Wrestling Observer Live Saturday with Jim Valley. Minutes before the show started, Sports Byline Producer Daniel mentioned he went to SmackDown Friday night in Sacramento.
Not only did we have his thoughts, but we also kept talking during the commercial breaks. So it’s a longer show with bonus content:
Was the crowd bummed that some main event stars weren’t there?
Who did they like?
Who was the most over?
Who does Daniel think saved the show for the live crowd?
The Cody and Roman confrontation was CINEMA! It was pretty. But was it effective, or too over the top? If Cody and Roman are CINEMA, then Chelsea Green is Lucille Ball, a brilliant comedian.
Plus, The Outrunners are moving up. Can they be more than a one-hit wonder? All that and more, all done on the fly. Check it out.
WWE has added another stipulation to Bayley & Naomi vs. Nia Jax & Tiffany Stratton on tonight’s SmackDown.
The stakes of the match are — if the babyface team wins — whoever scores the pinfall or submission will challenge Jax for the WWE Women’s Championship at Bad Blood. If the heels win, the member of the babyface team that loses the fall will have to leave SmackDown forever.
In addition to those stipulations, WWE has now announced that Bayley & Naomi vs. Jax & Stratton will be a tornado tag match. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis explained that, with this stipulation, the match is more fair because neither Bayley nor Naomi can refuse to tag out or refuse to tag in.
đš đš đš #SmackDown General Manager @RealNickAldis just made tonight's Women's Tag Team Match a little more interesting! đ
With Stratton’s help, Jax won the WWE Women’s Championship from Bayley at SummerSlam. Stratton currently holds the women’s Money in the Bank briefcase.
Bad Blood is taking place from Atlanta on Saturday, October 5.
Here’s the updated SmackDown lineup for tonight:
WWE SmackDown (Friday, September 20) —
United States Champion LA Knight defends against Andrade
Tornado tag match: Bayley & Naomi vs. Nia Jax & Tiffany Stratton (If Bayley & Naomi win, whoever scores the fall will challenge Jax for the WWE Women’s Championship at Bad Blood. If Bayley & Naomi lose, whoever loses the fall must leave SmackDown forever)
A grudge match between Bayley and Tiffany Stratton will go down on SmackDown this Friday night.
WWE announced the matchup this afternoon in a video posted by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. Last week, Bayley returned to WWE programming for the first time since losing the WWE Women’s Championship to Nia Jax at SummerSlam. Stratton — who holds the women’s Money in the Bank briefcase — distracted Bayley during that match.
Bayley then made her return on last Friday’s SmackDown from Berlin, helping Michin even the odds after Stratton got involved in a Jax vs. Michin street fight for the WWE Women’s Championship. Jax still retained her title despite Bayley chasing Stratton away.
Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is the venue for SmackDown this Friday. It’s the last episode of the show that will air on Fox before SmackDown moves to USA Network starting on September 13.
The updated card is listed below:
WWE SmackDown (Friday, September 6) —
Cody Rhodes responds to Solo Sikoa’s Undisputed WWE Championship challenge
Eight-man tag match: Angelo Dawkins, Montez Ford, Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa vs. The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa & Jacob Fatu)
Though it took place at an untelevised show, fans can now watch Bayley and Meiko Satomura’s WWE Women’s Championship match.
The legendary Satomura faced off against Bayley for the first time ever at WWE’s house show in Tokyo on July 27. A Rose Plant earned Bayley the victory as she remained WWE Women’s Champion. After the match, the two competitors showed respect to each other and Bayley left the ring so Satomura could spend a moment with the crowd.
The full match has been uploaded by WWE to their WWE Vault YouTube channel:
Three WWE house shows were held in Japan from July 25-27. At the other two events, Bayley, Satomura, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill defeated IYO SKY, Kairi Sane, Dakota Kai & Tiffany Stratton in eight-woman tag matches. This was the first time WWE has been to Japan since 2019.
Bayley is set to defend her WWE Women’s Championship against Nia Jax at SummerSlam this Saturday. Stratton, who holds the Money in the Bank briefcase, has also been positioned as a threat to Bayley’s title reign. There was a spot during the Bayley vs. Satomura match where Stratton wanted to cash in but was laid out by Satomura.
Satomura has announced that she will retire from in-ring competition in April 2025. That month marks the 30th anniversary of her pro wrestling debut. Satomura has been signed to WWE since joining NXT UK as a wrestler and coach in 2021. She also runs the Sendai Girls promotion in Japan.
Bayley and pro wrestling legend Meiko Satomura are set to face off against each other for the first time ever.
At WWE’s house show in Tokyo this Saturday, Bayley will put her WWE Women’s Championship on the line against Satomura. The match was announced after they teamed up together in matches on the first two nights of WWE’s Japan tour. Satomura cut a promo challenging Bayley to the title match.
“Tomorrow night will be an absolute honor,” Bayley wrote. “Feels like Iâm having a Wrestlemania match 1 week before Summerslam.”
A WWE Women’s Championship match with Bayley defending against Nia Jax is scheduled for SummerSlam on Saturday, August 3.
WWE was in Osaka on Thursday and Tokyo on Friday for the first two events of the house show tour. It’s the fist time WWE has held shows in Japan since 2019. The tour concludes with Saturday’s live event at Sumo Hall.
Bayley, Satomura, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill defeated IYO SKY, Kairi Sane, Dakota Kai & Tiffany Stratton at the Thursday and Friday events.
Tokyo Sports reported this week that Satomura has made the decision to retire from in-ring competition and will likely have her final match in spring 2025. Next April marks the 30th anniversary of Satomura’s pro wrestling debut. She runs the Sendai Girls promotion in Japan and is also under contract with WWE.
Satomura is a former NXT UK Women’s Champion. She signed with WWE in 2021 as a wrestler and coach for NXT UK.
Bayley is thrilled with the current state of WWE’s women’s division.
After competing at house shows in Mexico over the weekend, Bayley posted a tweet on Monday reflecting on the experience and thanking the fans who came to the events. She also took some time to express how proud she is of her colleagues in the women’s division.
“Thank you Mexico! Iâll remember the shows we had this past weekend forever! Iâm sore, got my azz beat, exhausted and still a champion! But I gotta say, Iâm so damn proud of our womenâs division,” Bayley wrote. “Iâve never seen everyone so on point at the same time. Pushing eachother and thriving!”
