After being postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NXT UK TakeOver: Dublin has now been canceled.
WWE issued a statement on Friday confirming that NXT UK TakeOver: Dublin has been canceled. The event was first listed as canceled by Ticketmaster and 3Arena Dublin earlier on Friday. For those who had purchased tickets, refunds will be available from the point of purchase.
NXT UK TakeOver: Dublin had most recently been scheduled to take place at 3Arena Dublin on Sunday, June 20. Prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was originally set to be held in April 2020. It was first postponed to October 2020 and then June 2021 before being canceled.
Following a hiatus due to the pandemic, NXT UK returned with new episodes last September. Episodes are taped at BT Sport Studios in London, England with no fans in attendance.
NXT UK has yet to hold a TakeOver event since returning from hiatus. Earlier this month, a special episode titled “NXT UK: Prelude” aired during WrestleMania 37 week. It was headlined by WALTER defeating Rampage Brown to retain the NXT United Kingdom Championship.
The show had been set to take place at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland on Sunday, April 26. The new date for it is Sunday, October 25.
“NXT UK is heading to Dublin for the first time ever and fans are set to experience an epic event at 3Arena on the rescheduled date of Sunday, 25 October 2020,” 3Arena announced.” Fans around the world can see the show when it takes over the award-winning WWE Network.”
WWE had yet to officially announce any of the matches for UK TakeOver: Dublin. The final television tapings building to the special were held in Coventry, England on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7.
3Arena had issued a statement regarding events that were scheduled to take place at the venue:

Kickoff Show:
This was just recaps of all the matches scheduled for the show with no angles or promos beyond wha has been seen on the Prime Target Special or NXT UK weekly television. So it looks like no surprise matches either as they did on the first two UK TakeOvers.
Andy Shepherd, Tom Phillips and NXT General Manager William Regal are the hosts of the pre-show. Regal talked about what Blackpool means to him and said he had goosebumps. They ran down all the matches scheduled for tonight and then showed Piper Niven, Toni Storm and Kay Lee Ray arriving at the arena earlier today. A video recapping how the three-way women’s title match came to be then aired. The hosts discussed the match, talking about how Toni challenged Rhea Ripley for Worlds Collide and questioning whether she had her mind truly set on the match tonight and how Piper Niven may be most focussed.
Trent Seven and Eddie Dennis then were shown arriving at the arena earlier today. Regal reminisced about his own career and said when he looks at Eddie Dennis, he looks into the devil’s eyes and this was what people had been saying about him in the past. Next up was a closer look at the match between Tyler Bate and Jordan Devlin and the panel stated that this might be the match of the night.
Another video aired on the four-way tag team ladder match between champions Gallus, the team they beat for the titles, Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster, initial champs The Grizzled Young Veterans and Imperium, consisting of Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner. Regal talked about how sometimes as a GM you need to make brutal matches like this to end things and the one WWE ladder match he ever was in certainly was career shortening.
Imperium where shown entering the building. A video then aired of WALTER talking about being the WWE United Kingdom champion today and forever. They then ran down the story behind tonight’s main event. Tom Philips then talked about how Joe Coffey will bring a level of physicality to the match that WALTER might not have experienced yet. Regal also said that Coffey may lay a beating on the champion.
NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II
The show opened up with the great video package that aired at the end of Prime Target, running down all matches.
Tom Phillips and Nigel McGuinness are our announcers for tonight’s TakeOver as they welcomes us at ringside.
1. Eddie Dennis pinned Trent Seven after hitting the Neck Stop Driver (8:16)
This was a fun opener and after some brief offense by Seven mostly was the Eddie Dennis comeback show. Dennis looked impressive here and won in just over eight minutes after first throwing Seven out of the ring with a Razor’s Edge and then hitting his finish. It looks like Dennis will move further up the card in the months to come.
Seven wore a nice, crimson coat with the Moustache Mountain logo on the back, while Dennis entered wearing a black and green dragon mask, since he is the Dragon of Wales.
Dennis tried attacking Seven at the bell, but got immediately caught in a one-armed powerbombed for a two-count, followed by a DDT and a clothesline in the corner. Seven went for a superplex, but Dennis ducked out and hit a Razor’s Edge out of the corner. Dennis took over at that point and beat down on Trent. He hit a vertical suplex for a two-count of his own, while the fans were solidly behind Trent Seven, who came back with a few chops and a snapdragon suplex, suicide dive and another suplex at ringside. Trent went for a reverse somersault senton from the top, but Dennis moved. Dennis hit a version of the End of Days for a near-fall.
Seven escaped another Razor’s Edge but got decked with a forearm. he still came back with an Emerald Frosien and went for the Birminghammer, but Dennis reached the ropes and managed to pull himself down. Dennis went to remove the turnbuckle, but first got caught by the ref and then a forearm from Seven, but the turnbuckle still came off without anybody but the announcers noticing. Seven then hit a superplex from the top. The ref then noticed the exposed turnbuckle, but just kicked it to ringside instead of putting it back on as Dennis pulled Dennis into the exposed steel. He went to hit another Razor#s Edge into the turnbuckle but the ref stepped between them. Dennis then nonchalantly tossed Seven over the top to the outside onto a plant.
Back inside, Dennis went for a pin, but Seven managed to somehow kick out. Dennis then hit the Neck Stop Driver for the victory.

2. NXT UK Women’s Championship: Kay Lee Ray (c) retained over Toni Storm and Piper Niven, when she pinned Niven after capitalizing on a frog splash by Toni Storm (13:10)
This was a great match that was non-stop action. it wasn’t so much your typical WWE three-way where mostly two person wrestle while one is out of action, but mostly everybody vs. everybody. Lots of wild spots and hard hitting action. KLR retained the title when Toni hit a frog splash on Niven and KLR super kicked her and stole the pin.
A video recapped the history between these three women.
Toni came out first in a post-apocalyptic rock chick from the future outfit that was all steel spikes and black leather. Niven was out next, followed by the champion, Kay Lee Ray.
Storm immediately went after KLR, but Niven pulled her off as Kay Lee escaped to ringside. Niven then quickly hit a dive through the ropes, taking out KLR, then flattened both women with rolling cannonball sentons against the barrier and ring steps respectively. KLR recovered and pulled Niven off the apron. As Toni got to work on KLR, Niven came back in and hit a back senton on both women.
All three women fought each other until Toni looked to hit Storm Zero on KLR, but Niven flew in with a flying cross body, wiping out Toni. KLR then took out Niven, as Toni came back with a release German suplex on KLR. KLR recovered and hit a DDT for a near-fall, which was broken up by Niven.
