One of the greatest tag teams of all time is coming to AEW for two appearances in January 2025.
AEW has announced that the legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) will return to Charlotte, North Carolina for the Saturday, January 4 episode of Collision. Morton & Gibson are then also set to appear in Knoxville, Tennessee for Dynamite on Wednesday, January 22.
The Collision show is being held at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, while the Knoxville Coliseum is hosting the Dynamite episode.
Morton & Gibson have made a couple of AEW appearances in the past, including angles where they were attacked by Santana & Ortiz in 2019 and FTR in 2020. Both Morton & Gibson still compete in indie matches. They are one of the most decorated teams ever with inductions into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 2014 and the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
January 4 will be the first Collision episode to be simulcast live on Max. The simulcast for Dynamite begins on New Year’s Day with its Fight for the Fallen special from Asheville, North Carolina.
Ricky & Kerry Morton will be a part of the Ric Flairâs Last Match card.
Starrcast announced tonight that the father and son team, with Robert Gibson in their corner representing the Rock ânâ Roll Express, will face Brian Pillman and Brock Anderson, with Arn Anderson in their corner. The latter team will be representing The Four Horsemen, with Brian Pillman Sr. & Arn Anderson being former members.

The team consisting of Morton and Robert Gibson formed in 1983 in the Memphis territory and also had a run in Mid South Wrestling before going to Jim Crockett Promotions in 1985, where they famously feuded with The Midnight Express. They have continually been a presence on the independent scene, recently working matches in New Japan Pro Wrestling and the latest incarnation of the National Wrestling Alliance, where they briefly held the NWA World Tag Team titles.
The Rock ânâ Roll Express are set to face FTR in Spartanburg, South Carolina on January 22 at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.
FTR and The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express will face off for the first time ever next month.
Big Time Wrestling announced today that a dream match between FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) and The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) will take place at their show in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Saturday, January 22. The show is being held at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.
FTR defeated Penta El Zero Miedo & PAC on AEW Rampage last week. On Saturday, FTR retained their AAA Tag Team titles against The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) in a ladder match at Triplemania Regia.

Tonight, in what had to be one of the most anticipated episodes of NWA Power, we saw The Rock ‘nâ Roll Express take on The Wild Cards for the NWA Tag Team titles. The show opened with a hype video for the match and the upcoming NWA Into the Fire PPV on Fite.
Joe Galli welcomed the fans to the season finale of NWA Power and thanked them for tuning in.
Before the first match, Aron Stevens came out with The Question Mark. Stevens wanted a shot at Colt Cabanaâs NWA National Championship. Cabana gave up his match with Ricky Starks and said that if Stevens could beat Starks, Cabana would give him a title shot. Stevens sent Question Mark to the back.
**********
Aron Stevens defeated Ricky Starks
Starks started the match by hitting a slingblade and a spear for a two count. Soon after, Stevens collapsed and held his knee. Question Mark came back out to check on Stevens — and Stevens distracted the referee while Question Mark hit the Mongrovian Spike on Starks for Stevens to get the win.

Galli announced that both competitors in the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship match at Into the Fire on December 14 would be able to pick their own referee for fall one and two, with a coin being flipped to determine the ref if it goes to a final fall.
A video aired with James Storm saying that it was killing Nick Aldis that Kamille whispered something to him and Aldis doesnât know what it was. Storm went on about how the NWA didnât want him to hold the National title and that the NWA is against him because they had several unaired segments with him.
Storm accused Aldis of ducking him, and then he named Brian Hebner as his referee.

A video of the stars of the NWA appearing at WrestleCade aired, including The Great Muta going face-to-face with Aldis and Question Mark with various shenanigans.

David Marquez interviewed Melina and she said that the women were merely the commercial break until she arrived. She said she brought out the best in people and that she knew that she could bring out the best in the other wrestlers in the NWA. Melina said that she was going to take the title from Allysin Kay. Kay came out and promised to take it to Melina.
