Show Recap —

There was a long video recapping recent events involving Judgment Day. The new version of the stable was shown arriving at the arena, as were Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, and Bron Breakker.

Rhea Ripley segment

Ripley entered to a big reaction. She said she had a lot of time to consider what happened at SummerSlam. She’s felt every emotion you can in a situation like this. She felt embarrassment and heartbreak, but really, she was just pissed the hell off.

Dominik Mysterio stabbed her in the back but “it just wasn’t deep enough” — and he’s probably heard that before. (The crowd enjoyed that line.) Ripley warned Liv Morgan that she couldn’t run away forever because she was Rhea bloody Ripley and it was time to remind them of that.

Morgan and Dom appeared in the top row of the arena’s lower level. Morgan handed the mic to Dom who was loudly booed. Ripley enjoyed the booing but wanted to hear what he had to say. Dom said he was a man and deserved to be treated like one. The crowd told him that he sucked.

Dom said Ripley tried to change him instead of letting him be him. He was embarrassed being bossed around, forced to call her, “Mami,” but now he had a girl who called him Daddy. She gave him chicken tendies and let him play video games whenever he wanted. She also helped him beat his deadbeat dad, something Ripley never did.

Ripley had words for Dom that he hadn’t heard in a while: “I’m proud of you.” Watching Dom grow into the man he is today was one of her biggest accomplishments. He finally did something for himself and won gold. However, Ripley always wanted Dom to beat Rey on his own. Now Dom was making his own decisions but the most recent one would be his last.

Morgan told Ripley that she had nothing left. Her real family was miles away and Morgan took Judgment Day away from her. Dom was hers, the world title was hers and the women’s division was hers.

Ripley told Morgan she made a mistake by leaving her standing and that she would have to kill her to stop her. Ripley was glad Morgan liked the sound of her own voice because it gave them time to find her.

Damian Priest appeared behind them and he attacked Dom in the concourse area. Morgan tried to help but Ripley chased her away as Priest chased Dom down to ringside. Carlito tried to help but Priest sent him out of the ring.

(This segment was fine but you didn’t miss anything if you didn’t see it. The show was 8 minutes old by the time Ripley spoke and 19 minutes old by the time this segment was done.)

Damian Priest defeated Carlito (9:20)

Carlito had control through a break (and probably got more offence than he should have) but Priest came back with a falcon arrow, clothesline, and South of Heaven for the pinfall win.

— Judgment Day attacked Priest after the match but Ripley’s music hit (even though she was just out there) and she ran out to make the save. She kicked Carlito low and confronted Finn Bálor. JD McDonagh took a superkick for Bálor who managed to escape. Priest gave McDonagh a chokeslam.

Priest and Ripley hugged. Dom actually tried to attack them off the top as they hugged but Priest caught him by the throat, which was funny. Priest handed Dom to Ripley who tried Rip-tide but Morgan pulled him out of the ring.

********

Ivy Nile told Maxxine Dupri she probably shouldn’t be at ringside for the tag match later. Nile was sincere but Dupri said she wasn’t leaving her family (Otis and Tozawa) behind. Nile figured Dupri might say that. She left.

********

Bo Dallas video

There was a new Wyatt Sicks VHS featuring Bo Dallas. He said everything was coming full circle. It’s been heavy lately with lots of emotions. The Wyatt Sicks debuted in Baltimore last week, just as the original Wyatt family did. He (Bray) was there (in spirit). Something big was happening but the work wasn’t done. He repeated the phrase, “My life, for you,” as shots of Uncle Howdy spliced in.

********

Xavier Woods approached Kofi Kingston and Odyssey Jones. Woods said he’d been looking for Kingston everywhere because he wanted to talk about tonight. Kingston was excited and also wanted to talk about tonight. Jones had their back last week so they’d be in his corner for his debut match. Woods was on board but was obviously not thrilled with how this played out.

Odyssey Jones (w/The New Day) defeated Vincent Winey (1:45)

Winey is a former football player working at the Performance Center. Jones beat him quickly with a spinning sidewalk slam.

— Karrion Kross entered with Final Testament after the match. Kross warned Woods that Jones would be his replacement. Woods asked if Kross was tired of doing this every week. Woods was about to challenge one of them to a singles match but Kingston grabbed the mic. Kingston knew everyone would just get involved anyway so he challenged them to a six-man match. Kross accepted. Kingston “misspoke” and called them “Final Testicle.”

********

Drew McIntyre approached Adam Pearce. Pearce told him that CM Punk wasn’t there due to travel issues. McIntyre didn’t care about Punk and wanted to know why Smackdown’s Randy Orton was getting a title shot. Orton got screwed three months ago and sat around like a snake waiting for an opportunity. Orton got screwed once but McIntyre has been screwed over repeatedly.

McIntyre planned on taking care of this himself. Pearce didn’t like the sound of that but McIntyre assured him that he would be on his best behaviour.

********

Otis and Tozawa entered for their match. Oba Femi was ringside with his NXT North American Championship belt in hand. He had a staredown with Otis who blew him off. The announcers noted that Femi has an open challenge scheduled on NXT tomorrow.

[SECOND HOUR]

They aired a video of Chad Gable who wasn’t with the Creeds because he was in Paris, France. Gable said he needed to get away but was also there to watch the Olympic gold medal matches to do some scouting. Gable knew he had to get back home to take care of unfinished business with the Wyatts.

The announcers congratulated Masai Russell on winning gold in the 100m hurdles. They mentioned she was part of WWE’s NIL program and could be a WWE superstar one day.

Tornado tag team match: Julius & Brutus Creed defeated Otis & Akira Tozawa (w/Maxxine Dupri) (11:58)

Otis press slammed Tozawa onto the Creeds ahead of a break. The Creeds were in control after the break until Tozawa dropped them with a double DDT. Otis ran them over and slammed Julius before hitting a Caterpillar but Brutus broke up the cover. The Creeds double-teamed Otis but Tozawa broke up the cover.

Brutus tried to powerbomb Tozawa off the ropes but Tozawa brought him down with a hurricanrana. Tozawa fired up on the Creeds and went for a suicide dive but his leg caught the rope and he fell awkwardly (Julius did his best to catch him).

Julius got Otis on his shoulders and did an electric chair drop as Otis simultaneously brought down Brutus with a superplex. Tozawa immediately followed with a flying senton on Julius. The crowd went nuts for all of this and chanted, “Holy sh*t.”

Ivy Nile suddenly appeared at ringside and attacked Dupri. Nile planted Dupri on the table and locked her in a dragon sleeper.

The distraction allowed the Creeds to knock Otis out of the ring. They stacked up Tozawa in a rollup for the pinfall win. This was pretty fun.

********

Pete Dunne interview

Jackie Redmond interviewed Pete Dunne in the empty arena earlier today. Redmond said Sheamus took Dunne under his wing when he came up from NXT but he cut her off. Dunne said Sheamus held him down while Dunne elevated Sheamus.

Sheamus went on the run of a lifetime because of him. All Dunne got out of it was a terrible nickname and a front-row seat to the Sheamus show. If Sheamus really had the Brutes under his wing, then where was Ridge Holland?

Redmond acknowledged the Butch name and Dunne said he never wanted to hear that name again. Dunne had to swallow his pride for two years. He wasn’t Butch, he was the Bruiserweight and an 18-year vet. If he had to shut Sheamus up to never hear that name again, then that’s what he’d do.

(I’m glad they gave Dunne a chance to talk and this was good. Although I fear his promo will just lead to the fans chanting Butch at him.)

*********

There was a silly “WWE Physics” video meant to analyze the destruction Bronson Reed handed out to Seth Rollins last week.

Pearce admonished Reed and told him he was lucky he only had to pay a fine. Reed said he warned Pearce last week but would give him a second chance tonight. Pearce could find him an opponent tonight or he’d find his next victim.

********

Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane cut a pre-taped promo (in English and Japanese). They were still in control and Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark would pay for what they did to Dakota Kai.

There was a response video by Sonya Deville, Baszler and Stark. Their new stable name is “Pure Fusion Collective.” They said they’ve ripped through the tag division before and had no problem doing it again.

********

There was a memorial graphic for Kevin Sullivan.

********

Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre (the tag team champions) entered to watch this match from ringside.

“WWE legend” Candice Michelle was shown in the audience.

IYO SKY & Kairi Sane defeated Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark (w/Sonya Deville) via disqualification (8:30)

They went to break after 90 seconds, wrestled for a bit after the break, then it ended in a DQ.

Sky was in control but a distraction by Deville got in the way. Stark tried to superkick Sky outside the ring but Sky ducked and Stark superkicked Fyre. Sky had it won after hitting a moonsault in the ring but Dawn and Fyre attacked for the DQ. Dawn and Fyre laid out Sky and Sane after the match.

This was a number one contender’s match so we’ll have to wait to find out what the decision is. Damage CTRL technically won but they never make official announcements after the match when it ends in a dumb DQ.

********

R-Truth approached The Miz who was not in a good mood. Truth wanted to cheer him up so he got him a title match against “Bron.” Miz was excited until he realized Bron Breakker already had a match against Sami Zayn tonight and freaked out upon realizing his match was actually against Bronson Reed.

Randy Orton appeared to give Miz a pep talk. Orton ran down Miz’s accomplishments that he always repeats himself (leaving out the time Miz cashed in MITB on him) and told him he could do it. This hyped up Miz who ran off in excitement. Truth asked Orton if he really thought Miz had a chance and Orton scoffed.

********

[THIRD HOUR]

Randy Orton and Gunther segment, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk interrupt

Orton entered to a big reaction. Orton said he won the world title 20 years ago this month and he became the youngest world champion in history. History would repeat itself at Bash in Berlin and he would become a 15-time champion.

Gunther interrupted. Orton wanted the fans to remember this moment because in a few weeks, Gunther would no longer be champion and Monday nights would be Orton’s new home. Gunther also wanted the fans to remember this moment because they got to see Orton who was one of the greatest of all time.

Gunther said Orton should be the greatest of all time. Orton was the most talented man this business has seen but he took all of that talent and wasted it. This was a new era, the era of the Ring General, and in his era, there was no room for people who wasted their potential. In the future of his era, Orton wouldn’t play a role anymore.

Orton said he never claimed to be perfect. He has made a lot of mistakes. More than anyone in the locker room. But he owned up to those mistakes and changed course. Orton wanted to remind him of something: he was the most unpredictable, violent, controversial and successful superstar in history. This wasn’t a curse, it was a gift.

Orton always did things his way. The American way. He had five beautiful kids at home, a hot-ass smoke-show of a wife, and was a soon-to-be 15-time champion. Orton appreciated Gunther’s opinion but thought he’s done pretty good for himself. (Of course, fans chanted, “USA.”)

Gunther didn’t think Orton was unpredictable. He was very predictable. Gunther had a few predictions himself. Orton would get a beating of a lifetime in Berlin and would never be champion again. When it really mattered, Orton always screwed up. Screwing up came naturally to him. Orton’s grandfather and father were both screwups and Randy was the biggest screwup of them all.

The crowd waited for Orton to hit an RKO but McIntyre interrupted instead. Gunther turned to look at McIntyre but Orton turned him around and hit an RKO.

McIntyre was about to hit the ring but was attacked by CM Punk. McIntyre shoved him aside and tried to attack with his belt but Punk grabbed the belt and attacked McIntyre with it. Punk whipped McIntyre with the belt until he escaped through the crowd.

********

Redmond interviewed Sheamus. He still didn’t understand what Dunne’s issue was even after hearing his interview. Ludwig Kaiser interrupted and warned Sheamus that it wasn’t over between them. Kaiser wanted to put an end to Sheamus once and for all.

Dunne attacked Sheamus from behind with the shillelagh and clobbered his hand with it.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Punk in the back. (A pissed-off Gunther marched off in the background.) Kelley mentioned Punk’s supposed travel issues but noted they were on the same flight to Austin and she had no such travel issues.

Punk admitted to telling a little white lie. He knew McIntyre wouldn’t show up if he did. He told a lie to get his hands on McIntyre because he was still running around with his bracelet. Punk didn’t care about the actual bracelet and said McIntyre could keep it.

Punk wanted McIntyre to keep his wife’s name and his dog’s name out of his mouth. Punk travelled a long way to get his hands on McIntyre. McIntyre would call him a hypocrite for telling a lie but McIntyre ran from a fight he claimed he wanted. Punk held up the belt and said he had a great idea.

********

Bronson Reed defeated The Miz (w/R-Truth) (6:35)

Miz made a comeback after a break, including a tornado DDT for just a one count. Miz hit It Kicks which Reed no-sold. Miz tried a springboard crossbody but Reed caught him and hit a DVD. Reed followed with a DVD and Tsunami for the pinfall win.

— Reed went for another Tsunami but Truth saved Miz so Reed gave him consecutive Tsunamis instead. (Miz vanished.) Pearce and officials ran out but Reed continued with two more until officials dragged Truth away. They stupidly dragged him to another corner so Reed just went over there and hit another one. Pearce yelled at Reed as he left but he returned to the ring and hit one more Tsunami. The crowd was into this.

********

Jey Uso hyped up Sami Zayn backstage. Jey said Zayn would beat Bron and beat him again, and the two of them would beat Judgment Day again to win the tag titles. Zayn was pumped and they did their fancy handshake.

********

Announced for Bash in Berlin: Rhea Ripley & Damian Priest vs. Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio in a mixed tag match.

There was a quick Judgment Day video promo. Morgan and Dom said they would beat Ripley and Priest. Finn warned Priest to watch out for “Backstabber Bálor.”

********

Next week on Raw:

  • Triple threat for the women’s tag titles: Fyre & Dawn vs. Sky & Sane vs. Baszler & Stark
  • Sheamus vs. Pete Dunne
  • Six-man tag match: New Day & Odyssey Jones vs. Final Testament

********

2-out-of-3 falls match: Bron Breakker defeated Sami Zayn to retain the Intercontinental Championship (17:32)

They went to break 50 seconds into the match after Zayn hit a flip dive and Bron was in control after the break. Bron hit a spinebuster for two and Zayn responded with a tornado DDT for two. Bron hit a German suplex but Zayn suddenly caught him moments later with a Helluva Kick to win the first fall (7:00 into the match).

Zayn tried a moonsault off the barricade but Bron caught him, ran toward the other side and chucked him into the timekeeper’s area. (The cameraperson ran behind Bron to get a continuous action shot, but Bron’s foot rose up and knocked the camera back slightly so we missed Zayn going over the barricade. It was a cool idea but the full replay looked way better because Zayn actually bounced off a leather chair upon landing.)

There were duelling chants of “Let’s go Sami” and “Let’s go Breakker” following another break. Bron hit a Frankensteiner for a nearfall. Bron followed with a press slam and consecutive spears to win the second fall (12:34 into the match).

Zayn tried to surprise Bron with a crucifix cover but Bron kicked out at two. Bron leaned Zayn against the announce table and hit a flying clothesline off the apron. Bron was willing to take a count-out win but Zayn made it back in at nine. Bron went after him but Zayn hit a sunset flip sit-out powerbomb for a nearfall.

Bron blocked an exploder and hit an overhead suplex. Zayn leaped over a spear attempt and applied a schoolboy for a nearfall. Bron followed with a dropkick and went for a spear but Zayn booted him for a nearfall.

Zayn tried something off the top but Bron speared him out of the air for the pinfall win.

Show Recap —

There was a SummerSlam video recapping the Raw brand matches.

Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio were shown arriving happily together. Damian Priest, Bron Breakker, and Drew McIntyre (also very happy) were shown, too.

Michael Cole announced a sellout crowd of 11,832. (The first hour is commercial-free.)

Gunther segment

Ludwig Kaiser was in the ring to start the show and introduced us to the new World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther.

Gunther entered in a suit and he hugged Kaiser. He held up his title belt as fireworks went off. He received a mixed response and some “You deserve it” chants.

Gunther stated: “My name is Gunther. I am the ring general. I am the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history. I am the King of the Ring. And now, I am your World Heavyweight Champion.”

Gunther continued by saying that if you thought his Intercontinental title reign was historic, just watch what he does as World Heavyweight Champion. He was above everyone in the ring. Nothing could catch him off guard because he was greatness personified. From this day forth, Raw, the legacy of this sport and the world title belonged to him.

Randy Orton interrupted to a loud pop. Gunther admitted he was wrong because that actually did catch him off-guard. Orton admitted that the title belt looked mighty fine on Gunther’s shoulders.

Orton said he was the only reason Gunther was holding the title in the first place. “You beat me at King of the Ring, but did you really beat me at King of the Ring?” Orton reminded us that his shoulders were up on the pinfall. He has been here long enough to know that the referee’s decision was final but Triple H knew there should be a sequel. Orton was calling his shot now.

Orton was the only one in the locker room that could match him. It was technician versus technician, smooth versus smoother. The fans deserved a modern-day Flair versus Steamboat. Gunther considered himself a living legend and that was perfect because Orton made a career out of killing legends. Orton planned on walking out of Gunther’s home country as world champion. The crowd chanted for Randy.

Gunther admitted that not beating Orton clean at KOTR left a stain on his record. The voices in Orton’s head were wrong if they were telling him he could beat Gunther in Berlin.

Gunther accepted Orton’s challenge and they shook hands. Gunther pulled him in close to tell him that nothing catches him out of nowhere. Orton was fine with that because he wanted Gunther to see it coming. Orton left.

This was a good, simple setup.

********

Sheamus did a quick interview with Jackie Remond. He knew guys like Kaiser and Pete Dunne were just trying to make a name for themselves at his expense but he told them to bring it on.

Sheamus defeated Ludwig Kaiser (11:20)

They brawled outside the ring before the match started. They got in the ring and it seemed like the referee forgot to start the match but maybe somebody alerted him in his ear and he rang the bell about 10 seconds later.

Sheamus was in full control until Kaiser feigned an injury to take a cheap shot. Kaiser ran around the ring for a running dropkick into the steel steps. Kaiser made a poor attempt at ten beats of the Bodhrán but Sheamus blocked it.

Sheamus no-sold some chops and followed with a headbutt, right hands, axe handles, corner clothesline, a backbreaker and White Noise for two. Sheamus applied a cloverleaf but Kaiser got a rope break. Kaiser tried to fight back but Sheamus hit ten beats of the Bodhrán and a flying clothesline to the outside.

Dunne tried to attack with the shillelagh but Sheamus dodged it and hit him with a knee strike. Kaiser caught Sheamus off guard with a running kick but he kicked out. Sheamus followed with a knee strike and Brogue Kick for the pinfall win.

This was good. The crowd liked Sheamus and popped for the finish.

********

There was a Wyatt Family/Wyatt Sicks video package. The original Wyatt group with Bray, Erick Rowan and Luke Harper debuted 11 years ago, also in Baltimore.

They mentioned Roman Reigns’ return for the second time and aired a few more clips from SummerSlam.

********

Damian Priest segment

Priest marched out to the ring and called out Finn Bálor to catch this beating like a man. The crowd was behind Priest. Priest said Bálor wasn’t a prince, he was a back-stabbing coward.

Priest was on his own most of his life until he found Judgment Day and they felt like family. However, after seeing the reaction of the fans, he knew they were his new family. He was pissed that Bálor took the title from him and from them. Priest wouldn’t let that stand. He called out Bálor again.

Bálor appeared on the screen in a dark room. Bálor said Priest brought this on himself. Bálor didn’t betray him, Priest betrayed them. Judgment Day wasn’t meant to have a leader but everything changed when he won the title. Bálor almost became the champion a year ago. After he lost, Priest told him to man up.

Bálor waited a full year and he did man up. “I screwed you and I screwed your family.” Priest was now just a loser from the street so Bálor didn’t plan on fighting him. JD McDonagh would fight him because he’s earned it.

Bálor would wait until Priest felt comfortable and until he’d almost forgotten about him. Bálor would wait until Priest’s back was turned and he would stab him in it again and again. And he wouldn’t be alone. Liv Morgan, Dominik, McDonagh and Carlito showed up behind Bálor. (This got a good reaction.) Priest marched out of the ring toward the back.

Bálor was good here, although the fans did laugh when he threatened to send JD after Priest.

********

Bronson Reed confronted Adam Pearce. He was annoyed he didn’t have a match tonight after beating Sheamus last week. Pearce tried to reason with him but Reed said he knew now that he’d have to create his own path to the top.

********

Lyra Valkyria defeated Shayna Baszler (w/Sonya Deville & Zoey Stark) via disqualification (2:37)

Valkyria fended off some interference and hit Baszler with her finisher but Deville and Stark broke up the cover for the DQ.

— The heels attacked Valkyria until Damage CTRL ran out to make the save.

This felt like filler to get us to the end of the first hour.

********

There was a pre-taped promo by Karrion Kross (alongside Final Testament) about Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. He claimed we’d witness the death of the New Day tonight.

********

CM Punk walked through the back. He’s up next.

(They went to commercial break for the first time at 8:56 pm.)

[SECOND HOUR]

Ivy Nile met with the Creed Brothers. She asked them to leave when Maxxine Dupri showed up. Dupri wondered why she hadn’t heard from her and said the Creeds have been attacking Otis and Akira Tozawa for weeks. Nile tried to reason with her and said the Creeds have a switch that just goes off sometimes.

Chad Gable appeared and told Dupri to leave. He told her they could keep the Alpha Academy name. Gable said he and the Creeds would beat the Wyatt Sicks tonight.

CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre segment

Punk entered to a big ovation. Punk congratulated Belal Muhammad on his win. Punk liked seeing good things happen to good people.

Punk was in a good mood despite what happened at SummerSlam. He was in Baltimore for the first time in 10 years and he couldn’t help but feel good hearing the fans chanted his name. Losing didn’t make him happy but SummerSlam was not a guarantee for him and neither was Raw in Baltimore.

He figured many people loved him because he didn’t stay down but there were some in the company who hated that he didn’t stay down. Just when he had his monumental return, it was all taken away from him. But he was in a good mood because he was told he would recover in nine months but he did it in five.

Drew McIntyre hurt him and that happens. But he gloated about it and made it personal. Punk was happy to be back because, for some people, their road to WrestleMania began in January, but not him. His Summer of Hate didn’t start the way he wanted but he noted it was still summer. The fans deserved less CM Punk talking and more CM Punk fighting.

Punk wanted McIntyre again. McIntyre claimed he wouldn’t stop until Punk’s heart stopped but his heart was still beating and blood was still pumping.

Seth Rollins interrupted. Rollins wore all black and had a stern demeanour as he stared a hole through Punk. Rollins removed his shades and jacket.

Rollins said they were both in a good mood because, after 10 long years, it was finally time for him to put Punk in the dirt. Punk called him into the ring and they were ready to fight but stopped upon hearing McIntyre.

McIntyre cut a promo while in the crowd. He gloated about his win over Punk with Rollins counting the fall. McIntyre said Punk proved he still had it in the ring, “But you’re no longer best in the world — I am.”

McIntyre showed the bracelet and said he still had Punk’s stupid-looking dog Larry and his lovely wife AJ at his side. Punk was pissed and he sprinted through the crowd after McIntyre.

Bronson Reed attacked Rollins in the ring. Rollins fought back but Reed nailed him with a Samoan drop, consecutive sentons and consecutive Tsunamis.

Officials ran out to check on Rollins as Reed left. However, Reed ran back to the ring and the Tsunami three more times. Just when it seemed like he was done, Reed did it one more time. The crowd really got up for this. (Rollins spat up blood as a result of the assault.)

Reed was about to leave but went to the top again and the officials finally figured it might be a good idea to roll Rollins out of harm’s way.

This was a very strong angle for Reed.

********

Redmond asked Pearce for an update on Rollins. Pearce said it didn’t look good and Rollins would be on his way to the hospital because there was fear of internal bleeding. (Cole noted that there was obviously internal bleeding.) Punk was storming through the back but Pearce cut him off and told him that he already walked McIntyre out of the building.

********

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods defeated Authors of Pain (w/Karrion Kross, Scarlett & Paul Ellering) (6:58)

Kross interfered allowing Rezar to take over on Woods. However, Odyssey Jones appeared (wearing a New Day shirt) to take out Kross. Woods rolled up Rezar for the pinfall win.

— AOP attacked Woods but Jones made the save in the ring. Jones actually got both Akam and Rezar up at the same time for a double side slam. The crowd popped big for that. New Day celebrated with Jones. (Kingston seemed pumped about Jones, but Woods was much more reserved.)

*******

JD McDonagh cut a pre-taped promo. McDonagh said Priest was only champion as long as he was thanks to Judgment Day. McDonagh sacrificed his body for Priest but Priest never even wanted him in their group. Bálor trusted him more than Priest. McDonagh was in Judgment Day now and Priest wasn’t. McDonagh was a champion and Priest wasn’t. McDonagh would make Priest suffer tonight.

********

Kingston celebrated with Jones backstage and Jones said he was honoured to help out New Day. Kingston introduced Woods to Jones. They shook hands. Woods didn’t know they were friends. Jones said they bumped into each other and Jones offered to help. Alpha Academy joined and Tozawa did a little dance with Woods.

********

Austin Theory & Grayson Waller defeated R-Truth & The Miz (7:33)

They had the match you’d expect (not a good thing). Miz was in control but Truth tagged himself in. Truth gave Waller an AA but accidentally knocked Miz out of the ring in the process. Waller wasn’t the legal man, so Theory hit Truth with his finisher for the pinfall win.

Miz was upset but hugged Truth anyway.

********

Priest cut a pre-taped promo in response to McDonagh. Priest said Bálor was the only one who wanted McDonagh in Judgment Day. McDonagh had a small brain for someone with such a big head. McDonagh didn’t realize he was being sent by Bálor to catch the first bullet. Priest warned he’d still have plenty left in the chamber for Bálor. Priest planned on sending McDonagh to hell.

[THIRD HOUR]

Cathy Kelley interviewed Bron Breakker. Kelley asked if he was prepared for the onslaught of superstars who were coming for the title. Bron noticed how many wrestlers like to talk about how long they’ve held the title. How many days, how many years, whatever.

It’s been under three years since he debuted on WWE television, including NXT, and it took less than three years to win the IC title. As far as he was concerned, he was the hunter and everyone else was the hunted. “I’m coming for everyone.” He felt sorry for everyone else.

A lot of people thought he was born for this moment but he wasn’t — the title was born for him. He showed us his nameplate and said no man could take his name off of his title.

********

Damian Priest defeated JD McDonagh (w/Carlito) via disqualification (10:21)

They gave McDonagh a lot in this match. Priest was too preoccupied with Carlito so McDonagh shoved him into the ring post and hit a suicide dive. McDonagh hit a moonsault following a break for two. The crowd chanted, “JD sucks.”

Priest hit a flatliner and no-sold McDonagh’s slaps. Priest hit an elbow strike and a falcon arrow. McDonagh rolled outside so Priest shoved him over the announce desk before rolling him back in the ring. Priest hit a clothesline before kicking Carlito off the apron.

Priest set up for a chokeslam but Bálor attacked him from behind for the DQ.

— Priest sat up upon seeing Bálor but everyone swarmed Priest. Morgan and Dom entered too.

Priest fought them off and got his hands on Bálor. Priest set up for Razor’s Edge but Morgan yanked Bálor down and he escaped.

Priest got in Morgan’s face but Dom chop-blocked him. They attacked Priest until Rhea Ripley stormed out to a big pop. Dom and Morgan tried to run away but Ripley got her hands on Morgan. She chucked Morgan repeatedly into the ring post and set up for Razor’s Edge on the table but Dom grabbed Morgan and they escaped.

That left McDonagh alone in the ring. Ripley headbutted him and Priest gave him a chokeslam.

Priest and Ripley hugged.

The crowd was super hot for this. They loved Ripley as usual and they’re into Priest as well.

********

Roman Reigns will be on Friday’s Smackdown.

********

Deville, Baszler and Stark attacked Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane backstage. They targeted Kai’s knee and told her to stay out of their business.

********

Deville, Baszler and Stark attacked Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane backstage. They targeted Kai’s knee and told her to stay out of their business.

After a break, Deville entered and said there wouldn’t be a match because Kai was under the weather. Sky entered for the match instead.

Iyo Sky (w/Kairi Sane) defetead Sonya Deville (w/Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark) (9:02)

This was the third match to go to break a minute in. Deville paid tribute to SummerSlam by running shoulder-first into the ring post. Sky kicked her leg out of her leg and hit a missile dropkick for two. (A very small collection of fans chanted “This is boring,” as others chanted for Sky.)

