Former WWE NXT UK champion debuts at Ring of Honor TV taping

A former member of Meta-Four in WWE NXT and a past NXT UK champion made his debut at Wednesday’s Ring of Honor TV taping ahead of AEW Dynamite.

The former Oro Mensah, now going by Oro, took on NJPW star Tomohiro Ishii in his first match anywhere since April 26th when he defeated Keanu Carver on a NXT live event. He was released by WWE this past May after six years in developmental.

The 29-year-old Mensah (real name Oliver Carter) held the WWE NXT UK Tag Team titles with Ashton Smith for two months in the spring of 2022. He also appeared on an TNA Impact episode in a losing effort to Mike Santana while still under WWE contract.

Here are the spoilers from the ROH TV taping in Chicago:

  • Jay Lethal defeated Alex Zayne
  • Tomohiro Ishii defeated Oro
  • Willie Mack defeated Gringo Loco

After last making an ROH appearance in April 2024, Zayne now has competed for the red and black brand in back-to-back months.

Mack made his first ROH appearance since this past March when he teamed with Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara.

ROH Death Before Dishonor date moved for second time

ROH Death Before Dishonor has been moved yet again.

Announced during Saturday’s AEW Collision, one of the quarterly-ish Ring of Honor streaming specials will now take place on Friday, August 29th instead of Friday, September 5th. The event will still take place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, the former ECW Arena.

No reason was given for the change.

It will be part of AEW’s multi-event residency in Philadelphia that begins on Wednesday, August 27th and runs through September 11th with three Dynamites, three Collisions, and the ROH streaming special.

In April, AEW moved Death Before Dishonor from Friday, July 11th during All In week to September 5th, putting Supercard of Honor in its place instead.

ROH Death Before Dishonor history

This year’s show will be the 22nd Death Before Dishonor in ROH history, dating back to 2003. Several of the events were split into two nights and sometimes in two different cities — a practice that ended in 2014.

This will be the fifth Death Before Dishonor in Philadelphia and the first since 2021 which was prior to Tony Khan owning the company.

Image: AEW

A Ring of Honor Women’s title match appears to be on the horizon for next month’s ROH Supercard of Honor streaming special.

In a social media clip from Thursday seen below, former AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa issued a challenge to reigning ROH Women’s titleholder Athena for Friday, July 11 at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Athena has not responded as of yet, but very well could as part of Thursday night’s ROH x CMLL Global Wars when the tag match featuring Athena and ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet vs. Rosa and Persephone match from last week will air.

Rosa and Athena were also part of Wednesday’s four-way on AEW Dynamite to crown the first entrant into the women’s Casino Gauntlet that is part of AEW All In: Texas on Saturday, July 12. The two were also part of an eight-woman tag team match as part of last Saturday’s AEW Collision where Velvet interfered to cost Rosa’s team the match.

Assuming the match is confirmed, Rosa would be looking for her first ROH gold while Athena is closing in on 1000 days as ROH Women’s Champion.

As of now, the only match that has been announced for the show is the finals of the inaugural ROH Women’s Pure title tournament which has yet to start or the participants announced.

VIDEO: Bryan Danielson appears, gets physical at ROH x CMLL Global Wars

As part of Wednesday’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico at Arena Mexico, there were several matches taped before and after the broadcast for a future Ring of Honor vs. CMLL Global Wars show.

The big headline coming out of the proceedings was an appearance by former AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson who came out to aid Blue Panther at the end of the final match, video of which is below.

Danielson was in the crowd with Chris Hero during Tuesday’s AEW & ROH vs. CMLL show. It was his first appearance since losing the AEW World title to Jon Moxley at last October’s WrestleDream.

These spoilers come courtesy of PWInsider.

  • ROH TV Champion Nick Wayne vs. Titan went to a draw
  • CMLL Universal Amazons Champion Persephone & Thunder Rosa defeated ROH Women’s World Champion Athena & ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet
  • Blue Panther defeated ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty (with The Infantry & Shane Taylor) in a non-title match

After Panther’s victory, The Infantry and Taylor beat down Panther. As Taylor was about to deliver a top rope splash, Danielson came out to lead the way for Hologram and others to make the save. Danielson closed out the save by nailing Taylor with his running knee strike, hugging Panther afterward.

