Triple threat number one contender’s match set for WWE Raw

A triple threat match that will determine the next challenger for the WWE championship has been set for next week’s Raw.

AJ Styles, Riddle, and Keith Lee will meet on Raw next week. The winner will face Drew McIntyre for the championship.

Tonight’s show had Styles, Riddle, Lee, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and Bobby Lashley all make their claims to facing McIntyre next. WWE official Adam Pearce later announced three singles matches, with the winners of those matches advancing to next week’s triple threat match.

Braun Strowman also said that he wanted the next title match. However, he was escorted from the building after he attacked Pearce in the opening segment. Dave Meltzer reported this afternoon that Strowman is scheduled to be McIntyre’s opponent at TLC.

Riddle was able to beat Sheamus by cradling him as Sheamus applied a cloverleaf. Lee won his match against Lashley by DQ after MVP ran in and attacked Lee, with the idea that he was protecting Lashley from being pinned.

In the main event, Randy Orton faced AJ Styles. The Fiend Bray Wyatt made an appearance, distracting Orton in the process. This allowed Styles to pin Orton following the Phenomenal forearm.

Eight-man tag match added to WWE Raw

Ahead of Sunday’s pay-per-view, four of the five members of Raw’s Survivor Series men’s team will team up on tonight’s go-home edition of Raw.

WWE has announced that Keith Lee, Sheamus, Braun Strowman & Riddle (w/ AJ Styles) will face RETRIBUTION (Mustafa Ali, T-Bar, Mace & Slapjack) in an eight-man tag match on Raw tonight:

In recent week’s the members of the Men’s Survivor Series Team have had a hard time getting into the team spirit, [in spite] of (or maybe because of) the effects of their self-professed Team Captain AJ Styles.

Tonight, Keith Lee, Sheamus, Braun Strowman & Riddle will look to contend with RETRIBUTION in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match.

Can The Phenomenal One find a way to help his team coexist effectively against the forces of anarchy? Will Team Raw pick up valuable momentum heading into Survivor Series this Sunday? Or will RETRIBUTION use Team Raw’s inner conflict against them to assure they don’t even make it out of Monday Night Raw? Find out tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network.

Styles, Lee, Sheamus, Strowman & Riddle will face Team SmackDown in the men’s five-on-five traditional Survivor Series elimination match on Sunday. Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Baron Corbin, and Seth Rollins have qualified for Team SmackDown thus far. There’s one spot remaining on SmackDown’s team.

Two title matches are set for tonight’s episode of Raw. WWE Champion Randy Orton will defend his title against Drew McIntyre on the show, while Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) will defend their titles against The Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin). The winner of Orton vs. McIntyre will face Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a non-title champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series. The team that wins tonight’s Tag Team title match will face SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits in a non-title champion vs. champion match on Sunday.

The 30th anniversary of The Undertaker will also be celebrated at Survivor Series.

Three Survivor Series qualifying matches announced for WWE Raw

Three Survivor Series qualifying matches are set for tonight’s post-Hell in a Cell edition of Raw.

WWE has announced that Jeff Hardy vs. AJ Styles, Sheamus vs. Matt Riddle, and Keith Lee vs. Elias will take place on Raw tonight. The winners will qualify for Team Raw in this year’s Survivor Series men’s elimination match.

The theme of last year’s Survivor Series pay-per-view was Raw vs. SmackDown vs. NXT. WWE has yet to announced the full details for this year’s elimination matches.

Survivor Series is taking place on Sunday, November 22. WWE has announced that they’ll be celebrating The Undertaker’s 30th anniversary at the PPV.

Appearances by new WWE Champion Randy Orton and former champion Drew McIntyre are also set for tonight’s Raw. Orton will appear on A Moment of Bliss with Alexa Bliss, while McIntyre will kick off tonight’s show. In the main event of last night’s Hell in a Cell PPV, Orton defeated McIntyre in a Hell in a Cell match to win the WWE Championship. This is Orton’s 14th reign as a WWE World Champion.

WWE Raw season premiere live results: Hell in a Cell go-home show

Date: October 19, 2020
Location: Amway Center in Orlando, FL

The Big Takeaway —

Raw was bad but with a few different wrestlers this time.

Show Recap —

Raw kicked off with a new theme song: “The Search” by NF.

The announcers ran down tonight’s show which includes “The Viper’s Message from Hell.”

Alexa Bliss appeared in the ring covered in red lighting. She announced, “He here. Let him in.”

The Fiend entered. They held hands when the lights came back on and different music played. It was the song for Retribution. All five members, including Mustafa Ali, surrounded Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss.

Ali raised his hand and the lights went out. That appeared to be a signal for an attack but when the lights turned on, Wyatt and Bliss were gone.

That cued the music for Hurt Business who entered next. (Mia Yim left the ring.) Hurt Business cleared the ring and Cedric Alexander wiped out Retribution with a dive and they abruptly went to break (9 minutes into the show).

There was a Matt Riddle video package.

8-man tag match: The Hurt Business defeated Retribution (10:57)

Hurt Business were in control of Slapjack until Alexander was distracted by T-Bar and Mace outside the ring. Slapjack yanked him off the top and tagged in Ali who took over.

There was a face-off between the two teams on the outside when the Fiend suddenly appeared on the screen with his creepy music playing. He stuck out his tongue. Nobody looked at the screen. They went to break.

Tom Phillips said the two teams have been fighting throughout the break, which is normally what happens during a wrestling match, and Byron Saxton said it’s a sign of the disdain between the two teams.

Shelton Benjamin gave Mace a German suplex and step-up knee strike. Lashley followed with a spinebuster before spearing T-Bar but Ali broke up the cover.

Lashley put T-Bar in the Hurt Lock and he tapped out. Retribution lost.

The lights turned red and the Fiend appeared on the apron. He took out each member of Retribution. T-Bar saved Ali from a Sister Abigail. Wyatt gave T-Bar a Sister Abigail instead.

Bliss appeared on the screen and said, “let me in” in Wyatt’s voice. I laughed.

AJ Styles (w/Jordan Omogbehin) defeated Matt Riddle (11:23)

AJ Styles entered with Jordan Omogbehin. Jordan looks especially gigantic next to Syles. Styles commended Raw for finally drafting a real leader. He bragged about beating Seth Rollins and Jeff Hardy. He said this was never Monday Night Rollins and called this a new era that belongs to him.

Matt Riddle entered. Fireworks went off when he kicked off his sandals and they showed a slow-motion replay.

They rang the bell to start the match but Omogbehin wouldn’t leave the ring. The referee told him to leave before a five-count or else Styles would be disqualified. Omogbehin stopped him from counting. The ref pleaded with him to leave the ring. Styles thought this was amusing. Omogbehin left the ring.

Riddle sent Styles to the outside and was about to attempt something but Omogbehin stepped in his way which caused him to frantically scamper back into the ring.

Styles was in control after a break. Riddle came back with strikes and a t-bone suplex but Styles got his feet up on a senton attempt. They exchanged strikes until Riddle hit a German suplex. Styles followed with a fireman’s carry neckbreaker for a nearfall. Riddle came back with a fisherman buster for two.

They fought while standing on the top rope until Styles fell into the ring and riddle fell out of it. Omogbehin walked up to Riddle and clenched his fist. Riddle slipped back in the ring where Styles gave him an enziguri and a Styles Clash for the pinfall win.

(The match itself felt short with a mid-match commercial break and 90 seconds of stalling at the beginning.)

There was a Drew McIntyre/Randy Orton video package.

[Second hour]

Charly Caruso attempted to interview McIntyre in the back but he asked her for the mic so he could speak directly to Orton. He said throughout his career, especially over the past few months, Orton has been the most evil, sadistic, entitled and selfish person in WWE.

McIntyre knew he should have left Orton his the past when he beat him at Clash of Champions. Orton was intelligent knew how he’d react when he attacked the legends on Raw. McIntyre knew that Orton thrived inside Hell in a Cell, a match he’s never been in himself.

McIntyre said he’s been in more hell in life than you can imagine and would put Orton through hell on Sunday. McIntyre warned Orton not to be surprised if he shows up for Orton’s scheduled speech tonight.

Asuka defeated Lana to retain the Raw Women’s Championship (2:20)

Lana got some brief offense and a two count but Asuka won easily with the Asuka Lock. (If you’re curious, they played fake booing for Lana when she was introduced.)

Nia Jax’s music hit as soon as the match ended. Jax and Shayna Baszler entered. They knocked down Asuka before Jax put Lana through the announce table for the fifth time.

Baszler went after Asuka but Asuka fought her off with a kick and knocked her out of the ring with a running hip attack. Asuka escaped and posed with her belt as Jax and Baszler looked on.

Jax and Baszler cut a promo after a break. Jax noted how well they worked as a team despite not being the type to braid each others’ hair and follow each other on Instagram. Baszler called them the dominant team on both brands. Jax dared anyone to challenge them.

Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke entered. Saxton wasn’t sure this was the right time to step up to the champions and Samoa Joe let him know this was exactly the right time to step up.

Lacey Evans entered and was followed by Peyton Royce. They walked down together but Evans kept stepping in front of her so she could be on camera.

Smackdown’s Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan entered next. The bell rang and I guess a match is starting.

