WWE Main Event results: Bianca Belair, Moss-Carillo rematch

The Big Takeaways:

  • Bianca Belair was back on Main Event this week, but remained undefeated since being called up to the main roster.
  • Riddick Moss and Humberto Carrillo had a rematch from last week’s show with Moss going over once again.

**********

Bianca Belair defeated Jessi Kamea (4:30)

There had seemed to be hope.

Last week, Belair had some Raw TV time in a tag match with Ruby Riott and, not only that, she won. Yet this week, she was back on Main Event and up against an opponent who isn’t really in the same league.

Kamea made her debut last week in a squash at the hands of Shayna Baszler. This time out, she was outclassed by a performer who is significantly more able at this point in their respective careers. She did get a lot more in against Belair, but is probably not ready for this kind of in-ring action just yet. Her move set appears limited and she was a little off the pace at times during this one.

Belair used this as an exhibition, repeatedly showboating and, at one point, doing squats while she had Kamea up for a scoop slam. In the end, Belair finished her by slamming her face first into the turnbuckle and pinned her after the KOD.

Riddick Moss defeated Humberto Carrillo (6:06)

This was a rematch from last week’s Main Event. It ran a little shorter and unfortunately wasn’t quite as good.

Watching this match made me realize how much improved MVP has become in his role in the announce booth. With no real agenda, other than to be more inclined towards heels, MVP was easily as good as a sports color commentator as you are likely to hear.

One issue MVP pointed out — that Carrillo almost immediately righted — was that Carrillo was trying to wear down Moss when his strength lies in his speed and agility. The best parts of this relatively short bout came when Carrillo quickened his pace and tried something creative.

In the end, the finish was identical to last week with Moss spearing Carrillo into the corner before nailing him with his modified neckbreaker. There is still a fluidity between these two that is intriguing to watch and, if given the opportunity, they will work well together further down the line.

Final Thoughts:

There was nothing special about the show this week.

The stuttering start to Belair’s main roster run may be frustrating, but they are at least protecting her. Although she hasn’t really been tested against a highly rated in-ring performer, she ran her record to 11-0 since her call up with the win. Kamea has a fantastic look, but doesn’t seem to have it quite yet.

Moss would benefit from a manager or a tag partner to work off. He is constantly trash talking to someone on the hard cam side of the ring and it would be better directed elsewhere. I do fear that Carrillo has hit a career roadblock at this point, but at least he is still in his early twenties and time is on his side.

WWE Main Event results: Shayna Baszler, Riddick Moss in action

The Big Takeaway:

Shayna Baszler squashed Jessi Kamea in a match that marked both of their Main Event debuts while Riddick Moss grabbed a win in a good match against Humberto Carrillo.

**********

Shayna Baszler defeated Jessi Kamea (5:09)

Over the last few months, Main Event has been a platform for NXT talent to try out against main roster talent, making for a superior show that has been infinitely more watchable. Kamea was the latest such debutant this week, facing off against Baszler whose very presence on this show will certainly raise a few eyebrows.

Kamea was a college volleyball player at Concordia University in Texas and joined the NXT roster back in 2017. She is tall, lean, and strong and at 31, it’s time for her to get a chance to prove herself at the top level.

However, as far as debuts go, this wasn’t much of one. Baszler worked over her left arm for the whole match and Kamea didn’t really get a chance to shine or show off what she could do.

But, this was Baszler’s Main Event debut as well and was there to make her look strong and dominant. After lots of mat work, she hit Kamea with a modified cutter and a knee strike before locking in the Kirifuda Clutch to claim an easy submission victory.

Riddick Moss defeated Humberto Carrillo (6:21)

It has been a few months since Moss appeared on Main Event. In February and through March, he had a 24/7 Championship run before he relinquished the title to R-Truth. He was last seen on this show defeating Cedric Alexander back in January.

Carrillo has been nothing short of impressive since he joined the main roster a year ago. A natural in the ring and with time on his side and if used right, he has a big future.

Moss has real tone and strength in his upper body and carries himself like a big man, but can be explosive and quick too. He and Carrillo were near perfect opponents for each other, having only really worked together a handful of times over the last couple of years.

After Carrillo came off the top rope with a moonsault where Moss got his legs up, Moss absolutely annihilated him with a charge to the corner and hit him with a cool looking, modified neckbreaker for his first win since March.

Final Thoughts:

This was an intriguing show, but not a great one. Never say never, but Baszler surely won’t be a Main Event regular. Kamea would benefit from working with the likes of Natalya as having her as fodder for Baszler doesn’t do anyone much good. Given more time, Moss and Carrillo could work a decent program together.