Kay challenged her to a fight right now and went into the ring. Melina bailed out and walked away to the other side of the ring, then Marti Belle and Thunder Rosa ran out and attacked Kay. Melina walked into the ring slowly, directing the troops as Belle hit Kay with a Pedigree and left her laying in the middle of the ring.

The Rock ‘nâ Roll Express cut a promo about how they wanted to have one last run as NWA World Tag Team Champions.

Aldis talked about the triple threat number one contender’s match that did not air between Eli Drake, Ken Anderson, and James Storm. Aldis said that Storm inserted himself into the match because Drake and Anderson was a singles match. Aldis said âWe ainât in TNA anymore.â
Aldis asked âWhat have you done to earn your shot at this title?â He said that the triple threat was a disaster with interference, and the NWA didnât even recognize it.
So why was James Storm getting a title shot? Because Aldis asked for it. He said the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and Storm is the squeakiest wheel he’s ever met. Aldis said he was going to drown him in the grease. He said the only way that Storm was going to realize that he didnât want this was by Aldis giving him exactly what he wanted and making him regret it.
Aldis talked about how he had experience in this type of match, as he won the title back from Cody in two-out-of-three falls. Aldis then named Tim Storm as his referee. Holy crap, this was unbelievably great.
The interviewer then asked about Kamille. Aldis was visibly bothered and said again âIf you donât see Kamille by my side, her actions are her own.â Aldis said that all this questioning has made Kamille ineffective, that he was giving Kamille the night off at Into the Fire, and that he didnât want James Storm to have anything to complain about.
Aldis and James Storm both cut money promos here, but Aldis was still on another level. Aldis has become one of the best promos in wrestling right now, and I believed every word he said. How Impact missed on this guy as the foundation of the company blows my mind.

The Rock ‘nâ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) defeated The Wild Cards (Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs) to win the NWA Tag Team titles
Morton started the match with Latimer, and Latimer drove Morton to the mat with a shoulder block. Morton tagged out to Gibson and they hit a double shoulder tackle to a big pop.
Gibson hit an elbow to Isaacs and Latimer tagged out to him so he could get revenge. Isaacs broke out of a full nelson, then dodged a corner charge that sent Gibson into the corner post.
Isaacs started to get the heat on Gibson and tagged out to Latimer to continue the attack. Latimer and Isaacs worked over the shoulder and wrapped Gibson up in the ropes. Latimer went for a splash, but Gibson moved and Latimer crashed head-first into the corner. Gibson tagged out to Morton — and he ran wild, locking the sleeper on Isaacs.
Latimer broke the sleeper, but Gibson and Morton managed to hit the double dropkick on Latimer. Isaacs broke it up and threw Morton to ringside. Latimer grabbed Gibson. Isaacs went for a shot on him, but Gibson dodged and Isaacs crashed into Latimer.
Morton came back in and rolled up Isaacs and pinned him — so The Rock ‘nâ Roll Express became nine-time NWA World Tag Team Champions!
This was a very fun tag match. Gibson and Morton are still very good despite their age, and this was a wonderful feel-good story. After the match, Jim Cornette came into the ring and celebrated with them. Galli then thanked Cornette for his contributions to the NWA, and I am not sure if that was the wisest thing to do.
**********
Aldis closed the show by announcing the man that would replace Cornette on the broadcast team, saying that it might be considered bad news for some, as Stu Bennett (formerly Wade Barrett in WWE) joined the NWA commentary team.
This was a very solid go-home show for the NWA. I question the wisdom of the little tribute they did for Cornette, despite Cornetteâs skill as a performer, because of all the controversy surrounding him.
A Tag Team title match will air on the episode, with The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express attempting to become nine-time NWA Tag Team Champions as they take on The Wild Cards (Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs).
NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis will defend his title against James Storm in a two-out-of-three falls match at Into the Fire on December 14. We’ll hear from Aldis and Storm tonight, and both will choose a referee for their title match at the pay-per-view.
The challenger for Colt Cabana’s NWA National Championship at Into the Fire will also be revealed on tonight’s show.
With him resigning after the offensive comment he made on commentary on the NWA Power episode that aired two weeks ago, tonight’s Power will be the last one called by Jim Cornette. The NWA wrote: “We thank Jim for his support of the National Wrestling Alliance in Season 1, and his over thirty plus years with the organization. His call of the Rock N Roll Express match is an exemplary display of his many talents, and we wish Jim nothing but the best moving forward.”
The NWA will announce who is joining the broadcast team at Into the Fire at the end of tonight’s episode.
New episodes of Power will resume airing on December 17.
AEW is set to crown its inaugural Tag Team Champions next week, and a Hall of Fame team will be playing a part in the process.
It was announced today that The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) will be appearing on next week’s episode of Dynamite. They’ll present the AEW Tag Team titles to the winners of the promotion’s Tag Team Championship tournament.
The Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) are facing SoCal Uncensored (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) in the Tag Team title tournament finals on Dynamite next Wednesday. The episode is taking place at the Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, West Virginia.
To get to the finals, Pentagon Jr. & Fenix defeated Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt) in the first round of the tournament and Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy) in the semifinals. Sky & Kazarian defeated Best Friends (Trenta Barreta & Chuck Taylor) and The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson).
Sky replaced Christopher Daniels in the tournament after an angle where SCU were attacked by The Lucha Bros right before their match against Best Friends.
ROH was at the Nashville Fairgrounds Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday for their Honor for All event that streamed live on HonorClub. Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were the announce team for the night.
The Bouncers (Brawler Milonas & Beer City Bruiser) defeated Felino & Okumura and Coast 2 Coast (LSG & Shaheem Ali) in a three-way tag team match
Okumura and Felino were fun to watch in this, especially Felino when heâd work with The Bouncers. On commentary, Riccaboni mentioned how he thought heâd seen one of Dalton Castleâs ex-Boys watching this match in the wings. Riccaboni did an excellent job introducing the television crowd to both Felino and Okumura when they were in the ring.
For some reason, the crowd was absolutely dead at points in this. Theyâd come alive for big spots and some comedy spots. The Bouncers hit Closing Time (Smoking Gunnsâ Sidewinder) on Ali for the win, then The Bouncers and the CMLL team shared beers afterwards.
– ROH announced that the ROH Six-Man Tag Team title match between Villain Enterprises and LifeBlood was off due to PCOâs injury from the night before. PCO smashed his face on the floor when he âmalfunctionedâ and did a tope to the wrong side of the ring.
PCO then came to the ring and the crowd erupted. It was like a completely different crowd in the building — they sure liked PCO. He started throwing chairs into the ring and shoved people around the ringside area.
PCO grabbed the mic. ROH security came to the ring, so PCO took everyone out by himself. After all of that, he put the last crew member through a table with a cannonball senton from the top rope to the floor.
Flip Gordon came out and PCO pushed him until Gordon could remind him who he was, that he was part of Villain Enterprises. He showed PCO his T-shirt and then PCO âsnapped out of it,â but PCO kept selling his head like he was a confused, brainwashed monster. With the giant gash over his eye and forehead, PCO really does look like Frankenstein.
Joe Hendry & Dalton Castle defeated Cheeseburger & Eli Isom
Castle grabbed the microphone before the match and said that he usually sleeps 16 hours a night, but last night he could only sleep eight hours because he kept thinking about what happened between him and the most recent addition to ROHâs roster, Joe Hendry.
Like we mentioned at Saturday Night at Center Stage, Hendry sings his new ROH theme song and even made a music video to go along with it, which has lyrics that go âI believe in Joe Hendryâ and cues in the video to the audience to sway back and forth like youâd see at an Amy Grant concert in 1994.
