Tag Team title unification match set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

A title unification match for both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team titles has been set for next week’s SmackDown.

The end of tonight’s show saw The Usos accept the demand from RKO that they accept a title unification match. The show closed with Riddle striking Roman Reigns with a knee to the face, then retreating to the back.

The two teams were originally set to unify the titles at WWE WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday. However, during the contract signing, Roman Reigns came out and destroyed the contract, helping the Usos in beating down RK-Bro. Drew McIntyre made the save, setting up a six-man match in place of the title unification match. Reigns defeated Riddle to pick up the win for the Bloodline.

On Raw the following Monday, RK-Bro said they would be at SmackDown on Friday. When they arrived to the show tonight, Sami Zayn came out and told them to go back to Raw. Eventually, a match between Zayn and Riddle was made, with Riddle picking up the win.

The Usos challenge RK-Bro to Tag Team title unification match on WWE Raw

The Usos challenged RK-Bro to a tag team title unification match on tonight’s Raw.

After RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle) defeated Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis), The Usos arrived in the arena and went to confront RK-Bro. They officially challenged RK-Bro to a title unification match. Before RK-Bro could give a definitive answer, The Street Profits came out and said the Usos were trying to jump the line. Randy Orton interrupted the arguing between the two teams, saying he would rather like to see them fight than talk. A match between The Usos and the Street Profits then took place, with The Usos scoring the win.

Following the match, the two teams posed with their titles. The Usos exited, and as RK-Bro watched them go up the ramp, The Street Profits attacked RK-Bro. The distraction allowed The Usos to come back into the ring and superkick RK-Bro, the show closing with them holding both sets of titles.

On Friday’s SmackDown, Roman Reigns told The Usos that he wanted them to be on Raw this coming Monday to challenge RK-Bro. He said that the next goal would be to unify both sets to titles to create the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.

WWE teases Raw and SmackDown Tag Team title unification

WWE ended tonight’s SmackDown teasing that the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team titles could end up being unified.

At the end of tonight’s show, Roman Reigns and The Usos came out. Roman said that he has taken over Raw and SmackDown now that he has the WWE Championship, and next on the list was The Usos having both sets of tag team titles. He ordered The Usos to go to Raw and unify the SmackDown titles with the Raw titles, which are currently held by RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle).

Shinsuke Nakamura then came out and confronted Reigns. Reigns told Nakamura that he understood how Nakamura was upset that his tag team partner Rick Boogz was out injured, as he lost Jimmy Uso to a knee injury for more than a year. Reigns offered, then gave Nakamura a hug. Amid the confusion, The Usos came in and superkicked Nakamura, leaving him lying on the floor as the show closed.

Announced for this Monday’s Raw:

  • Cody Rhodes vs. The Miz
  • AJ Styles vs. Damian Priest
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks & Naomi defend against Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan
  • Rey Mysterio vs. Veer Mahaan
  • The VIP Lounge with Omos

SmackDown Tag Team title match added to WWE WrestleMania 38

A match for the SmackDown Tag Team titles is set for WrestleMania 38.

Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs will challenge The Usos for the titles following an angle that took place on tonight’s SmackDown. Boogs defeated Jey Uso in a match that gave him and Nakamura the opportunity to challenge for the titles.

Boogs and Nakamura interrupted The Usos on tonight’s show, with Boogs saying they were the next SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Jimmy brought to attention Boogs’ knee injury. He told Boogs that if he could beat Jey Uso in a match, he and Nakamura would get the title shot. Boogs proceeded to reveal that the injury was a ruse once the bell rang and quickly defeated Jey. After the match, Jimmy attacked Boogs with Boogs’ own guitar.

SmackDown Tag Team title match set for WWE Elimination Chamber

The SmackDown Tag Team titles will be on the line at this month’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

WWE has announced that The Usos will defend their SmackDown Tag Team titles against The Viking Raiders at the Elimination Chamber on Saturday, February 19. The PPV is taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Viking Raiders became the number one contenders to The Usos’ titles by winning a fatal four-way match on SmackDown last month. They defeated Los Lotharios, Cesaro & Mansoor, and Jinder Mahal & Shanky.

The Usos have been SmackDown Tag Team Champions since winning the titles from Rey & Dominik Mysterio on the Money in the Bank pre-show last July.

Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode are the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

On SmackDown tonight, Ziggler & Roode defeated The Street Profits to win the SmackDown Tag Team titles. Ziggler & Roode got the win after hitting a spinebuster into a Zig-Zag on Montez Ford.

In storyline, Ford’s leg was hurt going into the match after Ziggler & Roode attacked The Street Profits during their “New Year’s Day Smoke-Tacular” on SmackDown last week. Ziggler & Roode used a steel chair on both Ford & Angelo Dawkins during the attack and hit Ford’s leg with a chair as it was up against the ring post.