Deville responded with a knee strike for two. Sky hit a double knee strike in the corner but Stark put Deville’s foot on the ropes. This led to Sky wiping out Sky and Baszler with a moonsault to the outside while Sane nailed Stark with an Insane elbow to the outside.

Sky followed with a moonsault in the ring for the pinfall win.

********

Ilja Dragunov reminded Sami Zayn that he was a champion who inspired others. Zayn thanked him and said he would be a great champion too one day. Dragunov left and Jey Uso entered.

Zayn was down but Jey tried cheering him up. Jey said he’d shake it off and pick himself up. Zayn said this one in particular felt like a hard pill to swallow. Jey said he’d get his rematch and get his title back.

Zayn was faking us out and was in a good mood after all. Zayn told Jey he already talked to Pearce about getting his rematch next week. Jey was excited and said maybe he could become a double champion after they finish their business with Judgment Day and win the tag titles. They shook hands.

********

Chad Gable cut a quick promo in the back on the way to the ring. He and the Creeds wore matching blue and black gear. They have new music and it appears their team name is “American Made.” The crowd chanted “You suck” to the music.

********

Next week on Raw in Austin, TX:

  • Breakker vs. Zayn for the IC title – 2 out of 3 falls match
  • Sky & Sane vs. Baszler & Stark – number one contender’s match

********

Six-man tag match: Wyatt Sicks defeated Chad Gable & The Creed Brothers (11:01)

The Wyatt Sicks entered to “Shatter” by Code Orange.

There was a quick brawl that led to Gable and the Creeds being sent from the ring. The crowd chanted “This is awesome” as the dust settled on the Wyatt entrance.

Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis wrestled without their masks. Uncle Howdy/Bo Dallas watched from the aisle in his rocking chair while wearing the full Uncle Howdy getup. Abby the Witch/Nikki Cross sat by his feet. (Cole referred to her by both names.)

The Wyatt Sicks were in full control and they powerbombed Lumis out of the ring onto all three American Made members.

Gable had control over Gacy after a break (with no explanation or replay) and the crowd chanted, “We want Rowan.” American Made took turns hitting him with moonsault variations but Lumis broke up the cover. Gacy came back with a double clothesline and Rowan made the hot tag. Rowan ran wild and dunked Gable onto the barricade.

Rowan paid tribute to Brodie Lee with a slingshot senton. Rowan followed with a powerslam but the Creeds broke up the cover. Lumis wiped them out with a dive. Gable gave Rowan a German suplex for two. Gacy and Lumis each hit Julius and Brutus with uranages onto the announce table.

That left Gable alone. Gacy powerbombed Lumis onto Gable and Lumis followed with a splash for the pinfall win.

— The Wyatt Sicks posed around the lantern as the show ended.

(This was fine for what it was. They weren’t going crazy or anything but the crowd enjoyed this.)

Show Recap —

Gunther (in a Chevy Suburban), Finn Bálor, JD McDonagh, Maxxine Dupri, Otis, Akira Tozawa, Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers were all shown arriving at the arena.

Seth Rollins delivers his referee instructions

Seth Rollins entered wearing a black and white striped shirt with puffy sleeves and zebra-print shoes. Rollins called out the two “morons” facing at SummerSlam.

CM Punk entered first (and deliberately came face-to-face with Rollins upon hitting the ring), McIntyre entered second. Rollins reminded us that they could not touch each other or else their SummerSlam match was off. They also couldn’t lay a finger on him.

Punk rolled out of the ring upon hearing this. McIntyre told him he could wait until Saturday and invited him back in the ring. Punk said he wasn’t worried about what McIntyre or Rollins might do, he was worried about what he might do if he stayed in the ring.

Rollins threatened to return his shirt to Adam Pearce and call the whole thing off but he knew everyone wanted the match. He demanded Punk get back in the ring. Punk got back in the ring while calling Rollins a boot-licking office boy.

McIntyre told Rollins that Punk was a cancer, poisoning the minds of everyone including the young talent in NXT. McIntyre called Punk the real enemy. Rollins wanted them to shut up so he could give his instructions for their violent masterpiece on Saturday.

There was only one rule at SummerSlam: Rollins was in charge. Rollins was the law. He would count to three when he wanted to. They could only tap out when he said so. A countout could be a count of ten or twenty or a million. Disqualifications would be at his discretion. If they didn’t listen to him, he would put their head in the dirt.

Punk hoped Rollins would referee better than he dressed. He called Rollins a liar for claiming he would call it down the middle. Punk didn’t want to get screwed and didn’t want anyone’s help.

McIntyre reminded Punk that he was the one he should be worried about. McIntyre compared him to Charles Manson, poisoning everyone’s minds. McIntyre can’t even go to the store without people chanting Punk’s name at him.

McIntyre said he injured Punk at Royal Rumble and he wasn’t even trying to. McIntyre would violently assault Punk on Saturday. McIntyre said Rollins might hate them but he had compassion in his soul. McIntyre wouldn’t stop until Punk’s heart stopped. McIntyre looked forward to getting paid a large sum for doing something he’d gladly do for free.

Punk said he was gone for ten years and they chanted his name. They chanted his name and sang Rollins’ song, which made McIntyre the third wheel. Punk said the one positive of PDS, Punk Derangement Syndrome, was that they get to be in his orbit. They get to breathe the rare air he produces. Punk hoped McIntyre enjoyed the last six months because hurting him was the best and worst thing to happen to him.

Punk called McIntyre tall, big and mean but he was also stupid. He dumbed himself out of the title at WrestleMania. Punk may be his enemy but he wasn’t his worst one. Punk was the best in the world. He wasn’t as big, strong or even as fast as McIntyre but he had heart. He also had the people chanting his name. Punk wondered what McIntyre had.

McIntyre pulled out Punk’s family bracelet. Punk got in his face but, of course, couldn’t touch him. They exchanged a few words as Punk’s music played and the segment ended.

(I didn’t really like this. It wasn’t bad but it mostly felt like more of the same. It felt like they were really building to Punk’s response at the end and it fell kinda flat. He also seemed to place an odd amount of emphasis on the crowd chanting his name.)

********

Judgment Day’s clubhouse was torn apart and Carltio was particularly upset about the PS5 being destroyed. Dominik Mysterio played dumb and wondered who could have done it. Rhea Ripley said it was obviously Liv Morgan but she would get hers.

Damian Priest joined them after a commercial break. He offered to be in Bálor’s corner tonight but Bálor declined. He wanted Priest to focus on SummerSlam and he would deal with Gunther tonight. Bálor trusted them to take care of Sami Zayn and Jey Uso. Dom volunteered Carlito to face Zayn. Judgment Day were surprised when Carlito willingly left to get the match made.

********

Michael Cole mentioned Julis Creed and Brutus Creed participating at Bloodsport over the weekend.

The Creed Brothers (w/Chad Gable) defeated Otis & Akira Tozawa (w/Maxxine Dupri) (7:48)

Otis made a hot tag after a break and gave Julius the Caterpillar. He punched Gable off the apron but the distraction allowed the Creeds to give Otis a double back suplex off the middle rope for the pinfall win. The crowd liked Otis so they went quiet after that.

— Gable and the Creeds attacked Otis post-match. Gable put him in an ankle lock until Dupri leaped on his back. Gable got her off but she slapped him. Dupri put her hands up ready to defend herself when the lights went off and the Wyatt Sicks music started.

Wyatt Sicks angle

Three male members of the Wyatts entered and unmasked themselves upon hitting the ring. It was Erick Rowan, Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy. The crowd chanted, “Holy shit.”

Gable turned around to leave but was taken out by a Nikki Cross Thesz press off the top (she was referred to as Sister Abigail by Cole). Lumis and Gacy dropped the Creeds with uranages, and Rowan followed with a running crossbody.

Gable left up the aisle but ran away upon seeing Uncle Howdy/Bo Dallas.

********

Dom and Ripley were annoyed to learn that Carlito actually got Dom booked in a match against Zayn. Ripley said Carlito could take out Jey in a match instead. Carlito said he would need to get his baby oil first. Ripley told him that he’d be facing Jey alone.

********

Bronson Reed defeated Sheamus (10:00)

Sheamus hit a flying clothesline to the outside but Reed gave him a back body drop onto the announce table. They went to break after 90 seconds and Sheamus fought back with clotheslines and a running knee for two. Sheamus missed a flying clothesline and Reed hit a DVD for two.

Sheamus hit a White Noise off the middle rope for a nearfall. The crowd got up for that. Sheamus hit ten sixteen beats of the Bodhrán until the referee yanked him off. Reed was “stuck” in the ropes and the referee tried to help as Sheamus set up for a Brogue Kick.

With the ref conveniently distracted, Pete Dunne hit Sheamus with a shillelagh. Reed followed with Tsunami for the pinfall win.

********

Damian Priest promo

They aired a pre-taped Priest promo. He said Gunther didn’t understand his upbringing. Gunther was brought up with Here you gos. If he needed the best training facility and training team? “Here you go.” A group of people to tell him how great he is? “Here you go.” Gunther didn’t have what couldn’t be given to him. He didn’t have heart.

Gunther may call him “street trash” but to Priest that translated to Puerto Rican badass. Gunther was a product of European ingenuity and that translated to “you’re an asshole.” The ring would become the street at SummerSlam and Gunther was getting mugged. He was robbing Gunther of the idea that he could take the title for him.

Priest fought for everything he got and he was willing to die for everything he had. “Welcome to my neighbourhood.”

********

The SummerSlam pre-show is three hours long. The kick-off show is at 5pm ET and the countdown show is at 4pm ET. The main show starts at 7pm ET.

********

Bron Breakker promo

They aired a pre-taped Breakker promo. He said Zayn was at the top of his profession: stand-up comedy. Bron admitted to taking him lightly at MITB because he didn’t want to put his hands on a comic.

The difference between them was that Zayn has already accepted he would lose at SummerSlam. There was nowhere to run and Zayn was already preparing for a life after WWE. They even promote his comedy show on Raw.

While Zayn did that, Bron was training in the gym like a dog. That would be on full display on Saturday when the joke would be on Zayn and the Intercontinental Championship would be on him.

********

Jey Uso defeated Carlito (7:50)

Carlito got the heat through an early commercial break after shoving Jey into the ring post. Jey fought back with strikes to the sound of “Yeet.” Carlito hit a spinebuster for two and decided to eat an apple in the middle of this wrestling match for no reason. He even argued with the referee over it. Jey applied a schoolboy for two and followed with a spear for the pinfall win.

Jey should have just won a quick squash but this match followed the usual TV match pattern.

********

Jackie Redmond interviewed Zelina Vega and asked about her arm (which was in a sling). Vega felt good but was lucky to have Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance at her side last week. She picked up the win and reminded everyone she was a threat.

Sonya Deville, Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark showed up and mocked her for thinking she was a threat. They teamed up on her and Baszler stomped her arm against a door. Officials appeared to check on Vega. (Valkyria, Carter and Chance checked on her after a break.)

*******

NXT will be on Syfy tomorrow (and next week) and Joe Hendry was among the acts they plugged.

They showed clips from the Japan tour.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed The Miz who announced that he would be the host of SummerSlam in his house of Cleveland. R-Truth showed up and was excited to hear they brought back ‘In Your House.’ Miz tried to explain the situation as clearly as possible but Truth was too stupid to understand. He even said Gary Coleman’s line, “Whatcha talkin’ about, Willis?”

They really have to drop this Truth act.

********

Karrion Kross cut a pre-match promo. He heard Kofi Kingston wasn’t there because he re-injured himself on the Japan tour. He didn’t believe that and thought Kingston didn’t show up because he wasn’t in the spotlight. He also figured Kingston didn’t want to be in his hellhole of Minnesota.

Kross offered Xavier Woods a spot in Final Testament. Kross wanted Woods to tell the kids at home that the power of positivity was always a lie. He also wanted Woods to tell “that one-armed bastard” Kingston that he should have retired after he lost the WWE Championship in six seconds. Woods decked Kross and the ref thought this was a good time to start the match.

Karrion Kross (w/Scarlett & Final Testament) defeated Xavier Woods (6:22)

Kross took control during an early break by tripping Woods off the ropes. Woods was making his comeback but Akam gave him a cheap shot behind the ref’s back. Woods fought back anyway and took out Akam with a dive. He avoided a charge by Rezar who ran into the ring post.

However, Kross dodged Woods’ diving elbow drop attempt and hit Final Prayer for the pinfall win.

This was another flat match with a flat finish.

********

They showed Triple H meeting with Jesse Ventura earlier today. Cole put over Ventura and welcomed him home.

********

Redmond interviewed Sami Zayn. Zayn thought Bron’s logic was funny. Bron thought Zayn would lose because he had a comedy show before SummerSlam but Zayn had a comedy show before their match at MITB in Toronto and he still won.

Zayn knew Bron was no longer underestimating him. He knew that because Bron was taking every opportunity to jump him from behind. He finally got to reunite with Jey Uso last week and Bron still attacked him from behind. Saturday would not be about teaching any lessons, it would be about beating someone’s ass.

********

Liv Morgan segment

A teary-eyed Liv Morgan was shown dumping pictures of Dom into a burning dumpster. She said Dom wasn’t a man, he was just Ripley’s bitch. Morgan regretted every tear she shed over him. She would complete her revenge tour when she beats Ripley and leaves Dom with whatever is left of her.

********

Non-title match: Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn defeated Dominik Mysterio via disqualification (8:05)

Zayn crunched Dom with a dive and, as usual, they went to break after 90 seconds. Dom took control by shoving Zayn into the ring post, just as Carlito did earlier. Zayn fought back until Dom cut him off and hit three amigos. Zayn avoided a splash and hit an exploder into the corner.

Carlito and McDonagh ran out and Dom used the distraction to apply a schoolboy for two. Zayn knocked Carlito and McDonagh off the apron but Dom used that distraction to dropkick him into the ropes. Zayn popped up before Dom could go for 619. He hit a clothesline and Blue Thunder Bomb but Judgment Day attacked him for the DQ.

— Judgment Day put the boots to Zayn until Jey ran out to make the save. Jey wiped them all out with a dive.

Breakker decked Zayn from behind in the ring. He went for a spear but Zayn booted him, which looked great. Zayn went for Helluva Kick but Bron bailed. Zayn turned his back so Bron tried to go after him again but Zayn saw it coming and shoved him out of the ring.

********

Wyatt Sicks tape

They didn’t bother going through the VHS tape ordeal and just aired another Wyatt Sicks video. This one focused on Dexter Lumis and, like the Nikki Cross video, this one was meant to be creepy.

********

Gable informed Pearce of the identities of the other three male Wyatt members: Lumis, Gacy and Rowan. Pearce said he knew that already because they’re under WWE contracts. Gable said that must mean they can compete. He challenged them to a six-man tag. Pearce asked the Creeds if that’s what they wanted and Julius said, “Of course.” Pearce made it official.

********

Rhea Ripley promo

Ripley said Morgan wanted so badly to be the victim in her revenge tour fantasy because that’s all it was. A fantasy. It came to an end on Saturday. There was no more hiding or manipulating. Morgan took three months of her career, took her title, and tried to take her Latino Heat. Ripley would get her revenge at SummerSlam.

********

Cole referenced Baszler “dominating” at Bloodsport.

Six-woman tag team match: Sonya Deville, Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark defeated Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter & Katana Chance (8:34)

The babyfaces controlled before an early break and the heels controlled after it. Valkyria tagged in Carter who fought off Baszler and Stark before the babyfaces triple-teamed Stark. Valkyria hit a sit-out powerbomb but Baszler broke up the cover.

Stark killed Chance with a knee strike and hit Z-360 for the pinfall win. Another flat match in front of a particularly quiet crowd.

— Damage CTRL (Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane and Dakota Kai) marched out wearing all black (Deville, Baszler and Stark were also wearing mostly black). Damage CTRL attacked the heels and Sky dropped them with a moonsault to the outside. They appeared to be babyfaces now.

********

Gunther promo

Gunther called Priest a man with no control over his emotions. Gunther exposed him as an emotional wannabe who abused this business as a cure for his childhood trauma.

Gunther used to look up to Finn Bálor. Bálor used to be one of the greatest wrestlers in the world and was currently one-half of the tag champions. Bálor was destined for greatness but he aligned himself with those Judgment Day weirdos and became street trash just like them.

Gunther would never forgive Priest for using the business to cover up his pathetic existence. After SummerSlam, the world would remember the day Gunther saved this great sport and the world championship.

********

Kelley interviewed Damage CTRL in the back. Sky and Sane responded in Japanese. Kai said Damage CTRL was back to reestablish some order. Kai challenged Deville to a match next week so she could cut the head off the snake.

The announcers ran down the SummerSlam card.

********

A dismayed Judgment Day met in the back. Bálor said they got in this mess together and they would get out of it together after SummerSlam. Ripley agreed and said they needed to focus on SummerSlam. She offered their help to Bálor tonight once again.

Bálor wanted to make things clear. Ripley and Priest were both handling their business alone at SummerSlam and Bálor wanted to do the same tonight — unless they thought he wasn’t good enough. They assured him that was not the case. Priest didn’t trust Gunther but he knew Bálor could handle his business.

Bálor said he would soften up Gunther so Priest could finish him at SummerSlam. They bumped fists.

********

Raw next week on Syfy in Baltimore, MD:

  • Six-man tag match: Wyatt Sicks (Rowan, Lumis & Gacy) vs. Gable & Creed Brothers
  • Dakota Kai vs. Sonya Deville

********

Gunther defeated Tag Team Champion Finn Bálor (12:08)

This was a first-time-ever match.

Bálor hit Gunther with three chops but Gunther basically no sold them and dropped Bálor with a chop. Bálor fought back but Gunther booted him leading to break 90 seconds in. Bálor tried fighting back with chops but Gunther chopped him down again and hit a backdrop for two. Gunther applied a Boston Crab (which he’s won several matches with) but Bálor got a rope break.

Gunther tried an avalanche back suplex but Bálor countered into a crossbody. Bálor followed with strikes and a headlock elbow drop for two. Gunther applied a sleeper hold but let go to try a powerbomb. Bálor reversed that into a DDT and hit a clothesline but Gunther barely budged and he dropped Bálor with a clothesline of his own for two.

They exchanged chops and strikes until Bálor hit a slingblade, consecutive double foot stomps, a double foot stomp to the back and a running dropkick. Gunther avoided Coup de Grace and applied another sleeper. Bálor wouldn’t go out so Gunther hit a powerbomb for two.

Gunther again applied a sleeper and Bálor fought out momentarily but Gunther locked it in and Bálor passed out. Gunther wins.

(This was a pretty good match in front of the wrong crowd. I also liked the finish.)

— As Gunther was announced the winner, he reapplied the sleeper as the ref tried pulling him off.

Priest ran out for the save. He swung wildly at Gunther and tossed him onto the announce table. Priest chucked Gunther around ringside as the show went off the air.

Show Recap —

CM Punk (who received a loud pop), Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker (shirtless) and Judgment Day were shown arriving at the building. Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley were all buddy-buddy, while Carlito trailed in the back carrying luggage.

Michael Cole announced that Raw would be on Syfy for the following two weeks.

Opening segment

Gunther entered. He wanted to explain himself after reflecting on what he said to Priest last week. The crowd booed and chanted “You suck.” After it seemed like he might take back what he said, he doubled down instead.

Gunther got angry and said he meant every word he said last week. Priest and everyone in the building was a bum. Everyone knew Priest did not live up to the prestige and honour of the world title. Priest’s sob story of growing up on the streets didn’t make up for the fact that he was a pretender and a wannabe.

Gunther said there was a saying where he came from: show me your friends and I’ll show you who you are. Gunther knew the Judgment Day and knew they were all street trash. Gunther called out Priest and offered to take the weight of the world title off his shoulder again.

Priest marched out and decked Gunther. They brawled as referees tried breaking it up. That wasn’t enough so security and officials ran out too. Priest managed to break away a few times and attacked Gunther before they cut to break. (He also chucked a guard over the ropes onto a bunch of others.)

— After a break, Jackie Redmond was about to approach Gunther for an interview as he paced near the exit but Priest attacked him again. Officials decided to show up again and separate them.

(This was a good, simple angle. The segments last week and today are clearly trying to make sure you know Priest is at least on Gunther’s level.)

********

Pat McAfee mentioned that Breakker spearing Dragunov last week made the SportsCenter Top 10.

Bron Breakker defeated Ilja Dragunov via referee stoppage (13:05)

Breakker won a really good match to earn an Intercontinental Championship match against Sami Zayn at SummerSlam.

There was a great spot early in the match. Each guy stood on the apron and Breakker got Dragunov up in a vertical suplex position before dropping him gut-first on top of the ring post.

After a break, Breakker cut off Dragunov’s comeback attempt with a big gut buster. Dragunov responded with a DDT. Dragunov got the better of a strike exchange and hit a Constantine Special. Dragunov heavily sold the earlier post spot but still managed to hit a powerbomb for two.

Breakker came back with his step-up Frankensteiner for a nearfall. The crowd popped big for that. Dragunov responded with a superplex and H-bomb but Breakker rolled to the apron before he could make a cover. Dragunov followed with a DVD onto the apron. The crowd chanted, “This is awesome” for the second time.

Dragunov tried a strike off the apron but Breakker cut him down with a mid-air spear. The ref began counting out Dragunov but after checking on him, she called for the bell instead. Breakker won.

The crowd booed the ref stoppage but they cheered the announcement of Breakker as the winner.

********

Ripley approached Judgment Day (minus Priest) and told them to stop playing the video game. She wanted them to focus and said it wouldn’t be long until they all held gold again.

Dominik Mysterio approached Ripley. He was insecure about her interactions with Jey Uso last week. Ripley was just messing around — unlike what Dom has been doing with Liv Morgan.

Finn Bálor popped out of his seat and said they needed to take out Jey. Ripley said Jey didn’t matter. Bálor wondered why she was defending him. Ripley wasn’t defending Jey, she just didn’t want to start a war with him. She told Dom to use his brain. After Ripley left, Bálor told Dom he knew what to do.

********

Adam Pearce was in the back with Drew McIntyre and the two referees he refused to apologize to last week. They appeared to reach some sort of agreement. McIntyre shook Pearce’s hand and left.

*******

Xavier Woods, Maxxine Dupri and Otis celebrated Akira Tozawa’s birthday with cake.

Cole announced that Priest and Gunther have been ejected from the building.

********

Sonya Deville (w/Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark) defeated Lyra Valkyria (w/Kayden Carter & Katana Chance) (8:08)

Valkyria tried a dropkick but fell through the ropes and Deville chucked her into the barricade. Valkyria hit a middle rope superplex after a break, followed by strikes and a Northern Lights suplex for two.

Valkyria blocked Deville’s finisher and hit a gutwrench powerbomb for two. (The move took a long time to execute because Deville was holding Lyra’s body for too long and you could hear Lyra yelling, “Let go! Let go!”)

Baszler distracted the ref, allowing Stark to push Valkyria off the top rope. The teams on the outside brawled but the distraction allowed Deville to hit her weak finisher, Deville’s Advocate, for the pinfall win.

*******

Wyatt Sicks video

This week’s video focused on Nikki Cross. This was not at all grounded like Erick Rowan’s promo. This was a quick video and made Cross look like a horror movie monster.

********

CM Punk walked through the back. He’s up next.

[SECOND HOUR]

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre segment

Punk entered and took time to high-five fans along the front row and also shook hands with Samantha Irvin. The crowd chanted for Punk.

He said it was great to be in Green Bay. He wore pink shoes and was ready to stain them with McIntyre’s blood. Punk announced that he was cleared and he called out McIntyre. He taped up his hands as he waited.

McIntyre entered. McIntyre said he’s been waiting forever for this and nothing was stopping him from getting in the ring and tearing Punk apart — “except the fact that I don’t want to.” Punk responded, “Well, I do.” Punk ran out of the ring but was cut off by officials. (McIntyre wasn’t worried and seemed to know officials would be there.)

McIntyre told Punk to relax because their match was much bigger than Green Bay. He told Punk to learn how to control his emotions like him. When McIntyre wanted to calm down, he turned to family. McIntyre pulled out Punk’s bracelet (with the names of AJ Lee and Larry on them) to egg him on.

Pearce entered to make things clear: McIntyre was reinstated and Punk was cleared. McIntyre vs. Punk was official for SummerSlam.

Punk wanted to do it now. Pearce said they had to keep their hands off of each other or else their match would be cancelled. Whoever threw the first punch would be suspended indefinitely.

Pearce said he also had a referee problem which brought out Seth Rollins. Neither McIntyre nor Punk seemed thrilled about this.

Rollins said these two morons have scared away everyone from getting between them (he said this as officials stood between Punk and the ring). Rollins said he thrived on chaos and would love to put them in their place. Rollins announced that he was the special referee for their match and the crowd popped.

McIntyre and Punk hit the ring (Punk was held on the apron) and stared each other down as Rollins pranced around between them.

********

Judgment Day split up in the back to look for Jey Uso. (Carlito went with JD McDonagh.) Dom, of course, ran into Liv Morgan seconds later. Dom tried to ignore her but she followed him.

Morgan tried to assure Dom everything would be ok. Dom said everything was ok, he and Ripley were good. Morgan seemed pleased to hear him say that. Bálor ran back in so Morgan left. Bálor was annoyed and told Dom to go look for Jey in the opposite direction that Morgan went.

********

Rhea Ripley, Cody Rhodes and Rey Mysterio will be playable characters in season 5 of whatever version of Call of Duty is out now.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Zayn and asked if he was concerned at all after seeing what Breakker did to Dragunov. Zayn wasn’t concerned but was taking him very seriously. Zayn warned Breakker not to make the same mistake at Money in the Bank and said Breakker better take him very seriously.

There was a commotion nearby so Zayn went to see what it was. Carlito and McDonagh were attacking Jey Uso so Zayn made the save. Zayn was killing McDonagh so Carlito grabbed JD and dragged him away.

*******

They showed Otis and Braun Strowman hanging out with the Green Bay Packers at their training camp.

Six-man tag match: Karrion Kross & AOP (w/Scarlett & Paul Ellering) defeated Xavier Woods, Otis & Akira Tozawa (w/Maxxine Dupri) (8:35)

Tozawa hit Rezar with a suicide dive and ripped off his shirt like Hulk Hogan which led to McAfee saying, “Brother!” McAfee also gave Aaron Rodgers a shout-out during the match.

The crowd popped when Otis made a hot tag and ran wild. Tozawa also wiped out Rezar with a dive. Woods hammered away on Kross but made a dumb mistake by superkicking Akam off the apron. Kross used the distraction to hit Woods with Final Prayer (a modified F5) for the pinfall win. This was a lacklustre finish.

Alpha Academy / Wyatt Sicks segment

— Chad Gable entered with Julius and Brutus Creed as Otis, Tozawa and Dupri checked on Woods. (They went to break before the segment continued and Woods was gone.)

Gable addressed the former Alpha Academy members in the ring. Gable wanted to help his former pupils because that’s the kind of guy he was. Gable noted that Otis has taken on a leadership role but that led to them losing.

Gable said Otis’ brain wasn’t his strongest attribute but it was his, and that’s why he recruited the Creeds. Gable offered them one final opportunity to rejoin his team. Gable said they’d get extra protection from the Wyatt Sicks who were out for everyone.

Otis noted that Gable left the Creeds on their own last week (when the Wyatt Sicks entered). Otis told him: “My answer is still ‘no.’” Gable wondered if Tozawa and Dupri would let Otis speak for them. They embraced Otis. Gable commanded the Creeds to attack and they did.

Otis dropped both Creeds with a double clothesline. He grabbed Gable and set up for a World’s Strongest Slam but the Creeds attacked from behind. They put the boots to Otis and drove him into the ring post.

Gable gave chairs to the Creeds but the lights went down and the Wyatt Sicks music started. The Creeds stood in front of the ring with chairs in hand to protect Gable.

Four Wyatt members entered on the stage but Gable turned around to see Uncle Howdy/Bo Dallas. (He wore a sleeveless shirt instead of the big trench coat.) Bo dropped Gable with Sister Abigail and posed like Bray Wyatt. The crowd popped big for Sister Abigail.

