WWE NXT live results: Raquel Gonzalez vs. Dakota Kai

The rivalry between former tag team partners Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai continues on tonight’s NXT.

Tonight’s grudge match will be the first time Gonzalez and Kai have faced each other since NXT TakeOver 36, where Gonzalez defeated Kai to retain the NXT Women’s Championship.

Gonzalez lost the title to Mandy Rose when Kai made her return at Halloween Havoc last month. Rose got the win after Kai hit Gonzalez in the back with a shovel.

Last week, Gonzalez called out Kai and wanted to fight her then. But Cora Jade attacked Kai on the stage and started brawling with her. After it was broken up, Gonzalez told Jade that she understands why Jade wants a piece of Kai — but Gonzalez gets the first shot at her. Kai had defeated Jade on NXT the previous week. She went to put Jade through a table after the match but then decided not to.

Jacket Time (Kushida & Ikemen Jiro) will team with Odyssey Jones as they face Diamond Mine’s Roderick Strong & The Creed Brothers in six-man tag action tonight. Dexter Lumis will take on Tony D’Angelo, and there will be a poker showdown between Cameron Grimes and Duke Hudson.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

No canned intro tonight aside from the “WWE Together” package. No music videos or nothing, just a live shot from the arena to begin the show. Tony D’Angelo enters the CWC for a grudge match set up last week.

Dexter Lumis reveals one of his drawings as he makes his way to the ring. The artwork is a depiction of D’Angelo sleeping with the fish. Lumis is defending the honor of his kayfabe wife, Indi Hartwell.

Tony D’Angelo defeated Dexter Lumis

D’Angelo cheats his way to a pinfall victory over Lumis. Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes attack Lumis after the match.

D’Angelo baited Lumis into a trap at the start of the match, but D’Angelo got too cocky. Lumis smacked him, around for a bit before D’Angelo cut him off with a simple belly-to-belly. Lumis counters D’Angelo, and Lumis goes for his signature hold. Lumis fires up,and D’Angelo tries to flee. D’Angelo grabs the easel that held Lumis’s panting, and D’Angelo brings it into the ring.

The referee takes the easel from D’Angelo, with the ref briefly turning her back on the action. That allows D’Angelo to cheap shot Lumis with a thumb to the eye. D’Angelo then executes a twisting fisherman’s buster, and D’Angelo scores a pinfall on Lumis.

Williams and Hayes run in the jump Lumis. They beat him down. Williams brought a folding chair into the ring for a Pilmanize spot. Williams put Lumis hand in the chair, and Williams crushed Lumis’ hand in the chair.

Johnny Gargano eventually ran down to run off the heels, but he was too late. Lumis already had his hand Pillmanized by Williams. Indi Hartwell came out during a commercial break to help an injured Lumis.

Gargano from the ring cut a promo calling out Hayes. Gargano says he was made things personal. Gargano at first wanted to prove he was the better wrestler, but now he is angry. Gargano screams that Hayes screwed with Gargano’s family, and Gargano vowed to kick Hayes’ teeth down his throat.

Pete Dunne interrupted Gargano. Dunne tells Gargano that he cannot weasel his way into a title shot. Dunne notes he pinned Hayes last week, but Gargano says that Dunne won because of Gargano’s help. Dunne tells Gargano he does not need his help. The crowd chants Dunne does.

Hayes and Williams reappear perched on a platform looking out over the ring. Hayes his wearing his North American Championship belt. Williams cuts a promo chiding both Dunne and Gargano. Hayes then cuts a promo after Gargano insults them.

Dunne interrupts Hayes’ promo. Hayes proposes a triple threat title match for next week involving the three of them. Looks like the match is on for next Tuesday.

Malcolm Bivens was backstage cutting a promo as Diamond Mine did warm up exercises. Bivens is interrupted by Joe Gacy. Bivens tells Gacy if he wants to join Diamond Mine there is a tryout next week that costs $837.50. No refunds or exchanges. Gacy smirks and takes a business card from Bivens. Like most segments with Gacy, this was weird. Likewise, it made little sense if you think about it too much. Nevertheless, Bivens was great as usual.

A vignette hyped LA Knight.

Jacket Time (Kushida & Ikemen Jiro) & Odyssey Jones defeated Diamond Mine (Creed Brothers and NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong)

Jones pinned Strong to win the match.

Creed Brothers look stiff as a crowbar. Kushida got to shine when he single-handedly cleaned house, but he was cut off during a commercial break. Jito began to run wild during the break, and he was still on fire when the show returns from commercial. Not for long

Diamond Mine begins to work over Jiro, but he tags out to Jones. The Creed Brothers feed into Jones, until Jones is cut off by Strong. Olympic slam by Strong on Jones, but the attempted pin is broken up. Melee in the ring, and Strong is left by himself. Strong is triple teamed as Bivens argues with the ref Jones then splashed Strong with a crossbody block, and Jiones covered Strong for a three count.

Grizzled Young Veterans apparently stole the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship belts. They did so because Zack Gibson wanted to call his grandmother to brag about being the champs. Gibson lied to his grandmother that they were the tag champs. Bryan Alavarez would never do that to Granny.

MSK were still on their journey to fins their shaman. They flew to an undisclosed location.

