Alberto El Patron no longer a suspect in Orlando airport incident

Alberto El Patron is no longer considered a suspect in the domestic violence incident that took place at the Orlando International Airport earlier this month.

As Pro Wrestling Sheet first reported, the Orlando Police Department’s investigation into the incident ended with them finding that only Paige should be charged for domestic battery. That information has been forwarded to the state attorney’s office for review and to decide whether charges will be filed.

Paige had previously claimed that she threw a drink at El Patron and was the one who was held for potential battery charges.

Global Force Wrestling has yet to indicate whether the Orlando PD’s findings mean that El Patron’s suspension will now be lifted. He had been suspended indefinitely until the resolution of the investigation.

WWE’s zero-tolerance policy regarding domestic violence states that Paige would immediately be suspended if she were arrested for such a matter. If she were convicted, she would immediately be terminated.

Paige potentially facing battery charges in Orlando airport incident

Paige could potentially be facing charges stemming from the domestic violence incident with Alberto El Patron that took place at the Orlando International Airport earlier this month.

In a story that was first reported by Pro Wrestling Sheet, detectives at the Orlando Police Department have found that probable cause exists to charge Paige with domestic battery. The information has been forwarded to the state attorney’s office for review and to decide if charges will be filed.

The investigation into El Patron is still ongoing.

After initially claiming that her and El Patron were the ones to get police involved, Paige released a statement on Twitter last week that said she was the one who was held for potential battery charges after throwing a drink at El Patron. Police noted that El Patron was the only suspect listed at that time.

WWE has a zero-tolerance policy regarding domestic violence. The policy states that a performer would immediately be suspended if they’re arrested for such a matter. Upon a conviction, the performer would immediately be terminated. WWE also maintains the right to fine, suspend, or terminate a wrestler if “incontrovertible evidence of such illegal misconduct” is presented to them.

El Patron was suspended by Global Force Wrestling until the resolution of the investigation, though he still holds their Unified World Heavyweight title and isn’t being edited out of episodes of Impact during the suspension.

VIDEO: The Rock attempts to call CM Punk after Raw

With Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at Raw for the filming of scenes for “Fighting with My Family,” there was naturally speculation that Johnson would make a surprise appearance on television.

That didn’t happen, but Johnson did appear twice in front of the live crowd at the Staples Center. He got on the mic before Raw went on the air, with Vince McMahon even leading him off stage at the end of the segment.

Johnson came back after the conclusion of the show and before the filming of a scene where Paige (played by Florence Pugh and with Tessa Blanchard as a stunt double) wins the Divas Championship for the movie based on Paige and her family’s life that Johnson’s production company has partnered with WWE Studios and others on.

The presence of the fictional AJ Lee (played by Thea Trinidad) for the scene inspired the Los Angeles audience to chant for CM Punk, which led to Johnson attempting to call Punk. The two ultimately weren’t able to find a connection, but Punk did tweet a thank you to the crowd after Johnson left a voicemail.

Punk also offered the explanation that it was his dog’s birthday for why he didn’t answer the call.

The Rock’s production company developing a film about WWE’s Paige

Paige’s life story could soon be making its way to the big screen.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced on Facebook on Tuesday that his Seven Bucks Productions company is producing a film based on WWE wrestler Paige (real name Saraya-Jade Bevis) and her family. The movie was inspired by a documentary that aired on Channel 4 in the UK that chronicled Paige and her family’s career in the wrestling business.

Based on the documentary, the film will be titled “Fighting With My Family.”

“Years ago (2012) while shooting Fast & Furious in London, I was up at 3am (too much caffeine) and stumbled upon a documentary on a UK station about a local wrestling family and their daughter’s unlikely journey into the global spotlight,” Johnson wrote.

“That daughter, is current WWE Women’s Superstar, Paige. The family element I saw in the doc, is what grabbed my attention. That no matter how crazy life gets, no matter how dysfunctional our families can sometimes be and especially regardless of how much we fight — we’re always there for each other when it counts. That’s what families do.”