Non-title fatal four-way tag match: Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler defeated Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans & Peyton Royce and Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan (8:29)

As Jax/Baszler and Rose/Brooke brawled on the outside, Royce knocked everyone down with a dive. Evans followed with a dive herself (which barely connected). Ruby and Morgan also hit dives on the pile which led to a break.

Everyone traded moves a few minutes later. The Riott Squad almost had Evans beat after a Codebreaker/Riott Kick combo but Baszler broke up the cover. Baszler choked out Ruby as Jax gave Evans a Samoan drop for the pinfall win.

Elias concert

Elias had a full band with him. He plugged his album which comes out next week. He played a song called “Amen” and said he hoped Hardy was listening.

Elias played the full song. They cut to fans on screens, many of whom held up their cell phone flashlights while swaying or nodding their heads. Elias played a short song called “Lead Me Home.” He thanked the audience before saying, “I love none of you.” He was about to leave but came back because he assumed the fans wanted an encore.

A mystery guitar man under a hood began playing on his own. Elias demanded he stopped. It was Hardy. Hardy swung the guitar at Elias who ducked and rolled away. Hardy told him that he didn’t hit him with the car. Hardy’s music played.

The Miz and John Morrison spoke in the back about Otis and Mandy Rose. Tucker interrupted them. He claimed Miz used his influence with the USA Network to get him and Rose drafted away from Otis. Tucker said he would find a partner and ruin them tonight. Miz and Morrison accepted. They laughed maniacally at the idea that Tucker could find a partner.

Caruso caught up to an upset Elias backstage. He couldn’t believe people were still interrupting him. He challenged Hardy to a match at HIAC.

New Day promo

Kofi Kingston said New Day were the Raw tag champs for the first time in nearly four years. Xavier Woods said he got injured last year and 2020 has been a garbage year and he returned just for them to get drafted away from Big E. Kingston got him to calm down.

Sheamus interrupted. He called their segment on Smackdown embarrassing and threatened to Brogue Kick Kingston. He also said they were only two-thirds of New Day. Kingston said New Day wasn’t done. Big E could hold things down on the blue side while they do their thing on the red side. They said they would spread their seeds all over WWE.

Sheamus told them to shut up before they reminded him that he got beat up by Big E. Woods told him to come to the ring to get beat up by Kingston.

Kofi Kingston (w/Xavier Woods) defeated Sheamus (13:13)

Sheamus dropped Kingston over the edge of the ring and they went to break less than 2 minutes into the match.

[Third hour]

Sheamus was in control after the break. A shirtless Big E was shown watching on one of the screens and Woods let Kingston know E was there to help encourage him. Kingston came back with a foot stomp, chops, dropkick, clothesline, leg drop and flying crossbody for two. Sheamus caught him off the ropes and hit a swinging side slam for two.

Kingston tried a dropkick but Sheamus caught him and applied a Texas Cloverleaf. Kingston countered into a small package for two. Sheamus ducked a Trouble in Paradise and hit an Alabama Slam for two. (Joe wondered how much Kingston had left. Woods yelled, “He’s got a lot left, Joe!” which was funny because Woods wasn’t standing that close to the announce table.)

Sheamus went to the top but Kingston brought him down with a side Russian leg sweep for two. Woods yelled, “New moves! New moves!” They exchanged cradles for two counts before Kingston caught Sheamus with Trouble in Paradise for the pinfall win.

They replayed Retribution losing and getting beat up by Bray Wyatt.

Mustafa Ali promo

Ali cut a backstage promo with Retribution standing behind him. Ali said Hurt Business and Wyatt made a mistake thinking his only strength was strength in numbers. His real strength was causing chaos. All he needed was a laptop or a cell phone or a secret. With one click he can make anyone’s world come crumbling down.

Ali sat at home over the summer because this corrupt company couldn’t figure out how to make money with a guy named Mustafa Ali. But he didn’t just sit at home watching. He watched all of the spineless wrestlers backstab each other just to get ahead while he learned their secrets.

Ali admitted to being the hacker on Smackdown. He figured out that this sick place is infecting everyone with greed and corruption. Good individuals were being forgotten and their dreams were being left behind. But he found them and united them. He promised them that their truth would be heard. He didn’t care who tried to stop them. “We will shut you down.”

Ali was very good here.

Hurt Business stood shoulder-to-shoulder-to-shoulder backstage, happy with their work earlier. Titus O’Neil congratulated them and said he would love to join and said he could bring something to the group. MVP faked discussing it with the group. O’Neil thought they wanted him to join. He was wrong. They beat him up.

Miz and Morrison entered and wanted to see who Tucker’s partner was. Tucker entered and said he found a great luchador. Out came El Gran Gordo. It was Otis under a mask. Miz immediately noted that it was Otis under a mask and that he was even holding the lunchbox.

Tucker said he was the next Rey Mysterio. Miz cut them off and cut a long promo until he called Otis a pig in a mask. Tucker and Otis attacked and cleared the ring.

Tucker & El Gran Gordo defeated The Miz & John Morrison (4:40)

El Gran Gordo made a hot tag and gave Miz an arm drag before doing a cartwheel. R-Truth showed up and ran through the ring as a few losers ran after him. This distracted Miz. Gordo used to the distraction to hit a Caterpillar and a Vader Bomb for the pinfall win.

New Day, Tucker and El Gran Gordo danced backstage. Mandy Rose handed Gordo a big thing of ham. They all celebrated together.

Firefly Fun House

Wyatt tossed out props from his past including a miniature mallet and black sheep mask. He was sad to leave his friends on Smackdown but was happy to make new friends on Raw.

The rabbit mentioned having a wife and Wyatt was confused. The rabbit was sad that he didn’t know. Wyatt promised to be a better friend. There was a black-and-white montage of the rabbit getting eaten and destroyed throughout the show’s history.

Wyatt said the past was in their heads but the future was in their hands. The rabbit was happy to get a fresh start but was eaten again by the buzzard.

Someone knocked on the door. It was Alexa Bliss (wearing black and red). She said their fun was just getting started. Everyone was happy and they waved goodbye.

Braun Strowman defeated Keith Lee (2:43)

Strowman was in control and ran over Lee on the outside. He tried a powerslam in the ring but collapsed because of the injured ribs at the hands of Roman Reigns on Smackdown. Lee hit a splash for a nearfall.

Strowman took a page out of Reigns’ book by using an “incidental” low-blow. (Lee was trying to pick him up off the mat but Strowman headbutted him low.) Strowman followed with a running big boot for the pinfall win.

As Strowman celebrated, Lee turned him around and kicked him in the nuts. Lee yelled at him for taking a shortcut against the wrong man.

(Ric Flair and JBL were shown watching this match on the screens. Booker T was shown earlier tonight, too.)

Randy Orton promo / main event segment

Orton came out with about 6 minutes left in the show.

The Hell in a Cell cage was lowered and Orton locked himself inside.

Orton noted all of the promos that suggested that those who enter HIAC always leave a piece of themselves behind. Orton has had seven of these matches but only comes out of them with a better understanding of himself.

He recalled his HIAC matches in the past: facing Mark Henry, surviving Sheamus, beating Jeff Hardy and Daniel Bryan, facing John Cena twice, and winning the world title twice. The most important thing he remembered was looking the Dead Man in the eye and earning his respect inside HIAC. He said all of those men were current or future Hall of Famers.

He said the word “legend” gets thrown out a lot these days and called McIntyre’s win over Brock Lesnar legendary. As he spoke, McIntyre interrupted.

McIntyre couldn’t get in the cage because it was locked, so Orton taunted him. McIntyre pulled bolt cutters out from behind a barricade which caused Orton to panic. Orton grabbed a chair as McIntyre cut the chain and entered the cell. As soon as he did, they went off the air.

What the hell?

Raw was bad but I did enjoy the New Day and Ali’s promo.

WWE NXT live results: North American title on the line

The show opened with Undisputed Era coming out for an in-ring promo. The group included Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, and Roderick Strong. Adam Cole was still out of action selling his injuries from TakeOver. O’Reilly was noticeably acting like a leader, and he did all the talking.

Bobby Fish & Roderick Strong (with Kyle O’Reilly) defeated Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan

Strong pinned Lorcan to win a fantastic tag match. With the win, Undisputed Era becomes number one contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championship.

Early on, Lorcan and Strong did some cool grappling based on a headscissors. Burch tagged in, and he started torturing Strong’s arm. Fish was next to tag in, but he was also worked over. Burch & Lorcan with double team moves, and they got heat on him.

Undisputed Era with a comeback just before the show cut to commercial. When the show returned from the break, Undisputed Era had cut the ring in half. A hot tag to Burch, and Burch proceeded to clean house.

Fish made a save for Strong, and Undisputed Era regained the advanatge. Burch landed a double flying dropkick on both Strong & Fish. Lorcan then ran wild off a hot tag. He executed a double blockbuster. Fish jumped in to make a save, but he was overpowered as Burch & Lorcan were on a roll.

A big melee leads to Burch giving Strong an ax bomber. Burch & Lorcan spiked Strong with a double-team DDT, and Lorcan went to cover Strong. Fish again made a save to break up a count. Fish made Lorcan collide with Burch, and Strong followed with a jumping knee strike that leveled Lorcan. Strong then covered Lorcan for a pinfall.

