Men’s Champions Challenge Match: Mike Santana, Mustafa Ali, Brian Myers, Cedric Alexander & Bear Bronson vs. Leon Slater, Eric Young, KC Navarro, Elijah & Frankie Kazarian

A Champion’s Challenge match seems like a pretty good way to do that!

For those not in the know, the Champions Challenge is a match that pits all current TNA Champions against an “All-Star” team of challengers. So in this case, it’s 10-Man tag match. If an “All-Star” pins a champion, they get a shot at that title. Speaking of titles, here’s who holds the gold in TNA:

TNA World Champion: Mike Santana
TNA International Champion: Mustafa Ali
TNA World Tag Team Champions: The System (Bear Bronson & Brian Myers)
TNA X-Division Champion: Cedric Alexander (also of The System)

The challengers didn’t get a televised entrance, but the champions did and it ate up about 10 minutes of TV time. When things got underway, Elijah faced off against Myers. He went old school and walked the ropes to take Meyers down to the mat. That is literally everything that happened in the ring before the first commercial break.

When we came back, Meyers had been replaced by Santana and they took turns missing moves on each other, leading to a respectful staredown.

Eric Young decided he had had enough and he stepped into the ring and punched out Santana. Kazarian tagged in off of Elijah and ate a dropkick from Santana. Kazarian tagged in Elijah and we were back to square one until Ali grabbed a bind tag and the speed picked up.

Elijah caught Ali with a pop up powerbomb, but Alexander broke up the cover. That started a brawl as everyone entered the ring and started throwing hands. Elijah hit a chokeslame on Ali on the ring apron (the challengingest part of the ring!) and Slater hit the champions field with a flipping dive over the ring post.

Back from a commercial break, things had settled down (I guess they didn’t want to bore us with the results of the brawl) and Bronson and Elijah were throwing hands. Alexander and Meyers joined him for a triple team, but Elias evaded it.

Ali and Santana both reached for tags, so Santana knocked Ali off the apron and took it for himself. HJe took on Kazarian and Young (not sure which, if either, was legal) and threw them to the outside so he could dive on Young.

Santana went for a double stomp on Kazarian, but Kazarian had moved. Ali grabbed a blind tag and he and Santana got in each other’s faces. Navarro took them both down with a double dropkick from the ring post and then 619’ed Ali, followed by a DDT. Ali kicked out at two though.

Ali tagged in Bronson who beat up on Navarro for a few minutes before lifting him up in a military press and dropping him in the middle of the ring. Ali tagged himself in and Narvarro got one to Slater who nailed Ali with a spin kick.

Things started breaking down again with people going in and out of the ring and dumping opponents to the outside. Ali and Slater stayed in the ring and Slater hit a swanton 450, but Alicia Edwards put Ali’s leg on the ropes to break the pin attempt.

Ali grabbed the International Title belt, but the ref grabbit away from him. Navarro hit a Blessing in Disguise and pinned Ali to win the match and gain an International Title shot.

Match Result: KC Navarro pinned Mustafa Ali to win the match and an International Title shot

-Backstage, Ariana Grace and Stacks were interviewed. Grace said she was a more worthy Knockouts Champion than Lei Ying Lee. Stacks said he was going to send Santino and his smelly sock puppet to the retirement home.

-Back from commercial we heard some words from the Righteous. They challenged the Broken Hardys to come to the “Wicked Garden,” whatever that is. The commentary team didn’t seem to know, so we all collectively decided to move on to:

Tessa Blanchard vs Harley Hudson

Hudson tried to steal one with a quick rollup, but Blanchard countered and charged her. Hudson stopped her with a shoulder block and then a big boot. Hudson slipped out of the ring and pulled Blanchard under the ropes to drop a leg on her.

Blanchard then dropkicked Hudson to the outside and then drove ler left knee into the floor. Tossing Hudson back into the ring, Blanchard went back to working the knee, twisting it around the ropes and stomping it.

Blanchard tied up Hudson in an inverted nelson hold and then went back to pounding on her knee. Blanchard put on a modified figure four and twisted the knee even more. Hudson punched her way free and Blanchard lost her cool and they two started throwing hands.

Hudson hit a fallaway slam, but the damage to her knee was apparent. She hit a hip attack in the corner, but Blanchard kicked out of the cover with a scream. Hudson set her up on the top turnbuckle, but Blanchard powered back.

Blanchard hit double knees out of the corner, but Hudson wouldn’t stay down. Hudson countered a suplex into a neckbreaker and set up Blanchard in the corner. Blanchard came out of it though and hit a Buzzsaw DDT to get the pin.

Match Result: Tessa Blanchard defeated Harley Hudson

-Back from break, the Somallier of the Elegance Brand told Knockouts Champion Lei Ying Lee that she better not screw up their match tonight.

Direct of Authority Santino Marella vs Stacks w/ Ariana Grace

They locked up off the bell with Santino sending Stacks to the outside to collect himself. Back in the ring Stacks went for a kick but Santino grabbed his foot and worked him over into a pin attempt.

Santino went to the technical, forcing Stacks to used a rope break to get out of an arm hold. Stacks threw Santino into the corner, but fell victim to an arm drag off the rebound. Santino threw some jabs and then went for a splash, but Stacks got his knees up.

Santino asked for a time out to recover, but no dice as Stacks whipped him into the ropes. Stacks hit some punches and a high knee to the gut for a two count. Stacks then went for a splash, but this time Santino got the knees up.

Santino fired up and threw Stacks to the corner for a driving shoulder. He pulled out the cobra, but Grace jumped up and grabbed it from him. That let Stacks get a quick pin and win the match.

Match Result: Stacks defeated Santino Marella

After the match, Grace yelled at her father and Stacks attacked him. That brought out Indi Hartwell, who ran them off then grabbed a mic and challenged them to a mixed tag match, right here, right now. That summoned Daria Rae who reminded everyone that they don’t make matches, she does. She said that the match would happen next week because she’d love to see Stacks beat up Santino again.

-Backstage AJ Francis was shown demanding paperwork from someone. That someone said they’d have it tomorrow and AJ said Money, Money, Money and that was it.

Fabian Aichner vs Eddie Edwards w/ Alicia Edwards

Edwards arrived representing The System and based on Aichner’s intro, I assume he’s a Coldplay fan.

As the bell rang and I realized the Aichner wasn’t actually Lars Sullivan, Edwards sent him to the corner. Aichner gabbed a headlock and then trew a crossbody off the ropes. He send Edwards to the outside and then missed with a baseball slide.

Edwards went for a kick, but Aichner caught it and responded with a lariat. Getting back into the ring, Edwards shot Aichner into the ropes and then dropped a knee on his chest. Edwards chopped him in the corner and then whipped him off the turnbuckle.

Aichner fought back with a big boot into a spinning backbreaker. He suplexed Edwards and went for a cover, but Edwards kicked out. Aichner went for a powerbomb, but Edwards countered and drove him into the corner.

Edwards hit a backpack stunner, but Aichner kicked out at two. Alicia got involved, choking Aichner on the bottom rope. Edwards sent him to the outside and Alicia waved a kendo stick at him. The Ref saw it though and ejected her from ringside.

Edwards tossed Aichner back into the ring and went up top. Aichner scrambled up and grabbed him in a butterfly superplex. Edwards kicked out of the cover at two though.

The System (Meyers, Bronson and Alexander) came down to the ring to take Ariana’s place and Aichner dove over the ropes to take them out. He got back in and hit a DDT and then put Edwards in a choke hold. The rest of The System dove in to make the save and the match was ended in a DQ.

Match Result: Fabian Aichner defeated Eddie Edwards via DQ

After the match, Alexander hit a Lumbar Check on Aichner. The System then posed over a beaten Aichner.

Knockouts Champions Challenge Match: Lei Ying Lee & The Elegance Brand (Heather By Elegance & M By Elegance) vs Mara Sade, Xia Brookside and Elayna Black

So Lee is the current Knockouts Champion and the Elegance Brand hold the Knockouts Tag Titles. That’s it for the Women’s titles in TNA, so this would be essentially a trios match. The same rule as the Men’s match stands though in that if an “All Star” pins a champion, they earn a shot at that title. I’d like to point out that at not point before show time did TNA let us know who the All Star side of this match was.

Any way, Lee and Brookside started things off, but Brookside immediately tagged out and Black took her place. Black then decided she wanted nothing to do with Lee and Sade tagged in. She and Lee locked up with Sade going for a rollup, but Lee having none of it.

M tagged in just in time to take a sling blade from Sade. She bounced back and tagged in Heather who sent Sade into Black, causing a tag. Black and Heather fought with Black dropkicking Heather in the face. She drop toed Heather into the ropes and Brookside tagged in to deliver some running knees.

Brookside stomped a very elegant mudhole in Heather in the corner, but Heather countered with a dropkick and tagged in M who went coast to coast with a dropkick of her own. She went for a cover, but it was broken up by Sade and everyone started brawling.

Back from a break everything had gone back to normal and Sade and Heather were fighting in the ring. Sade dropped some wicked knees but Heather kicked out, Sade scoop slammed her then went up top, but M pulled her off the turnbuckle and Heather hit a lungblower.

M tagged in officially and they double teamed Sade. M it a senton, but Sade kicked out of the cover. Sade started a comeback, but M and Heather worked as a unit to keep her on her heels. The Elegance Brand refused to let Lee tag in and instead switched in and out to beat up on Sade.

Sade got a crossbody in, and Lee started jumping up and down for a tag. Brookside got a tag and Lee finally got into the match to face her. Black tried to help, but Lee kicked her in the head and started punching Brookside in the corner.

Lee hit an exploder suplex, but Brookside kicked out. Lee put her in the Warriors Way and connected, but Black broke up the pin. The Elegance Brand took her out and Sade then took them out. Lee and Sade were left and ran into eachother with a double clothesline.

Mr Elegance tried to help, but Kieth Jardine showed up and took him down with an ankle lock. In the ring, Lee fell victim to the damn nuumbers game and Brookside was able to pin her in the middle of the ring.

Match Result: Xia Brookside pinned Lei Ying Lee to win the match and earn a Knockouts Title shot.

**************

– Our show opened with a recap of Athena after her victory against Mina Shirakawa in the women’s Owen Hart Tournament at Double or Nothing this past Sunday.

– After the opening, we got right into the action as the incomparable Ian Riccaboni introduced himself and Caprice Coleman while Adam Priest made his entrance.

AEW National Championship: Mark Davis (c) vs. Adam Priest

“Dunkzilla” competed in Stadium Stampede at Double or Nothing on Sunday, as well as an Owen Hart Foundation men’s tournament match last night on Dynamite.

The bell rang as Priest attempted to chop at Davis’s chest, but it had very little effect. Priest then opted to use some of his speed to try and take down Davis with a shoulder tackle or two. But, that had little effect as Davis took down Priest with a scoop slam and a running senton, followed by the vicious chop to the chest.