********

Bronson Reed vs. Pete Dunne

The match didn’t happen. Dunne entered the ring for the match but was clobbered by a Sheamus running knee. Reed tried to go after Sheamus but Sheamus knocked him down with a knee strike too.

Sheamus hit Dunne with ten beats of the Bodhrán but Dunne escaped before Sheamus could go for a Brogue Kick. Sheamus knocked Reed out of the ring with a knee strike instead. Sheamus stared down Dunne as the segment ended.

********

Ripley approached Judgment Day. Carlito admitted their plan didn’t go so well. Bálor was tired of being disrespected and said he got a tag match made with him and McDonagh against Jey and Zayn tonight. Bálor also got Pearce to give him a match against Gunther next week.

Ripley didn’t want them going after Jey and also wasn’t happy that Zayn was now involved. Ripley wondered where Bálor and Dom were when everything went down and Carlito said, “Ask Liv.” Ripley grabbed Dom and told him they were going to the ring.

********

Redmond interviewed Sheamus. He knew Reed wanted to be the man who took down the Celtic Warrior but was still scratching his head over Dunne’s issue. He said they could go to the pub and have a pint while they sort things out, or they could get in the ring and find out who the real Bruiserweight was.

[THIRD HOUR]

Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan segment

Ripley dragged Dom to the ring and called out Morgan. Morgan’s music hit but she appeared in the stands and cut her promo from there. Morgan said she had self-control and could wait until SummerSlam.

Morgan had feelings for Dom and he had feelings for her too. Morgan said Ripley couldn’t deny it because gorgeous men like Dom didn’t go after women who looked like Ripley — “they go for girls who look like me.” Morgan did a little spin to show her butt.

Ripley tried to leave the ring to go after Morgan but Dom held her back and pleaded with her. Morgan invited Dom to say those three little words.

Dom responded, “You want those three words?” Dom fired up and continued: “I hate you, Liv! Are you stupid? Are you deaf? I don’t like you! You’ve ruined my life over and over again.”

Dom cut part of his promo in Spanish and said he couldn’t stand Morgan. Morgan was sobbing and Ripley wore a big smile. Dom slammed the mic down as Morgan walked into the concourse in tears. Ripley whispered something to Dom and licked his face. They were happy.

*******

Kelley interviewed Zelina Vega on the stage before her match and asked about her arm injury (caused by Baszler and Stark last week). Vega had a slipper in her hand. Her arm was in some sort of brace, heavily taped from her elbow down to her hand. Vega said nobody could keep her down. It was time to prove people wrong and shut people up.

Vega could barely move her arm and it certainly didn’t look like she should be cleared for a match.

********

The announcers wished Shawn Michaels a happy birthday and literally sang the birthday song.

Zelina Vega defeated Zoey Stark (w/Sonya Deville & Shayna Baszler) (8:49)

Stark worked over Vega’s arm before and after a break. Vega came back with an enziguri, DDT and moonsault for two. Stark blocked a Code Red and hit a superkick for two.

Vega set up for 619 but Deville distracted the ref and Baszler tripped Vega. Valkyria, Carter and Chance ran out to take out Deville and Baszler.

Stark set up for a powerbomb but Vega used her hard arm brace to hit her repeatedly in the head. Vega followed with a Code Red for the pinfall win.

********

Woods asked Pearce for a match against Kross next week. Pearce accepted.

McIntyre approached Pearce to complain about Rollins being the referee. McIntyre wondered how this was fair, especially after McIntyre took Rollins’ title at WrestleMania.

Pearce told McIntyre that all three men would be in the ring next week to hear Rollins give them his “official referee instructions.” (Pearce left because he needed a drink even though the show still has 40 minutes left.)

McIntyre said what we were all thinking: What the hell does that even mean?

********

Redmond interviewed Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn. They’ll be on Smackdown to address Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. They were quickly interrupted by Baszler, Deville and Stark (appearing for the third time). They argued about the tag titles.

********

There was a new Gunther video. He spoke about past champions who were all weighed down by fragile egos. They were simple men who shrank in front of the title. That’s why the WWE and the world title desperately needed him — to create a new mountaintop.

The burden of being the workhorse drove Rollins into the ground. McIntyre was consumed by an afterthought like Punk and barely held on to the title for five minutes. Priest’s foundation was cracking and his dream was slipping away.

Gunther didn’t respect the entertainers. The ring was sacred and he was the only one who could bring prestige to the title. The future of the sport was on the line at SummerSlam. The sport desperately needed him and he would become the world champion.

********

Next week on Raw:

  • Rollins gives Punk and McIntyre his referee instructions
  • Bálor vs. Gunther
  • Six-woman tag: Deville, Baszler & Stark vs. Valkyria, Carter & Chance

********

Jey and Sami made their entrance through a concourse full of rowdy fans.

Non-title match: IC Champion Sami Zayn & Jey Uso defeated Tag Team Champions Finn Bálor & JD McDonagh (w/Dominik & Carlito) (16:50)

Zayn wiped out his opponents with a dive but Dom distracted the ref and Carlito posted Zayn. Judgment Day worked over Zayn after a break. McDonagh chopped Zayn but Zayn chopped him right back and hit Blue Thunder Bomb.

Jey made the hot tag and hit Bálor with strikes, a thrust kick, an uppercut and an enziguri. Jey gave McDonagh a running hip attack and hit Bálor with a flying crossbody for two. Jey tried a Samoan drop but Bálor raked his face and hit a headlock elbow drop. Jey fought off McDonagh and superkicked Bálor as he came off the top rope.

Zayn tagged in but Carlito distracted the ref as Dom prevented him from trying a Helluva Kick. McDonagh followed with a Spanish Fly for two. Jey made a blind tag and they gave McDonagh a 1-D but Bálor broke up the cover.

Bálor tagged himself in and hit Jey with a slingblade. Jey came back with a superkick and knocked Carlito and Dom off the apron. McDonagh wrenched Jey over the rope and Bálor followed with a running dropkick. Bálor hit Coup de Grace and McDonagh hit a moonsault but Zayn just barely broke up the cover.

Zayn tossed Bálor from the ring and hit McDonagh with a Helluva Kick. Zayn wiped out Judgment Day with a dive and Jey hit McDonagh with an Uso Splash for the pinfall win.

— As Jey celebrated on the ropes, Breakker speared Zayn. Jey turned around but Breakker left the ring. Jey checked on Zayn as Breakker looked on and the show ended.

WWE Raw live results: Rhea Ripley returns

Date: July 15, 2024
Location: Nutter Center at Wright State University in Dayton, OH

Show Recap —

There was a video package for the Liv Morgan, Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley storyline. (The video was actually already underway as the show began.)

Ripley walked through the back, through the curtain and to the ring. She received a big ovation and announced, “Mami’s home.”

She said it’s been exactly three months since she’s been in the ring, thanks to Morgan. Morgan has been running around with something of hers but it wasn’t Dominik Mysterio. Ripley would deal with Dom later. Morgan was holding the championship that Ripley never lost. Morgan thinks she took out Ripley but all she really did was piss her off. Ripley called out Morgan.

Dominik entered instead. Dom carried a single black rose. Dom was booed as he tried to address “Mamacita.” Ripley turned her back to him.

Morgan interrupted on the big screen. Morgan apologized for her raspy voice. She had a very long weekend in Mexico and everyone knew she was a big screamer. Morgan was in a great mood. She meant it when she said she wanted to take everything from Ripley. She wasn’t sure what Ripley saw in Dom before but it became clear the more she got to spend time with him and kiss him. Morgan said, “Mami might finally be home but Liv is finally on top.”

Dom tried to tell Ripley that this wasn’t what it looked like. Ripley ignored him and addressed Morgan. Ripley knew Morgan would be too afraid to appear because she knew her revenge tour was about to end. Ripley was patient enough to make her challenge for the world championship at SummerSlam. (The crowd cheered.)

Morgan knew this was the end game and warned Ripley she wasn’t the same person she knew before. Morgan helped Dom finally beat his deadbeat dad, something Ripley could never do, and Morgan would finally be Ripley too. Morgan blew a kiss and said she hoped to see Dom at SummerSlam.

Ripley said she would end Morgan’s revenge tour, title reign and career.

********

Drew McIntyre, Gunther, Ilja Dragunov and Sami Zayn were shown arriving earlier today.

Ripley walked through the back as Dom tried pleading with her. She opened the door to the Judgment Day locker room to find it filled with black roses and candles. She slammed the door on Dom’s face. Damian Priest appeared and asked Dom if everything was good. Dom admitted they were not. Ripley opened the door and chucked flowers in Dom’s face.

********

Sheamus has new theme music.

Sheamus defeated Bronson Reed (8:37)

Sheamus was in control before a break but Reed was in control after the break. Sheamus fought back and hit a White Noise for a nearfall. Reed ducked a flying clothesline and hit a sit-out powerbomb for two.

Reed missed a moonsault and Sheamus followed with a lifting knee strike (which looked like it caught him flush) for the pinfall win. The crowd was into Sheamus.

— Reed was going to attack Sheamus post-match but Pete Dunne ran in and made the save. Sheamus wanted to shake Dunne’s hand but he left the ring.

As soon as Sheamus turned his back, Dunne decked him from behind. Once Dunne left the ring, Reed gave Sheamus a Tsunami.

********

Ripley was with Judgment Day in their clubhouse. She was on the same page with Priest and asked if he needed help with Gunther or Braun Strowman tonight. Priest appreciated it but was good on his own. Ripley asked why Carlito was there. Dom entered before Priest could explain.

Dom wanted to explain himself and said he tried contacting her all week. Ripley wondered why she hadn’t heard from Dom in the three months while she was gone. She stormed off. (Ripley ripped petals off a rose and chucked it aside before she left.)

Carlito, Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh were once again playing WWE 2K24 in the background. After Ripley left, Carlito approached Dom and said, “She’s angry, huh?”

********

Dragunov approached Zayn in the back. Dragunov wanted to assure him that he didn’t help Zayn last week only to get a title match. Zayn knew that and said he was the one who asked Adam Pearce for the match.

Zayn put over Dragunov and said he reminded him of himself. It looked ugly when they fought because that’s how it should look when you’re fighting for life. That was the kind of guy he wanted to defend the title against. Zayn told Dragunov to bring his absolute best and Dragunov told him to do the same.

********

There was a great Gunther video package. It was never his dream to be here but when he got to WWE, that’s all he saw from others. All they wanted was to be just like their heroes and they lacked originality. He wiped the mat with every challenger in NXT and he outgrew it.

He went to Smackdown with the vision of saving the Intercontinental Championship. He took that prize with ease and became the greatest champion of all time. When his reign ended, he won King of the Ring with ease. He continued to see mediocrity from everyone and said the prestige of the world title would change forever at SummerSlam.

********

Jackie Redmond interviewed Zelina Vega earlier today. Vega didn’t like Morgan or Ripley. She would be at the front of the line for the title once their issue was settled because she would be champion of not for Dom.

Sonya Deville interrupted alongside Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. Deville thought it was amusing that Vega thought she was still in the front of the line.

Vega said she couldn’t hear anything past Deville’s forehead. Vega said nothing would stop her from winning the title. She made a crack about Stark (or Baszler) having a mustache and another crack about Deville’s forehead before challenging her to a match. Deville accepted.

********

Sonya Deville (w/Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark) defeated Zelina Vega (1:05)

It’s been 20 minutes since the previous match ended and this was over a minute later.

Vega hit a 619 but Deville distracted the referee as Baszler stomped Vega’s arm. Deville hit a weak-looking finisher (basically a reverse DDT) for the pinfall win.

— The heels attacked Vega after the match but Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance entered to run them off.

********

Dom asked Priest why he didn’t warn him about Ripley last week. Priest tried to tell him but he was too busy with Morgan. Priest said Dom lied to him about communicating with Ripley and about trying to end things with Morgan.

Jey Uso busted in and was amped about Ripley being back and being single. Priest actually didn’t dismiss the idea and, right in front of Dom, told Jey he might have a chance. Dom was upset so Jey told him, “When you see Mami, tell her I said ‘hi.’”

Priest goaded Dom into getting a match made against Jey. Dom scampered off to get the match made and Priest was amused with himself.

[SECOND HOUR]

Chad Gable approached Pearce and informed him that he cracked the code: Bo Dallas was Uncle Howdy. Gable also knew Pearce met with Bo last week and wanted to know what they discussed. Pearce said that was privileged. Gable wanted to know how Pearce would discipline him. Pearce told him Dallas was there tonight and suggested he deal with it himself. Gable was upset with Pearce for victim-blaming but agreed to call out Dallas.

********

Damian Priest and Gunther face-to-face

Gunther said he appreciated Priest’s continued confidence. Priest has been living out his dream as a world champion but wasn’t living up to it. “Your reign has been… nothing. No prestige, no contributions.”

Gunther said they were not cut from the same cloth. Gunther came in good spirits and wanted to lift the weight off his shoulder. He wanted to spare him the embarrassment at SummerSlam and offered to take the belt right now.

Priest wished it was SummerSlam now so he could knock the smirk off his face. Priest heard Gunther say this was not his dream. While Gunther was being handed everything in Europe, Priest was fighting for his life on the street. He fought for 20 years on the streets just to get to WWE, let alone become world champ. Priest said he earned the title and Gunther was the last person who would take it.

Gunther said being on the street was a choice. It wasn’t his fault that Priest’s parents didn’t think enough of him to provide a good life. Gunther said his parents provided him with everything because his greatness was recognized his whole life. While Priest was fighting on the streets, WWE was calling Gunther begging him to join them. They wanted to stop people like Priest from becoming the champion. Now it was up to him to restore prestige to the title. Gunther said Priest would always be street trash.

Priest warned Gunther he was coming right at him. Gunther didn’t recognize why he lost at WrestleMania and why he would lose to Priest. Gunther didn’t have heart and didn’t know what it felt like to fight for everything he had.

Priest would make sure Gunther ended up with nothing and we would find out after SummerSlam if he was anything more than a “boring, conceited, privileged, scumbag.”

They went face-to-face and Priest shoved Gunther but Strowman entered before it could go any further.

********

Pearce told Jey Uso he was facing Dom tonight. Jey was amused that Dom wanted a match and gladly accepted. He said Yeet and left.

Bron Breakker confronted Pearce. He was pissed about Dragunov getting a title shot. Breakker threatened to take out everyone involved in the match so Pearce threatened to suspend him. He was about to get security but Breakker left on his own. Pearce informed security to keep watch.

********

The first 75 minutes of the show had less than 10 minutes of wrestling and the next match was cut in half by a commercial break.

Damian Priest defeated Braun Strowman in a non-title match (8:05)

Strowman tried a running tackle outside the ring but Priest moved and Strowman crashed over the barricade, looking like a doofus in the process. After a break, Strowman tried fighting back but Priest kicked his leg out of his leg. Strowman later tried a powerslam but his leg gave out and Priest hit South of Heaven for the pinfall win.

Strowman’s leg injury gave him an out but this still felt like a decisive win for Priest.

— Gunther marched out after the match and Priest invited him into the ring. Gunther chopped Priest so Priest decked him. Gunther hit another chop but Priest clotheslined Gunther and he bailed.

********

Chad Gable approached Maxxine Dupri, Otis and Akira Tozawa. He eavesdropped on their conversation moments earlier and assumed they agreed to give him another chance. Gable also informed them that Uncle Howdy was Bo Dallas.

Dupri said they all knew that already. She also informed him that they weren’t talking about Gable earlier. Xavier Woods entered the frame. Dupri said Tozawa and Otis offered to team with Woods against Final Testament next week. Gable was pissed and asked Otis if he was serious. Otis said Yes. Woods looked forward to teaming with them.

********

Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark (w/Sonya Deville) defeated Kayden Carter & Katana Chance (w/Lyra Valkyria) (9:53)

A minute into the match, they went to a split screen to show a movie commercial. They went to a regular break moments later. The babyfaces shined for a bit after the break but after some interference by Deville, Baszler and Stark hit their double-team elevated knee strike on Katana for the pinfall win.

*******

Bálor and McDonagh admitted to Ripley that Morgan helped them win the tag titles. She didn’t care. She knew Morgan was playing games. She was just glad that Judgment Day had the titles again and it was her turn to get her title back.

Dom approached again and told Ripley he got a match against Jey Uso to teach him a lesson for talking about her. She asked if he was stupid for getting a match against Jey. Dom offered to cancel the match but then she asked if he was a coward.

Dom said he wanted to show Jey and everyone else that Ripley was her Mami and she belonged to him. Ripley stormed off. Dom immediately regretted his comment and said he didn’t mean it that way. (Carlito provided some more comedic relief.)

********

[THIRD HOUR]

Drew McIntyre segment

Pearce called McIntyre to the ring and he entered. The crowd chanted for CM Punk. Pearce said they were on the verge of something special. Pearce and the fans all wanted to see the match between McIntyre and Punk. Pearce said Punk was home right now, at his request, trying to get cleared because he wanted it too.

Pearce asked McIntyre if he wanted the match and McIntyre said he wanted it more than anything in the world. Pearce said they needed to leave the pettiness and irrational behaviour behind. If McIntyre was ready to do that, Pearce was ready to do business. McIntyre agreed. He wanted the match.

McIntyre acted like a babyface and asked the fans if they wanted to see him against Punk at SummerSlam. The crowd cheered and chanted for Punk. McIntyre asked Pearce to make it official. Pearce wanted McIntyre to do something for him.

Pearce called in two referees. Pearce said McIntyre didn’t deserve what happened to him at Money in the Bank but neither did the referees. Pearce wanted McIntyre to apologize to them. McIntyre wasn’t sure why he would do that. Pearce said they put their bodies on the line and they were disrespected. McIntyre didn’t like this but Pearce re-iterated that he only needed to apologize. The crowd chanted, “Say ‘you’re sorry’.” McIntyre said, “No.”

McIntyre was pissed. He said he kept getting screwed around here and this has all happened under Pearce’s watch. Punk screwed him over again and sat cross-legged like an idiot on the table. Pearce didn’t send refs after Punk like he did to him. Pearce should be on his hands and knees apologizing to him. McIntyre would never accept an apology from Punk and wanted his head on a spike.

McIntyre kept ranting until Pearce cut him off to tell him he was suspended. McIntyre shoved both referees down and got in Pearce’s face until Seth Rollins ran out to his music.

Rollins attacked but McIntyre bailed before Rollins could hit a stomp. Pearce ordered security to get McIntyre out of the building. McIntyre shoved them aside and left on his own.

********

Wyatt Sicks VHS tape

They showed a clip from the Pat McAfee show of the Wyatt Sicks interrupting his show (while ESPN’s Jeff Passan was on as a guest) to give him a VHS tape.

They aired the tape. An unmasked Erick Rowan was interviewed by Uncle Howdy (who was offscreen).

Rowan said it’s been a rough few years. He used to be part of a family and they always had each other’s backs until one day, the whole world changed. He lost a brother. The person who believed in him most — just gone. It knocked him on his ass.

He wiped the dust off and kept moving but his other brother was suddenly gone too. He had no more family, no more will. He fell down a well and didn’t want to get out. “Who’s going to miss me? I’m just Rowan.”

Rowan knew he needed help and accepted that help (from Uncle Howdy). He could help those like himself.

(The Wyatt smoke and mirrors aside, Rowan was excellent here.)

********

Jey Uso defeated Dominik Mysterio (9:07)

Dom attacked Jey during his entrance and controlled through a commercial break. Jey unsurprisingly fought back after the break with right hands, a thrust kick, uppercut, enziguri and running hip attack.

Jey set up for a splash but Morgan entered to pull Dom from the ring. Jey dropkicked Dom which caused him to fall on top of Morgan again. Morgan mounted Dom and went for a kiss but Ripley ran out (to her music). Morgan bailed through the crowd and Ripley told Dom to get back in the ring.

Jey hit a spear and Uso Splash for the pinfall win.

Not only did Morgan pull Dom out of the ring in front of the ref, which should have been a DQ, but Dom was out of the ring for a full minute, which should have been a count-out.

********

Ripley approached Dom and told him: “Dom Dom, let’s get something straight. I don’t belong to anyone. I’m not yours. You’re mine.” She smiled and handed him a rose. He smiled.

*******

Chad Gable / Bo Dallas segment

Gable once again informed us that Uncle Howdy was Bo Dallas as if we didn’t know. Gable called him out.

Dallas entered in street clothes (and no music) but he was attacked from behind by the Creed Brothers. (The Creeds wore suits.)

Gable and the Creeds stood over Bo Dallas who began laughing. Julius and Brutus Creed held him down as Gable hammered away at him. Dallas wouldn’t stay down and they continued to attack. Gable hit a high-angle German suplex but Dallas sat against the bottom turnbuckle and continued laughing.

Gable grabbed Dallas and asked what was so funny. Dallas said, “There you are.”

The lights went down and there were some “You f**ked up” chants.

Four members of the Wyatt Sicks entered. They took their time getting to the ring so Gable and the Creeds were long gone by the time they did. The Wyatt Sicks stood alongside Dallas who put his arms out (Bray Wyatt’s pose) and laughed as the segment ended.

Intercontinental Championship match: Ilja Dragunov defeated Sami Zayn via disqualification — Zayn retrains the championship (11:24)

A dive by Zayn led to break 90 seconds into the match. They went back and forth after the break until Zayn hit a Blue Thunder Bomb for two. Zayn hit an exploder, dropping Dragunov on his head, but Dragunov responded by crunching his face with a boot.

Dragunov tried an H-Bomb but Zayn got his boot up. Dragunov kneed Zayn out of the ring and hit an H-Bomb off the apron. Dragunov hit a diving dropkick but Zayn got his knees up on a diving senton for a two count. Zayn knocked Dragunov off the apron with a Helluva Kick. Instead of taking a potential count-out win, Zayn went out to get him.

Breakker appeared on the stage, sprinted down to ringside, and speared Dragunov for the DQ. (Zayn and Dragnov were side-by-side so he was going for both men, but Zayn moved at the last moment.)

— Zayn tried fighting back but Breakker cut him down with a spear. Breakker posed as the show ended.

(I know it doesn’t always have to be, but boy was this not a good show for wrestling.)

WWE Raw live results: Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio team up

WWE is in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada tonight for the Money in the Bank fallout episode of Raw.

For the first time ever, Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio will team up as they take on Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega in a mixed tag team match. After accidentally costing him a win last week, Morgan will attempt to ramp up her seduction by helping Dominik defeat his father tonight.

Morgan retained her Women’s World Championship against Vega last Monday after botched interference by Dominik, who has supposedly been trying to make things right with Rhea Ripley by attempting to get Morgan to lose the title.

Judgment Day’s Finn Balor & JD McDonagh will team with Carlito tonight against Braun Strowman, The Miz & R-Truth. There’s also a six-woman tag match set with Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter & Katana Chance taking on Damage CTRL’s IYO SKY, Kairi Sane & Dakota Kai.

Plus, Jey Uso vs. Chad Gable will take place tonight. Join us for live coverage starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Pat McAfee returned to commentary as the show emanated from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

– CM Punk kicks off the show, addresses a suspended Drew McIntyre

Punk professed his well-wishes to the soon-to-retire John Cena before going on a tirade regarding McIntyre. While patting himself on the back, Punk pointed out McIntyre’s faults and why he had been getting in his way. Seth Rollins came out to confront Punk instead.

Rollins beckoned Punk back into the ring, accusing Punk of getting into his business when he cost Rollins the match at Money in the Bank. Punk apologized to Rollins, admitting his rage got in the way before saying he “isn’t that sorry.” Rollins poked at Punk, commenting that he gaslights everyone and thinks the world revolves around him. Rollins concluded by threatening to snap Punk’s arm once he is cleared.

– Dominik Mysterio pleaded with Adam Pearce to call him off of the Liv Morgan tag match, Morgan appealed to Mysterio

Jey Uso defeated Chad Gable

With his torso taped up, Gable immediately administered his skills to Uso with suplexes and holds. Throughout picture-in-picture, Gable remained largely in control, with spirited defenses from Uso sprinkled in between.

Uso briefly fought out of Gable’s fingers only for Gable to ensnare him via an Ankle Lock. The Wyatt Six sound effects sounded as the arena darkened. Uso speared Gable for the win and gave a goodbye Yeet to the crowd.

The match was fine. Gable showed his range and power, and looked strong in defeat as anyone traumatized by the Wyatt Six would be understandably distracted. Uso’s star power was on full display and had to take advantage of the situation.

– Post-Match

Chad Gable woke up in the mist when Sister Abigail (Nikki Cross) scared him away and delivered yet another VHS tape to Michael Cole and Pat McAfee at commentary. The segment ended with an Abigail jumpscare.

– Sheamus backstage interview

The Celtic Warrior discussed his aspirations and competition when Bronson Reed came into frame, telling Sheamus he’s waiting if he defeated Sheamus’s old friend Pete Dunne. Commentary would later state that Dunne’s tag team partner Tyler Bate was out of action due to injury.

Bronson Reed defeated Pete Dunne

Reed immediately flattened Dunne, but he rebounded quickly, capped off with a floating moonsault to the floor outside. After a commercial break, Dunne fought out of another control segment by Reed. After some finger joint manipulation, the large Reed powerbombed Dunne onto the mat, following a brief struggle on the top turnbuckle with Dunne targeting the fingers again. Reed won with a finished Tsunami Splash, and was ready to use another one before Sheamus came to Dunne’s aid.

Sheamus tried to embrace Dunne, but he refused, still bitter about the dissolution of The Brawling Brutes.

This was a fine outing by Reed, and Dunne’s finger snapping spots put him at an advantage. The match suffered from a commercial break that took up most of its time, but otherwise a decent TV match. I’m interested in the sewn seeds between Dunne and Sheamus.

– Seth Rollins and Damian Priest backstage segment

Rollins approached Judgement Day, seeking one-on-one counsel with Priest, and acknowledged that the World Heavyweight Champion stuck to his word. Priest retorted, stating that he’d be willing to throw out the gentlemen’s agreement from before Money in the Bank since Rollins was unfairly costed. He then answered the phone to an unknown caller.

– Sami Zayn in-ring promo

Proudly touting his successful title victory at Money in the Bank, Zayn professed that he was no longer an underdog and deserved respect. Bron Breakker, fresh off his loss to Zayn, admits his defeat and that he would accept not receiving a rematch. Then he speared Zayn until officials came out, and then he speared him again. Ilja Dragunov appeared, quickly rushing to Zayn’s side.

– Ilja Dragunov demanded Adam Pearce give him a match against Bron Breakker

Judgement Day (Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, & Carlito) defeated Awesome Truth & Brawn Strowman

Former tag champs R-Truth and Miz were attacked during their prolonged entrance. JD McDonagh was promptly chased out by Braun Strowman, charging like a bull seeing red. During picture-in-picture, Carlito gloated as McDonagh and Balor assaulted the legal Miz. Strowman came in for the hot tag, dismantling McDonagh without mercy. Attempting a chokeslam on Balor, Strowman was interrupted by Carlito & McDonagh but he laid them flat. Strowman and R-Truth proceeded to run a train all across Judgement Day.

McDonagh evened the odds by enticing Strowman, who proceeded to chase him out of the ring. Balor took advantage of this with a Coup de Grâce for the win as Strowman was too late in returning to the ring.

Not that I was a big fan to begin with, but I hope the Awesome Truth push slows down if not outright stopped with all the tag teams Raw can feature.

– Adam Pearce asked CM Punk backstage to stay away from July 15’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Punk obliged in the hopes of resting and getting cleared

– Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio are caught in an awkward predicament by Judgement Day

Morgan sought to alleviate Mysterio’s tension and massage him into a position that bordered on non-PG territory. Judgement Day laughed and yelled at Mysterio, who repeated he’d take care of it. Damian Priest said he’d let Mysterio learn the consequences of his actions on his own.

– Bo Dallas VHS promo

This VHS recording detailed the motivations and pain of each member of The Wyatt Six (Erik Rowan, Nikki Cross, Joe Gacey, and Dexter Lumis). Uncle Howdy and Dallas agree that the team are “sick”.

– Adam Pearce backstage segment

Pearce was approached by an angry Chad Gable, pleading that as General Manager, Pearce needed to do something about The Wyatt Six. Pearce opened the door to his office to find Bo Dallas sitting in a chair. He then closed the door.