So we are informed NXT Champion Finn Balor is indeed injured, which we knew. He also had surgery, which some of us might have known. What we still do not know is the fate of the NXT Championship. William Regal was quoted as saying “they are going to give it a few weeks”, and see the progess of Balor. So basically they are taking the wait-and-see approach.

A vignette profiled Ember Moon and her journey back to NXT. This did more to get Ember Moon over than her entire run on the main roster. Great stuff.

Jake Atlas defeated Ashante “Thee” Adonis

Counters and reversals in the opening stages of the match. Adonis with a really nice dropkick. They got into a slugfest. Meanwhile, Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde came to ringside. Adonis was distracted, and Atlas caught him in a small package to score a pinfall.

Wilde & Mendoza attacked Adonis after the match. Atlas made a save for Adonis, and they sent the heels packing. Santos Escobar entered stage left. He looked at his henchmen with disgust. He then removed his sunglass, and he marched to the ring.

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott came out of the crowd carrying three chairs. He backed up Atlas & Adonis, the three babyfaces stood ready for the heels. The rudos thought better of it, and they backed down.

Johnny Gargano defeated Austin Theory

Gargano pinned Theory in a really good match.

Gargano outwrestling Theory in the first part of the match. Gargano toyed some with him, as Theory was reeling. Theory soon fired up, leading to a standing moonsault for a near fall. Gargano tried to cut him off, but Theory rolled through knock down Gargano with a dropkick.

Theory got the better of a striking exchange. Gargano with a comeback to deliver a spear, and then the show abruptly went to a commercial break. Gargano was stretching Theory in a cobra twist when the show returned from break.

Theory flapjacked Gargano, and he exploded into a flurry of offense. Theory blocked a superkick, but he hit Gargano with a superkick. A neckbreaker netted Theory a two count.

Gargano went to cut off Theory. Gargano flew off the ropes with a flying crossbody. Theory caught him, rolled through, and got him in a fireman’s carry. Gargano countered into a sunset flip. Theory hooked the legs for a false finish much like Okada was used in G1.

They traded strikes, and Gargano rocked Theory with a superkick. Gargano throws Theory into the corner like a lawn dart. Gargano executed One Final Beat, and he covered Theory for a pinfall.

Rhea Ripley and Raquel Gonzalez almost got into a brawl backstage, and officials had to separate them.

Candice LeRae defeated Shotzi Blackheart

LeRae pinned Blackheart for a tainted victory, thanks to a set of brass knux. She also had help from a new friend. With the win, LeRae becomes number one contender to the NXT Women’s Championship

Blackheart was on fire at the start, and she shined early on. She sailed through the ropes with tope suicida. Blockheart with a cool combo dropping LeRae from a fireman’s carry into a jawbreaker on her knee.

LeRae cut off Blackheart, and she worked her over. LeRae with some great heel tactics. Blackheart reversed a suplex, and they fought on the apron. Blackheart posted, and then takes a codebreaker of sorts on the apron. The show cut to a commercial with both down and out. The show returned from break, and they were fighting in the ring with renewed energy.

Blackheart with strikes had LeRae wobbly, and Blackheart hit a senton for a near fall. Climbing the turnbuckles, Blackheart off the top rope with a senton bomb met double knees from LeRae. Blackheart was still able to kick out at two.

LeRae with a super German suplex, and she followed that with a superkick. Blackeart still kicked out, and she answered back with a Tiger Suplex for a two count. LeRae struck with a backstabber, and then a lionsault. Nevertheless, Blackheart kicked out again.

Blackheart with a modified version of cattle mutilation, forcing LeRae to seek shelter in the ropes. Blackheart with flying Thesz press, and she climbed the ropes again. LeRae rolled outside the ring. Indi Hartwell was watching the match from ringside. She handed LeRae a set of brass knux.

LeRae punched Blackheart with the knux, and she covered Blackheart for a tainted pinfall victory.

Drake Maverick showed Killian Dain new ideas he had for matching gear and a team name. Dain was not impressed, but he grew angry when he found out they were booked in a tag team match tonight against Imperium.

Toni Storm defeat Aliyah (with Robert Stone)

Strom was back with a vengeance. She kicked butt in a showcase match.

Storm with tons of fire at the outset. Aliyah got some offense, but this was about making Storm look like a badass. Success!

Storm finished the match with a running lariat and Storm Zero. She then covered Aliyah for the pinfall.

William Regal announced that Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Gonzalez is offical for the “Halloween Havoc” episode of NXT. Xia Li approached Regal to ask about making a grudge match. Regal several times told her he would take it into consideration.

Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) defeated Killian Dain & Drake Maverick

Barthel pinned Maverick to win the match.

Heat on Maverick as Imperium pummeled him. Hot tag to Dain, and he mows down Imperium. The numbers get the better of Dain, and he is taken down with a double team. Dain rallied to tag Maverick.

Maverick was running wild, while Dain got shoved into the ring steps. Maverick off the top was caught in the arms of Aichner, and Aichner dealifted him into a brainbuster. Imperium then executed a Doomsday uppercut, and Barthel covered Maverick for the pinfall.

Ever-Rise came out after the match to bully Maverick. They were picking on him when Dain leveled them with dual lariats. “Nobody hits you but me,” Dain screamed to Maverick. That does not seem healthy.

NXT North American Champion Damian Priest defeated Dexter Lumis to retain his title

This show was going so well, and then came a Dexter Lumis match. Not a bad match, but I just don’t get this gimmick at all. He looks mean and intimidating, but he also has a silly moustache. Who can take that seriously? And his hometown is Recluse, Wyoming. Seriously? That’s almost as convenient as Bunkhouse Buck being from Bucksnort, Tennessee. What isn’t convenient is a commute from Wyoming to the Capital Wrestling Center in Florida. No wonder Lumis is so upset every week.

Lumis was giving Priest a run for his money. Maybe that moustache isn’t so silly after all. Priest answered back with strikes, and he landed a high kick that dropped Lumis. Priest with a flying elbow smash, and Falcon Arrow for a near fall.

Priest ran roughshod over Lumis during a commercial break. Lumis cut off Priest as the show returned from the break. Lumis with a spinebuster for a two count. Priest with a scissor kick, and a flatliner for a near fall.

Priest applied an ankle lock, but Lumis escaped. Lumis countered a Razor’s Edge, and he gave Priest a side suplex. Lumis with a kip up into a legdrop, and that got him a two count. Lumis crashed and burned on a senton bomb. Priest hit him with a lariat, but Lumis countered to apply his vice finisher. Priest the toe of his boot on the bottom rope to break the hold.

Lumis was on a roll when Cameron Grimes ran in to give Lumis a Cave In on the apron. Priest, seemingly unaware of the interference, then used South of Heaven to score a pinfall.

The closing scene had a lot of stuff going on. Priest first put on his leather vest, and then he gave Grimes a Reckoning.

Gargano in a surprise attack jumped Priest on the stage as he was leaving. He hit Priest with a chair. Gargano kicked the chair into Priest’s face, laying him out. LeRae came out to join her husband on the stage. Regal entered the scene to address them.

Regal said that LeRae is facing Io Shirai in a title match at Halloween Havoc. He also said Gargano is set to face Priest in a title match on that night as well. Regal then threw to Blackheart, who is the host of Halloween Havoc. She announced that both of the couple’s titles matches will be SPIN THE WHEEL, MAKE A DEAL!

Two matches, Elias concert set for WWE Raw season premiere

Two matches and a concert were announced for next week’s Raw.

Lana won a battle royal on tonight’s show to earn a title match against Raw Women’s champion Asuka next week. The finish had Natalya eliminate Lacey Evans to seemingly win the battle royal. However Lana, who earlier was put through a table but not eliminated, appeared and kicked Natalya to the floor to eliminate her, winning the match.

An angle earlier in the show broke up the team. Following a loss to the team of Dana Brooke & Mandy Rose, Natalya told Lana that “she couldn’t do this anymore.”

Keith Lee will face Braun Strowman in a sanctioned match. Since Strowman was not a part of the Raw brand, Adam Pearce made an exhibition match between Strowman and Lee on last week’s Raw that ended in a double count out. Strowman has since been drafted to Raw, setting up the match for next week.

Additionally, Elias will hold a concert. He made his return to the company on tonight’s show, attacking Jeff Hardy with a guitar. He blamed Hardy for the hit and run attack that took him out in May and declared he would be holding a concert on next week’s show.

WWE Raw video highlights: The Hurt Business & RETRIBUTION brawl

A brawl between The Hurt Business and RETRIBUTION broke out after the main event of last night’s “In Your Face” edition of Raw.

A non-title match between WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and Keith Lee headlined last night’s show. The match had a stipulation where — following the angle where Randy Orton was laid out by three Claymores by McIntyre last week — Lee would have taken Orton’s place at Clash of Champions if he defeated McIntyre last night and Orton isn’t able to wrestle at the pay-per-view. Instead, McIntyre vs. Lee ended in a no contest after being interrupted by RETRIBUTION.

MVP, Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander then made their way out and brawled with RETRIBUTION. The show ended with McIntyre and Lee hitting simultaneous flip dives onto a pile outside of the ring.

