New match announced for WWE NXT show in New York

WWE NXT is airing live from New York City next week, and they’ll be presenting a very big match—literally.

After their confrontation in Houston last week, Jasper Troy and Keanu Carver will be meeting one-on-one in Manhattan. The two have a combined weight of 630 pounds.

Trouble started between the two during NXT’s Booker T Appreciation Night ceremony. Carver crashed the affair, laying out several of Booker’s trainees and threatening the man himself. Troy then hit the ring to defend his mentor on Legends & Future Greats and sent Troy packing.

Troy first signed with WWE in August of 2022. Under Booker T’s watch, he won the first season of LFG, defeating Shiloh Hill in the finals. He joined the NXT roster full-time last May. He unsuccessfully challenged Oba Femi for the NXT Championship, but went on to defeat El Grande Americano (the second version) for the Speed Championship. He lost that title to Elio LeFleur last month.

Carver signed with WWE in late 2023 and spent most of his time since then competing on Evolve and Level Up. He officially joined the NXT brand in January of this year. Though he never appeared on LFG, the WWE released footage of him arguing with Booker T, with the story being that Booker had him kicked off the show.

It’s a match between two former Division I football linemen—Troy played on offense for Kansas and Northern Iowa, while Carver played defense for Temple.

NXT airs from the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, March 31. Tickets are available here

Jasper Troy wins Speed Championship on WWE NXT

A new men’s Speed Champion has been crowned.

Jasper Troy defeated El Grande Americano to win the Speed title for the first time on Tuesday. The finish had Rayo and Bravo preventing Jasper from using his chain. When the referee threw them out, one of Los Americanos slipped Americano an object that he’s used to win multiple matches. Americano went to the ring to use the weapon, but the referee caught Americano before he could use it. Americano ended up walking into the black hole slam by Jasper, scoring the win and his first title in WWE.

Americano had been Speed Champion dating back to earlier this year when the program was still running on X, winning the title in May. When the titles were moved over to NXT, El Grande Americano was nowhere to be seen until recently.

The Women’s Speed Championship will also be decided soon after a new tournament was held when Sol Ruca vacated the title due to injury. Zaria has already advanced and will face the winner between Fallon Henley and Skylar Rae.

New number one contender for WWE Speed Championship crowned

The next WWE Speed Championship match is now set.

Jasper Troy defeated Axiom in the finals of the number one contendership tournament that took place Tuesday on NXT. The two fought for the duration of the time limit before Troy was able to grab Axiom and pin him with the black hole slam with six seconds left on the clock. Troy now has earned a Speed title match against El Grande Americano on the November 11 edition of NXT.

Rayo and Bravo, Americano’s associates, have been seen in the crowd in recent weeks scouting the competition. Although Grande Americano has been champion dating back to May, he has not been seen with the championship on main roster television. He did cut a promo about the tournament during this past weekend’s NXT Halloween Havoc event.

The Women’s Speed Championship was declared vacant on Tuesday after Sol Ruca decided to focus on her recovery, handing the title over to Ava. A tournament will be held starting on next week’s show to crown a new champion.

Winners announced for season one of WWE LFG

The first winners of LFG have been crowned.

On Sunday’s episode that aired on A&E, Tyra Mae Steele and Jasper Troy were announced as the winners of the first season of the reality competition show. As a result, they have “signed NXT contracts,” although all of the competitors have been signed by WWE and already train at their Performance Center.

Steele, who was on The Undertaker’s team, was chosen over Zena Sterling, who was on Bubba Ray Dudley’s team. Hill, who was on Booker T’s team, was chosen over Team Undertaker’s Shiloh Hill. Undertaker was crowned the first-ever WWE LFG Champion as two of his rookies made it to the final round.

Both winners talked to Sports Illustrated following their win.

“I’m so excited. It’s been a long time coming. I swear I’ve just been waiting for my moment to shine,” Steele said. “I just feel elated. I just feel so, so freaking blessed.”

“This is the first thing I ever won,” Troy said. “I’ve never won a championship or a playoff, you know. So to me, this is like a Super Bowl moment. But I see how someone like DeVonta Smith or A.J. Brown will be like, ‘winning the Super Bowl was cool, but now it’s like what’s next?'”

Steele (real name Tamyra Mensah-Stock), 32, was the first Black woman to win gold in women’s freestyle wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She signed with WWE in 2023 and has competed on Level Up.

Troy (Antione Frazier), 26, has a background in football and made his debut in 2023, also previously competing on Level Up.

LFG has already been announced for a second season with Michelle McCool replacing Mickie James as one of the coaches.