Ford struggled to get to his feet after tonight’s match and Dawkins tried to help him. Ziggler & Roode attacked The Street Profits and knocked them out of the ring. Ziggler & Roode then celebrated with the SmackDown Tag Team titles.

The Street Profits had retained the SmackDown Tag Team titles against Ziggler & Roode three weeks ago when Ford rolled up Roode while holding onto his tights. Roode previously did the same thing to Ford to win a non-title match.

The Street Profits had been Raw Tag Team Champions prior to swapping titles with The New Day’s Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods when the teams switched brands in October’s WWE Draft.

Ziggler & Roode are using the Dirty Dawgs as their tag team name.

A second title match has been added to the lineup for next week’s episode of SmackDown.

On this week’s Talking Smack, it was announced that SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits will defend their titles against Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode next Friday (January 8). Big E defending his Intercontinental title against Apollo Crews is also set for next Friday’s SmackDown.

The Street Profits retained their titles against Ziggler & Roode on SmackDown two weeks ago when Montez Ford rolled up Roode while holding onto his tights. Roode had done the same thing to Ford when Ziggler & Roode defeated The Street Profits in a non-title match in November.

Last night’s SmackDown saw The Street Profits host their “New Year’s Day Smoke-Tacular.” They made fun of Ziggler during the segment and were about to make fun of Roode, but Ziggler & Roode then attacked The Street Profits. They used a steel chair to attack both Ford & Angelo Dawkins, including hitting Ford’s leg with a steel chair as his leg was up against the ring post.

Ziggler & Roode were interviewed backstage after the attack. They demanded another shot at the SmackDown Tag Team titles. It was said on today’s Talking Smack that The Street Profits have accepted Ziggler & Roode’s challenge and the match will take place on SmackDown next Friday.

New Day, Street Profits swap WWE Raw & SmackDown Tag Team titles

The men’s WWE Tag Team title situation regarding both sets of champions was made clear in a segment tonight on Raw.

During tonight’s show, WWE official Adam Pearce met with Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods, the SmackDown Tag Team champions who were drafted to Raw, and The Street Profits, Raw Tag Team champions who were drafted to SmackDown. Pearce said he cleared it with WWE and the solution to the problem was to exchange titles — The Street Profits would be recognized as the SmackDown Tag Team champions and vice versa. The two teams agreed, and the switch was made.

The New Day were drafted during the first night of the draft on SmackDown this past Friday. Both Kingston and Woods returned that night, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro to win the SmackDown Tag team titles. However, it was announced immediately after that title match that Kingston and Woods were being drafted to Raw, while Big E would stay SmackDown, splitting the trio apart for the first time since 2014.

SmackDown tag team title match set for WWE Crown Jewel

A SmackDown tag team title match has been added to next week’s Crown Jewel event.

The New Day will have a chance to recapture the titles as they will face The Bar in a rematch from last week’s SmackDown. The finish to that match had The Big Show come out and attack the New Day, which allowed The Bar to pick up the win and the titles.

It was then announced tonight on SmackDown that The New Day would get their rematch at Crown Jewel. A match between Kofi Kingston and Big Show followed. Show dominated, laying out Kingston with three chokeslams. He was going for a fourth when the rest of the New Day came in and attacked Big Show for the DQ. However, they were no match for the new trio, as they were quickly laid out.

Crown Jewel is scheduled to take place on November 2 at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

SmackDown Tag Team title match set for WWE Hell in a Cell

The SmackDown tag team title match for Hell in a Cell has been set.

On tonight’s episode of SmackDown, Rusev Day (Rusev & Aiden English) defeated The Bar (Cesaro & Sheamus) to earn the right to compete against The New Day this Sunday. The finish had Sheamus setting up for the Brogue kick. Aiden English, sensing what was about to happen, pushed Rusev out of the way and took the kick. In the confusion, Rusev used the opportunity to strike Sheamus with the machka kick and pinned him to score the win for his team.

There had been a mini-tournament over the last few weeks to determine a number one contender for the titles. Rusev Day defeated SAnitY and The Usos in a triple threat tag team match, while The Bar defeated The Colons and Anderson & Gallows ahead of tonight’s match.

Hell in a Cell will take place this Sunday at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

SmackDown tag team title match set for WWE WrestleMania 34

Another multi-man match has been set for WrestleMania 34, this time a triple threat match for the Smackdown tag team titles.

It was made official tonight that the Usos will defend their titles against The New Day and the Bludgeon Brothers in a triple threat match. The New Day and The Usos have been feuding over the titles for the last year, trading the titles back and forth. But the Bludgeon Brothers have made it known that they are interested in the titles as well, and have destroyed everyone in their path since their return. The match was made after the Usos ran down during a Bludgeon Brothers/New Day match that ended with both Usos and The New Day standing tall.

Here is the current card for WrestleMania 34, now with 13 matches:

  • Triple H and Stephanie McMahon vs. Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey
  • Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal title
  • AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE title
  • Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon vs.. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
  • The Miz vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor for the Intercontinental title