Alexander defeated Ricochet earlier on last night’s Raw. As The Hurt Business were celebrating, RETRIBUTION appeared on the video screen and cut a promo. They said they once believed that their time at the Performance Center would lead them to fame and wealth, but they refuse to suck up to an entitled regime. They said they’re the product of empty promises and the result of lies, greed, and betrayal. They called WWE a corrupt machine and an entity that casts people aside like garbage.

After the RETRIBUTION promo, The Hurt Business approached Adam Pearce backstage. MVP mentioned that Pearce will need to find a solution to the RETRIBUTION problem soon or Pearce will be out of a job. MVP said it’s time for Pearce to upgrade his security from boys to men. Pearce thanked MVP for volunteering, but MVP said they don’t do charity work and he’ll be sending Pearce a bill.

Dominik Dijakovic, Mercedes Martinez, Dio Maddin, Mia Yim, and Shane Thorne are the five featured members of RETRIBUTION.

WWE Raw live results: ‘In Your Face Monday’

Date: September 14, 2020
Location: Amway Center in Orlando, FL

The Big Takeaway —

The match between Drew McIntyre and Keith Lee ended in a no-contest after Retribution attacked. If Lee had won the match, he would have earned a title shot at Clash of Champions if Randy Orton isn’t cleared in time.

Seth Rollins beat Dominik in a cage match, Asuka retained her title over Mickie James (which had a strange finish), the Street Profits beat Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura clean, and Kevin Owens beat Aleister Black with help from flickering lights.

Also, Smackdown’s Braun Strowman appeared on Raw Underground.

Show Recap —

The show kicked off with thunder sound/video effects.

Michael Cole, Dolph Ziggler and Byron Saxton are tonight’s announcers. Cole said Tom Phillips and Samoa Joe were off this week. (Phillips was off last week, too.)

Drew McIntyre entered. There was a long recap of his angle with Randy Orton. It was 8:07pm by the time he spoke.

McIntyre knew that Orton intended to do more than fracture his jaw and Orton should be lucky that he still has his head after last week. McIntyre was advised to take more time off but if he did so he’d have to surrender the WWE title, which he wasn’t about to do. McIntyre would willingly leave the arena in an ambulance every week if it meant keeping the title.

McIntyre proposed that they have an ambulance match for the title at Clash of Champions because clearly the rules don’t apply to them anymore. McIntyre realized Orton may not make it to COC because of the “most deadly weapon in all of sports entertainment.”

McIntyre recalled coming up with the Claymore kick basically by accident a few years ago because his pants were too tight and he didn’t want to rip the crotch. McIntyre showed an awful photoshop of all of his Claymore victims recently (including Brock Lesnar). It was even worse than the picture Orton showed a few weeks ago.

Adam Pearce came out (and a graphic identified him as a WWE official). Pearce said Orton may not be able to compete at COC so if Lee beats McIntyre tonight, and if Orton can’t make it to COC, then Lee will get the title shot instead. McIntyre wondered who put Pearce in charge.

Lee entered and shook hands with McIntyre. McIntyre was about to leave but Lee pulled him close. Lee was about to leave but McIntyre did the same. Then they cut to commercial.

(I should mention that they also added fake crowd laughing when McIntyre showed the photoshopped picture.)

Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defeated SmackDown Tag Team Champions Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura in a non-title match (9:26)

Montez Ford went for a dive but Cesaro and Nakamura caught him before dropping him hard on the edge of the barricade, which looked painful. After a break, “we want the smoke” chants played on the speakers.

Angelo Dawkins tagged in and hit Nakamura with clotheslines, a spinning back elbow and t-bone suplex for two. Cole noted that Dawkins has lost weight and is quicker now. Nakamura came back with a sliding German suplex but Dawkins caught him with a spinebuster.

Ford went for a frog splash but Nakamura got his knees up which led to a two count. Cesaro used the big swing and Nakamura hit a dropkick but Dawkins broke up the cover. Cesaro kicked out of a schoolboy and hit a big uppercut for a nearfall. He followed with a series of uppercuts in the corner.

Cesaro hit a superplex but Dawkins had made a blind tag. Dawkins gave Cesaro a frog splash for the pinfall win. Street Profits win clean.

A fine match and it was nice seeing a different matchup. Feels like it’s been months since we’ve seen the Street Profits face anyone other than Andrade and Angel Garza.

Lana spoke with Garza backstage. Lana thought it was crazy that Mickie James was getting a title shot when it should be Natalya instead. Garza started flirting with her but was quickly interrupted by Zelina Vega and Andrade. Lana left.

Vega wasn’t happy with his recent actions. Garza was tired of being blamed for everything and noted that the golden boy Andrade was the one who got pinned. Andrade and Garza argued until Vega interrupted them. She said she couldn’t do this anymore and stormed off. Garza shoved Andrade and they brawled (and they cut quickly to commercial).

Dominik was shown with his family backstage.

Hurt Business promo

MVP said business was booming and put over each guy. Alexander said everyone was throwing shade at him on social media for abandoning his brothers.

Alexander said this was his job and he had to do what he needed to succeed. The fans didn’t know what it was like being beaten down every week by the three baddest men this industry has ever seen. Being with Ricochet and Apollo Crews left him empty and broken.

Ricochet and Crews interrupted. Crews said Alexander sold them out and was weak-minded. Crews said they always had his back but Alexander disagreed. Ricochet wasn’t going to try reasoning with him because he knew there was no talking him out of it. Ricochet said the Hurt Business coming after him every week was nothing compared to what they would do.

Cedric Alexander (w/Hurt Business) defeated Ricochet (w/Apollo Crews) (8:20)

Early in the match, Crews attacked Benjamin outside the ring after he tried to interfere. Ivar ran out to attack Bobby Lashley and they brawled to the back (they have a match later).

Ricochet hit a nice superkick and dragon suplex. Alexander avoided a dive and hit a Michinoku Driver for two. Alexander came right back with a Lumber Check for the pinfall win.

The celebration was quickly interrupted by a Retribution promo on the screen. They hate the machine and we’re all bad for liking the machine. There were initially five Retribution members on the screen but when the promo was over, even more members joined. Hurt Business watched their backs after the promo but nothing happened.

Sarah Schrieber interviewed Mickie James. James loved the industry and loved that the industry pushed her to be at her best. High stakes matches like tonights against Asuka brought out the best in her. It was clear to her that she always had what it took to be champion and she knew that tonight could be her last chance to win the title. Good promo.

[Second hour]

Pearce yelled at security backstage. He was approached by Hurt Business who proposed he updated his security from boys to men or else he could be out of a job. Pearce accepted and thanked them for volunteering. They laughed at him for thinking they were volunteering. MVP said they would send him a bill.

Asuka defeated Mickie James to retain the Raw Women’s Championship (11:48)

James was in control early but Asuka took over after a knee strike got her a two count. Asuka missed a hip attack and James caught her with a Mick Kick but Asuka fell to the outside and they went to break.

James used a hurricanrana out of the corner but Asuka followed with a hip attack. James came back with a flapjack and used a Thesz press off the turnbuckles for two. They exchanged strikes which Asuka got the better of after hitting a spinning back fist. Asuka followed with Yes kicks but James blocked a shining wizard and applied a single leg grab.

James tried a Boston grab but Asuka countered into a rollup for two. James followed with a Mick Kick (which looked like it missed) and only got two after Asuka got a rope break. They showed a replay of James’ Mick Kick from before the break instead of the one she just tried.

Asuka applied an Asuka Lock and James floated over into what appeared to be a cover. The ref called for the bell as if James submitted which seemed to catch her completely by surprise. The announcers were very confused. The ring announcer said the referee determined that James could not continue so Asuka was the winner. This was very strange.

Vega entered to confront Asuka as the ref checked on James outside the ring. Vega was tired of wasting her time managing two ingrates. She claimed Asuka was handed the belt by Becky Lynch and called herself one of the best in the business. Asuka basically laughed in her face so Vega slapped her. Asuka was about to go after Vega but she bailed.

US Champion Bobby Lashley defeated Erik in a non-title match (2:08)

MVP joined commentary in place of Ziggler. Cole talked about Ivar’s injury. MVP took credit for the injury.

Erik hit a few knee strikes for two but Lashley came back with a spinebuster and Dominator variant for a nearfall. Lashley applied the Hurt Lock (full nelson) for the submission win.

Schrieber asked Kevin Owens if he knew why Aleister Black targetted him. Owens said no. Maybe it was something he said, maybe it was because Hot Topic wouldn’t honour his 40% coupon, or maybe it was because he sat in a dark room for over a year asking for someone to knock on his door and almost nobody did.

Owens didn’t care why. All he cared about was how he can inflict enough pain and punishment for Black to run back to his little hiding spot. He wanted Black to learn what happens when you pick a fight with him. He told Schrieber he wasn’t worried because “I’m Kevin Owens.” After Owens left, Black appeared and smirked. Owens was very good here.

Braun Strowman approached Shane McMahon outside of the Raw Underground room. He warned Shane not to step in the way of his path of destruction. He wanted Shane’s best fighter. Shane let him in the room and was very excited.

Saxton was beside himself trying to figure out why Strowman was at Raw Underground. Cole said anyone can show up to Underground.