VIDEO: R-Truth wins WWE 24/7 title from Riddick Moss

WWE released a brief new piece of content today, with R-Truth regaining the 24/7 title from Riddick Moss:

In the video, Moss is jogging with the 24/7 title around his waist when referee Darrick Moore pulls up in a car. While Moss tells Moore to get out and questions him, R-Truth pops out of the trunk and rolls up Moss to win the title.

“You need to go back to football, Mr. Randy Moss,” R-Truth says before driving away in Moore’s car.

Moss had been 24/7 Champion for over a month. After being paired with Mojo Rawley when he made his WWE Raw debut, Moss turned against Rawley and won the title from him on the February 10 episode of the show.

Moss had retained the 24/7 title against Rawley and R-Truth in a triple threat match on the February 17 edition of Raw, against Ricochet on March 2, and against Cedric Alexander on March 9. Moss also defended the title against Alexander on Main Event once.

Baszler vs. Asuka, Tag Team & 24/7 title defenses set for WWE Raw

WWE has made a few more announcements for Raw’s Elimination Chamber go-home show.

Ahead of taking part in one of next Sunday’s Elimination Chamber matches, Shayna Baszler and Asuka will face off in a singles match on Raw tomorrow night. It will be the first time Baszler and Asuka have wrestled each other.

Baszler, Asuka, Natalya, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan are the participants for the women’s Elimination Chamber match, with the winner going on to challenge Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36.

In what WWE is calling a “Now or Never” match, The Street Profits are getting one more shot at Seth Rollins & Murphy’s Raw Tag Team titles tomorrow. Rollins & Murphy retained their titles against The Street Profits at Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia. The finish was Murphy pinning Angelo Dawkins after Rollins gave Dawkins a stomp on the apron while the referee was distracted.

The 24/7 title will also be on the line on Raw tomorrow night, though WWE hasn’t announced who Riddick Moss’ challenger will be.

Tomorrow’s Raw is taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. AJ Styles vs. Aleister Black and Rey Mysterio & Humberto Carrillo vs. Andrade & Angel Garza had already been announced for the episode.

Tomorrow’s show will also feature appearances by Brock Lesnar and Beth Phoenix. Lesnar, who will defend his WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania, retained the title against Ricochet at Super ShowDown.

WWE is hyping that Phoenix will give an update on Edge’s status after the angle where he was attacked by Randy Orton in January.

WWE Main Event results: 24/7 title on the line

The Big Takeaway: Shelton Benjamin submitted No Way Jose in under five minutes in the opener. WWE then put the 24/7 title on the line at the end of the show, with Riddick Moss getting the better of Cedric Alexander in a good match.

**********

Shelton Benjamin defeated No Way Jose (4:35)

On Lilian Garcia’s podcast recently, Shelton Benjamin revealed that — despite his mixed feelings about his current position on the WWE main roster — he had signed a new multi-year deal with the company.

His Royal Rumble spot with Brock Lesnar apart, Benjamin has been a regular on Main Event through January and February and had been on a losing streak, after three defeats on the trot. No Way Jose, by contrast, is little more than an enhancement talent at this stage.

Jose actually got in much more by way of offense than you would think, but the story of the match was Benjamin trying to work over Jose’s left arm.

They did a spot where Benjamin was sent outside and he chokeslammed one of Jose’s conga line members, then powerbombed another on top of Jose as he went to their aid.

Eventually, though, Jose got caught by a cross armbar and tapped out. It was certainly made a more interesting match because of the pursuit of the submission by Benjamin, but this was otherwise nothing special.

24/7 Champion Riddick Moss defeated Cedric Alexander to retain his title (6:17)

Riddick Moss made his Main Event debut a few weeks ago and from there went on to claim the 24/7 title, after turning on Mojo Rawley on Raw. A former college football player, the link with Rawley was always likely, with the name Moss reportedly a tribute to former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss.

Moss’ NXT run was marred by a torn Achilles tendon and he was generally on a losing tag team stretch with Dorian Mak in the last sixth months or so. He’s been the 24/7 Champion since February 10 and looked good here against Alexander.

Alexander was the star here, though, carrying the pace of the match and showing off his varied move set. They generally split this one 50-50, with a ton of near falls coming near the end.

There was a nice spot where Alexander did a tope to the outside, through the bottom rope, but it was all over when Moss caught Alexander with his side slam, Rock Bottom type of finisher.

Moss looks the part, but doesn’t sell that well yet. It will be interesting to see how they use him and how he develops.

NXT’s Riddick Moss makes WWE Raw debut

The post-Royal Rumble edition of Raw saw NXT’s Riddick Moss make his main roster debut.

Moss was paired with fellow former football player Mojo Rawley. During Rawley’s ring entrance, Moss was referred to as his offensive lineman. Rawley also cut a promo introducing Moss, saying that every franchise quarterback knows that they need a strong offensive lineman to watch their blindside.