Damage CTRL claimed the team needed to go through a change

Ilja Dragunov defeated Bron Breakker via DQ

Breakker began this match in control of a spiteful Dragunov who matched his intensity. After a commercial break, Dragunov was in dire straits. The pair traded blows, with Dragunov’s resilience and Breakker’s tenacity on full display. Powerbombing Breakker from the top rope and following it with a senton, Dragunov nearly had the match won. He got some nice air from that senton.

Breakker tried a Gorilla Press + Knees-to-midsection that didn’t pay off, but neither did Dragunov’s top-rope maneuvers. A sprinting Breakker sought to spear Dragunov but was met with a knee instead. The match ended after Breakker threw a chair at Dragunov, disqualifying him.

Sami Zayn entered the fray to prevent a post-match beatdown but Breakker decimated both men.

Each time I see Dragunov and Breakker go at it, they improve upon the match before. The intensity from both men is palpable each time they step into the ring. I see this post-match leading to a triple-threat match for the Intercontinental Championship down the line.

– Damian Priest vignette

A confident Priest celebrated his successes and challenged Gunther to show up and take advantage of his King of the Ring win opportunity for the World Heavyweight Championship.

– The Final Testament backstage vignette

Karrion Kross reiterates his intentions to draw Xavier Woods out of New Day, while addressing John Cena’s impending retirement.

Damage CTRL (Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, & Dakota Kai) defeated Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter, & Katana Chance

Frenzy ensued after the bell with each team picking a partner to lock up with. Sane kept Carter at pace, and tagged in Kai. Valkyria, Carter, & Chance solidified their offense with a synchronized kick through the ropes. Damage CTRL regained momentum as they delivered a united front onto Chance. After a Sliding Elbow, the legal Sane sought pinfall in repetition to no avail.

Sky served as the hot tag, striking with agility and precision to Chance until Valkyria leveled her with her dynamic powerhouse style. All six women engaged in a double suplex that flattened Damage CTRL with a resounding thud. Carter & Chance nearly ended the match with their Keg Stand finisher. Sky launched Sane through the air onto Valkyria and Chance while Kai and Sane dragged Carter to the middle of the ring. Punctuating the match with her moonsault, Sky ended the match.

Post-match, Zoey Stark, Shayna Baszler, & Sonya Deville laid out Damage CTRL, closing the scene and standing tall.

In a perfect world, Carter and Chance would be thriving in tag team action without being set pieces for someone else. They worked well in tandem with Valkyria. Sane in particular shone more than she has for a while since her WWE return.

– Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega backstage interview, promised to stop Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan

Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark, & Sonya Deville explain why Deville joined them, Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre taunt them

– Gunther promo vignette

The Ring General walked down memory lane, detailing his past accomplishments and proclaiming the sport was too sacred for lesser wrestlers following their dream. Gunther acknowledged his upcoming match with Damian Priest at SummerSlam.

Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio defeated Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega

It was on-sight for Vega onto Morgan, so much so that she quickly had to tag in Dominik, and Rey for Vega. Rey quickly outpaced Dominik, and it certainly didn’t help that Rey included Vega. Morgan was again no match for Vega, but Dominik stood in Vega’s way and Rey took advantage with no hesitation. Morgan sacrificed herself for Dominik, pushing him to absorb Vega’s flying knees herself.

Running circles around his son, Rey lined up his 619 finisher, but Morgan tripped him up, leading to Dominik to gain control for the first time in the match. The uneasy chemistry between Dominik and Morgan built throughout the match. Contrasted to the hard-hitting style of Vega and Rey, Dominik and Morgan were underhanded and rotten in their approach.

In a callback to Eddy Guerrero vs Rey Misterio at Halloween Havoc 1997, Dominik tore at Rey’s mask and spammed his elbows across his father’s face. Finally gaining a moment of respite, Rey tagged in Vega who again was too fiery for Morgan, leaving little opening for the Women’s World Champion. Now, it was Morgan’s turn to gain control for the first time as she used Eddie Guerrero’s Three Amigos finisher to no success. Tagging in Rey, the masked veteran kept Dominik in his paces. Vega and Rey teamed up with each employing a 619 on Dominik, but Morgan quelled this and slammed Vega into the ring post. Throwing a chair into the ring to distract the ref, she gave a cheap shot to Rey and Dominik followed up with a Frog Splash for the win.

Post-match, Dominik hugged Morgan in excitement but quickly realized his mistake. Morgan responded in kind by jumping into Dominik’s arms as she dropped them to the mat and held him there for an uncomfortable amount of time. She would leave in a hurry though, as Rhea Ripley made her surprise return and she did not look too happy to see Dominik. In fact, she chastised him and stormed off in fury.

This mixed-tag team match actually had a fun pace to it despite the comedic soap opera angle. Rey’s a legend and Zelina’s a very fine worker. Couple that with Dominik’s heat magnet status and Liv’s star power, and this was an energetic bout with big spots. It dragged her and there, but there were important wheels turning that brought it to its conclusion and the awkwardness of Rhea finally catching Dominik in the act.

Overall the show was good. It could have had more than five matches, however, and preferably without The Awesome Truth. The Wyatt Six angle seems to be heading somewhere but they could possibly come up with alternative means for VHS tapes to reach the production truck each week, and I’m glad to see there may be an actual follow-up with Sheamus and the rest of his Brawling Brutes. I’m looking forward to Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker, and Sami Zayn to inevitably clash. Rhea Ripley’s return solidified how sorely missed she was.

Show Recap —

The opening signature video “glitched.”

There was a Clash at the Castle video recap. They didn’t try to downplay the booing of CM Punk.

A stern Drew McIntyre was shown walking through the arena.

Opening segment

Seth Rollins entered to start the show. He wore an all-white outfit including a white hat and shoes. (He still has long hair, in case you were wondering.) He received a big ovation and “Welcome back” chants. He welcomed us back to Monday Night Rollins and said he missed the fans too.

Rollins said he was back for one reason. He wanted to be the very best of all time but couldn’t do that without getting back the championship that he made. He looked up at the Money in the Bank contracts (suspended above the ring). He was very familiar with MITB and figured it was the fastest way back to a title opportunity.

Damian Priest interrupted. He was booed. He said it was good to have Rollins back. He wanted to tell Rollins straight-up that he wanted to cash MITB in on him. He wanted to do it out of respect because he wanted to be the world champion by beating Rollins. Priest was doing just fine as champion, though, and this was no longer Monday Night Rollins.

Rollins respected Priest’s sentiment. Rollins said they had similar paths. They both made their names in groups and both cashed in at WrestleMania. The difference between them was that Rollins actually grew a set. Rollins realized he had to stand on his own two feet. Rollins asked Priest what kind of champion he wanted to be. Does he want to be the greatest or be a footnote in Judgment Day?

Priest recalled Rollins beating him when he first became world champion. Rollins was better than him at the time but times have changed. Priest wanted to make it clear that Rollins was not better than him now. Priest told him not to worry about the ladder match and offered him a title match at MITB.

Rollins thought this might be a trap and his boys were about to jump him. Priest said it wasn’t a trap and Judgment Day didn’t know anything. Priest fired up and asked him if he wanted a shot. Rollins accepted. Rollins said this would always be Monday Night Rollins as long as he was around.

********

Chad Gable and Alpha Academy met with Adam Pearce earlier today. Gable was pissed at Alpha Academy and said it was their fault he wasn’t the Intercontinental Champion. He wanted another shot at Sami Zayn. Pearce understood his frustration but suggested he go to the back of the line. Gable asked for a match against anybody to prove himself and Pearce accepted.

Braun Strowman defeated Chad Gable (w/Alpha Academy) (6:34)

Michael Cole sarcastically wished Gable luck against Strowman as if he had no chance. The same Chad Gable who was almost the IC champion. Cole also snickered at how small Gable looked compared to Strowman.

I guess Cole was right because this was a squash.

Strowman was in full control before and after an early break. He tried running over Gable but he used Akira Tozawa as a shield. Strowman picked up Tozawa and tossed him at Gable (which was not a DQ). Strowman hit a powerslam moments later for the pinfall win.

— Gable called Alpha Academy into the ring after the match. He put his hands on Tozawa so Maxxine Dupri (using a crutch) stood between them. Gable grabbed her crutch and chucked it out of the ring. As Otis helped Dupri out of the ring, Gable smacked Tozawa down to the mat.

Otis heard what happened and turned around. Otis shoved Gable across the ring and the crowd popped. Otis did not kill Gable but instead assisted Tozawa and Dupri to the back. The crowd chanted for Otis and chanted “You suck” at Gable.

(This felt kind of underwhelming after all these weeks of build. The crowd didn’t pop as loud as they might have a week or two ago. It’s also odd this was the thing that finally set Otis off. It is possible Otis hasn’t completely turned on Gable yet and they’re still building to a bigger moment.)

********

They had Pat McAfee analyze some replays from last week to reveal that Finn Bálor was the one who took Liv Morgan’s hotel room key. McAfee also called Judgment Day “assholes” which was not censored.

Judgment Day met in the back. Bálor told Priest he had his back with Rollins if he needed it. Priest brushed that aside and asked about the room key. Bálor was offended and said he took the key to protect Dominik. The key was in the trash.

Priest didn’t mean anything by it but did think Bálor has been distracted lately. He wanted to know what Bálor was planning if he won MITB. Bálor told him he planned on cashing in on the champ… Cody Rhodes. They laughed.

Dom was frantically looking for his purple cow vest but couldn’t find it. Carlito laughed and said he must’ve left it in Morgan’s hotel room. The rest of Judgment Day didn’t like that joke.

********

Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifier: IYO SKY defeated Kiana James and Zelina Vega (8:33)

They went to break 80 seconds into the match after some dives.

[SECOND HOUR]

Sky made her way to the top but Vega used a 619 to knock her off the middle rope. Vega hit a Code Red but James broke up the cover.

Liv Morgan sauntered out wearing Dom’s purple cow vest and this distracted Vega for some reason. James knocked Vega off the apron and Sky hit James with a moonsault for the pinfall win. Sky qualifies for MITB.

This wasn’t much of a match and, like the opener, about half of it took place during a break. (Three people in the crowd did give it a “This is awesome” chant, though.)

********

There was a video package of Bron Breakker taking out Ricochet.

Alicia Taylor was the ring announcer this week and they said Samantha Irvin would be back next week.

********

They plugged Sami Zayn’s comedy show at Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on July 4th. (As a Toronto local, I can’t say I ever expected to see them plug Danforth on Monday Night Raw.)

Sami Zayn segment

Zayn entered to a good reaction. He was proud to still be the IC champion. He admitted it wasn’t easy beating Gable. All their personal stuff started because Zayn simply beat him in a wrestling match. It was appropriate that it ended with him beating Gable in a wrestling match.

Zayn was moving on from Gable but he admitted it might be hard moving on from Alpha Academy. He felt bad for them because he knew what it was like. Zayn left Bloodline when he knew he was ready and Jey Uso did the same. After what happened earlier tonight, it was evident to Zayn that the Academy would leave Gable.

With that said, it was time for Zayn to look forward and do his job which was to defend his title.

Bron Breakker interrupted. Breakker didn’t have to say much because Zayn knew why he was there. He has left plenty of bodies behind him and Zayn was next. Breakker was taking the IC title. Zayn held the title up and the crowd chanted his name.

Sheamus interrupted. Sheamus told Zayn he’s been chasing the IC title for five years and he would do anything to get his hands on it.

Breakker was offended that Sheamus acted like he wasn’t there and asked, “Are you outta your mind?” (Which was funny.) Breakker didn’t care about Sheamus’ sob story and threatened to kick his ass. Sheamus called Breakker the new hot kid but he had no skin in the game as far as the IC title was concerned. Sheamus told him to go to the back of the line or else.

Zayn was amused and planned on getting Pearce to put Sheamus and Breakker in a match tonight.

********

There was a Dragon Lee video promo.

Jackie Redmond interviewed Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn. Fyre said it was a dream come true to win the titles in front of their friends and family. Dawn said the time for celebration was over and they were ready to take on anyone.

Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark interrupted. Baszler noted they beat Fyre and Dawn last week — and Baszler made Jade Cargill tap out on Saturday even if the referee missed it. Zoey Stark said Fyre and Dawn were just keeping the belts warm for them. They were focused on MITB for now but would be coming for the tag belts soon. Dawn and Fyre were ready anytime.

********

Carlito (w/Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh) defeated Dragon Lee (w/Rey Mysterio & Joaquin Wilde) (8:00)

This was yet another uneventful match that was cut in half by a commercial break.

Morgan walked out again in Dom’s vest. Dom wanted it back and asked where she got it. Vega ran in and attacked Morgan from behind. Dom took a cheap shot at Rey as Wilde broke up the fight between Morgan and Vega. Dom shoved Wilde into the ring steps so Rey hammered away on Dom.

The ref was distracted so McDonagh tripped Dragon Lee off the ropes and Carlito followed with a backstabber for the pinfall win.

********

They replayed Priest almost getting injured at Clash and Punk costing McIntyre. They also showed the video of Punk getting a referee shirt from Jessika Carr.

Drew McIntyre is up next. (The screen glitched as he was shown walking through the back.)

********

Gable berated Otis and Dupri in the back. Otis put his Alpha Academy gear away and told Gable, “We’re done.” Otis, Dupri and Tozawa walked off.

Gable screamed as they left and said they weren’t done until he said so. Gable then announced they were expelled. Gable said he would win MITB and do what Otis couldn’t and that was become world champion.

(The crowd did pop pretty big for Otis saying they were done.)

********

Drew McIntyre segment

McIntyre entered as they showed footage of him throwing a Bret Hart-level tantrum after Clash went off the air. The crowd chanted for Punk. McIntyre said Punk’s name and it was mostly cheered. McIntyre said Punk’s name again but couldn’t muster up anything else.

McIntyre was distraught. He said: “I can’t do this anymore. Screw this company. I quit.”

Pearce approached McIntyre and pleaded with him as he stormed off. They abruptly cut to break.

********

Triple H spoke to McIntyre briefly during the break but McIntyre walked off. Pearce followed him but McIntyre kept walking.

(It was hard to hear but I think McIntyre said this was Hunter’s fault too.)

********

Kayden Carter & Katana Chance defeated Dakota Kai & Kairi Sane (2:26)

Another nothing match. At least this was over quickly.

Sane hit Carter with the Insane Elbow but Katana broke up the cover. They knocked Katana out of the ring and Lyra Valkyria came out for support as Damage CTRL set up Carter for a double-team move.

Kai stopped what she was doing for some reason and turned her attention completely to Lyra. Carter used the opportunity to give Sane a DDT. She kicked Kai and Carter/Chance hit Afterparty for the pinfall win. Lyra celebrated with them.

[THIRD HOUR]

Sky was pissed at her teammates. She told them: “Damage CTRL has to change or I will change this myself.”

********

Zayn entered to watch this match from ringside.

When discussing what Bron did to Ricochet, Cole said, “Who knows if we’ll ever see him again.”

Sheamus defeated Bron Breakker via disqualification (12:13)

Just as they started giving us a good match it ended in a DQ.

Bron hit a running clothesline but Sheamus responded with a backbreaker and rolling senton. Sheamus knocked Bron out of the ring and hit a clothesline off the apron. Bron knocked Sheamus off the apron moments later. With Sheamus leaning against the announce table, Bron hit a leaping clothesline off the apron, sending both men over the table.

Sheamus fought out of a rest hold after a break but Bron dropped him with a gut buster for two. Sheamus fought back with strikes, a clothesline, and a swinging side slam for two.

With Smeaus sitting on the top, Bron leaped on the ropes and presumably wanted to do a Frankensteiner but he slipped and they both just fell over.

Sheamus responded with White Noise for two. Bron hit a clothesline but Sheamus caught him with a lifting knee strike for two. Sheamus did ten beats of the Bodhrán.

Sheamus set up for a Brogue Kick but Ludwig Kaiser tripped him and slammed his knee against the post for the DQ.

— Sheamus went after Kaiser until Bron nailed Sheamus with a spear. Officials followed Bron to the aisle as he crossed paths with Zayn.

Kaiser placed Sheamus’ leg on the ring steps. He was going to run around the ring and hit a dropkick into the steps but Bron (perhaps realizing Kaiser technically cost him the match) ran around the other side of the ring and crushed him with a spear. That was cool.

Officials surrounded Bron who shoved down Zayn. Officials got between them before they could fight.

(The DQ was disappointing but the post-match was great. Although it sorta seemed like Zayn was just going to stand there and watch as Kaiser tried to break Sheamus’ leg.)

*******

Dom walked around the back asking everyone if they’d seen his real gorilla vest purple cow vest. Morgan was nearby wearing the vest. Dom wanted it back. She said he could have it if he took it off of her himself.

She lowered the zipper a bit and waited for him to do the rest. Dom began lowering the zipper but stopped when Priest caught them. Dom said he was just getting his vest. Priest told him to take it and go back to the clubhouse. Dom took the vest and left.

Morgan was quite proud of herself. Priest told her to leave the poor guy alone because he wanted nothing to do with her. Morgan laughed and said Dom wanted everything to do with her. She left. Priest called her “loca.”

********

Karrion Kross (with Scarlett) cut a backstage promo on New Day. He challenged either man to a singles match with no one at ringside. He hoped it was Kofi Kingston and figured Kingston would want Xavier Woods to stay in the back anyway.

Woods and Kingston cut a promo in response. Kingston said Kross hasn’t done anything since winning the NXT title while New Day were the greatest tag team of all time. Woods mentioned Kross’ challenge but Kingston stepped in front of him and accepted the challenge.

Woods looked slightly perturbed only for a moment but smiled and shook Kingston’s hand.

********

They plugged Punk’s appearance on Friday’s Smackdown in Chicago.

Next week on Raw in Indianapolis:

  • Triple threat MITB qualifier: Braun Strowman vs. Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed
  • Triple threat MITB qualifier: Lyra Valkyria vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane

(Yes, Gable is in a qualifier with Strowman after getting squashed by him earlier.)

********

Jey Uso cut a promo in the back alongside some fans. He planned on winning tonight and winning the Yeet-case (briefcase).

Cole said McIntyre has deactivated his social media accounts.

********

Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifier: Jey Uso defeated Finn Bálor and Rey Mysterio (15:42)

Bálor immediately left the ring. Jey and Mysterio shook hands and had a brief exchange. Rey wiped out Bálor with a dive and they went to break 90 seconds into the match.

Rey hit Bálor with a seated senton and springboard crossbody for two. Rey used a crucifix pin on Jey for two. Bálor tried a schoolboy on Rey for two. Rey went for 619 but Bálor knocked him down with a clothesline. Jey hit Bálor with an enziguri but Bálor connected with a Pelé Kick. They went to break again. It’s only been three minutes since the last break.

Rey brought Bálor off the top with a hurricanrana. Jey speared Mysterio for two. Bálor shoved Jey off the top and Rey hit Bálor with a 619 to the gut. Rey followed with a sliding splash to the outside and a 619. Mysterio also gave Jey a 619. Rey then gave both men a 619 simultaneously.

Rey went to the top but Dom ran out to stop him. Rey knocked him down but McDonagh dropped Rey. McDonagh and Carlito attacked Rey but Strowman ran out (to his music) to chase Judgment Day away.

Jey superkicked Bálor for two. Bálor hit a slingblade for two. Rey got back in but Bálor caught him and drove him into the turnbuckle. Bálor hit Rey with Coup de Grace but Jey followed immediately with a splash on Bálor for the pinfall win. Jey qualifies for MITB.

Jey celebrated with the crowd as they did his pose.

Closing angle

As Jey celebrated, the lights went out as they once did for Bray Wyatt/The Fiend.

A zombie creature crawled out of a door toward a lantern. She (presumably Nikki Cross) pointed toward the back and the camera followed her command. The back area was dark and filled with smoke. A few guys were knocked out and a large man (Erik Rowan) stood over them in a mask. The camera continued to Gorilla position which was torn apart. Lights flickered and another masked man sat nearby (Dexter Lumis). Another masked person (perhaps Joe Gacy)  was near a fallen Chad Gable. (They made it look like he was hot in the head.)

A final masked man, Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas) led his crew to the stage.

The firefly lights filled the arena as the new faction posed on the stage with the lantern. The leader said “We’re here,” and blew out the lantern.

(This is exactly what you’d expect. High-level WWE production, goofy over-the-top violent imagery, and the crowd eating it all up.)

WWE Raw live results: Liv Morgan vs. Becky Lynch steel cage title match

Date: May 27, 2024
Location: Enmarket Arena in Savannah, GA

**********

Show Recap —

There was a video recap of King and Queen of the Ring. The camera shot used for Gunther’s win over Randy Orton made sure not to show the botched pinfall. However, the announcers did acknowledge that Orton’s shoulder was up and that Triple H said the decision was final.

Liv Morgan and Becky Lynch were shown arriving at the arena.

Opening segment

Ludwig Kaiser introduced the new King of the Ring, Gunther. Gunther entered in a blue suit and he held the crown in his hands. The crowd chanted, “You suck,” and “We want Randy.”

Gunther said he beat Orton and was the rightful KOTR. He earned the opportunity to wrestle for the World Championship at SummerSlam.

Gunther admired that Damian Priest stepped up in the absence of Rhea Ripley. Gunther himself stepped up to raise the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship by becoming the greatest champion of all time. He also raised the prestige of KOTR. The world title also lacked prestige because the champion won it by taking a shortcut (MITB).

Damian Priest interrupted, flanked by Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh. Priest called Gunther’s crown “adorable.” Priest said Gunther proved nothing because we all saw that he did not beat Orton.

Priest admitted he cashed in to win the title but he was able to do that because he earned the briefcase by winning a ladder match. That’s how that works and has worked for years. Priest offered to teach Gunther a lesson about the business if he was confused.

Gunther said he’s been waiting for someone to teach him anything in the ring since he debuted. Gunther said Priest could lecture him before SummerSlam while he was the King, or after SummerSlam as the champion. Priest wasn’t sure what Gunther could teach him that he didn’t already know.

Drew McIntyre interrupted. The crowd chanted for CM Punk. McIntyre told Gunther that he would be the champion in less than three weeks. Gunther smiled and left the ring.

Priest told McIntyre that he wasn’t looking past him. McIntyre warned him that he was spreading himself too thin. Judgment Day has been screwing up a lot and they’ve gone to hell since Ripley left.

McIntyre said he would become a four-time champion. Priest was walking into a war zone in Scotland. The fans would break him mentally and McIntyre would take his title.

Priest laughed at his game plan. He wasn’t worried that the fans would boo him. He made a career of proving people wrong. He asked McIntyre if his wife would be there and asked her name. McIntyre was pissed and Priest laughed because he so easily got under his skin. Priest wondered if McIntyre would do something about it.

Braun Strowman interrupted. Strowman decided to do us a favour and enter for his match and finally end this segment. (We were past the 20-minute mark when Strowman entered.) McIntyre left.

********

Braun Strowman defeated JD McDonagh (w/Finn Bálor) (9:31+)

Strowman dominated for the first few minutes until McDonagh clipped his knee and he fell into the ringpost. McDonagh chop-blocked him ahead of a break and continued to target the knee after the break. Strowman responded with a back body drop and running shoulder tackle outside the ring.

Bálor tried to attack Strowman right in front of the referee but Strowman blocked it and yanked Bálor into the ring. As the referee tried getting rid of Bálor, Carlito ran down to interfere but Strowman got rid of him too.

McDonagh headbutted Strowman but Strowman came right back with a powerslam for the pinfall win.

— Carlito and Bálor attacked Strowman after the match but he easily disposed of them. McDonagh hit Strowman in the back with a chair but it had no effect. The crowd chanted, “You f**ked up.” McDonagh, Bálor and Carlito bailed before Strowman could kill them.

********

Liv Morgan told Cathy Kelley she had no remorse over how she beat Becky Lynch to win the title and she did not know Dominik would be there. Lynch wanted to remind people that she had never beaten her one-on-one and that was still true thanks to Dom. Morgan said she would beat Lynch straight-up in her first-ever steel cage match. Her revenge tour was just getting started.

********

Priest approached Bálor and Carlito. He told Bálor that Strowman should have been handled tonight. He told them to go find McDonagh so they could regroup. (Carlito and Bálor hesitated to leave because they figured Strowman was chasing him down.)

********

There was a video recap of Bron Breakker’s destruction last week.

Earlier today, medical staff cleared Ricochet. Adam Pearce wasn’t convinced but acknowledged that Ricochet was cleared. Ricochet wanted Bron in a match tonight. Pearce said Bron was at home suspended and Ricochet would have to be patient. Ricochet wasn’t happy.

Ilja Dragunov thanked Ricochet for pushing him out of the way last week. Dragunov offered a rematch once Ricochet was ready. Ricochet wanted it tonight. Dragunov said he fights people and breaks them, but he doesn’t fight broken people. Ricochet responded, “Ricochet ain’t nothing but money, I ain’t never been broke.” Ricochet told Pearce to make the match and he did.

********

As Dragunov entered, Cole asked, “Why did Bron Breakker attack Ricochet?” At that moment, a QR Code appeared on the screen with the words “Because We Believed.” Cole acknowledged the QR Code and quickly moved on.

Ricochet defeated Ilja Dragunov via disqualification (10:32)

Dragunov was all over Ricochet and kneed him out of the ring which led to break two minutes into the match.

[SECOND HOUR]

Ricochet came back with a knee strike and suicide dive. Dragunov caught a second dive attempt and drove him into the side of the ring but Ricochet stepped off the turnbuckle moments later and hit a moonsault.

They traded strikes in the ring until Dragunov dropped Ricochet with a clothesline and a Constantine Special. Dragunov followed with chops and a powerbomb. Dragunov came off the middle rope with an H-Bomb attempt but Ricochet caught him with a superkick. Ricochet followed with a Recoil for a nearfall.

Ricochet hit a shooting star press but was too hurt to make a cover. As Ricochet got up, Bron Breakker appeared and speared him to death. Dragunov chopped Bron but he cut down Dragunov with a spear too.

— Officials checked on the two men in the ring while Pearce admonished Breakker. Bron smiled and walked off without acknowledging him. Pearce followed Bron and continued screaming until Bron shot him a look.

The crowd really got up for Breakker who certainly comes across as something special.

After a break, Pearce and Breakker argued backstage as Kelley tried to provide us with an update. Bron left. Kelley wanted to interview Pearce but he was approached by Kiana James. Pearce told James they could speak in his office because he needed a drink.

********

Miz and R-Truth were shown at an ice cream truck earlier today. Truth worked inside the truck and handed Miz a Drumstick. Miz wondered why Truth wanted him to wear white. Truth wanted Miz to represent his flavour. Truth said Miz was vanilla while Truth was strawberry.

Miz was surprised Truth chose strawberry for himself and stopped short of guessing chocolate. New Day showed up and Xavier Woods (wearing a Savannah Bananas hoodie) asked Miz what flavour he was about to say. Miz insisted he was thinking strawberry.

New Day wanted a title shot and Truth was willing to give it to them but Miz wasn’t as willing. Truth hid inside the truck and Miz left.

Karrion Kross happened to be nearby and he approached New Day. Kross wasn’t there to challenge them to a match, he wanted to help Woods. He wondered when Woods would finally cut Kofi Kingston loose. He also wondered if Kingston was waiting until he retired to let Woods shine.

Kross invited Woods to watch AOP in action tonight. Woods said they would take on AOP next week. Kross was happy to do this the hard way.

********

Authors of Pain (w/Scarlett, Karrion Kross & Paul Ellering) defeated The Creed Brothers (w/Ivy Nile) (3:00)

Julius Creed got a chance to shine by handing out suplexes to his large opponents. However, Scarlett drove Ivy Nile into the ring steps which distracted the Creeds. This allowed AOP to hit Julius with a combo powerbomb/neckbreaker for the pinfall win. (Cole said the double team finisher was named “What a Rush” by Ellering.)

********

Rey Mysterio cut a backstage promo. He said Carlito was welcomed into LWO with open arms but his jealousy over Dragon Lee made him bitter and his attack of Cruz Del Toro was a huge mistake.

Carlito could run to Judgment Day if he wanted but their friendship was over. When they stepped in the ring, Carlito would find out what happens when you cross the LWO and when you cross Rey Mysterio.

********

Sheamus promo

Sheamus said Saturday’s show featured banger after banger. He was sad not to be part of it because that Ken Doll Ludwig Kaiser smashed his knee and took him out. Sheamus wasn’t bitter and understood that was part of the game but what made him salty was Kaiser talking trash about him while he waited to get cleared. Sheamus announced that he was back and he couldn’t wait to get his hands on Kaiser’s scrawny neck.

