Lucha Underground results: Dario Cueto makes an announcement

The Big Takeaway —

Drago’s future with the Reptile Tribe moved forward in a big way, while the slow burn towards Prince Puma turning heel with Vampiro by his side continued.

There was nothing out of this world on this show, but it was a solid night of action with a very good main event that worked as both a match and a way to further a larger story.

Show Recap —

We started off with a recap of the Reptile Tribe’s torture of Drago before a rundown of All Night Long led to Dario Cueto making the sudden death round for tonight.

Rey Mysterio Jr. chatted with Prince Puma backstage as he had visions about Vampiro’s destruction of others. Vampiro appeared in ghoulish makeup to warn Mysterio.

The band played before the fans sang “Return of the Mack” for Mack. Cueto said that the winner of the first fall tonight gets the title and that it’s now falls count anywhere.

Lucha Underground Champion Johnny Mundo defeated The Mack in a sudden death falls count anywhere match to retain his title

Mack bullied him into the corner for a jumping lariat. Mack and Mundo walked and brawled for a bit before Mack hit a cannonball onto Mundo on a pile of chairs. Mundo ate a few chair shots before a twirling slam on some chairs got two for Mack.

Mundo hid in the people before Mack went to toss a chair at him, but Ricky Mandel saved him and Mundo dove on Mack for two. Mundo told Mandel to get a chainsaw, but Sexy Star attacked Mandel.

Mack got a near fall off a Sky High onto a trash can. PJ Black came in but ate a stunner. Mundo took advantage and got two before going for the End of the World — but Mack got his knees up. Taya came in and distracted Mack so Mundo could win with a sunset flip bomb to the floor onto chairs.

Matt Striker said that Cueto has an Earth-shattering announcement and he said that things like Dario’s Dial of Doom and the Battle of the Bulls have kept Lucha Underground unpredictable and violent.

Cueto said that he’s the reason for it and that the office should say Lucha Libre Genius and he has new imaginative concepts for Ultima Lucha Tres — including the Cueto Cup!

He took the trophy from Melissa Santos and told her to leave before announcing that 32 luchadores will compete in a tournament for the Cueto Cup, and the winner gets a title shot at Ultima Lucha Tres.

Cueto said that a man will get a shot on that night, but it won’t be Matanza because “two weeks ago” he was beaten up by Mysterio, so Mysterio will face Mundo on the night of the Cueto Cup Finals. 

The Reptile Tribe defeated Aerostar, Drago & Fenix

Aerostar began against Pindar, but Pindar used his power to dominate. Pindar went for a dominator, but Aerostar turned it into an armdrag. Vibora hit a pump kick off of a Pindar slingshot. Vibora sent him over with a suplex before Kobra stomped Aero on the floor. Pindar held him up for a powerslam off the top, but it was turned into a rana.

Vibora went to chokeslam Fenix off the apron, but got a tombstone on the floor instead. Drago misted Aerostar and Pindar hit a cutter, then they held him up so Drago could pin Aerostar with a splash off the top.

Kobra chained him up to remind everyone that this may have been done as an ultimatum — so it’s not quite a full heel turn.

Mandel was in Mundo’s locker room after he showered and Taya told Mundo that he’ll have to defend against Mysterio. Mandel was told to warm up the car — Mundo needs to get to his dojo ASAP. Mundo said he’s scared and she told him to put some pants on. He had the best line of the season with, “No time for pants!”

Catrina led Mil Muertes down to the ring to battle Prince Puma.

Prince Puma defeated Mil Muertes in a Boyle Heights street fight

Puma rushed him and attacked from behind with a running dropkick. Puma hit a big flip dive to a giant “Puma” chant. He set up a table, but ended up eating a spear through it immediately.

Muertes threw him into some chairs before punching and chopping away. A DDT on the floor led to Muertes getting more weapons and then fighting with street signs. Puma laid him out with a DDT and then hit a 450 off the apron. They fought up through the fans and Puma kicked away to avoid being thrown off the steps.

Muertes beat him with a shoe before fireman’s carrying him down the steps and landing a TKO. Puma tossed a trash can at Muertes before kicking away at him in the crowd and then getting tossed off the banister. Muertes tossed him into Cueto’s office, where he was polishing his trophy.

Puma used a wrench to knock Muertes down. Muertes leered at Vampiro before torturing Puma more with lariats in the corner.  Muertes hit a spinning uranage for two. Puma then landed a series of trash can lid shots before a Van Daminator with the can lid. He set Muertes up in the corner for a spinning Van Terminator for a near fall.

The 630 senton hit, but Catrina attacked him with the stone, so Vampiro gave Puma a brick, which he used to beat Muertes after blocking a spear with it.

Lucha Underground results: Mil Muertes vs. Prince Puma in Grave Consequences

Two years ago, Mil Muertes sent Konnan to his doom in this kind of match and now, he aims to end Prince Puma’s reign. Famous B also faces Mascarita Sagrada and a gigantic tag team match determines the last batch of entrants into Aztec Warfare.

A recap of the events leading to Grave Consequences starts us off. Catrina and her catsuit tell Mil to take the life from another victim in Grave Consequences – and if he fails, she won’t bring him back. The believers all have weapons for the Famous B/Mascarita Sagrada match. 

Famous B vs. Mascarita Sagrada: Believers Backlash Match

Famous B throws a drink on him before he puts a football uniform on and headbutts him in the balls. Sagrada hits a flying elbow off a step ladder despite Brenda’s protests. Brenda distracts him before B superkicks him. Famous B grabs a giant popcorn bag and gets drop toeholded on the floor, sending popcorn everywhere.

Sagrada is put into a trash can before he fights back, and then eats a kick anyway. Brenda hands Famous B the wizard wand and hat, which he throws out since he knows they’ll do nothing.

Famous B grabs a toolbox and finds an atomizer full of Arrogance, leading to a “Rick The Model” chant. Sagrada grabs the atomizer and sprays him. Famous B is down in the corner, so Sagrada dons the wizard hat and magic wand, and turns whatever was in a gym bag into a bowling ball….which goes into to the testicular region of Famous B.

Dr. Wagner comes out in gym pants to shove the magic wand-using mini off the top rope. He wants to smash Sagrada with a painting, but it’s of B, so he prevents that.

Son of Havoc makes a save and sends Wagner packing. He goes to escape, but Sagrada chokes him with his tie until Brenda uses Melissa’s large pair of novelty scissors to make the save.

Brenda congratulates herself for accomplishing the Herculean task of using a pair of scissors. Sagrada flip dives onto B before hitting Brenda with a pie to the face leading to “Creampie for the beautiful Brenda!” by Striker. B gets a shoe, but takes it to the face and a flying DDT wins it.  They cut the giant 423-GET-FAME sign and decapitate the image of B.

Backstage, Killshot talks to Dante and they share a long, awkward hug. Drago trains with his nunchuks in the bathroom. Kobra Moon jumps him and they get into a wacky kung fu battle. They argue before Vinny Masarro comes in and farts.

Aztec Warfare qualifier: The Mack, Mariposa, Marty the Moth, Ivelisse, and Jeremiah Crane vs. Killshot, Argenis, Dante Fox, Texano, and “They Call Him” Cage

Crane hits a pump kick to Fox in the corner, but he gets a second-rope springboard cutter. Killshot flies in and eats a knee from Crane. Crane and Ivie invite Killshot to a superkick party before he tosses her into Killshot with a rana. Cage hits a big lariat and lifts up Ivie, who escapes and tags in Marty. Texano hits a slick spinebuster to Marty.

Dante and Killshot briefly team up before arguing and then diving outside. Killshot tosses Ivie up and she lands awkwardly on a rana. Dante hits a wacky brainbuster to give Marty the win. Everyone on the team goes into Aztec Warfare.

Dario tells Matanza that he will he defend the title next week and says that their father trained him for this. We get another layer of the back story and Matanza says his first word. WAR! Mil Muertes comes down, but gets jumped by Prince Puma.

Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes – Grave Consequences

Muertes overcomes the sneak attack and hits a big right hand. Muertes tosses him into a sea of empty chairs and then into a red-lit room through a door. Puma carries the kick-ass casket around, but gets slugged and power bombed onto it. Mil grabs a table and sets that up in the corner. A chair to the back leads to Striker going with some bizarre teeth-gritting performance to get across the pain.

Puma hops up to avoid a spear in the corner, leading to Mil hitting a corner-set chair. However, he can’t hop up and eats a spear through the corner table. 

Mil undoes the turnbuckle hook and smashes Puma’s head with it. Mil takes the casket into the ring and puts it on the Aztec symbol before hitting a series of lariats in the corner. Puma hits a flying knee and then a series of kicks before tornado kicking him onto the casket. 450 ON THE CASKET!

Mil gets the lid shut on his head a few times before Puma grabs the chair. Vamp points out that Puma is no longer trying to win — he’s trying to hurt him, and sounds overjoyed. 

Mil hoists him up in a nasty-looking chokeslam onto the casket. Mil tosses him into it, but Puma holds on and won’t let him shut the lid. Puma avoids the flatliner and kicks him! Puma goes for a suicide dive, but eats a right fist to the jaw in one of the best-timed spots of the year. Puma recovers, sends him onto a pair of tables and goes up top, but Mil meets him and they get into a top rope slugfest.

Puma brings kicks to a boxing match and wins that – but nearly falls. Mil takes advantage of this and chokeslams him off the top through the tables to the floor!

Mil brings out the casket that he used for Konnan back in season one and puts it in the ring, then on wheels. Puma eats a flatliner on the floor and carries him into the casket to win. Vampiro has a large smirk on his face while Mil comes in to the ring and pounds the Aztec symbol. The procession takes Puma to the afterlife.

This wasn’t much of a show until the great main event.

Lucha Underground results: Mil Muertes vs. Prince Puma

The opening highlight video showcases Vampiro’s mentorship for Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo’s issues with Dario Cueto giving everyone but him title shots. A Dario’s Dial of Doom recap leads to Mil Muertes’ interference and hype for tonight’s Puma vs. Muertes main event.

Vampiro meets with Puma, who tells him he doesn’t want anything to do with him. He doesn’t want his help. Vampiro tells him that Muertes will die by Puma’s hands, and Puma growls.

Slapbak is the house band tonight and Matt Striker hypes up the main event. Matanza is mid-ring, which means it’s time for Dario’s Dial of Doom. Killshot gets the nod tonight and Dario tells him to be ready for war. It’s a bit odd for this fighting champion deal to be given to a lead heel who kills and eats people, but it kind of works.

