DIY qualify for WWE SmackDown number one contender’s match

DIY are heading to Friday’s number one contender match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles.

Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa won a four-way bout on Monday to qualify for the number one contenders tag team match defeating The Creed Brothers, New Day, and Imperium after Ciampa pinned Giovanni Vinci. With the win, DIY now advance to a match against Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate where the winners will face champions Damian Priest & Finn Balor at Elimination Chamber on February 24.

Dunne & Bate won their own qualifying match back on Friday, defeating Pretty Deadly, Humberto & Angel, and the LWO (Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro). The two have been on a winning streak since reuniting last month, with Dunne reverting back to his name after going by Butch since being called up to the main roster.

The announced lineup for the Friday, February 9 WWE SmackDown:

  • Tag Team title number one contender’s match: Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate vs. DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa)
  • SmackDown GM Nick Aldis chooses United States Champion Logan Paul’s next opponent

Two title matches set for next week’s WWE Raw

Two titles will be defended on next week’s Raw.

Intercontinental Champion Gunther will defend against New Day’s Kofi Kingston. Judgment Day’s Damian Priest & Finn Balor, meanwhile, will defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles against DIY (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano).

The New Day have been feuding with members of Imperium for the last several weeks. On Monday’s Raw, Kingston & Xavier Woods went to a double count against Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci. The two teams ended up brawling into the crowd, ending when New Day speared both Kaiser & Vinci off equipment boxes through tables. Later, Kingston challenged Gunther for next week.

Rhea Ripley informed Priest on Monday that he and Balor would have to defend their titles against DIY. Later in the show, Balor interfered in Dominik Mysterio’s match against The Miz, helping Mysterio win. Balor continued to attack Miz until DIY came out for the save.

Bronson Reed challenged Jey Uso for next week’s Raw, saying that while Uso was looking for championship gold, nothing would get in the way of accomplishing his own championship goals.

Here is what has been announced for next week’s Raw:

  • WWE Intercontinental title: Gunther defends against Kofi Kingston
  • Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles: Damian Priest & Finn Balor defend against DIY
  • Jey Uso vs. Bronson Reed

Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso win Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles at Fastlane

The unlikely duo of Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso are now tag team champions.

The Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles changed hands with Rhodes & Uso defeating Finn Balor & Damian Priest at Fastlane. A miscommunication between Priest and JD McDonagh led to Judgment Day losing the match.

McDonagh attempted to hit Rhodes with Priest’s Money in the Bank briefcase, but Rhodes moved out of the way and McDonagh accidentally struck Priest in the knee. Rhodes laid McDonagh out, then capitalized on the situation by giving Priest a Cross Rhodes onto the announce table.

Uso gave Balor a superkick and held him in position so Rhodes could hit a Cody Cutter. Rhodes followed that up with a Cross Rhodes before pinning Balor to win the match.

This is the first championship Rhodes has held since returning to WWE. For Jey, it’s the only title reign he’s ever had with someone other than his twin brother Jimmy.

In storyline, Rhodes brought Jey over to the Raw roster after Jey quit SmackDown. Jey quit after Jimmy cost him a match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. At some point, SmackDown will be receiving “trade compensation” for losing Jey to Raw.

McDonagh, who is friends with Balor, has been trying to get a spot in The Judgment Day in recent months. Priest hasn’t wanted McDonagh to join the group.

Undisputed Tag Team title match added to WWE Fastlane

An Undisputed WWE Tag Team title match has been added to Saturday’s Fastlane event.

Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso will team together to challenge current champions Finn Balor and Damian Priest. The match was announced at the start of Monday’s Raw, when Rhea Ripley returned and mentioned that Rhodes & Uso were coming for the titles.

Rhodes at WWE Payback last month announced that Uso had jumped to Raw as part of a talent trade between Raw and SmackDown. Balor had attempted to recruit Uso as part of Judgment Day, but Uso rejected the offer. As a result, the Judgment Day have now been targeting Uso as well as Rhodes.

Here is the updated lineup for Saturday’s Fastlane:

  • Last man standing match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins defends against Shinsuke Nakamura
  • WWE Women’s Championship: IYO SKY defends against Asuka and Charlotte Flair
  • Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles: The Judgment Day defend against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso
  • John Cena & LA Knight vs. Solo Sikoa & Jimmy Uso
  • Rey Mysterio & The LWO vs. Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits

Butch to replace Drew McIntyre in WWE SmackDown tag title match

Butch of the Brawling Brutes will be replacing Drew McIntyre in a tag team title match set for Friday’s SmackDown.

WWE confirmed during Monday’s Raw that The Usos will be defending the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles on Friday against Butch and Sheamus.

Drew McIntyre was originally scheduled to team with Sheamus, as the two had defeated The Usos on SmackDown two weeks ago. However, McIntyre revealed in a tweet Monday afternoon that he is ‘medically disqualified’ to compete on Friday.

“Unfortunately I am medically disqualified to compete this Friday on #Smackdown,” McIntyre wrote. “I don’t like to miss any shows as everybody knows but I promise I’ll be back soon.”

The Usos defended the titles successfully against the team of Matt Riddle and Kevin Owens on Monday’s Raw. Originally, The Usos were to defend the titles against Riddle and Elias, however The Bloodline took out Elias prior to the match.

Undisputed WWE Tag Team title match set for Money in the Bank

A match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship is set for Money in the Bank next month.

WWE confirmed this afternoon that The Usos will defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles against The Street Profits on July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins won a Championship Contender’s match against the Usos on the June 6 edition of Raw.

On this week’s show, Jimmy Uso defeated Montez Ford in a singles match.

The Usos unified the SmackDown and Raw Tag Team titles by defeating then Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle) in a winner-take-all match that took place on the May 20 edition of SmackDown.

Here is the lineup so far for Money in the Bank:

  • Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley for the Raw Women’s Championship
  • Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match (Seth Rollins has qualified thus far)
  • Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match (Lacey Evans, Alexa Bliss, and Liv Morgan have qualified thus far)
