As is tradition during their pay-per-view weekends, AEW will air a special edition of Dark: Elevation on Saturday, headlined by the AEW Tag Team Champions and one of the finalists in the Trios title tournament.
Fresh off their Friday win over Best Friends to cement their spot in the Trios title finals, Hangman Page and Dark Order’s John Silver & Alex Reynolds will take on The Factory’s Cole Karter, Aaron Solo & Nick Comoroto.
Page, Silver & Reynolds will face Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks at Sunday’s All Out to crown the inaugural Trios Tag Team Champions.
AEW Tag Team Champions Keith Lee & Shane Strickland will take on Storm Grayson & Jah-C ahead of their Sunday defense vs. The Acclaimed. The challengers will also be in action against Invictus Kash & JPH.
Best Friends & Orange Cassidy will look to rebound from Friday’s defeat when they face Angelico, The Butcher & The Blade in trios action.
Ahead of their challenge of AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo Sunday, Ruby Soho & Ortiz will face Emi Sakura & Bailyan Akki while Guevara & Melo take on GPA & Lady Luck.
Here’s the lineup:
Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo vs. GPA & Lady Luck
AEW Tag Team Champions Keith Lee & Shane Strickland vs. Storm Grayson & Jah-C
Dark Order (Hangman Page, John Silver & Alex Reynolds) vs. The Factory
Ruby Soho & Ortiz vs. Emi Sakura & Baliyan Akki
Best Friends & Orange Cassidy (w/ Danhausen) vs. The Butcher, The Blade & Angelico
The following are AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation spoilers from the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, taped prior to and after Wednesday’s Dynamite.
AEW Dark: Elevation
Excalibur & Matt Menard were on the call.
Julia Hart defeated Alice Crowley
Tony Nese & Josh Woods (w/ Mark Sterling) defeated Renny D & Jordan Kross
Serena Deeb defeated Nikki Victory
Private Party defeated JTX & Brennan Gore. Matt Hardy came out on the stage to congratulate Private Party, continuing an angle from this past Monday’s Dark: Elevation.
Skye Blue defeated Diamante
Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose (w/Vickie Guerrero) defeated Queen Aminata & Madison Rayne
AEW Dark (set to air on Saturday):
Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo defeated GPA & Lady Luck
AEW World Tag Team Champions Keith Lee & Shane Strickland defeated Storm Grayson & Jah-C.
Hangman Page, John Silver, and Alex Reynolds defeated The Factory
Excalibur and Matt Menard were on the call for this packed edition of AEW Dark: Elevation taped last Wednesday before Dynamite in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dante Martin defeated Wes Barkley
Martin was on the offensive for most of this match — another great way to get the young star over. Everything Barkley did, Martin quickly countered it with, as Menard said, “everything is a flip with this kid.” Martin planted Barkley with his Nosedive finisher for an easy win.
Julia Hart defeated Arie Alexander
Hart has such an awesome entrance. Of course, nothing lives up to the Undertaker’s iconic entrance, but it does give me those vibes. I think Alexander managed to move out of the way of one single move in this match. Hart hit a standing moonsault and locked in her Hartless Lock for the submission win.
Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose defeated Queen Aminata & Skye Blue
Aminata has been making some noise on the indie scene at the last two Terminus events against Killa Kate and Masha Slamovich. Tonight, she returns to the Dark shows to team with the lovely Blue who is yet again in a tag team match with a different partner.
They definitely didn’t get off to the hottest start in this match. Rose was dominant as always. Aminata got some offense in, but Shafir countered a clothesline to bring it back. She then hit Blue with a nasty german suplex followed by Shafir and Rose hitting an assisted DDT that they definitely messed up on. But, they got the win regardless.
Matt Hardy defeated RSP
This is Rickey Shane Page’s first appearance on AEW TV in over a year. In the middle of the match, former Hardy clients Private Party came out on the stage and watched. After they came out, RSP hit a huge roundhouse kick and then went for a senton off the top rope but Hardy moved out of the way.
Hardy made his way to the middle rope and landed an elbow, followed by the Twist of Fate for the win. Nothing really came from the Private Party situation…for now.