Stephen Merchant will write and direct the film, with Johnson noting that Merchant grasped how gritty and heartfelt the comedy-drama should be. Johnson also noted that they would be partnering with WWE Studios and Film 4 on the project.

The Hollywood Reporter’s story on the film said that Florence Pugh and Jack Lowden have been tapped for starring roles, with Johnson making a cameo as himself in addition to his position as executive producer.

Paige’s wrestling career is currently on hold after she underwent neck surgery last year. She was also suspended by WWE twice for wellness policy violations in 2016.

Figure Four Weekly 12/12/2016: The Paige/Alberto Del Rio relationship isn’t funny anymore

International Wrestling Revolution Group, or IWRG, has been one of Mexico’s top independent promotions for over two decades. Yet aside from the period where it was the Mexican home of Ultimo Dragon’s students when Toryumon was getting off the ground, the promotion rarely got much international attention aside from hardcore lucha fans who wanted to see wrestlers like Dr. Cerebro who weren’t working anywhere else. On Sunday, the IWRG got a whole lot of coverage, but for the wrong reasons.

Alberto El Patron (Jose Alberto Rodriguez) and his fiance, Paige (Saraya-Jade Bevis) were in attendance, sitting in the owner’s’ box to watch his brother, El Hijo del Dos Caras, work in the main event. During the show, something happened when Paige bumped into IWRG wrestler Tortuga Rafy (as in Ninja Turtle Raphael) in a hallway. Alberto says that Rafy touched Paige inappropriately. Rafy says that he made the mistake of calling her “beautiful” as he let her pass him in the hallway, only for it to get back to Del Rio who went after him. Whichever story is true, it turned into a fistfight with Alberto getting the better of the brawl.

Alberto del Rio gets into backstage brawl Sunday night in Mexico

A fight broke out Sunday night backstage at a show at Arena Naucalpan involving Combate Americas figurehead president Alberto Rodriguez (the former Alberto del Rio0 and a wrestler best known as Alan Extreme, who was wrestling as Tortuga Rafy.

Rodriguez and Paige were at the show to see Rodriguez’s brother Guillermo (El Hijo de Dos Caras) wrestle. They went backstage where there was a very narrow passageway and Rodriguez got hot at Extreme, believed to be because he thought he was touching Paige inappropriately.

An argument ensued. According to an eyewitness report, Rodriguez started yelling at Extreme, who blew him off. Rodriguez got hot at that and the much smaller Extreme tried to push him away, leading to punches being thrown. It was said to be very one-sided and spilled out to where fans saw it happening. Extreme was bleeding pretty badly but said this morning on Facebook that he was okay.

Oficial AK-47, one of the wrestlers in charge of the show, Oficial AK-47 made multiple Facebook posts where he threatened legal action and pretty much warned Rodriguez not to come back to the building.

Alberto Del Rio & Paige get engaged in the ring in Puerto Rico

Alberto Rodriguez and girlfriend Saraya Jade-Bevis are in the news one more time as they have just gotten engaged.

It was Bevis, better known as Paige, who popped the question earlier tonight while inside the ring in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Rodriguez, also known as Alberto El Patron, Alberto Del Rio and now El Presidente, was working the WWC Aniversario weekend when in the ring she pulled out a ring and popped the question and he accepted.

Photos of Bevis on her knees with the ring, with tons of people shooting pictures, are going through social media.

Rodriguez’s wife had filed for divorce earlier this year after photos of Rodriguez and Bevis together had reached social media.

Bevis is currently under contract to WWE but it seems like there are issues with that on a regular basis. Right now she is on a 60-day suspension for failing a drug test.

Rodriguez is now the public face of Combate Americas, an MMA organization run by Campbell McLaren, with the idea of being the Hispanic version of Dana White. He is also continuing to wrestle on the independent scene.

Alberto Del Rio seemingly tweets details of Paige’s injury

In a tweet on Saturday afternoon, Alberto Del Rio seemed to provide further details on the neck injury Paige is dealing with.

