Blake Monroe interested in John Cena Classic, names potential WWE opponents

WWE’s Blake Monroe is keen on competing in The John Cena Classic and already has a few opponents in mind for the special event.

In an interview with Marca, Monroe cited it was imperative for her to participate and demonstrate her wrestling skills in The John Cena Classic. Especially after her NXT feuds and ‘unfinished business’ with Tatum Paxley, naming her as a potential opponent.

“Of course I want to be a part of it. It looks like it’s going to be a huge tournament, and obviously you need to headline it with a huge name like the glamorous Blake Monroe. As for who I’d like to face… I just escaped the women of NXT; they were tormenting me. But we have so much talent. I’d love to face Tatum again because we have unfinished business after he put me in a casket. There’s also Kendall Grey and a lot of new European additions. I’d love to be a part of it. And if I’m not, I’ll still enjoy watching because it’ll be interesting to see how all these people from different backgrounds clash.”

Monroe was further asked about Asuka’s teased retirement and praised her impact on women’s wrestling. She recalled watching Asuka win the inaugural women’s Royal Rumble in 2018, and was inspired by her wrestling career.

“For me, Asuka is one of the best wrestlers in the world. I remember watching her after she won the Royal Rumble against Charlotte Flair and thinking, ‘Wow, she’s something special.’ I feel like she came to WWE and raised the bar for the NXT women’s division and the main roster as well. I don’t know what her decision is or where her heart is right now, but I would love to wrestle her someday. So I’m kind of devastated if this really is the end, though I also have enormous respect for her career. It’s incredible.”

Monroe signed with WWE in 2025 officially joining the NXT roster. Last month, her transition to SmackDown was confirmed however she is yet to make an appearance.

Updated preview for WWE SmackDown Backlash fallout episode

WWE has made its first slate of announcements for tonight’s Backlash fallout edition of SmackDown.

– Gunther all but joined the SmackDown roster last week, but he’ll officially decide tonight if he’s going to be part of the brand going forward. If he does sign his SmackDown contract, Gunther challenging Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship will be confirmed for Clash in Italy on May 31.

– Tonight’s show is taking place at Colonial Life Arena on the campus of the University of South Carolina, where Trick Williams once played college football. A special homecoming celebration will be held for Williams on SmackDown. He’s coming off a successful United States Championship defense against Sami Zayn at Backlash.

– Last Friday, Jade Cargill returned for the first time since dropping the WWE Women’s Championship to Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 42. She immediately set her sights back on Ripley, with Cargill, B-Fab & Michin interrupting a six-woman tag match and causing Ripley, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss to lose to Fatal Influence.

Cargill will appear on tonight’s show and address the fans following last week’s attack.

  • Jade Cargill addresses her attack on WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley

Chelsea Green heading back to WWE SmackDown following heart procedure

Chelsea Green is already returning to work less than two weeks after undergoing a heart procedure.

No longer on bed rest, Green has announced that she’ll be in Columbia, South Carolina for WWE SmackDown tonight. She and husband Matt Cardona were in Los Angeles on Thursday to attend the premiere of the new Star Wars “Mandalorian and Grogu” movie.

“From #TheMandalorian and Grogu premiere tonight in LA straight to #SmackDown in Charlotte!,” Green wrote.

Green underwent a procedure around the start of May to correct an abnormal type of heart rhythm known as SVT (supraventricular tachycardia). Though the issue was present for years, it was not caught by doctors until Green suffered an episode around WrestleMania 42 where her heart rate reached 228 beats per minute for a 15-minute stretch.

At the time of this procedure, Green was already sidelined with an ankle injury. She’s remained on SmackDown while injured and even appeared last week in a pre-recorded video where she continued her storyline with United States Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, trying to make friends with Stratton despite Stratton rejecting her attempts.

Thursday was Cardona’s 41st birthday. He sent out a tweet overnight thanking everyone for the messages they’ve sent.

“Thanks everybody for the birthday wishes,” he wrote. “Had a great day with my hot wife. Flew to LA, ate steak and eggs, drank good coffee, trained legs, saw the new Star Wars movie, and now taking a red eye flight to #SmackDown.”

