Paige has spoken out about her upcoming departure from WWE, her health, a return to the ring, and more.
On a recent Twitch stream, Paige said that it was WWE who decided to not renew her contract, which expires on July 7. Despite them not renewing her contract, she is still appreciative of the company.
“I’m appreciative of WWE,” she said. “I really am. They helped me so much they got me a therapist when I had drinking and alcohol issues. They kept me a long time even after my neck surgery, sitting on my ass. I felt like I had so much left to give there as someone who can cut a decent promo and do a managerial role. It is what it is.”
She also clarified that she had no non-compete clause, meaning she is free after July 7.
“If you don’t re-sign, that normally means you don’t have a no-compete” she said.
Paige also reiterated that it was not her choice to leave WWE, saying “WWE doesn’t want to re-sign me. It’s not my decision. I don’t want anyone to think it was my decision to walk away.”
She expressed frustration that WWE took their time in responding to her requests and inquiries about re-signing with the company, but said she understands why WWE ultimately decided to not re-sign her.
“They weren’t using me to my full potential, that’s for sure” she said. “It’s fair. Why do they [need to] employ me to not do very much for them. There is opportunities I could have done. I think they just want to focus on people who are wrestling.”
When asked about her health, Paige said she was the most healthy she had been in her entire career, and felt like she could compete in the ring again.
“I feel like I can compete again, yeah. 1000%” she said.
When asked about possibly joining another wrestling promotion, Paige said “Sure, if the money is right”.
On Friday, Paige announced on social media that July 7th would be her final day with the WWE, thanking the company. In regards to an in ring return, she wrote on Twitter that “That day will most certianly come again! Wherever the return [may be].”

Paige is leaving WWE and looks to have her sights set on an in-ring return.
In a statement posted to her Twitter account on Friday, the 29-year-old Paige (real name Saraya-Jade Bevis) announced that she’ll be departing WWE on July 7. Paige thanked WWE and wrote that she appreciates the opportunities she was given while with the company.
Paige, who hasn’t wrestled since 2017, noted in her statement that the day “will most certainly come” when she’s in the ring again. It was revealed in January 2018 that WWE had medically disqualified Paige from in-ring competition due to issues with her neck.
Paige’s full statement is available below:
Paige here!
July 7th will be the last day with WWE. I’m so thankful and I appreciate the opportunities that the company has given me. I will always be appreciative of the company that took in an 18 year old British pale emo girl that didn’t look like your average diva, giving me the chance of a lifetime and making me feel like a superstar. I know after my neck injury taking me out of in ring status, it was pretty hard to keep me around for as long as you did and for that I’m thankful too.
Thank you to the WWE Universe. You guys are the most passionate group of fans I’ve ever seen. Hope you continue to stay on this journey with me.
I think the toughest part weirdly enough is having to let the Paige name go! But Saraya is helluva name. Kudos to my mum for that one.
FYI I’m not saying I’ll never be in the ring. That day will most certainly come again! Wherever the return maybe.
Thank you WWE, Saraya
Paige is a two-time WWE Divas Champion and a one-time NXT Women’s Champion. After being medically disqualified from competing in the ring, she spent time in an on-screen role as the general manager of SmackDown.
The movie “Fighting with My Family,” based on a documentary about Paige and her family, was released in 2019. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions and WWE were involved in the making of the film.

Cena accepted the challenge because he’s going to get rid of Wyatt
Bray Wyatt interrupted and made his way to the ring. He didn’t come out as The Fiend but just regular Bray Wyatt. He mocked Cena and said he wonders what it would be like to be Cena for one day. Wyatt’s not sick, Cena is the one that’s sick. He noted Cena doesn’t care about the future. He only cares about himself and being in the spotlight.
Wyatt thinks about his loss to Cena six years ago all the time. He said the voices in his head wouldn’t stop, so he started listening to them. The voices took his broken world and turned it into the funhouse. They went face to face, and Wyatt asked Cena to let him in. The Fiend then flashed across the screen.