A sheepish Murphy approached Seth Rollins in the locker room. Rollins was happy to see him. Murphy was ashamed over what the Mysterio family did to him last week. Rollins understood and said atonement was part of the process. Rollins said the steel cage match was the perfect opportunity to send a lesson.

Rollins had an important role for him. Murphy said he was ready. Rollins smacked him in the face, grabbed him by the beard and demanded he stay in the back. Rollins smacked him again and demanded that he say that he understood. Murphy said, “yes sir.”

There was a Kit Kat commercial with R-Truth and Liv Morgan. Truth spoke to the candy and Morgan took one for herself.

The announcers talked about the Mandy Rose trade. No return was announced.

Dominik told Caruso that he can’t back down from any challenges. Rey said that he and Angie were probably more concerned than Dominik but they were there for support. Rey said Rollins was the one that needed to be worried.

MVP is still on commentary, so perhaps Ziggler is done for the night.

Steel Cage Match: Seth Rollins defeated Dominik Mysterio (w/Rey, Angie & Aalyah Mysterio) (11:54)

Rollins stopped Dominik from escaping the cage very early in the match but Dominik came back with a DDT for two. Murphy appeared and handed Rollins a kendo stick and he used it to attack Dominik. Rey seemed concerned but didn’t immediately go after Murphy for some reason. They abruptly went to commercial as Cole was talking.

[Third hour]

Rollins rubbed Dominik’s face against the cage but Dominik fought back and tossed him into the cage. Mysterio handed Dominik a kendo stick and he used it on Rollins. Dominik repeatedly tossed Rollins into the cage before hitting a spinebuster for two. Rollins tried throwing him into the cage but Dominik held on and started climbing.

Rollins went after him and crotched him. Dominik swept Rollins’ leg, so Rollins was also crotched on the top, a spot that MVP appreciated. Dominik crawled toward the door as Rey encouraged him but Murphy attacked Rey.

Murphy swung the door at who he thought was Dominik but it was actually Rollins. Murphy tried climbing the outside of the cage but Dominik knocked him off. Dominik gave Rollins a frog splash for two. Dominik tried crawling out but Rollins caught him and hit a big superplex and falcon arrow for a nearfall.

Dominik tried a schoolboy but Rollins kicked out and hit consecutive curb stomps for the pinfall win. This was good.

Rollins attacked Murphy after the match and swung the cage door in his face. (Rey slipped into the ring to check on Dominik.) As Rollins left, he told Angie that he hoped they did a better job raising Aalyah.

Angie and Aalyah went into the ring to check on Dominik. Aalyah quickly checked on Murphy right before that.

Raw Underground

Ziggler quickly submitted some guy. Riddick Moss fought him next. As they fought, Strowman charged in and knocked Ziggler out of the ring before taking down Moss. Ziggler tried fighting back but Strowman took him down again.

Caruso interviewed McIntyre. He hoped that Lee would do everything he can to win the title. He knew Lee was annoyed that he interfered in his match but noted that he only did so after Orton gave him an RKO. Lee interrupted. He told McIntyre that he didn’t want him dragging his name and reputation. Lee recalled beating Orton when McIntyre did not interfere.

Lee thought McIntyre was worried about him. McIntyre said he wasn’t afraid and Lee said that he should be. Lee was about to touch his title belt but McIntyre smacked his hand away and warned him not to. Lee wouldn’t move his hand so McIntyre punched him in the face. Lee tackled him and this led to a brawl that was eventually broken up by officials.

Raw Underground

Strowman took out some guy before knocking down Moss again. Titus O’Neil jumped in and tackled him but Strowman beat him up. Shane and an official had to stop him.

Kevin Owens defeated Aleister Black

Black attacked Owens from behind before the match could start. They went to break and the match was underway when they returned. Owens seemed fine until Black began targetting the leg. Black applied a kneebar and Owens really sold like he might tap but he got a rope break. Owens came back with a superkick before falling back down.

Owens couldn’t stand so Black got ready to set up a Black Mass. However, he was distracted by the lights flickering so Owens gave him a stunner for the pinfall win.

MVP wondered if somebody was going to do something about the lights. Cole reminded him that they offered to stop Retribution.

Lee found McIntyre in the back and attacked him. They brawled until Pearce broke them up and threatened to cancel the match tonight and at COC.

I think Pearce should make a rule that if you interfere in a match you get fired.

Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan defeated Natalya & Lana (1:15)

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler did commentary. They defend the tag titles against Ruby and Morgan at COC. Ruby wore black gear to match Morgan (after Morgan had gear matching Ruby for a few weeks).

Ruby and Morgan won quickly after Morgan gave Lana a modified Codebreaker and Ruby followed with a Riott Kick.

After the match, Baszler chucked Natalya into the ring post and Jax gave Lana a Samoan drop through the announce table. Read into that what you will.

Raw Underground

Strowman took out some guy before being challenged by Moss again. Strowman immediately knocked him down with a right hand. Ziggler jumped in and double-teamed Strowman with Moss. Strowman beat them both up anyway.

Dabba-Kato stepped in the ring and confronted Strowman but Shane excitedly said they could fight next week. I’m not sure why they listened to him but they decided not to fight.

Non-title match: WWE Champion Drew McIntyre vs. Keith Lee ended in a no contest

Cole said there would be an ambulance match at COC for the title regardless of if it was Orton or Lee. Both McIntyre and Lee were all-business during their entrances.

Lee booted McIntyre in his injured jaw before knocking him out of the ring. Cole said Lee was in control 35 seconds into the match as they went to break.

Lee hit him in the jaw again but McIntyre fought back and did an impressive belly-to-belly suplex followed by a flying clothesline. Lee blocked a DDT but McIntyre hit a spinebuster for two. Lee came back with a clothesline for two.

They fought on the turnbuckles and Lee nailed a superplex off the second rope for two. After Mcintyre slipped out of a spirit bomb attempt, they collided with crossbody attempts.

As they got to their feet, Retribution appeared (at least a dozen members). Lee and McIntyre attacked them but they were overwhelmed. Retribution beat up both guys as booing played on the speakers. (The match was just under 10 minutes long.)

The Hurt Business came out onto the stage. They marched down to the ring and brawled with Retribution.

The show ended with McIntyre and Lee each hitting flip dives onto the group knocking everyone down.

Two matches added to ‘In Your Face’ edition of WWE Raw

Two matches have been added to what WWE is billing as an “In Your Face” edition of Raw.

Dominik Mysterio and Seth Rollins will face off in a steel cage match on Monday’s Raw. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre vs. Keith Lee in a non-title match is also set for the show.

The “In Your Face” tagline for Monday’s episode of Raw was announced during SmackDown tonight. The show will also feature Asuka vs. Mickie James for the Raw Women’s Championship and Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura in a non-title champions vs. champions match.

In the main event of Raw this past Monday, Dominik defeated Murphy in a street fight. Murphy quit as the Mysterio family gave him kendo stick shots. Rollins defeated Dominik on Raw the previous week and then laid him out with a stomp after the match.

After being laid out with three punts by Randy Orton two weeks ago, McIntyre returned to WWE television on Raw this week and returned the favor. He gave Orton three Claymores, with Orton being taken out by ambulance as part of the angle. One of the Claymores came when McIntyre interrupted Orton’s match against Lee.

Monday’s Raw will face competition from the season debut of Monday Night Football.

WWE Raw live results: Keith Lee vs. Randy Orton rematch

Date: September 7, 2020
Location: Amway Center in Orlando, FL

The Big Takeaway —

Drew McIntyre returned and got some revenge on Randy Orton, laying him out with three Claymore Kicks throughout the show. Orton had to be taken away in an ambulance.

The show ended with a fun main event that saw the Mysterio family beat the absolute crap out of Murphy.

Also, Cedric Alexander joined the Hurt Business.

Next week: Mickie James faces Asuka for the Raw Women’s title. Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura take on the Street Profits.

Show Recap —

Michael Cole, Byron Saxton and Samoa Joe are on commentary. Cole said Tom Phillips is off this week.

Randy Orton came out to start the show. Orton bragged about beating Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and Keith Lee last week and couldn’t believe he still has to face Lee again after all of that. He threatened to kick Lee in the head. He wanted to list all of the people he has kicked in the head but didn’t have enough time because Raw is only three hours.

He wondered if Drew McIntyre would be able to make it to Clash of Champions and recapped what he did to him before showing a replay. He said they should hand him the WWE title if McIntyre couldn’t make it to COC.

A siren noise began playing and an ambulance drove to the stage area. McIntyre emerged from the driver’s seat, marched to the ring (as his music played), and clocked Orton with a Claymore kick. McIntyre began hammering away at Orton until officials broke it up.

McIntyre easily wiping out Orton was cool but I have no idea why he drove down in an ambulance.

The Hurt Business was shown walking through the back earlier today. A building cleaner said hi to them but MVP accused him of saying something about Shelton Benjamin’s mother. Bobby Lashley held him against a wall as he pleaded with them. MVP accused him of calling him a liar. They couldn’t be reasoned with so Benjamin kicked him low and they walked off as if nothing happened.

McIntyre told Adam Pearce that he would be at COC no matter what. Pearce understood but stated that McIntyre wasn’t cleared tonight. He didn’t want another incident like earlier so he asked McIntyre to leave. McIntyre said he already did what he came here to do so he agreed to leave. Pearce told security he didn’t want any more problems tonight.