Christopher Daniels details how Hangman Page’s character shift transformed retirement match

Christopher Daniels explained why he chose Hangman Page to be his final wrestling opponent. He addressed the issues surrounding his transition from heel to babyface that impacted the bout.

In an interview with Michael Bochicchio,  Daniels discussed the heat Page was getting from fans at the time, and connected it to his retirement match. By the time their feud peaked, Page was perceived as a babyface which slightly altered their initial plans.

“The funny thing is at the time, he was one of the top heels. He was getting a lot of real good heel heat. Especially in his feud at the time with Jay White, he was getting a lot of heat and I wanted to do something that would have benefitted him in the end so I thought to myself, if he were to retire me, if he were to injure me so badly that I couldn’t wrestle again, that would be heat for him. But, what happened between the time of me pitching the idea and the actual match happening, he started to turn babyface, but, as that happened, he and I discussed how the match could stay the same but the ramifications and the repercussions of him retiring me were gonna be different, now that he was becoming more of a popular character and credit to him, he cut one of the most amazing promos setting up this match that I’ve ever heard.”

“I went and cut a promo maybe an hour before him and thought, oh, that was a pretty decent promo and then he went and just blew me away an hour later and just threw me in the dust basically, and you know, most credit to him how well-thought-out well-put-together his character was and his promos were putting that match together.”

Daniels retired after a 32-year wrestling career in 2025. He lost to Page in a Texas Death Match on the January 16 edition of Collision. Since then he has undertaken varied backstage duties at AEW and ROH.

WWE’s reason for running more house shows | Exclusive

In the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided some insight on WWE’s decision to run more house shows this summer.

WWE announced this week that it will be holding 10 main roster house shows in the United States as part of its Summer 2026 Tour. The dates are set for July-August and will be happening on either Thursdays or weekends. They include stops in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, California, Illinois, Virginia, New Hampshire, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Domestic house shows had mostly been phased out in the post-pandemic era, but Meltzer reports that, with a significant amount of young talent added to the roster, WWE thought it was a good idea for them to get more experience at non-televised events.

Meltzer wrote:

  • What we were told is that with more younger wrestlers on the roster than before, they felt it was good for them to get more experience away from television so this was the time to expand the schedule. Plus, unlike a few years ago when the company wasn’t as popular, there will almost surely be a nice profit margin doing the house shows. The idea in the past was less shows created more of a demand for shows and that was one of the reasons for cutting back, and the belief that the older roster could use less dates and wear and tear and they had enough experience. The attempt is to get a younger roster now and they could use more reps before a crowd.

Cody Rhodes, Oba Femi, Rhea Ripley, Seth Rollins, Jade Cargill, Trick Williams, and Drew McIntyre are advertised for the tour. Rhodes, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, has been a big proponent of WWE having more house shows and even pitched the idea to the company’s top brass.

It’s expected that ticket prices for these events will be more affordable than other WWE events.

The promotion also has live events in Europe and South America coming up, along with one house show date in Canada.

Here is the full list of newly announced domestic dates:

Buddy Matthews makes surprise return outside of AEW

AEW’s Buddy Matthews made his return to a wrestling ring after nearly 15 months away and confirmed his official comeback timeline.

Matthews returned to the ring on the first day of the World Series Wrestling’s Rise Against tour at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Australia. He attacked Donovan Dijak after his victory in a four-way match against Moose, Matt Hayter and Matt Riddle for the WSW Championship. He entered the ring in a black hoodie and steel chair in hand, striking multiple blows to Dijak. He then proceeded to address fans and announce he will be medically cleared to compete in October.

“In case you’ve forgotten my name is Buddy Matthews! And I’m the guy that kicked down the door for every Australian to make it overseas. Now let’s get one thing straight, I might not be cleared now but in October I will be. And I might just take all the gold because hell’s frozen over and you just can’t stop the unstoppable,” stated Matthews.

Matthews suffered an ankle injury during his entrance at AEW Grand Slam Australia in February 2025. Despite subsequent ligament and nerve damage to his foot, Matthews competed in his match against Kazuchika Okada for the AEW Continental Championship.

Current longest-reigning World Champion wants ‘one more match’ with Asuka outside of WWE

Athena has nothing but praise for Asuka and holds her in high regard for the influence on her wrestling career. She expressed hope that they will share the ring one final time.