Serena Deeb defeated Katie Arquette
Deeb locked in the flying Octopus Hold early. Arquette fought out of it but Deeb then locked in the Serenity Lock soon after for the quick tap.
Frankie Kazarian defeated Adrian Gretchell
I couldn’t really find anything on Gretchell, but he had an entertaining match with Kazarian. It was one of the most back-and-forth matches of the night with each man getting in their offense. Kazarian locked in the crossface chicken wing after a leg drop to get the win in his first appearance since late-June’s Royal Rampage match.
Rush, The Blade & The Butcher defeated Chase Oliver, Elijah Dean & Zach Nystrom
The indie team was comprised of guys from both AIW and NEW, respectively. They didn’t really have much of a chance in this one, though. The only time they really got any offense in was when Blade entered the match, but even then, it turned around quickly. Rush got back into the match with a massive dropkick in the corner to pick up the win.
Hikaru Shida defeated Emi Sakura to retain the Regina Di WAVE Title
The title in contention is the Regina Di WAVE belt from Japan’s Pro Wrestling WAVE. Shida won the title by defeating Suzu Suzuki earlier this month. This match was put into motion on last Monday’s show.
Sakura came out of the gates hot, hitting a huge clothesline and then pulling Sakura’s hair to drive her head into the turnbuckle. The action went to the outside where Shida pulled out a chair and went for a senton off of it. Sakura caught her in the air and hit a back suplex on to the same chair.
Back in the ring, Sakura connected on a piledriver and moonsault for near falls both times. Shida fought her way back into the match and then opened up her shirt, tempting Sakura to engage in a chopping contest. Sakura tried to use the ref as a shield and then poked the eyes of Shida.
Sakura kept trying to hit the Queen’s Gambit, but Shida kept getting out of it. She connected with a big right elbow that set up a running knee for a near fall. She followed it up with the Kitana spinning kick to the head for the win.
Final Thoughts:
This was a super fun show that got the point across and everything that needed to happen did happen. I have seen so many Dark shows where there are no story elements and there’s no reason to care. But, on this show, they pushed a Private Party/Hardy angle and the main event included a championship. I always love to see stuff like this. It should be a fun start to the All Out week they have planned.
The Regina Di Wave Championship from Japan’s WAVE promotion will be defended on AEW Dark: Elevation.
Hikaru Shida will put the title on the line against Emi Sakura. It will be Shida’s first defense since defeating Suzu Suzuki for the belt at the WAVE 15th Anniversary show on August 14.
Dante Martin, Julia Hart, Serena Deeb, Rush, and Matt Hardy are all also scheduled for Dark: Elevation this week. The show was filmed from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio last Wednesday.
AEW Dark: Elevation airs Monday at 7 p.m Eastern time on YouTube. The lineup for the show is as follows:
Regina di Wave Champion Hikaru Shida defends against Emi Sakura
Frankie Kazarian vs. Andrea Guercio
Dante Martin vs. Wes Barkley
Julia Hart vs. Arie Alexander
Serena Deeb vs. Katie Arquette
Rush, The Butcher & The Blade vs. Elijah, Zach Nystrom, & Chase Oliver
Matt Hardy vs. RSP
Nyla Rose & Marina Shafir vs. Queen Aminata & Skye Blue
Here are spoilers for AEW Dark Elevation and Rampage, taped before and after today’s live edition of Dynamite.
AEW Dark Elevation:
Dante Martin defeated Wes Barkley
Julia Hart defeated Arie Alexander
Nyla Rose and Marina Shafir defeated Skye Blue and Queen Aminata
Matt Hardy defeated RSP. Private Party came out during the match and watched on top of the ramp.
Serena Deeb defeated Katie Arquette
Frankie Kazarian defeated a local talent
Rush, The Butcher, and The Blade defeated Elijah Dean, Zach Nystrom, and Chase Oliver
Hikaru Shida defeated Emi Sakura to retain the Regina Di WAVE Championship.
AEW Rampage:
Dark Order (John Silver, 10, and Alex Reynolds) defeated House of Black (Malaki Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews to advance in the AEW Trios title tournament. The finish had Miro coming out and distracting the House of Black, allowing Reynolds to pin Black. House of Black attacked Miro after the match until Sting and Darby Allin made the save.