Priest escaped the corner, but Davis threw him on the opposite corner with enough force to send him barreling over the corner and out of the ring. At ringside, Davis stalked Priest and tried to hoist him up for a powerbomb, but his foe used the apron to escape it. Priest brought Davis back into the ring, but immediately found himself literally chopped down. The cover, but Priest kicked out at two. Priest headbutted Davis’ chest, but that did him little good as he got felled by another scoop slam from the AEW National Champion. Davis threw Priest into the corner and battered him with repeated forearms, followed by a running clothesline that sent Priest from the apron and into the guard rails. Priest grabbed Davis’ arm outside the ring and sent him shoulder first into the ringpost. He then put Davis’ hands into the joints that held the turnbuckles and kicked at them to cause maximum pain.

Priest continued to target the hand of Priest with a couple of stomps before he took a bite out of that hand out of the referee’s view. Priest wrenched at Davis’s hand, but the big man broke the hold momentarily. An arm wringer from Priest took Davis down as the challenger transitioned into an arm-wringer submission. Davis created some separation with a hard kick to the ribs of Priest as he then hoisted him up to the top turnbuckle. Davis’ superplex attempt was stopped as Priest went after the hurt right hand, which led to a leaping DDT. Priest reversed a Samoan Drop into a crossarmbreaker, which left the National Champion in no man’s land. Davis had to use his sheer strength to break up the subsequent triangle choke with a one-armed powerbomb.

As Priest recovered, he was taken down with a weak-arm lariat, as Davis trapped him in a sleeper. Priest turned that into a pinfall attempt, but Davis managed to kick out. Priest missed an enzuigiri kick, as Davis nailed one of his own. Davis had a head of speed, but Priest clipped him, which led to an STF locked in. The straitjacket hold was applied, but Davis just managed to crawl to the ropes to break the hold. Davis crawled to the apron and got himself back to his feet, as he took down Priest with a weak-arm lariat. This led to a standing avalanche suplex from Davis, followed by the vicious right hand. Davis then wrapped this defense up with the gutwrench piledriver and the three.

Mark Davis def. Adam Priest via pinfall to retain the AEW National Championship

This was a solid opener. Both men continue to impress me the more I see them in action and this was right up my alley as a result. Davis’ run as National Champion has been terrific so far, and Priest gets better and better with every match.

Anthony Ogogo (w/ Shane Taylor Promotions) vs. Darian Bengston

The current ACTION Wrestling champion looked to have the upper hand early, but Ogogo got him with a scoop slam. Bengston escaped a second scoop slam attempt and got the take down. After a llittle showboating, Bengston used his speed to blast Ogogo in the face before he slid out of the ring and taunt the Infantry at ringside. As Bengston got back in the ring, Ogogo took him down with a big boot, as he followed that with stomps in the corner. With the referee distracted, Carlie Bravo choked Bengston while Capt. Shawn Dean taunted the crowd.

Bengston’s attempt at a hurricanrana was turned into a powerslam by Ogogo, but that wasn’t enough to pick up the win. Ogogo lifted Bengston, but his opponent deadweighted himself, which led to a running spinning kick into the corner by Bengston. Ogogo was taken down by a diving splash from Bengston for the near-fall. Bengston sized up Ogogo and sent him outside the ring, which led to an attempted dive to the outside. However, Ogogo caught him and turned it into a Northern Lights suplex. Ogogo brought Bengston back into the ring and decided to take flight in a rare display. Ogogo whiffed on the splash, as Bengston almost got the win with the crucifix pin. Bengston tried for another crucifix, but the British strongman turned that into a spinning slam. Somehow, Bengston kicked out at two.

Bengston showed some fight as he got Ogogo a couple of kicks, but the hard right put him out of commission as the referee called for the stoppage.

Anthony Ogogo def. Darian Bengston via referee stoppage

I thought this was a good match and I liked that Darian Bengston got a chance to get his stuff in and it wasn’t a total Ogogo domination match. I think ROH is at its best when the “enhancement” talent get their chance to shine.

**************

– We got remarks from Mance Warner, who called out Lee Moriarty for a shot at the ROH Pure Championship. We learned that we’ll see the two in a Proving Ground match on next week’s show. As well, Isla Dawn will take on ROH Women’s Pure Champion Deonna Purrazo in a Proving Ground match.

Pure Rules Match: Rachael Ellering vs. Viva Van

As was tradition with Pure Rules, this match got underway with Ellering and Van engaging in a chain wrestling battle. Ellering had Van caught in an arm submission, but Van reversed it into a Fujiwara armbar until Ellering escaped. Van was taken down with a shoulder block as she again focused on Van’s arm with a submission. The wristlock from Ellering kept Van grounded until she did her unique dodge maneuver. Van looked to have the momentum with a low spinning wheel kick, but Ellering kicked out at two. In the corner, “The Northstar” chopped away at Van, as she followed that with shoulder attacks. Gutwrench suplex by Ellering, led to the running senton and the near-fall. Ellering applied a dragon sleeper, which forced Van to exhaust one of her three rope breaks. This allowed Van to apply a single leg hammerlock grab. This led to Ellering to burn a rope break to break the hold.

Van and Ellering traded strikes until the latter drove her foe down with a powerful lariat as the match reached the six-minute mark. In the corner, Van hit Ellering with a double-foot kick but she couldn’t hit an electric chair move. Ellering hit Van with a closed fist out of the referee’s view, which led to the Collapse suplex, but only a near-fall there. Van hit Ellering with a backfist as she hoisted her up for the Japanese Ocean Cyclone Suplex and the bridging pin for the victory at 7:16.

Viva Van def. Rachael Ellering via pinfall

I enjoyed this match, and the Pure Rules really worked well in showcasing the strengths of both Van and Ellering.

**************

“Main Man” Oro vs. Angelico

Oro ran out of the gate strong with a spinning wheel kick in the corner to Angelico. Another heel kick from Oro forced Angelico to kick out at two. Angelico responded with a kick of his own as he struck Oro with jabs and kicks to the legs. Oro hit responded with another spinning kick as he targeted the back of Angelico with a knee, followed by a whip to the corner. Angelico fired back with punches to the face, but he got sent to the apron by Oro. The quick pump kicks, followed by the rope-assisted Flatliner from Oro only got a two-count.

Angelico attempted a reset with clotheslines, and the capoeira kick to the skull of Oro for a near-fall. Angelico nailed the jumping Flatliner on Oro but that only got yet another near-fall. Angelico attempted some sort of leg submission, but Oro pushed him away for the clothesline, as he connected with the pop-up bicycle kick. That couldn’t put this match away. The high-velocit kick was missed by Oro, as Angelico applied his modified ankle lock submission to get the tapout win.

Angelico def. Oro via submission

Caprice Coleman ‘Chops it Up’ with Athena

Caprice had a sit-down interview with Athena, as he started it off by congratulating the “Forever Champion” for her longevity and defenses as the ROH Women’s Champion.

Athena said she appreciated that as Caprice asked her about her reign and if it surprised her for how long it’s gone. Athena answered that there was a shift in her persona, stating that she was tired of being a team player and not moving past the point of doing her matches on the dearly-departed AEW Dark and Dark Elevation. It allowed Athena to focus on herself to become the most dominant champion in not just Ring of Honor, but also in all of wrestling.

Athena said that when people think about Ring of Honor, they don’t think about Bryan Danielson or Nigel McGuinness or Samoa Joe, people think about Athena being the Forever Champion. She said that people should be happy that they have a job because of her.

Athena stated that the achillies injury has forced her to look at her match as if it was her last. She said that when the right person comes along and proves to her that they can be champion, they will deserve the gold.

Caprice said that we’d see Part Two of his interview with Athena next week.

**************

Trish Adora (w/ The Infantry) vs. Maya World

Adora refused to shake Maya’s hands as the two got into a collar-and-elbow battle. Maya took out Adora with a kick, followed by the acrobatic hurricanrana. The running hip attack into the corner by Maya, but Trish chopped her at the top rope, which sent Maya crashing out to the mat below at ringside. Adora continued the punishment by driving her knee to the back of Maya as she applied a split-legged arm submission afterwards. Adora held Maya by one arm and stomped on that hand.

Adora dropped Maya on her knees shoulder-first and applied another submission hold for a brief moent. Adora continued to target Maya’s neck and head area with strikes and kicks. The front facelock was reversed by Maya, who hit Adora with a kick to the jaw. Adora threw Maya into the corner and then hit a butterfly suplex. The cover, but Maya kicked out at two. Adora sized up her Lariat Tubman lariat, but May a did a Matrix dodge to avoid it. A pump kick by Maya was followed by the Slingblade. In the corner, Maya hit the springboard moonsault, but Adora kicked out at two.

Maya went for a charging attack, but Adora rolled out to avoid it, Another dodge outside as a big boot took out Maya. In the ring, Adora hit the brainbuster on Maya, but could not get the three. Maya absolutely blasted Adora with the rolling elbow, followed by the back elbow for the near-fall. Double stomp from Maya, but the spinning backbreaker from Adora stopped all hope. Adora hit the low German suplex, but she couldn’t hang on on the bridge.

Adora again sized up the amazingly-named Lariat Tubman, but Maya got the surprise rollup for the victory, which gave her momentum ahead of her match against Hazuki on Collision this Saturday.

Maya World def. Trish Adora via pinfall

**************

Stori Denali (w/ “Smart” Mark Sterling) vs. Brooke Havok

Stori easily brushed aside Brooke, but her much smaller foe attempted to use her agility to avoid any sort of damage. The running clotheslines from Brooke failed to take down Stori, who hit a huge clothesline of her own. The Snake Eyes from Stori was followed by a big boot. Black Hole Slam by Stori kept Brooke grounded. In the corner, Stori choked at Brooke with her boot, then following that up with strikes and punches to the face. Brooke attempted to create some separation by avoiding Stori’s running strike, followed by the shotgun dropkick. Brooke tried for a diving attack, but Stori caught her and slammed her down hard. This was followed by the giant’s staple of a chokeslam for the easy win.

Stori Denali def. Brooke Havok via pinfall

Stori Denali is alright, and I do admire the push that they’re giving her, so there’s that. Aside from that, this match wasn’t really much to write home about.

**************

Proving Ground: The Frat House (Preston Vance, Jacked Jameson, Griff Garrison) vs. The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd & Truth Magnum) & Dalton Castle

Truth Magnum & Preston Vance got this match started as the Frat House got the early advantage with quick tags and keeping Magnum away from his corner. One third of the ROH Trios Champions fought out of the Frat House corner as Turbo tagged in and hit a nice double team move with his fellow Outrunner. Turbo attempted the big body slam, but Preston raked the eyes, which allowed Jameson to tag in. He stomped at Turbo’s groin behind the referee’s back. The “Jacked” one missed with the knee strike, but the advantage was still firmly in the Frat House’s corner.

Turbo got his feet in between Jameson’s groin, which allowed him to get some separation. However, Garrison and Jameson took out Castle and Truth as Preston was in the ring taking a neckbreaker. Finally, a recovered Castle got the hot tag as he delivered suplexes for the three members of the Frat House. Castle then looked for the Bangarang, but Vance grabbed a hold of Jameson. This led to the Frat House shelling Castle with consecutive lariats, butg the Outrunners broke up the count. With five minutes remaining, Jameson was all alone as Turbo and Floyd nailed the “You Son of a Bitch” handshake, followed by the triple elbow alongside Castle for the victory.