Xyon Quinn defeated Andre Chase

Quinn pins Chase in a short match. Chase got some offense, but Quinn won easily after delivering a jackhammer. Legado del Fantasma attack Quinn after the match.

Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde jump Quinn after the bell. Quinn was fighting them off when he struck from behind by the returning Santos Escobar. Elektra Lopez tells Quinn that no one tells her no. Quinn is then thrown backwards, and he takes a bump on metal ramp. Lopez looks on approvingly.

Raquel Gonzalez in a backstage interview vows to get revenge on Dakota Kai.

Poker Showdown

Cameron Grimes squares off with Duke Hudson in a poker match. A table is set up in the ring and ring announcer Alicia Taylor explains the basic rules. The game is No Limit Texas Holdem. There were a lot of rules. Too many rules to keep up with if one knows nothing about poker.

Hudson cut a promo saying he was going to make Grime his bitch. Grimes responded by saying Hayes is nervous.

First hand is dealt. Grimes bet $500. Grimes had a bad hand, but he ups the bet to $1000. Hudson ups it by $4000, making the total pot $10,000. Grimes’ hand got worse the more cards that were dealt. Grimes was bluffing, and Hudson was falling for it. Hudson has a 100 percent chance of winning, but Grimes had him second guessing himself.

Grimes called into question the size Hudson’s balls. Hudson got angry. He folds his hand. Grimes wins the hand, and then Hudson demands to see Grimes’ hand. Hudson flew into a rage when he discovers that Grimes was bluffing him.

Hudson attacks Grimes, and Hudson powerbombs Grimes through the poker table. Hudson then gets a toolbox from underneath the ring. Of all the tools he could use that were in it, he picked scissors. Scissors? In a tool box for the ring crew? Okay, sure.

Hudson uses the scissors to cut Grimes beard and hair. Hudson cut off chunks of the beard and Grimes’ long hair. Hudson then flees with a smirk on his face.

Kyle O’Reilly & Von Wagner defeated Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs

Wagner pins Briggs to win the match in decisive fashion. This was basically a showcase for O’Reilly and Wagner. They were mostly dominate, especially Wagner. Big push continues for him, and O’Reilly remains the workhorse of the team.

Lashing Out with Lash Legend features Legend talking about Toxic Attraction. She is interrupted by Grayson Waller. He has gossip so Lash forgave him. Waller speaks some truth, letting us in on a little secret. Waller says this business is no longer about wins or losses. The story of DIY journeyman achieving their boyhood dream is dead. Waller says it isn’t about how many stars you get, it’s is about getting likes and follows. Waller says the game is now his.

Persia Pirotta defeated Gabby Stephens & Jenna Levy in a two-on-one handicap match

Pirotta won a handicap squash match via pinfall. Pirotta did power moves like a double Samoan Drop where she lifts both opponents. Pirotta won with a sit-out F5.

In storyline this was supposed to be a tag team match, but Pirotta told Indi Hartwell to go be with the injured Dexter Lumis. Thus, Pirotta took on two opponents by herself.

Robert Stone was on the stage scouting Pirotta.

Dakota Kai cut a promo acted crazed. She was confronted by Toxic Attraction. They were then joined by Grizzled Young Veterans, who returned the stolen tag title belts.

A video package profiled Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter. They like going to music festivals, and they want to bring the party to NXT.

Breakker face-off with Ciampa

NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa came out to cut a promo on the younger NXT locker room. Because no one can hardly finish a promo these days, Bron Breakker interrupts Ciampa. Breakker confronts Ciampa in the ring, and Breakker cuts a promo on Ciampa.

Breakker vowed to take the NXT title. Ciampa responds by saying he already pinned Breakker in a title match. Ciampa throws to a replay from the finish of their match at Halloween Havoc, which Ciampa won.

Ciampa spoofs the infamous Scott Steiner match promo as he mocks Breakker. Ciampa called Breakker a puppy, and Ciampa left with his title belt.

Announced for next Tuesday on NXT is Carmelo Hayes vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Pete Dunne in a triple threat match for the NXT North American Championship. Also announced for next week is Tommaso Ciampa vs. Grayson Waller in a non-title match on NXT.

USA Olympic Gold Medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock is the audience watching the show.

Raquel Gonzalez defeated Dakota Kai via disqualification

Toxic Attraction runs in to attack Gonzalez for a DQ. Lame finish for a main event that was given so much time, but it at least sets up a War Games match.

Gonzalez was a house of fire at the start. Cat-and-mouse with Gonzalez chasing Kai around the ring. Gonzalez was pummeling Kai, but Kai smiles as if she liked the pain. Gonzalez uses an Argentine backbreaker along with power moves.

Gonzalez posted herself after charging into a corner. The tide turns before a commercial , Kai capitalizing on Gonzalez crashing into the ring post. Kai targets an arm during the commercial break. Gonzalez fights back as the show returns from commercial.

A turnbuckle pad is taken off the bottom rope by Kai. Gonzalez was trying to suplex Kai, but Gonzalez was instead sent crashing into the exposed buckle. Kai retrieved a shovel from underneath the ring in a callback to a previous angle. That backfired on Kai, as Gonzalez took the shovel away from Kai.