Lucha Underground Champion Matanza defeated Killshot

Killshot has a bandage on his lower back, so either he had a kidney stolen or he got sliced up a bit in his last match. Matanza lands a series of short-arm lariats and crossfaces him on the mat. A fallaway suplex by Matanza sends him across the ring. Killshot dives into a series of backbreakers from Matanza, but Killshot spins his wrist to escape before eating a headbutt. A rewind German suplex hits and sends Killshot to the floor. 

Matanza rushes into the corner and eats a boot and then an enzuigiri. Matanza goes up for a super tombstone, but he gets kicked down and hit with a DDT. Killshot goes for a dive, but eats a Cesaro-esque flying uppercut. A Wrath of the Gods powerslam hits and gives Matanza the win. Killshot gets a standing ovation before AR Fox comes in with dog tags and Killshot is amazed. Killshot hugs him, but eats a jumping kick and a nasty fisherman buster. Fox throws his dog tags on Killshot while Striker talks in somber tones.

The White Rabbits will be here soon. Fenix, Aerostar, and Drago come down for a trios title match against a mystery team. Dario says that in four weeks, we will get the return of Aztec Warfare! This gets an instant chant, and Dario says that no one has come close to Matanza. He doesn’t think anyone on the roster can beat him.

Matanza will now defend the title in Aztec Warfare. He will be entered in at number one while Fenix will be number 20 — but with a catch. There will be a three-way trios match with Fenix, Aerostar, and Drago against each other and the winner gets the chance to be number 20 while the losers are out of Aztec Warfare.

Drago defeated Fenix and Aerostar in a triple threat match and will enter at #20 in Aztec Warfare

Fenix stands on the apron while Aerostar and Drago shake hands mid-ring. Drago and Aerostar fly around a bit with arm drags. Fenix comes in, but eats a flying palm strike. Aerostar flips off the rope to avoid a double arm drag over the top and lands an arm drag to Drago. Fenix superkicks the neck and then eats a crossbody off the top by Drago. Fenix gets his nose smashed during that and eats a flip dive from Aerostar.  

Fenix hits a Bullhammer and then a German suplex gets two. Fenix catches Aerostar off a dive, but eats a DDT for two. Drago hits a flying arm drag to Aerostar off the top before eating a mushroom stomp off the top by Fenix.

Everyone chops each other before Fenix eats a double chop. Fenix has Drago in a partial Muta lock before Aerostar locks on a deja vu octopus stretch. Fenix escapes and hits a flying boot in the corner, but gets tossed into another one by Drago. A rewind rana hits Fenix! Drago hits the Blockbuster Destroyer and wins it.

Puma vs. Muertes is hyped up next.

In the bathroom, Kobra Moon slithers in to meet Drago and tells him to take the title back to their tribe. Some dude walks in eating a burrito and says he thought it was a men’s room. Mundo comes into Dario’s office, and he is just exhausted by this annoying man bothering him every show.

Mundo says that he is desperate now — so he gives him his $100,000 back — well, $94,000 after he had to pay someone off. Dario takes his money and gives him a shot against Sexy Star and the Gift of the Gods title.

Prince Puma defeated Mil Muertes

Puma slugs away and goes for a backflip headscissors, but gets kneed in the gut. Muertes goes for a suicide spear, but Puma avoids it and dives to the floor. A dive follows up perfectly. Muertes goes to toss him into the barricade, Puma runs up it and then runs back, but he eats a spear.

Muertes hits him with a chair in the gut and then the back. They fight in the crowd before Muertes just clubs him down on the bleachers. Muertes goes back down, but eats a crossbody off the bleachers by Puma.

Puma goes for the 630, but eats a snap powerslam for two. Puma goes for a tornado kick, but Muertes just punches the daylights out of him. A chokeslam gets two for Muertes. He goes for a flatliner, but Puma elbows him, superkicks him, and goes for a tornado kick, but he gets hoisted up and tossed into the corner before a chain of lariats. Puma sends him down and hits the 630 to win! 

Backstage, Rey Mysterio Jr. tells Chavo Guerrero Sr. that he loves his son, but what should he do about him? Chavo tells him that the Guerrero dynasty won’t end with his son and he asks Mysterio if it’s the only way. Mysterio tells him that it’s one or the other — one of them must leave the Temple.

Season three has been rocky so far, but that was easily the best episode of the season.

Lucha Underground’s first house show tour gets dates, big sponsor

Cricket Wireless announced Friday that they will be sponsoring the first Lucha Underground house show tour with events scheduled for October 23rd in Phoenix, AZ, October 30th in Houston, TX, and November 5th in San Diego, CA.

The current issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter discussed the tour and some of my thoughts on it.

To me, it’s kind of crazy to announce the Phoenix show at this late of a date. Additionally, no venues nor lineups have been announced for the shows.

As of today, the only thing we know is that Rey Mysterio Jr. and Prince Puma (Ricochet) were being pushed as the top stars in the original plans, but Puma will be in Japan for all three dates. Coincidentally, Mysterio is booked for Japan next week as well but that’s just on October 26th, so he should be able to work the LU dates.

We’re told different talents will be at different shows as opposed to having the same card done all three nights.

Lucha Underground results: Prince Puma vs. Matanza title match

The show begins with a recap of the Dial of Doom and Vampiro leading Puma to the dark side. Catrina killing Sinestro is shown, as is the Ultimate Opportunity match leading to the best of five series. Dario comes out to a “jefe!” chant and says it’s time for everyone’s favorite game show: Dario’s Dial of Doom!

Prince Puma gets a shot tonight, showing that the dial actually can lead to exciting matches that should make Matanza seem like he’s in danger. Striker makes monkey jokes about house band The Chimpz, leading to Vamp doing an excellent facepalm. Ivelisse comes out and is called a one of a kind by Vamp.

Ivelisee vs. Mariposa

Mariposa outwrestles Ivie to start, but Ivie gets an armdrag and a lariat to gain control. Mariposa slams her and lands a power drive elbow for 2. Mariposa locks on a sick-looking kneeling sharpshooter/Indian deathlock, but Ivie gets to the ropes. Ivie lands a discus forearm and gets 2 off a crossbody. Ivie kicks her and goes for a Code Red, but Mariposa gets 2 off a Samoan drop. Ivie finally lands the Code Red to win it. Marty puts the boots to her post-match.

– Dario talks on the Batphone and says that Matanza is a god who won’t be beaten tonight. Mundo complains about Puma getting a shot. Dario says it was fate and Mundo says that his abs aren’t fate — they’re from hard work. Mundo says he wants the LU Title, but he can’t get that, so he’ll settle for the Gift of the Gods Title since Sexy was beaten last week. Dario says she was, but Jack got the win so he faces her tonight for the title.

A creepy video says “They’ll be here soon”, but I’m guessing Sanity isn’t going to be on both NXT and Lucha Underground.

Texano vs. Cage – Best of Five Series, match two

Cage gets a shoulder tackle to start, but he eats a flip dive. Vamp says that this series could change the history of the sport. Texano slams him on the floor before posting him. Cage goes for a powerplex, but Texano avoids it and then misses a flip into the ring. Cage gets 2 off a small package and lands a neckbreaker while the fans slam the barricades to the tune of The Terminator. Cage powerslams him and hits a second rope moonsault for 2. Texano hits the Tye Breaker for 2. Cage hits a sitout Alabama Slam for 2. Texano’s superkick gets 2, but Cage gets the powerplex and wins with the Lucha Destroyer/F5. 

– Sami Callihan debuts as Ivie’s boyfriend and says he’s sorry and figured she’d main event. She gets upset about him treating her like she’s weak, so she just wants to go home. He takes a swig out of his flask.

Melissa Santos is mid-ring to introduce the main event. Striker says this match is what the company is all about, while Vamp says Puma was the man, but he’s broken and needs to do something different.

Lucha Underground Champion Matanza Cueto vs. Prince Puma

Puma darts at him with a pump kick, but eats a clubbing blow. Puma hits a triangle dropkick that sends Matanza to the floor and lands a PK off the apron before hitting a shooting star to the floor. Matanza smashes him into the announce table, but he gets smashed into the barricade. Matanza tosses him into the ring, but eats a palm strike before landing an overhead belly to belly.

Matanza lands a series of shoulder charges in the corner as Dario goes “Yes!” to every one of them. Matanza charges into him and sends him flying. Matanza lands a series of backbreakers, but misses a corner charge and eats a 619. Puma goes for a Regalplex, but Matanza powers out and gets the Karelin lift German suplex.

Matanza hits one avalanche in the corner, but gets caught on another and Puma carries him mid-ring and hits the Northern lights>brainbuster combo for 2!

Puma goes for a high kick, but gets caught in a capture suplex and powerbombed for 2. Puma lands a superkick and turns a Wrath of the Gods into a DDT! A spinkick, pump knee, and tornado kick send Matanza down into position for the 630. It lands, but Muertes spears him! Marty Elias wants to call a DQ, but Dario tells him not to. Catrina saunters down and Mil flattens Puma with the flatliner. She raises the stone high and Mil leaves before Matanza hits the Wrath of the Gods and retains with a pin.

This was an outstanding match by the end. It took a while to get going, but they made everyone here look outstanding.

– Backstage, Killshot works out but is interrupted by Joey Ryan. Joey gives him an envelope and says some guy left it for him. Killshot asks for a description, but Joey says he’s not a detective. Killshot opens the envelope to reveal a piece of paper reading  “You left me for dead.”

Lucha Underground Ultima Lucha Dos pt. 3 results: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Prince Puma

The show begins with a recap of season two’s big events, including Vampiro being on medication, the rise of Rey Mysterio Jr., and the possible fall of Dario Cueto’s empire.

Backstage, Vampiro asks Pentagon Jr. if he’s ready and Pentagon says yes. Vampiro says he sees fear and must destroy the man who was destroyed. He sends Pentagon into a cave, where there are many versions of Pentagon, who all get their asses kicked.

Vampiro tells him to find the darkness within, and then gets destroyed by Pentagon, who is now Pentagon Dark. The trios title match is our opener tonight.

Aerostar, Drago, & Fenix vs. Trios Champions Johnny Mundo, PJ Black, & Jack Evans for the titles

Drago lands some slick kicks and a big DDT. Mundo is legal, but Black runs in and misses a moonsault. Aerostar hits a corkscrew dive mid-ring and a double jump corkscrew dive. Evans gets a hot shot and thumbs Aerostar in the ass.