In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Athena relived her wrestling rivalry with Asuka. She recalled their first meeting at Shimmer Women’s Wrestling and then clashed in the NXT ring for the Women’s Championship.

“Oh, man. Like Asuka is one of those people, that’s a forever rival for me. Like when we were back on the indies, we actually ended up wrestling at Shimmer Women’s Wrestling. That’s where we met. We had one of the hardest hitting matches I think I’ve had in my career then, and then fast forward to WWE NXT for the NXT Women’s Championship. Asuka is my yin to my yang. I really hope she’s not stepping away. I’ve actually been trying to get a hold of her because I lost a whole bunch of people’s numbers when I switched my phone and everything.”

She referenced Asuka as a living legend that audiences still remain unaware of her capabilities and wrestling impact.

“But man, talk about someone who’s just the epitome of what legendary status is or what a living legend is. I, to some extent, don’t feel like people really understand how much she’s done for wrestling as a whole. Like from grinding on the indies to being like an independent contractor in Japan to getting signed to WWE. Not only that, like just excelling in WWE in every form and facet from match to match, but never changing who she was as a person, a character. I couldn’t be more proud, more happy for her. I hate her in that same breath, of course.”

Athena expressed interest in a final match with Asuka to conclude their rivalry out of respect for her legendary career. She emphasized how important competing against Asuka was in shaping her as a performer and wrestler.

“I also feel like I have to have one more match eventually and hope that this isn’t it. This isn’t the long goodbye, if you will. But like, Asuka’s one of those people that I wouldn’t be who I am as a performer, as an athlete, if she wasn’t in my life. If she wasn’t on the opposite side of the ring. I don’t think I would have gotten anything really if I didn’t have that experience with her.”

Asuka teased retirement after her WWE Backlash match against IYO SKY after a 22-year wrestling career. On the following edition of Raw, she bid farewell to SKY in a passing of the torch moment.

On the other hand, after Athena’s WWE release in 2021 she returned to the independent circuit before debuting on AEW. In December 2022 she captured the Women’s ROH Championship and continues to hold the title with her reign surpassing the 1250 day mark.

Raquel Rodriguez on 10 years in WWE: ‘My priorities have definitely changed a lot’

Raquel Rodriguez looked back on her 10-year anniversary with WWE, opening up about her growth, evolving mindset and lessons along the way.

Rodriguez told Soundsphere, in an exclusive interview, about the learnings in her ten year WWE career, and evolution as an in-ring competitor.

“I think I’ve learned that I’m much stronger than I believe.I can handle a lot more than I think I can. When you’re out there in this crazy business, you’re on your own, young, growing up through this business for 10 years. It’s the longest job I’ve ever held, by the way.”

“You really grow as a human, as a person and you learn what’s important in life. For me at least my priorities have definitely changed a lot. I’ve focused more on my health this year, I’ve focused more on my family and my connections and my relationships that matter to me the most.”

“That’s what really gets me through the long travel days and the long nights on the road when I miss my animals and I miss my family. But I’ve learned that I can do it and that I can stay strong. As long as I have my beliefs and my faith, there’s really nothing that can get under my skin these days.”

Rodriguez marked her WWE debut on NXT in 2016. Nearly five years later, she won the brand’s Women’s Championship from IYO SKY. She joined The Judgment Day in 2024 assisting Liv Morgan in her Bad Blood match against Rhea Ripley.

In 2021, Rodriguez and Dakota Kai (aka Charlie) became the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. Following her main roster transition, she also held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles with Morgan on multiple occasions. And seeks to regain tag team title glory alongside Roxanne Perez.

AEW All In 2026 ticket sales struggling compared to 2024 Wembley number

AEW All In 2026 is set to take place from Wembley Stadium once again this year, with the card taking place on Sunday, August 30th 2026. According to the latest report from WrestleTix, around 24,347 tickets have been distributed so far, which is tracking quite a bit lower than the Wembley event has done in prior years.

Last year’s All In event took place from Texas, so this year will be the company’s return to the UK and London’s biggest stadium. Overall around 53,922 tickets were reportedly distributed for that 2024 event (again via WrestleTix), so there’s a long way to go before potentially getting anywhere near that number for 2026.