Gonzalez was threatening to use the shovel when she is attacked by Toxic Attraction. The heel trio jump Gonzalez. Cora Jade ran in to make a save by hitting people with her skateboard. Jade is then jumped by Toxic Attraction, and the heels lay her out.

Zoey Stark limps out on crutches, and she is followed by Io Shirai. Stark gives Shirai a crutch, and Shirai runs into the ring swinging the crutch. A melee ensues and the babyfaces clear the ring. Shirai gets a microphone and yells “War Games.” So at least this all had a point. Looks like this is leads to War Games match.

Raquel Gonzalez vs. Dakota Kai announced for WWE NXT

Former tag team partners Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai are set to face off for the second time.

WWE has announced that Gonzalez vs. Kai will take place on Tuesday’s episode of NXT. Kai turned against Gonzalez this July, leading to a match between them at NXT TakeOver 36 in August. Gonzalez defeated Kai to retain the NXT Women’s Championship in that match.

At Halloween Havoc last month, Kai returned to NXT and cost Gonzalez the NXT Women’s Championship. Mandy Rose defeated Gonzalez to win the title after Kai hit Gonzalez in the back with a shovel. Kai appeared as a hooded figure and then revealed her identity after the match.

Gonzalez called out Kai on NXT this past Tuesday. But as Kai was on the stage, she was attacked by Cora Jade. Officials then broke up the brawl between Kai and Jade. Gonzalez told Jade that she gets why Jade wants a piece of Kai, but Gonzalez gets to face her first.

Kai had defeated Jade on the previous week’s episode of NXT. Kai got a table out after the match, put it on top of Jade, and was about to hit a double stomp. But Kai then backed off instead of hitting the move.

Here’s the updated lineup for Tuesday’s NXT:

  • Raquel Gonzalez vs. Dakota Kai
  • Dexter Lumis vs. Tony D’Angelo
  • Jacket Time (Kushida & Ikemen Jiro) & Odyssey Jones vs. Diamond Mine (NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong & The Creed Brothers)
  • There will be a poker showdown between Cameron Grimes and Duke Hudson

Mandy Rose wins NXT Women’s title, Dakota Kai returns

With the help of the returning Dakota Kai, Mandy Rose won the NXT Women’s Championship at Halloween Havoc.

Rose won the NXT Women’s title by defeating Raquel Gonzalez in a Trick or Street Fight. Near the end of the match, a hooded figure appeared and hit Gonzalez in the back with a shovel. Rose then gave Gonzalez a knee strike and pinned her to win the NXT Women’s Championship.

The figure was revealed to be Kai when she took off her hood after the match. Kai and Gonzalez were tag team partners until Kai turned against Gonzalez this July. At NXT TakeOver 36 in August, Gonzalez defeated Kai to retain the NXT Women’s Championship.

Kai took part in main roster dark matches in recent months and made an appearance on WWE Main Event, but she didn’t move to the main roster in the WWE Draft.

This is the first title that Rose has held in her career. She made her return to NXT in July and later aligned with Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne, forming a stable called Toxic Attraction. Dolin & Jayne won the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles in a Scareway to Hell ladder match at Halloween Havoc.

The stipulation for Gonzalez and Rose’s NXT Women’s Championship match was determined by Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal. The wheel landed on Chucky’s Choice, with horror movie character Chucky announcing that the match would be a Trick or Street Fight. Chucky was a “special guest” at Halloween Havoc.

After Raquel Gonzalez retained her title against Franky Monet last night, the next challenger for the NXT Women’s Championship appeared to be revealed.

Gonzalez pinned Monet after hitting the Chingona Bomb in last night’s main event. Following the match, Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin, and Jacy Jayne beat down Monet, Jessi Kamea, and Robert Stone on the ramp. Toxic Attraction then surrounded the ring as Gonzalez was in it. She tried to fight them off, but Toxic Attraction’s numbers advantage was too much.

The show ended with Rose holding up the NXT Women’s Championship belt as she posed over Gonzalez.

Earlier in the night, Gonzalez and Rose had a staredown backstage as Rose, Dolin, and Jayne were entering for Toxic Attraction’s NXT Women’s Tag Team title match against Io Shirai & Zoey Stark. Rose said the NXT Women’s Championship looks good on Gonzalez, but it’ll look a lot better on her.

Io Shirai & Zoey Stark defeated Dolin & Jayne to retain the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles. A Cruiserweight Championship match also took place on the show, with Roderick Strong retaining against Grayson Waller.

Women’s title match off Tuesday’s WWE NXT

Update —

Raquel Gonzalez and Franky Monet’s NXT Women’s Championship match is officially no longer being advertised for tonight’s show.

**********

It appears that one of the matches that was scheduled for tonight’s NXT will no longer be taking place.

Fightful Select reported today that Raquel Gonzalez and Franky Monet’s NXT Women’s Championship match that had been announced for tonight’s NXT will no longer be taking place on the show. A reason for the match not happening tonight wasn’t given.

After having a staredown with Gonzalez the previous week, Robert Stone informed Monet last Tuesday that she would be challenging for Gonzalez’s NXT Women’s Championship on tonight’s show. WWE has been building to a Gonzalez vs. Monet title match since Monet confronted Gonzalez while making her NXT debut this April.