Tons of flying gets stopped by the heels slowing things down and cheating a bit, then Evans hits a running nut shot to Fenix. Aerostar hits a Mexican destroyer off the top to Mundo and then dives off of Fenix onto the pile on the floor. A Fenix frog splash gets two and Mundo fouls him.

Belt shots aplenty for the heels, who celebrate far too early and play air guitar while actual guitar plays in the background. Another belt shot gets a near fall for the heels. Angelico returns and crotches Mundo, while Black gets kicked outside and eats a big dive.

Flying trust fall by Aerostar takes out Black and Evans. Angelico breaks a crutch on Mundo and Fenix hits the Fenix Driver to win it! Fenix is now the first triple crown champion in company history.

Black Lotus vs. Dragon Azteca Jr.

Lotus uses her speed to pull Azteca down by his mask and hits an armdrag. Azteca hits a big kick on the apron, but misses a flip dive and eats an enzuigiri. Azteca responds by tossing her hard into the barricade. She is tossed in and hits a basement dropkick, then a series of kicks.

Azteca goes up top, but Pentagon Dark comes down in new all-black gear and threatens to snap her arm. He does it before doing the same to Azteca. Vampiro says this is the formal introduction for Pentagon Dark, and it’s a great way to have him regain his season one badass vibe.

Pentagon Dark says he is here to destroy. And he has destroyed Ian and brought Vampiro back. Pentagon Jr. is dead and has been replaced by Pentagon Dark. He swears to destroy Matanza Cueto tonight. This ruled!

It is now time for the Lucha Underground title match, as Dario brings Matanza down.

Pentagon Dark vs. Lucha Underground Champion Matanza Cueto for the title

Pentagon brings the fight and chops away on the floor before kicking Matanza down. Matt Striker talks about Pentagon Jr. being destroyed by Matanza, before Vampiro says he is dark now. Pentagon hits an AA on the floor. Holy smokes, that looked tough to hoist that big mutha up.

Pentagon chops the daylights out of his chest, then more leg kicks. Matanza charges the post but misses. Pentagon chops away and gets a chair from Vampiro, before playing it like LA Park and hitting him in the back.

Dario yells at Matanza to recover for the family. Matanza tries to reverse a whip into the chairs, but that gets reversed and Striker hypes up how no one has done what Pentagon Dark has done so far.

Matanza gets tossed into more chairs, damn are they ever putting this character change over perfectly. Matanza is literally a murderer in this story, but Pentagon Dark has found a place inside him that allows him to dismantle Matanza.

Pentagon sets him up for shattered dreams, but he hits a monkey flip , it’s a shame too since Striker’s “monster’s balls” line was on point. Matanza finally gets something going after tossing his head into a corner-mounted chair. Matanza hits a standing moonsault and then a standing shooting star press for two.

Rewind German suplex gets nothing because shoulders aren’t down. Matanza hits a backflip fallaway slam for two. Pentagon grabs another chair and smacks Matanza’s head.

Pentagon hops off the second rope into a Mexican destroyer before Vampiro casually shows off a barb wire bat. Dario pushes Pentagon out of the way to avoid the bat shot and Pentagon tries to snap his arm, but Matanza hits him with the bat. Wrath of the Gods wins it for Matanza! Vampiro comes in but gets shoved off. 

Taya vs. Ivelisse

Ivelisse dominates in the corner with forearms but gets tripped on the apron. Taya gets chucked into a chair and kicked at. They fight on the barricade and Ivelisse dives off of it onto Taya. They go back into the ring after a ton of brawling in the crowd.

Ivelisse hits a snap German suplex and a sunset flip bomb, but the lights go out and Catrina shows up. Catrina has a new look and hits Madison Rayne’s Rayne Drop, then Taya hits a northern lights suplex and a double stomp to win.

Prince Puma’s history is recapped from episode one with Konnan putting him over. Rey Mysterio Jr. comes out in his El Rey gear that he also wore at URFight, while Puma is in darker black, red, and yellow gear.

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Prince Puma

Puma’s tumbling exchange around Mysterio keeps the speed fast while Mysterio can stay fairly grounded. Mysterio gets a brief edge off an armdrag and they staredown. Mysterio goes for a spinning headscissors, but Puma flips out of it!

They mirror each other with kicks, but Mysterio gets a sick running kick for two. Mysterio goes for a deja vu rana, but Puma holds on and does a double knee gutbuster, then locks on a sick standing bow and arrow.

Mysterio sends him over the top with a headscissors, where they roll, and then Mysterio sends him into the ring apron with another headscissors. Mysterio gets the slip’n slide dive to the floor. Mysterio gets the Thesz press off the top and gets two off a second rope crossbody.

Puma elbows him, but eats a modified 619, then Puma gets the northern lights suplex and the brainbuster for two. They fight up top and Mysterio hits a rewind rana. It’s amazing to see him bust out new stuff at this point.

That only gets two, which Vampiro says is due to him not hooking a leg. Puma lands some European uppercuts, while Mysterio goes for the wheelbarrow bulldog that Puma turns it into a lumbar check and a blue thunder bomb for two!

Puma ducks a 619 and gets tons of boos when he puts Mysterio into the 619 position. The 323 hits and Puma follows it up with a springboard 450 for two! Puma hits the modified GTS and gets two. Corner dropkick hits, but Puma misses the 630 after giving Mysterio a moment to heal.

Mysterio hits a snap rana for two, then hits a 619, and wins with the springboard rana! 

Striker sends the show off before Pentagon Dark hits Vampiro with the bat and superkicks Striker. Vampiro gets sliced open with the bat and Pentagon throws him into the ring to say that he is the new master. He licks Vampiro’s blood and says it feeds him before KOing Vampiro with a basement dropkick.

Vampiro is left bloody, but before the show goes off the air, the cops take Dario away.

This wasn’t quite as amazing as the original Ultima Lucha show, even with it having four hours of content instead of three. 

Mysterio vs. Puma was outstanding, but everything else was largely just there outside of Pentagon Dark vs. Matanza standing out as a great hardcore brawl, though it was hurt by the season having tons of them.

Lucha Underground Ultima Lucha Dos Part One results: Son of Havoc steals the show; a legend debuts

Last year, Ultima Lucha was a three hour event spread over two shows. This year, it’s a three hour show spread over three weeks – so they’re not sacrificing any content time and hopefully spreading the rating out over three weeks instead of two.

The show begins with a recap of Dario Cueto announcing the Unique Opportunity Tournament for a unique opportunity.

A new Ultima Lucha Dos graphic adorns the lower left-hand side of the screen and we see poster banners running down the card. They should really sell shirts of those, or replicas, via their official storefronts on either the official site or ProWrestlingTees.

Striker and Vamp run down the tournament for a unique opportunity – which will have its semi-finals tonight. The Mack vs. Cage is set up, and Dario says that they started last year’s show off with a falls count anywhere match. Tonight, he wants last year’s success to be replicated, so this is now a falls count anywhere match too.

The Mack vs. Cage – Falls Count Anywhere

Cage hits a McGillicutter for a 2 count off a standing moonsault. Mack hits a Rainmaker elbow smash, but eats a back elbow. He recovers with a superkick leading to Cage being draped in the rope and hit with a body block to the floor.

Mack gets hip tossed into the bleachers. Jeez. A minute in and they’re already taking bumps that make the Final Deletion look a bit tame. Cage gets a trash can, but Mack powerslams Cage on it for 2. 

They fight in Dario’s office while Dario and Black Lotus look on. Cage grabs a framed poster of the LU logo and smashes it over Mack’s head for 2. Vamp says the boss looks dope in a tux and says he’s got a big key.

The fans beat on the barricades like a war drum while Cage sets up a steel chair bridge and powerbombs Mack through it for 2. Mack hits a running Samoan drop on a stop sign for 2. Mack has a Mexican flag guitar and smashes it on Cage’s head for 2, since this isn’t a Jeff Jarrett match. Mack grabs pinatas, which Striker says are for the show’s after party.

A “pinata” chant breaks out. Mack’s pinata has a wrench, while Cage’s has candy. Vamp mocks a guy for knocking kids over to grab the candy.

Mack gets some beers from another pinata and drinks them, but the stunner is blocked and he’s tossed into the apron where he eats a shot to the head.

Cage sets up a table, but Mack hits him in the balls and then with a toolbox to the head. Chain to the head of Cage leads to more beers, some stunners, and Striker doing a Steve Austin impression.

Between this and the Final Deletion, pro wrestling is clearly a bit weird.

Mack climbs up top after putting Cage on a table and hits a frog splash off the balcony through the table. And it gets a 2 count. That justifiably gets a holy shit chant.

Cage goes for his cement block curb stomp ala last year, but he slips on the beer and Mack gets the schoolboy for the win.

This was weird, but a lot of fun and well worth watching.

Texano and Son of Havoc are mid-ring for their match. Dario says that the fans must wonder why we’ve got a bar set up outside the ring – but when he sees a cowboy and a biker, he thinks of bars – so he’s making this a Boyle Heights Bar Fight.

Texano vs. Son of Havoc – Bar Fight

This bar fight begins like many others – with a tie-up and then a side headlock toss-off into the ropes before a dropdown into a leapfrog exchange.

Havoc side-steps him and Texano flies over the top. Havoc hits an Asai moonsault on the floor, but misses a Muta handspring elbow against the barricade. Havoc recovers and hits a moonsault off the announce table and tosses him through a door, drawing yet another holy shit chant.

Havoc has a helmet and fire extinguisher – leading to Striker mentioning Firebreaker Chip and then a blast to the face by Havoc. Havoc eats a headshot, but the helmet absorbs the blow – so Texano hits him more before tossing bar stools into the ring.

Texano puts a keg in the corner while a “we want beer” chant breaks out. Rope-assisted punch gets 2 for Texano. Havoc punches him and dropkicks his back into the keg. Havoc sets up a pile of wood from the bar stools before hitting a rana off the top onto the pile for 2.

Vamp says that Dario spent all his money on his tux and none on the furniture since the stools broke so easily.

Havoc is set up in the corner and hits a chair into Havoc’s balls. Havoc recovers and backdrops him onto a row of bar glasses. Havoc sets up glass in the ring and double stomps his chest into it before pump kicking him into it for the win.