KLR looked to go for the Gory Bomb on Niven but couldn’t get her up. KLR then escaped Niven’s Michinoku Driver, while Toni failed to get Niven up for a German. All three women then once more took each other out, with Niven finally hitting a backdrop driver on KLR. Toni and Piper traded shots. but KLR slammed into them.
KLR got a steel chair from under the ring and used it to choke both Toni and Piper. She looked to Pillmanize Toni’s neck, but Niven managed to put a stop to that plan. Toni then got the chair, but hesitated using it on Niven, who screamed at her to hit her. As KLR looked on with a smile, Toni dropped the chair and nailed her with a kick. Toni and Piper then briefly worked together (or at least did not attack each other), as Toni first hit a tope suicida on KLR, followed by a cannonball by Niven off the apron. As Toni and Niven recovered at ringside, KLR hit a top rope somersault dive on both of them.
Toni looked for a superplex on Toni from the top, but Niven launched her into a sit-down power bomb before KLR hit another senton on Toni. Niven then hit a big power bomb on KLR for a close near-fall. Niven looked to hit another Michinoku Driver, but KLR managed to escape and actually get Niven up for a Gory Bomb. Toni slid back into the ring and slammed into the referee to break up the pin. Niven hit a Canadian Destroyer on KLR, but Toni slid in and hit Storm zero on KLR. Niven managed to break up Toni’s pin a the very last split-second.
Storm then hit a Storm Zero on KLR onto the back of Niven. Toni went for another one on Niven, but couldn’t get her up, settling for a sort of Pedigree instead. Toni hit a frog splash off the top on Niven, but KLR super kicked her and stole the pin for the victory.
— Imperium were shown warming up, with Barthel and Aichner slamming into each other
3. Tyler Bate pinned Jordan Devlin after a top-rope corkscrew splash (22:22)
This was an incredible match between two of the best wrestlers in Europe, if not the world. Both should be much bigger superstars than they are on this level. They hit each other with everything but the kitchen sink and put on a technical masterpiece with everything looking crisp and stiff. Bate eventually won with a corkscrew splash from the top after a Tyler Driver ’97 wasn’t enough to put Devlin away. An early MOTY candidate in my book.
A video recapped the history between these two, starting with the original UK Tournament three years ago, where Bate eliminated Devlin. The difference between the Tyler Bate from early 2017 and today is mind-blowing (and the difference between that Bate and the one late 2014 when I first saw him in wXw was equally mind-blowing).
The crowd was going crazy for Tyler, singing his name and dancing in accordance. They started with an intense lock up with Devlin shoving Bate on a corner break. Devlin worked Bate’s arm that Tyler could not escape from until finally flipping out of it and turning the tables on Devlin. Devlin quickly looked to hit Devlinside, but Bate had him well-scouted and escaped via side-headlock takeover.
Bate hit a monkey flip and back body drop, then impressively military press slammed Devlin before sending him to the outside with a beautiful dropkick. as he went for a dive, Devlin jumped on the apron and hit an uranage from the apron on Bate in the ring, then hit a rope-assisted moonsault in a creative twist on his usual one-two combo with those moves.
Devlin hit an elevated belly-to-back suplex for a two-count, then choked Bate on the middle rope using his legs. Devlin hit a butterfly suplex and mockingly twirled his moustache. He grabbed bate’s arm and hit a number of Kawada kicks, then tried going for Devlinside, but Bate used his power to prevent the move, instead launching Devlin to ringside and launched himself over the top with a dive.
Bate went for a cross body, but Devlin caught him in mid-air with a Codebreaker, then hit a hard forearm to the back off a front whip to the ropes. Devlin hit a beautiful surfboard stretch and locked the chin for extra pressure. bate managed to hit a flash roll-up off another whip, before both men crashed into each other with simultaneous running cross bodies. Bate stopped Devlin on a corner charge, then hit a flying uppercut off the second rope, followed by an exploder and a standing shooting star for a near-fall.
After another brief scuffle, Bate got Devlin on is shoulders for a long airplane spin. Bate followed with a bran buster for another close near-fall. Bate went for Tyler Driver ’97, but Devlin turned it into a rana and hooked the legs, but Bate turned the cover around for another near-fall. Devlin then hit a vicious suplex for another near-fall.
Bate threw Devlin over the top, but Devlin rebounded with a rope-assisted cutter, then hit another one, this time from the ring onto the apron, as both men ended up dazed on the outside. At the count of eight, both men looked at each other and Devlin hit a head kick on bate, then slid back in the ring. bate dramatically followed him at about 9.9. Back in the ring, they traded stiff forearms that would have made KENTA and Goto cringe. They followed by trading fisticuffs, before Bate finally hit a rolling kappa kick.
Bate went for Tyler Driver ’97, Devlin escaped, went for Devlinside, but Bate flipped out. He went for his rebound lariat, but Devlin turned it into a Spanish Fly as both men were down. That sequence was tremendous!
Devlin went to the top for what looked like a moonsault, but Devlin shoved him off the ropes and looked to go for a superplex. Devlin grabbed his throat and hit a top-rope Avalanche Spanish Fly, then followed with Devlinside, but Bate kicked out at 2.9 as the crowd exploded in a frenzy. Devlin hit more kicks and stomps, then stepped in Bate’s fingers. he grabbed Bate by the beard, then hit a hard right . Devlin went for a Tyler Driver ’97 of his own, but Bate flipped out of the move and tried for one of his own, but Devlin flipped him onto the apron. bate came back with head-butt, then hit a spring-board DDT, followed by another Tyler Driver ’97, but this time it was Devlin’s turn to kick out at 2.9. Tyler then hit a top-rope corkscrew plancha and finally got the victory.
As Bate celebrated, Triple H, William Regal and Johnny Saint were shown on the balcony applauding and giving both men a standing ovation.
4. Ladder Match for the NXT UK Tag Team Championships: Gallus (Wolfgang & Mark Coffey) (c) beat Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) and Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster and Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) (25:00)
Another very good match and a fun ladder match. They did tons of creative spots, but nothing too crazy and while everything looked good, it didn’t look ridiculously dangerous as some ladder matches from the past. It was mostly two teams in the ring at any time, with a few moments were everybody was in with each other. Gallus retained the titles in the end, after talking out Imperium. Some of the highlights included Webster and Morgan hitting a double Swanton on Wolfgang through a table on the outside and five ladders at the same time being used in the ring with everybody fighting on top of them.
A video recapped what led to this match.
In an untypical move for NXT (UK), Gallus, the champions, came out first. Also, Sid Scala is a liar, as he stated the next time any of the four teams would see the tag team titles, they would be suspended over the ring, yet Gallus were earing the belts. Andrews & Webster were out next, followed by Grizzled Young Veterans and finally, Imperium.