Wardlow defeated Ryan Nemeth to retain the TNT Championship. Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Satnam Singh, and Chris Sabin were on the ramp watching.
Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Ashton Day with a spinebuster.
Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo defeated Ortiz and Ruby Soho after Anna Jay-AS attacked Soho and threw her back in the ring.
Claudio Castagnoli defeated Dustin Rhodes to retain the ROH World Championship. Arn and Brock Anderson were at ringside in Rhodes’ corner.
It’s Monday and you know what that means: AEW Dark: Elevation with matches taped last Wednesday in Charleston, West Virginia. Excalibur and Matt Menard were on commentary.
Anna Jay A.S. (w/ Angelo Parker) defeated Nikki Victory (1:02)
The commentary team didn’t inform us if there was any relation between Nikki Victory and Jack Victory. Jay won quickly with a hook kick into the Queen Slayer for the tapout.
Soho hit the No Future on Midas, who then walked right into a fisherman’s bomb from Ortiz for the pinfall. Ortiz did his best Rick Rude imitation to all four sides of the arena to give Soho the vapors.
Dante Martin defeated Jackson Drake (2:26)
Drake hit a fantastic fisherman’s suplex early for a near fall. Drake countered Martin’s attempt at a vertical suplex, but Martin reversed the reversal and got the suplex anyway. Martin got a near fall after a top rope crossbody and later got the pin after a half and half suplex that he turned into an uranage. They might have gone home early here. Drake was bleeding from the nose and/or mouth right before the finish.
Serena Deeb defeated Megan Meyers (2:56)
I don’t know why Excalibur needs to do commentary on every show, but he and Menard make a fantastic team. Deeb tied up Meyers in an Indian death lock and clawed at Meyers’ face while soaking in the boos from the crowd. Meyers mounted a brief comeback and then ran into a stiff clothesline from Deeb. Deeb hit a twist & shout neckbreaker and got the submission with the Serenity Lock.
Dark Order’s John Silver, Alex Reynolds & 10 (w/ Evil Uno) defeated D’Mone Solavino, Alexander Apollo & RC Dupree
There was a huge “Johnny Hungie!” chant from the crowd before the match started. Reynolds got caught in the heel corner after an eye rake from Solavino. 10 got the hot tag and overpowered all of his opponents. Dupree got hit with Silver and Reynolds’ rapid fire finishing sequence (rolling elbow into a gamengiri into a stunner into a german suplex), and then 10 finished off Dupree with a clothesline. Silver was so excited to celebrate the win he almost forgot to get the pinfall.
Julia Hart defeated Hayley Shadows (2:06)
Just based on surnames, Shadows should be in the House of Black. Hart should walk to the ring a lot slower to really sell her character change. I will say her new theme is a great fit for the character change.
Shadows walked into a kick from Hart immediately and then Hart dominated. Shadows got a flash rollup for a near fall and Hart responded with a thrust kick. Hart locked in a variation of the Rings of Saturn to get the tapout.
Tony Nese & Josh Woods (w/ “Smart” Mark Sterling) defeated Andrea Guercio & Logan James
Woods got Guercio with a doctor bomb for a near fall that was broken up by James. Nese disposed of James while Woods caught Guercio with an Olympic Slam out of the corner as Nese ran in to add a swinging neckbreaker at the same time. Woods then got the pinfall.
Death Triangle (AEW All-Atlantic Champion PAC, Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo) defeated Rosario Grillo, Dean Alexander & “Manscout” Jake Manning
Everything PAC does in the ring is so smooth. This was a warm-up for Death Triangle before their match on Wednesday with Will Ospreay and Aussie Open. Penta got the win with the Fear Factor Package piledriver.
After the match, they brought a kid in the ring to celebrate his birthday and Penta gave him his gloves.
The crowd was very into Itoh as she sang her way to the ring.
Shida wore the Regina Di WAVE championship belt to the ring that she won recently in Japan. The heels jumped Shida and Blue before the bell. Shida hurt her hand trying to punch Itoh, but avoided the kokeshi headbutt. Sakura dominated Blue, catching her in the corner with “We will chop you!” and a crossbody. Blue caught Itoh with an enziguri and got the tag to Shida.