Well, that was full of nasty bumps for a match that had no real grudge – but it was fun.

The Voodoo Glow Skulls play us in after those two wars while Striker runs down the next two weeks of matches.

It’s now time for the finals of the Unique Opportunity tournament as The Mack battles Son of Havoc. Striker talks about how exhausted each guy has to be. Dario says he is surprised that they won, so he is impressed – but he wants this to be a falls count anywhere match as well.

Son of Havoc vs. Mack – Unique Opportunity Falls Count Anywhere Match

They go back and forth with headlocks and Mack tosses him into the ropes for a Pounce. Huge splash gets 2 for Mack. Mack takes him to the floor and punches him before tossing him into the barricade.

Havoc chops him before hip tossing him into the bleachers. Mack avoids a corner charge and hits a sitting European uppercut, then hits an Irish Curse and a twisting flatliner off the ropes for 2.

Havoc low bridges him and hits a twisting moonsault to the floor. He tosses him in for an SSP, but Mack gets hid knees up and gets 2 off a cradle. Mack avoids a corner elbow and hits a corner charge.

Mack misses a charge, eats a Muta elbow and a SSP gets the win for Havoc. That was quite subdued compared to the craziness earlier – so it was good in that sense, but also a bit hard to care about since so much came before.

Dario congratulates Son of Havoc and shows off a briefcase with $250,000 of Dario Cueto-faced money.

If he wants the cash, it’s his – but there’s a twist. He can turn in the case for a contract giving him a Lucha Underground Title match at Ultima Lucha Tres. Havoc tells him he doesn’t care about the money – he wants the title. Dario says he’ll be in the main event of Ultima Lucha Tres – if he wins one more match.

The next match determines Havoc’s fate. His opponent here can win the money, while Havoc gets the title shot if he wins. Famous B comes down and says he has a new client – and his client is already famous. He says Havoc feels sick – so it’s a good thing there’s a doctor in the house. Dr. Wagner Jr. comes down to face Son of Havoc and gets a huge “ole” chant as he walks down the steps.

Son of Havoc vs. Dr. Wagner Jr. – Title Shot vs. $250,000

Wagner hits a snap Samoan drop and forearms Havoc in the corner. Wagner hits a corner charge lariat and hits a super RKO before posing arrogantly.

Vamp says that Dr. Wagner Jr. drop kicked his busted leg to hurt him when he came back in Mexico. Havoc lands a series of lariats before a pump kick sends him down. The SSP misses and the Doctor Driver wins it – so Havoc now gets neither the money or title shot.

Dr. Wagner Jr. takes down the straps and poses, while Famous B and Brenda celebrate with the money. Famous B puts on a stethoscope and checks Havoc’s chest for a heartbeat. 

Well, this was a stellar show overall. In terms of match style, Havoc vs. Mack should have opened the show – but that wouldn’t have worked for the story being told.

Havoc really shined throughout the night and for the first time, they really did put you on a journey with his character. Dr. Wagner Jr. was given almost no time to get over – with his match starting 55 minutes into the hour-long broadcast and yet still managed to do so.

With a handful of moves and even fewer mannerisms, you got that he was a cocky veteran who was exactly as good as he thinks he is, and now the 30-year veteran can lay claim to winning a main event on Ultima Lucha throughout season three.

Lucha Underground results: Johnny Mundo vs. Fenix; Prince Puma vs. Dragon Azteca Jr.

The road to Ultima Lucha Dos has been paved over the past few weeks, and with that show one week away, the card should take shape tonight. We see the death and rebirth of Mil Muertes and last week’s Rey vs. Puma challenge. Vamp says that he’s half out of his mind with excitement over Ultima Lucha Dos.

Striker says that the LU version of the Super Friends of Drago, Fenix, and Aerostar face Mundo, PJ Black, and Jack Evans tonight while Prince Puma faces his other former Trios Championship partner El Dragon Azteca. Next week’s show is run down and we’ll get Mil Muertes vs. King Cuerno to start things off tonight. Cuerno flexes his pecs to the “Cuerno, Cuerno!” chant. Mil shoves the cameraman away and we’re underway.

King Cuerno vs. Mil Muertes

Mil drops down and goes for a tiltawhirl, but Mil hits a big kick to the gut and a spear to the spine. Mil stomps the groinal region, or as Vamp says “he stomped him right in the balls!”. Cuerno hits a boot, but eats a big lariat for 2. Mil hits a huge swinging chokeslam ala The Giant for 2. Mil is sent to the floor and eats a baseball slide and then the Arrow of Death hits! Ref is taken out with it and Cuerno grabs a chair and hits him in the head, but it’s no-sold and Mil punches his lights out!

Mil slams the back with a chair and he sets the chair up in the corner. Cuerno avoids a corner spear and Mil hits the chair and eats a schoolboy with the ropes held to give Cuerno the win. This was short, but fantastic while it lasted. 

Dario meets with Taya and Ivelisse and puts them over for being tough – but says there can only be one baddest bitch in the building. At Ultima Lucha, they will determine who deserves that title most. Catrina walks in and wishes Ivie luck and she wants a rematch against Cuerno for the show. He says that she took over his temple, took over his office, tried to destroy his brother and says that their issue over a dented casket involves a funeral home – not him.

Catrina says they want a death match and Dario says he hates her – but she knows what to say to excite him, so it’s on and then she disappears. Puma walks down and then Rey brings Azteca down with him.

Prince Puma vs. El Dragon Azteca Jr.

Puma chops him and we get a tumbling exchange before a sunset flip leads to spinning and a legsweep gets 1. Back and forth armdrags lead a staredown. They shake, but Puma won’t let go – so Azteca hits a pair of chops and slaps him. Puma slides over Azteca, who hops up and kicks him before eating a snake eyes against the post.

This is a crazy-fast match – holy smokes! Puma gets a dueling chant and lands a European uppercut before eating a pop-up springboard rana. Puma gets crotched and chops him on top before hitting a springboard rana for 2. Puma hits a forearm shiver and then eats a running forearm from Azteca. Azteca hits a DDTJ for 2.

They exchange waistlocks and Puma traps him in the corner and hits a pop-up blue thunder bomb into a Northern Lights and then into a brainbuster for 2! Puma goes for the 630, but takes too long and Azteca crotches him up top. Azteca hits a super victory roll for 2! Azteca flows through a missed 450 but eats a belly to belly into the buckle! A spinning Benadryller gets 2!

A corner hesitation dropkick hits for Puma, leading to the 630 as he stares at Rey and gets the win. This was fantastic and easily Azteca’s best match to date. Puma says that will be Rey next week and slaps him.

Cage, Texano, The Mack, and Son of Havoc are mid-ring with Dario. He says that he feels like a kid on Christmas and it’s time for one of them to get a gift from him for Ultima Lucha Dos. He says they will be entered into the Unique Opportunity Tournament for a Unique Opportunity because they have a shot at a unique opportunity! The winner gets a Unique Opportunity and he tells them to rest up because their match is next! Or not….they brawl and Cage hits a big lariat on Texano on the apron.

This was poorly explained, but amusing thanks to Dario. Ultima Lucha Dos’ card is recapped, with everything run through so far along with the Gift of the Gods Title match. Matanza’s path of rage is recapped and we see a rundown of his issues with Pentagon Jr. Fenix comes out in new orange and black gear that looks slick. Mundo comes out and Vamp marks out over Mundo’s jacket and talks about how he helped Mundo put on his headband.

Fenix vs. Johnny Mundo

Fenix slaps Mundo and gets a standing moonsault for 1. Mundo’s basement knee strike gets 2 before a set of mounted forearms. Fenix machine gun chops him before cutting him out and then running chopping him. Fenix runs into a C4 for 2. Mundo chinlocks him, but eats knees. Mundo hits a hard spinebuster for 2. Mundo grinds his boot into the face – blocking the ref’s view from Taya choking him.

Fenix flips onto them while a dueling Lucha/Let’s Go Fenix chant breaks out. Fenix hits a diving chop to the fallen Mundo before hitting a big boot and a chest chop before a jumping Yakuza kick in the corner! A sunset flip powerbomb gets 2 for Fenix!

Taya holds Fenix up and he gets kicked – but lands on his feet before a Moonlight Drive gets 2. Fenix avoids the End of the World and lands a palm strike before a C4 off the top – but Taya has the ref distracted. Mundo grabs a Trios Title hits Fenix with it for the win – marking the first time this decade that a belt shot ends a match. I love that – it’s such a cliche for a nearfall now, and I like seeing it actually get a win so it matters again.

PJ and Evans come down to celebrate and play air guitar while Vamp describes Taya in a fairly unfattering manner. Drago and Aerostar come down, and then Ivie comes down to battle Taya. The faces clear the ring and we hear that Ultima Lucha Dos will be a three week event that starts next week.

Lucha Underground results: Rey Mysterio and Prince Puma confrontation

The episode begins with a recap of the importance of the Gift of the Gods Title, Cage’s win and then cash-in against Matanza that led to Matanza retaining. We see the history of Famous B and Mascarita Sagrada and the Black Lotus-Dragon Azteca Jr. feud. Dario meets with a new luchador – Night Claw, who will compete in a medallion match to determine who gets a Gift of the Gods match at Ultima Lucha Dos.

Dario gives Night Claw a history lesson about his jaguar tribe being destroyed, and Night Claw cuts a promo with a wacky voice filter about being on top of LU and Dario tells him to not be overconfident.

The Voodoo Glow Skulls sing ‘Revenge of the Nerds” while fans dance back and forth. Striker says that the “new luchador” debuts at Ultima Lucha Dos, and will compete for one medallion while the others will be on the line tonight. Daga is mid-ring and gets a “Daga” chant while Famous B interrupts Melissa and gets a “423-GET-FAME!” chant. Brenda brings Sagrada down while his epic theme plays.

Daga vs. Mascarita Sagrada – Medallion Match

Daga tosses him across the ring while Vamp talks about how Kobra Moon is stalking Daga from atop Dario’s office. DON’T STAND THERE – BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN. Brenda cheers on Mascerita while Vamp buries her for having an annoying voice. A one-footed dropkick gets 2 for Daga. Sagrada gets a rana cradle for 2. We get a shot of Kobra and Daga tosses Sagrada high in the air. A Russian Legsweep into a crossface gets a tap – but Daga keeps moving and the ref can’t see it.