Kaiser interrupted on the screen and made comments about Sheamus being old. Kaiser rambled until Sheamus cut him off. Sheamus marched to the back to find Kaiser but Kaiser decked him from behind. They brawled into the arena until officials broke it up.

********

Lynch approached Lyra Valkyria in the locker room. Lyra was sore and had bruised knees.

Lynch told her, “Saturday didn’t go our way but it’s not about winning all the time, it’s about getting better every time. So we’ll win or learn and keep winning or learning… until it’s time to walk away.”

Lynch gave her a fist bump and told to to consider getting knee pads. Lyra chuckled.

********

Lyra Valkyria defeated Kairi Sane (w/Dakota Kai) (3:42)

Lyra was sore and taped up after getting hit with Nia Jax’s Annihilator on Saturday. Sane worked her over and hit a double foot stomp on the apron. As Lyra was upside down in the corner holding onto the bottom rope, Sane hit another foot stomp off the top for two.

Sane tried an Insane Elbow but Lyra got her knees up and applied a crucifix cover for the pinfall win. (They cut to the back seconds later.)

********

Bálor and Carlito approached Priest. Priest wondered where McDonagh was and why Carlito was there. Carlito said Priest told them to meet him there but Priest said he wanted Judgment Day to meet him. Priest told him to get ready for his match. Carlito asked if they would be out there with him but Priest didn’t answer.

McDonagh entered as Carlito left. Priest wondered if he had to deal with Strowman and noted McDonagh was busy speaking with Morgan earlier. McDonagh admitted he spoke with Morgan but only to tell her she wouldn’t be champion long.

Dom entered and Priest wanted to speak with him alone. Dom admitted he messed up. He spoke to Ripley and told her that he would fix it. Priest was glad he wasn’t in Dom’s shoes and said he better fix it.

********

Sane and Kai approached Iyo Sky in the back but Sky freaked out and began chucking furniture around the room. She stormed off.

********

Members of the Savannah Bananas baseball team were shown in the front row.

Rey Mysterio (w/Dragon Lee & Zelina Vega) defeated Carlito (10:23)

Cole said this was the first time in 20 years that these two have had a singles match, which isn’t true. Also, Samantha Irvin announced that Mysterio was accompanied to the ring by Zelina Vega, Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro but Wilde and Del Toro (who is injured) weren’t there. Dragon Lee was.

Carlito hit a superplex after a break. Rey came back with a Lionsault for two. Carlito followed with a fireman’s carry into a cutter for two.

Bálor entered through the crowd and attacked Dragon Lee from behind. Mysterio wiped out Bálor with a seated senton off the apron. Carlito was unable to utilize this distraction and Mysterio hit him with a 619 and springboard splash for the pinfall win.

[THIRD HOUR]

— Mysterio attacked Bálor after the match and chucked him onto the announce table. Dragon Lee went to the top but Priest attacked Mysterio from behind while Carlito spit apple in Dragon Lee’s face. Priest nailed Dragon Lee with a Razor’s Edge.

Mysterio kicked Priest into the ropes and set up for 619 but Bálor got in his way and Priest booted him. Priest laid out Mysterio with a South of Heaven chokeslam. The crowd booed.

Bálor and Carlito were happy momentarily until Priest shot them a look (annoyed he had to deal with this himself).

********

Chad Gable was annoyed with Akira Tozawa because he didn’t make the trip to Saturday’s show. Gable could have used Tozawa’s help and said he must’ve had a really good reason for not going. Tozawa apologized but Gable said he wasn’t mad, just disappointed.

Strowman marched by looking for McDonagh.

Otis and Maxxine Dupri showed up. Gable referred to Dupri as “Goldilocks and her three brain cells.” Gable didn’t want her at ringside tonight because it wasn’t a fashion show.

Gable said he would be the IC champion if not for Otis. Gable was giving Otis a second chance out of the kindness of his heart to redeem himself against Bronson Reed. Gable wanted to hear Otis say the words and, as usual, he said, “No matter what.”

********

Bronson Reed defeated Otis (w/Chad Gable) (3:36)

Otis fought back and set up for Caterpillar but Gable demanded he stop. Otis was about to do the move anyway so Gable got in his face. All this time allowed Reed to recover and hit Otis with a thrust kick, senton and Tsunami for the pinfall win. (Gable didn’t bother trying to help.)

— Gable called Otis back into the ring. He also called out Dupri because he wanted them to have a meeting right now. Dupri and Tozawa entered as they went to break.

********

Alpha Academy meeting

Gable wondered what it would take to get through to Otis. Gable said Otis lacked discipline so he would show him discipline in front of everyone. Gable removed his belt and told Otis to grab the rope. Otis slowly made his way to the ropes with his back turned to Gable. Gable told Dupri and Tozawa to watch.

Gable was about to whip Otis but Dupri stopped him. Gable mocked her and told her to leave.

Sami Zayn interrupted. He checked on Dupri on his way out.

Zayn told Gable he wasn’t tough. He was a weak little man. He manipulated his way into several opportunities for the IC title but he came up short every time. He blamed everyone but himself for losing. Gable couldn’t get the job done.

Gable said it was time for Otis’ discipline and was about to whip him but Zayn yanked the belt away. Otis stood between Zayn and Gable. Zayn wondered how much more crap Otis was going to take. Zayn told Otis to listen to the fans.

As Zayn gave Otis words of encouragement, Gable decked Zayn. Zayn fought back but Otis pulled him off of Gable. Zayn tried talking sense into Otis but Gable suplexed Zayn.

The crowd chanted, “Let’s go Otis” as Gable stood over Zayn but Otis didn’t do anything. Gable and Tozawa left the ring. Otis waited back with Zayn for a moment until Gable called him away.

(Gable is great in this role but they’re in danger of stretching this out too long. Otis, Dupri and Tozawa are all grown adults and there doesn’t appear to be any specific reason why they’re so loyal to Gable.)

There was a video of Morgan’s win over Lynch. They were shown warming up ahead of the main event.

********

Kelley interviewed Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. Baszler didn’t care that Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair were the champs, they had the same limbs as everyone else. Stark thought they should invite them to Raw.

Sonya Deville showed up and wondered why they were talking like champions already. Deville said they could become champions with her help. They blew her off. Baszler told her to walk away before she put her on the shelf again. Deville respected her accomplishments but the locker room didn’t.

Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre showed up to issue a warning. Deville reiterated to Baszler and Stark that the locker room didn’t respect them.

Cage Match: Liv Morgan defeated Becky Lynch to retain the Women’s World Championship (13:12+)

The match started during a break and Morgan was in control. Morgan drove Lynch into the cage and used her boot to rub Lynch’s face against it. Morgan used three consecutive dropkicks into the cage and multiple shoulder tackles.

Lynch dodged another attack and Morgan went head-first into the cage. Lynch rammed Morgan’s head repeatedly against the cage. Lynch followed with a missile dropkick for two. Lynch used basement dropkicks to drive Morgan into the cage but Morgan fought her off and bounced her against the cage again.

After another break, Morgan tried scaling the cage but Lynch brought her down with a superplex off the middle rope. Morgan drove her into the cage again and followed with a Codebreaker for two.

They briefly traded right hands on top of the cage moments before Morgan brought down Lynch and hit a powerbomb. Lynch applied a Disarmer over the top rope but Morgan once again shoved her into the cage. Morgan began climbing the ropes but Lynch brought her down with a Russian leg sweep.

Dom jogged to ringside and simply opened the cage door (as the ref yelled at him). Bálor and McDonagh ran down and told him to stop getting involved. They gave up on Dom and were about to leave when Strowman entered to his music.

Strowman ran around ringside and knocked Dom into the door which flew into Lynch’s face, knocking her down too.

With Lynch down, Morgan crawled out of the cage to win the match. This was a dumb finish.

— Morgan walked up the ramp with her belt and went face-to-face with Dominik.

Morgan grabbed Dom and kissed him. Morgan smiled. Dom was nonplussed.

(I don’t know what they did or did not do to the crowd during this match or postmatch. They were quiet for the match itself and barely reacted to Liv kissing Dom. It didn’t help that her music was still playing but you still couldn’t hear any sort of reaction to what should have been a big angle.)

Show Recap —

Iyo Sky was shown arriving in a BMW and was greeted by her Damage CTRL teammates. Lyra Valkyria, Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Jey Uso were shown arriving at the arena.

Sami Zayn entered to a good reaction. Zayn explained why he chose to defend his Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat match. He had different issues with Bronson Reed and Chad Gable and decided to deal with them at the same time.

Zayn’s issues with Gable were personal and Gable had an ass-kicking coming his way. His issues with Reed were all about the title. This match would be a battle of mind, body and soul. Gable represented the mind because he was manipulative and crafty. Reed’s strength and brute force represented the body.

Zayn represented the soul. His heart and passion were why he was the champion. That’s why he defeated the longest-reigning IC champion in history and why he would walk out as champ on Saturday.

Gable entered, flanked by Alpha Academy. He didn’t appreciate being called manipulative. He wasn’t manipulative when he helped coach Zayn to a win at WrestleMania. Gable was too nice to Zayn and too nice to the three clowns in Alpha Academy. He called Maxxine Dupri a failure for losing in QOTR and Akira Tozawa a failure for doing zero damage to Reed last week.

Gable moved on to Otis and the crowd chanted Otis’ name. Gable called him the biggest disappointment on the planet. Zayn asked Alpha Academy how much longer they were going to deal with Gable’s crap. Gable said Zayn couldn’t drive a wedge between them because they already rededicated themselves to him.

Gable was tired of hearing about Zayn’s heart and soul. Gable said he didn’t have to pin Zayn to win the title but he planned on doing so. Gable would take his title — and his soul. Zayn said the title match was in five days so he called Gable into the ring for their scheduled match.

Chad Gable (w/Alpha Academy) defeated Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn in a non-title match (16:07)

They went to break 90 seconds into the match after Zayn clotheslined Gable out of the ring. Tozawa and Otis helped him up but he shoved them aside.

After the break, Gable wanted Dupri and Tozawa to interfere but they both stopped short of doing so. Gable was pissed so he ejected them from ringside as if he were the referee. Zayn used the distraction to hit a Blue Thunder Bomb for two. Gable rolled out of the ring in front of Otis as they went to another break.

The crowd chanted for Otis as Gable handed out German suplexes to Zayn. Zayn escaped and hit German suplexes and a Michinoku Driver for two. Zayn went for Helluva Kick but Gable picked his leg and applied an ankle lock until Zayn got a rope break.

Gable chucked Zayn out of the ring in front of Otis. Gable distracted the referee but Otis also stopped short of hitting Zayn. Gable berated Otis and slapped him in the face. Gable grabbed the title belt and tried using it as a weapon but Zayn ducked and hit an exploder in the corner.

The ref checked on Gable as Zayn set up for Helluva Kick when Otis suddenly clotheslined Zayn in the corner. Gable hit Zayn with a Chaos Theory suplex for the pinfall win.

— Gable posed in celebration and made sure to stand in front of Otis to block him from the camera. The crowd chanted, “You suck” to Gable’s music like they did for Kurt Angle. That’ll probably stick.

(A QR code flashed before the second commercial break and the announcers acknowledged it after the match.)

********

There was an Iyo Sky video package. She spoke of her dominance and said everyone would have to bow down to her when she became Queen. She said Valkyria has flown too close to the sun. Lyra was in her domain because she was the genius of the sky.

There was a plug for WWE Speed.

********

Jackie Redmond tried interviewing Gable but there was a commotion nearby and she left to find out what happened. The LWO found Cruz Del Toro laid out with an injury. Adam Pearce frantically called for medical.

********

Bron Breakker defeated Kale Dixon via referee stoppage (1:40)

Bron turned his back to his opponent as the bell rang. He was annoyed he was left out of KOTR and seemingly annoyed that he had to wrestle this guy. Bron turned around and immediately speared him. Bron chucked him out of the ring, ran around ringside and hit another spear.

The referee checked on Dixon and called for the bell to stop the match. Bron was annoyed so he ran the ropes and viciously speared Dixon again.

Bron grabbed the steel steps but officials ran down to stop him. Dixon made the mistake of resting his head against the steps so Bron grabbed a chair and smashed it over Dixon’s head. Pearce was speechless. A stretcher was brought out for Dixon as Bron walked off.

This was great. The crowd seemed into Bron.

(Pat McAfee said Dixon was formerly on the Bachelorette and, in fact, he was.)

— After a break, Dixon was wheeled into an ambulance. Kiana James appeared to ask Pearce if he needed assistance but he politely declined.

Pearce saw Bron nearby and asked him what he was thinking. Bron said Pearce can’t control him. This was on Pearce because he didn’t put him in KOTR.

********

There was a video package for Sky vs. Valkyria.

Becky Lynch approached Lyra in Gorilla. Lynch said she knew how good Lyra was and told her to go show everyone why the hard work was worth it.

Queen of the Ring semifinal: Lyra Valkyria defeated IYO SKY (19:17)

This was a first-time-ever match.

Like the opening match, this also went to break about 90 seconds in.

[SECOND HOUR]

Sky dominated Lyra for a while after the break until Lyra slapped her and hit an impressive-looking German suplex. Lyra followed with clotheslines, kicks, an enziguri, a flying crossbody and a fisherman’s suplex for two. Sky followed with a double knee strike for two.

The crowd (which had been very quiet to this point) buzzed as Lyra applied a pendulum swing. Sky kicked out of a cradle and applied a crossface. Lyra got out of it but Sky hit a springboard dropkick and Asai moonsault.

After a second break, they traded strikes until Sky hit a double foot stomp for two. Sky missed a Meteora and Lyra hit a tornado DDT. Lyra hit another version of a fisherman’s buster for two. Lyra blocked a moonsault attempt but Sky powerbombed her out of the corner.

Sky didn’t go for a cover and instead went for the moonsault but Lyra dodged it. Sky tried a sunset flip pin but Lyra sat down into a cover for pinfall and upset win.

This was a pretty good match. The crowd was quiet but they got into it towards the end. They gave it time which made Lyra’s win feel bigger.

— Redmond interviewed Lyra in the ring. Lyra admitted she did not see herself in this position three weeks ago when she got drafted. Lyra believed she could get it done and she was one Nightwing away from becoming Queen of the Ring.

********

R-Truth was with New Catch Republic backstage. Truth was explaining to Pete Dunne how to do the Hokey Pokey. Truth turned his head and Dunne was about to kill him but Tyler Bate stopped him. Bate said they looked forward to facing them for the titles one day and they left.

Miz was worried they would be at a disadvantage against Judgment Day tonight especially if they had Carlito with them. Truth said he spoke to his good buddy Andre the Giant and he had their back tonight. Miz informed him that Andre died 30 years ago. Truth told Miz to trust him.

********

Kyla Braxton interviewed Ilja Dragunov. Ilja said there was no shame in losing to Jey Uso. He was about to speak about Gunther but he was approached by Ricochet. Ricochet said it wasn’t over between them just because Ilja beat him.

Bron Breakker suddenly speared Ricochet into some equipment boxes. Bron stood over Ricochet as officials ran in to check on him.

After a break, Pearce watched as medical staff tended to Ricochet. Dragunov was still there, selling his arm. (Ricochet shoved him away when he saw Bron coming.)

********

There was a video package for Jey Uso vs. Gunther.

Gunther cut a promo in the empty arena earlier today. He admitted he was wrong about Jey Uso who has become the hottest thing on Raw. Thousands of fans will chant his name tonight. Jey would fill them with hope and delusion.

Gunther was in the business of taking hope away and dragging people down to reality. It wasn’t about who was the more exciting act on the way to the ring, it was about who was the better wrestler in the ring. The fans would embrace Gunther when he beats Jey and goes on to become King of the Ring.

********

Judgment Day was backstage with Carlito. Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh told Damian Priest they would bring the tag titles back to where they belonged.

Priest told Carlito the LWO would be pissed over what he did to Del Toro. Carlito knew they were coming after him so he decided to strike first. Now he was laying low until the heat died down.

Priest informed Carlito that they were not the APA and they were not his personal protection. Dominik Mysterio said Carlito came through for Bálor and McDonagh last week. Priest said he would need to keep earning his keep to stick around. McDonagh and Dom left.

Bálor told Priest that a part of him wished they were teaming tonight and said, “But I get it — you’re the champion.” They bumped fists.

After Bálor left, Carlito mentioned the New York Knicks being eliminated. Priest was annoyed and left.

********

Sonya Deville approached Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. Baszler wasn’t exactly happy to see her. Deville introduced herself to Stark and had a proposition for them. Baszler blew her off and left with Stark.

********

It’s been 25 minutes since the previous match ended.

R-Truth & The Miz defeated Finn Bálor & JD McDonagh (w/Dominik Mysterio) to retain the World Tag Team Championships (9:35)

A Dom distraction allowed Judgment Day to take control and they remained in control after a break. Truth made a hot tag and John Cena’s moves including an STF but McDonagh broke it up. Truth tossed McDonagh from the ring and Bálor applied a schoolboy for two followed by a slingblade. McDonagh tagged in but Truth and Miz each handed out five knuckle shuffles.

Carlito ran down but Miz quickly knocked him off the apron and wiped out Bálor with a dive. Truth gave McDonagh a flatliner but Carlito put McDonagh’s foot on the rope to stop the count.

Braun Strowman marched out to his music and he launched Carlito into the barricade.

Strowman chased McDonagh around ringside so McDonagh ran back into the ring and Truth caught him with an AA for the pinfall win. The crowd was happy.

This wasn’t exactly a good match but despite what Gunther said earlier, this wasn’t really about that.

********

Lynch congratulated Lyra on her win. After Lynch left, Liv Morgan sarcastically congratulated Lyra on the win before giving her a cheap shot.

********

Bronson Reed approached Sami Zayn. Reed told Zayn he shouldn’t be worried about Gable’s mind games. Reed called himself soulless. He would use his body as a weapon on Saturday and earn his biggest payday yet.

Otis approached Zayn next. Zayn said Otis cost him his match earlier. Zayn thought he was better than that. Zayn was pissed but Otis apologized. “I’m sorry, I really am.” Zayn believed him because he was a good guy.

Zayn said he’s been in Otis’ shoes before. The sooner Otis stopped listening to Gable and started listening to the fans, he’d be way better off. The crowd loudly chanted for Otis in the background.

********

[THIRD HOUR]

Becky Lynch/Liv Morgan segment

Lynch entered. She noted that Morgan hasn’t beaten her before but we were now dealing with a much different Liv Morgan.

Morgan quickly interrupted. Morgan didn’t care about the other women on the roster and barely cared about Lynch. She only cared about completing her revenge tour.

Lynch said Morgan has finally figured out her purpose but Lynch couldn’t relate because she has known her purpose since she was 15 years old and first walked into a wrestling gym. She wanted equality and to change the game. To break through glass ceilings and main event WrestleManias.

Lynch’s purpose has remained the same. When she left this place, she wanted it to be better than how she found out. Lynch said Morgan’s purpose was revenge but wondered what she would do next once she got it.

Morgan mocked her comments about breaking barriers because Lynch was the most selfish person in the company. Lynch didn’t care about this place or the fans. The crowd chanted “What?” so Morgan said they couldn’t hear her because they had their heads shoved up Becky’s ass. Morgan said she would get her revenge and after ten long years, she would finally stand on top of the division as the champion.

Lynch said the fans knew Morgan was lying. You can’t fool the fans and they knew she would always put her body on the line for them. Lynch was ready for a fight and wanted Morgan to put her money where her mouth was.

Morgan teased getting in the ring but backed off. She would wait until Saturday and become the new champion.

********

Priest was annoyed with Carlito and the rest of Judgment Day. Priest told McDonagh to go to Pearce and request a match against Strowman next week. Priest said he didn’t even recognize them (Judgment Day) anymore. Priest left. Bálor agreed with Priest. He was annoyed too and told McDonagh to talk to Pearce right now.

********

Xavier Woods was given medical clearance and Kofi Kingston was pumped up. Kingston left because he wanted to speak with Pearce about getting them back in tag action.

Karrion Kross and Scarlett approached Woods. Kross was glad that Woods was cleared. He reminded Woods that there was always time to turn things around.

(Kross said this to Kingston last week, not Woods. So he wasn’t “reminding” Woods of anything.)

********

Once again, more than 25 minutes have elapsed since the previous match.

Fatal 4-Way: Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark defeated Maxxine Dupri & Ivy Nile, Katana Chance & Kayden Carter and Dakota Kai & Kairi Sane (9:11)

Another match that barely went 90 seconds before commercials. They traded spots until Dupri hit a reverse worm on Kai. Dupri applied an ankle lock and grapevined the leg but Sane hit an Insane elbow. Baszler put Sane in the Kirifuda Clutch as Stark superkicked Dupri (sort of). Stark elevated Dupri and Baszler knocked her out with a knee strike for the pinfall win.

Baszler and Stark earned a future tag title match.

********

Braxton interviewed Ludwig Kaiser. She wondered if Gunther was overlooking Jey Uso. Kaiser said Gunther has repeatedly proven that he’s superior to everyone. Kaiser hoped Jey took the loss better than Sheamus — the guy who used to love to fight. Sheamus has become nothing but a keyboard warrior. Sheamus could stay home and protect his legacy or he could come back to be put down by Kaiser. Kaiser left.

Drew McIntyre approached Braxton. McIntyre thought it was funny that Pearce didn’t schedule one of his biggest stars tonight. McIntyre said Priest did not get one over on him last week. McIntyre got what he wanted and that was a world title match. Priest was spreading himself too thin just like Seth Rollins did. McIntyre planned on beating Priest “soon.”

********

Otis approached Gable as he was speaking to the Creed Brothers. Gable told them to think about what he said.

Otis informed Gable that he apologized to Zayn. Gable was excited because he figured Otis was playing mind games with Zayn. Gable got really close to Otis’s face and wanted assurance that Otis was going to help him win. Otis was agreeable but Gable wanted to hear the words. Otis reluctantly said, “No matter what.” Gable was happy.

********

Jey Uso cut a promo in the back. He said tonight was the night. He almost beat Gunther the last time they wrestled and he would finish the job tonight. Gunther would catch a Yeet-down and Jey would catch a crown.

The camera followed Jey as he made his way through the back and to the ring. (Both guys entered and they wanted to start the match after the break.)

King of the Ring semifinal: Gunther defeated Jey Uso (17:41)

Jey did his usual string of strikes as the crowd chanted “Yeet.” Jey hit a suicide dive but moments later, Gunther drove him into the ring post and the steel steps. Gunther targeted the arm, driving it into the ring post and the barricade.

Jey tried fighting back after a break but Gunther uppercutted his injured arm. Gunther went to the top but Jey went after him. Gunther applied a kimura as they stood on the ropes but Jey brought him down with a Samoan drop off the middle rope. Jey followed with a flying crossbody for two.

Gunther hit hard chops and Jey fought back but Gunther knocked him down with another chop. Jey nailed a forearm shot, using his left arm, followed by an enziguri. Gunther blocked a superkick and hit another chop but Jey came right back with a superkick for two. Jey hit another superkick followed by stomps in the corner.

Gunther shot out of the corner with a dropkick and hit a powerbomb for two. Gunther applied an arm lock but Jey fought out. Gunther chopped him in the back but Jey applied a cradle for two. Gunther booted Jey’s injured arm and hit a German suplex. Gunther hit a splash off the top for two, followed by a clothesline for two.

Gunther absolutely killed Jey with repeated chops in the corner. Gunther didn’t capitalize because he argued with the referee who backed him out of the corner. Jey then speared Gunther who inadvertently knocked down the referee. Jey hit an Uso Splash but Gunther kicked out because the referee took too long to count.

Jey sat up and Gunther immediately started clobbering him before locking his arm and applying a submission hold. Jey passed out and the referee called for the bell. Gunther advances to the final.

This was pretty good. Gunther has won all of his tournament matches with a submission hold.

Show Recap —

There was a recap of Backlash that very much played up the crowd in France. Perhaps because this aired on Raw, Damian Priest’s win over Jey Uso was shown last (instead of Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles).

Michael Cole said that three first round matches would take place tonight for the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments (instead of all four). The fourth for each will take place at a “live event” over the weekend. Cole also announced that Drew McIntyre was out of the tournament because he was not medically cleared.

Judgment Day entered to start the show. Priest said everyone loved Jey Uso but it didn’t matter because he was still el campeón. Priest wanted to address what happened after his match with Judgment Day. Finn Bálor apologized but Priest said he was the one that needed to apologize. Priest appreciated their help and he was still champion thanks to them.

Priest said he appreciated JD McDonagh and he called Bálor his brother. He hugged them. Dominik Mysterio was just standing there so he joined the hug.

Priest said Bálor would be the next King of the Ring. Bálor said he got a first round bye because McIntyre wasn’t cleared and this was the first step toward the Prince becoming a King. Bálor wanted Samantha Irvin to announce it now.

Before she could, Adam Pearce entered to inform Bálor that he was not getting a bye. His opponent was Jey Uso.

********

King of the Ring – First Round: Jey Uso defeated Finn Bálor (13:36)

Bálor cut off Jey’s comeback attempts before and after a break. Jey fought back with right hands and a flying crossbody for two. Bálor cut him off again with a clothesline but Jey came back with strikes and a superkick. Bálor dodged a splash and hit a dropkick. Jey dodged a Coup de Grace and hit a spear for a nearfall.

Drew McIntyre marched through the crowd which distracted Jey. Bálor applied a schoolboy for two before hitting a slingblade. Jey cut him off with another spear for the pinfall win.

— McIntyre (who got “CM Punk” chants) entered the ring but Jey bailed and celebrated with the fans.

This was an ordinary match where each guy did their signature moves until one guy won.

********

Ivy Nile and Zoey Stark were shown warming up. Becky Lynch was shown arriving. She has an interview with Cole tonight.

There was a video package of Gunther’s win over Sheamus at Clash at the Castle in 2022.

CM Punk segment

In the back, McIntyre complained to Pearce about being replaced by Jey Uso of all people. Pearce said this wasn’t about Jey, this was about McIntyre’s arm. Nobody knew McIntyre was hurt until he said something, so he had medical check him out and he wasn’t cleared. McIntyre was pissed and he left in a black Corvette. (The screen glitched as he left.)

As soon as McIntyre’s car disappeared out of the garage, CM Punk pulled up in a 1980 Camaro. Punk asked Pearce where McIntyre was and Pearce said he just missed him. Punk was disappointed but asked Pearce to play his music.

The camera followed Punk as he made his way through the back. He took a dig at Jackie Redmond over the Toronto Maple Leafs losing. Chad Gable was nearby berating Alpha Academy.

Punk entered the ring. He mentioned being stuck at WWE headquarters and said he was let out just a few hours ago. He planned on picking a fight with McIntyre tonight. Punk cut a quick promo last week but he was willing to stick around to give McIntyre enough time to turn his car around.

He asked everyone to Tweet at McIntyre to let him know that Punk was waiting. Punk wanted to fight McIntyre on top of the same ice that Gordie Howe skated on for the Hartford Whalers.

Punk said McIntyre didn’t end his WrestleMania dreams, he only postponed them. Punk called himself a five-tool player but McIntyre was just a tool. McIntyre picked a fight with the pettiest man on the roster. Maybe even on earth. McIntyre was a hater who hated everything about Punk. But all McIntyre did was talk about him. Punk wondered if McIntyre hated him or if he hated himself.

Punk broke McIntyre’s elbow and the next time he showed up, Punk would break his face. He would also break his heart. Punk kept looking at his watch as he awaited McIntyre who never showed and Punk said McIntyre must be afraid of him.

(Punk is a great promo but this was just ok. The point of this promo was that Punk was killing time for McIntyre to return. Unfortunately, it really felt like Punk was killing time.)

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Ricochet about KOTR. Ricochet was ready to define a legacy for himself. Braun Strowman showed up to embrace Ricochet. Strowman wanted him to remind everyone why he was called King Ricochet.

Queen of the Ring – First Round: Iyo Sky (w/Dakota Kai & Kairi Sane) defeated Natalya (10:24)

Pat McAfee mentioned that tomorrow would have been Owen Hart’s birthday.

[SECOND HOUR]

Natalya hit a superplex after a break for two. She fought out of a crossface but Sky followed with a double foot stomp and dropkick for two. They traded reversals until Natalya hit a sit-out powerbomb for two.