Post-match, The Lethal Swirl ambushed Castle and the Outrunners

The Outrunners & Dalton Castle def. The Frat House via pinfall

Ian Riccaboni interviews The Lethal Swirl

Almost immediately, the voice of ROH got into the ring and admonished Jay Lethal, Lee Johnson, and Blake Christian for their actions.

Christian said that he and his partners were the most creative and most exciting team in Ring of Honor, even moreso than the current Ring of Honor World Six-Man Tag Team Champions, and they were ready to prove that against any six men right here and right now.

The Lethal Swirl (Blake Christian, Lee Johnson, Jay Lethal) vs. Il Cartello Grillo

Christian kicked Cartello as he and Johnson shelled him with double team moves in the ring. Legal man Johnson punched away at the debuting Cartello, but the suplex created some separation. Rosario Grillo tagged in and was a house of fire, but the Swirl snuffed out the comeback. KJ Impala was trapped and dropkicked out of the ring. The Lethal Swirl was on fire as they kept Grillo completely isolated with a fast and furious offesnse. Lethal applied the Figure Four, followed by a 450 Splash from Christian, as The Lethal Twist picked up the win via submission.

The Lethal Twist def. Il Cartello Grillo via submission

The six-man Proving Ground match with the World Six-Man Champions was fun, and the set-up of the feud betwen the Outrunners & Dalton Castle vs. Lethal Swirl should be fun.

ROH World Championship: Bandido (c) vs. Volador Jr.

This match was contested last week at Arena Mexico.

Volador Jr. and Bandido started off fast, but it was the ROH Champion who got the advantage early with a dive to the outside. In the ring, Volador headed up top and hit Bandido with a dropkick that sent him out. Between the ropes, the suicide dive from Volador connected, which sent Bandido into the railings. High crossbody from Bandido was followed by him taunting Volador, who responded with some clotheslines of his own. Volador stomped away at Bandido in the corner to keep him stunned. The Arena Mexico faithful let Volador hear as they jeered him loudly.

Bandido hit Volador with a pump kick, followed by the tornillio from the top rope. As Volador rolled out of the ring, Bandido soared over the top rope with a diving swanton. Volador kicked Bandido from the apron as he then took off with a hurricanrana that sent Banddio crashing right into the Roshfrans-branded guard rail. Volador looked to see if lightning would strike twice, but Bandido caught him and threw him into the railing instead.

Back in the ring, Volador intercepted a diving Bandido with a dropkick for the near-fall. Volador ran right into a flipping powerbomb for a near-fall. Bandido hoisted Volador up for a stalling suplex, but he couldn’t capitalize. The handspring by Volador was caught by Bandido, who hit the back suplex. Volador sent Bandido out of the ring as he hit the rana to the outside, which sent him down to the mat. As Bandido recovered, he whipped Volador with enough force to send him over the barricade. The ROH Champion then followed that up with a dive over the barricade as he barreled right into Volador Jr. Bandido stood up on the apron and looked for some sort of move, but Volador turned that into another rana into the floor. Volador then threw Bandido back into the ring as he headed up top.

The Frog Splash by Volador Jr. on Bandido nearly won him the ROH World Title, but the champ kicked out at 2.99999999. As Bandido recovered into the corner, he blocked Volador’s running attack and lifted him from the corner for a deadlift suplex. Inside left hook cover by Bandido, but Volador Jr. kicked out at two. Bandido recovered and looked like he was going to hit the 21-Plex, but Volador countered with a superkick, as he followed that with a Destroyer. One, two…. 2.99999999 again! Volador and Bandido traded strikes, as they then got a double down with a stereo dropkicks that hit right on the button.

‘Referee Aubrey Edwards counted both Volador and Bandido down as both men got up just as she reached nine. Bandido fired himself up and hit Volador with a kick in the corner, followed by the German Suplex. He headed to the top rope and went for the Shooting Star Press. It landed flush, but Volador Jr. kicked out at dos. Volador got himself back up, but he immediately got hit with Bandido’s X-Knee, as he then followed that up with the 21-Plex. Uno, dos…. 2.99999999!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mexican Destroyer by Volador on Bandido was still somehow not enough to win. With Bandido down on the canvas, Volador Jr. ascended to the top rope, but he probably took too much time taunting the crowd, as Bandido recovered. He lifted him up, but Volador countered and looked for a poison-rana. Bandido struggled free and lifted up Volador for an avalanche reverse fallaway slam. He then followed that up with a modified 21-Plex from the ground and that’s it, over. Bandido retains the ROH World Title in one heck of a match.

After the match, Volador Jr. showed respected to Bandido as he handed him the ROH World Title.

Bandido def. Volador Jr. to retain the ROH World Title

Tremendous, tremendous match. I really enjoyed seeing this CMLL match on this week’s ROH show. Bandido is on a generational run and he just gets better and better in every match.

ROH World Television Championship: A.R. Fox (c) vs. Dezmond Xavier

As Fox and Xavier adhered to the Code of Honor to get this match started, the two got into a chain wrestling duel. Fox pushed Xavier off with a kick and turned it into a sunset flip for an early pinfall attempt. Both men showed some great agility with the acrobatic dodges, but Xavier hit Fox with a mule kick and began trying to get the pin attempts early. Fox rolled out of the ring and took time to recover.

Fox stepped back into the ring and kicked at Xavier, but he missed with the double stomp. Xavier then hit a dive between the ropes to the outside. Xavier punched at the ribs of Fox before he put him back in the ring and hit the double knees to those ribs. The cover, but Fox kicked out at two. Xavier put Fox in a grapevine surfboard submission, which forced Fox to try and struggle towards the ropes. A stomp put an end to that. Fox remained shelled by the attack of Xavier, who kept punching him in the face. Fox tried to mount a comeback with a shot to the midsection of Xavier, but the World TV Champion found himself under siege again. A running forearm was dodged by Fox as he then hit Xavier with the enzuigiri.

Both men got back to their feet as Fox hit Xavier with the clothesline in the corner. This was followed by the roll into the two superkicks, the basement cutter and the pull-through cutter for a near-fall. Fox looked for a suplex, but Xavier turned it into an inside cradle for a two. Donkey punch by Xavier, followed by the crescent kick and the around the world DDT. Somersault kick by Xavier left Fox out cold, but long enough for the three-second tan. Xavier walked to the corner and targeted Fox for the Meteora, but Fox dodged it at the last second. From the apron, Fox blasted Xavier with the kick, as he followed that up with two DDTs and the suplex for a near-fall.

Fox headed to the top and missed with the 450 Splash, as Xavier took him down with a couple of kicks. Xavier now headed to the top, but he apparently lost his balance, which allowed Fox to capitalize with the straitjacket brainbuster, followed by the 450 Splash to retain the World TV Championship.

Xavier and Fox showed respect for one another as we wrapped this week’s edition of ROH on HonorClub.

AR Fox def. Deszmond Xavier via pinfall to retain the ROH World Television Championship

**************

A great main event between Fox and Xavier to put a nice bow on a great week of action over on Ring of Honor. I think ROH’s biggest strength is when the “marquee” matches are mixed in with those involving enhancement talent, especially if they get their chance to shine and it’s not a complete squash. It’s a nice balance that I think ROH manages to nail quite well.

The Bandido/Volador Jr. match was a nice treat to see and definitely served as a great way to entice viewers to check out CMLL’s weekly Friday show, especially with the significant AEW/ROH crossover going on at times.

One aspect of these weekly shows that in my opinion doesn’t get enough praise is the commentary duo of Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman. They are a terrific duo and are always on top of the action and it certainly helps viewers follow along as they call the moves when they happen. Great stuff from these two.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone & Taz as we go over Will Ospreay & Swerve Strickland advancing in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament at Double or Nothing and tonight we’ll see the other two Quarterfinal matches.

Renee Paquette caught up with Ospreay after his win on Sunday saying he’s over the move about his win before going to the doctor when he runs into Kenny Omega already there with an icepack on his neck. Omega wants to address the elephant in the room, Death Riders, who he’s no stranger to. His worry is Ospreay can’t trust them, as they do what they say they’ll do and they’ve hurt both Omega & Ospreay in the past. Omega questions why Ospreay didn’t ask him to help instead and Ospreay said because Omega wasn’t there. Omega said he’s got his own way of going about things and way to bounce back like he used to both in and out of the ring. Omega gets the appeal of the Death Riders, they get the job done, he’s not saying not to trust them, but just be careful, as a friend. Jon Moxley walks in saying that’s good advice, as they all have their skeletons, don’t we? Moxley hands Ospreay an icepack and tells him the truck is outside. Omega said he’ll always be there for Ospreay, who told Omega not to give up on that World Title, Omega said you too. This was a very good opening segment.

Kevin Knight Explains His Actions at Double or Nothing

We see footage of Knight turning on Darby Allin after the conclusion to the main event on Sunday. He’s drowned out with “F*ck You Kevin” and “Shut the F*ck Up” chants as Knight said he told Allin not to let him & the fans down, which is exactly what he did, he blew it. Knight said just like the Sixers did against the Knicks, they let us down. Knight decided he’s not trusting the process any longer, instead, taking matters into his own hands, asking who the last person MJF was humbled by, The Jet, as it should’ve been him in the main event. Instead, Knight was watching from the sidelines and asks the crowd if he looks like a bench player? They chant yes, as Knight said he’s here to take over this whole damn company. Knight put trust into Allin, who told him never to waste any time, which is exactly what he did, leaving Allin in a pool of his own blood.

A sharp dressed Speedball Mike Bailey storms out saying he knows how vicious Knight is, it’s his best and worst quality, which is what makes them such a great team. Bailey said Knight gets impatient, gets ahead of himself and makes mistakes, which is what he did to Allin. Bailey said it’s not too late, if he apologizes, they can still make things right. Bailey offered a handshake, but Knight brushed by him with a shoulder, turned and popped Bailey with a microphone shot. Knight faked leaving before coming back and planting Bailey with a Rock Bottom. Taz was thrilled by Knight’s actions to kick off the program.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with The Demand and asks if Jericho has momentum going into tonight’s match following getting a pin at Double or Nothing? Ricochet said Jericho got lucky and Kaun said it’s because they attacked him 7 on 1. Ricochet said he’s got 2 wins over Jericho and everyone will find out what Jericho already knows, he’s Ricochet and he’s out of this world.

Jericho vs. Ricochet – Everyone Banned from Ringside

(I thought this was a very good match, as these two have worked very well together since Jericho returned a few months ago. I enjoyed how it was no interference, as it was a good end to this story for the time being and Jericho is already off to the races with his next program. I guess Jericho only works exclusively with bald wrestlers now, as this feud with Ciampa should be quite fun and new.)

Excalibur said Jericho had a pretty sizeable welt on his leg from Stadium Stampede and his dive onto a table that didn’t break. Ricochet quickly hits a series of dropkicks and slingshot dive outside, as he follows with a springboard lariat back inside and running Shooting Star for two. Ricochet went for another springboard, but Jericho met him with a right hand and hit a dive off the top to the floor of his own. Taking too long clearing the announce table, Ricochet front suplexed Jericho onto the table, both climbed atop, where Jericho shot a double leg into the Walls of Jericho. Ricochet fought back on the apron, sweeping out the legs sending Jericho crashing down, as he slamming him into the steps to stay in control.