Finally, the ref sees it and stops things long after they should’ve been stopped. Maybe it was just an homage to PRIDE. Brenda gives Sagrada a big kiss resulting in comedic lips appearing on his mask, and Famous B kicks his ass with his shoe before telling Brenda to go get it. It’s amazing how he went from the biggest babyface to a huge heel in no time. Striker says that the next match will be for three medallions. 

Dario talks to Dragon Azteca Jr. about how his brother didn’t kill El Dragon Azteca. Azteca calls him a liar, and Dario says that Black Lotus will destroy the Azteca mask by beating him. “When you look into her eyes, you will see the eyes of your mentor’s killer”. The Crew and Joey Ryan walk down the aisle and Striker talks about how he shoves himself down everyone’s chest and Vamp says he doesn’t want to wrestle someone with a very oily chest. Marty tells Killshot to hang on and not kill him and offers him his dogtags back as a show of unity for tonight.

The Crew & Joey Ryan vs. Killshot, Sinestro & Marty the Moth

Marty kicks Castro and Striker rattles off movie characters that Marty reminds him of. Flying neckbreaker gets 2 for Castro. Marty and Joey go at it and Marty steals the lollipop and puts it in his mouth, before Joey recovers his stolen property and chomps on it. God, just imagine how great a Kings of Sleaze team would be with Joey and Marty.

Sinestro goes at it against Mr. Cisco and Cisco chops away and lands a fancy armdrag to a huge pop. Sinestro goes for a blindside lariat, but eats a snap powerslam for 2. Striker calls Cisco a hispanic Buzz Sawyer, which Vamp doesn’t sell. Striker talks about the Canadian trip and then calls it a Mexican trip before talking about how it originated from Lance Storm and Vamp says he’s not Canadian – he’s from Alberta.

Marty and Castro go at it and a DDT gives Castro a chance to recover and he tags in Cisco who lands a series of lariats. Cisco hits a sloppy and kinda scary rana off the second rope for 2. 

Sinestro comes in for a low blow on Joey, but it has no effect. Marty teases a dive, but flaps instead and gets sent to the floor so folks can do dives. Killshot hops off the top onto Castro’s chest and onto the pile! Marty tags in Killshot and they double team Cisco before a Marty spinebuster leads to a Killshot dropkick for 2. Cisco comes in and hits a rewind rana before The Crew goes for the 3D Codebreaker, but Joey superkicks Sinestro and nixes that.

Marty curbstomps Cisco and a Killshot double stomp ends it! This was a blast! Marty steals Killshot’s dogtags again – absolutely perfect. Sexy Star teams with Mariposa against Ivelisse and Taya next.

The Voodoo Glow Skulls play more music so the fans can dance more. Sexy Star comes down and they talk about her character’s backstory being a victim of domestic abuse. Vamp calls her “the face of Lucha Underground”, which is some grade A BS even by pro wrestling standards.

Taya and Ivelisse vs. Sexy Star and Mariposa

Taya starts off against Sexy after arguing with Ivie. Taya armdrags her down and wants more. A wacky cradle leads to a wacky submission by Sexy. They go back and forth on the mat in an expressive exchange before they tag their partners in. They exchange a variety of headlocks and Ivie gets 2 off a sunset flip before eating a lariat. Mariposa locks on a modified Sharpshooter, but gets pushed into the buckle and schoolgirled for 2. Taya and Mariposa tag in, argue and Sexy tags in.

Sexy eats a superkick to the gut, but lands a flying armdrag off the top. Running rana sends Taya to the floor and they talk about how we could see a female Gift of the Gods or LU Champion. Mariposa tosses Taya into a set of wooden steps on the floor. Sexy lets about another F bomb and Mariposa dives onto Taya on the chairs, before Ivie dives onto Mariposa on the floor.

Taya hits a corner choke with he foot and hits a back elbow. Double knees hit Sexy and only get 2. Sexy hits a yakuza kick and a lariat before a spinkick and DDT give her a brief edge.

A victory roll gets 2 for Sexy. Taya tags in Ivie before a chop exchange breaks out between Ivie and Sexy. A series of cradles get 2 for each. A standing backslide gets 2 for Sexy before a jackknife cradle gets 2 for Ivie. Taya runs in for a spear, but “misses” Sexy and hits Ivie before Mariposa hits the Celtic Cross and tosses Sexy on top to score the win.

This was far better than it seemed like it could be going in. Prince Puma talks to the crowd next.

Prince Puma comes down and Striker talks about him being the face of the company – like Tanahashi, Cena, and Bockwinkel. Puma debuts a new mask and says that he wants only one match at Ultima Lucha Dos. When Konnan was training him, he was told he could be the best – he could be the next Rey Mysterio.

He says Rey is the best and he wonders what he has to offer, and is he really the next Rey or is he even better? Rey comes down and Vamp says this is a meeting of a legend and icon against a future legend. Rey says he was one of the people who paved the road for a talent like Prince Puma, and he has a lot of respect for him.

Rey says that Puma is still a prince, while he is El Rey. Rey says that Puma needs to know if he’s better, while Rey needs to know if he’s still the best. This was built up very little in-storyline, but done so in a way that makes perfect sense now and it should lead to a classic.

Lucha Underground results: Monster vs. Machine as Matanza battles Cage

The show starts with a recap of the Trios title history this season, showing the former champs losing them to Rey Mysterio Jr, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr. before that team lost them to PJ, Mundo, and Jack Evans. It transitions to showing Chavo winning the Gift of the Gods Title, then losing it to Cage last week and cashing in the title for a match tonight. Striker runs down tonight’s card, where the former trios champs get a rematch tonight and Matanza battles Cage in the main event.

Son of Havoc vs. Daga

They start off with a fancy series of counters to arm wringers. Havoc is sent down off a tackle, but catches him with a rana. Superkick on the floor by Daga leads to him trying a snake eyes on the post, but that’s countered and Daga is sent in. Havoc trips him mid-ring and gets 2 off a standing moonsault. Daga gets a back suplex into a facebuster for 2. Daga traps him in the corner for mounted punches and a face wash. Daga slams him down and gets 2 off a Muta-style power drive elbow. Havoc lands some standing forearms, and eats punches. Armdrag into a Tequila Sunrise by Daga!

Kobra Moon comes down as Daga hits a corner elbow. Havoc flips out of the corner and hits a series of lariats. Muta-style handspring elbow in the corner and a springboard crossbody gets 2. An apron high kick by Havoc leads to a suicide dive on the floor. Kobra comes up and grabs the ankle of Havoc, leading to Daga hitting a kick up top and then going for a superplex – but eating a gordbuster and a shooting star press. Kobra Moon comes into the ring and caresses Daga in a weird way. She caresses his leg and he kicks her off. 

Winner – Son of Havoc

Backstage, Rey works on his spinning backfists while Azteca talks about finding Matanza’s cell. He wants revenge, while Rey tells him that Dragon Azteca Sr.  wouldn’t have wanted that. They argue and Prince Puma comes up and says their match is next. They tell him to leave, Rey says that it doesn’t concern him, and he says that as their partnets, it does concern him. Dragon Azteca Jr. is a fairly bad actor, but everyone else was fine here.

Rey Mysterio Jr., Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr. vs. Trios Champions Jack Evans, PJ Black, and Johnny Mundo

The heel team has red bandanas on now, and Rey is dominated for a bit by a PJ headlock. A shoulderblock gets 2 on Rey. Rey flips out of a schoolboy and hits a buzzsaw kick and a rana. Rey is up on his shoulders and Mundo distracts the ref so that PJ can toss him down and kick him in the nuts. A triple team neckbreaker by the heels gives them more of an edge. Jack comes in, stands on his chest and gets 2 off a standing moonsault.

Jack tells Rey “I think I can, I THINK I CAN” to mock him for trying to make a tag before attacking him. Mundo comes in and eats some punches, but a tilt a whirl takes Rey down again. Rey gets a DDT out of nowhere and tags in Puma. Puma’s headscissors and dropkick take Jack down while the northern lights brainbuster hits Mundo. Corner crossbody leads to a double kick in the corner and then a triple dropkick to PJ from the floor. Flip dive over Puma by Azteca.

Rey goes for a dive, but Jack stops it with a dropkick. Jack promises something big, and gets it as Puma hits him with a superplex off the top onto the pile on the floor. Puma goes for the 630, but Jack is pulled to the floor by his partners. Jack hits a 630 and gets 2.5. Puma hoists him up and lands a modifies GTS. Azteca and Mundo are in, and Mundo accidentally leaps into PJ in the corner. Azteca hits an around the world DDT on Mundo for 2. Azteca avoids the Moonlight Drive, and eats a kick to the nuts. Puma is pissed and kicks Mundo in the nuts – leading to a DQ so the heels retain and the faces have lost their rematch. Puma attacks Taya with a huge kick as well, while Rey tries to control Puma.

Winners – PJ Black, Jack Evans, and Johnny Mundo

After the match, we see Dragon Azteca Jr. meet Matanza. Black Lotus tells him that Dragon Azteca killed her parents, and that the truth hurts. They fight for a bit before he tells her that she knows it isn’t true. Well, they haven’t done much with that story thread for a while – so it’s good to further it slightly here. Cage comes out first carrying the title out like it’s a trash bag. As Matanza comes down, Striker runs down everything Matanza has done – including him beating nine foes in Aztec Warfare to win the title.

Cage vs. Lucha Underground Champion Matanza Cueto

We get a staredown and they immediately go into a Frye-Takayama exchange. Cage rams him, but Matanza doesn’t move. Matanza and Cage barge into each other, which doesn’t give anyone an edge until Cage hits an uppercut. Cage sends him to the floor and hits a flip dive. Cage goes up top and hits a moonsult while Vamp talks about Cage tearing the original LU title up last year. Thank God he did – that thing looked awful.

They fight on the floor and Cage tosses his head into the barricade before pulling the covers off the concrete. Cage taking the time to do that gave Matanza time to heal, and he tosses Cage into the barricades. Matanza lands the multiple Karelin Lifts on the floor, but Cage escapes the third one and lands a forearm. Giant German suplex on the floor by Matanza. Matanza tosses him in the ring and chokes him before hammerfisting his head.

Standing SSP leads to Cage getting his knees up and getting 2 off a neckbreaker. Cage traps him in the corner for a series of lariats. Cage showboats, giving Matanza time to get under him and land an exploder for 2. Matanza picks him up for a pumphandle bridging suplex for 2. Cage jacks his jaw and then lands a basement dropkick after a schoolboy. Matanza recovers and goes for the eyes. Vamp talks about how Matanza’s hands are always covered by blood. Cage lands an X Factor for 2. They each charge into each other with lariats and take one another down with pump kicks.