NXT’s revamp will begin with tonight’s episode. The show will feature Pete Dunne, Tommaso Ciampa, Kyle O’Reilly, and LA Knight facing off in a fatal four-way match to determine the new NXT Champion. The wedding of Indi Hartwell & Dexter Lumis will also take place on the episode.

Dunne vs. Ciampa vs. O’Reilly vs. Knight was originally announced as a number one contender’s match, but it was changed to being for the vacant NXT Championship when Samoa Joe had to vacate the title due to injury.

Franky Monet to challenge for WWE NXT Women’s title next week

The NXT Women’s Championship will be on the line as the brand’s revamp begins next week.

WWE has announced that NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez will defend her title against Franky Monet on NXT next Tuesday. Monet (the former Taya Valkyrie) first set her sights on the NXT Women’s Championship when she confronted Gonzalez while making her NXT debut this April.

Monet interrupted a backstage interview with Gonzalez on NXT two weeks ago. She promised to take Gonzalez’s shine and her title.

After Gonzalez defeated Jessi Kamea on last week’s show, Gonzalez and Monet had a staredown in the ring. Monet is aligned with Kamea and Robert Stone.

Gonzalez won the NXT Women’s Championship from Io Shirai at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in April. Gonzalez has since had title defenses against Mercedes Martinez, Ember Moon, Xia Li, and Dakota Kai.

NXT’s new logo will officially debut next week as part of the revamp. There will also be a new look for the Capitol Wrestling Center.

Here’s the full list of what’s been announced for next Tuesday’s show:

  • Fatal four-way number one contender’s match to determine the first challenger for Samoa Joe’s NXT Championship: Tommaso Ciampa vs. Kyle O’Reilly vs. LA Knight vs. Pete Dunne
  • NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez defends against Franky Monet
  • The wedding of Indi Hartwell & Dexter Lumis

Mixed tag team match, two segments added to WWE NXT

Update —

Tonight’s NXT will also feature a Prime Target video package building up Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly’s match at TakeOver 36 this Sunday.

Cole and O’Reilly’s match at TakeOver is being called “The Undisputed Finale.” It will be a two-out-of-three falls match, with each fall having a different stipulation. The first fall will be a traditional wrestling match, the second fall will be a street fight, and the third fall will be a steel cage match.

**********

WWE has announced a couple of additions to the lineup for tonight’s episode of NXT.

Indi Hartwell & Dexter Lumis will team together for the first time as they face Jessi Kamea & Robert Stone in a mixed tag team match. There will also be an interview segment where NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai will “issue their last words to one another” before their title match at TakeOver 36 this Sunday.

Lumis lost a Love Her or Lose Her match to Johnny Gargano on NXT two weeks ago, but Lumis and Hartwell still got together after the match. Last week’s NXT featured an angle where they went on their first date.

WWE uploaded a post-show video last week where Kamea, Stone, and Franky Monet watched Hartwell and Lumis’ date. Monet called the date pathetic. Kamea said she would mess up Hartwell if she ever had a shot at her, and Stone claimed that he’d probably be able to take out Lumis in under a minute.

Tonight’s NXT is the go-home show for TakeOver 36. It’s also being billed as the “Title Tuesday” edition of the show, with the NXT Cruiserweight Championship and NXT Tag Team titles both on the line tonight.

Here’s the updated lineup for tonight’s episode:

  • NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida defends against Roderick Strong
  • NXT Tag Team Champions MSK defend against Imperium’s Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner
  • NXT Breakout Tournament semifinal match: Duke Hudson vs. Carmelo Hayes
  • Face-to-face segment with NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Samoa Joe
  • Mixed tag team match: Indi Hartwell & Dexter Lumis vs. Jessi Kamea & Robert Stone
  • Interview with NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai
  • Prime Target: Adam Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly

Women’s title match added to NXT TakeOver 36

Former tag team partners will face off for the NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver 36.

WWE has confirmed that NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez will defend her title against Dakota Kai at NXT TakeOver 36. The show is taking place on Sunday, August 22.

Kai turned against Gonzalez by laying her out with a kick on NXT two weeks ago. On last week’s NXT, a video aired where Kai explained her actions. Kai took credit for putting Gonzalez in the spotlight and called Gonzalez selfish for going after the NXT Women’s Championship when it should have been Kai’s opportunity.

Gonzalez will respond to Kai on this Tuesday’s episode of NXT.

Gonzalez won the NXT Women’s Championship by defeating Io Shirai at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver this April. Gonzalez has since had successful title defenses against Mercedes Martinez, Ember Moon, and Xia Li.

Here’s the updated card for TakeOver 36:

  • NXT Champion Karrion Kross defends against Samoa Joe
  • NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez defends against Dakota Kai
  • NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER defends against Ilja Dragunov

Face-to-face, Gonzalez promo, Dragunov set for WWE NXT

The build to a third match between Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly will continue on next week’s NXT.

WWE has announced that Cole and O’Reilly will take part in a face-to-face segment on NXT next Tuesday. The segment will be mediated by NXT general manager William Regal.