Both fought back up to the apron, where Jericho escaped a fireman’s carry and spiked Ricochet with a Death Valley Driver, causing both to crumble on the floor. Back inside, they slug it out with Yay/Bald dueling chants, as Jericho ramps up the shoulder tackles and double sledge from the top. Running bulldog set the stage for Jericho to try a Lionsault, slipped briefly on the ropes, improved great a counter with a back elbow and brainbuster for two. Ricochet pulled Jericho by the hair over the top, caught him with a springboard dropkick and Tope Suicida to follow. Corkscrew plancha connects, as Ricochet connects with a brainbuster on the floor and orders referee Aubrey to put the count on Jericho, who beat the count, but rolled in position for a Phoenix Splash and close two.

Ricochet whiffed on a Spirt Gun, Jericho swept out the legs again into the Walls of Jericho. The bad knee gave out, as Jericho missed a Judas Effect, Ricochet leaned against Aubrey, who Jericho nearly clocked, allowing Ricochet to get a low blow and Rico-sault for a near fall. Placing Jericho in position, Ricochet went up top, crashed and burned on a 630, as Jericho popped up into a Code Breaker for two. Judas Effect absolutely waffled Ricochet, as Jericho opted for a Lionsault to get the win.

Post-match, Tommaso Ciampa blindsided Jericho, choking him out with his t-shirt before wearing Jericho out with punches. Lowering the knee pad, Ciampa decked Jericho with a charging knee and stood tall by mocking a Jericho pose.

Match Result: Jericho defeated Ricochet

-Andrade El Idolo is backstage and said now that the stupid Stadium Stampede is over, he can focus on winning the World Title and beating MJF. Does MJF think he’s better than Andrade? How you know?

**********

Rush vs. Brian Cage vs. Lio Rush vs. AEW Trios Champion Orange Cassidy in a Superstation Showcase 4-Way

(Chaotic party match, as there were some spots that were clunky, but all in all, the fans were into this and especially Lio Rush’s gimmick. Hopefully they have something planned for him, as he has something here with this Blackheart character. I can only assume Rush is still looking for an AEW World Title shot, as he called his shot last week, but we never heard if he intends on challenging MJF or what exactly the winner gained from this. We get the return of Jake Doyle in all this chaos and I hope he’s not lost in the Callis Family crew and he’s showcased like prior to his injury.)

Cassidy’s new shirt is phenomenal, if you haven’t seen it, is a sideways face on his chest and you can have your sunglasses rest perfectly as if Cassidy is wearing them. During Rush’s entrance, Lio, who is already leaking black liquid from the mouth, told the camera that they’re twins, which was hilarious. Cassidy & Lio were dispatched early and Rush & Cage slugged it out. Botched head scissors still took Rush over enough, as both no sold lariats, popped up, as Rush hit a snap German, but Cage responded with a pop-up DVD for two. Cassidy & Lio broke things up, as Cassidy looked genuinely scared of Lio as he ramped up his little kicks. Lio did his misdirect, tried a sunset flip, but Cassidy went to the pockets, rolled through, hit his dropkick and kip up to stand tall. Lio avoided a dive with a handstand kick, but ran into Cage’s clutches. Lio got a hurricanrana, another handstand kick before galloping around the ring, trying a Tope, which Cage caught, so Cassidy ran in with a Tope to take both out. Rush teased a dive and hit the LFI pose as things settled down.

Rush tried a superplex inside, but Lio bit the leg and hit a twisting enzugiri. Cassidy kept getting crotched in the corner by everyone in the match, as Cage turned Lio inside out with a lariat before Cassidy was able to fight the big man off and hit a falling splash for two. Cage proved he’s a machine with a suplex from the outside in, but Rush flew in with a dropkick. Cage planted Rush with a Jackhammer for two, as Lio returned with a striking combo, but Cage spiked him with a Falcon Arrow, as Cage did the deal for a near fall. Cassidy dove off the top and countered a suplex into a Stundog followed by a spinning DDT for two. Diving Tornado DDT to the floor by Cassidy on Cage, as we see Rocky Romero & Lance Archer appear ringside. Archer blocks an Orange Punch, as Romero gets booted and Archer ate an Orange Punch. Jake Doyle returned and blindsided Cassidy, as Roderick Strong rushed ringside to brawl with Doyle backstage, as Archer carried Cassidy out with them.

It’s now a singles match, Rush & Lio had a face-off, as Lio caught him with a bounce back Stunner and misdirect Spear for two. Lio leapt off the top, but Rush caught him with a right hand. Quickly outside, Rush smashed Lio into multiple barricades before choking Lio out with a cable chord ringside. Since it’s a 4-way, there’s no DQ, as back inside, Rush stomped away in the corner before delivering Bulls Horns for the victory.

Match Result: Rush defeated Brian Cage, Lio Rush & Orange Cassidy when Rush pinned Lio

-Renee Paquette is backstage awaiting word from MJF, who walks in dragging the AEW World Title, dropping it on the floor, as we see he’s carrying his Triple B. Kevin Knight walks in and MJF thanks him for what he did after the main event, saying he knows Knight wanted to show off for him and said he appreciates that. Knight said it wasn’t for MJF, it’s because Darby Allin blew his shot. MJF said that’s fine, he’ll see Knight around. MJF left and Kyle Fletcher walks in eyeing the TNT Title. Don Callis said so much young athleticism, is the territory safe? Callis said if Knight ever wants to get serious about being Jet 2 Belts, you know where to find them.

-Video package for Mark Briscoe is shown

**********

-Renee Paquette is backstage with The Brawling Birds, as Jamie Hayter said next time, she will take the title from Thekla, who she at least got to take her head off at the PPV. Alex Windsor said it’s unfortunate about Willow Nightingale’s injury and when she returns, they can throw down. Paquette asks about facing the Wild Card and unknown, as Windsor said she fought all over the world and will prove she deserves to be part of the conversation of being one of the best in the world. She brings up both chasing their Wembley dreams along with her Billy, as Hayter said one way or another, The Birds will come out on top. We learn that Windsor will face the Wild Card next week on Dynamite.

MJF World Title Celebration is Interrupted

Balloons are in the ring, as Justin Roberts introduces the 3-time AEW World Champion, as MJF is carried out on a throne. MJF said Darby Allin is probably hanging his head in shame, as yet again, he defeated him with a move as basic as a headlock takeover. More importantly, pro wrestling has been around since the 1800’s and only 8 men in major promotions have been World Champion by 30 years of age. They’ll be writing about MJF in the history books and until the sun explodes. MJF hopes these schmucks realize how lucky they are to witness greatness in real time. It’s the greatest era imaginable because it’s all about MJF, as he’s a three-time, three-time, three-time champion of the world. #1, ain’t nobody close, a generational talent, as the fans need to do the right thing and bow before the greatest of all time. A massive banner with 3x World Champion falls down briefly before Mark Briscoe interrupts the celebration, as he tore down the banner.

Briscoe said MJF doesn’t fit in Philly, it’s like how a penguin is wandering through a desert and not one of those exotic penguins. They’re in Philly, where some of the toughest human beings live and MJF sticks out like a sore thumb, tough MJF is not. Briscoe said MJF is so self-absorbed and actually believe he’s better than everyone, so let him remind MJF that it wasn’t long ago that Briscoe pinned him. Therefore, Briscoe wants a World Title shot and asks if MJF will continue to be a soft little b*tch or will he Man Up? MJF said no because unlike everyone in this company, he understands AEW is a business and optically speaking, it’s bad that an emo freak like Darby Allin even sniffed the World Title, you think Mark Briscoe can champion? If Briscoe challenged for the title, it’d probably put the company out of business and said he’s nowhere near the level of the Devil.

MJF left up the aisle, but Rush walks out behind him (well that answers my question from the last match). Rush said MJF says he’s a fighting champion, but it’s funny, Briscoe is a chicken farmer, while MJF is a chicken sh*t. Rush said he’s almost beaten MJF before and talked about his challenge made for the title and if you mess with the bull, you get the horns. MJF asks if Rush thinks he’s cool that he’s bilingual, he’s not the only guy who can speak different languages, so listen up, senior. If anyone has earned a title shot, it’s Rush, as he’s got a good look, cute catchphrase, more marketable than the piece of sh*t Briscoe and asks if Rush wants a title shot tonight? Rush agrees, but MJF says psych, next week, for the World Title, the Bull is about to lock horns with The Devil.

-Jungle Jack Perry is on the Jurassic Express bus saying he’s had his battles with Mark Davis, as the stakes tonight are higher than they ever been. This might just be the beginning of Jack Perry’s World Title Express Tour and if you don’t like it, F*ck You! Luchasaurus pulls over and Perry was reluctant, but obliges and we get a Rocky montage of eating raw eggs, running up the steps and in the streets with Perry doing the Rocky pose.

Brody King vs. Claudio Castagnoli in a Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Quarterfinal

(If you love haymakers, have I got the match for you, as this was 99.9% clubbing strikes and gave this a completely different feel. King now moves on to face a familiar foe in Swerve Strickland in the Semi-Finals. I hope we get at least a promo or something from Castagnoli later about how the Death Riders are priming Will Ospreay for this tournament, while he just lost in the opening round. It feels that should at least be mentioned in a promo, no?)

Renee Paquette was ringside pre-match and brought up both men splitting wins in the 2023-2024 Continental Classic. Castagnoli had a hit and run strategy to start until King started firing loud chops. Castagnoli answers with uppercuts of his own, as both trade lariats until Castagnoli spills outside to regroup. King joins him, as they exchange a prolonged strike exchange, nearly getting counted out, as they dove in just in time to ramp up the strikes some more and throughout the entire commercial. Schiavone made a Kyle Schwarber home run reference that hilariously repulsed Taz.

Both men collide like trucks with lariats and fall simultaneously to their knees, where overhand chops are traded before each face plant. Castagnoli is up and really kicked into gear uppercuts aplenty before King got a boot up and ramped up a Violence Party in the corner. King started barking, but turned his back and Castagnoli exploded out with another uppercut. King stayed strong, dropped Castagnoli in the corner and connected with a Cannonball, which Taz questions if it was the first actual move in the match and not a strike. King wanted a dive, but was uppercut before takeoff, as Castagnoli connected on a discus uppercut, flipped out of a Neutralizer, as both collided multiple times. Chop, lariat, elbow combo from King, who wanted a Gonzo Bomb, but Castagnoli slid out, tried a springboard, but ate a forearm in mid-air. King charged into a pop-up uppercut, but never went down, instead, swung for the fences to hit a King Kong Lariat for the win.

