Trevor Lee departing Impact Wrestling, WWE interested

Trevor Lee has finished up with Impact Wrestling.

PWinsider reported today that Lee gave notice to Impact and is departing the company. They noted that WWE is interested in bringing in Lee for NXT.

Our Dave Meltzer has confirmed their report and notes that Lee’s contract with Impact ends on December 31, 2018.

Lee responded to the report via Twitter: ‘I’m still ‘Impact wrestling Star’ Trevor Lee.”

Lee was in action at this week’s Impact television tapings at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas. As part of the build to January’s Homecoming pay-per-view, he lost an Ultimate X qualifying match to Trey Miguel. Lee was also defeated by Killer Kross in a match on the last day of this week’s tapings. There was a post-match angle where Kross punched a brick/cinder block into Lee’s face.

Lee is a former three-time X Division Champion and one-time Tag Team Champion for Impact. He’s also a regular for PWG, AAW, and CWF Mid-Atlantic.

Six-way match announced for Impact’s Redemption PPV

The card for Impact Wrestling’s Redemption pay-per-view now has six confirmed matches.

A six-way match was added to the lineup for the PPV today, with it featuring Brian Cage, Taiji Ishimori, DJ Z, El Hijo Del Fantasma, Trevor Lee, and Dezmond Xavier. Ishimori is working the show despite departing Pro Wrestling NOAH last month, and DJ Z is making another appearance for Impact after returning for the first time in over a year at their WrestleMania week event with Lucha Underground.

Redemption is the company’s first PPV since last November and will take place at the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida on April 22nd. The main event was originally supposed to be Austin Aries defending his World Championship against Alberto El Patron, but that was changed to Aries vs. Pentagon Jr. vs. Fenix after El Patron was released.

The next match for Redemption will be announced on Monday. Here’s the updated card:

  • Impact World Champion Austin Aries defending against Pentagon Jr. and Fenix in a triple threat match

Show Recap —

– In the back, LAX and VOW were already brawling as Impact went on the air. The two teams will compete later tonight.

– In the Impact Zone, Sienna sat in the middle of the ring. She demanded to know who her opponent is for Destination X next week. Karen Jarrett came out and introduced Gail Kim, with Kim promising to leave Destination X with the belt. They ended up brawling and it took several referees to break them up.

– Backstage, Joseph Park tried to pump up Grado for their match later.

El Hijo De Fantasma & Naomichi Marufuji defeated Laredo Kid & Garza Jr.

Laredo Kid took out Marufuji with a crossbody to the floor, but Fantasma scored a close near fall with a frog splash. Fantasma and Laredo Kid knocked each other with a kick to the head. Marufuji hit the Slice Bread #2 on Garza Jr. to score the win.

– A new stable known as OVE (Ohio vs. Everything) debuts next week.

Kongo Kong defeated Joseph Park & Grado

Park and Grado were both terrified of Kong, but they worked together to gain the brief advantage. Kong chokeslammed Grado and hit a cannonball in the corner on Park for the win.

After the match, Kong attempted to splash Grado and Park from the top until Laurel Van Ness stopped him. Kong picked up Van Ness when Tyrus interrupted. Tyrus and Kong had a staredown until Van Ness dragged Kong away.

– McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Trevor Lee, Low Ki, and Bobby Lashley in the back. Lashley pointed out that they’re not friends and said to stay out of his way.

– A video of Jeff Jarrett at the American Top Team gym aired. Jarrett gave his opinion on Dan Lambert wanting Bobby Lashley to give up wrestling and focus on MMA.

Down and Dirty with Dutch Mantell

Earlier today, Mantell interviewed Matt Sydal and Bobby Lashley face to face. Lashley was upset about X Division guys trying to step up to heavyweight, which led to a brief altercation.

– Last week, cameras caught Karen Jarrett and Bruce Prichard arguing. Prichard will make an announcement that will change GFW next week.

GFW Unified Tag Team Champions LAX (w/ Konnan, Homicide, Low Ki, and Diamante) defeated VOW in a street fight to retain their titles

Before the match, Konnan thanked GFW for making the match a street fight and promised chaos.

LAX and VOW brawled around ringside to start it off before VOW took over and introduced two tables to the match. VOW put Ortiz through a table, but Homicide pulled out the referee to stop the count.

Mayweather gave Homicide a sloppy looking powerbomb into the steps. Low Ki handcuffed Mayweather to the corner, and LAX sent Wilcox head-first into a chair in the corner and put him through a table to win the match.

Taiji Ishimori defeated ACH in a Super X Cup semifinal match

Ishimori gained the advantage and took control. ACH made a brief comeback, but Ishimori took over again. ACH scored a close near fall with a clothesline. He attempted a tombstone, but Ishimori countered with a pair of knees. Ishimori then hit a 450 splash to score the win. It will be Ishimori vs. Dezmond Xavier in the Super X Cup finals next week.

– In the back, Mantell discussed Prichard and Karen Jarrett arguing.