Gallus and Imperium paired off, as did the GYV and Morgan and Webster, who remained in the ring while the other foursome brawled at ringside. Grizzled Young Veterans remained standing, but quickly were taken out by Gallus as they celebrated. Imperium spoiled the party, taking out Gallus, but in turn were attacked by Webster and Morgan, who hit an assisted moonsault and standing moonsault on Aichner.
As the Welshmen regrouped in the ring, Gibson and Drake got steel chairs from under the ring and beat down Webster and Andrews. Gallus then came back in and relieved the veterans of the chairs. They looked to set up a conchairto on Drake, who was in a tree of woe, but got taken out by Imperium instead. Imperium got a ladder, but this time, Andrews and Webster beat them down and took the ladder, setting it up in the ring for the first time. Imperium spoiled the fun and both climbed the ladder, only to be knocked off by Gallus, wielding a bigger ladder.
Barthel took out Wolfgang with a ladder, as Webster and Morgan re-entered the ring and Webster hit a moonsault on Barthel off a ladder in the corner. Aichner then slingshotted Webster into another ladder bridged in the corner. Andrews slid under a ladder that Imperium looked to hit him with, then hit a double pelé kick on both. The Veterans then came back in and Drake hit a drop kick into the corner on Andrews, as Gibson trapped him with another ladder.
Meanwhile, Gallus also came back in and Coffey choke slammed Gibson on another, before they hit slingshot Samoan Drop on Gibson on another ladder. Imperium then foiled a Gallus attempt at reaching the belts as they brawled on the outside. Webster and Morgan used the opportunity to climb the ladder once more. In the stupid move of the night, Webster was alone at the top of the ladder, but instead of going for the belts, he hit a shooting star off the ladder on Wolfgang, which McGuinness also questioned.
Next up, Imperium and Andrews were in the ring and Aichner hit a triple-jump moonsault on Andrews on another ladder. Imperium climbed the ladder, but got pulled off by the Veterans. Drake and Gibson set up a taller ladder next to a smaller one, that still h Barthel on it. Gallus then set up another ladder and everyone but Webster and Morgan climbed a ladder. Andrews then wedged another ladder between the three ladders and the rope and climbed that one. Webster then brought a fifth ladder in and just leaned it against the rest. The ring resembled some weird playground climbing structure setup, with all the various ladders. Gibson hit Ticket to Ride on Andrews, as Drake hit a 450 off one of the propped up ladders.
Gibson then took Drake on his shoulders and climbed the ladder with him, but Aichner attacked Gibson, before they hit the European Bomb on Drake. Imperium then smartly cleared the ring of all the ladders but one, then climbed the remaining ladder on each side, but Gallus tipped the ladder over. They squashed Aichner and Barthel between two ladders and hit both repeatedly. They hit a power slam/kick combo on Drake, before Wolfgang launched Coffey over the top on the Veterans and Imperium. Gallus hit another power slam/kick combo on Gibson on the ramp.
As Gallus looked to grab the ladder in the ring, Andrews and Webster pulled it out of the ring, then hit a double Stunt Dog Millionaire. The Welshmen got the tallest ladder from the outside and had a tug-of-war with Gallus over it. Gallus won the war and pulled out some tables from under the ring, which they propped up between the apron an the barricade. Gallus looked to slam Webster and Morgan threw the tables, but they escaped and Coffey went through one of the tables. Andrews and Webster then climbed a ladder and hit a double Swanton off the ladder on Wolfgang through the table on the outside.
Andrews and Webster then climbed one of the smaller ladders in the ring, but the Grizzled Young Veterans attacked them. Drake climbed the ladder as Gibson kept Andrews off, but Andrews somehow got hold of a kendo stick and beat down the Veterans. As Andrews climbed the ladder, Imperium slid back in the ring, and Aichner pulled off Andrews in a vertical suplex position before hitting a brain buster. As Barthel climbed the ladder, Mark Coffey came in to stop him, but Aichner pulled him up for a power bomb, as Imperium looked to hit a European Bomb onto a ladder. Wolfgang suddenly came back in and speared Aichner through a ladder. Coffey then tipped over the ladder with Barthel on it, who flew to the outside on everyone else.
Gallus then climbed the ladder and retrieved the belts to retain the championships.
— Ridge Holland was shown in the crowd; Travis Banks had been shown earlier between the matches. No new signees or surprises in the crowd tonight.
5. WWE United Kingdom Championship: WALTER (c) beat Joe Coffey by submission with a head-and-arm choke (27:31)
A very good world title match, that told the story of Coffey, the challenger being able to hang with WALTER blow for blow and gaining the upper hand for portions of the match, including some impressive power spots and at times even absorbing some big chops. At one point, the referee got taken out by WALTER and Alexander Wolfe interfered, causing Ilja Dragunov to come out and even the odds. A Torpedo Moskau by Dragunov on Wolfe inadvertently took out Coffey’s knee, which factored into the match. WALTER survived two Best for the Bells, while Coffey kicked out of both a power bomb and a big splash. WALTER eventually tapped out Coffey after a sequence of moves, culminating with a head-and-arm choke.
After the match, Undisputed Era attacked Imperium, leaving WALTER laying leading up to the match between the two factions at World Collide during Royal Rumble weekend on January 25.
A video recapped the angles leading up to this match.
Coffey with a boxing stance and he ducked under a clothesline by WALTER. They locked up and Coffey actually managed to turn Coffey into the ropes and slapped him. WALTER retaliated with a forearm and a sleeper, but Coffey hit a backdrop driver and WALTER rolled to ringside. Coffey hit a boot on WALTER as he re-entered the ring and then hit a dive off the apron.
WALTER came back with European uppercuts, then smartly rolled into the ring for a half-second to break the count. Coffey drove WALTER into the barricades, but WALTER back body dropped him over. Coffey landed on his feet, then hit a dive over the barricades on WALTER.
Back in the ring, Coffey hit a number of body shots against WALTER, who actually covered up in the corner. WALTER came back with a strike of his own, but Coffey hit a belly-to-belly coming off the ropes and WALTER looked to have landed awkwardly on his shoulder. Coffey followed with a DDT out of the corner for a two-count. Coffey repeatedly tried to get WALTER up for a suplex and after some tries, actually got it for another two count. Coffey actually had the temerity to hit a chop on WALTER and WALTER dared him to go for more. WALTER then caved Coffey’s chest in with a chop of his own. WALTER then punished the Scot with more chops and stood to order in the middle of the ring.