Match Result: Brody King defeated Claudio Castagnoli to advance in the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament

Cope & Cage Have Their 5-Second AEW Tag Team Title Pose Crashed

Cage was about to tell the fans to sit down and shut up when Cope cut him off, asking if he heard that ovation? Cage said what, he didn’t say he banged any of their mothers, but then again, maybe he did. Cope said the 90s were a crazy time. Cage put over FTR as being the best tag team they’ve ever shared the ring with, they brought out the best in them and are Top Guys, they just aren’t the Tippy Top. Cope said FTR agreed to an I Quit Match with the stip of possibly never teaming again, but they’d never quit, instead, they got their careers back. It’s time to live in the now with FTR in the rearview and said it’s time to do something they haven’t done in 25 years, for the benefit of those with flash photography, they’ll hit a 5-Second Pose. Cage said he’s not doing it, but said they don’t even make flash photography anymore, which Cope said that’s where he’s wrong. Cope said about 20 years ago, he went to the store and bought these just for this scenario, as he dumps a bag of disposable cameras from under the ring and hands a bunch out ringside and how to properly use them if you’re under 25. Taz swears if Cope gives him one, he’ll double leg him.

Before the pose could start, The Dogs attack from behind, as David Finlay & Clark Connors attack Cage’s injured forearm outside, smashing the shillelagh against the ring steps. Finlay placed the steps onto Cage’s hand and Connors double stomped down from the apron. Cope had been blasted with the shillelagh before and Cage got one for good measure back in the ring. Finlay lifted Cope up, as he told Connors to show him how it’s done, as he laid out Cope with a Spear. Connors orders a photographer ringside to take a photo of the downed champions with a disposable camera. Connors said The Dogs present a new 5-second Pose, Your Next AEW Tag Team Champions, as they stand over the fallen Cope & Cage.

-Prince Nana is backstage with Swerve Strickland saying that he’s taking the Owen back to Wembley and there, he will win the AEW World Title once again. Strickland applauds Brody King and said if it wasn’t for Swerve, no one would know who King was. Strickland doesn’t care about Bandido’s condition right now, but one thing he’s learned is conflict creates cash and looks forward to making a lot of it with King. Whose House?

TayJay (Tay Melo & Anna Jay) vs. Ava Everett & Allie Katch

Divine Dominion cut an inset promo pre-match saying they’ll be timing TayJay and they’ll fall victim just like everyone else. Jay immediately popped Katch with a hook kick and flying slam before tagging in Melo for locomotion corner strikes. Katch stumbles back to tag Everett, who walked right into a pump kick. Jay returns for a running low Blockbuster, Melo with a running knee, as a Gory Special/Knee Lift finishes the job in quick order.

Match Result: TayJay defeated Ava Everett & Allie Katch when Jay pinned Everett

-A furious Speedball Mike Bailey was backstage and said if Kevin Knight wants to walk down separate paths, so be it and challenges Knight to a match one on one, but we never learn of when as we go to commercial.

Luchasaurus pulls up to the arena in the Jurassic Express, as Jungle Jack Perry steps out letting out a loud woooo.

AEW National Champion Mark Davis (w/Don Callis) vs. Jungle Jack Perry in a Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Quarterfinal

(An excellent thriller this was, as I’d say this was the best of their series of matches. Perry put up one hell of a fight and had plenty of hope spots winning this, but ultimately, it made far more sense for Davis to be the one to face Ospreay in the Semi-Finals, especially considering Davis just defeated Ospreay via referee stoppage not that long ago.)

Davis is rocking an eye patch, as Excalibur said it’s from nearly losing an eye in Stadium Stampede, as we got a video package from a bunch of highlights from that match, including Perry attempting to run down Davis with his bus (and having the cops called in the process). Callis joined commentary, as Davis attacked Perry at the bell, mowing him down with a corner splash and standing senton. Perry went right at the eye, ripped the patch away and put it on himself. Perry tried a charge, but bounced right off Davis (the patch went flying in the process), as Perry sent him to the floor and hit three separate dives. The brawl kept going ringside, where Perry briefly stared down Callis, allowing Davis to chuck Perry clear over the barricade and Perry came up clutching his ankle. Taz made a Richard Simmons reference during commercial saying it’s what Perry’s pants remind him of, as Excalibur said they’ve had to explain the Superstation, flash photography and now Richard Simmons to young viewers tonight.

Davis continues to beat the piss out of Perry around ringside and back in the ring, where Davis wore him out with a series of clotheslines. Perry was launched from the apron to the barricade, as Callis said he’s a punk, but put over his toughness. Davis sat in the corner and did a Taz cross arm pose, which Taz said was gimmick infringement. Perry just broke the count and dodged a Davis senton, as he took Davis to the apron where Perry connected with a hurricanrana to the floor. Perry, quickly up top for a Moonsault outside and another back inside for two. Perry got the knees up from a senton, launched off Davis’ back for a leaping senton of his own for a near fall of his own. For some reason, Perry keeps going for a piledriver, which Davis easily escaped, but Perry low bridged and got just enough of a baseball slide cazadora bulldog. Back to the apron, Davis clobbered Perry back into the ring, pulled him right back out and spiked him with a violent suplex on the edge of the ring causing Perry to literally fly out of his shoes.

Back inside, Davis tore off Perry’s socks and stomped down onto them repeatedly. Excalibur popped Taz when he said he’s never remembered anyone wrestling barefoot winning a match in Philadelphia. Both fight up into the corner, where Perry got a guillotine before falling with an Avalanche DDT spiking Davis. Sliced Bread #2 got a near fall, as Davis rolled through a piledriver attempt into an enzugiri, tried his bounce back lariat, Perry had it scouted, as they exchange quick pin attempts. Finally, after so many attempts, Perry connects on a piledriver, but only netted two. Snare Trap applied, but Davis just managed the ropes. Perry wanted a Sacrifice Knee, but was swatted out of mid-air, as Davis turned Perry inside out with his bounce back lariat, only Perry kicked out. Perry held on for dear life to avoid the gut-wrench piledriver, as Perry slapped Davis repeatedly, only pissing him off. Perry wanted a superplex, but lost his balance due to being barefoot, as Davis powered him up into a spinning Avalanche Piledriver for the win and close the Dynamite portion of the show.

Match Result: Mark Davis defeated Jungle Jack Perry to advance in the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament

-Renee Paquette came into the ring with Davis & Callis saying next week it’ll be Davis vs. Will Ospreay in the Semi-Finals of the Owen Tournament. Callis says he hopes Ospreay was watching, as next week, Davis will put him on the shelf. He knows Ospreay better than his own mother and was never the Chosen One, neither was Konosuke Takeshita. The only Chosen One of the Callis Family was Kyle By God Fletcher.

Fletcher walks out with Rocky Romero and told Callis to give him some sugar before they hug. Now, they can talk about the elephant in the room, how could Fletcher come back from such a catastrophic injury in such record time? How can you break you leg in two places and come back in 2 months? It’s because he’s a picture-perfect performer and happy to announce he’s 100% cleared for in-ring competition. There’s one more driving factor to come back and that’s to cut the dead weight from the Don Callis Family. For a year, Fletcher tried to hold The Family together, while Takeshita tried to drive a wedge between them, always doing what’s best for him. Takeshita never cared about The Family or Fletcher, who really wanted to sit atop the wrestling world with him, ProtoShita running it all, but it’ll never happen, as Konosuke Takeshita is a selfish prick.

Right on cue, Takeshita’s music hit and out walked the new International Champion, as he held the title in the air before being joined by The Conglomeration. They all look to hit the ring, as Fletcher, Davis & Romero bail being outnumbered. Takeshita took the mic saying he got his title back and simply said he wants Fletcher.

-Will Ospreay is backstage applauding Mark Davis on his win and talked about their well-documented history dating back to the United Empire. Ospreay faced Davis last time at 50%, but now, he’s 100% and nothing is stopping him from Wembley. Death Riders walk in and say it’s go time. Jon Moxley & Marina Shafir give him fist bumps, while PAC denies him, as they leave one way and Ospreay heads to the ring via stage.

Will Ospreay & Death Riders (AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley & PAC w/Marina Shafir) vs. The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz & Myron Reed)

(Very effective trios match to get Ospreay over as a Death Rider adjacent and seemingly gaining PAC’s respect as a result. I’ve enjoyed this partnership between Ospreay & the crew, also the involvement briefly with Kenny Omega and look forward to seeing where it eventually goes, especially if/when Ospreay wins the World Title.)

Moxley & PAC attacked before the bell, but Ospreay didn’t join. Xavier & Ospreay started officially, with Ospreay absolutely flattening Xavier with a big-boot in mid-air off a leapfrog attempt. PAC was very reluctant to tag Ospreay initially, but did, as fast tags to Moxley & Wentz led to Wentz showing no fear throwing a series of chops before being mowed down with a running back elbow. Ospreay rolled through Pip, Pip, Cheerio, as he took a locomotion of corner strikes until Wentz & Reed took flight with double dives on Moxley & PAC. Ospreay was isolated, resulting in Moxley & PAC coaching him to get free, but Wentz hit a handspring pump knee, until Ospreay responded with a handspring double Pele to Wentz & Xavier. Ospreay hesitated before making the tag to PAC, who took Reed’s head off with a lariat, tilt-a-whirl back breaker to Xavier and overhead throw to Wentz. PAC hit a release German on Xavier right on his noggin and another to stack Reed on Wentz in the corner for two.

Moxley eagerly got back in, as he & PAC were joined by Ospreay for a merry go round of corner strikes until Moxley dropped Reed with a Cutter. Stereo double dives from Ospreay & PAC onto Wentz & Xavier, as Reed kicked out of a Moxley piledriver. Death Rider into a cradle by Reed, who kipped up into a Cutter of his own, but opted to pose briefly, giving Moxley a chance to hit another lariat. Double stomp to the arm off the top by Ospreay, who hit La Masitica, while Moxley & PAC trapped Xaxier & Reed with Rear Naked Choke/Brutalizer. Ospreay locked in Death Ground on Reed and got the submission, as PAC gave a head nod and fist bump to Ospreay post-match.

Match Result: Will Ospreay & Death Riders defeated The Rascalz when

-We go backstage to The Opps, where Samoa Joe admits it hasn’t been the best week for the organization, but doesn’t mean the mission changes. We stand in opposition of anyone in their way and brings up HOOK wrapping up filming his first movie, Shibata owns a hottest chain of Pachinko parlors and Bowens will get the opportunity he deserves. Hollywood calls, Joe says he’ll be stepping away for a few months and expects them all to hold it down. Joe hugs all of them before giving a nod to HOOK, who took over standing in the middle, Bowens almost looked like he was going to, but held back. I’m going to assume Joe is leaving to film Twisted Metal season 3.

-Video package for Kris Statlander vs. Hikaru Shida is shown

**********

-Lexy Nair is backstage and wants a word with TayJay, but run into Divine Dominion, as Lena Kross said that only lasted 30 seconds. Nair takes literally 2 steps and sees TayJay laid out, asking if they’re alright and tells the camera they’ll need a minute, instead of, you know, calling for help from anyone, which I thought was hilarious.