Itâs hard to get Hendryâs theme song out of my head. The two went back and forth while Isom stood in the corner. They argued about Saturday night, with Castle explaining that Hendry probably didnât really understand what Castle is capable of, so he invited him to take a seat in the front row and watch him kick the crap out of Isom.
Hendry explained that he understood just fine and that he is more entertaining than Castle. His new catchphrase is actually more of a melody, where he screams his name and then sings âSo prestigious.â The crowd didnât sing along tonight and Castle called him on it later, explaining that he was the âcumin in this curryâ and that without Castle, âthis place would taste disgusting.â
Hendry offered to wrestle Isom instead of Castle and told him to sit and watch as he showed the crowd how good he was. Isom finally pushed both apart and grabbed the mic and pretty much told them to stop bickering and grow up. He then challenged both Castle and Hendry to a tag team match against him and his trainer, Cheeseburger.
Hendry tried really hard to get the crowd to do the âSo prestigiousâ thing. Riccaboni put both Castle and Hendry over for their amateur wrestling backgrounds.
Castle and Eli Isom were good together when they were in the ring. Hendry did a delayed vertical suplex to Cheeseburger and did the arm-swaying gesture with one arm. He and Castle argued for a while so Cheeseburger could crawl away and tag out to Isom, who tore through both guys for a minute until the match fell to the floor.
Castle and Hendry inadvertently saved each other from Isom and Cheeseburger outside the ring, then argued some more until Isom landed a moonsault from the corner to the outside. Momentum shifted quickly, though. When Castle went for the Bang-a-Rang on Isom, Hendry pulled Isom off and hit a Codebreaker on him to win the match. Castle complained that he could have done it as Hendry smirked his way to the back.
This angle is interesting, but itâs ironic that of all promotions, Ring of Honor is the one with a new program centered on who’s more entertaining than who, making it feel like a polished WWE or TNA segment. Itâs too soon to tell whether itâll pan out, but for tonight I think it was fine. And Hendryâs theme is still stuck in my head, unfortunately.
Angelina Love defeated Jenny Rose, Sumie Sakai, and Damaris Dawkins in a four-way match
Kelly Klein joined Riccaboni and Coleman on commentary for this next match. This was Dawkinsâ ROH debut. Riccaboni mentioned that a few members of her family were professional boxers from the Philadelphia area and that sheâs been mentored by Sumie Sakai and Cheeseburger at the Worldwide Dojo in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
Love cut a promo in the ring saying that she didnât feel like she needed to be in the match because sheâd pinned Klein at Best in the World and already beat Sakai the night before in Atlanta. When The Allure tried heading to the back, Dawkins and Rose chased after them and threw them back in the ring and the match was on.
Dawkins was okay but green. When she was in with Sakai she looked better. They did a four-way headscissors submission spot. Love tried sneaking a chair in the ring, and while the ref was distracted, Mandy Leon sprayed Sakai in the face with perfume and neutralized her out of the match. Love then hit the Botox Injection running kick on Dawkins to win.
The lights went out and then Maria Manic was standing in the ring. The Allure ran to the back while Manic did a double-handed chokeslam to Dawkins and then took out Rose after sheâd laid in a few elbows.
Klein left the broadcast area and confronted Manic in the ring. When Klein tossed her Women of Honor title belt to the canvas, Love snuck into the ring, grabbed the belt, and knocked Klein out from behind with it. Manic then chased The Allure to the back while Klein sold the belt shot in the ring.
PJ Black defeated Silas Young (w/ Josh Woods)
Woods is acting as Silas Youngâs assistant since Saturday night. Young yelled at Woods for not being in the right spots he needed to be in when Young wanted to cheat. Woods said his shoes were untied. âSafety first,â Woods said.