Another shot rang out throughout the arena, as WALTER hit another chop on Coffey on the outside, before rearranging his face with a boot. Back in the ring, Coffey came back with more chops, but WALTER hit a body slam, followed by a sit-down splash. He locked in a single-leg Boston crab, then transitioned into an STF, until Coffey reached the ropes.
More chops of WALTER sent Coffey crashing to the mat, before WALTER twisted Coffey’s neck between his boots. Coffey rolled to ringside, but WALTER pulled him back onto the apron, then hist a number of hard shots across Coffey’s chest. Coffey caught the last shot, then sent WALTER on his back with a stiff shot of his own. Coffey looked to got for a dropkick, but WALTER caught him in mid-air and locked in a Boston crab, then transitioned into the STF, hit a number of elbows, before locking his huge hands across Coffey’s forehead and pulling back. Coffey eventually made the ropes once more, but the submission looked to have drained a lot of his resources.
WALTER trapped Coffey’s arm and hit more chops, but Coffey came back with a shot and the two repeatedly slammed into each other. WALTER finally hit a big boot and looked to go for the power bomb, but settled for a suplex when he couldn’t get it. WALTER got a two-count, then looked to apply another sleeper, but Coffey lifted him and dropped back, breaking the hold. Coffey managed to get WALTER on his shoulders for an Electric Chair, but WALTER escaped and Coffey speared him into the corner from behind. Coffey then hit a dead lift German suplex that put both men on their back.
Coffey hit a double-jump moonsault in WALTER for another two-count, but then ran into a bog boot. He shrugged it off, hit a clothesline but then ran into a chop. WALTER hit the power bomb, but Coffey kicked out at two. WALTER once more looked for a sleeper, but got thrown off with a judo throw. Coffey hit the Glasgow Sendoff and WALTER looked to hit a running senton but took out the referee, who rolled to ringside.
Coffey hit a power bomb of his own and got a viusal pin on WALTER, but the referee still was out.
Alexander Wolfe ran out and hot a kick on Coffey, then looked to drag WALTER back on his feet. At this point, Ilja Dragunov ran out and hit Torpedo Moskau on Wolfe, but Wolfe’s momentum looked to have taken out Coffey’s knee. WALTER then hit a huge lariat on Dragunov and stalked Coffey at ringisde, big booting him into the steel steps, then threw him into the steps once more for good measure, before hitting a power bomb on the apron.
He hit another clothesline and got a visual pin on Coffey, but by the time the referee slid back into the ring, Coffey kicked out at two. Wolfe and Dragunov then brawled to the back, as WALTER climbed the rop rope. Coffey was back on his feet and stopped him, but his knee buckled and he slipped off. WALTER repeatedly chopped Coffey, who feel to the mat, but still made it back to the top before WALTER could hit the big splash and launched a belly-to-belly superplex on the champion.
Both men exchanged shots on their knees and eventually on their feet, with Coffey getting the better of WALTER, even stopping a chop and getting WALTER to cover up once more. WALTER waited for his chance to strike though and struck at Coffey’s knee, then went up top and hit the big splash (almost slipping in the process), the move that won him the title from Pete Dunne, for another close near-fall.
WALTER went for another power bomb but Coffey flipped out of the move, then hit two Best for the Bells spinning lariats, but WALTER kicked out of the move. He went for a third attempt, but WALTER ducked and applied another sleeper, transitioned into a headlock, back into the sleeper, then kicked Coffey into the back of the neck. Coffey reached the ropes, but WALTER hit a sleeper suplex, followed by a power bomb, a chop to the back of the neck, another power bomb and finally applied a head-and.arm clutch, forcing Coffey to finally tap out.
As Imperium celebrated in the ring and the show looked to go off the air, The Undisputed Era suddenly slid into the ring and attacked them. They took out Wolfe, Barthel and Aichner on the outside, before ganging up on WALTER, who initially faced off with Cole and fought back, but was outnumbered. They each hit moves on WALTER, before Adam Cole finally took WALTER out with the Last Shot. Undisputed Era posed in the ring, as the show went off the air. Cole, Strong, Fish and O’Reilly fired the first shots leading up to the war those two factions will have at Worlds Collide, but they sure will have to deal with the wrath of Imperium in the coming weeks.
Pre-Show Matches, Exclusives and Post-Show videos:
There were two matches taped before the event, which will probably air on NXT UK next Thursday. Spoilers for those can probably found on the front page soon.
A Q&A with Triple H, conducted by Alicia Taylor aired on YouTube and Facebook after the show concluded.
Some WWE.com exclusive videos with comments from Toni Storm and Tyler Bate, Gallus, plus a confrontation between Eddie Dennis and Trent Seven and Undisputed Era celebrating after their heinous attack on Imperium are available on WWE.com and YouTube. Toni said that she understands that rules are made to be broken, but bitterly added that this did not apply to her. She said that what happened tonight would make things worse for Rhea Ripley when they face each other at Worlds Collide, and that her headspace was worse than before this match. This looks like a heel turn might be coming up. Tyler jus thanked the fans and said Blackpool has a special place in his heart. Eddie Dennis provoked Seven backstage as he was being attended to by officials and Seven snapped and repeatedly tried attacking Dennis, so it looks like this feud isn’t over. Gallus just were happy that they won their match and Undisputed Era celebrated on the entrance and had the fans chant Adam Cole BAY-Bay.
Final Thoughts and Analysis:
Another great NXT UK TakeOver. Eddie Dennis and Trent Seven had a good match in what feels like will be an ongoing storyline over at least the next set of tapings.
The women’s match was very good and the way Toni got cheated out of her win, plus her emotional distress looks like a heel turn is coming up. This will probably play both into the match with Rhea Ripley at Worlds Collide (especially if she loses) and might also set up a match with Piper Niven on the UK home front once she completely snaps. Niven and Kay Lee Ray also might be a program going forward.
Tyler Bate and Jordan Devlin was a tremendous match and both deserve a bigger spotlight. The question is, what’s next for Bate, as the only way to go on the UK brand would be against WALTER again, and while those two are great, the story has been told, unless Bate is the one to finally beat him. He would be a great fit on any roster and maybe might be better featured on NXT. The same goes for Devlin, who might be a good fit to join his mentor Finn Balor on NXT,now that they are in the same universe and on the same side of the locker room.
The ladder match was crazy and Gallus retained, which was a surprise, but any other results might have drawn criticism of the tag team titles changing too much. The finish left the door open for a Gallus vs. Imperium program, and they can have matches with all the teams in the match, plus what other teams there are on the brand. The match itself was very good.