Andrade El Idolo vs. Ace Austin

Incredibly quick pace to start, with Austin nearly getting his squatting DVD, but Andrade escaped as they trade a series of standing switches before Andrade flies into the ropes and does his pose. Austin tried to use his speed to catch Andrade in the corner, but Andrade put on the brakes and sent Austin crashing outside where he followed with his Tornillo out the corner. Andrade did his weekly selfie with a female fan, who literally piggy backed Andrade over the barricade, so he picked he took the pic and placed her back in the front row. Austin was still down throughout this, until he fought back inside with a pump knee and sit-out suplex. Squatting DVD missed again, as Andrade got a boot up, but ate a corner enzugiri. Austin went to the apron and hit a twisting head scissors from the outside in and finally hit the squatting DVD for two.

In another fireman’s carry, Austin carried Andrade up the ropes, but Andrade countered into a powerbomb for a rough landing. Andrade wanted the corner double knees, no one was home, as Austin flew in with his springboard twisting kick. Austin called for The Fold, but Andrade popped him with his spinning back elbow and The DM for the win. Excalibur put over that win or lose, Austin again matches up well with high caliber talent.

Match Result: Andrade El Idolo defeated Ace Austin

**********

Prior to the main event, Excalibur talked about these Lights Out matches happening when competitors have so much animosity against one another there’s no other option, which I think is interesting, considering these two just had their falling out on Sunday.

Hikaru Shida vs. Kris Statlander in Lights Out Philadelphia Street Fight

(Action/Plunder packed main event with weapons aplenty and a pretty definitive winner, with Statlander standing tall. I assume this feud continues or maybe it doesn’t? I was terrified that we’d get an insanely unnecessary Harley Cameron heel turn to end this match, but she showed up and just cheered Statlander on for the finish. Don’t get me wrong, Cameron is great, but I think the whole crowd was caught off guard on why she was there and didn’t know how to react initially, either. I’m not sure where Statlander goes after this win, as maybe she’ll bet the Wild Card next week to face Alex Windsor? Or then again, maybe not.)

Bell sounds and both ladies trade punches in bunches until a thrust kick from Statlander took Shida outside to regroup. Jumping knee off the apron from Statlander, who grabbed a chair under the ring, but literally slid it right to Shida, who popped Statlander in the ribs. Shida wedged the chair in the corner, but took too long and Statlander slingshot her into it. Shida responded with kendo stick shots, before going outside, where apparently a fan threw her an apple (is Carlito here or something?) that she punched Statlander with 10 times. Shida drove the apple into Statlander’s mouth and hit a Buzzsaw Kick. Taking too long on the apron, Statlander powerbombed Shida off to the floor. Both ladies brawl backstage (which garnered boos from the crowd), as Shida suplexed Statlander on a guard rail before they spilled back down the aisle.

Shida went backstage and rode out on a bicycle, running over Statlander’s hand before clocking her with the bike. Thankfully Excalibur delivered the Dusty Rhodes gem “He Got a Bicycle!” line during commercial to make us WCW fans happy. Shida suplexed Statlander into the corner where the chair was set-up before applying a crossface with the kendo stick. Sandman-esque White Russian Leg Sweep using the kendo stick before she placed a chair under Statlander’s face on the apron and hit a running knee lift. More chairs tossed into the ring by Shida, who took too long going up top, as Statlander met her with a superplex onto the chairs. Spinning sit-out fisherman’s suplex got Statlander a near fall, as she dragged Shida onto the chairs, but missed a top rope Moonsault. Meteora onto the chairs from Shida connected for two of her own.

Both ladies slug it out in the middle of the ring, as Shida did the deal with a Falcon Arrow, but Statlander kipped up, shocking Shida. Chucking a fastball chair shot right to the face of Shida, as Statlander went outside to set a table to really pop the crowd, as on the opposite side, Shida was stacking up chairs, as she caught a charging Statlander with a drop toe hold onto them. Statlander battled back with a DVD onto the seated chairs before going back under the ring for fluorescent light tubes. Shida pleaded that they were friends, as Statlander foolishly just put them down and had her eyes raked in the process, allowing Shida to hit a running knee. Back inside, Kitana decked Statlander before she smashed the light tubes over Statlander’s back and hit another Falcon Arrow, but Statlander kicked out.

Shida lit up the bloodied back of Statlander with kendo stick shots, awkwardly placing a chair against Statlander’s head in the ropes, which Statlander easily got out of, smashing it into Shida’s face. Both ladies fought to the apron, where Shida tried one last kendo stick shot, but Statlander blocked, smashed the kendo stick in half, stabbing Shida into the head with it before delivering Wednesday Night Fever off the apron through the table. Back inside, Statlander was going to finish it off, when Harley Cameron ran out, handed Statlander another kendo stick, as she got in one last shot before another Wednesday Night Fever got the win. Cameron & Statlander hugged and headed up the aisle as Shida looked furious in the ring to end the show.

Match Result: Kris Statlander defeated Hikaru Shida

NJPW announces ownership change with Bushiroad transferring all shares

A huge story in professional wrestling broke overnight with ownership of NJPW changing hands.

Bushiroad, which oversaw NJPW through its 2010s revival and international expansion efforts, announced that it has transferred all of its shares in the promotion to TV Asahi and CyberAgent. NJPW now becomes a “consolidated subsidiary” of TV Asahi with support from CyberAgent.

TV Asahi is NJPW’s longtime broadcast partner and already owned 22.7 percent of the voting shares in the promotion. Bushiroad owned 70 percent of NJPW, with the transfer of their shares being broken down into 3,550,200 shares to TV Asahi and 6,950,200 shares to CyberAgent. TV Asahi and CyberAgent now own an equal number of shares at 46.3 percent.

The share transfer is valued at approximately 3.6 billion yen, or roughly $22.6 million.

CyberAgent (through its subsidiary CyberFight) already owns three of Japan’s biggest wrestling companies in Pro Wrestling NOAH, DDT Pro Wrestling, and Tokyo Joshi Pro, so it will be interesting to see how closely NJPW collaborates with them going forward. CyberAgent operates the streaming platform Abema, which broadcasts WWE content in Japan. However, WWE programming will be moving to Netflix in Japan before the end of 2026.

In statements regarding the share transfer, NJPW says this will be a good move for the company given TV Asahi’s strong broadcasting and video business base and CyberAgent’s excellent digital media operations. NJPW does not plan to make any changes to its event schedule. As for NJPW World, its future has not been directly addressed, but TV Asahi has been part-owner since the streaming service’s launch and controls the NJPW video library.

“Currently, we have no plans to make any changes to our various business operations, including the events we organize, as a result of this Share Transfer,” NJPW said. “We would like to express our gratitude to Bushiroad, which has supported our business for many years as our largest shareholder, and we look forward to working together with TV Asahi and CyberAgent to further expand our business.”

NJPW/Stardom relationship —

One potentially significant change is that Bushiroad still owns Stardom, meaning that NJPW and Stardom are no longer under the same umbrella. NJPW transferred its ownership stake in Stardom to Bushiroad back in March.

Stardom president Taro Okada — who also works for NJPW — tweeted that the two promotions will continue to work together as fellow members of the Japanese wrestling community.

Bushiroad’s NJPW ownership history —

Bushiroad, a Japanese trading card company led by wrestling fan Takaaki Kidani, acquired NJPW from Yuke’s in 2012. The following years were an important period for NJPW as the promotion continued to break out of its dark ages and find business success during the Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kazuchika Okada era. Developments in streaming technology meant that NJPW was now able to broadcast its events live worldwide, which helped build the NJPW fan base internationally and give existing fans easier access to the product.

The impacts of COVID brought another lull as the Japanese wrestling scene was hit hard economically. But the final Wrestle Kingdom of the Bushiroad era did serve as a high point, with NJPW selling out the Tokyo Dome this January for Tanahashi’s retirement match. Tanahashi currently serves as NJPW’s real-life president amid this ownership change.

“Our mission to create the best wrestling and bring joy to everyone remains unchanged,” Tanahashi said. “We sincerely appreciate your continued support and encouragement.”

WWE NXT live results: Lola Vice vs. Izzi Dame Women’s title match

Reigning WWE NXT Women’s Champion Lola Vice will put her title on the line against Izzi Dame in the headliner of tonight’s NXT on The CW.

Dame earned the shot by way of a mixed tag team match that also featured Nikko Vance and Mr. Iguana. This will be Vice’s third televised title defense after winning the title in April.

In another women’s singles match, Speed Champion Wren Sinclair faces Kelani Jordan in a non-title match while Jaida Parker goes one-on-one with the debuting Layla Diggs.

The announced card is rounded out by The Culling’s Shawn Spears and Niko Vance vs. OTM’s Bronco Nima and Lucien Price.

Our live coverage begins at 8 pm Eastern.

****************

NXT is on the air in front of a live studio audience from a sound stage at the Performance Center in Orlando. Opening the show is a women’s match.

WWE Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair (with Kendal Grey) vs. Kelani Jordan in a non-title match

Jordan blindsides Sinclair before the bell, but Sinclair counters her as the bell sounds to start the match. They grapple and exchange strikes in a scrappy fight.

Jordan takes a back drop on the floor just before the show goes into a commercial break. Jordan regains her momentum and targets a leg during the break. Back from the break, Jordan works the leg. That includes her doing a modified tarantula in the ropes.

Comeback by Sinclair as she fires up on Jordan. Sinclair is cut off, but Jordan misses her split moonsault. Moments later, Jordan applies a STF hold. As Sinclair reaches for the ropes, Jordan drags her to the middle of the mat. Jordan then applies a modified cloverleaf using her foot to bridge to apply pressure while bridging backwards. Sinclair taps out. Jordan submits the Speed champ, presumably setting up a title match. Jordan got over well with the finish.

Match result: Kelani Jordan defeated WWE Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair via submission in a non-title match.

— Lizzy Rain chats with WWE Women’s North American Tatum Paxley in a goofy backstage skit where Shiloh Hill enters wanting them sign his petition. Tristan Angels interrupts to tease and taunt Hill before leaving. Rain then declares she is going “redhead hunting” in her search for Zaria. Hill offers to help Rain, and they leave together.

— Darkstate turning on Saquon Shugars and kicking him out of the group is the focus of a video package. That precedes a talking segment with the three members of Darkstate.

Out comes Darkstate for an in-ring promo. In the graphics during their ring entrance, the caricature of Shugars has an “X” over the graphic. Darksate is in the ring to explain themselves.

Osiris Griffin says Shugars was an odd-man out, as the other three are college athletes. Shugars is merely an indie wrestler. Dion Lennox says he never fit it. Cutler James claims Shugars took himself out of the faction.

They think Shugars was trying to be the leader, but he was the weak link. Lennox says Darkstate is going to back to what they do best. Too bad the booking killed that aspect of their gimmick, but whatever.

— Kali Armstrong and Lola Vice exchange words in a skit from the trainer’s room, where Vice and Kendal Grey are checking on Wren Sinclair.

Sean Legacy vs. Dorian Van Dux in a quarterfinal match in a Speed tournament

Time limit draw as they go broadway after a Spanish Fly off the top rope. Van Dux looked like a monster at times, and he heaved Legacy hard into the ring post at one point. Legacy came back to set up the Spanish Fly in the closing moments, but to no avail. They shake hands after the match in a show of good sportsmanship. The draw eliminates both from the tournament, so the other quarterfinal match set for later tonight is now the final.