Bayley retained her WWE Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair in Mexico City on Saturday before then taking part in a six-woman tag match in Monterrey on Sunday. It was Bayley, Belair & Jade Cargill defeating Liv Morgan, Shayna Baszler & Tiffany Stratton.
The house shows featured wrestlers from both the SmackDown and Raw rosters. Bayley is the current Women’s Champion on SmackDown while Morgan is the champion on Raw.
New WWE signee Stephanie Vaquer also debuted for the company in Mexico over the weekend, defeating Isla Dawn both nights. Vaquer will be starting her WWE career in NXT.
Bayley has a WWE Women’s Championship defense against Nia Jax set for SummerSlam on Saturday, August 3. Stratton, who holds the Money in the Bank briefcase, is being built up as a threat to Bayley’s title reign as well.
Bayley believes now is the right time for WWE to hold another all-women’s event.
In October 2018, WWE Evolution — the company’s first all-women’s pay-per-view — took place from Long Island, New York. WWE has never followed up with Evolution 2, but Bayley believes it’s something the company should do now that it has entered into a new creative era.
Cody Rhodes asked Bayley about her interest in another Evolution event while interviewing her on the first episode of “What Do You Wanna Talk About?,” a new WWE YouTube series that’s sponsored by Wheatley American Vodka.
âYes. Why not? Like we were just saying, there’s so many women,” Bayley responded. “So the thing about the first one was we had so many girls from NXT for one, which they got to showcase on a bigger stage. But they had so many women from the past. It’s kind of like the first few [women’s Royal] Rumbles, a lot of women from the past because we didn’t have enough women to fill up these matches. But like, now we do. And I think it would be so cool to give everybody on Raw and everybody on SmackDown a part of that show, Evolution 2.
“You can bring girls in from NXT. You can bring girls in — we just saw Jordynne Grace on NXT. TNA girls, whatever that connection is there, we can bring different girls in. You can bring someone in from the past, like if they’re up for it, to do a little something. But we have such a stacked roster right now where it’s like, we can hold down a show on our own, another PLE on our own. And it’s been so many years where it’s not like it’s something we have to do every year where we’re kind of like, âAll right. We’ve seen it enough times,’ but I think it’s time because it is a different era compared to back then.â
Bayley was part of the card for the first Evolution PPV, teaming with Sasha Banks & Natalya to defeat The Riott Squad in a six-woman tag match. She told Rhodes that it’s one of her favorite matches that she’s ever had.
Rhodes said he thinks another Evolution will happen and it feels like it should happen soon.
Bayley — the current WWE Women’s Champion — is set to defend her title against Nia Jax at SummerSlam on Saturday, August 3.
Though they’re in different promotions now, Bayley and Mercedes Mone still have an unbreakable bond.
Bayley has been there for the former Sasha Banks in her biggest moments since leaving WWE. Bayley attended Mone’s NJPW debut in 2023 and was in the audience when Mone debuted for AEW this March. In an interview with Denise Salcedo, Bayley said that — while she misses having Mone in WWE — it’s kind of nice that they’re able to help grow women’s wrestling in two separate companies.
“I’m so excited to see her take this to the next level. As much as I miss having her here, wrestling, to me, still feels weird without her. But it’s like I have her in a different way where I can tell her what’s going on here and what I need help with, and what I’m trying to do to make it better over here. And the same goes for her. It’s kind of nice that we’re able to help and grow in two different companies and separately. So I think, in a way, it’s kind of better,” Bayley said.
“I’m so proud of her just for taking that leap and taking a chance on herself. And she has so much to offer the world. And there is just so much more that she’s going to be able to do. I’m really excited to watch. And now I just get to be a fan. Can’t be her tag partner anymore, but now I get to be a fan.”
Mone had her first AEW match last month, defeating Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship. A title vs. title match with Mone facing NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer will take place at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 30.
Bayley also currently holds gold. She’s defending the WWE Women’s Championship against Piper Niven at Clash at the Castle this Saturday.
Bayley will defend the WWE Women’s Championship at Clash at the Castle.
WWE revealed late Friday that Piper Niven will challenge Bayley for the WWE Women’s title at Clash at the Castle set for Saturday, June 15 in Glasgow, Scotland.
The WWE Womenâs Championship will be on the line when @itsBayleyWWE defends her title against Scotlandâs own, @PiperNivenWWE.
In an angle on Friday’s SmackDown, Niven & Chelsea Green attacked Bayley as Bayley made her way to the ring for Nia Jax’s Queen of the Ring coronation. Green then announced Niven’s intention to take the title from Bayley.
Later on SmackDown, Niven & Green defeated Bayley & Naomi in tag team action with Green pinning Naomi, with the storyline being that Bayley was not at one hundred percent after the attack earlier in the show.
The Women’s Championship match joins the Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre World Heavyweight title bout as the first two matches set for Clash at the Castle. Both Niven and McIntyre are natives of Scotland.
The lineup for Clash at the Castle so far:
World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest defends against Drew McIntyre
WWE Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Piper Niven
An eight-woman tag match is set to take place on the final SmackDown before Backlash.
Bayley, Naomi, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill will team up against Tiffany Stratton & three members of Damage CTRL on tonight’s SmackDown in Lyon, France. The announcement of the match was made during this afternoon’s Backlash kickoff fan event.
At Backlash, Bayley is defending her WWE Women’s Championship against Naomi and Stratton in a triple threat match. That was made official after Stratton interrupted a title bout between Bayley and Naomi on SmackDown two weeks ago.
Belair & Cargill are challenging Damage CTRL’s Asuka & Kairi Sane for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles at Backlash. The premium live event streams live on Peacock starting at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday (May 4).
WWE has also announced that Paul Heyman will be Kevin Owens & Randy Orton’s guest for their RKO Show segment on SmackDown tonight. Owens & Orton vs. Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga is happening at Backlash.
Here’s the updated lineup for SmackDown:
Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles go face-to-face
After winning the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes will make his first SmackDown appearance as the company’s top champion tonight.
Rhodes won the title from Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40 night two. Reigns’ loss put an end to his dominant 1,316-day run as champion.
Tonight, WWE will begin determining Rhodes’ first challenger.