WALTER vs. Joe Coffey told a good story and was a solid match. It established Coffey as a top-tier star and the spot with Ilja Dragunov can lead both to a Joe Coffey vs. Ilja Dragunov, Wolfe vs. Coffey or even WALTER vs. Ilja program. Ilja vs. WALTER seems like a logical next step and those two more then deliver on a big stage, so this match can be built up all the way to the next UK takeOver special.
All in all this was a great show and well worth going out of your way to watch it, if you haven’t seen the show live.
Tyler Bate’s rivalry with Jordan Devlin and Trent Seven’s feud with Eddie Dennis will lead to matches at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II.

Joseph Currier looks at the reactions to Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega’s unsanctioned match.
AEW’s first pay-per-view since debuting on weekly television was headlined by what will likely end up being the most divisive match of the year.
For some, Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega’s unsanctioned lights out match at Full Gear was a hardcore classic. To others, it was a gratuitously violent and long match that was a misstep for AEW. They wrestled for over 38 minutes and did everything they could to try and have the epic hardcore match that its biggest fans thought it was. A board covered in mouse traps, a chain, a screwdriver, glass, barbed wire, and a barbed wire spider web were just some of the weapons used. By the end of the match, part of the ring was deconstructed — and a Paradigm Shift DDT on the exposed wood finally put an end to things and gave Moxley the win.
Every move AEW has made in its brief history has been overanalyzed to the point of exhaustion. Each positive and negative moment has probably been assigned too much importance. But AEW is defining its identity over the course of the promotion’s first year. Moxley vs. Omega is now always going to be part of that. Full Gear was an opportunity for AEW to put their best foot forward to an audience that has sampled their first six weeks of TV. While it’s likely that some things were gimmicked and Moxley vs. Omega wasn’t quite as violent as it came off as, AEW not only didn’t shy away from the “blood and guts” criticism that Vince McMahon leveled at them — they leaned into it.

WWE posted a video earlier this week revealing that Cesaro would be appearing at UK TakeOver: Cardiff. Cesaro teased that he’d be taking a more “hands-on approach,” and it was announced prior to the show that Cesaro would be issuing an open challenge.
Dragunov walked up to Cesaro during a backstage interview at TakeOver, then went out to the ring and told Cesaro that he was waiting.
Dragunov has now lost two televised matches in NXT UK, with his losses coming against Cesaro and Kassius Ohno. Dragunov defeated Tyson T-Bone on the go-home show for TakeOver.

Pre-show play-by-play:
Welcome everybody to this live play-by-play of NXT UK’s second ever TakeOver special. Our pre-show tonight consists of Vic Jospeh, Nigel McGuiness and Aiden English. They talked about the tag team title match, pointing out that local heroes Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster might become the first ever Welsh champions in WWE history. They then ran down the rest of the card and showed Toni Storm and Kay Lee Ray arrive at the arena earlier tonight.
A video package recapped the story between tonight’s NXT UK women’s championship match, with Kay Lee Ray getting into Toni’s head by using intimate personal knowledge against her. Vic Jospeh wondered, if Toni Storm was broken mentally. Nigel said he wasn’t sure but the big question was, “Can Toni come back?”.
A pre-tape from earlier today showed Cesaro arriving at the arena and being interviewed by Radzi Chinyanganya. He said what he meant by taking a hands-on approach was that he didn’t bring his gear for nothing and would issue an open challenge to the NXT UK locker room tonight.
The announcers then recapped the history between Dave Mastiff and Joe Coffey, after they went to a double count-out three weeks ago, when neither men could continue and they hurt each other and beat the hell out of one another.
Next we took a look at The Grizzled Young Veterans’s NXT UK tag team championship reign and Gallus challenging them last month, followed by Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster challenging them and eventually being added to the match after winning in singles matches against members of the other teams.Vic brought up how The Grizzled Young Veterans complained that Andrews and Webster got their way into the match that way.
Imperium were shown entering their dressing room and closing the door. WALTER looked very serious and all business. A video recapped the main event, with the formation of Imperium, Alexander Wolfe joining the group, the subsequent destruction of both Tyler Bate and Trent Seven at the hands of WALTER and Tyler Bate’s return and getting the upper hand against WALTER. The announcers then discussed Tyler Bate’s chances in tonight’s main event.
Main show play-by-play:
A video introduction focused on Imperium’s iron grip on the NXT UK brand, then ran down the main matches on the card. Vic and Nigel are calling the show without Aiden English.
1. NOAM DAR BEAT TRAVIS BANKS AFTER THE NOVA ROLLER (13:55)
Dar in the past drew the ire of both Kenny Williams and Travis Banks, making out to be a bigger star than them and claiming he was guaranteed a match at TakeOver. Banks, after not being able to compete in the first NXT UK TakeOver in Blackpool, seems super motivated to get a win here tonight. This was a hot opener, with Dar repeatedly targeting Bank’s shoulder and knees and finally capturing the victory.
They locked up with Dar pushing Banks into the corner, but Banks returned the favor right away and Dar smiled as he escaped into the ropes, trying to frustrate Banks.Dar caught Banks off an aerial attack and tried locking in the ankle lock, but Banks quickly escaped. Banks followed up with leg kicks, then hit a running soccer kick on Dar’s head from the apron when Dar escaped to ringside. Dar then played possum and crotched Banks on the top rope, then hit a clothesline from the opposite turnbuckle for a near-fall.
Dar somersault slammed Banks into the ropes, which looked to have hurt Banks’ previously injured shoulder, which Dar promptly worked over. Banks came back with a basement dropkick into the corner and a German suplex to get a two-count of his own.Banks was dominant, until Dar outgrappled him, then hit reverse kicks to the shoulders from the bottom and rolled into a shoulder lock. Banks escaped and went for a cross-face, but didn’t quite get it.
Dar slapped Banks, enraging him, but then capitalized on Banks’ fury and worked over his knee. Banks went for Slice of Heaven from the second turnbuckle, but Dar again grabbed him frm mid-air and locked in a kneebar. They traded punches and Dar finally was forced to release the hold. Dar followed up with a basement lariat to the back of Banks head for another near fall, then mockingly hit Banks’ own trademark kicks to his head. Banks again went for Slice of Heaven but turned it into a foot stomp to the back of Dar mid-move, then followed up with a suicide dive to the outside.Dar once more tried to outsmart him, but was hit with Slice of Heaven from the ringside barrier instead.
Back in the ring, Banks hit a double foot stomp off the top for a close two count. They traded kicks, punches and forearms, with Banks eventually hitting a Shining Wizard. Banks went fo Slice of Heaven again, but Dar kicked his leg out from under him and hit the Nova Roller for the win.
— Kay Lee Ray was seen backstage, warming up for her title match against Toni Storm later tonight
— Radzi was backstage with Cesaro again, asking about his open challenge. Cesaro said he didn’t care about who it was. Ilja Dragunov walked up to him and got in his face.