Danielson faced Blue Panther twice in the spring of 2024, once in an eight-man tag match and then in a singles submission match — both at Arena Mexico.

Danielson addressed the crowd, thanking them and saying AEW loves Mexico and he loves Blue Panther. Before he left, Justin Roberts said they wanted the fans to have a final singalong and “The Final Countdown” played to close the night.

Dalton Castle return vignette airs on Ring of Honor TV

Dalton Castle appears ready to return to the ring.

A vignette featuring Castle and his Boys aired on Thursday’s edition of Ring of Honor TV on Honor Club. The Boys approached a spaceship in the desert, with Castle emerging from the vessel and announcing that it was time for them to “make some noise.”

No official return date was announced for Castle, who has been out of action since last July.

On an AEW Collision episode last July, Castle was knocked out in a match with Roderick Strong that led to the finish to the match being changed on the fly. It originally appeared that Castle was sidelined due to a concussion, but it would later emerge that Castle had suffered a torn biceps that required surgery and a lengthy injury rehabilitation.

Castle is a former ROH World Champion, ROH World Television Champion, and two-time ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champion.

Our report from this week’s Ring of Honor TV episode is available here.

Nick Comoroto returns on AEW Dynamite after near nine-month absence

Image: AEW

Nick Comoroto returned to the ring on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite after nearly nine months away due to recovering from a major hip procedure.

The 34-year-old was part of a trios bout that saw him team with former Ring of Honor TV and Tag Team Champion Rhett Titus and Myles Hawkins in a three-minute squash defeat to reigning AEW Trios Champions The Opps.

His last match was for ROH in August 2024 where he’s spent the majority of his career the past few years. Even before the surgery, he was rarely on AEW TV, competing just once in all of 2024 before the injury — a one-minute June squash loss to Daniel Garcia. Before that, his last AEW bout was July 2023.

Comoroto underwent hip resurfacing surgery after “wrestling on one leg for nearly two years” as he said at the time. The process as described is surgery that replaces the damaged hip joint surface with a metal covering that preserves the natural bone and cartilage to a greater extent than a full replacement.

Comoroto debuted for AEW in 2020 after previously being part of WWE developmental in NXT. He was trained at the Monster Factory and a member of QT Marshall’s The Factory stable in AEW prior to the group disbanding.

Mina Shirakawa set for ROH TV return

Mina Shirakawa’s first match under the AEW/ROH banner since leaving Stardom has been announced.

Shirakawa will face Leila Grey on this Thursday’s episode of ROH on HonorClub. It will be her first match for ROH since last August. Her most recent AEW match, aside from Wrestle Dynasty on January 5 in Tokyo, was at Winter is Coming 2024 on December 11.

The match was confirmed by ROH on Monday, writing, “@Miss_LeilaGrey sets her sights on the ROH Women’s Pure Title Tournament, but first she faces the returning @MinaShirakawa!”

Grey is one of five participants announced for the upcoming ROH Women’s Pure title tournament.

The match will likely be taped at AEW’s show on Wednesday in Norfolk, Virginia, as there is no record of it being taped recently. Shirakawa finished up with Stardom at the promotion’s American Dream 2025 shows in Las Vegas on April 17 and 18.

This will be the second singles match between Shirakawa and Grey. Their first meeting took place on the November 27, 2024, episode of AEW Collision in Chicago.

Ring of Honor on HonorClub announced lineup for Thursday, May 1, 2025:

  • Mina Shirakawa vs. Leila Grey
  • ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet defends against La Catalina
  • MxM Collection (Mace Madden & Mansoor) in action

New ROH Women’s Pure title tournament participants revealed

Ring of Honor has revealed three new participants for the tournament to crown the inaugural Women’s Pure Champion.

During Thursday’s Ring of Honor TV episode, Deonna Purrazzo, Taya Valkyrie, and Leila Grey were confirmed as entrants. They join Serena Deeb and Queen Aminata as the first five participants confirmed for the ROH Women’s Pure Championship tournament.

Aminata will face Deeb in a first round matchup. A total number of entrants for the tournament have not been announced to this point.

The Aminata vs. Deeb matchup was originally slated for Supercard of Honor when that show was set for May, but the date has since been moved to All In weekend with the show now taking place on Friday, July 11.

ROH and AEW owner Tony Khan announced the creation of the Women’s Pure Championship at an ROH taping on April 12.