Two triple threat matches will take place on tonight’s SmackDown: Bobby Lashley vs. Santos Escobar vs. LA Knight and AJ Styles vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Kevin Owens. The winners advance to face off in a number one contender’s match next Friday to determine who’s first in line for a shot at Rhodes.
An appearance by new WWE Women’s Champion Bayley has also been announced for SmackDown. Bayley defeated her former Damage CTRL stablemate IYO SKY for the title at WrestleMania.
Our live coverage starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
– A recap of WrestleMania XL Night Two’s main event kicked off the show, as Cody Rhodes finished the story and became the Undisputed WWE Champion by defeating Roman Reigns.
Cody Rhodes opens the show
Corey Graves and Wade Barrett welcomed us from inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan for SmackDown.
The new Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made his entrance to a great ovation from the Detroit crowd.
Rhodes talked about how the Rock’s appearance on Raw made him think of a particular Detroit native and a particular line they’re known for, “who the hell told you it was open mic night, bitch?” (in reference to Rhodes’ wife, Brandi Rhodes)
He addressed how Rock’s confrontation on Monday felt like a “wartime overture” and that he’d be waiting for the Rock once he returned to Hollywood. He switched gears to the upcoming Backlash Premium Live Event in France, as he sized up the competition he could potentially face, pending the results of the two Triple Threat matches this evening.
Rhodes said that he was no longer the hunter, but the hunted, and that if the six men vying for the a shot at him, “they’d best not miss,” as he reintroduced himself as “once undesirable, undeniable, and now the Undisputed WWE Champion.” Rhodes posed with his championship as the crowd cheered him on.
**********
– Bayley and Rey Mysterio were shown walking backstage.
– Backstage, the Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso were shown standing in front of Cody Rhodes’ locker room, which was formerly the Bloodline’s locker room. Kevin Owens walked into the room as Sikoa said he’d take care of it. Paul Heyman told Sikoa that Rhodes was the champion and that winning and losing mattered, carrying consequences with it. He said that by orders of the Tribal Chief, the Undisputed WWE Championship needed to return to the Bloodline.
– A promo for Raw from Montreal this coming Monday hyped Sami Zayn versus Chad Gable for the Intercontinental Title and Sheamus’ return.
Number One Contender’s Triple Threat Match: LA Knight defeated Santos Escobar and Bobby Lashley
Once the bell rang, Escobar ran at Knight before he got double-teamed by Knight and Lashley. Knight tried to roll up Lashley, but to no avail.
Lashley was pulled out of the ring by Knight as they brawled for a bit before Escobar dove onto the two of them. SmackDown went to commercial at this point of the match.
We returned from break with Lashley and Escobar fighting in the ring. Both men were on the top turnbuckle as Escobar desperately tried to escape. Knight jumped up the top rope and tried to go for a superplex, but Lashley powerbombed both Knight and Escobar for the near-fall.
Knight fought out of a Phantom Driver attempt by Escobar, as he hit his Megastar Elbow on him. Escobar was in the crosshairs of Knight before Legado Del Fantasma attacked Knight and flattened him with the triple powerbomb. They laid waste to Lashley before the Street Profits ran in to fend off Angel and Berto.
Lashley took Escobar down with a Flatliner and looked to have him finished off with a Spear. Escobar dodged it, which caused Lashley to crash into the ringpost. Knight snuck up behind Escobar and got the win with the B.F.T.
A fun triple threat opener to kick off SmackDown, and LA Knight as the winner is the right call. Whether or not he goes on to face Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship remains to be seen, but it could be an interesting match if it somehow happened.
**********
– Backstage, the LWO were interviewed. Rey Mysterio said that whether it was Santos Escobar or Ridge Holland, karma was going to bite them. Kayla Braxton told Mysterio that Escobar denied attacking Dragon Lee last week, but Mysterio switched topics by saying that he was going to win the No. 1 Contenders’ Triple Threat Match later on and that although he was a WWE Hall of Famer, he might have one more championship run in him.
– Solo Sikoa, Jimmy Uso, and Paul Heyman made their way to the ring, as we’d hear from them up next on SmackDown.
The Bloodline address the fallout of WrestleMania
Paul Heyman started off by saying that the Bloodline offered no excuses for what happened at WrestleMania. He said by orders of Roman Reigns, the Bloodline needed to accept accountability. Heyman said that Cody Rhodes ‘flipped the script’ on Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 before he pointed out that Seth Rollins stayed true to the word of being Rhodes “Shield”.
Heyman talked about how Reigns gave into temptation and got distracted by the lust of revenge on Rollins for the Shield’s destruction, and that Rhodes took advantage of it to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
Before Heyman could continue, Solo Sikoa grabbed the mic and said that winning and losing mattered, and that “consequences needed change”. Sikoa stared down Jimmy Uso and gave him an embrace. “You’re my brother, I love you,” said Sikoa.
Suddenly, a man in a black hoodie appeared and attacked Jimmy from behind, revealed to be Tama Tonga. As Tonga continued the attack, he held him up for Sikoa to hit multiple Samoan Spikes on Jimmy. In the corner, Heyman begged for his life, but Sikoa just grabbed him so he could join in the Bloodline salute. Heyman tried to call for Roman Reigns on his phone, but Sikoa smashed it before he went to ringside and grabbed a steel chair.
Sikoa placed the chair around Jimmy’s neck as he once again said, “I love you, brother”. Heyman shouted “this is not what the Tribal Chief wants!” as Sikoa ran right into the prone Jimmy Uso on the corner.
Sikoa and Tonga left the ring, while Heyman looked nervous about what went down in the ring.
Very effective introduction for Tama Tonga as a new Bloodline member, showing up to punish Jimmy Uso for his failures. Tonga being brought by Sikoa and seemingly not under orders of Roman Reigns creates a very interesting divide within the Bloodline, and there’s a very good chance that a certain Final Boss may have carried out this edict. All in all, a good way to keep the Bloodline story going with Reigns and The Rock looking like they’ll be absent for the foreseeable future.

Bron Breakker defeated Cameron Grimes
Breakker got started right away with two suplexes until Grimes fought out of it. Breakker recovered and got a full head of speed to hit a hard-hitting clothesline on Grimes.
Grimes escaped and tried to leap at Breakker, who planted him with a slam. Breakker pulled down the straps and ran through Grimes with a vicious Spear for the easy victory.