2. CESARO BEAT ILJA DRAGUNOV WITH THE NEUTRALIZER (12:26)
This was a great match and Cesaro was greeted like a God of Wrestling here, after being just another face on the card in recent months. People were hot for this match and both men delivered, showing power and aggression as well as brutal strength and determination to deliver a great match on a big show. Cesaro won after catching Ilja off Torpedo Moscow and No Kings of Wrestling reformation and we will have to wait and see if Cesaro will be a regular here or if this was a one-time deal like with Finn Balor in January.
Dragunov right away hit a running kick on Cesaro, but the Swiss Cyborg came back right away. Ilja went for a body press but Cesaro easily caught him, but Dragunov escaped. They traded slaps, but mostly evaded each other and briefly came to a standstill. Ilja finally got a few chops in, hit a senton and went for a cover but didn’t get a pin. Cesaro thn nonchalantly dumped Dragunov over the top rope, throwing him head first into the barriers. Back in the ring, Cesaro followed up with a slam and leg drop, then locked in a chin lock.
Cesaro went for the big swing, but Dragunov blocked it, which was booed by the crowd. Cesaro then slingshot Dragunov’s throat on the bottom rope. Ilja went for the Konstantin Special, but Cesaro caught him in the ropes and did a 40-rotation giant swing to a massive pop and “Incredible!” chants. Cesaro went for a cover, but then transitioned into a cross face. Ilja looked like he was close to passing out, but then crawled towards the ropes and briefly rolled Cesaro over for the cover. He hit the Konstantin Special, which now is called Six One Line for a near fall. They briefly battled for position, but Dragunov finally managed to hit a crotch-hold driver, then followed up with a dive to the outside which almost came short but Dragunov pulled Cesaro down with him.
Ilja hit a coast-to-coast from the top rope for another near-fall. Dragunov hit a number of chops, but Cesaro then gorilla pressed him into a knee, Go to Sleep style for another close count. Ilja turned a lariat attempt into a back slide for a two count, then hit a Death Valley Driver into the corner to big “this is awesome!” chants. He followed up with a senton frm the top for another two-count, then prepared for Torpedo Moscow, but Cesaro launched him high into the air for a big uppercut, then followed up with the Neutralizer for the win.
Cesaro was already walking down the entrance, but then re-entered the ring and gestured to Ilja to get up. He teased hitting another uppercut, but instead shook Ilja’s hand.
— Adrian Street and Miss Linda were shown in the crowd, following the debut of the Adrian Street documentary on the WWE Network before tonight’s TakeOver
— Tyler Bate was shown preparing backstage, alongside Trent Seven
3. NXT UK TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP THREE-WAY: MARK ANDREWS & FLASH MORGAN WEBSTER BEAT THE GRIZZLED YOUNG VETERANS (C) AND GALLUS (WOLFGANG & JOE COFFEY) WHEN WEBSTER PINNED GIBSON TO WIN THE TITLES (20:17)
This was a crazy match full of high spots and at points, I had no way of keeping up with all action. Very good with the home town heroes of Webster and Andrews overcoming the odds and Webster pinning Gibson clean to win the titles.
Gibson and Andrews started off. Gibson ground him to the mat among chants of “Shoes off, if you hate Gibson”. Nigel said he didn’t want the people of Cardiff take off their shoes. Drake tagged in and Andrews got the better of him. Andrews and Webster double teamed him, including hitting a joint moonsault/somersault on him. Wolfgang tagged, but Gibson pulled Drake to safety at ringside.Drake smartly tagged Webster and it was Wolfgang and Webster next, but this quickly led to a three-way standoff with all three teams.
Wolfgang took out Drake on the apron but Gibson ducked him, then blind-tagged Wolfgang just as Andrews was going for a springboard but he noticed it and hit Gibson with a springboard drop kick. Webster and Andrews then hit stereo moonsaults on Gallus on the outside as the action moved on faster than words can describe (or I can type, at least) . Drake and Webster ended up back in the ring and the Grizzled Young Veterans worked him over with a few dirty tricks they had up their sleeves.
Webster was in peril for a while, with Drake applying a nerve hold. It was Whack-a-Webster, as Drake, Mark Coffey and Zack Gibson all got to beat him up, until Webster finally managed to tag in Andrews. He hit a wheelbarrow roll-up on Gibson, then transitioned into a spinning DDT on Drake and hit a double Pelé kick on Gallus, before him and Webster hit stereo dives on both opposing teams on opposite sides of the ringside area. Andrews hit a 450 on Gibson, but Drake made the save.
Mark Coffey then took out Webster and Andrews, then him and Wolfgang double teamed Andrews for a two-count. After some more action, Wolfgang ended up taking a reverse rana by Andrews after Webster provided some assistance with a kick to Wolfgang’s face. Gibson foiled an aerial attack by Andrews, then Mark Coffey and Andrews fought on top with Andrews first head-butting Coffey off the top, then it a shooting star to the outside on everyone.
Back inside, Andrews and Gibson fought, with Andrews hitting Stunt Dog Millionaire, followed by a senton from Webster but Gibson narrowly kicked out at 2.9. Drake was back inside, hitting a Shotgun dropkick on Andrews, followed by Helter Skelter from Gibson and a 450 from Drake but this time it was Andrews’s turn to kick out at 2.9 to a big pop. After Gibson and Webster got involved, all four men were down, just as Gallus re-entered the ring. Gallus took out everyone, then Wolfgang launched Coffey over the top onto everyone. Wolfgang hit a Coffey-assisted power slam on Andrews, but Webster narrowly made the save during the pin.
Everyone was back in the ring and for a moment it looked like the other teams teamed up on Gallus. In the melee, Webster hit a Welsh Destroyer before The Grizzled Young Veterans hit a Doomsday Device on Wolfgang with Gibson hoisting him up on the outside and Drake diving through the ropes with w clothesline. At that point, it was Webster & Morgan vs. Drake & Gibson. They trhew out Webster, but Andrews turned Helter Skelter into a double Stunt Dog Millionaire and Webster hitting the 450 on Drake, but Gibson pulled the referee out of the ring.
The Veterans hit Ticket to Mayhem on Andrews and Gibson went to cover him, as Drake took out Gallus with a dive. Webster at this point hit a shooting star press on Gibson to break up the cover and pinned Gibson for him and Andrews to become new NXT UK tag team champions.
Andrews and Webster then celebrated with family and friends at ringside.