Since the Undisputed Era broke up, Cole and O’Reilly have a 1-1 record against each other. O’Reilly defeated Cole in an unsanctioned match at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver this April, while Cole defeated O’Reilly at NXT Great American Bash last month.

Cole defeated Bronson Reed in the main event of last week’s NXT. After the match, O’Reilly attacked Cole with a steel chair and suplexed him onto the steel steps. It was claimed on NXT tonight that Cole wasn’t currently medically cleared to compete due to the attack.

WWE has also announced that NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez will “break her silence” on next week’s NXT episode. Dakota Kai turned against Gonzalez last week and laid her out with a kick. Tonight, a video aired where Kai explained her actions. Kai took credit for giving Gonzalez her start in NXT and said Gonzalez was selfish for going after the NXT Women’s Championship when it should have been Kai’s opportunity.

Ember Moon vs. Sarray has also been announced for next week’s NXT. Plus, NXT UK’s Ilja Dragunov will appear on the episode. Dragunov is challenging for WALTER’s NXT United Kingdom Championship at NXT TakeOver 36 on Sunday, August 22.

After airing on Syfy for two weeks due to the Olympics, NXT will be back on USA Network next Tuesday. Here’s the full list of what’s been announced for the episode:

  • Face-to-face segment with Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly
  • NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez will break her silence
  • Ember Moon vs. Sarray
  • Ilja Dragunov appears
  • The NXT Breakout Tournament will continue

WWE NXT video highlights: Joe’s return set, Kai attacks Gonzalez

Image: WWE

One title match was confirmed for TakeOver 36 on last night’s NXT, while another was set up as a friendship imploded.

It was announced last night that Samoa Joe will return to the ring at TakeOver 36, challenging for Karrion Kross’ NXT Championship. After weeks of issues with Kross, Joe agreed to a three-step deal with NXT general manager William Regal last night. Joe resigned from his position as NXT management, re-joined the NXT roster, and Kross vs. Joe was made official for TakeOver.

A title match between NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai was also set up for TakeOver 36 last night. Kai turned against Gonzalez on last night’s show, laying her out with a kick following a segment where Gonzalez and Kai addressed the NXT women’s division.

TakeOver 36 is taking place on Sunday, August 22.

Dakota Kai attacks Raquel Gonzalez on WWE NXT

Dakota Kai turned on Raquel Gonzalez on tonight’s episode of NXT.

Gonzalez and Kai came out, with Gonzalez saying that she had defeated everyone. Kai issued a challenge for anyone to come out and challenge Gonzalez for NXT TakeOver 36 next month. When no one came out, Kai told Gonzalez that as long as she had Gonzalez’s back, she would always be champion. As Gonzalez was celebrating, Kai suddenly attacked Gonzalez in the corner with a kick. She then grabbed the NXT Women’s title and stood over Gonzalez, indicating she wanted the next title match.

The two had been associated with one another since February 2020, when Kai defeated Tegan Nox in a street fight thanks to the debuting Gonzalez. The duo went on to become the first-ever NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, however they lost the titles on the same night to Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon.

Gonzalez had most recently defeated Xia Li on the July 20 episode of NXT, successfully retaining the NXT Women’s title.

Samoa Joe and Raquel Gonzalez segments set for WWE NXT

Segments with Samoa Joe and NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez will be airing on tonight’s episode of NXT.

WWE has announced that Joe will “address the NXT Universe” on tonight’s NXT. The segment comes after it was revealed that NXT Champion Karrion Kross had laid out general manager William Regal in last week’s show-closing angle. The attack was Kross sending a message to Joe.

On NXT two weeks ago, Joe was the special guest referee for Kross’ NXT Championship defense against Johnny Gargano. Kross retained his title and then choked out Joe after the match.

Regal told Joe last week that he had to settle his issues with Kross peacefully. Joe promised that last week would be the end of it, but Joe said he couldn’t guarantee that it would be peaceful. Joe waited for Kross to arrive to the building throughout last week’s show.

Gonzalez retained her NXT Women’s Championship against Xia Li last Tuesday. Tonight, Gonzalez will address the NXT women’s division.

WWE has also made a few more announcements for tonight’s show. Hit Row’s Top Dolla & Ashante “Thee” Adonis will face Imperium’s Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner, Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter will take on Franky Monet & Jessi Kamea, and there will be a segment where LA Knight goes golfing with his butler Cameron Grimes. Grimes will be Knight’s caddy for the segment.

Due to a scheduling conflict with the Olympics, tonight’s NXT and next Tuesday’s episode are both airing on Syfy. The episodes were taped at the Capitol Wrestling Center last Wednesday.

Here’s the updated lineup for tonight’s show:

  • Bronson Reed vs. Adam Cole
  • Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher vs. Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan
  • NXT Breakout Tournament first-round match: Carmelo Hayes vs. Josh Briggs
  • Hit Row (Top Dolla & Ashante “Thee” Adonis) vs. Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner)
  • Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter vs. Franky Monet & Jessi Kamea
  • Samoa Joe addresses the NXT Universe
  • NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez addresses the NXT women’s division
  • LA Knight goes golfing with his caddy Cameron Grimes

Xia Li appears to be okay following NXT Women’s title match

Xia Li appears to be okay following her NXT Women’s title match on this week’s NXT.