Short, but sweet squash to keep Breakker in focus after his recent farewell to NXT. Nothing much more to say.
– The Progressive Insurance Match Flo was a recap of some of WrestleMania XL’s moments, including Bayley winning the WWE Women’s Championship, which segued into Bayley herself walking backstage, as we’d hear from her up next.
– AJ Styles spoke backstage about the upcoming Triple Threat Match that’s main eventing SmackDown. He said that Rey Mysterio and Kevin Owens were in the way of something bigger, and that tonight would be a taste of what LA Knight would feel next week.
Bayley speaks about her WWE Women’s Championship victory
The new WWE Women’s Champion Bayley entered to a massive reaction from the Detroit crowd. She took time to high five some of the fans on her way to the ring.
The crowd chanted “you deserve it!” at Bayley as she entered the ring. She said that it felt good to hear the crowd chanting that.
Bayley said that she felt damn proud to be called the new WWE Women’s Champion. She said that her win at WrestleMania felt so special because it was different. She said that it felt different because she got to be the champion of a new, exciting era, which represented the best women’s locker room in memory. Bayley gave thanks for the fans who have been there for her for 11 years, thanking them for never giving up on her.
Before she could continue, Bayley was interrupted by Tiffany Stratton, who started by saying how rude it was that she never got her opportunity at WrestleMania. She said that she accepted Bayley’s supposed open challenge, because it was Tiffy Time.
Bayley said that there wasn’t an open challenge and that she had someone in mind for her next challenger, namely Naomi. Stratton protested, which prompted Naomi herself to enter the scene.
Stratton bragged about having already beaten Naomi, which prompted an immediate response. Naomi said that she couldn’t accept Bayley’s challenge just yet, because she wanted to take on Tiffany Stratton right here and right now.
– Kayla Braxton stood in front of the doctor’s office, as she discussed about what happened with Jimmy Uso and Tama Tonga earlier. Paul Heyman stepped out of the room with a concerned look on his face and was confronted by Tonga, who said “by orders of the Tribal Chief.” Sikoa appeared next to Tonga as the two left the scene. Heyman wondered what it all meant.
Naomi defeated Tiffany Stratton
Back in the ring, the match started during the commercial break. Naomi hit a nice leg drop on Stratton for a two-count. She continued the attack on Stratton’s arm afterwards. Bayley was at ringside, encouraging Naomi.
Stratton recovered and began to attack Naomi in the corner with repeated shoulder thrusts. Stratton tripped up Naomi and then hit a running hip strike to her prone opponent along the middle rope.
Naomi fought back with a dropkick as she hit Stratton with a kick from the apron. Stratton shoved Naomi into the ring post to send her crashing outside, which sent us to a mid-match commercial.
SmackDown resumed with Naomi hitting a flying crossbody, then a springboard kick on Stratton. She followed this up with a running dropkick in the corner on Stratton. With her foe in position, Naomi got the splash, which Stratton barely kicked out of.
Stratton with the O’Connor Roll, followed by the double stomp. Naomi kicked out at two. Stratton countered Naomi in the corner to flatten her with a nice Alabama Slam. Naomi avoided the Prettiest Moonsault Ever and got the jackknife pin for the surprise victory. The win earned Naomi a future shot at Bayley’s WWE Women’s Championship.
A good match between Naomi and Stratton, and while some might be disheartened by Stratton losing this match, it’s probably too soon for her to be competing for the title in a match she’d probably lose. A loss against Naomi certainly won’t hurt her future stock. And as far as a first challenger goes for Bayley, Naomi isn’t a bad option.

– An A-Town Down Under vignette was shown before we went to the office of SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, who had the Street Profits & New Catch Republic with him. Aldis said that they’d find a challenger for Austin Theory & Grayson Waller next week.
– United States Champion Logan Paul was at his house, as he cut a promo about his successful WrestleMania weekend defending his title. He boasted about how he had a hand at WrestleMania’s success.
– Earlier Today footage showed Chelsea Green and Piper Niven talking to Nick Aldis, who told them that he had some opponents in mind for them.
Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair defeated Chelsea Green and Piper Niven
Cargill and Belair were revealed as Green and Niven’s mystery opponents that Nick Aldis lined up for them.
Belair started off with a standing spinebuster on Green, who quickly tagged Niven in. As Belair tried to tag Cargill, Niven grabbed her hair and then hit a sitdown powerbomb. Belair avoided the diving splash, which gave her time to tag Cargill in.
During the match, part of the screen glitched briefly to display a cryptic message of “you forgot about us”.
WIth Green as the legal woman, Cargill made short work of her, as she put this match to a quick end with Jaded.
It’s clear that Cargill and Belair are being set up as the team that will defeat the Kabuki Warriors, and it’s not a bad place for them, to be honest. This helps Cargill get her reps in and a nice set up for a potential feud between the two when the time comes for it. Cargill’s presence is as impressive as ever, with her grand, superhero-like entrance and it’s always a treat to see every week.
**********
– Kevin Owens was with Byron Saxton backstage. Owens wondered about the cool camera shots they’ve been doing recently, as he grabbed Saxton’s mic and began to talk about his upcoming match with Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles. The camera followed Owens as he made his entrance with a custom Detroit Tigers championship belt.
– Next Week on Smackdown: WWE Women’s Championship: Bayley versus Naomi; Tag Team Fatal Four-Way No. 1 Contenders’ Match: Street Profits versus Authors of Pain versus New Catch Republic versus Legado Del Fantasma; LA Knight versus AJ Styles (winner faces Cody Rhodes at WWE Backlash)
Number One Contender’s Triple Threat Match: AJ Styles defeated Rey Mysterio and Kevin Owens
The match started with Mysterio and Styles mixing it up, as Owens clotheslined Styles to the outside. Owens threw Styles against the barricade and rammed into him for the Cannonball. Mysterio flattened Owens with a splash, which sent us to the last commercial break for the evening.
We returned to live action with Styles, Owens, and Mysterio all in the ring. Mysterio countered an attempted Owens powerslam into a DDT, as he then reversed Styles’ attempt at a piledriver into a move of his own for the near-fall.
