Cody Rhodes hopes WWE brings WrestleMania to the United Kingdom within the next five years.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has been actively campaigning for his city to host WrestleMania, including meeting with WWE executives Nick Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque this summer. If it happens, this would be the first WrestleMania to ever take place outside of North America.
“If I’m aiming, it would be cool to get it [in the UK] in the next five years,” Rhodes said. “There’s some really big venues over here that could host a WrestleMania. I think American fans would jump at the chance to come to a WrestleMania [overseas], whether that that be in Manchester or London, I think they’d go nuts for it.”
John Cena has also been vocal in his belief that WrestleMania should come to the UK. Though his in-ring career will be over by then, Cena promised that he will be there as a fan if a UK WrestleMania happens.
“When the greatest of all time, as we like to call John [Cena], goes out there and says it, it almost wills itself into existence,” Rhodes told BBC News. “I’m very much looking forward to watching that situation unfold.”
Las Vegas will be the host city for WrestleMania 41 in April 2025. Beyond that, we know that Indianapolis is getting a future WrestleMania as part of a deal between WWE and Indiana Sports Corp, but the year for that event has not been confirmed.
Rhodes — the current Undisputed WWE Champion — has headlined WrestleMania each of the past two years. He’s currently in the UK for a WWE house show tour.

The announcement of the tour comes as WWE is in Scotland this weekend for Clash at the Castle.
WWE has announced a slate of United Kingdom tour dates for April 2024.

It appears that next year’s WWE Labor Day weekend pay-per-view will be taking place in the United Kingdom.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE is planning to hold next September’s Labor Day weekend PPV in the UK. Meltzer added that the plan isn’t definite, but WWE has been talking to Principality Stadium in Cardiff and Wembley Stadium in London to run the show in one of those buildings.
While announcing the company’s 2022 PPV schedule yesterday, WWE revealed that there would be an event taking place on either Saturday, September 3 or Sunday, September 4 at a to be determined location. AEW All Out is also traditionally held during Labor Day weekend.
“The September show, they’re going to go Labor Day weekend, which is the same weekend as AEW does All Out. And it will not go head-to-head most likely, almost for sure — I would say for sure because of the time zone difference,” Meltzer said
“The plan is to run it — I mean this is not a definite — but I know that they were talking to [Principality] Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, and Wembley in London to run in one of those two buildings.”
Fightful first reported yesterday that the Labor Day weekend PPV was tentatively slated for the UK.
TalkSport had reported last month that WWE was working on bringing SummerSlam to the UK in 2022, which would have marked the 30th anniversary of SummerSlam 1992 taking place in the country. But SummerSlam will instead be held at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, July 30. TalkSport’s report did note that it was possible WWE would be bringing a stadium show to the UK that wasn’t SummerSlam.
WWE’s announced PPV schedule for 2022 is listed below:
Saturday, January 1: Day 1at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia
Saturday, January 29: Royal Rumble at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri
Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3: WrestleMania 38 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas
Sunday, May 8: Pay-per-view at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island
Sunday, June 5: Pay-per-view at Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois
Saturday, July 2: Money in the Bankat Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada
Saturday, July 30: SummerSlam at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee
Saturday, September 3 or Sunday, September 4: Pay-per-view at TBD location
Saturday, November 26: Survivor Seriesat TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts
In February and October, there will be PPVs in Saudi Arabia that have yet to be announced. There are no PPVs scheduled for March, August, or December.
WWE is reportedly working on bringing SummerSlam to the United Kingdom next year.
TalkSport reported today that SummerSlam 2022 taking place in the UK is in the works, with Principality Stadium in Cardiff being the leading candidate to host the show. The event would mark the 30th anniversary of SummerSlam 1992 being held at Wembley Stadium in London.
TalkSport wrote that it’s believed that Principality Stadium’s retractable roof is an attractive feature for hosting the show. The report also states that nothing is final right now, and it’s possible that there will be a stadium show in the UK that isn’t SummerSlam:
Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is WWE’s front-runner to hold the event and they’ve been working on that venue for a number of months.
It’s believed the retractable roof is an attractive feature. The venue can hold 74,500 people, but Anthony Joshua fought in front of 78,000 when he battled Carlos Takam back in 2017, a layout more closely linked to wrestling.
Sources tell talkSPORT that although it’s WWE’s preferred venue, nothing is final right now. It’s even possible that WWE will hold a stadium show in the UK that isn’t SummerSlam.
Either way, plans for a WWE pay-per-view in the UK are looking ‘very positive’ after last week.
It’s understood that WWE held meetings regarding the plans last week during their UK tour and Drew McIntyre was even a part of them.
It was announced yesterday that Royal Rumble 2022 will take place at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis on Saturday, January 29. WrestleMania 38 and Money in the Bank 2022 will also be stadium shows. WrestleMania 38 is being held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, while Money in the Bank will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Big E cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on the 9/13 Raw to win the WWE championship from Bobby Lashley, signifying his switching brands and reuniting The New Day.
Born Ettore Ewen, the 35-year-old Tampa product was a state heavyweight champion wrestler at Wharton High School and football player, who went to the University of Iowa, and after college, became a powerlifter.
A mutual friend contacted Jim Ross, and he was given a WWE tryout in 2009 and WWE signed him to a deal at that time. He started as Big E Langston in Florida Championship Wrestling, which was shortened to Big E. He was popular due to his personality and those in developmental thought he could be a groundbreaking performer with his leaping ability and agility and power combination.
In 2012, he was brought up to the main roster, and on November 18, 2013, won the IC title from Curtis Axel. But his career took off in 2014 as part of the New Day tag team. The idea started out silly but ended up being tweaked by the three guys in it and the group held the Raw tag team titles twice and Smackdown version of the titles six times.