This was a very different type of SmackDown tonight and an interesting show. Having no fans in attendance hurt the show, but at other times, it helped, such as with The Miz and Morrison and the closing segment.
Next Week: Rob Gronkowski appears on SmackDown and addresses the rumors about his future. Plus, Roman Reigns and Goldberg meet face-to-face for their WrestleMania 36 contract signing.
During his appearance on WWE Backstage last Tuesday, Jeff announced that he’s been cleared to return to the ring. “I’m officially cleared, so I’ve been at SmackDown on FOX the last two weeks in a row,” Jeff said. “I’m just waiting for the right creative spot to jump back in the mix.”
Jeff underwent surgery to repair his right knee last May.
Jeff revealed on WWE Backstage that he entered in-patient rehab for the first time in his life after his driving while impaired arrest in October. He said it was one of the best things he ever could have done for himself.
The advertisement also announced that Paige will confront SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley on SmackDown this week. WWE.com wrote that “Bayley has shared plenty of opinions as the self-proclaimed model for the Women’s Division. After Lacey Evans & Naomi’s recent resistance fell unsuccessful, Paige will now step up to try and set the SmackDown Women’s Champion straight.”
Paul “Triple H” Levesque has issued an apology for a “terrible joke” he made about Paige (Saraya Bevis) last week.
Levesque posted a tweet today saying that he’s apologized to Paige. He also wrote that he’s sorry if the joke offended anyone: “I’ve reached out to @RealPaigeWWE to apologize. I made a terrible joke and I’m sorry if it offended her or anyone else.”
While doing media for NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II, Levesque was asked about speculation of Edge (Adam Copeland) and Paige potentially being able to return to the ring. During his answer, Levesque said “more importantly than that, though, I’d like to see them live long healthy lives. You know, Edge has kids. Paige — maybe — she probably has some she doesn’t know of.”
In response to the video of Levesque’s joke, Paige tweeted on Monday: “Even my boss jokes about me.. no wonder you guys still do it too.”
Paige was part of WWE’s media day in the United Kingdom today for their move to BT Sport. She told Sportskeeda that Levesque had reached out to her and they were going to be talking about some things.
“Obviously I was a little bit perplexed, a little bit taken back, because he’s someone that I truly look up to and he’s always been very respectful, so I just feel like he kinda got caught up, maybe, in a joke, but I just don’t think it was appropriate to joke about,” Paige said. “I don’t know, it’s just something that I’m not gonna continually keep talking about, because I feel like people on the internet have done a pretty good job of that.”
Looking back at the year WWE has had, you get a better sense of how much talent is in the company.
Main roster television and storylines have their problems, but narrowing the list of my favorite WWE matches of the year down to 10 was still incredibly difficult. The company produces so much product and has so many great wrestlers spread across Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and NXT UK. NXT was the standout in what was a transformative year as it moved to airing live on the USA Network, but all four brands were still represented on my list.
Here are my picks for WWE’s 10 best matches of 2019:

Triple H faced backlash yesterday after making a joke directed at Paige. When answering a question about her or Edge making a possible return to the ring, Triple H replied that he hoped they would be able to be cleared to return, saying “Edge has kids. Paige, she probably has some she doesn’t know of”. Paige wasn’t happy with the line, writing on Twitter, “Even my boss jokes about me.. no wonder you guys still do it too.”
John Cena is scheduled to be on the Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday.

A sit-down interview with Tessa Blanchard is advertised for tonight’s Impact. Blanchard’s post-show celebration from after her World Championship win at Hard to Kill will also air on the episode.
Ryan Bader on Instagram noted he is looking to fight and defend the Bellator Light Heavyweight title in April.
Here are the first two episodes of UFC 246 Embedded.
Donald Cerrone talked to ESPN about his upcoming fight against Conor McGregor.