Mysterio had Styles set up for the 619, but Styles grabbed Mysterio’s legs and lifted him up for the ushigoroshi. Styles then began to fight Owens in the corner until Mysterio sent him outside the ring. Mysterio met Owens in the corner and got hit with a nasty superplex from the top rope. Mysterio managed to kick out at two.
Owens avoided a standing moonsault from Styles and hit a superkick. Pop-up Powerbomb countered into a Pele Kick. Mysterio kicked Styles to stop a Styles Clash attempt. Owens hit a powerful double-stack German suplex on both Styles and Mysterio.
Owens flipped Mysterio into Styles, who got sent into the ropes for another 619 attempt. Mysterio connected, but couldn’t capitalize because Owens got him with the Stunner on the apron.
Swanton by Owens blocked by Styles, as Mysterio fought Styles on the top rope. Styles got the upper hand and hit an Avalanche Styles Clash on Mysterio right on the prone Kevin Owens to get the victory. Styles will now face LA Knight next week for a shot at Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship at Backlash.
After the match, Knight appeared in the ring to talk trash with Styles to end the show.
**********
A very solid main event between three excellent competitors, and I enjoyed the chemistry that Styles, Mysterio, and Owens had. Obviously, Styles versus Knight for a shot at Cody Rhodes’ title was the call, and it seems like they’re going to have Styles be Rhodes’ first title challenger. I’m interested in how they get there next week.
Speaking of Cody Rhodes, I would’ve liked to see at least another segment with Rhodes, because it seemed odd that he just appeared in the opening segment and not anywhere else. I did like the implication that as the new Undisputed WWE Champion, he now gets the locker room formerly belonging to the Bloodline.
Tama Tonga’s introduction and the implications for the Bloodline was the night’s strongest segment. The intrigue of where Tonga’s loyalties truly lie and whether or not Solo Sikoa has taken over the Bloodline or acting on the orders of a new Tribal Chief is a great story thread to develop over the next little while with The Rock off shooting his new movies and Roman Reigns on a well-deserved break.
All in all, I enjoyed this SmackDown and it was a good post-WrestleMania show that sets up a very interesting new chapter for the Bloodline, while setting the stage for challengers to the new champions of the blue brand.
Cody Rhodes and Bayley will both appear on this Fridayâs SmackDown.
It was announced on Monday that the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and WWE Womenâs Champion respectively will appear on Fridayâs show in Detroit, Michigan. Both were successful at WrestleMania 40, where Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns and Bayley defeated IYO SKY.
On Monday, Cody made his first WWE TV appearance since defeating Reigns. The Rock came out and ultimately told Cody that while he finished his story with Reigns at WrestleMania, their story wasnât over. He then gave Cody something that the crowd didnât see and told him to never break The Final Bossâ heart again.
Bayley defeated SKY in a match that pitted her against a member of her former group Damage CTRL. All of the group lost their matches at WrestleMania, with Kairi Sane, Asuka, and Dakota Kai losing to Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, and Naomi.
Here is the updated card for Fridayâs SmackDown in Detroit:
WWEâs first-ever womenâs Grand Slam Champion added another accolade on Sunday in Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40, defeating IYO SKY in the showâs semi-main event to win the Womenâs Championship.
In a bout where SKY kicked out of a Bayley-to-Belly, and Bayley kicked out of SKYâs trademark moonsault, Bayley scored the win by pinfall after a flying elbow and a Rose Plant.
The title match ends a nearly two-year storyline following Bayley forming the Damage CTRL group with SKY and Dakota Kai at SummerSlam 2022, Asuka & Kairi Sane eventually joining the group, then ultimately Damage CTRL turning on Bayley after her Royal Rumble win this year.
NFL star George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers was ringside for Bayleyâs win, as Bayley is a San Francisco Bay Area native and a Niners fan. Kittleâs appearance was highlighted on the WrestleMania broadcast.
While she had pushed for a live appearance by Paramore for WrestleMania, the band’s touring schedule would not allow for it according to Bayley’s social media. Instead the Hayley Williams-fronted group provided music for the pre-match video package for Bayley on Sunday.
Bayleyâs best friend and former tag team partner Mercedes Mone posted the following message to Bayley on social media on Sunday:
Be so good they canât ignore you because yoU weâre born to do this @itsBayleyWWE
Bayley becomes the fourth wrestler to hold the Womenâs title since it was rebranded from the Raw Womenâs Championship last year.

Interview with Triple H
They aired part two of Megan Morantâs interview with Paul Levesque. She asked about CM Punk. He said they had zero conversations a few weeks before he actually returned. Punk spoke to Nick Khan and Khan asked if Hunter would speak to Punk. Triple H had no issue with it but he just wanted to know how Punk would fit. It still felt like a long shot when Leveque checked with the music department on the availability of âCult of Personality.â
Levesque made it sound like they were still working on finalizing everything when Survivor Series started. They snuck Punk into the building once it was final. Levesque and Punk briefly said hello before Punk went out to the stage. Since that day, Hunter has had private conversations with people who wanted to air out their differences regarding Punk and it was all amicable. Itâs been refreshing working with Punk.
Triple H spoke about how excited he was about the company and the future. He wanted to continue to re-invent the business. It wasnât broken but he wanted it to be so much more.

Byron Saxton interviewed Iyo Sky. He wondered if Bayley would know exactly how to beat her. Sky called that a stupid question and said they kicked her out of Damage CTRL for a reason.

There was a WrestleMania numbers video.
Saxton said he spoke to Cody Rhodes who said he was good to go tonight.
They aired the closing moments of Sami Zaynâs win over Gunther.
Jackie Redmond and Wade Barrett replaced Cole and McAfee on the panel. Kayla Braxton flat-out told us there would be plenty of interference and run-ins by the Bloodline tonight.
(As they did last night, fans outside are consistently chanting for Punk at the desk.)
Peter Rosenberg found Drew McIntyre in the back. He said Chelsea Green stole his Slammy and wanted her arrested. McIntyre wanted people to really remember what the world was like four years ago (during Covid) and everything he did. He looked forward to lifting the title belt in front of Punkâs stupid face. (Punk had already left the desk so he couldnât comment.)
They aired the final few minutes of Rhea Ripleyâs win over Becky Lynch.
Saxton interviewed Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford, Angelo Dawkins and B-Fab. They were all business and they were ready for tonight. Ford said theyâve chosen violence.