This is the third singles match Iâve seen between these two in the past month or two. The only real differences were that Black finally got a win and the Woods angle. Woods kept teasing like heâd go after Black but was conflicted. Riccaboni put him over as a nice guy. Moments later, Black won out of nowhere with a cradle.
Young berated Woods after the match and told him to âbe a heel.â
– The Bouncers joined the broadcast team and brought beers for Coleman and Riccaboni. Both ROH announcers declined the offer but all four toasted. The Bouncers grabbed the two extra beers for themselves.
Rush defeated Vinny Marseglia
This wasnât bad. Rush was great and this was one of the best matches Iâve seen from Marseglia.
Rush kicked up the tempo of this early on. He tried hard to get the crowd into it, but this place sounded empty. Marseglia landed a cutter on the floor and started beating on him. He whipped Rush into the barricade. Back in the ring, he choked Rush with his handkerchief.
Rush fired back up and swore at Marseglia in Spanish. Aside from Riccaboni, the commentary was really bad during this. Marseglia was bleeding from the nose or lip towards the end of the match and he started licking his blood before Rush hit the Bullâs Horns dropkick to win.
Rush stepped on Marsegliaâs face and posed before he left.
ROH TV Champion Shane Taylor defeated Chase Owens to retain his title
This was good. Owens won a qualifying match in Atlanta over PJ Black and LSG for the title shot here. Heâs a really smooth wrestler, itâs a shame we donât see him in more singles matches.
Taylor is another one whoâs been underrated this year, especially when it comes to being able to trash talk and sound intimidating on the fly, it feels organic. Taylor got the win with Greetings from 216.
ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe) defeated The Rock ânâ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) to retain their titles
This had no business being as good as it was. It was short but had so much energy youâd think you just got out of a time machine. I can’t believe even for one millisecond I was duped into thinking The Rock ânâ Roll Express would actually win. Impressed.
The crowd woke up for The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express before the match got started. There were lots of âRock ânâ Rollâ chants but also a good number of âMan upâ chants in support of The Briscoes.
Morton and Jay Briscoe were in together. Morton was great, really. Not exaggerating. I mean heâs not Will Ospreay or something, but considering all the variables, he was great. Morton didnât have to do all that much because The Briscoes are so good. The crowd sounded completely different here than from the other matches.
The teams started brawling on the floor and eventually Mark Briscoe went to do a Froggy Bow to Morton through a table, but Gibson pushed him off and Mark flipped through the table. When The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express hit the double dropkick on Jay, both Coleman and Riccaboni authentically sounded like theyâd lost it. Coleman was shrieking.
Things settled for a second after Jay kicked out and then Mark eventually landed a Froggy Bow on Morton to win. They all shook hands after the match.
Villain Enterprises (Brody King & Marty Scurll) defeated LifeBlood (Bandido & Mark Haskins)
Scurll played the relentless heel role. Him and Haskins have very good chemistry. Haskins used a Boston crab on Scurll, who was lying on top of King. Scurll later got the whole crowd going wild before he was about to do the chicken wing spot, but Haskins blocked the attempt with a leg lariat.
When Bandido went to catch King off the ropes, he dropped him. The whole spot fell apart. They recovered quickly when Haskins and Bandido forced the double tope suicida to the floor. The Villain Enterprises team used some really cool double-team moves, innovative kind of things.
The last half of this match saw everyone exchange huge moves for about five minutes until Bandido hit the 21-Plex and Haskins followed up with his modified Sharpshooter to tap Scurll. LifeBlood will get a shot at The Briscoes’ ROH Tag Team titles.
Jeff Cobb defeated ROH World Champion Matt Taven, Kenny King (w/ Amy Rose), and Jay Lethal in a Defy or Deny match
The stipulation for Defy or Deny matches is that — if the champion doesn’t win — the winner will get a future shot at their title. If the champion wins, whoever is eliminated last can’t challenge for their title as long as they’re champion.