SUNDAY NEWS UPDATE
Our weekend show is up on the site right now. We did two shows this weekend, one with Garrett Gonzalez on Dark Side of the Ring and the AEW & WWE trends and what they say about the future and last night we talked about the weekend shows and the first two nights of G-1.
I’d say go out of your way to see Shingo Takagi vs. Tomohiro Ishii from night one of G-1. It’s easily one of the best matches of this year.
For this past week, the only thing that trended on Google in combat sports was UFC yesterday being No. 9 with 100,000 searches yesterday. Notable that nothing from Dark Side on Thursday cracked the list on Friday.
G1 returns for more A block matches on Thursday at Ota Ward Gym in Tokyo and the next B block show is Friday in the same gym. We are looking for your thoughts on the first two nights of the tournament, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match for each show to [email protected]. We’re also looking for reports on Friday’s Game Changer show, last night’s WWE in North Charleston, SC, tonight’s WWE in Augusta, GA and tomorrow’s WWE show in London at the O2 Arena.
To attend the WWE show in London tomorrow you need proof of a COVID-19 vaccination.
The Stardom Five Star Grand Prix ends tomorrow at Korakuen Hall.
Raw tomorrow has announced Natalya & Tamina defending the tag titles against Rhea Ripley & Nikki ASH, Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler, Sheamus vs. Jeff Hardy and if Hardy wins the U.S. title match at Extreme Rules becomes a three-way, Alexa Bliss welcomes Charlotte Flair t the playground, the hotshot match of Roman Reigns & Usos vs. New Day and the celebration of Big E’s title win.
Results from WWE in Newcastle, UK today:

Former Florida & Carolinas referee Stu Schwartz passed away this weekend.
If you’ve seen the news about the death of Roger Brown, who was one of the best NFL defensive linemen of the 1960s and part of two different versions of the Fearsome Foursome, Brown did wrestle during the off season for The Sheik and for Mike LeBell in the Michigan-Ohio territory and Southern California territory during the off-season from football in 1967-70.
Julius Anglickas was named the newest person in the Bellator light heavyweight Grand Prix tournament replacing Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Johnson pulled out of the 10/16 title fight with champion Vadim Nemkov due to an undisclosed illness and Anglickas will be getting the title shot and a spot in the tournament’s final four.
RevPro from today in London. Aussie Open vs. Destination Everywhere where Aussie Open won the tag titles got a standing ovation and tore the house down. The Newcastle show is taking place at Utilita Arena Newcastle, the London show is being held at The O2 London, the Cardiff show is at Motorpoint Arena Cardiff, and the Glasgow show is at The SSE Hydro.
This will be the first time the WWE main roster has been to the UK since the COVID-19 pandemic began. WWE was set to hold a UK tour in May 2020, but the pandemic prevented that from happening.
In addition to featuring wrestlers from the SmackDown roster, the tour will be a homecoming for Raw’s Drew McIntyre. Raw’s Jinder Mahal is also set for the tour and is advertised to face McIntyre in street fights.
Universal Champion Roman Reigns and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos aren’t listed for the tour. They’ll instead be appearing at Raw’s events while the UK tour is going on.