Cathy Kelley interviewed the Final Testament. Karrison Kross mocked their promo and said they were ready to take it to the extreme (he wore an ECW t-shirt).
Rosenberg interviewed Gabriel Iglesias. AJ Styles was shown arriving.
They aired the final moments of last nightâs main event. (Iâm a little surprised theyâre showing so much from last night.)
There was a video of fans in Philly rallying behind Cody Rhodes.
CM Punk was shown entering for commentary.
********
WRESTLEMANIA XL NIGHT TWO —
Cole said nobody had seen Cody Rhodes all day because heâs been locked away in his bus. (On the pre-show, Saxton said he spoke to Rhodes and Rhodes was visited by medical staff.)
There was an intro video once again with Meek Mill. It seems a bit warmer and sunnier than yesterday.
Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins were shown getting ready in the back.
The War and Treaty performed God Bless America.
Stephanie McMahon entered (to a remixed theme). She was at WrestleMania 1 when she was 8 years old and felt privileged to be at every Mania since. She said this one was special because it was the first one in the Paul Levesque era. She asked the crowd if they were ready and they cheered.
********
CM Punk is on commentary for the upcoming match. McIntyre entered to his music but was first brought out by the Ulster Scottish Pipe Band. Punk was unimpressed.
Seth Rollins was brought out to the stage by the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association. Punk called him a goof. The very colourful band marched down to the ring with Rollins as the crowd sang along. Rollins did look like a goof but this was a fun visual.
Drew McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins to win the World Heavyweight Championship (10:33)
McIntyre immediately hit a Claymore Kick and got a nearfall 10 seconds into the match. McIntyre chop-blocked him and launched on the outside with an overhead suplex. He grabbed his wifeâs cell phone and took a selfie (she sat in the front row).
McIntyre taunted Punk and set up Rollins for the same DDT that injured Punk but Rollins countered with a Pedigree. Rollins hit a curb stomp in the ring for two.
They traded blows until McIntyre hit a neckbreaker. McIntyre went for Claymore but Rollins caught him and hit a powerbomb and Pedigree. Rollins hit another stomp for a nearfall. Rollins went for a stomp off the top but McIntyre dodged it. They traded counters until McIntyre hit a Future Shock DDT for two. Punk admitted to wincing at that.
McIntyre did the âgo to sleepâ taunt and Punk said he was putting the crowd to sleep. McIntyre went for GTS but Rollins rolled him up for two. McIntyre hit another Claymore Kick for a nearfall.
McIntyre cleared the announce table but Rollins fought him off. Rollins cleared the other table and hit a running stomp, bouncing McIntyreâs head off the table. Rollins kept selling his knee every time he landed. Rollins tried to follow up in the ring but McIntyre once again hit a Claymore for a nearfall.
McIntyre hit one more Claymore Kick for the pinfall win.
This was really good. It was paced pretty much exactly like a Brock Lesnar main event.
McIntyre acted emotional upon winning. (His reaction felt a bit subdued for reasons weâre about to find out.) McIntyre and Rollins gave each other a knowing look. Rollins was crying as he mouthed something encouraging to McIntyre.
McIntyre let his wife (in the front row) hold the belt and he kissed her.
McIntyre taunted Punk on commentary. McIntyre was being a huge dick and did the crotch chop in Punkâs face. Punk swept out McIntyreâs leg and dropped him on the announce table. Punk ripped off his brace and attacked McIntyre with it.
â Damian Priest sprinted out to his music and the crowd exploded. Priest decked McIntyre with the briefcase and announced he was cashing in.
Damian Priest defeated Drew McIntyre to win the World Heavyweight Championship (0:09)
Priest immediately hit a South of Heaven chokeslam for the pinfall win. The crowd popped big and Priest was pumped. Priest celebrated with his Judgment Day teammates on the stage. Punk was very pleased with himself.
(I said earlier that McIntyre took a selfie during the match. Apparently, he actually posted on Twitter/X that he was bored at work.)
********
Snoop Dogg joined commentary for the next match. Bubba Ray Dudley was the special referee.
Six-man Philadelphia Street Fight: Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits (w/B-Fab) defeated The Final Testament (w/Scarlett & Paul Ellering) (8:33)
Karrion Kross and AOP attacked Lashley with kendo sticks which got a Sandman reference on commentary. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins tried to help but they were overwhelmed by kendo sticks too.
Kross tried a cover but B-Fab hit him with a kendo stick. Scarlett hit B-Fab with a trash can. Lashley gave Kross a flatliner while the Street Profits took AOP out of the ring. Ford hit a big-ass flip dive to take out AOP.
Lashley gave Kross a spinebuster on a chair. Lashley applied the Hurt Lock but Scarlett hit him with a kendo stick. B-Fab knocked her down with a pump kick and put her through a table with a Russian leg sweep.
Kross hit Lashley with a Saito Suplex for two. Kross wasnât happy with referee Bubba Ray and shoved him. Bubba put on his thick-rimmed glasses and Kross turned around into a Lashley spear.
Lashley and Ford held down Kross so Dawkins could hit a D-Von Dudley headbutt to the nuts. Bubba called for them to get the tables. They did but it broke too early so they grabbed another.
Ford put Kross through the table with a frog splash and Lashley made the cover for the pinfall win.
This felt like an Attitude Era hardcore match meant to kill time between the important matches. Of course, they kill enough time on these shows now with packages and commercials. Speaking of whichâŠ
********
There was a Bloodline/Rhodes video package.
Kayla Braxton interviewed Paul Heyman. She asked what Bloodline rules entailed. He mocked her and said it meant whatever they wanted it to mean. The match would only end when one man walked out the winner and the other man went home to his wife Brandi.
There were commercials for WWE 2K24 and Slim Jam. LA Knight arrived in the Slim Jim car. There was an LA Knight/AJ Styles video package.
********
AJ Styles has new music.
LA Knight defeated AJ Styles (12:28)
We didnât get to hear much of Stylesâ music because he raced to the ring to go after Knight but Knight easily got the better of him. Styles went after Knightâs leg but Knight came back with a Russian leg sweep, stomps, running knee in the corner and tornado DDT for two. Styles dropped him face-first onto the turnbuckle. He followed with a German suplex and facebuster for two. Styles went to the top but took too long and Knight tripped him.