This started off really similar to the Defy or Deny match in Portland back in June with Taven talking trash at his three opponents and then getting beat up. Him and King were in first. Lethal and Cobb were good together and Cobb even attempted a cartwheel into a standing moonsault. Later he ragdolled Taven across the ring.
Taven and King formed a brief truce until King schoolboyed Taven. They started arguing and then Lethal decked King. Cobb later caught King off the ropes in a vertical suplex hold. King countered with an inside cradle.
Taven hit Cobb with the ROH World title and got disqualified. King then hit Lethal with the belt and used the Royal Flush to eliminate Lethal. After another few minutes, Cobb destroyed King with a snap German suplex and then planted him into the mat with Tour of the Islands to win the match. Cobb is now in line for a shot at the ROH World Championship.
Final thoughts —
The in-ring work was decent from beginning to end. The show was definitely stronger in the last 90 minutes or so, and while the crowd was enthusiastic in general, the low draw was audibly noticeable and made for an awkward presentation at times.
I donât believe Iâm saying this, but The Rock ânâ Roll Express had the most exciting match of the show with their bout with The Briscoes. Cobb winning tonightâs main event means weâll see another shot at Taven for him coming soon. The next ROH shows will be their joint events with CMLL, the Global Wars Espectacular tour that begins on September 6 in Dearborn, Michigan.
A Hall of Fame tag team is set to challenge for the ROH Tag titles later this month.
ROH announced today that The Briscoes (Jay & Mark) will defend their titles against The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) at Honor for All in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday, August 25. The show is taking place at the Nashville Fairgrounds Sports Arena and will air live on HonorClub.
The Briscoes vs. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express is a rematch from this year’s Crockett Cup. The Briscoes defeated Morton & Gibson in the first round of the tournament.
The Briscoes won the ROH Tag Team titles by defeating Guerrillas of Destiny in a New York City street fight at Manhattan Mayhem in July. A rematch then took place at Summer Supercard last Friday, with The Briscoes retaining in a Ladder War.
Here’s the updated lineup for Honor for All:
ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll, PCO & Brody King) defending against LifeBlood (Bandido, Mark Haskins & Tracy Williams)
ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes defending against The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express
ROH World Champion Matt Taven vs. Jay Lethal vs. Jeff Cobb vs. Kenny King in a Defy or Deny elimination match (If Taven doesn’t win, the winner will get a future shot at his title. If Taven wins, whoever is eliminated last can’t challenge for the title as long as Taven is champion)
ROH Television Champion Shane Taylor defending against the winner of Chase Owens vs. PJ Black vs. LSG from ROH’s television tapings in Atlanta, Georgia on August 24
One of professional wrestling’s most outspoken — and often controversial — personalities will be inducting the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express into the WWE Hall of Fame.
WWE announced on Monday afternoon that Jim Cornette would be doing the honors of inducting Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson. Cornette stood opposite the two as a manager for years, including when he managed the Midnight Express in a feud that spanned multiple promotions and came to define tag team wrestling during the 1980s.
âBy any standard, Ricky and Robert belong in the Hall of Fame,â Cornette said in an interview with WWE.com. âAnd thatâs whether it’s longevity as a team, the attendance records they set, or the great matches that they had, which fans can still see on WWE Network.â
Cornette’s inclusion at the ceremony comes as a surprise considering that he hasn’t been with the company since 2005, when he worked at Ohio Valley Wrestling, and how often he’s been critical of WWE. He tweeted about the news, “Wear your winter clothes to Florida! A cold snap is headed towards Hell!”
WWE hasn’t yet revealed who will be inducting Diamond Dallas Page and Beth Phoenix into the Hall of Fame. Ricky Steamboat will induct Rick Rude, John Cena will induct Kurt Angle, and John “Bradshaw” Layfield & Ron Simmons will induct Teddy Long. Dana Warrior will also present Eric LeGrand with the Warrior Award.
The 2017 Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on March 31st at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
