NJPW’s Tanga Loa to miss rest of 2022 following MCL surgery

Guerrillas of Destiny member Tanga Loa is going to be out for the rest of the year.

The 39-year-old hasn’t wrestled since NJPW Capital Collision on May 14. NJPW announced on June 1 that Loa had been pulled from the Best of the Super Jr. Finals card after suffering a knee injury.

Tama Tonga provided an update on his brother during an episode of Tama’s Island released on Sunday.

“He’s been injured, tore his MCL and just had surgery a couple of months ago. So, he’ll be out for the rest of the year but he’s making progress. He isn’t able to run yet but he’s able to walk and do some stuff but just the running part is the hardest part right now. He’s doing well, he’s moving forward. Looking forward to having him come back,” Tonga said.

The news means Loa is likely to miss NJPW’s World Tag League. The tournament kicks off on November 21. The Guerillas of Destiny won the 2020 World Tag League after defeating Juice Robinson & David Finlay in the finals.

Bullet Club vs. Violent By Design, Chris Sabin vs. Kenny King set for Impact

A trios match between the Bullet Club and Violent by Design will be featured on next Thursday’s go-home edition of Impact Wrestling ahead of No Surrender.

Jay White and the Guerrillas of Destiny will team against Eric Young, Deaner and Doering. The match will be a preview of White and Young’s match at the Saturday, February 19th Impact Plus special.

In another preview for that event, Chris Sabin of Team Impact will take on Kenny King of Honor No More. The five-on-five match at No Surrender will determine if the Ring of Honor faction gets to stay in Impact.

Knockouts Champion Mickie James will team with Chelsea Green against no. 1 contender Tasha Steelz and Savannah Evans. Steelz and Evans jumped both James and Green during their singles match Thursday. James will defend against Steelz at No Surrender.

New Knockouts division signee Gisele Shaw will make her promotional debut against Lady Frost.

Here’s the current lineup;

Guerrillas of Destiny debut, Jordynne Grace vs. Matt Cardona set for Impact

After making their on-screen debut Thursday, New Japan tag team stars and Bullet Club members Guerrillas of Destiny will make their in-ring debut for Impact Wrestling next Thursday.

Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa will team with the returning Jay White and Chris Bey to face Jake Something, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Madman Fulton and former X-Division Champion Ace Austin.

Tonga and Loa attacked Something Thursday after his win over Bey. That brought out Bailey for the save followed by White making his return to aid his Bullet Club teammates. Tonga and Loa then sent notice to Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers that they are coming for them.

Next Thursday’s show will also see Digital Media Champion Jordynne Grace defend against Matt Cardona. Grace accepted Cardona’s challenge on Thursday, saying Cardona being “the Internet Champion” was a thing of the past.

Ring of Honor Champion Jonathan Gresham will rematch Steve Maclin in a non-title affair after Gresham defended the title against him last week under Pure rules. Maclin complained about the rules Thursday and Gresham called him out.

Here’s the current lineup:

  • Guerrillas of Destiny, Jay White and Chris Bey vs. Jake Something, Mike Bailey, Ace Austin and Madman Fulton
  • Digital Media Champion Jordynne Grace vs. Matt Cardona title match
  • ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham vs. Steve Maclin non-title match