6-man tag match: US Champion Bobby Lashley, MVP & Shelton Benjamin defeated Apollo Crews, Ricochet & Cedric Alexander (4:28)

The Hurt Business attacked Alexander during his entrance. Alexander turned on his team during the match.

Crews tried making a tag to Ricochet but Alexander yanked him off the apron, attacked him and tossed him into the barricade. Alexander also attacked Crews and gave a Lumbar Check. Benjamin finished off Crews with Paydirt for the pinfall win.

The Hurt Business were all smiles. Alexander smiled back but did not immediately join them.

(I’m not sure if this is a new addition this week, but the piped-in crowd noise now counts along with the fall.)

Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defeated Andrade & Angel Garza (w/Zelina Vega) in a non-title match (1:58)

Again.

There was a replay of Garza ditching his friends last week when Retribution attacked. Andrade and Vega blew passed him on the ramp during their entrance.

Garza argued with Vega on the outside as Andrade demanded that he pay attention. Garza began leaving knowing full well that Andrade was in trouble. Angelo Dawkins gave Andrade a spinebuster and Montez Ford followed with a big frog splash for the pinfall win. Garza seemed perfectly content.

Smackdown tag champs Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura entered the stage with the Profits still in the ring. Cole wondered if they were here as part of the brand-to-brand invitational and said that like it’s been a regular thing.

Cesaro and Nakamura were in the ring after a break. Cesaro said he was surprised to learn that the Profits were the longest-reigning Raw tag champs in years. Nakamura made a joke about them being too busy playing basketball and fighting ninjas. Cesaro said they were taking advantage of the “quarterly brand-to-brand invitational.”

Nakamura was about to say, “we want the smoke” but Dawkins interrupted him. Ford said Cesaro has had so many partners that he should get an STI test. Ford said they would have a champions vs. champions match next week. He was about to say “we want the smoke” but Nakamura finished it off for him. Cole fake laughed.

R-Truth was having dinner in a suite in the arena. His order came but it was actually a ninja hidden inside a food cart. Tozawa showed up too. He managed to evade them and walked away with the food cart. This was very dumb.

Peyton Royce defeated Billie Kay (2:42)

They each had new, generic music. Kay’s entrance referred to her as “Femme Fatale.” Royce wore red, Kay wore gold.

They exchanged slaps early on. The match went back-and-forth until Royce won with a spinning brainbuster. Royce helped Kay to her feet after the match and hugged her.

They plugged Dominik Mysterio vs. Murphy and referred to Murphy as an ex-disciple of Seth Rollins. The Mysterio family was shown walking through the back and Murphy could be seen watching them.

[Second hour]

Mysterio family in-ring interview

Charly Caruso introduced Rey Mysterio, Dominik, Angie and Aalyah. Mysterio couldn’t wait to get his hand on Rollins when his injury healed. Mysterio knew that Murphy was out for vengeance but Dominik was ready.

Before Dominik could say anything, Murphy interrupted on the screen. Murphy blamed them for Rollins leaving him. Murphy wanted to end Dominik’s career before it began. Murphy challenged him to a street fight. Dominik accused Murphy of hurting his family as much as Rollins so he accepted.

Murphy was pleased. He invited the Mysterio to watch from ringside. Dominik warned him not to lay a finger on his family.

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler each have to face the Riott Squad tonight in separate handicap matches. In the back, Baszler asked Pearce why she had to do this. Pearce said Jax claimed that Baszler could fight them both but decided to make them each have the same fight. This was news to Jax.

Pearce saw McIntyre walk by him and wondered what he was still doing there. McIntyre basically told him to relax and walked away.

Raw Women’s Champion Asuka & Mickie James defeated Natalya & Lana (4:50)

James faces Asuka for the title next week.

The heels worked over James. Lana almost pinned her with an X-Factor but Asuka broke up the cover. Natalya chucked Asuka from the ring. James gave Lana a neckbreaker but Asuka wasn’t on the apron for a tag.

James went to the top but Asuka reemerged and tagged herself in. Asuka put Lana in the Asuka Lock as James took out Natalya. Lana tapped out while the camera was focused on James/Natalya on the outside.

In the back, MVP asked Alexander if he was ready to make it official in the VIP Lounge. Alexander said yes. MVP and Lashley left. Benjamin stayed back with Alexander to tell him this better not be some game or else he will find out.

MVP’s VIP Lounge

Alexander entered with the Hurt Business. MVP introduced him as their newest member. Benjamin was still skeptical. Alexander said he was tired of being on the wrong end of a beat-down and was ready to learn and earn (money).

He called Ricochet selfish and wondered why he was sacrificing his own career for the benefit of Crews’. He called Hurt Business the future.

The Viking Raiders’ music hit and they entered with Crews and Ricochet. The four of them sprinted to the ring and attacked the Hurt Business and quickly cleared the ring.

8-man tag match: The Hurt Business defeated The Viking Raiders, Ricochet & Apollo Crews (10:15)

Everyone traded moves which led to Ivar taking out the Hurt Business with a suicide dive. Alexander avoided a 630 splash by Ricochet and nailed a Michinoku Driver for the pinfall win. Ricochet actually kicked out but the referee counted anyway. This seemed like the planned finish but they did show a replay of Ricochet kicking out before three.

Caruso interviewed McIntyre, basically asking why he was still here. He claimed he couldn’t find his phone or the exit. He said he would do his best to find his phone.

Kevin Owens approached Shane McMahon outside of the Raw Underground room. Shane admitted they’ve had problems but it was all water under the bridge. Owens called him a jackass. Shane opened the door for him.

[Third hour]

Randy Orton defeated Keith Lee via DQ (6:20)

Orton tried stalling so Lee went after him. Orton took over quickly after thumbing him in the eye (with the referee’s sight obstructed).

Orton went for the RKO but Lee didn’t even budge, which made him look strong. Lee knocked Orton from the ring and went for a pounce but Orton simply dropped down and Lee just ran over him and collided with the barricade, which made him look dumb.

Orton applied a chinlock but Lee got to his feet with Orton still on his back. Orton tried an RKO but Lee slipped out of it. Lee followed with a splash, elbow strike and powerslam for two.

Orton slipped off of Lee’s shoulders and hit an RKO. McIntyre then flew into the ring and gave Orton a Claymore Kick for the DQ. McIntyre said he wanted Orton to see him in his nightmares.

This was basically the third time Orton has had Lee beat without actually pinning him.

Raw Underground

Aleister Black beat some guy quickly with a Black Mass. Shane said they were still waiting on Kevin Owens, who we saw enter the room earlier.

Owens appeared and tackled Black. They brawled for a few seconds until Owens gave Black a back body drop on the outside and that left both guys hurt somehow. Shane promptly cut to commercial and said there was more Underground later.

After a break, Orton yelled at Pearce for not doing his job. Pearce assured him that he escorted McIntyre out of the building. Orton said his word meant nothing to him.

2-on-1 handicap match: Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan defeated Shayna Baszler (w/Nia Jax) (2:32)

Baszler was in control of Morgan but was distracted by Jax mocking her offense. Morgan used the distraction to slip out of a move and rollup Baszler for the pinfall win. Jax was amused.

Raw Underground

Owens and Black were back at it. Black had him in an armbar but Owens slung him out of the ring into the wall. Owens bumped into somebody so he and Black each began punching random people.

2-on-1 handicap match: Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan vs. Nia Jax (w/Shayna Baszler) ended in a no contest

This went about three minutes before they were interrupted by Retribution. Morgan made a tag as the lights began flickering. Ruby gave Jax a Riott Kick and Morgan followed with a modified Codebreaker. The lights continued to flicker as Jax kicked out at two. The lights went out.

Retribution appeared on the screen. They have their own logo now. They spoke with their voices altered. They said WWE discarded and disowned them. They were driven to destroy every superstar and fan. The darkness of retribution will seep into the pores of every superstar. We are Retribution.

Mysterio told Sarah Schreiber that they were not intimated by Murphy’s words and knew he was just trying to get into Rollins’ good graces again. If Murphy tried anything, they knew how to handle themselves.

Raw Underground

Owens and Black were at it again. Owens used a double foot stomp, which I’m sure he couldn’t wait to do in this fake shoot fight. Owens bumped into Dabba-Katto, so Dabba-Katto laid him out with a slam. Black tried to take advantage but Dabba-Katto gave him a chokeslam. That was that.

Orton was limping through the back with his luggage when Caruso tried to interview him. McIntyre attacked him again and tossed him into the half-ring they have set up for interviews before giving him another Claymore.

Orton was taken away in an ambulance (like McIntyre was several weeks ago).

Street Fight: Dominik Mysterio (w/Rey Mysterio, Angie & Aalyah) defeated Murphy (14:10)

Dominik, Rey and Aalyah each entered holding kendo sticks.

Murphy immediately kneed Dominik before launching him over the announce table. Murphy had his eyes on the Mysterio family but Dominik attacked him and launched him over the table. They fought toward the “crowd” when Dominik climbed on top of the front row of screens and jumped off with a big dive on Murphy. (A few fans were very excited to be focused on here.)