Match result: Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux wrestled to a three-minute time limit draw.

— Nattie Neidhart offers encouragement to Layla Diggs, and Nattie says she will be in Diggs’ corner tonight.

Jaida Parker vs. Layla Diggs (with Nattie Neidhart)

Diggs fought valiantly, but she ultimately drops the fall to Parker. Setting up the finish, Diggs goes for a moonsault press. No water in the pool, and Diggs takes a Hipnotic from Parker. For the finish, Parker executes a Deja Vu and pins Diggs.

Match result: Jaida Parker defeated Layla Diggs via pinfall.

— NWA Champion Tony D’Angelo is headed to the ring for a monologue, but before a video packing hyping the champ.

Challengers confront the champ

Tony D’Angelo talks about the new talent debuting on NXT, and they are coming for his title. D’Angelo mentions that next week he defends the NXT title against challenger Kam Hendrix. D’Aneglo then shifts his comments to Naraku. Tony D calls him out.

Out comes Naraku to confront D’Angelo. The champ knows Naraku speaks in riddles, but D’Angelo says he is more straightforward. D’Anfelo wants Naraku to simply ask for a title match. Naraku says he is here to keep Tony safe and protect the title. Naraku insists he and D’Angelo are destined for war over the title.

Kam Hendrix interrupts them to cut a promo on D’Angelo in which Hendrix proclaims he will win the NXT title next week. Meanwhile, Naraku sits there like a bump on a log. However, Naraku will soon step in to protect the champ.

Hendrix and D’Angelo cut promos on each other. Hendrix goes to sucker punch D’Angelo, but Naraky blocks it before peppering Hendrix and tossing him over the top rope. Naraku then turns and bows to D’Angelo before leaving the ring.

— Tavion Heights is backstage aplogizing to NXT North American Champion Myles Borne when both are jumped by Darkstate. The heel faction lays out Heigths and Borne, which would seem to set up a tag team match.

Nathan Frazier (with Axiom) vs. Romeo Moreno (with Noam Dar) in the Speed tournament final

Originally a quarterfinal match, this bout becomes the tournament final because of a time limit draw in a previous match earlier tonight. In this bout, they tease another time limit draw as Moreno scores a pinfall with a small package in the closing seconds. Good match throughout, and they shake hands in a show of sportsmanship after the match. For the finish, Frazier leaps on the top rope to cut off Moreno and execute a superplex. Frazier rolls through and goes for another suplex, but Moreno counters with the small package for the win.

Moreno won in an upset, and he earned a Speed title match against champion Lexis King. He and Birthright watched the match from a perch overlooking the ring.

Match result: Romeo Moreno defeated Nathan Frazier via pinfall in a Speed tournament final.

— NXT General Manager Robert Stone is talking with Mason Rook in a backstage skit. Naraku interjects to warn Rook about interfering in the upcoming NXT title match.

— OTM are making their entrance for a match when they are jumped by Shawn Spear swinging a metal folding chair. Spears hits OTM with the chairs several times before referees pour out to stop the attack. Niko Vance comes out to get Spears, and Vance is clearly upset that Spears jumped OTM.

— Kali Armstrong is interviewed to kill time when she is met by Thea Hail.

— Shiloh Hill asks Zaria to sign his petition, and she scoffs at him. Suddenly, Lizzy Rain jumps Zaria. Referees and Robert Stone run in to separate them.

Charlie Dempsey (with Birthright) vs. Shiloh Hill

Hill is continuing his latest gimmick, which reminds me of wacky Bugsy McGraw. Hill and Dempsey were given plenty of time in this match, as they wrestle through a commercial break. Finish came out of nowhere when Hill counters a front facelock with a Northern lights suplex. Hill does a bridge and scores a three count on Hill.

Match result: Shiloh Hill defeated Charlie Dempsey.

— In a post-match angle, Tristan Angels comes out to inform Hill they are entered into a Mr. NXT pageant in two weeks. This plays on Hill and his petition to become Mr. NXT. Hill intends to embarrass Angles. Hill ends the segment with a wild cackle that was odd.

— Izzi Dame berates Shawn Spears over The Culling booking a tag match the same night as her title challenge. Vance insists they will take care of the issue.

NXT Women’s Champion Lola Vice vs. Izzi Dame in a title match

Dame gets in a lot of offense during the match, as she takes the fight to Vice. She becomes upset just before a commercial break when OTM runs down to brawl with The Culling at ringside. The two teams brawl their way to the back.

They trade near falls after the show returns from the commercial break. They also have a ref bump. Double down in the ring as the ref is also down and out. Vice and Dame rise to their feet and exchange strikes. Vice with a near fall, but no ref to count. The ref finally crawls over, but Dame kicks out. Dame tosses the tile belt to Vice, and Dame does a Van Daminator of sorts by hitting a the title belt with a big boot that drops Vice. Ref crawls over again for another close two count.

Dame goes to lift Vice, only get caught in a guillotine choke. Dame flails around. Inside cradle for two. Separation just before Dame walks into a spinning back fist from Vice. The champ falls on top of the challenger to pin her.

Match result: NXT Women’s Champion Lola Vice defeated Izzi Dame via pinfall to retain her title.

— The show ends with Darkstate leaving the building and boasting about being back. They vow to finish their job next week and then go on to win all of the titles. Eavesdropping and lurking over them is Saquon Shugars, as he stands perched over Darkstate.

WWE Raw live results: Tribal Combat contract signing

Date: May 25, 2026
Location: Schottenstein Center in Columbus, OH

The Big Takeaway —

Raw featured another contract signing, a fun Intercontinental title match, and a nonsensical show-long storyline involving Austin Theory, Seth Rollins, and The Street Profits.

On a personal note: this report will be my final time covering a WWE show. See more below.

**********

Show Recap —

Paul Heyman paced around the ring, awaiting his cue to start the show as the announcers plugged Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar at Clash in Italy.

Heyman said he was there to hype a match that didn’t need to be hyped. (His speech was interrupted by chants of “Oba.”) He called this rematch the biggest in professional wrestling history, and he cut to the video screen for a pre-taped Lesnar promo.

Lesnar congratulated Femi on his WrestleMania victory, but said that win was going to cost him. Lesnar has had his ass beat before, but nothing quite like that. It was so bad that Lesnar was done (and left his gloves in the ring). However, it wouldn’t end like that for him. Lesnar asked, “Brock Lesnar can take an ass-whooping, but can you?” He said Femi would get his ass kicked by a humbled, retired beast, and he would rule over Femi.

Heyman said the good news was that everyone would get to see history, but the bad news was that Femi had awakened the beast.

Femi entered and cornered Heyman. Femi said he might have awoken Lesnar, but “what do you think four F5s has awoken in Oba Femi?” Heyman was panicking, so Femi assured him he was safe. Femi wanted Heyman alive to see him retire Lesnar a second time. Heyman liked to say it was only business, but four F5s seemed pretty personal to him.

Femi pulled out the contract and signed it on Heyman’s chest. He told Heyman to deliver a message: “Last time, I was fighting to beat him. This time, I’m fighting to kill him.” (The crowd liked Femi, but that line only got a modest reaction from them.)

Roman Reigns was shown arriving earlier. It’s his birthday, so a stagehand tried handing him a mystery gift, but he chucked it aside. Jacob Fatu, Rey Mysterio (announced as the new GM of AAA), and Judgment Day also arrived.

Intercontinental Championship match: Penta (c) vs. Je’Von Evans

Evans immediately went for a cutter, but Penta blocked it. Evans hit a hurricanrana instead, then landed on his feet after Penta tried a hurricanrana of his own. After a quick exchange of counters and a face-off, Evans joined Penta in doing his little dance.

However, Evans nailed an unsuspecting Penta with a dropkick before hitting a leaping dive. Evans tried a springboard move back in the ring, but Penta superkicked him out of the air. Moments later, with Penta back outside the ring, Evans went for a suicide dive, but Penta used his momentum to toss him into the edge of the announce table.

Evans fought back during a break by driving Penta over the barricade before hitting a springboard clothesline back into the ring. As Michael Cole noted, Evans was no longer smiling. He traded chops with Penta, but instead of going for another chop, Evans hit a sudden knee strike and a cutter for a nearfall. Penta responded with a backstabber for two.

With Penta hunched over on the apron, Evans leaped over the ropes and hit a cutter onto the edge of the ring for a two count. Penta blocked another springboard move and hit a Penta driver for a nearfall.

Penta went to the top, but Evans leaped to the top rope and hit an avalanche hurricanrana. Evans went for an OG Cutter, but Penta nailed him with a mid-air superkick. Penta went for a destroyer, but Evans countered with a knee strike.

Evans went for the OG Cutter again, but Penta caught him with a mid-air backstabber, followed by a Canadian Destroyer for the pinfall win.

— Penta raised Evans’ hand post-match, but a frustrated Evans pulled his hand away and left the ring. Penta celebrated with his belt.

Match result: Penta defeated Je’Von Evans to retain the Intercontinental Championship (11:31)

An excellent TV match. Evans is ready to be a singles champion.

Austin Theory gets a new tag team partner

Austin Theory approached Heyman backstage. Theory was ready to hand over his tag title belt to Heyman, who wasn’t sure why. Theory said Logan Paul was hurt, so he wasn’t sure what to do with it. Heyman said Logan knew that this business wasn’t ballet.

Heyman also put it in every contract that “The Vision” would be the ones defending the tag titles, without specifying who. Heyman said Theory could defend the titles with Bron Breakker. Heyman explained further until Theory gave him a big hug and thanked him.

Heyman told Theory, “I did this for you because I believe in you. Because I wanted this for you.” (Probably some reality to that line.) Theory wanted to take out anyone involved in taking out Logan. Heyman was on board.

(It’s pro wrestling logic, but it’s silly that Heyman can simply put “The Vision” in the contract, and Adam Pearce wouldn’t make him specify which members make up the team.)

********

Joe Hendry was in the ring, I guess for a concert. He sang his Fire Logan Paul song again until Theory attacked him from behind with a steel chair. Theory hit Hendry repeatedly in the back with the chair. Theory was about to leave, but turned around to hit Hendry’s “head” against the steel post (it was done safely). Officials checked on Hendry.

Backstage, Seth Rollins approached Angelo Dawkins. Rollins said he knew what it felt like to get screwed over by the Vision (as the Street Profits did at SNME). But they had an opportunity with Logan gone. The Vision was the weakest they’ve ever been, but they were also the most dangerous. (What?) Rollins said she’s never seen that side of Theory, and they should put the Vision out for good.

Montez Ford approached and was not having this. Ford wasn’t interested in Rollins’ redemption story. Rollins said if he were around for their match, the Street Profits would be tag champs right now. They didn’t have to be friends when this was over; they just needed to work together to get rid of the Vision.

Rollins knew why Ford didn’t trust him, but he was also the only one between them who was a multi-time world champion and a WrestleMania main-eventer. Ford said he never stabbed his brother in the back. Ford wanted a match against Rollins tonight, and Rollins accepted. Dawkins was annoyed.