Shida caught Ito with an elbow to the jaw, giving Itoh ten punches in the corner (and the camera work did them no favors; it was clear that Shida was hitting her own hand, not Itoh’s head). Shida caught Itoh with a brainbuster and got involved in a tussle in the ropes with Sakura, but got caught from behind with a headbutt from Itoh.
Itoh hit the kokeshi diving headbutt and got the tag to Sakura. Shida came back with forearms on Shida, but Sakura connected with a boot. Shida caught Sakura with a step up hurricanrana, and tags were made on both sides.
Blue tried to send Itoh into the turnbuckles headfirst, but Itoh has an iron head so that didn’t work. Itoh dropped Blue with a headbutt, and then held out her knee for Sakura to drive Blue into gut first. Shida broke up a pinfall attempt and all four women started brawling.
Sakura dropped Shida with a backdrop suplex. Blue went for a superkick, but Sakura ducked and Blue caught Shida with the kick. Itoh came off the middle ropes with a DDT on Shida, and they both fought to the floor. This left Sakura alone in the ring with Blue. Sakura hit Blue with a spinning backbreaker and finished her off with the Queen’s Gambit (Stormbreaker) for the pinfall.
After the match, Sakura challenged Shida for a Regina Di WAVE championship.
Final Thoughts:
It’s a shame that Shida and Sakura are only mixing it up with each other on AEW Dark as they should be on the main shows and in the mix with other performers. This was the best Skye Blue has looked.
Elevation has a fresher energy than Tuesday’s Dark shows, probably because it’s being taped right before Dynamite. They really only need one of these shows.
AEW has announced nine matches for Dark: Elevation.
This week’s episode was filmed on Wednesday, August 17 from the Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, West Virginia.
Ahead of their first-round match in the Trios tournament Wednesday in Cleveland, Death Triangle will be in action on Monday’s show. They will face Rosario Grillo, Manscout, & Dean Alexander.
Maki Itoh will return to AEW for the first time since May on Dark: Elevation this week. She’ll team with Emi Sakura to face Hikaru Shida & Skye Blue.
Ruby Soho will also team with Ortiz to take on Aminata & Mikey Midas in mixed tag action.
Tony Nese, Josh Woods, Julia Hart, Anna Jay, Dante Martin, Serena Deeb, and the Dark Order are all scheduled for the show as well.
AEW Dark: Elevation airs beginning at 7 p.m Eastern time on YouTube. The announced card for the show is as follows:
Death Triangle (Penta Oscura, Rey Fenix, & PAC) vs. Rosario Grillo, Manscout, & Dean Alexander
Tony Nese & Josh Woods vs. Andrea Guericio & Logan James
Julia Hart vs. Hayley Shadows
Hikaru Shida & Skye Blue vs. Emi Sakura & Maki Itoh
Ruby Soho & Ortiz vs. Queen Aminata & Mikey Midas
Anna Jay vs. Nikki Victory
Dante Martin vs. Jackson Drake
Serena Deeb vs. Megan Meyers
The Dark Order’s Alex Reynolds, John Silver & Ten vs. D’Mone Solavino, Alexander Apollo & RC Dupree
This week’s edition of AEW Dark Elevation was filmed before Quake by the Lake last week in Minneapolis. Excalibur and “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard were on the call to start the show.
Josh Woods & Tony Nese (w/ Mark Sterling) defeated Arik Cannon & Travis Titan
The two indie competitors in this one come from the midwest area and got a big pop from the crowd, especially Arik Cannon, who comes from the Twin Cities area. The team of Woods and Nese targeted Titan to start the match, working slowly. Cannon got the hot tag and worked to the crowd but Woods broke up a near fall after a corkscrew suplex. Woods and Nese each hit hard knees onto their opponents and then connected on an assisted neck breaker for the win.
The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver & 10) defeated Adam Grace, Drew System, Rylie Jackson & TJ Cooper
John Silver started out the match showing off his great power. Each Dark Order member took their turn hitting their own creative move. The Dark Order cleared out the ring and then chose to do the finish on this poor fella that was wearing short shorts and plaid leggings. The Dark Order connected with a pendulum slam and pinned System for the win.