Dominik was still in control after a break. Murphy fought him off and slammed him into the edge of the ramp. Murphy tried shoving Dominik’s eye in the steps but he fought back briefly before Murphy dropped him over the barricade. Murphy attacked with a steel chair and covered him for two.

Dominik tried a DDT but Murphy launched him three times into the ring post. Murphy tied him up in the ropes and tried attacking with the kendo stick but Dominik kicked him away. Murphy went for the kendo stick but Rey grabbed it away from him. With Murphy on the outside, Angie and Aalyah freed Dominik from the ropes.

Dominik then ran toward the ropes and hit a sunset flip bomb sending Muprhy into a table on the outside, which looked awesome. Dominik followed with a frog splash but Murphy kicked out.

Rey and Dominik tied up Murphy in the ropes and took turns hitting him with the kendo stick. They took off his shirt before continuing the attack. They also brought Aalyah and Angie in the ring so they could join in. Aalyah didn’t hesitate. Angie didn’t want to do it but they convinced her and she got a shot in as well.

After a few more shots, Murphy verbally submitted. Dominik wins.

After the match, the entire family just beat the crap out of Murphy with the kendo sticks as they went off the air.

This wasn’t much of a show but I very much ending the ending.

Three matches confirmed for WWE Raw

WWE has revealed three of the matches that are taking place on tonight’s Labor Day edition of Raw.

– Keith Lee and Randy Orton will face off in a rematch from Payback.

Lee defeated Orton in their match at Payback. On Raw last week, Orton won a triple threat number one contender’s match and will challenge for Drew McIntyre’s WWE Championship at Clash of Champions later this month.

Lee and Seth Rollins were the other wrestlers in the number one contender’s match. Rollins went for a stomp on Lee near the finish, but Lee countered and hit a Spirit Bomb. Orton then came into the ring, hit an RKO on Lee, and pinned Rollins to get the win.

McIntyre hasn’t appeared on WWE television since the angle where he was given three punts by Orton on Raw two weeks ago. Lee made his official Raw debut that night in a match against Orton, but McIntyre interrupted the match and went after Orton.

– Kevin Owens vs. Aleister Black will take place in Raw Underground.

Orton advanced to last week’s number one contender’s main event by defeating Owens in a qualifying match earlier in the show. Black attacked Owens before the match, but Owens chose to still compete and was quickly defeated by Orton.

Black appeared on the KO Show with Owens two weeks ago. It was Black’s first appearance since the angle where his eye was attacked by Murphy the previous month. Black snapped on Owens and laid him out with Black Mass. Black has been wearing a black bandage over his eye since it was attacked.

– Dominik Mysterio will take on Murphy.

Dominik and his father Rey Mysterio defeated Murphy & Rollins in a tag match at Payback. Rey was originally supposed to face Rollins in a qualifying match last week, but Dominik took his father’s place due to Rey suffering a partially torn triceps at Payback. Rollins defeated Dominik and then — with Dominik’s family watching on backstage — laid him out with another stomp.

WWE Raw video highlights: New number one contender decided

A series of matches on last night’s Raw determined WWE Champion Drew McIntyre’s challenger for Clash of Champions.

There were three singles matches that decided the participants for a triple threat number one contender’s match later in the night. Keith Lee defeated Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton defeated Kevin Owens, and Seth Rollins defeated Dominik Mysterio.

Owens was attacked by Aleister Black before his match against Orton. Owens decided to try and still compete but was quickly beaten with an RKO.

Rollins was originally supposed to face Rey Mysterio, but WWE announced that Mysterio suffered a torn triceps at Payback. Dave Meltzer reported that Mysterio isn’t expected to need surgery for the injury and could be out of action for two months or maybe less.

Orton won the triple threat main event and will challenge McIntyre at Clash of Champions on Sunday, September 27. Rollins was going for a stomp near the end of the match, but Lee caught him and hit a Spirit Bomb. Orton then came into the ring, hit an RKO on Lee, and pinned Rollins to win the match.

The Big Takeaway —

Randy Orton will face Drew McIntyre again for the WWE Championship at Clash of Champions. There were a series of qualifying matches that led to Orton winning a triple threat over Seth Rollins and Keith Lee.

The IIconics were abruptly broken up.

Retribution made an appearance but it was nothing significant or different.

Show Recap —

Raw opened with a tribute graphic for “Bullet” Bob Armstrong.

Randy Orton came out to start the show. The announcers said Orton’s attack on Drew McIntyre resulted in a hairline jaw fracture. They assumed that he would be ready to defend the WWE title at Clash of Champions.

They ran down qualifying matches, which would lead to a triple threat later tonight. Rey Mysterio was not medically cleared so Dominik is taking his place against Seth Rollins. (Orton stood in the ring the entire time they announced everything.)

Orton ran down McIntyre who thought he deserved to be champion but all he really deserved was to live in pain and eat out of a straw. Orton talked about what he did to all the legends recently and agreed with McIntyre that he was entitled. He didn’t think he should have to face Kevin Owens to qualify for another title shot because he was entitled to one.

Orton was willing to jump through those hurdles to beat McIntyre for the title — if he can even make it to Clash of Champions. Orton said McIntyre wasn’t here tonight but heard that he was hanging out with a few legends. He showed a photoshopped image of McIntyre, Edge, Christian, Big Show, Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels together in a lineup of hospital beds.

Keith Lee interrupted. Lee noted that Orton was doing everything he could to forget about what happened last night when Lee beat him. Lee said Orton may be the greatest ever but it was factual that Orton had to bask in his glory last night. A win over Orton should perhaps put him next in line for the title.

Lee began talking about McIntyre, who he considered a good friend, when he was attacked from behind by Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler gave Lee a DDT as Orton slowly backed out of the ring and they went to break.

Keith Lee defeated Dolph Ziggler (10:54)

Ziggler had Lee down in a chinlock about three minutes into the match. Lee got to his feet but Ziggler followed with a dropkick. Lee used a pounce to send Ziggler out of the ring and they went to break four minutes into the match. (Nothing besides this match has happened since the previous break.)

Lee was in control after the break but Ziggler raked his face and used a Fameasser for two. Ziggler followed with a neckbreaker and elbow drop for two. Lee fought out of another chinlock and used fists and powerslam. He didn’t go for a cover for some reason so Ziggler managed to hit a Zig-Zag for a nearfall.

Lee blocked a superkick and hit a spirit bomb for the pinfall win. Lee advances to the triple threat number one contender’s match later tonight.

Sarah Schrieber interviewed Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. They disagreed on whose plan won them the titles. Baszler said she’s the one who put Bayley to sleep using Sasha Banks as a weapon. Jax said that was easy to do because she tossed them around all match.

Asuka danced into the frame. Schrieber asked if Asuka has found her next opponent after she demanded to know who it would be earlier tonight. She said no. Baszler and Jax weren’t happy with her stealing their interview time. Asuka shoved Baszler and yelled in Jax’s face before leaving.

Adam Pearce was with security in the back demanding they do their jobs and keep Retribution out of the arena or else he would find new security.

Asuka in-ring interview

Charly Caruso asked Asuka who deserved a title shot. Asuka laughed. She listed all of the women she has defeated including Becky Lynch, Bayley, Ruby Riott, Nia Jax and Sasha Banks.

Mickie James interrupted. She said she recognized greatness when she saw it and called Asuka one of the greatest champions of all-time. James declared that she was coming for the title.

Natalya and Lana (in her gear) interrupted. (Lana’s gear said “Lana Day.”) Lana said James has failed to adapt whereas she was a trendsetter. James thought that was amusing. James got in Lana’s face and Asuka interrupted to say she was ready for all of them.

James got in Asuka’s face before they were attacked by Natalya and Lana. James and Asuka fought back and sent them from the ring.

There was a Connor’s Cure video.

Cedric Alexander was with the Viking Raiders backstage when Demi Burnett entered the frame to wish them luck tonight. She was impressed that Alexander turned down the Hurt Business. She also gave Ivar a kiss on the cheek. Ivar was happy. Angel Garza showed up with a rose after everyone left. He smirked.

Mickie James defeated Lana (w/Natalya) (2:41)

James won relatively quickly was a Mick Kick on her birthday. (Asuka was on commentary. James pointed at her after the win and Asuka was ready for the potential challenge.)

Caruso was outside of Aleister Black’s locker room and wanted to get a comment about his attack on Owens last week. Orton emerged from the room instead. He left without comment. Caruso was confused.

[Second hour]

They announced that the Riott Squad would face the IIconics tonight. The winning team would earn a tag title shot. The losing team would have to disband. There was no explanation for this.

Schrieber interviewed the IIconics. Billie Kay talked about their history and becoming friends over their shared dream to become wrestlers. Peyton Royce said they sacrificed a lot to get here. Kay said only a halfwit would think the Riott Squad could beat them. Royce said the Riott Squad were destined to break up and they would just help the process along.

Randy Orton defeated Kevin Owens (0:15)

Black attacked Owens during his entrance. Black tossed him into the side of the ring and gave him a Black Mass before pushing him in the ring.

The referee didn’t want to start the match but Owens told him to start it. The ref rang the bell. Owens managed to get a few shots in before Orton gave him an RKO for the pinfall win. Orton advances to the triple threat match.

