WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • Triple H, Finn Balor, and Billie Kay were on today’s episode of The Bump.
  • Finn Balor defended Goldberg and other WWE legends returning this past Monday in an interview with Metro UK. “Doesn’t bother me at all,” he said. “I believe that everyone has a place in this business, and if you’re on the show, you’re on the show for a reason. If you’re on the show once a year, if you’re on the show every night, that’s down to everybody’s individual circumstance. Those guys have carved out their legacy and proven over the years that they belong on the show. Whether it’s for one night or it’s every night, that doesn’t affect me and it shouldn’t affect anyone else.”
  • Balor also spoke to Sports Illustrated on his recovery from his jaw injury that took place at NXT TakeOver 31 back in October.

WWE Championship match official for Raw Legends Night

The WWE Championship will be on the line on the first Raw of the new year.

Keith Lee defeated Sheamus on Raw tonight to become the number one contender to Drew McIntyre’s WWE Championship. McIntyre will defend his title against Lee on Raw next Monday (January 4).

Lee pinned Sheamus in the number one contender’s match after hitting a Spirit Bomb. McIntyre was on commentary for the match and Lee went face-to-face with him after it was over.

After dissension between them throughout the night, last week’s Raw ended with Sheamus laying out Lee with a Brogue Kick. McIntyre, Sheamus & Lee had defeated AJ Styles, The Miz & John Morrison in a holiday street fight in last week’s main event.

McIntyre opened tonight’s Raw with an in-ring promo. After mentioning the number one contender’s match, he was interrupted by Sheamus. Sheamus said he kept his word to McIntyre since he didn’t attack Lee during last week’s match and only did so after the match was over. Lee also came down to the ring. Lee said there’s zero trust between him and McIntyre now after what Sheamus did last week. Lee said Sheamus may do the same thing to McIntyre and stab him in the back someday.

McIntyre told a referee to come down to the ring so Lee vs. Sheamus could start. McIntyre said no matter who his challenger is, he’ll still be champion after next week’s title match. As Lee turned his attention to McIntyre, Sheamus gave Lee two Brogue Kicks before their match started.

Next week’s Raw will also feature appearances by Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and more as part of Legends Night.

Legends Night set for first WWE Raw of 2021

The first Raw episode of the new year will have a legends theme.

During tonight’s Raw, it was announced that Legends Night will be the theme of the January 4, 2021 episode of Raw. The show will feature appearances by Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, Beth Phoenix, Torrie Wilson, and more.

Big Show, Jacqueline, Booker T, Sgt. Slaughter, Mickie James, Tatanka, Jeff Jarrett, Jimmy Hart, Ivory, Carlito, The Boogeyman, Melina, Mark Henry, IRS, Alicia Fox, Hillbilly Jim, and Michael Hayes were the other wrestlers who appeared in the commercial for Legends Night.

WWE.com wrote about Legends Night:

Get ready to ring in 2021 with one legendary night.

Some of your favorite WWE Legends and Hall of Famers will return for Raw Legends Night on the first Monday Night Raw of the new year. The guest list is already set to feature two of the greatest of all time: ‘The Immortal’ Hulk Hogan and ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair.

Will your favorite WWE Legend show up on this epic night?

There’s no telling what surprises are in store when Raw Legends’ Night rings in 2021 on Monday, January 4 at 8/7 C on USA Network!

The announcement of Legends Night comes after Raw drew its lowest ratings in history last Monday. The week after Legends Night, Raw will face competition from college football’s National Championship game.