Knight bit Stylesâ face so Styles returned the favour by raking Knightâs eyes. Knight leaped back up and hit a super release German suplex, which looked awesome. (McAfee asked them to confirm the name of the move and Cole admitted he learned a lot of move names by calling the video game.) Styles applied a calf crusher but Knight got a rope break.
Styles dropped Knightâs knee pad and kicked his leg into the ring post. He seemed to set up for a figure four in the ring post but Knight pulled him into the post.
Knight removed the black floor mats but it wasnât concrete underneath. Instead, it was the boards they put over ice or grass when they convert a venue to basketball or a concert. Anyway, Knight tried a powerbomb but Styles countered with a backbody drop onto the boards.
This match was fine, maybe even good, but the crowd seemed bored other than being able to yell âYeah.â
********
They aired clips from the Hall of Fame and introduced this yearâs class onto the stage. Paul Heyman got a separate entrance and he entered to the ECW theme.
A bunch of videos aired including a video package for the next match. Itâs been about 15 minutes since the LA Knight segment ended.
********
Logan Paul entered first, in part because he entered on a pickup truck with a Prime bottle âcannonâ attached. He entered with someone in a Prime bottle suit. The announcers speculated that it could be KSI.
As Owens entered Gorilla position, he was met by Sami Zayn. Zayn told him it was his turn tonight. Owens drove down in a golf cart.
Ortonâs music hit before Owens hit the ring, so Owens backed up the cart and invited Orton to join. Orton stood on the back of the cart as Owens drove down. Orton motioned to Owens to slow down but he didnât. They both made it safely to the ring.
(I forgot to mention it earlier but Punk blew a kiss to McIntyreâs wife earlier. I thought of it here after Owens waved at someone in the crowd.)
Triple Threat Match: Logan Paul defeated Kevin Owens and Randy Orton to retain the United States Championship (17:39)
Paul tried pitting Owens and Orton against each other but it didnât work. They teamed up on Paul and beat him up for a good three minutes until they both went for a cover simultaneously. Owens seemingly reasoned with Orton but Orton went for an RKO. Owens blocked it and was annoyed. Orton tried reasoning with Owens. They agreed to start fighting so they traded fists until Paul knocked them down with a double Buckshot lariat.
The crowd chanted âGatoradeâ at Paul, which was funny. Owens tried a diving senton but Paul got his knees up. Paul hit a diving senton and transitioned perfectly into a splash on Orton for two. That was cool. Paul and Orton traded uppercuts and the announcers put over Paul who got the better of it. The crowd booed. Orton poked him in the eyes. Orton clotheslined Owens and hit a powerslam. Paul tried a springboard move but Orton grabbed him and hit a powerslam.
Orton hit Paul and Owens with a double draping DDT. Owens superkicked both guys. Owens hit Orton with a Codebreaker while falling on Paul with a senton. (Cole mentioned that Owens beat Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 33.) Owens gave Paul a package powerslam and moonsault for two. (Paul slipped as Owens set up his first move but Owens managed to adjust in time.)
Orton blocked a pop-up powerbomb and hit an RKO for a nearfall. Paul punched Orton with the brass knux but Orton kicked out. Paul knocked out Owens with the knux too. Paul tried another punch with the knux but Orton countered into an RKO.
Orton grabbed the knux but gave them to the referee. Orton went for a punt but the Prime bottle mascot saved Paul. The Prime bottle revealed himself to be IShowSpeed. (Heâs a Youtuber. I had to frantically Google this.) He barked at Orton so Orton booted him. Orton barked at him (which was hilarious) and gave him an RKO onto the announce desk.
Owens gave Paul a pop-up powerbomb and stunned Orton for a nearfall. Owens tried a pop-up powerbomb but Orton countered into an RKO. Paul chucked Orton from the ring and gave Owens a frog splash for the pinfall win. Paul retains.
This was really fun.

Bayley had an Egyptian-themed entrance and was carried out by four dudes. Graves noted there was Rosicrucian Park (an Egyptian museum) in the Bay Area where Bayley grew up.
Bayley defeated Iyo Sky to win the WWE Womenâs Championship (14:23)
Bayley hit a suicide dive early in the match but sold her leg upon landing. Sky targetted the leg and smashed it against the ring post. Sky applied a leg lock on the apron as Cole spoke about Bayleyâs past leg injury. Sky worked her over but Bayley chucked Sky into the timekeeperâs area. Sky tried a dive off the barricade but Bayley countered into a spinebuster. (They noted George Kittle was on his feet watching, presumably cheering on Bayley.)
Sky fought back and hit a moonsault outside the ring. Bayley came back with a sunset flip powerbomb into the bottom turnbuckle for two. (Parts of the crowd sang the Bayley song throughout much of the match.)
Sky hit a German suplex, rolled through and hit another German for two. Bayley got her knees up on a moonsault attempt but that just hurt Bayleyâs knee. Bayley fought through it and went for a flying elbow drop but Sky dodged it and applied a crossface.
Bayley escaped and hit a back elbow but Sky caught her in the crossface again. Bayley tried to get a rope break so Sky caught her in an STF. Bayley fought out and hit Bayley-to-belly for a nearfall.
They traded strikes until Sky hit a backbreaker and moonsault for a nearfall. Sky hit consecutive moonsaults but Bayley dodged a third one. Bayley tried a Roseplant but Sky countered. Bayley came back and hit a clothesline, flying elbow drop and Roseplant for the pinfall win.
I thought this was very good.
********
Michael Che, War and Treaty, T-Pain, George Kittle (who was booed again), Vanessa Hudgens and Lilly Singh were shown at ringside.
The Eagles cheerleaders were in the ring with Snoop Dogg who announced an attendance of 72,755.
The main event is up next.

Rhodes entered first, wearing a weird-looking mask. He handed it off to Brandi who entered on the stage. She stayed back as Rhodes entered. Rhodes seemed pretty emotional upon entering.
An orchestra of young people sang Roman Reigns to the ring.
Bloodline Rules Match: Cody Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns (w/Paul Heyman) to win the Universal Championship (33:26)
The crowd was on its feet as the match began. There were some boos for Rhodes during his entrance but there were loud chants for him as it started. They stood face-to-face with Reigns looking very confident.