They started the contest with a test of strength and Deeb won, but Sierra fought back with some forearms. This match was mostly back and forth until Deeb hit the detox followed by the serenity lock for the win.
Konosuke Takeshita defeated Cezar Bononi
They worked really hard and it made for a fun, quick match. This was Bononi’s first appearance in AEW in a month and with how over Takeshita is right now, you can expect where this one was going. Cezar Bononi was working full heel, using the ropes and other dirty tactics. Cezar Bononi hit a big back elbow and a tiger driver for a near fall. Takeshita fought back with two huge knees that knocked out Bononi for the win.
Julia Hart defeated Free-Range Kara
Lots of wrestlers tonight come from the F1RST Organization based in Minneapolis, including Kara.
Julia Hart got out of the gates hot, with a big boot and hellacious clothesline on the outside. I think Kara got in one offensive move during the entire match. Hart took her down by the neck then locked in an abdominal submission for the win. That is now Julia Hart’s 8th straight win in AEW.
I think Private Party’s entrance took longer than this match did. They got it over with quickly, taking out both members and quickly connected with the Gin and Juice for the win. Private Party takes on the tag team champions Swerve in Our Glory on Friday’s Rampage.
Penelope Ford defeated Heather Reckless
This was Ford’s first appearance with AEW since January of this year. She dominated in her return except for a few right hands from Reckless. Ford rolled out of the ring and baited Reckless into a right hand and threw her hard into the barricade. Commentary noticed Kip Sabian in the front row with the box on his head. He’s been stalking PAC in recent weeks during his All-Atlantic Title matches.
Ford rolled Reckless back into the ring, hit the gutbuster, then locked in the Indian Deathlock for the win.
The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) defeated JT Energy & Justin Fowler
Max Caster had a great freestyle to kick things off, mentioning things like the Trump FBI raid and the breakup of Kim K and Pete Davidson.
The Acclaimed were great as always, coordinating on huge moves in the corner and cleared the ring of both JT Energy and Justin Fowler. They hit their patented scissor handshake, then Caster connected with an elbow drop for the win.
Thunder Storm (Thunder Rosa & Toni Storm) & Hikaru Shida defeated Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero)
Shida and Sakura got things started. but it didn’t last very long. Both teams entered the ring quickly and knocked each other off. The heel team got the upper hand first with Emi Sakura folding up Shida and sipping on her tea. Rose came in and was followed by Toni Storm who took out the entire heel team. This was a hot match with nonstop action. Toni Storm hit a hip attack in the corner and then countered a suplex with a DDT on Shafir for the win.
Final Thoughts:
Lots of matches on this short 45-minute show. I loved the matches that had a direction, but others just felt like a waste of time, especially considering how much talent AEW has on the roster. It’s fun when you are there in the crowd, you can see some fan favorites. But at home watching on YouTube, most of it feels pointless.
AEW has announced nine matches for Dark: Elevation.
Hikaru Shida will team with Toni Storm and AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa on the show. They will take on Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir, and Nyla Rose in trios action.
Penelope Ford makes her return to the ring as well and will face Heather Reckless in singles competition. Ford hasn’t wrestled since January. Tony Khan previously stated that she was not medically cleared but did not reveal further details regarding the nature of her injury.
Other notable matches scheduled to air include the Acclaimed vs. Justin Fowler & JT Energy, Julia Hart vs. Free-Range Kara, and Serena Deeb vs. Sierra.
AEW Dark: Elevation airs at 7 p.m Eastern time on YouTube. The show was filmed on Wednesday, August 10 from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The announced lineup is as follows:
Hikaru Shida & Thunderstorm (Thunder Rosa & Toni Storm) vs. Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose
The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) vs. Justin Fowler & JT Energy
Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy) vs. JAH-C & JDX
Julia Hart vs. Free-Range Kara
Penelope Ford vs. Heather Reckless
The Dark Order’s John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno & Ten vs. T.U.G Cooper, Drew System, Rylie Jackson & Adam Grace
Tony Nese & Josh Woods w/ “Smart” Mark Sterling vs. Travis Titan & Arik Cannon
The following contains spoilers for AEW Dark Elevation.
Penelope Ford is back.