Anthony Pettis told Ariel Helwani that he is looking to sue USADA as he cut his thumb on one of their bottles during a drug test shortly before his fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 241. He said that the cut was so deep that it had to be glued together.
During this week’s episode of WWE Backstage, it was confirmed that two WWE personalities have signed new deals with the company.
The Miz and Paige have both re-signed with WWE. It was noted that both of their new contracts are multi-year deals.
This is the second straight year that Miz has signed a new WWE deal. He previously signed a four-year contract with the company, with news of that deal being confirmed in February 2018.
Miz tweeted about the news: “BREAKING NEWS dropped by @ryansatin on @FS1 #WWEBackstage: I just signed a new multi year deal w/ @wwe. @wwe has been my home for 15 years & it’ll continue to be for years to come. I promise to work harder than ever to continue to give you MUST SEE TV. IT WILL BE AWESOME!”
Paige is part of the panel for WWE Backstage. Due to career-ending neck injury, she announced her retirement from in-ring competition in April 2018. She’s been used as an on-screen character since then, most recently managing Asuka & Kairi Sane until they turned against her as part of their heel turn.
WWE is hyping that Paige is bringing a tag team to SmackDown next week.
Paige made an appearance on tonight’s SmackDown and was shown watching WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Peyton Royce & Billie Kay’s match against “The Brooklyn Belles.” After The IIconics retained, Paige was interviewed by Kayla Braxton and said she’s bringing an impressive tag team to SmackDown next week.
Royce & Kay won the Women’s Tag Team titles in a fatal four-way match against Sasha Banks & Bayley, Beth Phoenix & Natalya, and Nia Jax & Tamina at WrestleMania 35. They cut a promo on tonight’s SmackDown and disingenuously claimed that they were going to be fighting champions. Royce & Kay introduced The Brooklyn Belles, calling them the best tag team they could find in Brooklyn and alleging that they had a 45-0 record.
The Brooklyn Belles were played by independent wrestlers Kris Statlander & Karissa Rivera.
Next Tuesday’s SmackDown is night two of this year’s Superstar Shakeup. It will begin on next week’s Raw, with Raw and SmackDown both taking place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The next edition of WWE Chronicle will focus on Paige and the end of her in-ring career.
WWE has announced that a Chronicle episode on Paige will premiere on the WWE Network after NXT TakeOver: Phoenix this Saturday. The episode is listed in a half-hour time slot.
Here’s WWE’s description of the episode: “Paige was born to be a WWE Superstar. She was the first NXT Women’s Champion and captured the Divas Championship in her WWE debut. In June 2016, though, the raven-haired Superstar was sidelined for 17 months. Follow the two-time Divas Champion from her unexpected November 2017 return to the heartbreaking revelation that she can never compete again.”
Paige announced her retirement from in-ring competition in April 2018 due to career-ending neck injuries. She became the on-screen general manager of SmackDown until the McMahons and Triple H took over as the authority figures of both brands in December. It was noted that Paige would have a new role, but that has yet to be revealed.
“Fighting with my Family,” the movie on Paige’s life that was inspired by a documentary on her family, will be released in theaters nationwide on Friday, February 22.
Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, Dean Ambrose, and Becky Lynch have been featured in past Chronicle episodes.
Paige is officially no longer the on-screen general manager of SmackDown.
After it was announced last night that Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Shane McMahon were “taking back” Raw in storyline and would be in charge of SmackDown as well, tonight’s SmackDown opened with a segment where Shane addressed the roster backstage. He announced that Paige was no longer the GM of SmackDown and thanked her for her contributions.
Shane said that Paige isn’t going anywhere and it’s just her role that has changed. Further details on her new role have yet to be revealed.
Vince also appeared on tonight’s SmackDown as an authority figure, making a SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Asuka and Naomi for the episode and taking part in a backstage segment with The Miz.
Paige had been SmackDown GM since the Tuesday after this year’s WrestleMania. She became GM after announcing her retirement from in-ring competition due to career-ending neck injuries.