Rhodes hit the Goldust uppercut early on. Rhodes dodged a charge and Reigns went shoulder-first into the ring post. Rhodes grabbed a table but Reigns cut him off with a drive-by dropkick. Reigns neatly placed the table back under the ring. Rhodes chucked him into the steel steps.
Reigns was the first to use a weapon, attacking Rhodes with a kendo stick. Reigns tried a David Ortiz swing with the kendo stick but Rhodes ducked and hit a bulldog. Rhodes applied a figure four but Reigns raked his eyes. Reigns worked over Rhodes and said, âIâm gonna miss whoopinâ your ass.â
They fought into the crowd and fought on top of a table. Reigns tried to suplex Rhodes off the table but Rhodes suplexed him on the table. Back in the ring, Rhodes went for Disaster Kick but Reigns countered with a powerbomb. Reigns hit a vertical suplex but Rhodes kicked out at one. Reigns told Rhodes, âThis is my company, you little bitch.â
Reigns hit a fishermanâs suplex for two. Reigns hit repeated clotheslines in the corner but Rhodes came back with superkicks. They knocked each other down with clotheslines. They traded right hands and Rhodes got the better of it. Rhodes hit a powerslam and Disaster Kick for two.
Rhodes went for a Cody Cutter but Reigns caught him and hit a Cody Cutter for two. Reigns laughed and said, âThat move sucks.â Rhodes dodged a Superman punch, hit jabs and a Bionic elbow.
Rhodes cleared the announce desk but Reigns hit a low blow and powerbombed Rhodes through the table. Reigns followed with a Superman punch in the ring for a nearfall. Rhodes blocked a spear and hit a Cody Cutter for two.
Reigns tried a Rock Bottom but Rhodes blocked it and hit a spear for two. (Itâs been 21 minutes with no outside interference.)
â Rhodes hit a Cross Rhodes but Jimmy Uso entered and superkicked Rhodes. Reigns hit a Superman punch.
Jey Uso entered to his music and attacked Jimmy. He speared him off the stage through some tables. Rhodes used the distraction and applied a schoolboy for two and Reigns hit a spear for a nearfall. Rhodes speared Reigns through the barricade.
Rhodes hit Reigns with consecutive Cross Rhodes but Solo Sikoa caught him with a Samoan Spike. Sikoa placed Reigns into a cover but Rhodes kicked out. Sikoa hammered away at Rhodes and demanded that Reigns finish it. He held up Rhodes and Reigns hit a spear for two.
John Cena entered. Cena took out Sikoa and gave Reigns an AA. The crowd went crazy. Cena put Sikoa through the announce table with an AA.
The Rock entered to his music and Cena knew what was coming. Cena entered the ring as Rock walked down. Rock and Cena faced off as the crowd chanted âholy sh*t.â Cena took a swing but Rock ducked and dropped him with a Rock Bottom.
The Shieldâs music hit. Rollins tried to enter in his Shield gear but Reigns saw him and easily laid him out with a Superman punch.
The Undertakerâs dong went off and he appeared in the ring behind the Rock. Undertaker chokeslammed Rock. The lights went out and Taker disappeared.
When the lights came back, only Rhodes and Reigns (and Rollins) were visible. Reigns hit Rollins with a chair (the way Rollins hit him with a chair when he turned on the Shield). That distraction allowed Rhodes to hit Reigns with consecutive Cross Rhodes.
Rhodes hit one more Cross Rhodes for the pinfall win. Rhodes is the champion.
Brandi Rhodes entered to celebrate with her husband.
After some replays, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, John Cena, LA Knight, Randy Orton and Brandi Rhodes celebrated with Cody. Jey and Sami hoisted Rhodes on their shoulders. CM Punk and Michelle entered too and celebrated. Rhodes hugged his mom. More members of the Rhodes family entered as Rhodes gave the title belt to his mom.
Rhodes grabbed a microphone. The crowd chanted for him. Rhodes said he was surrounded by greatest in the ring and greatness in the stadium. Rhodes called out Bruce Prichard and Triple H because this couldnât happen without them. Prichard and Triple H entered.
Triple H, the booker of the show, embraced Rhodes. They had a moment before Zayn and Orton held Rhodes up on their shoulders.
Rhodes hugged Cole and embraced the other announcers.
Rhodes shook hands with Rollins. Triple H embraced him one more time.
Everyone left allowing Rhodes to celebrate alone in the ring as fireworks went off.
Cole spoke emotionally about how much this business can get you.
Rhodes embraced Nick Khan in the front row.
*******
[Rhodes won as he should have and they made this feel like a big deal. However, this WrestleMania was really presented as the Triple H show. We should be grateful heâs in charge. They outright told you that you should be thankful heâs in charge. Rhodes attributed his win, in part, to Triple H. Even though weâre supposed to think Rhodes overcame the storyline odds, it was really thanks to Paul Levesque. Levesqueâs was all over both nights. Itâs his show now and he wants you to know it.]
Being at Mercedes Mone’s AEW debut was a special moment for Bayley.
WWE wrestlers Bayley, Naomi, and Tamina were among Mone’s friends who attended the Big Business edition of Dynamite in Boston on March 13. As Mone cut her first AEW promo, Bayley watched on from a skybox at TD Garden.
While speaking with Digital Spy, Bayley said it was special to see Mone celebrate with her friends and family in Boston. Being in different promotions is bittersweet, but Bayley is “very, very, very” proud of Mone.
Bayley said about Mone:
She’s the best. I wouldn’t be here without her. She’s done so much for me, even after she was done with WWE, she’s been there for me in my big moments. So I know I need to be there for her continuously throughout the years.
It was incredible. I’m just happy that she was on a Wednesday where I’m like, ‘Alright, I can actually make a Wednesday, that’s one of our few days off.’
It was really special to see her celebrate that with her family and her friends and people she started wrestling with and see her welcomed by a new family.
It’s bittersweet, but I’m very, very, very proud of her and just so grateful we got to be there.
Earlier this year, Bayley told Sports Illustrated that she believes she’ll always be destined for one more match against Mone (the former Sasha Banks).
Bayley will be in one of the top matches at WWE WrestleMania 40 this April, challenging IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s Championship. Bayley secured the title shot by winning the 2024 women’s Royal Rumble match.