Rawley then retained his 24/7 Championship in a squash match against No Way Jose. R-Truth was dressed as a member of No Way Jose’s conga line, snuck up on Rawley after the match, and pinned him to win the 24/7 title. Moss stopped Truth from leaving the ring and Rawley slammed Truth to win the title back.

Before appearing on Raw, Moss was also in action on tonight’s WWE Main Event tapings. He defeated Cedric Alexander in a singles match.

Moss teamed with Dorian Mak as The Outliers in NXT, with them being managed by Robert Stone. Moss & Mak also appeared on two episodes of NXT UK television that were taped in November. They lost matches against The Hunt (Wild Boar & Primate) and Oliver Carter & Ashton Smith.

Moss also formerly teamed with Tino Sabbatelli in NXT.

Moss’ real name is Mike Rallis. He played college football as a linebacker and defensive back at the University of Minnesota.

Lee has new self-sung theme music that debuted here — and he followed it up with an encore of the loudest chop of the night to Thorne.

NXT St. Augustine, FL, live results: Andrews teams with Ohno

By @FLWrestlingFan

– War Machine defeated TM61

This was a real solid opener, with Hanson pinning Nick Miller after Thor’s Hammer. TM61 continue to do their tweener heel gimmick. War Machine’s music isn’t known by the entire state, but they’re getting monster pops when they come through the curtain at Florida house shows.

– Buddy Murphy defeated Dijak

Murphy pinned Dijak (announced as that) with his spinning Death Valley Driver. This match was a sprint with a ton of amazing strikes by both guys. Murphy did two near-10 counts, which the crowd almost bit on. Really good match for six or seven minutes.

– Dakota Kai & Jessie Elaban defeated Vanessa Borne & Aliyah

Kai pinned Borne after debuting a modified Canadian Destroyer Backstabber as a new finisher. The crowd went nuts for the move. Borne could not have taken it any better.

– Ricochet came out and cut a promo about how he’s going to win the NXT North American Championship. Long way to go on the mic, but the crowd appreciated him appearing.

– Babatunde Aiyegbusi defeated Fabian Aichner

Babatunde won with a pop-up lariat. The intensity he brings with his limited move set is very over with the audience in terms of being a monster heel with power moves and aggression.

– The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler) defeated The Street Profits

Blake pinned Montez Ford after Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss interfered and Sabbatelli pushed Ford off the top rope as he was going for a frog splash. This was The Street Profits’ first match since losing to The Authors of Pain at Full Sail and their first real match since Ford got hurt.

This had the most heat of any match on the show with the crowd hating Cutler and Blake. The entire crowd just kept calling The Forgotten Sons chickens the entire match. It was so bizarre, but Ford took it to another level by making chicken sounds every time he grabbed a headlock. Very entertaining match.

– Kairi Sane defeated Taynara Conti

Sane won with the top rope elbow, which is the first time in she’s used it on a house show in a while.

– Aleister Black defeated Kona Reeves

They did the match they’ve been doing the past three weeks where the bell rings and Black stands still in the ring for minutes. Meanwhile, the heel cuts a promo, goes back and forth several times to the outside to argue with fans, then after three times of going to the outside, the heel charges at Black and gets hit with the Black Mass.

Much like the previous two times this match was done (March 17th vs. Reeves in Largo, March 23rd vs. Marcel Barthel in Lakeland), Zelina Vega came out and sat in front of Black. She cut her typical promo about NXT TakeOver: New Orleans and left the ring.

– Mark Andrews & Kassius Ohno defeated Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss

Andrews pinned Moss with a roll-up after countering the assisted Gory Bomb finisher Moss and Sabbatelli do. Andrews got beat up for most of the match before getting the hot tag to Ohno. Decent bout.

After it was over, Blake and Cutler made it four-on-two and beat down Ohno and Andrews. This brought out The Street Profits to get their revenge on their opponents from earlier, as well as Sabbatelli and Moss. Ford and Andrews hit their finishers.

Ohno danced with The Street Profits and did a reverse worm to a massive pop. He then asked for the mic and said him and Angelo Dawkins were in NXT five years ago and where they’re at now compared to then is night and day. He said that the fans are what makes NXT what it is and the brand would be nothing without the fans.

A wheelbarrow slam by EY ended this one.

– Ruby Riot defeated Mandy Rose

Riot picked up the victory with her up-kick finish.

– Roderick Strong, No Way Jose & Buddy Murphy defeated NXT Champion Bobby Roode, Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss

There was comedy early where Jose tried to trick the opposition into dancing until Roode declared there would be no dancing in his NXT. Jose taunted Roode with a “Glorious” pose of his own to stir things up.

Roode avoided Strong as much as possible in this match, and Murphy ran wild before getting pulled off the apron by Roode. The heels worked him over until the hot tag to Strong, who ran wild and hit his suplex into a backcracker for the win. His team celebrated to close the show.