— Toni Storm was shown getting ready for her title match later
4. LAST MAN STANDING MATCH: JOE COFFEY BEAT “BOMBER” DAVE MASTIFF AFTER HITTING HIM WITH A CRATE, PREVENTING HIM FROM GETTING UP BEFORE 10 (16:03)
This was a crazy brawl, where they virtually broke the ring in the first minute, with the top turnbuckle coming off a whip-in. They did all kinds of weapon shots and table spots and brawled all the way to the announce table through the arena, crashed off a platform through that table and still didn’t have enough. Coffey won, by pushing a box into Mastiff just as he was about to get up before the ten count.
Mastiff attacked Coffey as he came down the ring with a chain and things were on! They traded hard punches in the ring, with Coffey getting the upper hand, but Mastiff was no worse for wear. A hard whip by mastiff into the corner broke the turnbuckle, which Mastiff immediately went to clubber Coffey with. He then shoved the metal part between Coffey’s teeth and slammed his face to the mat. Coffey tried to go for a springboard, but the turnbuckle had no support and he crashed to the mat.
Mastiff hit a German suplex on Coffey and threw him outside, but Coffey got back to his feet at 3. Coffey came back with a pool cue, then produced a bag labeled “Gallus” from under the ring and emptied a bunch of weapons on the floor. He also propped a table up on the barrier, but Mastiff back body dropped him onto the pile of weapons. Coffey against got up at three and Mastiff tried to attack him with a cricket bat but Coffey evaded him and broke the pool cue over Mastiff’s back.
Mastiff got the bat and clobbered Coffey’s back, but it wasn’t enough to keep Coffey down. Coffey then jumped over a charging Mastiff, who tried to drive him into the table, then speared him through the table himself, which kept Mastiff down until eight. Coffey tried to hit Mastiff again with the chain, but got German suplexed for his troubles, which kept him down until five. Mastiff then started whipping Coffey with the chain to “Fuck him up, Mastiff, fuck him up” chants.
Mastiff got another table and again propped it up on the outside. Mastiff and Coffey had a tug-of-war with the steel chain, until Mastiff smartly released it, sent Coffey tumbling back and hit a running cannonball on Coffey through the table. Coffey got up at eight and fled into the crowd over the barricade. Mastiff stalked him with a chair as he crawled away, then beat him up with said piece of seating furniture.
Coffey then hit Mastiff again with a chain-wrapped fist and sent him down for an eight count. Mastiff then tossed Coffey a chair and had one himself, then they proceeded to run at each other with their chairs, wall-of-death-style, which sent both men down to the floor, but both narrowly got back up at nine. They brawled over to the announce table at the edge of the entrance way and Mastiff put Coffey up on the table, then picked him up for a Finlay Roll on the table, which didn’t even budge under the weight of the two large men.
Both men brawled up onto the pre-show platform over the announce table and stared each other down, before trading punches, with each trying to send the other man down. Coffey grabbed mastiff by the beard, who proceeded to head-butt him, sending both men crashing down the platofrm and through the announce table. Both men wer down for the count, struggling to get back up. They were staggering to their feet at nine, but Coffey managed to push a traveling case into Mastiff to send him back down before the count of 10, winning the Last Man Standing match.
— they showed WALTER prepare for his match, surrounded by his Imperium brothers
— Teagan Nox was shown in the crowd
5. NXT UK WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP: KAY LEE RAY BEAT TONI STORM (C) WITH THE GORY BOMB TO WIN THE TITLE (9:52)
Kay Lee Ray won the title clean after hitting two Gory Bombs (one of them into the ropes) in just under 10 minutes. Toni looked strong, but coudln’t KLR away and the story was that Kay lee knew her very well and got in her mind. Thy had a good match otherwise that had a lot of intensity.
Toni was ready to fight, but KLR immediately fled to ringside. She repeatedly backed away, enjoying her mind games being successful, until Toni dove at her and unleashed on her, then threw her into the barrier. KLR slapped her, in retaliation for the slap Toni had dished out a few weeks ago, but Toni quickly took over again. KLR came back with a savate kick through the ropes right on Toni’s nose, then proceeded to choke her over the middle rope. She followed up with a seated abdominal stretch, then hit a front face suplex for a two count. Toni ducked a number of slaps, then hit a German suplex after a failed attempt.
Storm tried for Storm Zero, but KLR countered into an attempt of her Gory Bomb, but Toni reversed into the a reverse wheelbarrow position and hit a sort of Candian Destroyer for a two count, Toni then hit Storm Zero, but KLR managed to kick out, which stunned the crowd and the announcers. Toni looked flustered and KLR hit the Gory Bomb for a two-count herself.
They fought on the top rope and Storm tried for Storm zero, but didn’t get it, She vaulted over KLR, then hit a second turnbuckle German suplex on KLR for another two count. Toni dove through the ropes onto KLR on the outside, but KLR kneed her in the face as she re-entered the ring, then followed up with a launching somersault off the top, which she looked to have landed awkardwly on but seemed to be OK.
Back inside, KLR actually hit another Gory Bomb close to the ropes, launching Toni into the ropes, then followed up with another Gory Bomb for the victory and title win.
— they are really pushing the NXT debut on USA on September 18, as they aired the same hype video three times during this show alone
— Junior, the band that Mark Andrews is a part of were shown in the audience. Their song “Brick by Brick” is an official theme song for this show
6. WWE UK CHAMPIONSHIP: WALTER (C) BEAT TYLER BATE AFTER A LARIAT TO RETAIN THE TITLE (42:12)
This was an unreal, epic 42-minute battle that took everything out of both men and may have been the best match I ever saw from either of them. They pulled out all of their big moves and then some. The crowd was livid and super into the match and both men left everything they had in the ring. WALTER repeatedly smashed Bate into the apron, as he had done weeks ago, and Bate came close to winning a number of times and performed some great feats of strength, which the crowd ate up. These two were artists and the ring was their canvas, as they painted a dramatic picture like few ever seen in NXT or WWE in general over the years. Go out of you way to watch this, as it just might be the match of the weekend.
The crowd was firmly behind Bate, chanting and singing his name. Bate evaded a WALTER chop in the ropes and countered with a leg kick. Tyler tried working over WALTER’s wrist, but quickly found himself in a chin lock before resorting to leg kicks. WALTER used his size advantage to push down on Bate during a test of strength. WALTER pinned Bate down and umped on top of him, but bate bridged out, pushing WALTER up in the process, which always in an impressive spot. They traded forearms, but Bate quickly was trapped in a headlock on the mat. Bate actually worked back on his feet, but quickly got taken down again. Meanwhile, the crowd chanted “WALTER is a wanker”.