Cage and Matanza exchange Germans and then no-sell them like Hawk. After three of them, Cage starts to sell and then Matanza sends him down like a basic wrestling takedown, but hoists him up high for a German that looked incredible and gets 2. Cage avoids the Wrath of the Gods, but hits a discus lariat for 2.

Cage hits the power superplex from the middle rope. Flying elbow gets 2 for Cage. Matanza grabs him and lands the Kevin Steen sidewinder back suplex for 2. Cage counters a powerbomb with an Alabama slam and a standing moonsault for 2. Cage goes for Weapon X, but Matanza counters and lands an overhead belly to belly. A sitout powerbomb gets 2 for Matanza.

Cage counters the Wrath of the Gods with a small package for 2. Cage hits a Canadian Destroyer for 2. Cage pulls down the straps and lands a series of kicks, including a superkick – but the Wrath of the Gods gives Matanza the win. This was a pretty exctiing match and definitely worth checking out – it will probably be the match from the show put on El Rey’s Youtube channel later this week.

Lucha Underground results: Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma in star-laden Trios match

Two titles are on the line tonight as Cage battles Chavo for the Gift of the Gods Title, and Rey Mysterio Jr, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr. defend against the team of Fenix, PJ Black, and Jack Evans. It’s an unlikely team of opponents though, as Fenix is a babyface and thus an odd man out. Joey Ryan also faces Mascarita Sagrada, who is looking for his first win with Famous B by his side. 

The show begins with a recap of the cop drama and the Trios Titles being won by Rey, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr. Chavo stealing Cage’s medallion is shown, and we see him letting Chavo win so he can get a shot tonight. In Vampiro’s lair, he tells Pentagon Jr. that he’s not ready to face Matanza – while Pentagon says he has zero fear. Vamp welcomes the Voodoo Greyskulls to the show, and he runs down tonight’s card as Cage battles Chavo for the Gift of the Gods Title.

Striker talks about the main event which will see PJ Black, Jack Evans, and Fenix facing Rey, Azteca, and Puma. Joey Ryan is mid-ring while Striker calls him a hit and quit it kinda guy. Famous B comes out and gets a nice Famous B chant. He transitions it into a Mascarita chant and introduces him wonderfully, outside of getting jumped and calling him ‘MASCARITA GODDAMN!”

Joey Ryan vs. Mascarita Sagrada

Joey jumps him, but Sagrada recovers, sends him to the floor and dives onto him. Sagrada gets crotched, and then Joey offers up his lollipop to Brenda. Joey can’t lift him over his head, but is overjoyed when he lands a basic slam. Wasteland by Sagrada and a diving headbutt gets 2. Joey gets kicked low, which hurts Sagrada. A small package gets 2 for Sagrada and then Joey gets a very awkward tornado DDT for the win. B and Brenda console Sagrada while the commentators talk about how Sagrada has yet to win with Famous B by his side.

We get a Taya personality profile about how she sees confidence when she looks in the mirror. She also kicks the asses of a bunch of wacky suited ninjas, as you do. Taya says she sees the perfect woman in the mirror, and Mundo agrees. Her red dress and ass-kicking made it seem like they were going for a Ronda Rousey in Expendables 3 vibe – only with more lucha ninjas. King Cuerno talks to Mil Muertes’s body in a coffin in his office. Mil acted like he was king – but he was still in Cuerno’s jungle. Well, that was different and great. Chavo comes down and then Striker adds a billion nicknames for Cage, including the Sentinel.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Cage – Gift of the Gods Title

Chavo gets a “Cage is gonna kill you” chant right away. Cage’s new black and gold singlet looks fantastic. He starts with tons of lariats in the corners while Vamp buries Striker for saying Chavo was once one of the best in the world. Chavo tries to gain an edge with sneaky tactics, but gets caught in an apron tree slam. He rakes the eyes and gets Cage to the floor – but a dive is caught and he eats several slams against the railing. Chavo sends him to the floor with a tilt a whirl headscissors and a dive.

Chavo lands a draping DDT and gets 2. Chavo goes for the legs, but Cage tosses him into the buckle and monkey flips him. Cage catches a dive and lands a Finlay roll before a moonsault misses. Chavo gets 2, and works on the knee. Cage hits an apron kick and lands his power superplex into the ring. European uppercut sends Chavo into the corner, where Chavo tries to kick him – but eats a sitout Alabama slam that gets 2. Cage’s F5 is countered and Chavo hits a running tornado DDT for 2.

Rolling kick hits for Chavo, but a discus lariat only gets 2 for Cage thanks to Chavo getting his feet on the rope. Chavo avoids a superplex and gets a sunset bomb and a frog splash for 2.5! Chavo doe the Eddie shuffle and lands Three Amigos – but only gets two of them and Cage turns into a suplex, then a powerbomb, and then Weapon X for the win and the Gift of the Gods Title. Cage trades in his title for a shot at Matanza next week – where it will be Monster vs. Machine.

Taya takes Jack and PJ to the locker room where Fenix is laid out. Mundo replaces him and then punts Fenix for good measure. Officers Neehan and Reyes search Dario’s office since Dario and “his hot ninja” are gone. They find tons of money before Castro busts them for trying to rob Dario without him – so Reyes arrests Cisco while Neehan points a gun at him. Well, this was different and furthers the cop drama while also ending The Crew. Taya comes out and tells everyone that Fenix won’t be here, but PJ and Jack have a better partner – Mundo!

Johnny Mundo, PJ Black, and Jack Evans vs. Trios Champions Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr.

Jack starts with Azteca and lets everyone know he still hates dragons.  Jack flips around a bit, but eats a dropkick and some nasty chops in the corner. Azteca hits a double-jump armdrag sending Jack to the corner. A triangle dropkick sends Jack to the floor. PJ comes in to face Puma, and Puma gets tied to a tree of woe before Jack attacks in the corner. Mundo lands a tornado kick while Puma tries to rise up. PJ comes in and gets 2 off of that match. Mundo and PJ land a double backbody drop for 2.

Puma uses Jack and PJ against each other and forces PJ to DDT Jack with a flying lariat. Rey comes in to face Mundo and sends him down with a deja vu headscissors. Puma and Azteca kick away at Mundo. They get 2 off a legdrop while Jack jumps in for a save. Johnny turns Puma and Azteca’s bodies against each other by catching Azteca and sending Azteca into Puma in the corner. PJ gets 2 off a pop-up cutter. Evans comes in and lands a tornado kick before Rey sends Mundo to the floor. Azteca lands a springboard rana to the floor and sends Mundo into the apron.

Evans goes up, but gets crotched. Puma sends him down and that results in Evans hitting a wacky kick before hitting a pop-up rana that sends Puma into PJ where PJ eats a rana. Rey kicks PJ into the ropes for a 619, which hits. Puma’s 630 hits and only gets 2 because Mundo pulls the ref out. Mundo kicks Rey low before Mundo and Taya land a double superkick. PJ kicks Puma in the crotch and Evans kicks Puma low too! PJ goes for a brainbuster, but Jack kicks him low first and then the Wellness Policy hits. Johnny goes for the End of the World, but it only gets 2! Mundo goes for a German superplex, but Puma flips back and tags Azteca. Azteca gets a code red, but Jack chairshots him and Mundo cradles him for the win! PJ Black, Jack Evans, and Johnny Mundo win it – giving us two new champions tonight.

Lucha Underground results: Muertes vs Matanza; Rey Mysterio Trios title match

A recap video recaps the trios tournament, and the title win by Prince Puma, Rey Mysterio, and El Dragon Azteca Jr. We see a bit of the cop drama, and the announcement of Graver Consequences with Mil Muertes and Matanza – a casket match with four coffins in use. Dario meets with the mayor’s goon in a club and gives him his payment — thus explaining why he’s allowed to run an “underground” fight club. The goon tells him that he’s being watched by the police and he probably has at least one person on the inside. Dario is told that the Temple is very important, and that “his employer” will be visiting the Temple. Melissa Santos introduces our first match, for an Aztec medallion – a battle of former partners.

Mr. Cisco vs. Castro Castro vs. Joey Ryan – Aztec Medallion Match

Cisco gets a rollup on Castro for 2. Suplex by Castro to Cisco gets 2, while Joey is happy to just hang around on the outside of the ring. Joey Ryan goes for a schoolboy on Castro and beats him. Striker compares this to a flash knockout. Sure thing there, bucko.

Catrina talks to Mil about waiting 197 years for tonight. She says Mil spent only a few days in stone before she guided him to safety, and saved him from death in Grave Consequences. Tonight, she will lick Matanza’s face and make them immortal. King Cuerno rises from below in their sacred candle room area. Well, that should be a fun match down the line. Mundo is added to the former Trios Championship holders team tonight for a rematch.

Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, and Johnny Mundo vs. Trios Champions Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr

Mundo’s new pink and white gear is something else. Ivie starts out with Azteca, and outwrestles him for a bit. Leg kick to Ivie leads to him leaving and we we get Rey-Havoc. Havoc gets 2 off a standing SSP, while Rey gets 2 off a sunset flip. Rey and Havoc grab one another’s legs to avoid a kick – and agree to break on 3 and actually do. Puma tags in and then Mundo comes in for a slugfest.

Mundo sends him over the rope to the apron and lands a high kick. Puma blocks a lariat with a high kick. Azteca and Havoc are now in and Havoc sends him up top. Azteca flips down and cradles him for 2. Superman Forearm by Azteca hits, but Havoc recovers and gets 2 off a handspring cutter. Rey and Havoc come in and a victory roll gets 2 for Rey. An argument breaks out and Mundo “accidentally” flying Chuck kicks Ivie.

Havoc high kicks Rey and gets 2. 619 hits and a tag to Puma leads to the 630 while Striker talks about the torch being passed and a new star being created…off a tag and one move. Taya jumps Ivie after the match. The large funeral march begins to set up Graver Consequences. When combined with the tragic Western music, it’s beautiful and a great way to add a sense of artistic beauty on a wrestling show in a new way. Mil Muertes comes out with Catrina, while Dario leads Matanza down.