Ford returned to action prior to Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, defeating Heather Reckless on AEW Dark Elevation. She had been out of action since January, last wrestling on the episode of AEW Dark that aired on January 15 defeating Angelica Risk.
Last month, a fan asked Tony Khan on Twitter if he had “given up” on Ford. However, Khan said it was the “total opposite” and that she wasn’t medically cleared to return to the ring.
Here are full spoilers for AEW Dark Elevation:
Tony Neese and Josh Woods defeated Arik Cannon and Travis Titan
Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver, and 10 defeated Adam Grace, Riley Jackson, Drew System, and TJ Cooper
Serena Deeb defeated Sierra
Konosuke Takeshita defeated Ryan Nemeth
Julia Hart defeated Free Range Kara
Private Party defeated Jah-C and JEX
Penelope Ford defeated Heather Reckless
The Acclaimed defeated JT Energy and Justin Fowley
Hikaru Shida, Thunder Rosa, and Toni Storm defeated Nyla Rose, Emi Sakura, and Marina Shafir
Both Victory and Myers have been on the Dark shows before, but this was their first time teaming with each other as it was for Soho & Blue. Myers showed some nice offense early and both women were given a decent amount against their name-brand competition.
Blue superkicked Victory out of the ring and Soho got the pin on Myers after hitting her CrossRhodes-like finisher.
Parker Boudreaux (w/ Ari Daivari) defeated Casey Carrington
This was the second match for both guys, but they are obviously on two different AEW career paths. Boudreaux has Jane’s Addiction-esque entrance music which is probably a tie in with the Entourage theme song ‘Superhero’ by the same band. Because, well, Ari.
Boudreaux got the win with a backdrop suplex driver of sorts. This was less of a match than Boudreaux hitting big power moves without any semblance of a story.
Athena defeated Queen Aminata
Aminata was looking for her first win in her second outing while Athena is looking to remain unbeaten.
Athena hit a nice dropkick on the outside that took Aminata into the guardrail. Aminata definitely has something in the charisma department and plays a great heel.
Athena got the win after hitting spinning knees to the face off a fireman’s carry followed by the Eclipse. She is now 4-0 in AEW singles action and needs to start getting some steam behind her. Perhaps that starts this week.
Kiera Hogan & Leila Grey defeated Freya States & Alice Crowley
This was the first tag team match for the two Baddies team members who still don’t like each other. This was pretty bad as States didn’t make a great accounting of herself. Hogan got the win after a kick to the back of Crowley’s head. Hogan and Grey continued to squabble afterward.
Dark Order’s John Silver & Alex Reynolds defeated T.U.G. Cooper & Lord Crewe
Crewe and Cooper are Dark regulars while Silver & Reynolds have pretty much been in a holding pattern the last few months along with the rest of Dark Order. They picked up the win after their finisher medley, completed by a Reynolds pin.
Henry said that we don’t need a replay of the finish as it will “be embedded in our brains forever.” Alright, then.
Lucha Bros defeated The Wingmen (Peter Avalon & Ryan Nemeth)
The crowd finally came alive after being fairly quiet for the duration. Penta is now back to his El Zero Miedo version rather than Oscuro.
Avalon and Nemeth were more into showing off their bodies and screwing around until Fenix and Penta had enough with double superkicks.
As Penta hit double sling blades, Henry asked if anyone does them better. Alright, then.
Penta and Fenix got to show off their impressive display of offense but Nemeth and Avalon rallied on Fenix with the former landing an elevated DDT.
It didn’t last long as they hit double superkicks on Nemeth, followed by a top rope Spanish fly to Avalon followed by the double team Fear Factor on him to get the win.
Afterward, Andrade El Idolo, Rush and Jose The Assistant came down to ringside ahead of their lucha rules tag team match this Wednesday on Dynamite. They got up on the ring apron and teased getting in, only to jump down and back down.
That’s a wrap for this week’s Dark: Elevation. There was nothing on this week’s show you need to go out of your way to see.
AEW has announced six matches for Dark: Elevation.
The show was filmed on Wednesday, August 3 from the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Athena will be in action on the show. She will take on Queen Aminata in singles competition. Ruby Soho will also team up with Skye Blue to take on Megan Myers & Nikki Victory.
Kiera Hogan will team with the “interim baddie” Leila Grey in a tag team contest against Freya States & Alice Crowley.
