Josh Nason’s Punch-Out final episode: Jack Encarnacao helps close the show

After more than a decade and 300+ episodes, Josh Nason’s Punch-Out has come to an end.

The first ever guest on this show — Jack Encarnacao of The Lapsed Fan — helps close the show as Josh promised way back in May 2015 when JNPO launched. (He had no idea which you’ll hear in the episode.)

They talk about the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano announcement, the current state of media, podcasts and expectations, Dave Meltzer, and why the show is ending.

Afterward, Josh runs through all the guests in the show’s history with a few words on each of them, what’s next, and why it was time to go.

Thank you for listening to this or any of the other JNPO episodes over the last 11 years.

JNPO: Jack Encarnacao on the life & Sherdog times of Jordan Breen

On a Friday Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, Josh is joined by Jack Encarnacao of The Lapsed Fan as he remembers his longtime co-worker and friend Jordan Breen who passed away earlier this week.

Josh talked to Jack for nearly an hour about his times with Jordan, the many influences he had on the sport, how he was Internet before the Internet was the Internet, and lots more.

From road stories to his Lapsed Fan appearance to everything in between, those who remember Jordan will enjoy this show.

We even get into a few Lapsed Fan and Dark Side of the Ring topics as well.

JNPO: The Lapsed Fan heads to Philadelphia for bozos & brunch

On a brand-new Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, Jack Encarnacao and JP Sarro of The Lapsed Fan return to promote their upcoming live event during WrestleMania weekend in Philadelphia.

During their hour-plus appearance, the guys talk about what fans can expect at their Bozos, Biceps and Bullshit brunch taking place on Sunday, April 7th at Punchline Philly.

We talk about what they learned from their first-ever live event last year, the comedians that are putting on this show, and a retelling of how this whole thing came to be.

We also talked about their 10th anniversary of doing TLF and their diehard fanbase that has kept them going — one that helped them gain additional work for the Dark Side of the Ring Unheard podcast.

Of course, we had to talk about The Iron Claw star Holt McCallany shouting out “Time-Lapsed Fan” during his appearance on this very podcast while talking about his preparation to play Fritz Von Erich.

We also discuss JP’s Vince McMahon impersonation in the Janel Grant lawsuit era, Virgil, why Jack considers JP to be a great resource for what casual fans watch, and more.

JNPO: The Lapsed Fan goes Hollywood

Scroll down to listen to the podcast.

Let’s face it: The Lapsed Fan going Hollywood was inevitable, given their propensity for limos, plastic surgery, and jet setting among the elite.

On this week’s Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, I go deep with Jack Encarnacao and JP Sarro into their maiden voyage out west for a special post-WrestleMania live event in Los Angeles — their first-ever full-on live show.

Why now? What’s in it for them? Will there be a salad bar? All that and more is discussed on this episode in a way that will excite you and perhaps titillate you if the TLP guys have their way.

We talk about the show, whether it’s a template for future events, the lamenting that will take place after WrestleMania and why, and plenty more.

Plus, there’s imitations. I can’t tell you who, but you will be familiar, brother.

We also talk about TNA Law, why JP made it come to life, and how it connects with the current run of TLP podcasts.

JNPO: The combat sports coronavirus era has arrived

This is a free show. Just click below to listen.

On Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, old friend and co-founder of The Lapsed FanJack Encarnacao returns to have a chat about WWE’s decision about holding WrestleMania in an empty gym, the UFC looking at an Indian reservation to hold an event before a U.S. government mandate shut it down, how AEW is managing to somehow avoid criticism despite their plan to keep running weekly shows, and the lack of communication around event cancellations and postponements.

We kicked off the discussion with an interesting Jack take on how our social distancing could be the future of pro sports and life in general.

We hit upon how MMA media and fans quickly changed their tune when the prospect of Tyron Woodley vs. Colby Covington was dangled out there, how that proves the UFC will be fine on the other end of this thing, and the sad reality that fighters and wrestlers needed to risk their health to earn some money.

We then wrapped up with a quick chat on Rob Gronkowski’s WWE prospects and what episode of The Lapsed Fan newbies should check out.

JNPO: The History of UFC in Boston, part 1

The UFC returns to the City of Champions this Saturday for UFC 220, the fifth time they’ve visited Boston, MA, in eight years.

A lot has happened with those shows from James Toney making his way into the Octagon to Conor McGregor main eventing his first UFC show to the debut show on Fox Sports One. Due to Dana White’s native son status, Boston has become a place where interesting things happen when the UFC circus comes to town.

In the first part of a two part series on Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, yours truly and Jack Encarnacao (Boston Herald, Sherdog, The Lapsed Fan) take you on a deep dive through the following:

– The path to MMA legalization in Massachussetts and the UFC’s announcement they were coming to Boston

– A look back at UFC 118 which featured James Toney crossing over into MMA to battle Randy Couture, Frankie Edgar vs. BJ Penn, a mild panic attack I had at the open workouts, meeting Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez, and more.

– A look back at UFC Fight Night: Sonnen vs. Shogun which which highlighted the launch of Fox Sports One, a show that featured Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway, and how McGregor was sowing seeds for future stardom in ways you wouldn’t expect.

JNPO: Brock, Bones, Bobby and boxing

Leading into the 76th episode of Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, I was planning on talking to Jack Encarnacao (Sherdog, The Lapsed Fan, Boston Herald) primarily about Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight and a little bit of Brock Lesnar.

Then, Tuesday night happened and all hell broke loose. Lucky for you, that means an even bigger show.

– For the first 20 minutes, Jack and I talked about the recently wrapped SummerSlam four-day weekend and some of the key talking points coming out of it including the SmackDown debut of Bobby Roode.

– I asked Jack whether we can only truly appreciate the greatness of Lesnar after he’s gone and the key to his staying power and success in 2017.

– We then took another 20 minutes to break into the latest Jon Jones UFC-USADA debacle which threatens to effectively disrail Jones’ career and legacy.

– We then finished up with discussion on the big fight of the year: McGregor vs. Mayweather. This isn’t a technical deep dive by any means, but we both have different views on the fight and we unpacked the best case/worst case scenarios for both the UFC and McGregor.
