while the Underground hide under the ring. Dr. Wagner Jr. comes down and he teams up with Pentagon against Mysterio.

Mysterio slingshots off the rope to armdrag them down, but Wagner hits a sliding dropkick. Matanza and Marty slug it out before Matanza is sent to the floor and eats a dive. Striker talks about this battle with his teeth clenched for some reason. Jack Evans comes down and the Underground attacks Havoc.

A double superkick and a triple-team ends it for Havoc. Sexy Star returns to face the Underground. Star eats a three-on-one beat down after the break before Evans flip dives onto Marty.

Mundo does a corkscrew off the top onto Marty before Ricky Mandel returns to eat a package piledriver. He goes to break his arm, but Black Lotus and a clan of ninjas beat him up and one hits a Canadian Destroyer — giving Mundo a win over Pentagon and then Mandel.

Mascarita Sagrada comes down to battle Matanza. A double-spin Wrath of the Gods ends him. Famous B enters at 15 and gives Mysterio his card, but Mysterio gives him a 619 instead of dialing 423 and gets the win. Marty prevents a 619 to the Underground before getting spiked off a victory roll by Mysterio and eliminated. The Mack comes down and stunners Marty. Matanza brawls with Wagner and “The Mack sends Jack onto his back!”

Joey Ryan comes down and gets compared to used toilet paper by Striker. Ryan handcuffs himself to a concrete-posted railing this year. Mack kicks Mundo before Mil Muertes comes down with Ryan in his path. Muertes rips the cuffs and tosses Ryan in to lose to a flatliner while Matanza takes out Wagner.

Matanza and Muertes engage in some clobbering before Kobra Moon returns. She hops on the announce table and Mack is tossed into the barricade. A Mack stunner takes out Evans mid-ring. A pop-up stunner takes out PJ. Drago comes out at 20 and brawls with Kobra Moon before his wacky cradle gets the win on her.

A moonsault fallaway slam takes out Drago. Everyone squares off with Matanza while the fans cheer for Mysterio. He battles Matanza, who hits a backbreaker on Mysterio before tossing him overhead. A Muertes spear, Star codebreaker, and Mack stunner hit before a flying Chuck rocks Matanza.

Mysterio hits Matanza with the 619 and a springboard dropkick leads to another one, but Matanza grabs him instead and Mysterio turns it into a Code Red to eliminate Matanza!

Matanza beats up the ref and then Mysterio. The Wrath of the Gods hits Mysterio while Mundo flips off Dario behind his back. Matanza punches Dario! Mundo pins Rey! Star cradles Mundo for two. Evans and PJ attack Star before Angelico returns by diving off the balcony onto them mid-ring!

Star covers Mundo to beat him! Mack eats a sick DDT from Muertes and gets eliminated — leaving Sexy Star to go one-on-one with Mil Muertes.

He tosses her down before grabbing a table. Muertes goes for a spear, but Star DDTs him on it. She hits him over the head a ton with the chair and gets two. He goes to spear her through the table, but she moves and gets a near fall off a schoolboy.

Muertes punches Star in the face and he puts her up top, but his super flatliner is countered and she shoves him off and pins him after a double stomp! Striker then talks about this being a moment that will stand in time.