Taped at The Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, England on October 4
Quick results:
– Ilja Dragunov beat Saxon Huxley and was intently watched by Alexander Wolfe, his actual former trainer.
– Aichner & Barthel beat The Hunt in a very good match.
– Xia Brookside scored an upset win over Nina Samuels.
– Gallus conquered the NXT UK tag team titles, beating Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster in a tremendous match.
Full rundown:
The show opened with a video recapping Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster at TakeOver and then focused on their history with Gallus, leading up to their title defense tonight.
Ilja Dragunov pinned Saxon Huxley (5:23)
Dragunov started off strong with an elbow and a senton. He was in control until Huxley caught him off a bodypress and applied a chin lock. Dragunov came back with hard chops and punches in the corner. He suplexed Huxley into the ring as he was on the apron and then hit a high angle German suplex off a body lock. Alexander Wolfe of Imperium came out at that point to watch the match.
Huxley caught Dragunov off a Konstantin Special attempt and suplexed him and then covered him for a near fall. Dragunov sent Huxley to the outside and then hit a top rope clothesline to the outside. He followed that up with a senton off the top and followed with Torpedo Moskau for the win. Wolfe smiled and applauded him from the aisle when Dragunov noticed him.
At that point, Imperium’s music played and Wolfe’s smile vanished. Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner came out and it looked like the three men would face off with Dragunov. However, Barthel and Aichner just walked to Dragunov’s left and right and went into the ring for their upcoming match.
Imperium (Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel) beat The Hunt (Primate & Wild Boar) (7:54)
Primate and Aichner started and got into a battle of hard hits. Barthel and Wild Boar were in next and The Hunt quickly sent both members of Imperium to ringside. Barthel slammed Boar as Primate went for a dive but got caught by Aichner who slammed him into the stairs and hit the running knee ot the face. Barthel kicked a mud hole into Boar as Aichner took over. They hung Boar upside down in the ropes and hit stereo dropkicks on him from in and outside the ring.

The champs hit dropkicks to the challengers right away, sending them to the outside where they followed up with somersault planchas. Andrews then hit a suicide dive on Coffey and tagged in Webster. They sent Wolfgang over the top and then Andrews hit a dropkick off a pounce attempt by Coffey and tagged Webster. They hit their somersault senton/moonsault combo. Wolfgang eventually came back in and evened the odds, attacking Andrews.
Gallus worked over Andrews with Wolfgang ramming him into the corner off his shoulders and Coffey decking him with a hard shot. He took out Webster on the apron and locked in a chinbar as Joe Coffey walked out and watched the match from the entrance. Andrews finally got the hot tag and Webster ran wild, hitting a quebrada on Wolfgang and disposing of Coffey before hitting a dive on Wolfgang.
He hit a somersault dive on both members of Gallus as Joe Coffey frantically paced the aisle. Andrews hit the assisted standing 450 on Coffey. Coffey kicked out and Gallus cae back with a uranage and choke slam on Webster. They hit an assisted slingshot/Samoan Drop followed by a moonsault by Wolfgang but Andrews made the save, nicking the referee in the head in the process. Andrews hit a barrage of strikes on both men, then tagged out. Webster hit Wolfgang with a knee to the jaw and a head butt, but Wolfgang came back with a double clothesline and collapsed as Joe Coffey continued to look on.
Both teams regrouped in their corners until they clashed again. Andrews turned a slingshot into the Stunt Dog Millionaire and then proceeded to kill Wolfgang with a knee assisted poison rana, followed by a somersault senton by Webster on Coffey for a near fall. On the outside, Wolfgang launched Andrews horizontally into the ring post as Webster (in the ring) went for a Welsh Dragon which missed.
Wolfgang hit the Glasgow Sendoff, followed by their enzuigir/powerslam finish for the pin, win, and title change. Joe Coffey entered the ring and Gallus shook hands and posed as the show went off the air.