Bate actually managed to pick up WALTER off the headlock, but WALTER quickly tried to go for a power bomb. Bate escaped, tried to go for Tyler Driver ’97, which WALTER escaped from. bate then actually managed to stagger WALTER of a shoulder block then slammed the big man to a big pop. Bate followed up with a dive, but WALTER caught him and threw him into the apron, then followed up with a power bomb on the outside, sending Bate into the edge of the apron.
WALTER followed up with a big boot as Bate tried entering back into the ring. The big Austrian threw bate into the barrier, followed up with a running boot that bent Bate in half, then threw Bate head-first into the ring post with another power bomb. The doctor checked on Bate as WALTER paced the ring. Bate got back on his feet and signaled that he was ready to go on. Back in the ring, WALTER body slammed Bate, then kicked him in the back.
WALTER got out the chops, turned Bate’s chest into a platter of ground meat, then bent him over the top turnbuckle for good measure, using his foot to bend Bate almost all the way down to the apron. He tried to follow up with a power bomb on the apron, but Bate blocked it, then gave WALTER a massive exploder from the apron to the outside. He smashed WALTER into the barriers, then gave him a series of leg drops in the ring, before charging him with elbows. He followed with a spinning European uppercut from the second turnbuckle, but WALTER chopped him out out of mid-air, then locked him in a Boston Crab to vanquish any momentum that may have been there.
He planted his knee high on Bate’s spine, then transitioned into a neck crank.Bate actually blocked a suplex attempt by WALTER, but couldn’t get him up for a suplex of his own and got the receipt in form of a chop right away. Then, after blocking another attempt, he actually got WALTER up for a suplex of his own as the crowd erupted. Bate staggered the champ with a number of uppercuts, then hit three clotheslines and a kappa kick to stagger WALTER. He followed up with an exploder, after failing to hit a German, kipped-up and hit a running shooting star press for a two-count.
Bate went for the Tyler Driver ’97, but WALTER escaped. Bate went for another attempt off a reversal of a back slide, but once more WALTER escaped. WALTER hit a Shotgun dropkick to Bate’s back, shooting him into the corner, but Bate managed to get a sunset flip off a power bomb attempt for a very close near-fall.
Bate got on the top rope, but WALTER rolled to the apron. They fought back and fort, until WALTER climbed the ropes as well, with Bate looking to suplex the champ to the outside. WALTER escaped, then chopped Bate off the ropes and climbed them himself once more, looking to go for his big splash that won him the title against Pete Dunne in New York. Bate stopped him with a head-butt, They fought in the top once more, with Bate doing Pete Dunne’s finger snapping spot, then hit another exploder off the top for another 2.9 count.
They traded chops and leg kicks while both were down on the mat. WALTER clobbered him down a few times with chops and forearms, but Bate kept getting back up for more. Bate actually hit him with a hard forearm and WALTER crumbled, but landed on Bate who had trouble struggling out from under the giant. They dramatically slugged it out on the mat once more. They were back up and WALTER hit some palm strikes. Bate went for his slingshot clothesline, but this time WALTER caught him in an exploder. Bate kicked WALTER’s face off a power bomb attempt, then actually got him up on his shoulders for an airplane spin.WALTER grabbed the ropes in the corner and climbed them, but Bate grabbed him and hit Trent Seven’s Burning Hammer. which left both men with very little left on the mat.
WALTER rolled to ringside and collapsed, but made it back on the apron. bate hit him with a running soccer kick, then dove onto him with a sort of DDT or bulldog., then launched himself at tha champ once more, this time flying high over the top rope. WALTER was on his kneed and Bate actually dead lift German suplexed him for another close count. Bate went for Tyler Driver ’97, but WALTER reversed out, then Bate actually hit it but still could not pin the Ring General’s shoulders down for the three count. bate followed with a corkscrew senton, which didn’t lead to victory either.
Bate got out some dirty boxing and had the champ hurt, but as the ref told Bate to back off, WALTER struck him down, then locked in the sleeper. Bate actually got up from under him and picked the big man up on his back, then drove him back down on the mat.WALTER locked in the choke once more, with Bate narrowly making it to the ropes. WALTER stroke him in the chest and locked in the move once more, but Bate actually pulled him over the top rope until both were on the apron once more. WALTER then actually hit a sleeper hold suplex onto the apron that flipped Bate over. WALTER then hit the big splash from the top, but Bate managed to kick out of that. WALTER hit another sleeper suplex in the ring, but Bate was an immortal god that could not be kept down. Another power bomb also yielded no desirable results, as Bate KICKED. OUT. AT. ONE!
WALTER then finally hit a desperation lariat that might as well have taken Bate’s head off and finally pinned his opponent’s shoulders to the mat for the one-two-three. Unreal match.
After the match, the rest of Imperium came out to pose with WALTER and congratulate their general on his successful title defense.
Bate was devastated and exhausted as Pete Dunne and Trent Seven entered the ring and helped him to the back. bate actually managed a smile, knowing he survived the battle to fight another day and also knowing that he came closer to beating WALTER than any other man in NXT UK to date. British Strong Style did their salute in the ring to a big pop and raised Tyler’s hand as the show went off the air.
Final thoughts:
A great TakeOver, with a number of very good to great matches. WALTER/Bate was a legit match of the year candidate and possibly the best match of either man’s career. Tyler Bate has future superstar written all over him and along with Johnny Gargano should probably have been in the main event mix on the major rosters two years ago. WALTER is tremendous as well, both as a performer relying on basic but effective moves and has tremendous ring psychology. In a way, he comes across as a more legit Brock Lesnar, whereas Lesnar’s offense nowadays looks often cartoonish while still brutal, WALTER is the real deal with his no-nonsense approach. Still with things being the way they are, a future in the U.S. as a full-timer seems not to be in the cards for him and that is according to his own wishes. It will be really interesting who they build up as his next challenger, as the Imperium vs. British Strong Style saga, while yielding incredible matches, seems to be told for now and things should move to a new direction until the end of the year.
Ilja Dragunov vs. Cesaro was a lot of fun, very hard-hitting and a nice bonus to the card. Dave Mastiff vs. Joe Coffey was an all-out brawl with a number of spots and weapons usually not seen in WWE. The three way tag team title match was full of action from beginning to end and the crowd ate up the local heroes winning. The women’s match told a good story and Toni Storm really should be on the main roster every week. Noam Dar vs. Travis Banks was a good opener that set the proper mood for the rest of the show.

After defeating Joe Coffey to retain the WWE United Kingdom Championship in the main event of NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, Dunne was in the ring celebrating as the show appeared to be going off the air. But WALTER appeared in an angle at the end of the show, coming out to his regular theme music (Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9). On commentary, Nigel McGuinness hyped that WALTER was here.