The Lucha Bros will also be on Dark: Elevation this week. They will take on the Wingmen’s Peter Avalon & Ryan Nemeth.
AEW Dark: Elevation airs Monday at 7 p.m Eastern Time on YouTube. The announced lineup for the show is as follows:
Athena vs. Queen Aminata
John Silver & Alex Reynolds vs. T.U.G Cooper & Lord Crewe
Kiera Hogan & Leila Grey vs. Freya States & Alice Crowley
Ruby Soho & Skye Blue vs. Megan Myers & Nikki Victory
Parker Boudreaux w/ Ari Daivari vs. Casey Carrington
The Lucha Bros (Penta Oscuro & Rey Fenix) w/ Alex Abrahantes vs. The Wingmen (Peter Avalon & Ryan Nemeth)
Taped in Columbus, Ohio, with Mark Henry, Tony Schiavone and Madison Rayne on commentary. Schiavone introduced Rayne as the “head women’s coach” of AEW.
Hikaru Shida defeated Emi Sakura
Sakura won a slugfest early and chopped Shida into the corner, but Shida took her down with a shoulder block.
The fight went to the floor and Sakura whipped Shida between the ring apron and the ringside barricade. Sakura had a great spot in the corner where she chopped Shida to the rhythm of “We Will Rock You.” If Excalibur and Taz were on commentary they would have called it the “We Will Chop You.”
Shida came back with a suplex and a running knee in the corner, then a dropkick in the corner. A brainbuster from Shida got a near fall. After some misdirection around the ring ropes, Sakura caught Shida with a double underhook backbreaker.
Shida caught Sakura with a high knee and a sliding forearm for a near fall. Sakura hit a double underhook powerbomb for a near fall.
Sakura went for a double underhook again. Shida escaped, hit a hurricanrana, came off the top with a spin kick, and finished off Sakura with a knee strike for the pinfall.
**********
Jade Cargill and Stokely Hathaway came out to introduce themselves to Madison Rayne. Rayne was not impressed. Rayne announced she would be an in-ring competitor and suggested she’d challenge Jade Cargill.
Cargill will be busy tomorrow night during Rampage, but Leila Grey will be available. Grey v. Rayne was made for Rampage tomorrow night.
**********
Mance Warner defeated Serpentico (w/ Luther)
Luther attacked Warner when the fight went to the floor, hitting a pump kick and throwing Warner into the ring barricade. Back in the ring, Serpentico choked Warner against the ropes and delivered a suplex.
Warner came back with a pair of clotheslines and a big boot that Serpentico sold with a 360 bump. Serpentico came back with a flatliner for a near fall. Serpentico went for a powerbomb, but Warner escaped.
Warner hit a clothesline, a running knee and a DDT to get the pinfall.
Tony Nese & Josh Woods (w/ “Smart” Mark Sterling) defeated Damian Chambers & Dean Alexander
Woods tossed around Chambers and buried knees into his midsection. Nese got a near fall with a stomach buster on Chambers, but Alexander slid in to break up the pinfall.
Woods ran in and hit Alexander with a pair of stiff knees that took him out of the match. Chambers went to the top and Nese caught him with a flying uppercut.
Woods got the tag, charged in with a forearm on Chambers, then rolled Woods up into a German suplex on Chambers to get the pinfall. Pretty brutal squash.
**********
A Mance Warner pre-taped promo about his match with Jon Moxley ended the show.
Final thoughts —
They can run Elevation (or Dark) five nights a week if they keep it to 30 minutes. It was also a nice touch to set up a match on Rampage.
Mance Warner will make his in-ring debut for AEW on a special three-match Thursday edition of Dark: Elevation that will set up Friday’s live Rampage.
Tony Khan announced the news early Thursday morning after the matches were taped prior to Wednesday’s Dynamite.
Warner will take on Serpentico ahead of his match with interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley on Rampage. If Warner wins, he will earn a future title shot.
Ahead of their challenge of AEW Tag Team Champions Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland in a street fight Friday, Tony Nese & Josh Woods will be in action against Damian Chambers and Dean Alexander.
