Mr. Brodie Lee wins TNT title on AEW Dynamite

Mr. Brodie Lee is the new AEW TNT champion.

Lee defeated Cody on tonight’s episode of Dynamite, pinning him with a discus lariat in a short match. Lee cut a promo putting over himself and the Dark Order as medics came to stretcher out Cody, who hadn’t moved since being pinned. Lee said that with the TNT title, he now had all of the power in AEW.

As Cody was being stretchered out on the ramp, he gave a thumbs up signal to say he was okay. The Dark Order then intercepted the medics, blocking their path to the backstage area. Arn Anderson, Cody’s manager, decided to fight back, but was quickly taken out.

The rest of the Dark Order arrived, dragging QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes out on stage. Lee laid out Cody with a loaded stachel. Brandi Rhodes came out to shield her husband from any further attack, but Anna Jay of the Dark Order choked her out.

The show ended with Lee dumping out the contents of the satchel, which was revealed to be the remnants of the old TNT championship.

Cody, the first TNT champion, had held the championship for 91 days, defeating Lance Archer in a tournament final to become the first champion back at Double or Nothing on May 23.

Three matches added to next week’s AEW Dynamite

An updated lineup was revealed for next week’s episode of Dynamite.

A TNT title match was set, as Cody will defend the title against Scorpio Sky of SCU. Sky and Cody exchanged some words as Cody was heading to the back following a match on tonight’s show.

Next week’s edition of Dynamite will serve as Tag Team Appreciation Night. Jurassic Express will take on AEW World Tag Team champions Kenny Omega & Hangman Page, while Stu Grayson & Evil Uno of the Dark Order will take on The Young Bucks.

As part of Tag Team Appreciation Night, there will be appearances by Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, and The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express.

Additionally, the match between Orange Cassidy and Chris Jericho is now a $7,000 obligation match. If Orange Cassidy loses, he must pay $7,000 for the jacket he ruined when he poured orange juice on the Inner Circle.

This week’s Dynamite featured a debate between Cassidy and Jericho, with Eric Bischoff serving as a special guest moderator. Cassidy won the debate, but was laid out by Jericho and Jake Hager.

Ricky Starks signs with AEW, answers Cody’s TNT title challenge

Former NWA TV Champion Ricky Starks has signed with AEW following him answering Cody’s TNT title challenge on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

After Cody talked about last week’s assault from Jake Hager, his manager Arn Anderson said that he had an opponent for Cody, someone who would be a good test.

A video package then aired featuring Starks who positioned himself as one of the hottest free agents in pro wrestling. After a back and forth match, Cody retained the championship following the Crossroads.

After Dynamite ended, Tony Khan announced that Starks had signed with the promotion with Starks confirming he signed soon after. On Wednesday’s WOR, Dave Meltzer reported that the decision to sign Starks came during the match and that a program has already been set up for him.

After being signed to the NWA since last August, Starks left after his contract with the company expired earlier this year. They haven’t run any shows since the pandemic began.

He won the NWA TV title at Hard Times back in January, defeating Trevor Murdoch in the finals. He lost the championship to Zicky Dice in March and also competed in the NWA National title tournament.

Cody to defend AEW TNT title every week, Jungle Boy wins battle royal

Jungle Boy will be the first to challenge Cody for the TNT championship next week.

The final four participants in tonight’s battle royal were Wardlow, MJF, Jungle Boy, and Orange Cassidy. The latter two managed to eliminate MJF and Wardlow, leaving them by themselves. After a back and forth battle, Jungle Boy sent Orange Cassidy to the floor with a hurricanrana, holding on to the ropes for the win.

Jungle Boy will be Cody’s first opponent for the championship. Cody came out for an interview on tonight’s show and said that going forward, he’ll be defending the championship each and every week in an open challenge.

Along with the TNT championship match, the Tag Team titles will also be on the line as Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc will face Hangman Page & Kenny Omega, where the winners will face Best Friends at Fyter Fest sometime this summer. Chris Jericho will also be in action.

Mike Tyson to appear on AEW Dynamite this week

Mike Tyson is returning to AEW programming this Wednesday.

AEW confirmed on their social media this afternoon that Mike Tyson will appear on Dynamite this Wednesday. It wasn’t made clear what his role will be.

Tyson was a part of AEW Double or Nothing on Saturday, where he was set to present the winner of the Cody/Lance Archer TNT title match with the new championship. He sat at ringside while the two fought in the finals of a tournament to crown the first ever champion.

Towards the end of the match, Cody’s coach Arn Anderson got involved, causing Lance Archer to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle. This caused a second referee to come to ringside and tell the first referee about what Anderson did. Anderson was ejected from the match, allowing Archer’s manager Jake Roberts to come out with a snake.

Once Tyson saw what Roberts was doing, however, he ripped off his shirt and confronted Roberts. This allowed Cody to pick up the win and the championship.

Battle royal announced for next week’s AEW Dynamite

A battle royal has been announced for next week’s AEW Dynamite.

It was announced prior to the main event of tonight’s show that a battle royal will take place on next week’s show with the winner receiving a TNT title match in two weeks on the June 3rd Dynamite.

The first TNT champion will be crowned at Saturday’s Double or Nothing and Mike Tyson will present the winner of Cody vs. Lance Archer with the championship. The two had a brawl on last week’s Dynamite as Cody attacked Archer after Archer’s manager, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, put a snake on Brandi Rhodes.

Archer ended up laying out Cody, but was stopped by Roberts before any more damage was taken.

Roberts, as well as Cody’s head coach Arn Anderson, appeared this week on Dynamite and exchanged words regarding the match. The segment ended when Anderson threatened to give Roberts a spinebuster at Double or Nothing.