Bobby Lashley, Trevor Lee & Low Ki defeated Alberto El Patron, Matt Sydal & Sonjay Dutt

El Patron attacked Low Ki to start the match, which led to Dutt and Sydal both hitting standing moonsaults on the heels. The heels were able to take over and isolated Sydal in their corner until Dutt came in and ran wild on Lee. Dutt had Lee pinned, but Lashley broke up the count by picking up Dutt and giving him a dominator.

El Patron got the hot tag and took out the heels. In a crazy spot, Sydal gave Lee a hurricanrana off of Dutt’s shoulders as he was sitting on the top turnbuckle. Lashley caught Dutt and hit a powerslam, and Low Ki hit the Warrior’s Way on Dutt to win the match.

Next Week: It’s Destination X. The lineup features:

  • GFW Unified World Champion Alberto El Patron defending against Low Ki
  • Taiji Ishimori vs. Dezmond Xavier in the Super X Cup finals
  • GFW Knockout’s Champion Sienna defending against Gail Kim

Show Recap —

Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions LAX (w/ Konnan, Homicide & Diamante) defeated Laredo Kid & Garza Jr. in a first round GFW tag title tournament match

The other members of LAX attacked Laredo Kid on the floor. Garza Jr. ran wild on the heels but got caught by a hurricanrana from Diamante from the apron to the floor. LAX used the powerbomb/blockbuster combination on Laredo Kid to advance to the semifinals.

– Josh Mathews was overcome with joy when he noticed that Jeremy Borash wasn’t in the audience this week.

– In the back, Bruce Prichard was on the phone when Magnus approached and blamed him for losing the title. Magnus promised to show what he’s made of.

Kongo Kong (w/ Laurel Van Ness) defeated Braxton Sutter (w/ Allie)

Kong missed the cannonball in the corner and Sutter made a comeback. However, he couldn’t knock Kong off his feet. Kong splashed Sutter and drove him head-first into the mat for the win.

After the match, KM and Sienna ran out and joined in on beating Sutter while Van Ness forced Allie to watch. Mahabali Shera ran out to make the save. Sutter challenged KM and Kong to a tag match next week.

– McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Karen Jarrett. She announced that next week Eddie Edwards & Alisha will face Davey Richards & Angelina Love. Magnus showed up and pushed her out of the way.

James Storm defeated Ethan Carter III by DQ

Magnus joined the announcers on commentary for the match. Storm brought a leather strap to the ring. They brawled until EC3 took over and controlled the match. Storm made a comeback and they brawled on the floor. Storm grabbed the leather strap, but Magnus stopped him. Bruce Prichard ran out and sent Magnus to the back.

During the commercial, EC3 jumped Storm from behind as Magnus was ejected from ringside. EC3 hit the TK3 and brought in the strap. EC3 knocked down referee Brian Stiffler and viciously whipped him with the belt for the DQ.

James Storm attacked EC3 and set up for the Last Call when Magnus ran back out and attacked Storm. Magnus and EC3 argued until Prichard ran back out. He announced a three-way number one contender’s match for next week. EC3 knocked him down to end the segment.

– A Rockstar Spud rehabbing video aired. Doctors told him to retire, but he will defy their orders and return next week.

GFW Global Women’s Champion Sienna (w/ KM) defeated ODB to retain her title

Sienna mocked ODB but missed a splash in the corner and ODB took over. Sienna yanked ODB off the turnbuckle and hit the Silencer to retain the title.

– Jeremy Borash came out to the ring, which infuriated Mathews. J.B. hired an attorney and announced that he has been reinstated effective immediately. J.B. introduced his attorney — the returning Joseph Park.

Mathews pointed out that Park is Abyss and called him an idiot. Park challenged Mathews to find a partner to face him and J.B. at Slammiversary. Mathews left and J.B. was now on commentary.

X Division Champion Low Ki defeated Trevor Lee (w/ Gregory Shane Helms) and Andrew Everett in Ultimate X to retain his title

This was one of Impact’s best main events in a long time. Low Ki and Everett fought on the apron and Lee shoved them both off into the guardrail. Everett nailed a springboard shooting star press to the floor on Lee.

Lee brought in a chair, but Low Ki punched it back into Lee’s face and injured his hand in the process. Due to the injured hand, Low Ki struggled to grab the cable several times. Lee caught Low Ki and executed a German suplex, but Low Ki landed on his feet and hit a double foot stomp on Lee.

Low Ki tried to climb up again, but his hand was still hurting. Everett knocked off Low Ki, then Helms hit a neckbreaker off the top on Everett. Lee stood on Helms’ shoulders and they tried walking across. Low Ki took them both out with a kick.

Low Ki still couldn’t grab the cable because of his injured hand from punching the chair. So he climbed above the cable and onto the X structure surrounding it and crawled to the center. At the same time, Lee and Everett climbed the cable to the center. Low Ki knocked them both off and grabbed the belt to retain.

Next Week: James Storm, Ethan Carter III, and Magnus face off in a three-way number one contender’s match. Braxton Sutter & Mahabali Shera vs. KM & Kongo Kong will take place as well. Also, Eddie Edwards & Alisha face Davey Richards & Angelina Love in a mixed tag.