Fightful Select reported that she “appeared okay” backstage following the bout. Li appeared to be injured towards the end of the match, when Raquel Gonzalez landed on her following a springboard senton splash. The match was then stopped as WWE medical personnel tended to her. After a couple of minutes, the match resumed. Gonzalez quickly went to the finish and pinned Li to retain the title.

Li had challenged for the title the previous week after Dakota Kai defeated Ember Moon in a singles match. Li is part of the Tian Sha stable with Boa and Mei Ying, who were not at ringside for tonight’s match.

The end of tonight’s NXT had Samoa Joe come out immediately after the NXT Women’s title match and called out Karrion Kross, who attacked him on last week’s show. Kross revealed backstage that he had laid out GM William Regal, saying he was the one in charge. Joe exited the ring but Kross was gone by the time Joe reached Regal.

WWE NXT live results: Raquel Gonzalez vs. Xia Li

A Women’s Championship match is set for tonight’s episode of NXT.

In her third title defense since becoming champion, Raquel Gonzalez will put the NXT Women’s Championship on the line against Xia Li. The match was set up when Li confronted Gonzalez after Dakota Kai defeated Ember Moon on last week’s NXT episode.

Samoa Joe will appear tonight and respond to NXT Champion Karrion Kross’ attack from last Tuesday. After Joe was the special guest referee for his NXT Championship defense against Johnny Gargano, Kross choked Joe out with the Kross Jacket.

Kross made his Raw debut last night and lost to Jeff Hardy.

Kushida & Bobby Fish will team against Diamond Mine’s Roderick Strong & Tyler Rust, Kyle O’Reilly will take on Austin Theory, Odyssey Jones will face Andre Chase in an NXT Breakout Tournament first-round match, LA Knight will square off against Drake Maverick, and Franky Monet will be in action.

Plus, Legado del Fantasma will host “Mariachi Musical Madness.” Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show began with a music video recap of the drama between Samoa Joe and NXT Champion Karrion Kross. Yeah, that guy pinned on Raw last night. No mention of that. The less said the better.

Samoa Joe opens the show marching to the ring looking pissed off. Though he wore pants and a t-shirt, Joe was also wearing wrestling boots and wrist tape. He looked ready to fight.

“Tick tock, tick tock,” Joe said. “Look who’s come to smash your clock!”

General Manager William Regal interrupted Joe’s monologue. Regal said this is not what he had in mind when Joe returned to NXT. Joe cannot call out superstars. An angry Joe got in Regal’s face.

Screaming at Regal, Joe said the deal was if he was provoked. Joe screamed to consider himself provoked. Regal argued that Joe was a referee last week when Kross attacked him, not acting in his other official capcity. That is a weak argument to be honest. Joe must have thought so too, he shot it down saying that is semantics. He ain’t wrong.

Joe went on to say Kross is out of control, and Joe is here to get control of Kross. Joe briefly mentioned Kross going to Raw. Like I wrote earlier, the less said the better.

Regal told Joe that Kross was on his way to the building, and Regal ordered Joe settle things peacefully between Joe and Kross. The crowd chanted to “let them fight.” Because of the deep respect Joe had for Regal, Joe promised the issue will end tonight, but Joe could not guarantee things end peacefully. Joe also guaranteed Regal “that tonight somebody is going to sleep.”

Xia Li in a pre-tape promo translated via subtitles vowed to become the first Chinese NXT Women’s Champion. She called the title bout the biggest match of her life. Li warned champion Raquel Gonzalez that Li would do to her what Li did to Mercedes Martinez (which was legit knock her out a few weeks ago).

Bobby Fish & NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida defeated Roderick Strong & Tyler Rust (with Hideki Suzuki & Malcolm Bivens)

Kushida submitted Rust to win the match. Good match. The Diamond Mine cheated to win last week, and this week they were beaten clean in a tag team match. Not the best of debuts.

Fish & Kushida attacked Diamond Mine before the bell. The two babyfaces cleaned house before the show went to a commercial break. The match was joined in progress after the break. Fish was working over Strong as the show came back from break, and the babyfaces continued to maintain an advantage.

Strong was eventually able to cut off Kushida with a backbreaker. Rust soon tagged in to take his turn in working over Kushida. Hot tag to Fish, and he throttles Rust. Strong distracted Fish, allowing Rust to strike from behind. Fish falls out of the ring, and Strong suplexed Fish onto the apron. Fish was prone on the floor selling as the show cut to commercial.

Going through a second commercial break, the match continued with the heels targeting Fish. They worked him over, until Kushida came in off a hot tag. Kushida ran wild, leading to a near fall. Rust stopped the rally by cutting off Kushida. They went on to trade strikes, and Rust struck with a swinging neckbreaker. Fish jumped in to break up a pinning attempt, and Fish went after Strong. They both tumbled to the floor.

Kushdia with a flying elbow off the top rope to target the arm of Rust. Kushda followed up with by punting the arm. Rust tried a counter, but Kushida ended up countering with a flying bodyscissors. Kushida transitioned from that into the Hoverboard Lock, and Rust tapped out.