Del Rio tweeted: “Hmm interesting and they say she’s not hurt…”

He also attached a screenshot of a text message, without indicating who it was from, that had seemingly been sent to Paige about her injury.

The message read: “You have a disc herniation at c6/7 pushing on the exit of the C7 nerve root and causing all your r side upper extremity pain and some of your neck pain. Also, you have a lot of wear and tear for your age.”

Paige tweeted last month that she was given two different surgery options for her neck injury. Dave Meltzer reported on the situation in this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, noting that WWE doctors don’t believe that Paige needs surgery for the injury.

The relationship between Paige and WWE seemed to get more strained over the last week following the announcement of her 60-day suspension for a wellness policy violation. After the suspension was announced, Paige tweeted her frustrations and claimed that rules apply differently depending on your status.

Paige alluded to the violation being caused by something she had a prescription for. That was backed up by members of her family, who claimed that it was caused by painkillers she was taking for her neck injury. Her father also posted on Facebook that he didn’t feel the injury was being dealt with.

That caused WWE to make a rare public statement about a wellness policy violation to the New York Post, where they said that Paige had tested positive for an illegal substance and that they were providing “world-class” care for the injury.

Alberto Del Rio on allegedly being stabbed, working for TNA & ROH

Ahead of being announced as the new president of MMA promotion Combate Americas on Tuesday, Alberto Del Rio (now known as Alberto El Presidente) spoke to TMZ in New York about allegedly being stabbed recently and his future plans in professional wrestling.

Del Rio referred to the stabbing incident as a “street fight” and claimed that it was caused by someone disrespecting his girlfriend Paige. He said that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time while at a friend’s restaurant in San Antonio, TX.

When asked if he called the police, Del Rio said that he didn’t want to talk about it anymore and only put it out there out of respect for Dorian Roldan, the promoter of AAA. He said that the problem with putting something out there on the internet is that people make assumptions and try to tell a different story.

Dave Meltzer wrote in last week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the San Antonio police department has not responded to requests for any records regarding the incident, nor did they confirm that they have records of it.

The alleged incident caused Del Rio to miss AAA’s Heroes Inmortales show earlier this month.

Also in the interview with TMZ, Del Rio commented on what’s next for his career in pro wrestling. He claimed that he will be working dates for Ring of Honor, as well as TNA if they get the money to pay him. Del Rio made similar comments in a separate interview with ESPN.

Video of Del Rio (and Paige) being interviewed by TMZ is available to watch below:

WWE: ‘Paige tested positive for an illegal substance’

WWE is attempting to set the record straight on Paige’s suspension.

In a statement to the New York Post, WWE publicly pushed back against claims Paige and her family had made that she failed a wellness test for prescription painkillers.

“Saraya-Jade Bevis tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug,” WWE said in a statement to The Post. “In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury.”

Almost immediately after her suspension was announced on Monday, Paige spoke out on Twitter. “Same sh*t different day. Kids..Please don’t get prescriptions or doctors notes. Not acceptable.” Paige tweeted. “Rules apply depending on your status.”

Her comments were then followed up on by her family, with her father posting on Facebook that Paige has had a long-term neck injury that he didn’t feel was being dealt with. He claimed that she had been prescribed painkillers that were apparently against the wellness program.

That assertion was backed up Paige’s brother, Zak Bevis, in a post on his Facebook page.

The suspension was the second time in recent months that Paige had been suspended for violating the wellness policy. She was originally suspended for 30 days in August for her first violation.

Paige suspended 60 days for a second WWE wellness policy violation

Paige has once again been suspended by WWE for violating the company’s wellness policy.

WWE’s statement: WWE has suspended Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) for 60 days effective immediately, for her second violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.

The suspension is standard for a second violation of the policy. No indication was given as to what caused it.

Paige addressed the suspension over the course of two tweets shortly after the news broke: “Same sh*t different day. Kids. Please don’t get prescriptions or doctors notes. Not acceptable. Rules apply depending on your status.”