Former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida will take on old rival Emi Sakura in singles action with new women’s coach Madison Rayne on commentary. Rayne will make her in-ring debut for AEW on Friday.
Here’s the current lineup:
Mance Warner vs. Serpentico
Tony Nese & Josh Woods vs. Damian Chamber & Dean Alexander
This week’s edition of AEW Dark: Elevation was taped last Wednesday before Dynamite in Worcester, MA, with the wonderful Tony Schiavone and Mark Henry on the call.
Julia Hart defeated LMK
In the second AEW match of her career, Little Mean Kathleen (LMK) from Beyond Wrestling faced the menacing Hart.
LMK started with a huge slap that really seemed to tick off the newest member of the House of Black. Hart used her gymnastics background to hit a cartwheel clothesline in the corner followed by a nasty forearm to the back of LMK’s head. She then locked in her finishing submission for the win.
Leila Grey defeated JC
Grey, who is coming off a loss against TBS Champion Jade Cargill, has been getting looks from Stokely Hathaway as of late. Hopefully, he didn’t see this one because it was sloppy. Gray hit a fisherman’s suplex, a senton, and then an odd-looking knee to the face for the win.
AFO’s Angelico, Private Party and The Butcher & The Blade defeated Joey Ace, The Brick City Boyz & Waves & Curls
This was a lot of sweaty men in this one. As Henry said, it looked like a battle royal was about to break out. It was basically a spotfest with the AEW regulars getting in at least one spot each on the Northeast indie guys. Angelico was the one to end the match with a crazy submission hold that neither I nor Schiavone knew the name of.
The Factory (Aaron Solo, Anthony Ogogo, Nick Comoroto & QT Marshall) defeated BRG, Shook Crew (Bobby Orlando & Bryce Donovan) & T.U.G. Cooper
We just finished up a quick 10-man tag, so now it was time for an eight-man. This featured another group of Northeast Indie wrestlers squashed by The Factory.
The Factory was their normal disrespectful selves. This match was a lot slower and more calculated than the last multi-man match. Comoroto looked really good as a powerhouse just throwing these guys around. Solo connected on a double stomp from the top rope and tagged in Marshall who hit his cutter for the win. This was a really good match for what it was: a Factory squash match.
Cole Karter defeated Serpentico (w/ Luther)
Karter has only been back in AEW for about a month after signing with WWE NXT and seems to be getting a push as his record is now 2-1. The only loss comes from the now former FTW Champion Ricky Starks.
Luther and Serpentico played the heels, distracting the referee and using dirty tactics to get the upper hand. On the other hand, Karter was giving off this pretty boy persona that I don’t particularly see as a babyface. Serpentico actually had most of the offense in this match. He went for a high-risk move off the top, but Karter turned it around into two lariats and a high boot. He followed that with a powerslam that Michael Cole would have called “vintage Randy Orton” to set up a 450 splash for the win.
Later, Karter was backstage for an interview. He was asked about Marshall offering him a spot in The Factory. Before he could even get a word out, The Factory showed up and Marshall put them all over. Karter accepted and is now part of The Factory.
Athena defeated Christina Marie
Athena was great in this match, showing out against Marie with an early tornado springboard splash for a two count. A big forearm and knee set up a half exploder where it looked like Marie got dropped right on her head. Athena followed that with a forearm and double knees which set up the Eclipse for the win. Schiavone pushed for a TBS title shot for Athena after the win.
Hikaru Shida, Toni Storm & Willow Nightingale defeated Emi Sakura, Marina Shafir & Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero)
They really made sure they called this a trios match instead of a six-woman tag team match. Also, the babyface team got a huge reaction from the crowd.
Storm started across from Shafir and they engaged in some great pure wrestling to start. Rose made her way in and hit Storm with a bodyslam and a pin attempt that Nightingale broke up. Each one of the women took their time with Storm, getting the heat in this main event.
After about five minutes of offense from the heels, Nightingale got the hot tag and took out Rose with some forearms in the corner and then Shafir with a pounce that almost sent her out of the ring. Shida got tagged in and the heels just took the advantage again. The entire babyface team ended up hitting a double suplex onto Shafir and Rose. The former AEW Women’s Champion hit the falcon arrow on Sakura while Storm kicked the others out of the ring for the win.