Million Dollar Champion LA Knight and Cameron Grimes arrived the building a sports car with the top down. Grimes was driving since he is still Knight’s butler. They looked more like odd couple pals here than rivals.

Knight said they could have arrived sooner of Grimes had not listened to the GPS. Grimes was still dressed as a butler, and Knight ordered Grimes to get his bags. Knight had a lot of bags, and Drake Maverick came out of nowhere to offer help. Grimes said he would do it alone, but Maverick insisted he help. Knight basically told Maverick to get lost. Maverick said he wasn’t going anywhere. This sets up a match between Maverick and Knight for later tonight.

NXT TakeOver 36 was announced for August 22, 2021.

A vignette hyped Odyssey Jones ahead of his match in the NXT Breakout Tournament.

Samoa Joe paced around backstage waiting for Karrion Kross.

Franky Monet (with Jessi Kamea) defeated Jacy Jayne

Monet pinned Jayne in a short match that Mandy Rose watched at ringside.

Robert Stone came down to ringside as the match was underway. Monet in the ring dashed a hope spot from Jayne. Monet punished Jayne, and grounded her. Meanwhile, Mandy Rose walked down to ringside and sat on the announce desk to watch the bout.

Monet was distracted by Rose being at ringside, allowing Jayne to make a comeback on Monet. Jayne gets a two count after a neckbreaker. Monet hulked up to stop Jayne in her tracks. Monet then executed a chickenwing facebuster, and she scored a pinfall.

Stone was trying to win over Monet, but she wanted nothing to do with him.

Kyle O’Reilly had beef with Austin Theory, leading to a match tonight when Theory accepted the challenge. Johnny Gargano told Thoery that Theory got himself into this match so he’s on his own tonight.

Wade Barrett sat down for an interview with Bronson Reed. Barrett asked Reed about losing the NXT North American Championship. Reed said he was ready to step up and move forward. Barrett questioned whether facing Adam Cole in a match was wise. Reed replied said Cole was the best, so why not fight the best. Reed and Cole meet in a match next Tuesday on NXT.

Kyle O’Reilly defeated Austin Theory

O’Reilly submitted Theory to win a pretty good match. O’Reilly would show a mean streak before the finish.

They grappled early on, and soon began throwing strikes. Chain wrestling as they go back-and-forth. Theory started to talk trash after grounding O’Reilly. The match went through a commercial break with Thoery working over O’Reilly.

O’Reilly was fighting back when the show returned from the break, but Theory dashed O’Reilly’s hope for the time being. Not for long, as O’Reilly fought back moments later to apply a heel hook. Theory managed to get a rope break.

Theory with a rolling fisherman’s suplex for a two count. Comeback by O’Reilly with a flurry of offense. Theory cut him off to deliver a Blue Thunder Bomb for two and a half. Ushigoroshi by Theory for another near fall.

Theory went to use the ring steps, but O’Reilly snapped kind of like Ken Shamrock used to do during his WWF run. O’Reilly hulked up big time, and he went nuclear on Theory. Kicks, strikes, more kicks, Kawada kicks, and O’Reilly was going to town.

O’Reilly off the rop rope with a bombs away flying kneedrop, and O’Reilly barred the leg. Theory tapped out, but O’Reilly refused to break the hold. The referee had to pry O’Reilly loose.

NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai cut a promo ahead of the title match later on tonight.

Legado del Fantasma Mariachi Madness Musical

Not much of musical, but the promos were great.

Santos Escobar flanked in the ring by Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde for what was supposed to be a musical celebration of marichi. Instead, Escobar told the musicians to leave. The fans weren’t worth it, according to Escobar. He said his stable would not do the “Hit Row thing” where they “vomit a few lines” while embarrassing themselves. Escobar said he was the “true campeón.”

Escobar warned Hit Row that he was coming for the North American Championship, which is currently held by Hit Row’s Isaiah “Swerve” Scott. Hit Row interrupted Escobar’s speech to confront Fantasma. Hit Row took turns cutting promos on Legado del Fantasma.

Scott said he going to make “Santo my bitch.” Escobar cursed in Spanish at Scott, and Escobar vowed to take the title back to the Mexico. Hit Row approached the ring, and Legado del Fantasma also wanted the smoke.

The two stables faced off in the ring. Hit Row dispatached the henchmen as Scott squared off with Escobar. They got into a brawl. There were guitars left in the ring by the musicians that Escobar had dismissed earlier on. Escobar grabbed a guitar, and he went to hit Scott with it. B-Fab made a save to take the guitar from Escobar. B-Fab gave the guitar to Scott. Escobar bailed out of the ring. Raul Mendoza was trapped by himself surrounded by Hit Row. Scott hit him with a guitar.

Looks like a North American title match is coming soon.

The Way was bickering amongst themselves, and Austin Theory had enough. He said their family was falling apart, and he left them to argue.

Samoa Joe was still waiting on Karrion Kross to arrive. Seems like the champ is very late to work. Regal cautioned Joe to keep things peaceful.

Oydessey Jones defeated Andre Chase in a NXT Breakout Tournament first round match

Jones pinned Chase to advance in the Breakout tourney.

Jones got a vignette earlier in the show, and Chase did not. Jones was also very much pushed like he was the star here. Chase did get heat on Jones after posting him, and Chase used a moonsault press for a two count.