Lucha Underground Champion Mil Muertes vs. Matanza Cueto – Graver Consequences Match

Mil jumps him and hits a chain of lariats in the corner. Matanza responds with a clothesline from Hell. Mil is tossed over the top onto a casked back-first like he’s HBK – only he’s 300 pounds. Matanza puts a casket next to the other, but Catrina hits him with a chair. It does nothing – but when he goes for Catrina, Mil spears him through chairs. Matanza powerbombs Mil onto the top of one of the three side-by-side caskets. 

Mil smashes Matanza’s head into the posts, resulting in a wacky “bonk” sound effect. Matanza teases a chokeslam off the apron, but instead eats a Flatliner off of the apron onto the caskets. Matanza drags a casket into the ring, and then Dario gets pulled in – but Matanza saves him. Matanza hits the multiple gutwrench suplex, but Mil recovers, punches him and hits a spear without landing on his stomach.

Mil grabs the turnbuckle connector hook, but Matanza prevents its use and headbutts him. Matanza goes for the mask with his hands instead and tears it up. Matanza attacks the head with the hook and Striker says it’s to draw blood, and he’s sliced open. Matanza gets chokeslammed onto the casket! Mil grabs a toolbox and gets a lead glove, which Striker says you wouldn’t find that in a regular toolbox. Mil punches away on the mask with that glove. Matanza hits a low blow and a rabbit lariat. Matanza rips the lid off the coffin, and can’t win by tossing him in the mid-ring casket now.

Matanza realizes this and tosses it outside before taking an even bigger casket off its base and placing it on the floor. Matanza shoves him in the casket, but Mil’s hand raises up through the coffin and slams Matanza’s head onto the casket! Mil smacks him with the ring bell. Dario and Catrina brawl! Matanza has the stone and throws it in a casket. Matanza grabs Catrina and puts her in the casket with the stone. Mil hits a suicide dive to the floor! 

They come back in and Mil lands a sloppy powerslam to Matanza. Mil opens the lid of a casket and puts Matanza in it, but Matanza survives – only to eat a slew of punches. One big hook allows him to recover. POWERBOMB ON THE CASKET. Matanza hits the Wrath of the Gods rewind powerslam and wins it! They open the casket with Catrina, but she has vanished. Mil Muertes is carried away in the casket by the pall bearers. King Cuerno takes off a hood to reveal himself as one of them.

More drama as the councilman’s goon brings the money Dario gave them to a limo. He tells “his lord” that Dario thinks his brother is the most powerful being on Earth – but told him that his lord was, and we see a lighter spark and what looks like a cigar being lit up to introduce a new unseen character to the mix. This wasn’t the best episode of the season, but a solid one that built to the future nicely.

Lucha Underground results: Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma & Dragon Azteca jr. team up

The show starts with a recap of the Gift of the Gods Title’s concept and its lineage. The Mundo-Cage rivalry is recapped, as is Matanza’s title win. Dario meets with Mundo, Taya, and Cage and asks them to behave so he doesn’t have to fix his window again. Dario says he has a new trios tournament and Mundo says you want us to team, while Cage wants to fight Mundo.

Dario disagrees and says he likes his idea better, so we’re going to go with that since they all want gold. Hilarious bit where Cage says “I’m not a man…” and Dario replies “you’re a machine, I know…just win the tournament!” Robert Rodriguez’s band plays us in once again while Argenis is mid-ring to face Killshot.

Killshot vs. Argenis

Killshot debuts a new camo vest and puts dog tags in the corner before a prayer. Striker says we’ll get a different Killshot – so he should win a time or two this year. Big chop in the corner by Killshot before he throws him into each corner and does it again. A backbreaker gets 2. Pinwheel armdrag by Argenis leads to a top rope palm strike by him as well. Killshot sends him to the floor and hits a flip dive. Somersault cutter hits and gets 2 for Killshot. Striker’s editing goes into detail about how Killshot told him he was in the military, but didn’t go into it. C4 armdrag

by Argenis gets 2. Powerbomb into a corkscrew brainbuster by Killshot  leads to a Cro Cop kick and a double stomp off the top. In an odd move, Striker’s then-live commentary wonders if he’s had military training – exposing the editing. Modified spiking Michinoku driver wins for Killshot.

Black Lotus tells Dragon Azteca Jr that Matanza killed Dragon Azteca, but that she had no choice but to help Dario and plans to stay close to him. Dario meets with Daga and asks him what he sees with the medallions. Daga says they’re coins, but is correct and told that they’re the Gift of the Gods. Dario says that tonight, Daga will face the most violent man without the last name Cueto – Texano. 

Daga vs. Texano

Vamp tells us that Daga excels at shoot style while Texano’s family history is gone over. Daga backs him into the ropes and slaps him before flipping back. Legsweep and tumble exchange gets them back on even ground. A shoulder tackle by Daga is no-sold and met with a big slap. Texano rolls through a sunset flip and gets 2 off a buzzsaw kick. Texano chops and lariats him to death in the corner.

A Stinger splash misses and Daga lands a superkick. Daga gets crotched and dropkicked off the top rope to the floor. Daga kicks him on the apron and hits a corkscrew dive. Daga dominates him on the floor and rolls in to break the count before slamming Texano into the announce table.

Texano hits a running forearm in the corner and lands an outside-in dropkick to the chest for 2. Daga kicks his face and slaps him arrogantly before a forearm exchange breaks out mid-ring. Texano superkicks him, but eats a huge dropkick. Super leg lariat hits for Texano, but only gets 2. Texano goes for the powerbomb, but a Daga rana gets 2. Texano lariats him into a Fatu sell and goes for a German, but it’s countered into an ankle lock. Texano shoves him off and hits a monkey flip, with the sitout powerbomb getting the win for Texano.

In a room full of scented candles, Mil Muertes and Catrina talk. She summons the Disciples of Death out of thin air and asks for forgiveness. Catrina says they are in the Trios Title tournament and Mil will be Lucha Underground Champion again. Matanza is greater than any challenge he has yet faced – including the earthquake that made him. Mil roars in anger. Rey comes down with red and gold gear, while Puma has his usual stuff on and Dragon Azteca Jr. has a weird snake/dragon headdress on. Cage shoves them away in the entrance area.

Rey Mysterio Jr, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr. vs. Johnny Mundo, Taya, and Cage

Cage starts with Azteca and locks a headlock before nixing that and hitting a shoulderblock. Azteca avoids a corner charge with flips and a big armdrag. Double rollthrough to avoid the discus lariat and he tags in Puma. Striker’s edited voice clip talks about the history between Mundo and Puma. Handspring headscissors takes Mundo down, but a Taya distraction leads to a Moonlight Drive and 2. Taya comes in and hits a flying elbow in the corner before kicking Puma in the face. Striker’s edited voice runs through her history on the company.

Mundo lands some elbows to Puma while the ref is distracted. Shotgun knees to the face gets a 2 count. Cage tags in and goes for a pumphandle suplex, but it’s flipped out of – so a Doctor Bomb hits and gets 2. Standing moonsault gets 2 for Cage. Cage slaps Mundo in, so he’s legal now. 

Taya and Mundo stomp away at Puma in the corner. They stop this and try to prevent a tag. Mundo trips Rey, but Azteca comes in and hits a rana for 2. Azteca tags Rey in and he hits the flying seated senton and then the wheelbarrow arndrag. Rey hits a spinning headscissors on Mundo, knocking him into Taya for a double 619, but it’s avoided. Dives aplenty by Puma and Azteca! Springboard crossbody by Rey gets 2 on Mundo. Rollthrough on a sunset filp leads to a seated dropkick and a 2 count for Rey. Magic Killer by Mundo and Taya gets 2 thanks to a Puma save. Cage comes in and lariats both Puma and Azteca into flips. 

Cage goes for a moonsault, but gets stopped by Mundo. Mundo eats a big rana off the top and an SSP by Puma gets 2. Mundo hits a standing C4, but eats a kneeling superkick. Cage catches Rey on a rana and throws him into Taya in the corner. He has Azteca on his shoulders, and catches a flying Puma for a combo fallaway slam for 2. Rey hits a flipover headscissors and the 619, while Azteca hits a flying corkscrew DDT. 630 senton hits Mundo for the win! That was the best trios match all season. This was all-action and a ton of fun.

Dario tells Matanza that he will have his toughest match to date next week against Mil Muertes. Dario tells him that he is in the cage because he is a valuable asset, and you have to protect your valuables – and no one understands the beauty in his destruction like Dario does. Matanza shakes the cage in anticipation – well, that was a unique buildup to a world title match.

Lucha Underground results: Rey Mysterio announces trios team; Matanza vs. Fenix

We see a recap of the cops trying to come after Dario, while The Mack tries to help Sexy Star overcome her issues with Mariposa. We see Dario tell Matanza to break Pentagon Jr’s back, and a recap of the match where he ate a million moves to the back. In the bathroom, Vampiro looks at his medication while Dario tempts him to assault him – but he respects Vamp as the voice of LU. He doesn’t want him to make Pentagon’s mistake, and Vamp takes his medication.

At the precinct, Reyes and Detective Reehan talk to Captain Vasquez about getting evidence on Dario. She wants them to be a team, and Cueto has put them in the Trios Title tournament tonight with Mr. Cisco. At the Temple, a band plays while Striker says that Fenix faces Matanza later. Ivelisse faces Kobra Moon in the opener.

Ivelisse vs. Kobra Moon

Kobra slithers and goes for takedowns, while Vamp commends Ivie for her gear making her look like a walking knife. Ivie kicks away and armdrags her into an armbar. Kobra Moon gets a triangle choke, but eats a powerbomb for 2. Dragon sleeper by Kobra, but Ivie escapes and hits a wonky armdrag. Corner rana is turned into a rope-hanging choke by Kobra. Vamp wonders if she slithers around like a snake because her name is Kobra Moon.

Liver shot results in a Bas shoutout by Vamp, and a tarantula with a neck crank. Butterfly suplex into a butterfly lock. Striker talks about the Gable grip while Vamp asks if that’s due to Dan Gable and Striker confirms it. Weird overhead angle makes it hard to see Ivie’s setup into a Russian legsweep. Big Yakuza kick leads to an exploder by Ivie for 2. Running code red by Ivie gets the win! 

We get an interview with Killshot. He served in the military and had 37 confirmed kills – all bad guys, or so he was told. He was good with his hands too, so he was in the elite squad and he was the enemy’s prisoner for 13 months before escaping by kicking the asses of many lucha terrorist ninjas – who are totally different than the usual lucha ninjas. He isn’t sure if his partners survived, and he fights in LU to forget. Well, this was different and pretty good. Famous B gives Mascarita Sagrada his business card and wants him to call 423-GET-FAME.