Granted, there are 108 days to go before the event and both the Double or Nothing and Forbidden Door PPVs take place before All In 2026, so it will probably be a while until we know how the card will stack up for August. Still, there’s a lot of availability for tickets compared to this point in prior years.

All In 2026 Ticket Sales compared to 2024

For reference, All In 2024 made more than $4 million in ticket revenue on the first day of on sale, so around 34,000 tickets in December 2023, nine months before the event even took place. This was the second time that the company ran the venue after their Wembley debut the year prior.

Tony Khan confirmed back on May 5th 2023, so around a similar timeframe to now, that 60,000 tickets for £6.1M ($7.7M) had been sold for the inaugural Wembley All In by that point.

As F4W’s own Dave Meltzer recently pointed out, there is a reason that nobody except NJPW tends to try and repeat stadium shows ongoing and annually (Wrestle Kingdom traditionally on January 4th). Even with the economic downturn and there being less disposable income among households in the UK right now, anything below 30,000 tickets for Wembley would certainly not be good and potentially risk the company likely not returning for 2027 (if that is even a possibility with current scheduling at Wembley).

Ronda Rousey ‘won’t hesitate’ to break Gina Carano’s arm in MMA superfight

Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano is set to take place this weekend from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. During the last press conference for the first ever MVP MMA event, Rousey admitted that she would be hesitant when it came to breaking the arm of her opponent Carano during the fight, despite the mutual respect the two appear to have for each other.

“I definitely wouldn’t have any hesitation in breaking it” Rousey replied when asked if she would be hesitant to break her opponent’s arm during the fight. “But I also wouldn’t hesitate in putting it back in place, it’s kind of a wax on wax off kind of situation. You know, you don’t really break it, you just kind of dislocate it” Rousey added.

“It’s not that bad, I’ve had my elbow go out several times because I didn’t tap and I thought I was really cool when I was young and I wouldn’t pay for it when I was older. But yeah, I wouldn’t hesitate and I would make sure to put it back” Rousey finished.

Ronda Rousey Armbar

Rousey averaged 4.8 submission attempts per 15 minutes in the UFC, the highest figure in women’s bantamweight history (via UFCStats). Her average fight time across 12 pro bouts is 3 minutes and 5 seconds. Eleven of her 12 wins are finishes, most by armbar. It’s very likely that ‘Rowdy’ will try to use her standard template of close the distance, tie up in the clinch, throw with a hip toss, take side control and isolate the arm in this fight.

Ronda Rousey claims purse vs Gina Carano will be ‘smashing the record’ for women’s MMA

Ronda Rousey will be facing Gina Carano this weekend in the main event of MVP’s first ever MMA card on Netflix. While the dream fight between arguably the two biggest names in Women’s MMA history is coming a few years too late, it’s still going to be a massive moment in the sport and both women will be reportedly be getting paid handsomely for their work.

Speaking to talkSPORT in the UK, Rousey noted that she and Carano are going to break the record for Women’s pay in an MMA fight: “The biggest money fight is the biggest fight period. And we [Kayla Harrison] honestly have very different definitions of greatness. Mine is making history, making a cultural impact and influencing the future of the sport. I’ve already won a record eight consecutive title fights, there’s nothing left for me to do in UFC. So now me and Gina are smashing the record for the most women have been paid in combat sports.”

The actual number that both women are being paid for the fight has not been confirmed publicly, but it was revealed that the minimum any fighter on the card would be getting is $40,000, even in a loss. It’s worth noting that Rousey’s last reported purse in the UFC was $3m, so there’s a good chance this number will eclipse that should her claim be legitimate.

AEW Double or Nothing 2026 ticket sales doing extremely well following Dynamite this week

AEW Double or Nothing 2026 is set to take place on Sunday, May 24th from Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing, New York. According to a new report from WrestleTix, the ticket sales for the show are doing extremely well just a week or so out of the event.

The latest report shows that 13,848 tickets have been distributed for the PPV (as of writing). This is way up on last year’s iteration of the event, which took place from Glendale, Arizona and saw 8,200 tickets distributed. As of writing, the cheapest ticket available to purchase for a standard admission is tracking at $225.40.