Jones mowed down Chase, and Jones used a modified Big Bossman slam to score the pinfall.

Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan cut a promo on Timothy Thatcher & Tommaso Ciampa, challenging them to a tag match next week. By the way, the show is airing on SyFy next Tuesday. They happened to mention that here.

Drake Maverick defeated Million Dollar Champion LA Knight (with Cameron Grimes) in a non-title match

Maverick pinned Knight with a roll-up after Knight was distracted by Grimes.

Knight was preoccupied by his butler during the bout. Knight wanted Grimes throughout the match to hold up the Million Dollar title. Although Knight manhandled Maverick, Knight again shifted his focus to Grimes. Knight was showing Grimes how high Knight wanted the belt held overhead. Maverick with a dropkick sent Knight headfirst into the title belt. Maverick then proceeded to roll up Knight for a three count.

Knight jumped Maverick after the bell, and Knight assaulted Maverick. Grimes got in the ring to make a save. Knight ordered Grimes to hit Maverick. Grimes tried to leave, but Knight stopped him. Knight yelled at Grimes to hit Maverick, and Knight held Maverick for Grimes to punch him. Grimes was very upset with himself for doing so. He glared at Knight in disgust.

Samoa Joe saw Kross’ car drive up to the building. Joe rushed over and forcibly pulled the driver out of the car. It was not Kross. He pulled the okie doke on Joe, and Joe left to go find him.

The announce team offcially announed NXT was moving to SyFy for two weeks beginning next Tuesday.

Matches announded for next week:

  • Adam Cole vs. Bronson Reed
  • Pete Dunne & Oney Lorcan vs. Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher
  • Carmelo Hayes vs. Josh Briggs in a Breakout Tournament first round match

NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez defeated Xia Li to reatin her title

Gonzalez pinned Li clean to retain. Li was without Boa and the ancient women in her corner.

Gonzalez powered out on Li early on. Li was posted like a lawn dart by Gonzalez, and Gonzalez was looking dominate. Li sidestepped a charge, and Gonzalez booted the ring post. Li then several times rammed the leg into the post, and Li sent Gonzalez crashing into the ring steps. The show cut to commercial with Li working over the champ.

Li applied a half crab, targeting the injured leg. Gonzalez dug in and she powered out of the hold. Gonzalez sold her leg but was still able to fight back with power moves. Li with kicks and strikes, and one spin kick netted a two count.

Gonzalez came back with a senton for a near fall. The match paused briefly as the referee and trainers checked on Li. Not sure if Li was indeed injured, if this was a spoofing Li’s last match on NXT against Mercedes Martinez. Either way, they went right to the finish.

Gonzalez with her chokeslam bomb finisher, and she covered Li. One…two…three. The champion retains.

Samoa Joe calls out Karrion Kross

Samos Joe stormed to the ring calling out Karrion Kross. “Come out and play,” Joe yelled on the house mic. “Where oh where is my young champion?”

Joe vowed there would be a reckoning, and Joe wanted to kick Kross’ ass. Kross appeared on the video screen to say this is not the same world (meaning NXT) that Joe remembers. Kross said this was his world now, and Kross sayd he is “the new beginning.” Umm, that is also a New Japan show. Kross went on to say he is “the way of the future.” The Way is Gargano’s stable, and the supposed “future” was beaten in under two minutes on Raw via a roll-up. But I digress.

Kross held up the NXT Championship belt, and he said it means he can go anywhere he wants. He can also hurt anyone he wants. The camera panned down to reveal Regal laid out in the parking lot. Kross left Regal laid out as he drove away in his car. Befoer leaving Kross asked, “Who provoked who?”

Joe ran outside to chase after Kross, but Kross was speeding away. Joe screamed out in anger as the show faded to black.

Women’s title match announced for next week’s WWE NXT

The NXT Women’s Championship will be on the line next week.

WWE has announced that NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez will defend her title against Xia Li on NXT next Tuesday. The match was set up when Li confronted Gonzalez on tonight’s episode.

Gonzalez’s tag team partner Dakota Kai defeated Ember Moon on NXT tonight. After the match, Li came out to the ring and confronted Gonzalez. Li wanted an NXT Women’s Championship match, and Gonzalez accepted Li’s challenge.

Kai had thought Li was coming out to go face-to-face with her, but Li walked past her and challenged Gonzalez.

Gonzalez won the NXT Women’s Championship by defeating Io Shirai at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver this April. She’s since had title defenses against Mercedes Martinez and Moon.

Gonzalez defeated Moon at TakeOver: In Your House last month to retain her title. That same night, Li defeated Martinez. Li and her Tian Sha stablemate Boa faced Martinez & Jake Atlas in a mixed tag team match on NXT two weeks ago. The match ended with Li & Boa winning by referee stoppage when Martinez was legitimately hurt by a kick from Li and appeared to be knocked out.

Diamond Mine’s Roderick Strong & Tyler Rust vs. NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida & Bobby Fish has also been announced for next Tuesday’s NXT. With Strong’s help, Rust defeated Fish on NXT tonight. Kushida then ran out and chased Diamond Mine off after the match.
