Unsanctioned lights out steel cage match official for AEW All Out

Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page will settle their differences in a stipulation match at Saturday’s AEW All Out event.

Following the conclusion of Wednesday’s Dynamite where Page committed arson and burned down Strickland’s childhood home, AEW’s Tony Khan announced to the live crowd in Milwaukee that the Page vs. Strickland cage match at All Out will be unsanctioned and contested under lights out rules, meaning the participants win-loss records will not be impacted by the bout.

Eight matches are official for Saturday’s PPV. The current lineup:

On-screen authority figure Christopher Daniels announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite that Kamille will be banned from ringside for the Mone vs. Shida TBS title match on Saturday in Chicago.

Mone defeated Shida in part due to interference from Kamille on the August 14 Dynamite.

Eight matches, including six title bouts, are currently set for Saturday’s All Out event. This is the current card:

In a new match added to Saturday’s card during this week’s Dynamite, AEW Tag Team Champions Matthew & Nicholas Jackson of The Young Bucks will put their titles on the line against Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta of the Blackpool Combat Club.

Castagnoli issued the challenge on behalf of the BCC on Dynamite following a trios win with PAC, Castagnoli, and Yuta defeating Will Ospreay, Kyle O’Reilly, and Orange Cassidy.

Six title matches are among the eight bouts now official for Saturday’s PPV. The current All Out lineup:

Announced following his successful defense over Kyle Fletcher, Okada will face three contenders who will be decided in three singles matches on this Friday’s go-home edition of Collision:

Wrestling Observer Live: WWE Bash in Berlin fallout

Despite being a little under the weather, I am back with the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live to wrap up the weekend.

WWE Bash in Berlin took place on Saturday where Gunther retained his WWE World Heavyweight title in his adopted home country. I break down the entire card and share my thoughts including the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre strap match which I thought turned out better than I expected.

I also talked about comments made over the weekend by Randy Orton where he was candid about talent being taken care of better in this new regime of WWE management.

I also discussed the post-show press conference where Cody Rhodes was asked about the Vince McMahon docuseries on Netflix and the Janel Grant lawsuit which he did a pretty good job of answering without actually answering anything.

Plus, I give an early preview of next weekend’s AEW All Out, and share my thoughts on Jon Moxley’s new character change and potential new faction.

Two new title matches official for AEW All Out

Two title matches have been made official for All Out.

The AEW World Heavyweight title match between Bryan Danielson and Jack Perry has been made official for next Saturday’s show in Chicago. Additionally, Mercedes Mone will defend the TBS Championship against Hikaru Shida.

Wednesday’s Dynamite ended with Bryan Danielson announcing that he would officially end his full-time career after losing the AEW World Championship, which he won at All In, and challenged anyone in the back to face him at All Out. Jack Perry appeared on the video screen to accept his challenge, but it was soon revealed to be a ruse as Perry jumped Danielson from behind. The show ended with Perry holding both the AEW World Championship and the TNT Championship he currently holds.

Shida became the number one contender for the TBS title after defeating Serena Deeb, Queen Aminata, and Thunder Rosa in the main event of Saturday’s Collision.

Here is the updated lineup for next weekend’s All Out:

  • AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson defends against Jack Perry
  • AEW International Champion Will Ospreay defends against PAC
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Hikaru Shida
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page in a steel cage match
  • CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale defends against Kris Statlander in a Chicago street fight
  • Daniel Garcia vs. MJF

Jack Perry challenges Bryan Danielson to AEW World title match at All Out

“The American Dragon” might not be retiring anytime soon, but the line is now growing for those looking to make that happen.

That line starts with reigning TNT Champion Jack Perry who made his intentions known at the end of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, laying out Danielson and calling his shot for the September All Out pay-per-view.

Danielson closed the show with an announcement that despite his past proclamations, he will not retire as AEW World Champion and will defend the title for as long as he can. However, he will be done as a full-time wrestler when he loses the title.

He said he is going to be a fighting champion and knows there is a young locker room with plenty of people looking to end his run and career. He said it was first come, first served and then Perry appeared on the screen to give his pitch in that during this year’s Anarchy in the Arena match, he was the one to pin Danielson to end the match.

The video was a distraction as Perry then attacked Danielson from behind in the ring, laying him out with a knee strike and standing tall with both belts as the show ended.

As of this writing, the match has yet to be made official.

Danielson won the title at last Sunday’s All In, defeating Swerve Strickland in a title vs. career match. Perry is coming off a win in a coffin match over Darby Allin at the same show. Of note, Allin also has a future World title shot by virtue of his win at this year’s Royal Rampage match.

Here’s the current and anticipated card for Chicago:

  • AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson defends against Jack Perry*
  • AEW International Champion Will Ospreay defends against PAC
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page in a steel cage match
  • CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale defends against Kris Statlander in a Chicago street fight
  • Daniel Garcia vs. MJF

*Not yet official

MJF vs. Daniel Garcia official for AEW All Out

Daniel Garcia will finally get his shot at revenge as he takes on former AEW World Champion MJF at next month’s All Out from Chicago.