The suspension comes nearly two months after Paige’s first violation of the policy. She was originally suspended on August 17th, the same day as her boyfriend Alberto Del Rio was also suspended for violating the policy. Del Rio has since left the company after being granted a mutual release.

Del Rio echoed Paige’s words when speaking about her suspension to ESPN: “It’s just like she said in her statement this afternoon,” Del Rio said. “It’s just the same sh*t, different day my friend.”

He also addressed rumors that WWE was trying to break the couple up in the WWE Draft: “To be honest, I don’t care what they say or what they try to do,” Del Rio said. “We are together and we are happy. I know a lot of people are not happy but regardless of whatever people say, we can be happy. We can be together. And we are going to stay together because we are happy.”

“If someone is not comfortable or happy about it, we just don’t care. We are going to continue our life. Our families are happy and we’re happy. That’s all that matters.”

Shortly before the original suspension was set to expire, Paige took to Twitter to offer an explanation for the violation and claimed that she was suspended due to a procedural issue after not being home when the test was to be administered.

Paige also claimed that she would return to the ring when her health allowed. She recently tweeted that she would be undergoing neck surgery and had two surgery options she had to decide between.

Luke Harper, Paige, other notable names backstage at Raw

Tonight’s Raw from Memphis, TN, is the go-home show for Clash of Champions. Cesaro vs. Sheamus in match number six of their best-of-seven series will be on the show along with Seth Rollins vs. Rusev, as well as the debut of the cruiserweight division which will likely set up something for Sunday’s PPV.

Among those backstage include Luke Harper, Emma, Paige, TJ Perkins, Brian Kendrick, Jack Gallagher (who was in Toronto over the weekend) and Rich Swann. Emma worked the Raw weekend house shows as a referee. Harper is just about ready to return if not ready right now.

Raw looks to rebound off its lowest non-holiday number since 1996 last week going against football. Tonight’s game is the Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles, which are two of the top five markets in the country. Next week would be the one that Raw will really take it on the chin against football and the first presidential debate unless they do a hot angle coming off Clash of Champions.

Paige: ‘Rumors that I’m leaving the WWE are completely false’

Paige took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to address her recent wellness policy violation, being suspended by WWE, and rumors that she would be leaving the company.

Paige’s statement (with paragraph breaks added) is available below:

“First, I’d like to thank all my fans for their love and support the last few weeks. Let me begin by saying that the rumors that I’m leaving the WWE are completely false! I certainly look forward to returning back to action at some point, once my injury is treated and on a healthy return.

Although I was disappointed by my suspension, I respect the WWE’s Wellness Policy. However, let me be clear that I was not suspended for failing a drug test, it was merely due to a procedural issue. I took the test, I passed it. I arranged said test to happen after I wasn’t at my home when aegis contacted me. So I drove 200 miles to do it. Unfortunately I didn’t do it in time, according to Aegis. Once again, thank you for all the love and support!”

WWE comes to terms with Alberto Del Rio on his release

Ahead of a press conference he has scheduled in Mexico later today, WWE officially announced that they have mutually come to terms with Alberto Del Rio on his release from the company.

The company’s statement: “WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.”

Del Rio tweeted on Friday morning: “My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms…thanks for the opportunities they gave me. Termine mi relación con WWE.”

Dave Meltzer reported on August 30th that Del Rio would not be returning to WWE even after his 30-day suspension for a wellness policy violation was over, and that Del Rio and the company had agreed to terms on his release. Meltzer wrote that Del Rio would be free to work for other promotions internationally imminently and that he would be able to work in the United States in a few weeks.

Both Del Rio and his girlfriend Paige (Saraya-Jade Bevis) were suspended for 30 days on August 17th for violating WWE’s wellness policy. No news has come out on what caused either test failure.

Meltzer has covered Del Rio’s contract situation extensively in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Del Rio was unhappy with his position within the company and had an option to opt out of his contract later this year.