He walks around and bumps into The Mack and Sexy working out. He wants her out for moral support tonight, but she can’t – until he motivates her saying he wants them to pay for what they did. We see the question mark being spray-painted above the Temple again. Joey Ryan jumps in front of the Crew and steals their thunder.

Joey Ryan & The Crew vs. The Mack/Mariposa/Marty the Moth

Joey Ryan teases a start before having Cisco start it off. Cisco and The Mack slap hands and Mack drops him with a tackle for 2. Cisco gets a wonky blind-diving armdrag, but Mack does a corner headstand and an armdrag. Slingblade armdrag by Mack before Mack flips up to his feet from his head. Joey tags himself in and wants “the girl”. He tries to give her his bodyoil lollipop, but she slaps him, so he pie-faces her. Rana gets 2 for Mariposa. Dropkick tot he knee sets up an axe kick, while Vamp hypes Andy Hug as the master of that.

High kick by Reyes leads to the drive by sliding kick by Cisco for 2. Mariposa knocks him off the ropes and Marty gets a 2 count. Double team wheelbarrow splash gets 2 for Mariposa. Cicso misses a basement dropkick, but Mariposa hits one. Marty comes in and hits a corner exploder for 2. Cortez comes in with a pop-in tornado DDT for 2 before Mariposa saves. Joey tags himself in to steal Cortez’s thunder, but Mack comes in and attacks with punches and a big slam before getting 2 off a legdrop. 

Samoan drop into a standing moonsault gets 2. Mariposa prevents a Mack dive, so he knocks her down and he flip dives onto the pile. Marty and Mack chop each other before Marty eats a stunner and a shatter machine by The Crew for the win! Mariposa jumps The Mack before Sexy Star comes in to make the save in a very short skirt. Sexy Star is pissed off and chops the daylights out of her before snapmaring and kicking her. Mack says that “SHE GOT DAT ASS, B*TCH! SHE GOT DAT ASS!” Mack is great.

We go to the top of the Temple and we see Dragon Azteca Jr. and Rey – so I guess the question mark is the Rey Signal. Rey tells him that going for revenge isn’t good – fighting for honor is better, and revenge will come in time. Rey and Azteca have a match next week in the trios tournament and will team with Prince Puma. We close to a cool shot of all of them in their respective hoodies before going back to the ring for the main event.

Striker talks about Fenix and Matanza fighting before, but Fenix was 1 while Matanza was 21 in Aztec Warfare. Striker calls Matanza the eater of worlds while Vamp talks about how we don’t know what Dario has done to make Matanza like this.

Lucha Underground Champion Matanza Cueto vs. Fenix

Dario tells Matanza to kill Fenix. Fenix avoids a shortarm clothesline before Matanza bowls him over and chokes him in the corner. Fenix hops over a Matanza charge, and hits a few superkicks to the knees, gut, and head – but gets caught and hit with a German INTO THE BUCKLE. Fenix knocks him into the ropes into a 619 position for a kick, but a dive is met with a rewind poweslam that Fenix escapes. Big German by Matanza! Fenix hits a missile dropkick and an apron elbow before Matanza punches him to the floor. 

Fenix hits two apron superkicks and goes for a suicide dive, but is met with a World’s Strongest Slam on the floor leading to multiple “holy shit!”s by Vamp. Rewind powerslam hits for the win. Matanza climbs on top of Fenix and slugs away while the referee is threatened with firing. Catrina tells him to stop before Mil Muertes returns and attacks Matanza and sends him packing.

Striker wonders if he is showing mercy to Fenix, or if he just wants the title. Fenix and Muertes have been enemies for the last year and a half, but now find themselves as uneasy allies. This was a really good episode of the show and gave Matanza a very small chink in the armor to at least make him seem like a monster that could one day be beaten.

Lucha Underground results: Mil Muertes vs. Pentagon Jr vs. Prince Puma

Tonight, The Mack battles Marty The Moth while Marty’s sister makes her debut. Famous B returns with more advice on how to be famous, and a new partnership is formed inside the Temple as rivals of Drago come together. Cage battles Taya, while Mil Muertes, Pentagon Jr., and Prince Puma battle in the main event for the Lucha Underground Title.

Show Recap:

The show begins with a recap of the Moth vs. Sexy Star feud and Cage and Johnny Mundo’s issues, including the debut of Taya. The Jack Evans vs. Drago rivalry is run down, as are Pentagon Jr. and Cuerno’s issues with Catrina. Backstage, Sexy Star is in the back being sad, while The Mack comes in and attempts to act. He says it’s time to squash the bug and make Sexy the Sexy he knows. God bless The Mack, but acting is not his thing.

In the ring, Marty the Moth stands over Melissa Santos and sniffs her hair creepily. The crowd chants “no means no!” and The Mack runs down to attack.

Marty The Moth vs. The Mack

Striker says that it’s time for a garden of empowerment to grow. Mack runs Marty down with big punches and lariats. Mack gets backdropped to the apron and he eats a big kick. Marty hits a dive and Striker says the Math had to fly. Marty plays the bongos on the apron before chopping Mack’s chest and getting 1. Marty goes for a bulldog into the buckle for some reason, and gets crotched.

Marty elbows Mack down, but he misses a diving splash and eats a big German and T-Bone suplex. Mack goes up, but the lights go out and Marty’s sister comes down to distract while Marty gets a big slam off the top and a stomp to win. Mariposa is his sister and Sexy freaks out on the floor. She tells Sexy to get up and knocks her back down.

Fenix walks around Mexico in a suit, in his mask saying he grew up with nothing to call his own. He had fantasy though, and heard about Lucha Underground and was told he wouldn’t survive. He proved them wrong doing that and even became champion. They think he won’t become LU Champion – but he will, and it’s no fantasy. Backstage, Jack Evans pees, but is attacked by Drago afterwards.

He wants Evans to prove he’s the Dragon Slayer, but PJ Black attacks with nunchucks. Then everyone gets a set and spins them around before Drago hits them with a shot, but eats several more. They threaten him, but Aerostar the Time-Traveling Spaceman returns from the future to save his rival. This was hilarious. Cage is mid-ring for his match with Mundo. Taya comes down with Johnny’s slow-mo fan intro and says it’s time for her to kick his ass since Johnny already did.

Cage vs. Taya Valkyrie – No Disqualification

Striker says she was trained by Lance Storm while Vampiro says she’s been adopted by lucha fans. Tays starts by slapping the shit out of him and he responds by shoving her down. Cage does lifts in a backbreaker position before putting her in a gorilla press and then powerslamming her down . Taya punches him in the balls before landing a kneeling dropkick. Shotgun knees in the corner hit the chest hard and get 2. Striker says that Lance is one of the greatest wrestlers in the world, while Vamp says Lance had nothing to do with her success.

Cage powerbombs her on the railing, then on the post before saying “WHO’S THE F***ING MACHINE”, which went unbleeped.  Big powerbomb in the ring leads to a buckle bomb before he sets up two tables on the floor. He gets the deadlift superplex from the apron to the floor on her through the tables. Mundo has seen JUST ABOUT ENOUGH and hits Cage with the pipe to get a 2 count. Mundo brings in another cinder block and beers.

Striker was okay with the man on woman stuff, but THIS is too much. Cage avoids a powerbomb onto this stuff, but he Alabama slams him and goes for a curb stomp. Taya saves Johnny, and he hits Cage with two beer bottles – but he gets his ass kicked and Taya eats Weapon X on the broken glass leading to a pinfall. 

Famous B says he’s famous, and a retired underground fighter. He also has a wizard hat and meets Brenda, who has no job and car – she’s tore up from the floor up, but Famous B’s magic touch  makes her beautiful. They flash some cash around and do the classic local ad bit of holding the camera on folks way too long.

Ivelisse comes out of Catrina’s office and says she got them a trios title shot, but they have to leave LU if they lose. The guys argue and she tells them to argue and man up. Angelico has a new grey and black Lucha Underground shirt on while Striker hypes up Aztec Warfare. Main event time.

Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes vs. Pentagon Jr – Lucha Underground Title

Striker says each man brings something special, and Vamp says yes – and one guy is dressed like a Puma. Pentagon and Puma attack Muertes in the corner.  Puma and Pentagon stare at one another, but resuming beating Mil in the corner. Mil recovers and powerbombs Puma to death. Tilt a whirl backbreaker to Pentagon. Corner lariats to Pentagon lead to Puma intervening and being thrown into the corner to eat them too! Pentagon gets tossed to the floor, but he lands on the floor perfectly and Vamp says that’s an old Jerry Estrada move.

Puma high kicks Mil, but punched out on the apron. Mil hits a dead man dive over the top to the floor! They fight in the crowd and Puma hits a flying lariat off the steps. Mil goes to toss him in the ring, but Puma does some ninja stuff and runs up the apron before Pentagon superkicks Mil. Mil tosses Pentagon into the post and powerbombs him in the ring for 2. Mil spikes him with a DDT for 2.

Pentagon lands 2 Slingblades sending Mil to the floor, where he eats a flip dive. Puma responds with a more beautiful flip dive of his own, then a second, and a third! Puma and Pentagon fight on the railing area with some punches amongst the fan. Pentagon lifts him up and hits an FU on the platform before diving onto Mil. Mil runs his spine into the apron five times and he tackles him into the chairs.

Pentagon stops short of a barricade toss and Puma hits an SSP off the barricade onto the pile! That gets a “holy sh*t!” chant, which Vamp says in Spanish is still “holy sh*t!”.

Pentagon goes down and Puma hits the 630, but Mil makes the save! Puma lands a chain of uppercuts, but eats a powerslam for 2. Mil sets up a Flatliner, but Pentagon superkicks him before they each land a ton of superkicks leading to Striker saying it’s time to RSVP for the superkick party.

Pumphandle powerbomb gets 2 for Pentagon! Package piledriver to Puma leads to an arm snapper, but Mil spears Pentagon to end that and hopefully take Pentagon out. Mil double flatliners both for the win! This ruled!

Catrina gives both Puma and Pentagon the lick of death before Fenix stands atop the temple. He tells them to celebrate now, because he’s handing in the Gift of the Gods Title to get his LU Title shot. Fenix was so passionate here that it made up for his iffy English, and when combined with the prior video package, made Fenix seem like a big star.