Natalya applied a Sharpshooter but Sky quickly countered and drove her into the bottom turnbuckle. Sky followed with a Meteora in the corner and a moonsault for the pinfall win. This was pretty good for the TV time they had.

— After the match, Dakota Kai announced she was taking the place of an injured Asuka against Lyra Valkyria. Kai issued a warning to Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Becky Lynch because Damage CTRL were coming for everything.

********

There was a video package for Ilja Dragunov.

King of the Ring – First Round: Ilja Dragunov defeated Ricochet (16:34)

After a break, Ricochet tried a moonsault off the apron but Dragunov caught him and hit a release German suplex on the mats. Dragunov followed with a springboard dropkick for two. Ricochet hit a hurricanrana off the top, consecutive suicide dives and a flip dive.

After a second break, Dragunov hit a leaping senton off the top for two. Dragunov followed with chops but Ricochet hit a superkick. They traded kicks until Ricochet hit a Finlay roll and Lionsault for two. Dragunov responded with a running knee strike but Ricochet hit a poison-rana. Ricochet tried another Lionsault but Dragunov knocked him out of mid-air with an uppercut.

Dragunov hit an H-Bomb and went for Torpedo Moscow but Ricochet countered with a Recoil. Ricochet went to the top but Dragunov brought him down with a superplex. Dragunov hit one more H-Bomb for the pinfall win. This was a strong match.

Dragunov shook hands with Ricochet after the match. He will face Jey Uso in the next round.

********

Redmond interviewed Sheamus. Sheamus mentioned going through several medical procedures just to return to the ring. He didn’t like Gunther. They have had banger after banger but tonight, he planned on kicking Gunther’s ass.

Queen of the Ring – First Round: Zoey Stark defeated Ivy Nile (5:19)

Nile hit a delayed vertical suplex early on, which is a good power spot for someone who happens to be smaller than her opponent. Stark came back with a springboard dropkick for two. Nile hit a bulldog off the top for two. Stark hit a sliding kick for two. Stark knocked Nile off the top, hit a reverse suplex and Z-360 for the pinfall win.

********

R-Truth did some comedy with Miz and Dan Hurley – head coach of the UConn Huskies. Truth thought the NCAA was a small wrestling promotion.

Bron Breakker approached Pearce. Breakker wanted to know why he wasn’t in KOTR. Pearce said they could speak in his office.

********

Priest told Bálor he didn’t need to apologize for losing to Jey Uso. It was only one match. McDonagh said Bálor probably wasn’t 100% after Strowman attacked them. Priest said McDonagh could take care of Strowman.

Dom and his mustache entered with Carlito. Priest was pissed because Carlito cost him his moment at Backlash in Puerto Rico a year ago. Carlito said if he scratched their back, maybe they could return the favour. Priest didn’t care what Carlito had going on and told Dom to get him out of there.

********

Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed ended in a disqualification (1:42)

They rushed to show off some power moves and you could tell why they were rushing. Sami Zayn quickly ran in to attack Gable for the DQ. They traded some spots until Reed laid them both out.

Pearce confronted Reed in the back. Reed didn’t care about Gable or Zayn, he only cared about the IC title. Reed said Pearce knew what he had to do.

This was weak.

********

There was a video package for Lyra Valkyria.

[THIRD HOUR]

Gunther said he didn’t care about putting on bangers. He wanted to be the greatest of all time. He would have no problem exposing Sheamus as a weak-minded people-pleaser. Sheamus would be no obstacle for the Ring General.

********

Becky Lynch sit-down interview

Cole interviewed Lynch in the ring. He first asked Lynch about the big hat she wore to the Kentucky Derby and they showed a picture. I think this was meant to bring some levity to the segment before moving on to the real stuff but the crowd didn’t care about this at all.

They moved on to the championship. Lynch put over Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, Kiana James and Lyra Valkyria. Lynch droned on about whatever until Liv Morgan interrupted.

Morgan was bored too and was annoyed that Lynch didn’t mention her. She was tired of being overlooked and overestimated. Morgan reminded Lynch that she was a former MITB winner, women’s champion and tag champion. She beat Nia Jax and took out Rhea Ripley. After all that, Morgan couldn’t believe Lynch still didn’t respect her.

Lynch said Morgan didn’t let her finish. Morgan was getting her title match at King & Queen of the Ring in three weeks. Lynch said Morgan has done a lot but she has never beaten her.

Morgan knew what she had been missing all this time: purpose. Now that she had her purpose, she knew she could beat Lynch. Her purpose was taking everything Ripley loved which meant winning the women’s title.

Damage CTRL interrupted. Kai reiterated what she said earlier and they surrounded the ring like the Shield.

Lynch and Morgan stood back-to-back ready to fight but Morgan suddenly bailed from the ring. She laughed and said this wasn’t her problem. Damage CTRL attacked Lynch until Valkyria jogged out to make the save.

This was another weak talking segment.

********

Redmond interviewed Sami Zayn. Zayn said his issues with Gable were personal, while Reed was all business. Zayn offered a triple threat match at King & Queen of the Ring. Zayn said he was knocked down tonight just like he has been many times before. But when the pressure was on, that was when he was at his best and he would walk out of Saudi Arabia still the Intercontinental Champion.

Queen of the Ring – First Round: Lyra Valkyria defeated Dakota Kai (8:46)

They aired an ad for a movie 30 seconds into the match and went to an actual commercial break a minute or two later.

Lyra was on offence after a break, hitting strikes, a flying crossbody and a fisherman’s suplex for two. With Lyra draped over the middle rope, Kai hit a stomp for two. Kai followed with a running corner kick for two. Kai missed a GTK but hit a scorpion kick. Lyra countered Kai’s next move into Nightwing for the pinfall win.

********

Kofi Kingston promo

Kingston cut a pre-taped promo in the back. He said this tournament was supposed to be where Xavier Woods became a two-time King of the Ring but Gunther took that away. Kingston didn’t know when Woods would return. If Gunther advanced, Kingston couldn’t wait to give him what he deserved.

But first, Kingston would have to beat Rey Mysterio — the legend and the icon and the man he looked up to growing up. He respected Rey, but he had to put him down unapologetically like his name was Kendrick Lamar or Drake. He had to win this tournament in honour of Woods because, after all this time, three words still rang true: New Day rocks.

This was good.

********

Next week on Raw:

  • KOTR quarter-final: Jey Uso vs. Ilja Dragunov
  • KOTR quarter-final: Gunther or Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston or Rey Mysterio
  • KOTR quarter-final: Lyra Valkyria vs. Zoey Stark
  • KOTR quarter-final: Iyo Sky vs. Shayna Baszler or Zelina Vega

********

King of the Ring – First Round: Gunther (w/Ludwig Kaiser) defeated Sheamus (21:00)

They repeatedly smacked each other hard on the chest and Sheamus eventually got the better of Gunther ahead of a break with a tackle off the apron.

After the break, Gunther chopped Sheamus in the back (and sweat went flying). As Gunther held a rest hold, they zoomed in on Sheamus’ back and you could clearly see Gunther’s hand mark on his skin. Sheamus fought back with a backbreaker but Gunther responded with a clothesline for two. Sheamus hit White Noise for two and a powerslam for two.

Sheamus hit ten (seventeen) beats of the Bodhran but Gunther dodged a Brogue Kick. Gunther distracted the referee while Kaiser dropkicked Sheamus’ knee. The referee figured out what happened and tossed Kaiser from ringside. Gunther was happy because the damage was done. The ref checked on Sheamus as they went to break.

Gunther smashed Sheamus’ knee against the ring post during the break and held a leg lock when they returned. Sheamus fought to his feet but Gunther kicked his leg out of his leg. Gunther ripped off Sheamus’ knee pad and continued to target his leg.

Sheamus responded with a clothesline and a great-looking lifting knee strike for two. Sheamus went for a Brogue Kick but his knee gave out and Gunther hit a powerbomb for two. (It often looks fake when a wrestler’s knee suddenly gives out but Sheamus sold it well.) Gunther applied a half-crab but Sheamus quickly got a rope break.

Gunther went to the top but Sheamus cut him off and hit a Celtic Cross for two. Gunther hit a German suplex but Sheamus no-sold it, popped up and hit a knee strike followed by a Brogue Kick. Sheamus took too long to make a cover and Gunther kicked out.

Gunther applied a half-crab and pulled Sheamus to the middle of the ring. Sheamus tried dragging himself back to the rope but he tapped out.

They were right up against the clock and the show ended as Gunther got to his feet to celebrate.

This was excellent.

Show Recap —

US Champion Logan Paul was shown arriving with IShowSpeed and Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (who got a huge reaction). They were welcomed by Damian Priest and Judgment Day. Priest congratulated Paul on his success and Paul returned the favour. Paul said Priest would destroy the ugly Uso at Backlash. Judgment Day, Paul, IShowSpeed, and Mahomes entered the arena together.

(We’ll see if he’s used at all but Mahomes seems like a huge get for the show.)

Michael Cole and Pat McAfee ran down the draft rules while standing ringside.

Opening segment

Becky Lynch entered. She said Kansas City might be where The Man was born. This arena was where her face got busted and she let the world know this was her show now. She stood there as champion six years later and it was still her show. The crowd chanted for Becky.

Lynch said it took nearly two years to regain the championship which led to “You deserve it” chants. Lynch didn’t want to just hold the title, she wanted to defend it. She wanted to fight the best.

Liv Morgan interrupted. Morgan said Lynch should look no further for her next challenger. The crowd chanted “Mami.” Morgan felt like Lynch owed her one. Lynch was only the champion because Morgan did what Lynch couldn’t and that was take out Rhea Ripley. Morgan said this was still her revenge tour and she would not stop until she got everything she wanted.

Lynch admitted that she wouldn’t be champion without Morgan but Morgan would be champion right now if not for what Lynch did to her (in last week’s battle royal).

Nia Jax interrupted. Cole explained that the new rosters weren’t in effect yet. Jax got a ton of heat — way more than Morgan. Jax said they were lucky she got drafted to Smackdown. She said tonight was her last night on Raw (the crowd popped) and before she left, she planned on taking one of them with her.

Morgan dropkicked her off the apron and accepted her challenge for a match.

********

Jey Uso, Sami Zayn and Bronson Reed were shown arriving. Reed wore a Calgary Hitmen t-shirt. Zayn defends the IC title tonight against Reed.

Stephanie McMahon entered to make the first round of night two draft picks.

WWE Draft Round 1

Pick 1: Raw selects Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser (Imperium)
Pick 2: Smackdown selects Jade Cargill
Pick 3: Raw selects Damage CTRL (Asuka, Kairi Sane, Iyo Sky, Dakota Kai)
Pick 4: Smackdown selects Kevin Owens

So Raw got six people, Smackdown got two. McAfee even pointed this out.

********

Gunther (w/Ludwig Kaiser) defeated Xavier Woods (w/Kofi Kingston) (16:33)

They went to break a minute into the match. The screen “glitched” as Gunther maintained control. Woods tried fighting back with chops so Gunther just chopped him down. Woods chopped Gunther off the middle rope and hit a missile dropkick for two. Woods’ leg got caught in the ropes moments later so Gunther stomped his knee.

Gunther continued to target Woods’ leg following another break and mocked him as he did it. Gunther went for a splash but Woods got his knees up. Woods tried to fire back but Gunther chopped him down and applied a half crab.

It seemed like there was no escape for Woods so Kingston grabbed a white towel. Kingston teased throwing it in but Woods begged him not to. Woods almost fought out but Gunther applied an STF and Woods tapped out.

This was a pretty one-sided win for Gunther.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Jey Uso. She wondered if he was feeling any pressure but Jey said no and that Priest would receive a Yeet-down at Backlash. She asked about Logan Paul’s earlier comment. Jey was glad they signed a Paul brother but wished it was the one with a winning record. The crowd liked that line.

********

Patrick Mahomes was in the first row and Samantha Irvin announced him to the crowd to a big ovation. Chiefs players Trey Smith and Creed Humphrey were there too. They aired a clip of Smith and Humphrey joining a young fan in the ring before the show started. It was the fan Smith helped to safety during the shooting at the Super Bowl parade.

Paul and IShowSpeed entered to make the next round of picks.

WWE Draft Round 2

Pick 1: Raw selects CM Punk
Pick 2: Smackdown selects Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford, Angelo Dawkins & B-Fab (The Pride)
Pick 3: Raw selects Braun Strowman
Pick 4: Smackdown selects Tiffany Stratton

The crowd chanted for Punk after his name was called. Cole notes that Drew McIntyre must be pissed that Punk was picked and he wasn’t.

********

Paul made his way to the ring. Paul said he spoke the truth when he said Priest would beat Jey Uso. Jey leaving the Bloodline was a mistake because he couldn’t win a title on his own — unlike Paul.

Jey Uso interrupted. Jey asked the crowd if they thought he could beat Priest and become champion. They said “Yeet.” Jey asked if they thought he should beat up Paul. They said “Yeet.” Paul said “Yeet” too but the crowd didn’t do it with him.

Paul trash-talked Jey as Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh marched to the ring. Jey didn’t wait to get attacked so he went after Judgment Day but they got the better of him.

Mahomes gave Paul his three Super Bowl rings and Paul put them on. Paul took a swing but Jey ducked and Paul decked McDonagh. Paul and Bálor acted shocked while Jey was amused. Jey went after Bálor but Paul jumped him and Jey was down again.

Braun Strowman entered to make the save. Paul bailed from the ring as Strowman laid out Bálor with a chokeslam.

Strowman drew his attention to Mahomes in the crowd. Mahomes’ teammates Smith and Humphrey stood up beside him. Jey pulled Strowman away and calmed things down — even though Mahomes gave Paul the rings to take him out.

Jey and Strowman left together.

********

R-Truth was in the back making some sort of deal with Chad Gable. Miz showed up and wanted to know what was going on. This led to some dumb comedy as Cole snickered into his mic. Truth didn’t realize it was the WWE Draft and not the NFL Draft.

After Miz and Truth left, Gable was suddenly booted out of nowhere by Sami Zayn.

********

Kelley asked Booker T for his thoughts on the draft so far. Booker liked the picks of Cargill and Punk. Drew McIntyre showed up behind him. McIntyre asked Booker if he thought it made sense for the guy who’s had one match this year before getting injured should get drafted over the guy who won the world title at WrestleMania. Booker wondered where that title was now.

McIntyre thought he was in a backwards world. He knew Booker back in the day and he knows how Booker really felt about Punk. McIntyre told Booker that he’s changed.

********

Cole noted that if Reed won the title, he would be protected in the draft and Zayn would move into Reed’s slot.

Intercontinental Championship match: Sami Zayn defeated Bronson Reed via disqualification (8:51)

Zayn hit a dive and went for a flying crossbody but Reed caught him and hit a powerslam and a senton. Zayn fought back after a break but Reed hit a Uranage for two and a sit-out powerbomb for two. Reed hit a shoulder tackle off the apron but as he slipped back in the ring, Zayn nailed him with a Helluva Kick.

As Zayn went for a cover, Chad Gable grabbed him and hit a German suplex for the DQ.

Gable put Zayn in an ankle lock and after he let go, Reed flattened Zayn with a Tsunami.

Gable posed with the IC title belt so Reed dropped Gable with a Death Valley driver. Reed posed with the belt.

********

Ron Simmons and JBL entered to announce the next picks.

WWE Draft Round 3

Pick 1: Raw selects LWO (Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde, Zelina Vega & Carlito)
Pick 2: Smackdown selects Legado Del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Elektra Lopez, Angel & Berto)
Pick 3: Raw selects Drew McIntyre
Pick 4: Smackdown selects Shinsuke Nakamura

They noted that Carlito was still technically with LWO. Raw got six people with that one pick.

McIntyre entered. He wondered if APA had been drinking since Friday because it was stupid he was only getting picked in the third round. McIntyre said Punk was no longer anti-establishment. He was a corporate ass-kisser.

McIntyre congratulated Punk on finally accomplishing something — Punk fractured his elbow at WrestleMania. However, unlike Punk, McIntyre showed up every week because he was a real man.

Punk’s music hit and McIntyre looked around. Punk appeared in a suite. Punk called McIntyre a little bitch (even though Punk was the one in the safety of a suite). McIntyre marched to the back.

********

Gable approached Alpha Academy in the back. He wasn’t impressed that Maxxine Dupri eliminated two people in the battle royal because she didn’t win. He wondered if she wanted a ribbon for participating. He told Otis and Tozawa to win him a freakin’ championship tonight.

********

Kelley interviewed Bron Breakker. Breakker said Adam Pearce knew he was the best pick because he was on Raw to take over. Sheamus approached him and Breakker got in his face for interrupting. Sheamus told him to calm down. Sheamus was impressed and said Breakker reminded him of a younger version of himself. Sheamus stopped speaking upon seeing McIntyre storm by. Breakker didn’t seem to care about Sheamus’ compliments.

********

Candice LeRae (w/Indi Hartwell) defeated Maxxine Dupri (w/Ivy Nile) (1:44)

Dupri hit a Northern Lights suplex and a reverse Caterpillar. Dupri applied an ankle lock but lost focus when Hartwell shoved Nile into the ring post. This allowed LeRae to slip out and hit a Wicked Stepsister (curb stomp) for the pinfall win.

********

Rey Mysterio (with LWO) told Kelley they had mixed emotions but they were excited to be on Raw. He had unfinished business with Carlito.

Dominik showed up to mock them and tell them that Judgment Day ran Raw. Rey thought that was funny given that Dom hasn’t been drafted yet. Rey asked him, “What’s that on your lip, Dirty Sanchez.” Dom sheepishly backed away while saying, “You’re lucky I’m not cleared.”

********

McIntyre stormed through the suite level demanding to know where Punk was. He opened a few doors but couldn’t find him. He finally did find Punk’s suite but Punk was gone. The only thing remaining was a signed photo of Punk.

Punk’s music hit at this moment and he entered the ring as McIntyre looked on. Punk said he didn’t want to waste the fans’ time so he planned on doing his promo in less time than McIntyre held the world title — 5 minutes and 46 seconds.

Punk said McIntyre was like an ex-girlfriend he couldn’t get rid of. Punk was glad he hurt McIntyre’s elbow. McIntyre prayed for Punk to get injured but Punk hurt McIntyre himself. Punk was drafted ahead of McIntyre for a simple reason: he was the best in the world.

Punk wasn’t mad or out for revenge because McIntyre had given him purpose. Losers hoped and prayed for things to happen while winners made things happen. When Punk was cleared, he promised to make McIntyre’s life a living hell.

(The stuff with Punk and McIntyre tonight was really good and their inevitable match feels like a big one.)

********

Teddy Long and Alundra Blayze entered to announce the next round of picks. Punk embraced them on the way out. (Blayze initially backed off when Punk asked for a hug but eventually accepted his embrace.)

WWE Draft Round 4

Pick 1: Raw selects Judgment Day (Finn Bálor, Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh)
Pick 2: Smackdown selects Naomi
Pick 3: Raw selects Ilja Dragunov
Pick 4: Smackdown selects Chelsea Green & Piper Niven

A pumped-up Dragunov was shown reacting live at NXT while the roster gave him a standing ovation. Shawn Michaels embraced him and gave him a Raw hat (which he did not put on).

********

Liv Morgan defeated Nia Jax (10:31)

Tiffany Stratton watched the match from the front row.

They went to break and came back with a commercial for a movie. Morgan bashed Jax’s head repeatedly against the ring post but Jax came back with a Samoan Drop for two. Jax climbed to the middle rope and set up for Annihilator but Morgan used Jax’s arm to yank her against the top turnbuckle. Morgan followed with a powerbomb for two.

Naomi entered through the crowd to attack Stratton before Jax knocked Naomi off the apron. Morgan used the distraction to hit a Codebreaker and Oblivion for the pinfall win.

********

Kelley asked Booker about the draft again and he congratulated Dragunov on getting selected. He mentioned Trick Williams and Roxanne Perez as potential future picks. Kelley approached Pearce and asked about his feelings so far. Pearce was just happy Smackdown took Chelsea Green.

********

Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley entered to make the next round of picks. They brought out a table and did their catchphrase.

WWE Draft Round 5

Pick 1: Raw selects Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods
Pick 2: Smackdown selects Pretty Deadly
Pick 3: Raw selects Lyra Valkyria
Pick 4: Smackdown selects Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell

They showed an emotional Valkyria reacting live as the NXT roster gave her a big ovation.

********

Miz rapping alongside Truth during their entrance is real embarrassing.

R-Truth & The Miz defeated Akira Tozawa & Otis to retain the World Tag Team Championships (2:00 of TV time)

Alpha Academy did not get an entrance and this match started during a break. Miz booted Tozawa off the apron and Tozawa took a huge flip bump onto the mats. Otis dropped Miz and hit a Caterpillar elbow drop. Tozawa went for a big diving senton but Miz got his knees up. Miz and Truth gave Tozawa their double-team finisher for the pinfall win.

These belts are pointless on Truth and Miz.

********

Dom was annoyed that Judgment Day fell to the fourth round. Priest said they shouldn’t be surprised. Priest told them to stick to the plan and get it done tonight in their match. (McDonagh had a huge make-up bruise on the forehead as a result of Paul’s loaded punch.)

********

Pearce and Nick Aldis announced the final round of picks.

WWE Draft Round 6

Pick 1: Raw selects The Final Testament (Karrion Kross, Scarlett, AOP & Paul Ellering)
Pick 2: Smackdown selects Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa
Pick 3: Raw selects Bronson Reed
Pick 4: Smackdown selects Blair Davenport

Davenport looked completely shocked and the NXT roster gave her an ovation.

Davenport’s scouting report mentioned, “gothic charisma meets cold-hearted fury.” McAfee seemed baffled by “gothic charisma” and Cole quickly moved on.

********

Six-man tag match: Jey Uso, Ricochet & Andrade defeated Finn Bálor, JD McDonagh & World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest (w/Dominik Mysterio) (10:39)

They went to break 90 seconds into the match after the good guys hit dives. The heels were in control anyway after the break (with no explanation). Priest worked over Ricochet before kicking Jey off the apron. Andrade tried to get in which distracted the referee long enough for McDonagh and Bálor to get some shots in on Ricochet.

Ricochet gave McDonagh a Recoil and made the hot tag to Jey who knocked Priest off the apron before hitting Bálor with right hands, a thrust kick, an uppercut and enziguri. Jey hit Bálor with a flying crossbody but McDonagh broke up the cover. Andrade hit McDonagh with a back elbow before Priest kicked Andrade and planted Ricochet with a flatliner.

Priest tagged himself in and clotheslined Jey. Jey slipped out of a Razor’s Edge attempt and hit a Samoan Drop.

Dom distracted the ref as Jey went to the top rope. Priest was going to chokeslam Jey off the top but McDonagh stepped in and shoved Jey off the top instead. Priest was annoyed at McDonagh for getting involved. As Priest and McDonagh argued, Jey superkicked Priest into Bálor. Jey superkicked Priest again and superkicked McDonagh too.

They claimed Bálor tagged in at some point but I think Priest just knocked him off the apron. Anyway, Jey gave Bálor a spear and splash for the pinfall win. Jey posed with Andrade and Ricochet.

The crowd seemed relatively quiet for this match.

— Jey and Priest faced off as the show ended.

WWE Raw live results: Battle royal for vacant Women’s World title

Date: April 22, 2024
Location: Schottenstein Center in Columbus, OH

**********

Show Recap —

Michael Cole and Pat McAfee stood in the ring and welcomed us to Raw. McAfee said tonight’s match to determine a new Women’s Champion would be just the fourth time a world champion would be crowned in a battle royal and called it one of the biggest matches in company history.

There was a Rhea Ripley video package. Liv Morgan and Becky Lynch were shown arriving earlier today.

********

Jey Uso and Damian Priest segment

Jey Uso entered. He said Backlash was in two weeks and he had a lot to prove. He had to prove he was Main Event Jey Uso. He had to beat Damian Priest to make everything he went through worth it.

Priest entered. Jey was ready for a fight but Priest told him to relax. Priest put him over and said he’s earned this spot. Priest told a story about a match they had in the past where Jey whooped his ass so bad that Priest approached him in the locker room to tell him he earned his respect. That’s why he wanted him in Judgment Day. They went out for drinks that night and Priest paid the bill. Jey said he took an Uber home.

Priest also remembered Jey telling him that they were next. Priest was proud to stand there with him and tell him that he was right. But Jey was only half right because Priest was the champion. Priest called Jey the first on a list of people that the machine would feed him to make the belt look good. Jey could then lead the fans to rise for their campeón.

Jey was offended that Priest only thought of him as a tag team guy (even though he didn’t say that) and thought that was rich coming from someone in a stable. Jey told Priest the only reason he was the leader of Judgment Day was because Ripley was hurt. Jey wanted Priest to tell Ripley he said hi. He also said Priest was just Dominik’s bitch. Jey said Priest was the one being fed to him because he was the next champion.

JD McDonagh tried to jump Jey from behind but Jey saw it coming. Jey went to superkick McDonagh but McDonagh ducked and Jey hit Priest. Jey had a slight moment of regret but he brushed it off and left. Priest got up and was pissed at McDonagh.

********

Chad Gable and Gunther were shown arriving earlier today.

They plugged King and Queen of the Ring.

R-Truth & The Miz defeated Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano to retain the World Tag Team Championships (10:07)

It seemed like Ciampa hurt his knee early in the match but he appeared fine after a commercial break. Miz tried a springboard move but Ciampa nailed him with a mid-air knee strike. Truth tagged in and performed John Cena’s moves but Gargano cut him off with a superkick. Ciampa followed with a Pedigree for a nearfall. Gargano took out Miz with a suicide dive while Truth cradled Ciampa for two.

DIY hit Truth with Meet in the Middle but Miz yanked Gargano out of the ring as he made the cover. Miz chucked Ciampa over the barricade and tagged in. Miz and Truth hit Gargano with their combo Skull Crushing Finale/Flatliner for the pinfall win.

— Truth and Miz embraced Gargano after the match. Miz offered a handshake to Ciampa but Ciampa left the ring instead. The crowd booed.

********

Priest admonished McDonagh in the back. They were approached by Dom (and his mustache) and Santos Escobar. Dom was supposed to team with McDonagh tonight but his arm was in a sling. He told Priest that he was banged up so he brought in Escobar as his replacement tonight. (Dom cleared it with Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce.) Priest was annoyed and told Escobar to handle things tonight. Escobar told him not to worry.

********

Gunther segment

Gunther entered with Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser. Gunther said he wasn’t here to talk about WrestleMania or take shots at Sami Zayn. He elevated the Intercontinental Championship over his 666-day reign to heights it had never seen and he became the greatest IC Champion in history.

Gunther walked around with a target on his back for two years but now that weight has been lifted. Gunther said “thank you” to Zayn for lifting that weight. He could now be the hunter instead of the hunted. He declared himself for the King of the Ring tournament. After he won KOTR, he could decide which championship he wanted to go after. He warned every champion that they would be hunted by the general of the ring and the soon-to-be King of the Ring.

New Day interrupted. Xavier Woods noted he was the defending King of the Ring and called Gunther a usurper to his throne. Woods would cement his legacy by becoming a two-time King of the Ring. Gunther called him a clown king. Gunther said he would win the tournament and reestablish the prestige of KOTR. Gunther said Woods won the tournament, covered himself and gold and pretended to be a champion. New Day mocked Gunther for being a former champion.

Gunther wanted Imperium to take care of New Day. Woods was annoyed because they’ve already wrestled them so many times. New Day accepted the match anyway and Woods said he would take care of Gunther in KOTR.

********

Piper Niven, Chelsea Green and Nia Jax were shown arriving earlier.

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods defeated Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci (8:38)

[SECOND HOUR]

(Kaiser turned on Vinci after the match.)

Imperium were in control after a break but Woods made a hot tag and hit Vinci with a tornado DDT for two. Kingston tagged in but Vinci turned him inside out with a clothesline. Imperium tried a double-team move but Woods intercepted and Kingston was able to counter. New Day hit Vinci with UpUpDownDown (backbreaker/foot stomp combo) for the pinfall win.

— Gunther was pissed and he stared a hole through Kaiser before leaving.

Kaiser helped Vinci to his feet but drove him into the side of the ring. Kaiser tossed Vinci around ringside and drove him into the steel steps. Kaiser placed Vinci face-first on the steps and was about to kill him but officials ran down to stop Kaiser.