********

There was a video package for the El Grande Americano vs. Original El Grande Americano, Mask vs. Mask match in AAA on Saturday.

Penta approached Evans backstage. Evans apologized for being unprofessional earlier. He called Penta a great champion, but let him know he’d be seeing him again soon. They bumped fists.

Rey Mysterio approached Penta and congratulated him on his success. Penta congratulated him on his position in AAA, too. Penta wanted to be a fighting champion, and there was no one he would rather face than Mysterio. Rey liked the sounds of that. Penta left to go talk to Pearce.

********

Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (w/ Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan & AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio) vs. Lyra Valkyria & Bayley

Bayley made a hot tag following a break, hitting Perez with a back suplex and sunset flip powerbomb into the corner. Valkyria tagged in and teamed with Bayley to hit Perez with a combo neckbreaker.

They awkwardly made their way to the side of the ring so they could be in position for Morgan to put Perez’s leg on the bottom rope. However, the ref saw this and tossed her from ringside. Morgan protested, so Bayley attacked her. Rodriguez clotheslined Bayley, and Valkyria wiped out Rodriguez. Perez tried to use the distraction by applying a schoolboy, but Valkyria kicked out. Morgan finally left ringside.

Bayley tagged in and went to the top rope, but Dom distracted the ref, so Rodriguez shoved Bayley off the top. Perez hit Bayley with Pop Rox, and Valkyria was supposed to break up the cover, but she was late, so Bayley kicked out of Perez’s finisher.

Rodriguez tried powerbombing Valkyria out of the ring, but Valkyria used a leg scissors to wipe them both over the top rope.

Dom leaped on the apron to distract the ref so Perez could use his AAA title as a weapon, but she got in a tug-of-war with Bayley. Bayley knocked Perez backward, and Perez knocked Dom off the apron by accidentally hitting him with the belt. Bayley rolled up Perez for the pinfall win.

Match result: Bayley & Lyra Valkyria defeated Roxanne Perez & Raquel Rodriguez (10:50)

A mess of a match. Awkward-looking spots with tons of interference and distractions. Rodriguez and Valkyria, in particular, were off in this match, and the overbooked spots didn’t help.

********

Roman Reigns met with Pearce backstage. Pearce didn’t think Jacob Fatu should be employed by WWE. Reigns understood, but he had to show the power and stroke that they (the Bloodline) had.

Reigns didn’t actually want to go back to his old ways and didn’t realize Fatu knew he had the ace to pull by challenging him to Tribal Combat. But Fatu knew Reigns had no choice but to accept as Tribal Chief. Reigns said there had to be consequences in the contract. If Fatu lost, he had to serve Reigns. But if Fatu won, he wished Pearce luck, because they were all screwed.

*******

There was a Memorial Day video narrated by Cody Rhodes.

LA Knight promo

LA Knight entered. He said it’s been a while since he’s felt this. It’s been since WrestleMania since he stood in the ring in front of everyone. He wished everyone a happy Memorial Day and thanked all of their service members.

Knight put the Vision in his rear-view mirror at WrestleMania and stood with Jimmy and Jey Uso, but the Usos have been doing things a bit differently lately. Next week on Raw, the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments begin, and he was throwing his name in the hat. That meant he would be earning a title shot and was coming for Roman Reigns, who was the most corrupt champion he’s ever seen.

Jimmy Uso interrupted. He said he fought side-by-side with Knight against the Vision at Mania. Knight said that was true, but now Jimmy was with Reigns, fighting three-on-one. It rubbed Knight the wrong way, and he was one of the Bloodline’s past victims.

Jimmy understood because a lot of people had a problem with the Bloodline. They made things ugly for everyone for years. They did what they had to do, but it wasn’t like that anymore. Jimmy invited Knight to enter KOTR because if he won, he’d have a fair shot at Reigns.

Knight heard the word “fair” and asked if Jimmy was being honest with him, or if he was even being honest with himself. Knight saw Jimmy playing third-fiddle to Reigns, behind Jey, and didn’t want to see him become Reigns’ errand boy again.

Jimmy said Knight was lucky the Yeetman wasn’t there, because if he was, they wouldn’t be talking. Knight said that proved his point. The two of them would attack him two-on-one, and maybe Reigns would join them, just like they did to Fatu.

Jimmy said their family business had nothing to do with Knight, so he should tread carefully, or he would become their business.

Knight said Jimmy was the one he liked. He was ok with Jey. But he didn’t like Reigns then, and he didn’t like him now. Reigns always needed somebody’s help. If the family business became his business, he would make sure they went out of business. Knight told Jimmy to deliver that message to Reigns.

********

Ethan Page interrupted a conversation between Pearce and Rey. Page didn’t like that Rey was trying to get an IC title match. Rusev jumped in next, wanting to know what was going on. Page said Pearce and Rey were conspiring against Rusev. Rusev believed him, so he wasn’t happy to hear this. Rey was more than happy to fight Rusev to earn an IC title match. Pearce made it official.

********

90 minutes into Raw, we’ve had two matches amounting to about 22 minutes.

Seth Rollins vs. Montez Ford

After a break, Rollins hit a superplex into a falcon arrow for two. They traded counters until Rollins hit a Pedigree for two. With Ford down, Rollins tried to talk sense into him and convince Ford that he’s changed. Ford slapped him, so Rollins hit consecutive buckle bombs.

Rollins went for a third buckle bomb, but Ford countered and drove him out of the ring. Ford hit a running flip dive over the corner to the outside, followed by a frog splash in the ring for two.

Ford went for a 450 splash, but Rollins dodged it and hit a curb stomp. Rollins was exhausted, but fell into a cover for the pinfall win.

— After the match, Dawkins scampered out to the stage where Theory attacked him with a steel chair. Theory continued the attack until officials ran out. Pearce called him sick.

Match result: Seth Rollins defeated Montez Ford (12:35)

This match was fine, but a step down from what you might expect. Unlike the Evans’ match earlier, it didn’t feel like Ford deserved a better fate here, but that seemed to be the point.

Backstage, Ford was steaming and wanted an update from Pearce on Dawkins. Rollins joined in and wanted an update, too. Ford finally agreed with Rollins that there were bigger things going on and bigger fish to fry. His brother was down, and he needed them. Rollins and Ford nodded at each other before Ford went into the trainer’s room to check on Dawkins.

Rollins told Pearce he wanted Breakker and wanted the match as soon as possible.

(Breakker wasn’t on the show tonight, and Paul is out with an injury, so it’s odd that they’re having so much trouble against one guy with a steel chair.)

Becky Lynch interview

Cathy Kelley interviewed Lynch backstage. Kelley said Sol Ruca was sidelined with injuries tonight, and it seemed like Lynch had the advantage for their upcoming match.

Lynch said some people got punched in the face and became the face of the industry, while others got punched in the face and got a wake-up call that they were in over their heads. Ruca was totally outmatched.

Some people might be impressed with her tricks and flips, but she hasn’t picked up a single pinfall victory since her debut. Ruca’s name was written in sand, but the tide was coming in. Lynch’s name was etched in stone and would be around forever. There was a difference between striving for greatness and standing across from it. Lynch welcomed her to the big time.

Ethan Page joined commentary for this match.

Rey Mysterio vs. Rusev

They played cat-and-mouse until Rey set up for a 619, but Rusev popped off the middle rope and clobbered him with a back elbow. Rusev was in control, but Rey came back after a break with a low seated senton and Lionsault for two. Rey tried a springboard move, but Rusev caught him and hit a spinning side slam, followed by a Machka Kick for two.

Rusev tried chucking Rey through the ropes, but Rey countered by hitting a 619 to the gut. Rey went for a regular 619, but Rusev caught him. Rusev went for the Accolade, but Rey quickly slipped out and applied a schoolboy for the pinfall win. Page was displeased.

Rey is now the number one contender for the IC title, setting up a potential match against Penta.

— Rusev attacked Rey after the match, so Dragon Lee ran out to make the save. Page ran into the ring, but Dragon Lee fought him off and used a hurricanrana to drive him into Rusev. Dragon Lee wiped out Page with a flip dive while Rey hit Rusev with a 619. Dragon Lee hit Rusev with Operation Dragon and posed tall with Rey.

Match result: Rey Mysterio defeated Rusev (9:27)

An irate Pearce told Theory he’d had enough and kicked him out of the building. Theory said it wasn’t enough after what happened to the rest of the Vision. Pearce told him again that he was done for the night. Heyman settled things down and walked Theory out of the building.

They walked past Alpha Academy as they left. Otis and Akira Tozawa weren’t impressed. Maxxine Dupri told them to cut Theory some slack. She said she’d catch up with them later, and she left.

(Seriously, what’s stopping Ford and Rollins from ambushing Theory right now?)

Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu contract signing

This was the second contract signing with these two men in the past four weeks.

Jacob Fatu entered first, and security filled the aisleway. Fatu signed the contract, then he chucked the leather chairs and table out of the ring at the security guards. Security swarmed into the ring, but Pearce settled them all down.

Roman Reigns entered. He signed the contract. Reigns told Pearce and security to leave them. Pearce thought it might be smart for security to remain. Reigns said Fatu made a blood oath. He can’t touch him until Italy. Reigns told them to leave now, so they did.

Reigns told Columbus to acknowledge him. They did. Reigns told Fatu this could have been simple. After Reigns beat him, Fatu could have acknowledged him, and they could have moved on to the next mission.

Fatu said hell no. Fatu wasn’t like everyone else. Reigns was indeed the reason their family was living the life that they were, that their family was living on top of the mountain. Reigns elevated the family and took them to the promised land. But he could only take them so far. It was time for a change. It was time for another destination.

Fatu smiled and asked Reigns whether he lived by the Bloodline’s code at Backlash, or if he bent the rules just to beat him. Fatu knew Reigns did what he had to do in that match, but in Tribal Combat, anything goes. Fatu would dog-walk Reigns’ bitch-ass. When Fatu took over all of this, everyone would face the consequences.

Reigns said he was a man of his word. If Fatu won, he would be head of the table. Fatu would lead, and Reigns would follow. But if Fatu couldn’t dog-walk him, Reigns would walk him like a dog. Reigns would domesticate him. Fatu would serve him, learn from him, and, in time, Fatu would love his Tribal Chief.

Fatu was on board with that. This was a win for him. Even if Reigns won, Fatu still had a job. Nothing changed there. But when Fatu won, everyone—including Reigns—would learn how to acknowledge him

They shook hands and touched foreheads to make it official.

***************

I won’t go into it too in-depth here, but as mentioned above, this will be my final time covering WWE. I’ve been watching WWF/WWE basically my entire life. The quality of the product has been much worse than it is now many times over the past three-plus decades, but it’s become increasingly difficult to follow this company as a whole for a long list of reasons.

I’ve already stopped buying merchandise and attending shows. But continuing to cover the shows doesn’t feel worth the time and mental fatigue, especially with a full year of programming ahead culminating in a WrestleMania show that, as it stands now, represents much of what’s wrong with the company. There’s more to it than that, but I’ll leave it there.

I’m (probably) not disappearing entirely from this website, for those wondering. This also isn’t me encouraging anyone to stop watching WWE. Like what you like. But I’m done with it.
