Samoa Joe explains why he didn’t appear at Impact Slammiversary

At Sunday night’s Slammiversary pay-per-view, there were appearances by several names from TNA/Impact Wrestling’s past in celebration of the promotion’s 20th anniversary.

Those appearances included AJ Styles, Sting, and Kurt Angle sending in video messages that aired on the PPV. All three mentioned working with Samoa Joe as highlights of their time with Impact, but Joe didn’t appear at Slammiversary in any capacity.

In a tweet on Monday morning, Joe explained that he wasn’t asked to appear at Slammiversary — nor was he available to appear. Joe wished Impact a happy anniversary and sent his best wishes to the company going forward.

“Dearest cackling hens. I wasn’t asked, or available, and it should not mar a great milestone set by Impact,” Joe tweeted. “Happy Anniversary, and my best going forward to all involved.”

Joe was also referenced in the main event of Slammiversary when Impact World Champion Josh Alexander did Joe’s face wash and running boot spot against Eric Young.

Joe is a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion, X-Division Champion, Tag Team Champion, and Television Champion.

Joe is currently signed to AEW and holds the ROH Television Championship. He was released by WWE this January, marking the second time he had been let go by WWE within a nine-month period.

It was revealed earlier this month that Joe will be playing a role in Peacock’s upcoming “Twisted Metal” series.

Mickie James to be special guest enforcer at Impact Slammiversary

Though she won’t be wrestling at the pay-per-view, Mickie James will be playing a role at Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary 2022.

James announced during an appearance on the Battleground Podcast that she’ll be the special guest enforcer for the first-ever Queen of the Mountain match at Slammiversary. The PPV is taking place in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday, June 19.

The Queen of the Mountain match will see Tasha Steelz defend her Knockouts World Championship against Deonna Purrazzo, Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, and Jordynne Grace.

James brought up during her Battleground Podcast appearance that she has history with Steelz, Purrazzo, and Green. James said that, in addition to making sure the match is fair, she wants to make sure whoever wins is on notice. James said she always has her eyes on the prize.

James lost the Knockouts title to Steelz at Sacrifice this March.

This year’s Slammiversary is Impact Wrestling’s 20th anniversary celebration. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

Jack Evans return, ten-man tag team match added to Impact Slammiversary

For the first time since 2018, Jack Evans will return to Impact Wrestling.

Evans was announced Thursday as joining the six-way Ultimate X match for the X-Division title at this month’s Slammiversary pay-per-view.

Evans, who saw his AEW contract not get renewed earlier this year, last appeared for Impact in 2018 in a four-way match, his third overall for the promotion.

The match currently includes X-Division Champion Ace Austin, Evans, former champion Trey Miguel, Kenny King and “Speedball” Mike Bailey with one spot left to fill.

Additionally, a ten-man tag team match was made as Honor No More will take on another group of Impact Originals as their feud rages on.

It was made after the HNM faction attacked Rhino’s ankle following he and Heath’s tag team match against Matt Taven and Mike Bennett Thursday. Frankie Kazarian and the Motor City Machine Guns ran out for the save and later demanded a match to VP Scott D’Amore.

It will be Bennett, Taven, Eddie Edwards, PCO and Vincent against Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Kazarian and two mystery men.

The multi-person match came down to Young and Chris Sabin, who was the first entrant. Sabin wore down and was pinned by Young following a piledriver.

Young is a former two-time Impact World Champion with his last run ending in 2020 after just 53 days.

Impact World Champion Josh Alexander will defend his title at next month’s Slammiversary, but he doesn’t know against who yet.

The challenger will be determined on Thursday’s Impact on AXS in a Gauntlet for the Gold match.

Alexander is coming off his second successful title defense at last Saturday’s Under Siege as he got the win over NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii. Alexander also picked up a victory over former champion Moose less than a week after he defeated him for the title at April’s Rebellion.

Also announced for Slammiversary: X-Division Champion Ace Austin will defend his title in an Ultimate X match.

The last such match took place at last month’s Multiverse of Matches when then-champion Trey Miguel defended the title against Blake Christian, Chris Bey, Jordynne Grace, Rich Swann and Vincent.

Austin defeated Miguel in a three-way at Rebellion to regain the title.

Thursday will see the first qualifying match as Chris Bey takes on Kenny King.

Impact Wrestling announces Slammiversary pay-per-view for June 19

Impact Wrestling announced the date and location for their next pay-per-view event, Slammiversary.

The company will return to pay-per-view on June 19 for Slammiversary, which will celebrate 20 years of Impact Wrestling, dating back to the first NWA-TNA pay-per-view event that was held on that very day in 2002. It will be held in Nashville, Tennessee. A specific venue has not been announced. Tickets for the show will be put on sale this coming Friday on Impact Wrestling’s website.

Starting out as NWA Total Nonstop Action, the company held their first pay-per-view event on June 19, 2002, with Ken Shamrock winning the vacant NWA World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. TNA dropped the NWA branding in 2004, and later renamed themselves Impact Wrestling in 2017.

Top matches from last year’s Slammiversary include Kenny Omega defeating Sami Callihan to retain the Impact World Championship and Deonna Purrazzo defeating Thunder Rosa to retain the Impact Knockouts title.