There is a very good chance that the show will sell out for AEW’s return to the Big Apple. Incidentally, there was a bump of around +360 tickets sold between the two reports from WrestleTix yesterday morning and night, with more confirmed for the show on Dynamite and the continued build likely contributing to the uptick.

AEW Double or Nothing 2026 card so far

Here are all of the matches currently confirmed for the card at AEW Double or Nothing 2026:

  • AEW Women’s World Championship Match: Thekla (c) vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Jamie Hayter vs. Kris Statlander

WWE SmackDown tickets sold tonight reportedly below year to date average

WWE SmackDown takes place tonight from Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC, and according to the latest report from WrestleTix, tickets are currently tracking below the yearly average for live events.

8,182 tickets for the show have been distributed as of writing, which is below the current year to date average of 10,385. This number will likely go up in the hours leading up to the broadcast, with walk ups having not yet been factored in. The cheapest ticket available for standard admission right now is tracking at $45.65, and there are around 38 tickets up on the resale market.

This number is also below what was sold the last time the company ran the building, which was back on 10/18/2024 for an episode of Smackdown. 10,215 tickets were distributed for that show, which itself is below what the company is averaging in 2026 year to date.

What to expect on WWE SmackDown tonight

Tonight’s show will focus on the fallout from Backlash in Tampa last weekend as well as starting to build towards the May 23 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event and then the Clash in Italy PLE on May 31.

Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano Fight Preview and Breakdown

Rousey vs Carano – Striking breakdown

Carano is the better technical striker on paper, and her career numbers back that up. She averages 4.50 significant strikes landed per minute against Rousey’s 4.17 (via UFCStats), absorbs at a rate of 2.66 against Rousey’s 4.14, and her listed strike defense is 64% to Rousey’s 44%. She hits more, gets hit less, and has the cleaner Muay Thai pedigree (via UFCStats).

Sig. strike accuracy52%47%
Sig. strikes absorbed per minute4.142.66
Sig. strike defense44%64%
Career KO/TKO wins33

It’s worth noting here though that Carano’s stats are 17 years old and built against EliteXC-tier opposition. Rousey’s boxing was always a liability, we saw her chin give out under both Holm and Nunes, but her numbers are inflated by short fights where she managed to dictate the terms. Neither fighter has the modern footwork or kicking arsenal you’d expect from a 2026 featherweight fighter, but that’s not so much of an issue when they’re facing each other rather than current competition.

Rousey vs Carano – Grappling breakdown

Rousey averages 6.26 takedowns per 15 minutes at 68% accuracy and 4.8 submission attempts per 15, which is still the highest figure in WMMA history despite Rousey having not fought since 2016. Nine of her 12 career wins come by submission, mostly armbars. Carano lands 1.24 takedowns per 15 and has exactly one career submission win (a rear-naked choke from 2007).

Grappling statRouseyCarano

Takedown accuracy68%66%
Takedown defense50%85% (small sample)
Submission attempts per 154.81.6
Career submission wins91

It’s again worth noting here that Carano’s 85% takedown defense was built against fighters who weren’t 2008 Olympic medalists, so you can throw that out of the window against a judoka of Rousey’s caliber.

The intangibles

  • Layoff – Carano’s 16-year absence is the longest of any fighter in a 2026 main event by some distance, and rust always shows up first when it comes to timing and footwork in the cage, which is the one thing she can’t afford to lose.
  • Age – Carano is 44, Rousey is 39.
  • Weight class – Rousey is moving up 10 lbs to Carano’s natural division, which strips the speed advantage that carried most of her UFC run.

How the fight likely unfolds

Rousey’s only sensible path is to close the distance, eat one or two strikes on the way in, secure the clinch, and convert to a hip toss inside 60 seconds.

Carano’s only sensible path is to keep her hips back, jab the range, and throw her right hand the moment Rousey ducks. If the fight reaches round two, then I think the stylistic edge tilts hard to Carano, she’s the more rounded striker and Rousey’s gas tank after nine years off is the biggest unknown on the card. The whole question is whether Rousey can get her hands on Carano before Carano can land flush. My prediction though is that she can and likely finishes the fight inside the first round.