Officials escorted Kaiser away but he sprinted around the ring and dropkicked Vinci’s head as he dangled over the steel steps. This got “holy sh*t” chants.

Kaiser marched to the back where Gunther awaited. Gunther was pleased.

*******

There was an Andrade video package where he targeted Judgment Day. He said he was not their fool or their servant. He was now their biggest problem.

Drew McIntyre and Sheamus segment

McIntyre entered and was greeted with “CM Punk” chants. He sat cross-legged in the ring and asked the crowd why they insisted on chanting for Punk every time he came out. McIntyre informed the fans that Punk hated them and the only person he hated more than the fans was himself. There was one “What” chant so McIntyre told them to say it again if they French-kiss their cousins. A few people did.

McIntyre called Punk a coward and said Priest could never beat him one-on-one. McIntyre didn’t get a title rematch like everyone else, he had to compete in a fatal four-way instead. Punk got involved and Jey Uso took advantage like a coward. McIntyre wasn’t going to complain and would instead come out swinging. His next prize was King of the Ring.

Sheamus interrupted. Sheamus wondered what was going on with McIntyre. Sheamus said McIntyre wasn’t taking responsibility for his own mistakes. Sheamus said McIntyre got his moment at WrestleMania 40 in front of his family but he blew it. He blew it over some social media spat (with Punk). McIntyre threw it all away over a meme and a t-shirt.

Sheamus said they were friends who had banger after banger after banger together. As McIntyre’s friend, Sheamus wanted him to know that a one-armed Punk kicked his ass. McIntyre said Sheamus should know better than anyone what Punk has done to him and did to him when he was younger. Sheamus called him obsessed.

McIntyre said they might have had banger after banger after banger but it looked like Sheamus has had burger after burger after burger. Sheamus laughed and responded, “I can lose the weight but you can’t lose stupid.”

McIntyre said guys in the back were mocking Sheamus’ weight during his match but McIntyre stood up for him. Sheamus didn’t care what they said because it didn’t bother him. McIntyre did care because Sheamus was his friend. McIntyre told the truth and he was Sheamus’ only friend here.

McIntyre said they’ve always been able to fight and have pints after. McIntyre was past that now. He only fought if it was worthwhile and this wasn’t worthwhile. McIntyre was still Sheamus’ friend and said he would remain at ringside for his match to “watch your back.” (McIntyre’s tone changed when he said that, leaving it ambiguous what he really meant.)

These guys were good here.

********

Sheamus defeated Shinsuke Nakamura (11:22)

Nakamura targeted Sheamus’ neck but Sheamus fought back after a break and hit an avalanche White Noise for a close nearfall. Sheamus looked at McIntyre allowing Nakamura to hit him from behind with a knee strike. Sheamus countered a Kinshasa into a power slam. Nakamura avoided a Brogue Kick but Sheamus responded with a knee strike for two. Nakamura hit a few strikes but Sheamus suddenly hit Brogue Kick for the pinfall win.

This was good while it lasted. They’ve wrestled before but this was their first televised singles match.

********

There was a video package of Zayn beating Gable last week and Gable turning on him.

Cathy Kelley interviewed Zayn. Zayn was angry and hurt. He had a lot to say but was biting his tongue. He wanted to hear what Gable had to say tonight because he didn’t know how Gable could defend his actions.

Bronson Reed approached Zayn and said he had bigger problems. Zayn told him they could fight any time, any place. Reed left and Kelley was about to continue the interview but Reed suddenly decked him. Officials pulled Reed away but Reed crushed Zayn into some equipment boxes. Reed said he would be the next IC Champion.

********

Chad Gable segment

Gable entered with Maxxine Dupri, Otis and Akira Tozawa. Dupri, Otis and Tozawa wore their colourful Alpha Academy gear, while Gable wore a suit.

Gable said what he did to Zayn was justified. Zayn winning in Montreal wasn’t enough for him. Zayn rubbed it in his face. Zayn saw him weeping in the corner and placed the belt right in front of him. Gable was the bigger man and he raised Zayn’s hand. That wasn’t enough for Zayn either.

Zayn celebrated with his wife in the front row knowing Gable was standing right there. Zayn knew that was his moment. That should have been Gable celebrating at WrestleMania with his daughter. Instead, he wasted his time training Zayn and he’s been wasting his time training a bunch of losers.

He admonished Tozawa for raking up loss after loss every week. He called Dupri pretty as a princess but dumb as a box of rocks. He wondered what else he had to do for her because he’d gotten nothing in return and it was pathetic. The crowd chanted for Otis as Gable turned his attention to him. Gable called Otis the biggest disappointment of them all.

Gable said this is why they signed up for the Academy. They were getting honest feedback and couldn’t be upset with him for this. They were now going to focus on him and they were all going to win his IC title together — no matter what. The crowd chanted “No.” Gable wanted to hear them say it. Gable put the mic to Otis who hesitated and said, “No matter what.” Gable was pleased and he left on his own.

This was pretty good.

********

Dom approached Ricochet. Ricochet was upset that Dom wasn’t cleared because he looked forward to beating him. Ricochet called McDonagh a bobblehead and he would beat him on Speed too.

After Ricochet left, Liv Morgan approached Dom. The segment ended before either of them spoke.

********

Nia Jax cut a quick promo stating her intention to win the Women’s title.

Ricochet & Andrade defeated Santos Escobar & JD McDonagh (w/Dominik Mysterio) (11:52)

The heels took control ahead of a break after Dom got involved. Andrade made a hot tag and hit Escobar with dragon screws and a running double knee strike for two. Ricochet tagged back in and hit a springboard clothesline and standing shooting star but McDonagh broke up the cover. Escobar and McDonagh gave Andrade a double vertical suplex. Ricochet tried a springboard clothesline but Escobar caught him with a mid-air knee strike.

Escobar brought Ricochet off the top with a hurricanrana but Ricochet flipped over into a leg drop on McDonagh. Andrade wiped out Escobar with a back elbow and gave McDonagh his finisher for the pinfall win. (It seems they’ve renamed Andrade’s finisher to “The Shadow.”)

— Priest attacked Andrade and Ricochet from behind after the match. He gave Ricochet a Razor’s Edge and planted Andrade with a chokeslam. Priest told Dom and McDonagh that he didn’t need them, they needed him.

(This match was fine and they tried to do some creative stuff at the end. This was also the third tag match of the night and it still felt a bit samey as WWE TV tag matches don’t differ all that much.)

********

There was a Zoey Stark video promo.

Jackie Redmond interviewed Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. This was quickly interrupted by a loud commotion off-screen. The camera cut to Jax and Morgan trying to fight as officials kept them separate.

Becky Lynch strolled by and took the mic from Redmond. She marched through the back and cut a promo as she made her way to Gorilla. She stopped along the way to give Dupri some words of encouragement.

********

Next week on Raw:

  • Night two of the draft (night one is on Smackdown)
  • Logan Paul appears
  • Six-man tag match: Jey Uso, Ricochet & Andrade vs. Priest, McDonagh & Finn Bálor

********

Becky Lynch won a Battle Royal to win the Women’s World Championship (21:44)

Maxxine Dupri eliminated Candice LeRae first. Indi Hartwell booted Dupri but Dupri eliminated her moments later. There were no eliminations during a commercial break.

Kayden Carter and Katana Chance worked together but Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark got the better of them. Baszler dumped Chance onto Carter’s shoulders on the apron and Stark superkicked them off the apron for the elimination.

Nia Jax slammed Ivy Nile into the ring post and Nile fell out for the elimination. Dupri stood up for her friend so Jax shoved her down. Dupri hit Jax with a few kicks and the crowd popped but Jax quickly dumped her out.

Becky Lynch eliminated Piper Niven by kicking her off the apron. Niven dragged Lynch under the bottom rope and shoved her into the steel steps. Niven also hit a cannonball before placing Lynch on the announce table.

Jax was near the rope so Niven grabbed her leg and yanked her out of the ring too for some reason. Jax fought off Niven and chokeslammed her onto Lynch. The table didn’t break so Jax hoisted Niven on her shoulders and gave her a Samoan drop onto Lynch on the table — which still didn’t break. They tried their best to kill Becky Lynch but she appeared to survive. (I have no idea why Niven went after Jax other than to set up a spot.)

Chelsea Green was eliminated as every referee checked to see if Lynch was still alive so Green popped back into the ring to continue. They went to break again and funny enough, there were no eliminations.

During the break, Jax powerbombed Lynch through the table which finally did break.

Stark eliminated Green and Baszler eliminated Natalya. Jax eliminated Stark and Baszler moments later.

That left Jax, Morgan and Lynch who crawled back into the ring. Morgan gave Jax a Codebreaker as Lynch simultaneously brought Morgan down with a neckbreaker. Jax hit each woman with Samoan drops.

Jax tried to eliminate Morgan and Lynch at the same time but they fought her off together. They tried a double suplex but Jax suplexed them both instead. Jax set up for Annihilation but Lynch shoved her over the top rope. Jax tried to get back in but Morgan hit a Codebreaker and Lynch hit a dropkick, knocking Jax out of the ring for the elimination.

Morgan and Lynch were the final two. They battled on the apron until Morgan hit a Codebreaker but Lynch managed to stay on the apron. Morgan tried an Oblivion but Lynch countered and hit a Man-handle Slam, knocking Morgan out of the ring. Lynch wins.

The crowd popped and Lynch is now a 7-time champion.

(When they went to the apron, Lynch actually went over the middle rope, not the top rope, so it wouldn’t have mattered if she got knocked out. A referee tried to tell them to get back in the ring and try again but they didn’t.)

Lynch celebrated in the crowd and one kid managed to get a selfie. They let this go a while and fireworks went off as the show ended.

WWE Raw live results: Sami Zayn vs. Chad Gable IC title match

Date: April 15, 2024
Location: Bell Centre in Montréal, QC

Show Recap —

Sami Zayn, Damian Priest, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso were shown arriving throughout the day.

Rhea Ripley relinquishes the Women’s World Championship

Ripley entered with her right arm in a sling and a sour look on her face. Adam Pearce was in the ring too. Ripley announced she would be stuck on the bench for quite a few months after Liv Morgan’s attack last week.

Ripley was pissed because she was told she would have to vacate the world championship. The crowd chanted “Bullsh*t” and Ripley agreed. Ripley said the title meant the most to her which is what made this so painful. She laid the belt down on the mat. The crowd chanted, “Thank you, Mami,” as she looked angrily at the camera.

Ripley blamed this on Morgan’s stupid little revenge tour. Ripley might’ve had respect for Morgan if she attacked her face-to-face but instead, she did it like a coward. Ripley had a warning for whoever held her title when she returned: she was coming back for blood. Ripley said they’d have to lock her up in Montréal jail if she saw Morgan tonight.

Morgan entered with a smile on her face as about six security guards tried stopping her from going to the ring. Ripley wanted them to let her go but security got between them. Morgan left and Ripley headbutted a guard to the ground.

********

The WWE Draft will begin on the April 26th Smackdown and continue on the April 29th Raw.

Judgment Day embraced Ripley in the back. The crowd applauded. Damian Priest said Ripley would come back and make Morgan regret what she did and she’d come back more badass than ever. Ripley thanked them and left.

********

Michael Cole announced an attendance of 15,118. He also spoke about Ivar’s appearance on NXT.

Sheamus defeated Ivar (8:17)

There were chants of “Welcome back” and “Let’s go Sheamus.” Sheamus hit a big White Noise off the middle rope which popped the crowd. He didn’t go for a cover because this led to an early commercial break instead.

Sheamus hit a powerslam and Ten Beats of the Bodhrán but Ivar dropped him with a roundhouse kick and a splash off the top for two. Ivar tried a springboard crossbody but Sheamus hit a knee strike. Sheamus hit another knee and a Brogue Kick for the pinfall win.

The crowd popped for the win. A sweaty Sheamus put his arms around Cole and Pat McAfee in celebration.

********

There was a video package for tonight’s IC title match.

Truth and Miz segment with Triple H

Paul “Triple H” Levesque entered to a big reaction with Pearce already in the ring. This gave Cole another opportunity to talk about the “Triple H Era.” McAfee said Triple H was “terrorizing” (Terra Ryzing) the record books. The ring was carpeted and there were a pair of title belts under a cover. HHH spoke about WrestleMania before Pearce called out the new Raw tag team champions.

R-Truth and Miz entered and we got ourselves another “You deserve it” chant. The crowd chanted for Truth who did the splits. HHH congratulated them and said it was awesome seeing Truth get a WrestleMania moment.

HHH said it was a new era and they needed to represent the tag division appropriately. He announced that they would now be known as the “World Tag Team Champions” (to match the other Raw titles). HHH revealed the new tag title belts which are gold (with a black strap) and resemble the other world titles.

Truth freaked out as if HHH just did a magic trick. There was some silly comedy with Truth thinking HHH was actually Tommaso Ciampa. Miz spoke French and explained to him that the new belts were theirs. HHH handed them belts and left. Pearce was oddly upset that Truth’s antics made HHH leave. Anyway, he announced a triple threat match to determine the next challengers.

This segment felt like it belonged in the previous era.

********

The screen “glitched” as New Day entered and a QR code appeared briefly.

Triple Threat Match: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa defeated The Creed Brothers and Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods (10:30)

New Day wiped out everyone with dives ahead of an early break.

[SECOND HOUR]

Everyone traded moves shortly after a break until Ciampa with Kingston with Project Ciampa for a nearfall. Woods tagged in and hit a tornado DDT. Woods gave Gargano the Honor Roll clothesline and knocked down Brutus Creed with a forearm.

New Day double-teamed Ciampa but Julius Creed broke up the cover and handed out suplexes to Woods, Kingston, Ciampa and Gargano. The Creeds each hit double Northern Lights suplexes for two counts. Julius gave Kingston a superplex but Woods hit Julius with a flying elbow drop. As he went for a cover, DIY hit Woods with Meet in the Middle for the pinfall win.

DIY earned a tag title match with the win.

********

Jackie Redmond attempted to interview Drew McIntyre after showing a replay of CM Punk costing McIntyre his match last week. McIntyre booted the screen and stormed off.

Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell defeated Maxxine Dupri & Ivy Nile (3:35)

Hartwell cheated and is now on the same page as LeRae.

Dupri gave Hartwell a flying crossbody and a fisherman’s suplex for two. Dupri distracted herself by confronting LeRae which allowed Hartwell to drop her and tag in LeRae. Dupri fought back with a DDT.

Dupri tagged out but the referee didn’t see it because Hartwell distracted him. As the ref told Nile to get back on the apron, Hartwell (not the legal person) booted Dupri behind his back. Hartwell dragged LeRae into a cover and they picked up the win. (Hartwell also held back Nile so she couldn’t break up the cover.)

********

There was a Damian Priest video package.

Judgment Day were in the back. Dominik and JD McDonagh were upset but Priest reminded them that they still ran WWE. He urged Dom to teach Andrade a lesson and told McDonagh to have his back.

Finn Bálor thought they should focus on getting the tag titles back but he had to wrestle Jey Uso tonight. Priest told him to focus on tonight and teach Jey the meaning of the word “loss.” Priest would teach Jey the meaning of the word “pain” at Backlash. Priest asked Bálor if he was good with that and Bálor agreed.

********

Chad Gable was shown training with the Creed Brothers in the arena earlier this afternoon. Redmond interviewed him and asked him what it would be like to face Zayn in Montréal.

Gable said he made the Olympic team as a Minnesota guy in Iowa. Not one person in that building wanted him to win but he did and he planned on doing the same thing tonight. He knew exactly how to expose Zayn.

********

Andrade defeated Dominik Mysterio (w/JD McDonagh) (8:40)

This was another match that went to an early break. Andrade fought back after a break but he missed a moonsault. Dom gave him a Canadian Destroyer on the apron which led to a two count. Dom went for a 619 but Andrade dropped him with a back elbow. Andrade knocked McDonagh off the apron and hit Dom with The Message for the pinfall win.

— McDonagh attacked Andrade after the match but Ricochet ran out to make the save.

The crowd was quiet for this. They’ve been mostly quiet for the matches tonight aside from Sheamus’ return.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Jey Uso and asked him about Tama Tonga attacking Jimmy Uso. Jey was earnest and said he told Jimmy to come with him. However, Jey had to focus on Bálor tonight and said he would receive a Yeet-down.

********

Piper Niven & Chelsea Green defeated Kayden Carter & Katana Chance (2:15)

There was a cool spot where Carter had Green on her shoulders and Chance leaped off the rope, jumped off of Green’s back and tried a flying crossbody but Niven caught her and hit a fallaway slam. Niven gave Carter a running crossbody and Green made the cover for the pinfall win.

The crowd was (understandably) quiet for this too.

********

Cody Rhodes is up next.

********

Kelley interviewed Liv Morgan in the back. She was booed. Morgan was confused by the reaction. Everyone in the back was mad at her but she wasn’t the bad guy. She wondered where this sympathy was for her with Ripley injured her shoulder. Morgan called it karma at its finest. Morgan said her revenge tour wasn’t over. It only ended with her as world champion.

[THIRD HOUR]

Cody Rhodes segment

The crowd woke up for Rhodes who received a very big reaction. Rhodes asked the crowd, “de quoi veux-tu parler.” They cheered. He thanked Pearce for allowing him to appear on Raw despite representing Smackdown. He mentioned his next challenger would be LA Knight (who was cheered) and AJ Styles (who was booed).

He thanked Seth Rollins for being his shield at WrestleMania. The crowd cheered and chanted, “Thank you, Seth.”

Rhodes moved on to The Rock. Rhodes said it was news to him how much training Rock did ahead of Mania. He figured Rock had more than one more match left in him. Rhodes said Rock was probably right when he said he would make him bleed again. “But if I’m going to bleed, you’re going to bleed with me.”

Rhodes spoke about the Bloodline. He found it interesting that Roman Reigns was nowhere to be found on Smackdown while supposedly making the orders to Tama Tonga.

Rhodes introduced Jey Uso who also received a big reaction. Rhodes said Jey was the number one contender. Raw was about to be his and nobody deserved it more. Jey helped him finish his story at Mania and he wanted to have Jey’s back tonight because he knew Judgment Day wouldn’t be far away.

Jey appreciated that but told Rhodes he wanted to do it on his own. Jey liked the sound of World Heavyweight Champion Main Event Jey Uso. Rhodes understood Jey wanted to do it on his own and wished him luck.

Rhodes was about to leave but couldn’t do so without saying “Yeet.”

********

Kelley interviewed Nia Jax. Jax didn’t give a damn about Ripley. She didn’t think anyone in the division could stop her from winning the title. She took care of Morgan and Becky Lynch the last time she saw each of them. There were two types of people on the planet: those who fear Nia Jax and those who learn to fear Nia Jax. The title was hers.

********

Jey Uso defeated Finn Bálor (9:12)

Bálor’s music hit but he attacked Jey from behind and put the boots to him. The ref quickly checked on Jey before starting the match.

This match also went to an early commercial break. Only the two women’s matches did not go to an early break, but the total time of those matches is shorter than every men’s match so far.

Jey fought back after the break. Bálor raked his eyes and set up for a dropkick but he ran into a superkick. Bálor avoided an Uso Splash and dropkicked Jey into the corner. Jey avoided a Coup de Grace and hit a spear and Uso Splash for the pinfall win.

— Priest entered the ring and had a staredown with Jey. McDonagh and Dom attacked Jey from behind and Priest was annoyed with them. Bálor got in Priest’s face and said something before joining the attack.

Jey fought them off after superkicking Dom. He chucked McDonagh into Bálor and left through the crowd. (Priest never joined the fight.)

— The camera stayed on Jey as he walked up through the concourse. He slapped hands with fans and left the arena through the front door where he ran into Sami Zayn (who got a big pop).

Zayn stood outside and was looking up at the Bell Centre. Jey asked what he was looking at. Zayn said the first show he ever saw was in this building 25 years ago and now he was returning as champion. Zayn wanted to enter the building the same way he did back then, right through the front door.

The camera followed Zayn as he marched through the concourse. He was all pumped up as the fans cheered him on. Zayn made an awesome entrance through the crowd as they went nuts and sang his songs.

I feel like this was an all-time great entrance on Raw.

********

Next week on Raw:

  • A new Women’s champion is crowned
  • R-Truth & Miz vs. DIY for the tag titles
  • Andrade & Ricochet vs. Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh

********

Bronson Reed confronted Chad Gable in Gorilla before he could enter. Reed warned him that whoever won tonight wouldn’t be champion for long.

Sami Zayn defeated Chad Gable to retain the Intercontinental Championship (17:12)

Zayn had the early upper hand and the two men faced off as they went to break a minute into the match. Gable was in control after the break. He hit a dive to the outside and a diving headbutt in the ring for two. Zayn’s wife Khadijah was shown in the front row.

Gable targeted Zayn’s leg but Zayn fired back with a clothesline. Gable reversed an exploder into a cradle for two. Gable applied an ankle lock but Zayn knocked him outside the ring and followed with a springboard moonsault.

After a break, Gable hit an Angle Slam off the top. Gable followed with consecutive German suplexes but Zayn followed with two German suplexes of his own. Gable switched and hit another German so Zayn did the same. They countered each other over and over until Zayn suplexed Gable right on his head. (This looked bad but Gable continued.)

Zayn hit an exploder in the corner and went for Helluva Kick but Gable picked his leg and applied an ankle lock. Zayn countered out of it and hit a powerbomb. Zayn went for a Sharpshooter but he fell over because his ankle was hurt.

Gable avoided the Helluva Kick again and gave Zayn a German suplex into the middle rope. Gable applied the ankle lock again but Zayn eventually reversed into a cradle for two. Zayn gave Gable another exploder into the buckles and followed with Helluva Kick for the pinfall win.

— Zayn laid the title belt down and Gable was in tears. Zayn helped him to his feet and Gable lifted his arm. Gable left.

Zayn embraced his wife and his family in the front row when Gable suddenly grabbed him and hit a German suplex (outside the ring). Gable tossed Zayn around ringside and over the announce table. He shoved Zayn into the ring post and applied the ankle lock while standing on the ropes. Zayn tapped against the apron as officials tried stopping Gable. Gable held the ankle lock as the show went off the air.

The match and post-match were all really good.

WWE Raw live results: WrestleMania 40 fallout

With WrestleMania 40 over, it’s time for a new story to begin.

WrestleMania week in Philadelphia concludes with Raw taking place from the Wells Fargo Center tonight. The first hour of the show will be airing commercial-free.

Raw also has a new World Heavyweight Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and Tag Team Champions. McIntyre’s obsession with mocking CM Punk cost him his WrestleMania moment.

New Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn dethroned the dominant Gunther at WrestleMania, while The Miz & R-Truth won the Raw Tag Team titles in a ladder match.

One star who was able to retain their title was Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, who defeated Becky Lynch.

Join us for live coverage of what’s sure to be an eventful Raw after WrestleMania starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

– After the new WWE signature open, we went straight to the sold-out Wells Fargo Center and the entrance of WWE’s Chief Content OfficerPaul “Triple H” Levesque, who entered to a loud reaction from the crowd.

Paul Levesque and Cody Rhodes open the show

Levesque started by saying that he wanted to thank the crowd for making something special happen, namely the “Greatest WrestleMania of All Time” this past weekend. He said that he simply wanted to say “thank you”. Levesque continued by saying that on Saturday he had the privilege of welcoming everyone to that new era before introducing the new Undisputed WWE Heavyweight Champion, Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes entered to a huge reaction from the Philadelphia fans, with his new Undisputed WWE Championship in hand. Levesque shook Rhodes’ hand before he raised his arm.

The fans chanted “you deserve it” at Rhodes.

Levesque said that before he left, he wanted to congratulate Rhodes for his accomplishments this past weekend, specifically defeating Roman Reigns to become the new champion. Levesque said that he he had something special for Rhodes from two guys back at the studio, before cueing up a touching video tribute to the new Undisputed WWE Champion. A split-screen reaction showed Rhodes crying tears of joy.

After the video concluded, Levesque and Rhodes embraced in the ring as the fans chanted “you deserve it” once again. Levesque left the ring to let Cody have his moment.

“So, Raw after WrestleMania… Philadelphia, what do you want to talk about?” Rhodes asked. Rhodes turned his attention to ring announcer Samantha Irvin, appreciating her efforts and kindly asking her to once again announce the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

Rhodes continued by saying that two years ago, he laid out his goals and that last night, those dreams became reality. He said that the air in Philadelphia was feeling a bit thin because he and everyone were now on top of the mountain. Rhodes discussed the former champion, the Head of the Table, Roman Reigns. He said that we didn’t have to like Reigns, but he had to acknowledge what he had done in 1,316 as Undisputed WWE Champion.

The fans chanted “Thank You Roman” in appreciation.

Rhodes said that Reigns was the “most important Superstar of this generation”, and that he was the man destined to defeat him. He told everyone to direct their attention to the screen for one of the reasons why he did this for a living, showing a video of his daughter Liberty.

Rhodes talked about that this was a unique predicament because the line was now for him. “Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Cody Rhodes. Once undesirable, become undeniable, and now Undisputed WWE Universal Champion!”

The Rock’s music hit, which signaled the arrival of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who entered the scene with his “People’s Champion” title belt in hand.

With microphone in hand, Rock stared down Rhodes in the ring as the crowd chanted “Undertaker” at him. The crowd continued to booed Rock loudly before he could say a single word.

“Now The Rock says is a lot of things, but ‘sucks’ isn’t one of them,” Rock started off before the crowd started booing him and chanting “asshole” once more.

Rock said that he came out here to deliver flowers to Cody Rhodes and to announce that Philadelphia broke the record for “largest gathering of trailer park trash”. The crowd loudly booed Rock again and chanted “shut the f*ck” up at him.

Rock continued again by saying that he came out here with no fireworks or blood spilled, and that he wanted to acknowledged that Rhodes overcame the odds and defeated Roman Reigns one-two-three and completed a story. He talked about how Mama Rhodes should be proud of what her son did and that Dusty Rhodes up in heaven would be proud of him, too.

Rock talked about how his “People’s Champion” belt meant something before asking if there was any way he could hold Rhodes’ new championship. He said that he never had a chance to hold that championship in Rhodes’ shoulders.

Rhodes said that Rock could hold his title for a moment, as long as he could hold Rock’s People’s Championship title. The two men exchanged their championships Rock held the Undisputed WWE Championship around his shoulder.

“I just got to say, this just kinda feels right,” Rock said before handing Rhodes’ championship back to him.

Rock said that he had to go away for “a little while now”, which prompted the Philadelphia crowd to sing “na na na na, hey goodbye” to him. He said that when he returns, he was coming to get Rhodes. Rock concluded by pointing out how he beat Rhodes on Saturday at WrestleMania. He said that Rhodes’ story with Roman Reigns was “over”, but that Rhodes’ story with him was just beginning.

Rhodes mentioned the Rock’s role as his literal boss as a TKO Board of Directors member, responding by saying that he was the champion of not only WWE, the fans, but also “your” champion (in reference to the Rock).

Rock said he had one thing to give him before he left, handing something to Rhodes, stating to never “break the Final Boss’s heart” again, before he left. Rhodes didn’t reveal what that item was, and looked somber.

Strong opening segment to start off Raw with the new champion Cody Rhodes. Rock’s temporary exit but making things clear that he wanted to face Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship creates an instant story for when Rock returns from filming his movies. The segment took up nearly 45 minutes of Raw’s first hour, which was billed as commercial free.

– We got Earlier Today arrivals for The Judgment Day, Awesome Truth, and Sami Zayn before we went to Michael Cole & Pat McAfee at the commentary desk.

Ilja Dragunov defeated Shinsuke Nakamura

During Dragunov’s entrance, Cole announced that the WWE Draft was returning at the end of the month on April 26th during SmackDown and April 29th during Raw.

Dragunov and Nakamura started off by trading blows before Nakamura had the early advantage. Dragunov responded with a second-rope splash, followed by a series of German suplexes. He got Nakamura with the Constantin Special clothesline before ascending to the top rope.

Dragunov tried for the top rope senton, but Nakamura dodged at the last second. Nakamura trapped Dragunov in the corner and hit him with a sliding German suplex. Early cover attempt, but Dragunov kicked out at two.

