WWE confirms new name for LFG season two winner

Dani Raye Sekelsky — the female winner of WWE LFG season two — has officially gotten her NXT in-ring name.

The former NFL cheerleader will be going by the name “Skylar Raye” in her NXT career. WWE confirmed the news this afternoon after filing a trademark for that name earlier this week. Raye will be competing in the WWE Speed Women’s Championship tournament on NXT, where she has a matchup against Fallon Henley scheduled for the first round.

Zaria vs. Wren Sinclair is the other match in the four-woman tournament, which will determine a new Speed champion after the belt was vacated by Sol Ruca. Zaria vs. Sinclair kicks off the tournament tonight. Henley vs. Raye will then presumably happen next week.

Raye defeated Penina Tuilaepa (who is going by the name PJ Vasa in NXT) to win season two of WWE LFG. The series is a competition reality show on A&E that features WWE legends coaching teams of Performance Center recruits. Winners are elevated to the NXT roster.

WWE files trademark for new in-ring name

WWE made a new trademark filing this week for what looks to be the new in-ring name of a Performance Center recruit.

On November 3, WWE applied to trademark the term “Skylar Raye.” The application lists that the trademark is to cover goods and services related to pro wrestling performances — which is the standard language WWE uses in filing trademarks for wrestler names:

Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment

There has been no confirmation on who this trademark is for. One option could be WWE LFG season two winner Dani Sekelsky, who goes by the name Dani Raye. She has a background in cheerleading, captaining her team at Penn State and then going on to cheer for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL.

“Happy NXT Tuesday!,” Sekelsky wrote in an Instagram stories post today. “SKY is looking extra blue today.”