Caruso was with the Mysterio family backstage. Angie and Rey’s daughter Aalyah were there. Rey said it would mean the world to him if Dominik could earn a title shot tonight. He understood that injuries happen in this industry and Dominik was the man he wanted in his place.

Dominik knew he was the underdog but his confidence was on another level after his win last night. Dominik added, “Tonight, I got a 619 with the name ‘Monday Night Messiah’ written all over it.” A completely normal sentence.

Apollo Crews and Shelton Benjamin fight in Raw Underground tonight.

MVP’s VIP Lounge

MVP and Benjamin were in the ring. MVP introduced Bobby Lashley so he could get his own entrance as the new US champ.

Lashley noted that Crews tried getting some payback after their match last night so he promised to get him back. Benjamin said he would beat Crews like a punk tonight.

MVP moved on to their match tonight when Alexander interrupted. Lashley and Benjamin were about to go after him but MVP stopped them. MVP noted that Alexander came out alone and wanted to know if he had a change of heart. Alexander responded, “hell no” and said that he didn’t come alone. The Viking Raiders attacked the Hurt Business from behind.

6-man tag match: Cedric Alexander & The Viking Raiders defeated US Champion Bobby Lashley, MVP & Shelton Benjamin (6:19)

They worked over Alexander. As he got close to a tag, Lashley and Benjamin attacked the Raiders, which the referee was fine with. MVP tried to use the distraction but Alexander used a schoolboy for the pinfall win.

MVP smiled upon losing. Lashley and Benjamin were going to attack but MVP held them back. MVP applauded the other team for their win.

The Hurt Business were beating up Alexander in the back after a break. Crews and Ricochet (both wearing Connor’s Cure shirts) ran in to back them off.

Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan defeated The IIconics (3:28)

As Ruby ran wild on Kay, Royce tried to attack but Morgan made the save. Ruby and Kay traded cradle attempts until Ruby got the final cradle for the pinfall win. Ruby and Morgan earn a tag title shot.

So, the IIconics have to break up. Kay and Royce played up this loss the way you’d expect. Tom Phillips said more than a decade of friendship was gone. They can still be friends, they just can’t team anymore.

Seth Rollins promo

Rollins was pissed at Murphy for kicking him in the head and getting pinned by Dominik. Rollins couldn’t afford any mistakes tonight so he demanded Murphy go to the back. He didn’t want to see Murphy until he figured out which side of history he wanted to be on.

Murphy tried defending himself but Rollins told him to shut up and leave. As Murphy left, Rollins smacked him in the back of the head. Murphy appeared displeased.

Murphy took one more look at Rollins from the stage when he was attacked from behind by Dominik. Rollins seemed impressed. Dominik sprinted to the ring and the ref called for the match to start when he entered.

Seth Rollins defeated Dominik Mysterio (10:01)

Dominik used a dive off the announce table early in the match which sent us to commercial.

Rollins was in control after the break, hitting a Slingblade for two. Dominik fought back and countered a buckle bomb by sending Rollins into the buckle with a leg scissors takedown. Dominik followed with a tilt-a-whirl DDT and standing moonsault for two. The announcers were selling this big as a nearfall.

Dominik followed with a dive off the top to the outside. (The Mysterio family was shown watching in the back.) Dominik hit a 619 but Rollins dodged a frog splash and hit a curb stomp for the pinfall win. Rollins advances to the triple threat match.

With the Mysterio family still watching in the back, Rollins gave Dominik another stomp. Rey ran off. (We didn’t see him appear yet even though Rollins wouldn’t have been hard to find.)

Raw Underground

Titus O’Neil beat up two guys. Riddick Moss challenged him next. O’Neil appeared to be in control until he was momentarily distracted outside the ring. Yes, outside distractions in Underground. Moss kicked him in the nuts and knocked him out with a punch for the win.

The Street Profits cut a promo on Andrade, Garza and Zelina Vega. Angelo Dawkins had a scouting report on each person written on a whiteboard. They questioned if Andrade was really Tranquilo. Dawkins accused Garza of padding his stats by handing out roses to everyone and claimed Vega was always mad because she’s so short.

Akira Tozawa tried driving into the arena but was stopped by the guy at the parking gate because he wasn’t on the list. Tozawa got out of the car and grabbed the list only to realize the list was blank. He removed the guy’s coat to reveal he was a referee. R-Truth rolled him up to win the 24/7 title. Tozawa pushed the referee in the car and drove off after Truth.

Non-title Tornado Tag Match: Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits vs. Andrade & Angel Garza (w/Zelina Vega & Demi Burnett) ended in a no-contest (approx. 8:45)

This again.

Red cups falling from the ceiling appears to be a regular part of the Street Profits’ entrance.

They did a stacked up powerbomb spot less than a minute into the match when Dawkins powerbombed everyone down. They immediately went to break.

The heels were in control after the break. Phillips said it’s been a brutal match and we’ll have to take his word for it since we’ve seen very little of it. Dawkins made a comeback by giving Andrade a suplex before hitting Garza with a spinning back elbow. Dawkins gave Andrade a bulldog but Garza broke up the cover. The heels took over until Ford broke up a cover (barely).

Ford gave Andrade an enziguri and began shaking the ropes until the lights began to flicker. Garza bailed and took Burnett with her.

Ford went for a cover but the referee bailed at some point as well.

Retribution appeared and the announcers also ran off (including Samoa Joe I guess). Retribution attacked Andrade, Ford and Dawkins in the ring while other members beat up Vega on the outside. They cut to break.

Back from break, Phillips excitedly let us know that we could stream WWE content on Peacock. He then calmly recapped what happened a moment ago with Retribution.

Pearce was shown yelling at security.

Raw Underground

Kay and Royce were in the audience and Shane McMahon told them to have a good time.

Jessamyn Duke beat Avery Taylor quickly. Marina Shafir beat someone else quickly as well via submission.

Shafir and Duke stared at the IIconics. Royce pushed Kay in the ring and Duke knocked her out with a kick. Royce didn’t seem too upset.

Crews, Ricochet and Alexander hyped each other up. Caruso approached them for an interview and noted it hasn’t been a good 24 hours for them. Crews said the old Apollo would have been happy just to have held the US title but the new Apollo wasn’t going to stop until he gets it back. Ricochet said MVP didn’t know about friendship and said they had Alexander’s back.

The Underground fight between Benjamin and Crews didn’t have a finish. They fought into the crowd which led to a brawl between the Hurt Business and the babyfaces. Lashley, MVP and Benjamin individually choked out Ricochet, Alexander and Crews without a problem. (This really made the faces look weak. Weaker than usual, I mean.)

Elsewhere, Burnett was concerned that Garza abandoned his friends. He said they were trained fighters and he wouldn’t forgive himself if something happened to her. They were about to leave but Retribution busted through the door. They saw Garza and Burnett. Garza sprinted away, leaving Burnett on her own, which was funny. Burnett ran away before they could do anything.

Number one contender’s triple threat match: Randy Orton defeated Keith Lee and Seth Rollins (11:02)

Rollins and Orton agreed to work together but Orton immediately left the ring. Rollins also left to argue with Orton. Orton said he changed his mind. Lee pulled Rollins into the ring and used a corner avalanche. Orton tried to attack from behind but Lee gave him one too. Lee took down both guys with a slingshot crossbody and they went to break.

Lee tried another crossbody after the break but Rollins gave him a superkick and followed with a flying knee off the apron. Orton then dropped Lee on the announce table before he and Rollins tossed him into the ring steps.

As Orton and Rollins struggled to get Lee in the ring, Orton kicked Rollins and gave him a draping DDT. Rollins came back with a falcon arrow for two.

Lee knocked both guys down with body blocks and chucked Rollins into Orton. Lee launched Orton toward the barricade with a big pounce. Rollins attempted a dive but Lee caught him and tossed him onto the announce table.

Rollins reversed a powerslam into a small package for two. Rollins followed with a forearm and thrust kick and set up for the curb stomp but Lee nailed a spirit bomb.

Orton slipped in and gave Lee an RKO. He frantically crawled over Lee and covered Rollins for the pinfall win. Fun match. (It was a bit silly that Orton crawled over an opponent instead of just pinning him, but I suppose you can explain it.)

Orton faces McIntyre at Clash of Champions for the title.

WWE to determine McIntyre’s Clash of Champions challenger on Raw

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre’s challenger for Clash of Champions will be determined on tonight’s episode of Raw.

WWE has announced that Keith Lee vs. Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens, and Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins will take place on Raw tonight. The winners of those singles matches will face off in a triple threat match later in the night to decide McIntyre’s challenger for Clash of Champions.

Lee defeated Orton in their match at Payback last night. Mysterio teamed with his son Dominik to defeat Rollins & Murphy at the pay-per-view.

There was a storyline on Raw last week where Orton laid out McIntyre with three punt kicks to the head. WWE originally claimed that — in storyline — medical staff feared McIntyre suffered “a skull fracture and potential brain bleeding” that could be career-ending.

A new storyline update on McIntyre was given last night, with WWE saying he “sustained a hairline jaw fracture” as a result of Orton’s punts.

McIntyre retained the WWE Championship against Orton at SummerSlam by pinning him with a backslide.

Clash of Champions is taking place on Sunday, September 27.