Nakamura hit Dragunov with a kick to the back of the head and went for the cover, but the NXT Champion kicked out. He caught Dragunov with a knee, but got hit with a kick to the head. Dragunov flattened Nakamura with the H-Bomb before he finished things off with the Torpedo Moscow headbutt for the win.

This was a nice surprise to see Dragunov on Raw meant to promote the unpredictability of the WWE Draft later this month. This was a great showcase and introduction to Dragunov and his unique in-ring ability and he could very well be a good fit for the main roster.

– A recap of the World Heavyweight Championship matchup and Damien Priest cashing in Money in the Bank on Night Two of WrestleMania XL aired. They showed Drew McIntyre arriving at the arena as we got a graphic promoting a No. 1 Contenders’ Fatal Four-Way match between Ricochet, Jey Uso, McIntyre, and Bronson Reed happening later tonight.

– Judgment Day was shown walking backstage, as we’d hear from them after the events of this past weekend, coming up next on Raw.

**********

– After a shot of outside the Wells Fargo Center, we got a recap of WrestleMania XL, specifically the Tag Team Ladder Match and the Women’s World Heavyweight Championship Match

The Judgment Day speaks

Finn Balor, JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio were already in the ring.

Balor started off by addressing all the “haters” who thought that Rhea Ripley couldn’t defeat Becky Lynch and that Damien Priest couldn’t cash in Money in the Bank by saying that they were all wrong.

Dominik tried to introduce Rhea Ripley, even as the crowd booed him into oblivion. Ripley entered to a great reaction from the Philadelphia crowd, with a smile on her face.

Ripley said that WrestleMania was “almost perfect” and that they’d be dealt with soon, but two important things came out of it: Mami was still on top and that this was a new era for the Judgment Day.

Balor then introduced the new World Heavyweight Champion, Damian Priest. Once Priest entered the ring, he shared a group embrace with the rest of his fellow Judgment Day members.

The fans chanted “you deserve it” at Priest, to which he responded with a simple “you damn right you do.”

Priest said that the “Terror Twins” (he and Ripley) stand before us as world champions and that the whole world needed to follow suit by rising for the Judgment Day, R-Truth snuck up with his new Raw Tag Team Championships and tried to raise them with Priest and Ripley.

Truth said that he thought he was still part of Judgment Day, much to Priest’s protests. He introduced his co-Raw Tag Champion, The Miz, who walked down the ramp.

Miz said that he wanted to be in Judgment Day, as Truth continued to claim he was in the group. He then wanted to introduce Philadelphia to the new Raw Tag Team Champions, Awesome Truth.

Balor asked if he thought Miz was being funny and that it’d be funny if Awesome Truth had the shortest Raw Tag Team Championshp reign, challenging them to a Tag Title match for tonight.

Truth said that he couldn’t accept that challenge because there were three of us, to the confusion of Miz and Balor. Truth challenged Judgment Day to a six-man tag match and declared that he and Miz’s partner was someone we couldn’t see. Judgment Day attacked Miz and Truth and threw them out of the ring, as the commentators were baffled at what they were seeing.

– A promo for the 2024 WWE Draft was shown.

Six-Man Tag Match: Awesome Truth (R-Truth and The Miz) & John Cena defeated The Judgment Day Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, Dominik Mysterio)

Raw returned with the match in progress and Dominik and JD McDonagh working over Truth in the Judgment Day corner. McDonagh continued to punish Truth and held him in a headlock.

Dominik was tagged in and he continued to attack Truth. He missed a splash in the corner, which allowed Truth to tag in Miz, who teed off on Dominik in the corner with kicks and a clothesline. He held Dominik and McDonagh for a double DDT in the middle of the ring. Miz tried for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Dominik escaped.

Balor hit Miz while the referee was distracted by Dominik. Raw went to commercial with Judgment Day taking Miz out at ringside.

Raw returned with Miz doing his best to get to his corner to tag Truth in. Miz created separation by taking out McDonagh, but Dominik tripped up Truth to prevent the tag as he and Balor attacked Truth at ringside.

As McDonagh posed in the ring, John Cena’s music hit, revealed as Truth’s “guy that we couldn’t see. The crowd went wild for Cena’s arrival.

Miz tagged in Truth and he hit his patented shoulder tackles and Protoplex on McDonagh. Miz and Truth hit Protoplexes of their own on Balor and Dominik, as all three of them hit simultaneous Five Knuckle Shuffles, followed by triple Attitude Adjustments on the Judgment Day. The three men did a simultaneous pin for the win.

This was a great surprise fitting for the Raw after WrestleMania and a nice way to pay off R-Truth’s idolizing of John Cena. The fans enjoyed the surprise and that’s what matters.

**********

– The commentators recapped the Andre the Giant Battle Royal on last Friday’s Smackdown before we went backstage to a promo from winner Bronson Reed. He boasted that he was going to show the three other competitors in the No. 1 Contender’s Fatal Four-Way match what “raw dominance” would look like. During Reed’s promo, the screen briefly glitched and showed a strange image.

– A promo for Friday’s SmackDown advertised the blue brand-specific fallout from WrestleMania XL.

**********

– Backstage, Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio were shown walking. Ripley said that Andrade was the problem that needed to be dealt with, not John Cena. Dominik went to see Adam Pearce, which allowed Liv Morgan to jump Ripley by throwing a chair at her. Morgan brutally attacked Ripley, which caused referees and Dominik to separate the two.

Roxanne Perez defeated Indi Hartwell (w/ Candice LeRae)

The new NXT Women’s Champion was revealed to be Hartwell’s opponent prior to the match. Michael Cole talked about the shared history that Perez and Hartwell had in NXT, which started with Hartwell winning the NXT Women’s Championship that Perez had to vacate last year.

Perez slapped Hartwell to start before pouncing on her with a headlock. Hartwell threw her down to break it up. Perez regained the advantage with a dropkick, followed by a series of furious blows, then a Russian leg sweep. She then tried to work over Hartwell’s legs, but got pushed aside.

Hartwell got momentum back by attacking with clotheslines on Hartwell. She tried for a big boot, but Candice LeRae pulled at Perez’s legs, which frustrated Hartwell. As the referee tried to chastise LeRae, Perez took advantage with an eye rake, followed by Pop Rox for the quick victory.

Another short match to establish another NXT standout ahead of the upcoming WWE Draft, also helping further establish Candice LeRae’s heelish behavior costing her friend Indi Hartwell a match. Prior to the match, we got a fantastic continuous camera shot transitioning from Liv Morgan’s attack on Rhea Ripley to the action in the ring, as the great new production format from WWE continues.

– We got a recap of Sami Zayn’s miraculous Intercontinental Championship win at WrestleMania XL before we saw Zayn walking backstage and being congratulated by Jey Uso on his big victory. The commentators mentioned that we’d hear from Zayn up next.

– Roxanne Perez was shown walking backstage, confronted by Natalya, who said she’d see her tomorrow night on NXT.

**********

Sami Zayn speaks

New Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn entered to a very loud reaction from the Philadelphia crowd. Once he got to the ring, Zayn soaked in the crowd singing his theme song.

The crowd chanted “Sami!” and “you deserve it” at Zayn, who responded by saying how much it meant to him. He talked about how he had done some historic things at WrestleMania in the past few years, and that this year, he wanted to top it, acknowledging that he may have done so.

Zayn gave credit to former Intercontinental Champion Gunther and his 666-day reign, calling him the “greatest Intercontinental Champion of our time”, before saying that he beat him. He said that he couldn’t take sole credit for the win, giving that credit to the WWE fans, his wife and child, and Kevin Owens. He said that there was one other guy that he needed to thank before being interrupted by Imperium’s Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser.

Kaiser said that it broke his heart that someone like Zayn was holding the Intercontinental Championship that Gunther spent two years holding. “Congratulations WWE Universe, your new Intercontinental Champion looks like a bum!” said Kaiser.

Kaiser said that on behalf of the General, he and Vinci were here to make this right, as they surrounded Zayn in the ring. Chad Gable showed up to even up the odds for Zayn.

– A teaser for Sheamus’ return was shown, with no specific date mentioned.

Chad Gable & Sami Zayn defeated Imperium (Giovanni Vinci & Ludwig Kaiser)

Gable and Vinci started this match off in the ring, with the Alpha Academy head having control of the match before Vinci took him down with a running crossbody. Vinci tagged in Kaiser, who continued the attack on Gable.

Gable found an opening and tagged in Zayn, who countered Kaiser’s attack and got him with a top rope standing elbow. With Zayn in the Imperium corner, Vinci tagged back in and tried his best to stop Zayn’s momentum, but to no avail. Gable tagged back in as he hit a flying splash on Vinci and Kaiser at ringside.

Back in the ring, Gable connected with a flying crossbody on VInci. While the Imperium duo were working over Zayn, the crowd chanted “we want beachballs”. Raw went to commercial with Vinci and Kaiser in complete control of the match at the moment.

Raw returned from break with Gable fighting off Kaiser and Vinci in the ring. He had Vinci isolated and hit a flying headbutt for the near-fall. He went back up to for a moonsault, but Vinci avoided it. Gable tried to go for the Chaos Theory suplex, but Kaiser tagged in and tried for his and Vinci’s double team move. It connected, but Zayn broke it up.

Gable avoided calamity as he and Zayn hit stereo repeated German suplexes on Kaiser and Vinci. Zayn tagged himself back into the match as he applied the ankle lock on Vinci. Kaiser took out Gable on the apron and broke Zayn’s ankle lock.

Things broke down in the ring with all four men brawling, but it boiled back down to Vinci and Zayn. Vinci got crushed by an exploder suplex as Zayn tagged in Gable. Helluva Kick by Zayn, followed by Gable’s Chaos Theory suplex got the one, two, three.

A fun little tag team match and great showing for the new Intercontinental Championship to continue his partnership with Chad Gable. They have a wonderful chemistry as a tag team and I wouldn’t mind them being a team moving forward.

– Another recap of WrestleMania XL was shown, focusing on the Philadelphia Street Fight and the Jey Uso versus Jimmy Uso match. We then got words backstage from Jey Uso, who had some words for the main event No. 1 Contenders’ Fatal Four Way.

– Elsewhere, Andrade was shown shaking hands with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce, NXT General Manager Ava, and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. They discussed the upcoming WWE Draft before Chelsea Green chimed in. She complained about not being on WrestleMania, as Pearce and Aldis revealed that Green would have a special matchup against a mystery opponent coming up next.

– The commentators talked about WWE’s 17 consecutive televised event sellouts before they pointed out the combined five-event total attendance for WrestleMania weekend.

Jade Cargill defeated Chelsea Green

Jade Cargill was revealed to be Green’s mystery opponent and she entered to a great reception from the crowd.

Green mouthed off to the commentators as the bell rang, angry that she didn’t want the match. She turned to a Cargill big boot, before being lifted up for Jaded. One, two, three.

An incredibly short squash, but still a nice surprise to see Jade Cargill on the Raw After WrestleMania. Her presence is everything and her entrance is

– A WrestleMania 40 recap showed Stephanie McMahon’s return, Bayley versus IYO SKY, and the World Heavyweight Championship events.

– Sami Zayn walked backstage and was met by the Alpha Academy. He said he wanted a moment with Chad Gable. Zayn said that he knew what Gable wanted when he asked for a favor, namely a shot at the Intercontinental Championship. Zayn said that Gable would get his shot next week on Raw in his hometown of Montreal.

Drew McIntyre was first to enter and he took the mic, upset about his five minutes of glory of being the World Heavyweight Championship. He gave respect to Seth Rollins for going out on his Shield last night, as he then turned his ire to Damian Priest and the Money in the Bank contract, calling Priest a “bondage Undertaker” and the briefcase something that’s screwed him over one too many times. McIntyre addressed CM Punk’s actions last night, calling him a “coward” for costing him the World Title. He said that it would be on sight for Punk the next time he saw him.

Jey Uso interrupted McIntyre’s tirade with his entrance as we went to a commercial break.

– Next week on Raw: Andrade versus Dominik Mysterio and Sami Zayn versus Chad Gable for the Intercontinental Championship.

No. 1 Contenders’ Fatal Four Way Match: Jey Uso defeated Drew McIntyre, Ricochet, and Bronson Reed

The match started with McIntyre and Jey fighting while Ricochet and Reed fought in their own battle. With Reed, Jey, and McIntyre outside, the ring, Ricochet took out the three men with a high-risk maneuver off the top rope. Raw went to a commercial break early on at this point.

Raw returned from break with everyone back in the ring and a table set up in the corner. As Jey sent McIntyre outside, Reed flattened him with a running elbow drop. Reed ran at Jey in the corner with a fierce hip charge. He eyed the table in the corner and tried to powerbomb Jey, who briefly fought ou tof it. Spear attempt by Jey was blocked by Reed as he then got sent crashing to the table corner. Raw went to yet another commercial break.

We came back from break with Reed and Ricochet fighting in the ring. They showed clips of action that took place during the commercial break in the picture-in-picture replay. Ricochet was caught by McIntyre and thrown across the ring. Reed responded with a Biel throw of Ricochet as he then stared down McIntyre. The two meaty men exchanged chops as McIntyre lifted Reed for the Michinoku Driver. Jey interrupted the pinfall.

Now all four men were inside the ring, with Ricochet and Jey hitting a superkick on McIntyre, before being joined by Reed for a triple superkick. Brief exchange between Ricochet and Jey ended with Reed clotheslining Ricochet and getting hit by a Jey spear. McIntyre stopped the count as all four men were laying in the ring.

McIntyre tried for a superplex on Jey, who fought him off and trapped McIntyre in a tree of woe position. McIntyre managed to throw Jey aside from a precarious position, as Reed hit a buckle bomb on him.

Reed tried to go to the top rope for the Tsunami, but McIntyre intercepted him. Reed leapt with a senton on McIntyre before clearing the Spanish announcer table. McIntyre hit Reed with the Glasgow Kiss and laid him on the commentary table. Uso took out McIntyre, but got hit with a kick on the button by Ricochet.

Ricochet looked over the prone Reed and hit a springboard 450 that didn’t quite hit the mark. In the ring, Jey and McIntyre were the last two men standing in the ring as they fought.

McIntyre had Jey sized up for the Claymore, but CM Punk appeared from under the ring to grab his leg, which opened him up for Jey’s superkick, followed by the Uso splash. Jey pinned McIntyre to earn a shot at Damian Priest’s World Heavyweight Championship.

**********

A good main event match to cap off an alright Raw after WrestleMania. The big story, of course, was CM Punk’s appearance at the end to screw over Drew McIntyre. Jey winning was the right call to cement him as Priest’s first challenger for the World Title. I found myself enjoying the match, though the strange commercial break placement for it did kind of take me out of things, but the last half of the four-way was entertaining stuff.

Next week’s Raw in Montreal will prove to be interesting, particularly with the Intercontinental Championship situation. The possibility of a Chad Gable heel turn whether he wins or loses is higher and it’ll be something to watch for in his match with Sami next week.

Overall, this year’s Raw after WrestleMania might have not lived up to certain lofty expectations some might have had for the show coming out of an excellent WrestleMania XL, but at the very least, it didn’t feel as meandering and disappointing as last year’s post-WrestleMania 39 Raw was. I was adequately entertained and didn’t feel bored watching the entirety of it.

WWE Raw live results: The Rock & Roman Reigns appear

Date: April 1, 2024
Location: Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York

Show Recap —

For the last few months, they’ve opened every Raw and Smackdown with a shot of the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia hosting WrestleMania 40. Today they showed the workers putting the stage together.

There was a recap video of last week’s closing angle with The Rock and Cody Rhodes and the continuation that was taped after they went off the air.

Michael Cole, while clearly reading off a piece of paper, said The Rock’s attack was one of the most horrible, despicable and disgusting assaults he has ever seen in WWE. Cole said Rhodes was not medically cleared to appear on Raw tonight.

The first hour of Raw is commercial-free and The Rock is kicking things off. (Raw is also starting with the Iowa/LSU game in half-time.)

The Rock and Roman Reigns segment

Rock entered to a huge reaction and “Rocky” chants but it was more of a mixed reaction when the music cut.

Rock said he made ‘that boy’ bleed last week. The crowd loudly chanted “What” as Rock described what he did. He put Cody’s blood all over that weight belt and the only thing that was missing were the tears of Mama Rhodes.

Rock told Rhodes that he would make him bleed and that’s exactly what he did. The Cody crybabies were so upset. Rock could only laugh at the grown adult crybabies who were upset but there was something that gave him pause. Rock played two home videos of young fans crying over the segment. Rock said stuff like that breaks his heart because he was a proud three-time girl-dad.

Rock advised those parents to put their kids in front of the TV right now. Uncle Rock said there were moments in life when a man had to do what a man had to do. There were moments in life when people talked shit when they shouldn’t talk shit. That’s what Rhodes did so Rock had to beat his punk-ass down. The crowd chanted for Rock and he soaked it in.

Rock said wrestling was cool again. The ratings have skyrocketed because of him. The fans tonight set a record for the largest gate in the history of Raw, also because of him.

Rock did his catchphrase before introducing Roman Reigns. (Rock had already spoken for 8-9 minutes and Reigns entered at about 8:18 pm and finally spoke 4 minutes later.)

Reigns entered with Paul Heyman, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. Reigns said it was family above all. The crowd chanted “Yeet” so Reigns responded, “No Yeet.” Reigns threatened to leave if they continued so they did — briefly.

Reigns wanted to thank his cousin because this would be the easiest WrestleMania of his life. They would smash those fools on night one and he would have his way with Rhodes on night two. Rock stood proudly as Reigns put over what he did to Rhodes. Reigns thanked him again for putting his family above all. He set an example that only the Final Boss could set.

Reigns said Rhodes couldn’t fit in his shoes. The Bloodline started making wrestling cool again in 2020 while Rhodes was off somewhere else doing a whole lot of nothing. Reigns claimed Rhodes wanted a piece of the action. The Bloodline allowed him to enjoy it for a while, but they couldn’t have that anymore. This was their mountain and they ran the business.

Seth Rollins interrupted. He entered through the crowd but stayed in the stands. He wasn’t stupid enough to go into the ring and invited the Bloodline into the crowd to fight him and the entire city of Brooklyn. Rollins said they crossed the line last week and he was ready for a fight tonight. Rollins called it the biggest Raw of all time and Brooklyn deserved the biggest main event of all time.

Rollins challenged The Rock. The crowd went nuts but Rollins said Rock didn’t have the balls. Rollins said Reigns might’ve grown a set of balls over the past couple of years and challenged him too. Rollins said it was up to them and even allowed them to pick the stipulation.

Rock told Rollins he beat Rhodes so badly that he had brain damage. Rock told Rollins he wasn’t facing him or Reigns tonight. The crowd booed and chanted “Rocky sucks.” Rock said they always had a plan.

Sikoa grabbed a microphone and accepted Rollins’ challenge. The crowd booed. Rollins gave him credit for having the “biggest bag” in the Bloodline. Rollins accepted. Rock said it was Bloodline rules in their match tonight.

(The opening segment ended at 8:35 pm.)

*********

They aired a clip from MMA Hour today when Becky Lynch busted in on Rhea Ripley’s interview.

Cathy Kelley interviewed Lynch backstage. Lynch said she was here tonight to finish what she started. She would be in the ring if Ripey cared to answer the call.

********

Eight-man tag team match: Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh & Tag Team Champions Finn Bálor & Damian Priest defeated Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano (4:59)

Bálor had a welt on his forehead over his eye and Cole said that was thanks to New Day at a live event.

There was a bit of a scary spot where Gargano hit Dom with a suicide dive but overshot him and went face-first into the mats. He seemed to anticipate it and was probably fine. He got back in moments later and was booted by Priest.

Priest gave Ciampa a Razor’s Edge for the win.

I’m sure they knew the opening segment would go long, but either way, this was a bit of a sprint and set up to give Judgment Day a win before Mania.

********

Backstage, Reigns said Rock had things covered tonight. Reigns said he would leave and Rock was fine with that. Rock asked where he was going and Reigns said he had a speech to write. Heyman looked right into the camera and confirmed that Reigns would be inducting him into the Hall of Fame.

********

There was footage from the Performance Center of Sami Zayn training with Chad Gable. They watched tape on Gunther before Gable put Zayn through extensive training. Just when Zayn thought he was done, Gable put him in a choke and Zayn tapped out. Zayn asked him what the hell that was. They played sombre music as Zayn told Gable he had enough of this.

Gable told Zayn something was holding him back and pestered him until he admitted what was wrong. Zayn admitted he was afraid of letting people down and disappointing his family. Gable gave Zayn encouraging words, enough to make him continue training. Inspiring music played as Zayn continued. At the end, Gable tried a choke again but Zayn countered it. They smiled and shook hands.

(I’m sure some people really like this but I think it’s pretty hokey.)

********

They went to break for the first time at about 8:54 pm.

[SECOND HOUR]

Judgment Day were hanging out in the back. They were all on the same page until Legado Del Fantasma showed up (invited by Dom). Priest pulled Dom aside and said they gave him their blessing to handle Rey Mysterio at Mania but this was too much. Priest told him to cut the crap and left to make a phone call. Ripley wasn’t happy with Dom either. Dom asked Ripley to talk to Priest. Ripley agreed but told Dom they needed to communicate better.

********

Sami Zayn defeated Bronson Reed via disqualification (11:50)

Reed was in control until Zayn hit a sunset flip powerbomb out of the ropes for two (this is how Zayn beat Reed in the gauntlet match a few weeks ago). Reed came back with a Death Valley driver for two and they went to break.

(Iowa is up by about 10 points over LSU with less than 5 minutes left.)

Zayn hit a tornado DDT for two. Zayn couldn’t hit an exploder so Reed responded with a twisting vertical suplex and senton. Reed went to the top but Zayn avoided the Tsunami.

Zayn set up for Helluva Kick but stopped upon seeing Gunther drag Chad Gable onto the stage. Gunther went to the back and Zayn left the ring to check on Gable. Gunther ran back out to attack Zayn. Gunther beat him down and posed with the Intercontinental title belt.

Gunther was about to leave but Zayn fought back to his feet. (Whatever Gunther did to Gable must’ve been at least twice as bad because he remained down this entire time.)

Zayn got to his feet but Gunther knocked him down with the IC title belt.

(They never rang the bell or made an announcement but this match presumably ended via DQ.)

********

Jey Us ran into Lil’ Wayne backstage. Jey invited him to WrestleMania in Philly and he accepted. Lil Wayne intimated that we’d be hearing a new single.

Damage CTRL were shown arriving earlier today.

Dwayne Johnson will induct Lia Maivia into the Hall of Fame.

********

Ivy Nile & Maxxine Dupri defeated Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell (3:37)

LeRae knocked Nile off the top rope behind the referee’s back, a thing that frequently happens in wrestling matches, and Hartwell confronted LeRae about it. Dupri dropkicked Hartwell into LeRae, knocking LeRae off the apron. Dupri rolled up Hartwell for the win. LeRae was displeased.

This isn’t meant as a knock on any of the wrestlers involved, but this match and angle feel completely out of place on these recent Raw shows leading up to Mania.

(Iowa wrapped up their win as this match got going and their game ended shortly after this match did.)

********

Jey told Rollins he had his back tonight. Rollins appreciated it. They walked off together.

********

Natalya said her favourite WrestleMania moment was Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart at WrestleMania 10. She advised any aspiring wrestlers to watch that match.

(Owen, the inventor of the Sharpshooter, won that match, in case you didn’t know.)

*******

There was a Drew McIntyre video package. He delivered a eulogy while at a funeral home standing over a casket. He buried CM Punk before moving on to Seth Rollins. He said Rollins developed his whole personality on Jared Leto’s Joker. McIntyre planned on taking the broken-down workhorse out back and putting him down once and for all.

********

There will be an Andre the Giant battle royal on Smackdown.

Ricochet defeated Ivar (10:05)

Ricochet fought back after a break and hit a beautiful dive. Ivar responded with a sit-out powerbomb for two. Ivar hit a Tour of the Islands and springboard crossbody for two. Ivar tried a corner splash but Ricochet literally caught him and hit a fallaway slam. Ricochet hit a 630 senton for the pinfall win. Ricochet came off great again and has some momentum.

So, Ricochet decisively beats Ivar, while Sami Zayn is having an existential crisis because he can’t beat Bronson Reed.

********

Priest was pissed and wondered why Judgment Day hasn’t handled Ricochet. Bálor and his bruised-up face wondered what kind of name “Ricochet” was. Dom said he had just the man for the job. Andrade showed up right on cue. Dom introduced him to Santos Escobar. They shook hands.

Dom told Andrade that if he took care of Ricochet, they’d make him an official member of the crew. Andrade wondered if they needed him to take care of their business. Dom said they wanted him to.

Ripley said she heard Lynch was on the way to the ring and would meet her there. Priest was annoyed that Legado Del Fantasma were using his darts. (Legado Del Fantasma has been playing darts for an hour.)

********

[THIRD HOUR}

Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley segment

Lynch stormed out and called out Ripley. Adam Pearce entered and said no. The fans booed. He was fine with that because he didn’t want to jeopardize one of the biggest matches on the biggest WrestleMania of all time. Pearce asked her to leave.

Ripley entered. Pearce tried to talk her down but she busted through him and security to get to the ring. Ripley brawled with Lynch and tackled her down. Security got in the way but Lynch fought them off and hit a dive, wiping out Ripley and security. Security kept them apart and this was over quickly. (This entire segment went less than five minutes.)

********

Dakota Kai called Damage CTRL the most dominant woman’s faction ever. At WrestleMania, they would prove to Naomi, Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, and Bayley that they were the future. They were at Raw tonight to see if anyone could prove them wrong.

********

Six-woman tag team match: Dakota Kai & Women’s Tag Team Champions Asuka & Kairi Sane (w/Women’s Champion Iyo Sky) defeated Tegan Nox, Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler (8:57)

The babyface team all hit German suplexes to members of Damage CTRL. I don’t know if they were trying to hide it or not, but you could clearly hear someone shout, “1, 2, 3, 4…” to time the move.

After a break, Stark hit Asuka with a German suplex and hit Sane with a missile dropkick. Nox tagged in and hit a cannonball but Asuka broke up the cover. Everyone traded moves until Kai hit Nox with a running corner kick. Asuka held Nox in place for Sane to hit the Insane Elbow for the pinfall win.

The crowd was quiet for this.

*******

Kelley interviewed Rollins as he walked through the back. She wondered why he would accept a match this close to Mania. Rollins said he only had one gear: petal to the medal. And he always had a Plan B.

Rollins bumped into Drew McIntyre. Rollins told him, “I ain’t dead yet.” As Rollins walked off, McIntyre yelled, “Yet!” which was funny.

********

They announced some ancillary events ahead of Mania, one of which includes CM Punk. Pat McAfee added, “CM Punk’s talking right now. I love it. I’m lovin’ it.”

Bloodline Rules: Seth Rollins vs. Solo Sikoa ended without a finish

They went right to a table spot as Sikoa put Rollins through a table with a middle rope Samoan Drop just five minutes into the match. After a break, Sikoa remained in control but he missed a running hip attack and collided with the steel steps. Rollins smashed the steps into Sikoa’s face. Rollins set up a table in the ring and tried a suplex but Sikoa cut him off. Rollins fought back and hit a sunset flip powerbomb through a table.

Rollins hit a curb stomp but Jimmy Uso attacked Rollins. (It’s Bloodline Rules, so there was no DQ.) Jey entered and took out Jimmy. They thought to the back but Jey was attacked by the Rock.

Rock marched down to the ring. Rock stared down at Rollins as the crowd chanted for Cody. Rollins smiled and, in fact, Rhodes entered.

Rhodes, with a bandage over his eyebrow, attacked The Rock as the crowd cheered. (Rock sold a bunch, as usual.) Rollins assisted Rhodes who set up The Rock for a Rock Bottom on the table but Reigns saved Rock. Rollins attacked Reigns but Reigns chucked him and Rhodes into the ring post.

Reigns dropped Rollins with a Superman punch in the ring. Rock chucked Rhodes into the ring and Reigns leveled him with a spear. Reigns and Rock embraced.

Rock revealed a new blue, white and red “Nightmare” weight belt. He whipped Rhodes and Rollins with it before handing it to Reigns who did the same.

They ripped off Rhodes’ shirt and held him down so Rock could whip him repeatedly with the belt. The crowd chanted “Rocky sucks.”

Reigns and Rock held their respective belts up high as the show ended.