The match came together during Wednesday’s Dynamite as MJF was in the ring cutting a promo, both denouncing his allegiance to America and threatening to get revenge against Will Ospreay for defeating him for the International title at All In.

On that night, Garcia made a surprise return to help cost MJF the title by preventing the then-champion from using brass knuckles on Ospreay.

Back to Wednesday, MJF proceeded to run down Garcia before he ran in and attacked MJF, leading to a brawl. Garcia teased giving him the same second rope piledriver that MJF put him out of action with on the July 3rd Dynamite. On that night, Garcia lost to Ospreay in partial thanks to MJF who then dealt out a bloody attack to Garcia afterward.

After officials separated the two, Garcia took to the mic to challenge MJF for All Out which MJF agreed to from the entrance ramp.

The two have wrestled against each other in a singles match only once when MJF was World Champion as the champion defeated the challenger on a November 2023 Dynamite.

Here’s the current card for Chicago:

  • AEW International Champion Will Ospreay defends against PAC
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page in a steel cage match
  • CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale defends against Kris Statlander in a Chicago street fight
  • Daniel Garcia vs. MJF

Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Page steel cage match set for AEW All Out

The next chapter in the feud between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page will be written at AEW All Out in a steel cage match.

Following Page’s show-opening win over Tomohiro Ishii on Wednesday’s Dynamite, Strickland and Prince Nana came out to confront Page and the two had a verbal exchange reliving their past battles. Page accused Strickland of never being able to beat him on his own in the past and Strickland turned the tables by offering up a challenge for the cage.

Strickland said he recently went by the house Page and his family live in, and saw Page walking outside with his pregnant wife and child as they were preparing to welcome their second child. He then realized that was all Page was meant to be: a family man.

Strickland then continued to run down Page’s manhood until Page left in a huff as Strickland questioned what kind of man he would be inside the cage.

The two first did battle at last October’s WrestleDream that Strickland won, followed by their Texas Death Match at November’s Full Gear that Strickland also won. The two then went to a 30-minute draw on a February Dynamite that led to them both being included in a three-way with then-World Champion Samoa Joe at March’s Revolution that saw the champion retain.

In another development for the Saturday, September 7th pay-per-view from Chicago, the title match between CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale and no. 1 contender Kris Statlander will be a Chicago street fight.

Nightingale won the right to pick a stipulation for the match by way of she and Tomohiro Ishii’s win over Statlander and Stokely Hathway on the All In pre-show.

Statlander earned the title shot via a recent win over Nightingale in a title eliminator bout.

MJF

Stipulation match for CMLL Women’s title announced for AEW All Out

A new stipulation match has been added to All Out.

During Collision, Kris Statlander announced that her match against CMLL Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale would take place at All Out in Chicago on September 7. Additionally, the stipulation of the match will be determined at All In’s Zero Hour pre-show on August 25. The winner between Statlander & Stokely Hathaway and Nightingale & Tomohiro Ishii will be allowed to pick the stipulation for the title match.

Statlander has continued to be a thorn on Nightingale’s side ever since Statlander turned on her at Double or Nothing back in May. Nightingale defeated Statlander in an Owen Hart Foundation tournament semifinal, but Statlander ended up with the win when the two met again on the July 31 edition of Dynamite in a title eliminator match, earning a shot at the CMLL Women’s title.

Here is the updated card for All Out in Hoffman Estates, Illinois:

  • AEW International title: MJF or Will Ospreay defend against PAC
  • CMLL Women’s title: Willow Nightingale defends against Kris Statlander in a stipulation yet to be determined

PAC to challenge MJF vs. Will Ospreay winner for American title at AEW All Out

Image: AEW

Robbed of his “Wembley moment,” PAC will cash in on his AEW International/American title shot at September’s All Out, taking on the winner of the MJF vs. Will Ospreay rematch at this month’s All In.

PAC appeared on Dynamite in a backstage promo to air his displeasure about how Ospreay went about getting his rematch, robbing PAC of the moment of appearing in his home country at London, England’s Wembley Stadium.

PAC earned the shot on the July 10th Dynamite by winning a four-way over Claudio Castagnoli, Tomohiro Ishii and Kyle Fletcher but the date was never announced as when he could have it.

PAC has never faced MJF while he went one-on-one with Ospreay in February 2019 for RevPro.

PAC won the inaugural All-Atlantic title in June 2022, later changed to the International title in March 2023 and then changed to the American title after MJF won it at last month’s 250th Dynamite. PAC initially held the title for 108 days and defended it seven times, losing it to Orange Cassidy on an October edition of Dynamite.

It’s the first match officially announced for the Saturday, September 7th pay-per-view from Chicago, Illinois.
