NWA Power results: Kamille’s championship coronation

NWA Power opened with Billy Corgan and Mickie James making an announcement about their first-ever all-women’s PPV in addition to NWA 73 — both of which can you read about here.

Joe Galli Gives The Business To Strictly Business

Kamille joined Joe Galli to talk about how it felt to be the new NWA World Women’s Champion. She announced she was going to be a part of the main event tonight and brought out Thom Latimer who kissed her.

Galli cut off Latimer, saying Kamille earned this time, he should be ashamed of himself for what he did to Trevor Murdoch at Sunday’s PPV, and that he should be proud of Kamille and focus on her.

Galli cut a huge babyface promo on Strictly Business and their cheating, calling them despicable leading to Nick Aldis coming out with Chris Adonis and threatening him. Galli demanded answers for what Aldis did. Tim Storm came out and told him to cool off, protecting him from Aldis. Galli congratulated Kamille, saying she won the title the right way before walking away.

Storm then asked about the NWA National Title tournament. Adonis said that as far as he was concerned, he was still the National champion. Storm rightly pointed out that Aldis put Adonis in the position where he had to lay down the title to enter the no. 1 contender battle royal. Aldis put the blame on Billy Corgan and said it was Corgan’s attempt to keep Strictly Business away from all the titles in the NWA.

Aldis said that there was nothing Corgan could do to stop them from taking the National title and the Tag Team titles — holding all the gold. Storm then announced all the competitors in the tournament and were presented with a situation where Strictly Business could face off against each other, but it would be friendly competition between friends if it happens. Aldis then announced he was going to be the second for Kamille at her coronation tonight.

— May Valentine was with former champion Serena Deeb who put over Kamille and how the match went, saying that on that night she was the better woman and who knows what might happen next.

TV Champion The Pope defeated Luke Hawx (w/ PJ Hawx) to retain

This was a great little TV title match here with Pope retaining and having another victory heading toward his Lucky 7.

Pope had the upper hand in the early going, but Hawx showed some technical ability by countering Pope and getting the advantage. Hawx has been wrestling for 20 years, so it’s nice to see him being positioned as a veteran equal to Pope. For every move that Pope had, Hawx had a counter.

Hawx hit a great dropkick on Pope for a near fall as the time ticked down with two minutes being left. Hawx hit a backbreaker and went right after the back with knees as well. Hawx, knowing he didn’t have much time left, tried to hit some strikes but missed a corner charge.

Pope hit a DDT and both men were down. Pope ducked a second kick attempt and hit an uppercut that drove him to the corner. Pope then hit the Elijah Express for the pinfall victory. He shook hands with both Hawx and his son after the match which got a great reaction from the fans in attendance.

— As Kyle Davis and Valentine were plugging merchandise, a masked man walked up and said he was signed by Billy Corgan and that Corgan was the only one that knew who he was and why he signed with the NWA. The masked man said that he didn’t respect anyone backstage and was here to compete. Interesting.

Taryn Terrell defeated Lady Frost

I didn’t like this at all as it made Lady Frost look dumb. Terrell was very good at being as annoying as possible, but unlike the Young Bucks who often look like fools after being annoying, Terrell did not which got the wrong kind of heat with me.

Terrell left the ring and backed off right away, saying that she really didn’t want to wrestle Frost. Frost demanded that Terrell get in the ring. Terrell said she was going to leave, shook Frost’s hand, and invited her to leave the ring. Frost shook her head and went to leave, but Terrell rolled her up and pulled the tights for the pinfall.

— Austin Idol & Tyrus came out for an unscheduled promo which Kyle Davis pointed out. Idol responded that Davis’ birth was unscheduled which made me laugh. Idol insisted that Tyrus could knock anyone out with his right hand, leading to BLK Jeez making his way out with a business proposition. Tyrus and Idol left. Seeing an old CZW star from the early 2000s come out on NWA Power was a bit surreal.

— Valentine was with Trevor Murdoch and said she wished she could be greeting him as NWA World Champion. Murdoch said he was used to being screwed in wrestling, but that when he came to the NWA, he thought he had a chance if he had a one-on-one match for the title. He said he had Aldis beat and still lost. He had given everything and it wasn’t enough. He said he needed time to collect himself and figure out what was next, saying he was a man without direction. He knew what he wanted, but maybe he just wasn’t going to win the big one. His best wasn’t enough and he really struggled with how to tell his son he couldn’t do it. This was a great promo.

La Rebelion (Bestia 666 & Mecha Wolf) & The End (Parrow & Odinson) went to a double DQ

While I’m never a fan of non-finishes, this one worked out well and had a nice little angle to setup a tornado tag or another stip match down the line between both teams. The End looked like monsters, but La Rebelion looked great too.

The End attacked before La Rebelion could get settled. The ref rang the bell, only for Mecha Wolf to get double teamed as Odinson hit a fireman’s carry slam on his own partner onto Wolf for a near fall. Parrow hit a huge chokeslam on Mecha Wolf for another two count.

The match broke down into pure violence where all four men were fighting and the referee couldn’t get control, calling for the bell. The End hit double power bombs on La Rebelion and left the ring to confront the announcers. As they were saying that no one was safe, La Rebelion hit stereo suicide dives and they all brawled backstage.

— Aldis entered with two bouquets of flowers for Kamille and introduced her as the NWA Women’s Champion. Melina came down to the ring and got into her face. Jennacide then ran out and pulled Melina away to face off with her, but Melina rolled out of the ring.

Jennacide raised Kamille’s hand, picked up her flowers, and handed them back. Aldis and Kamille celebrated as the show went off the air. This was a rather weak segment to end the show on, but they are trying to build something between Kamille and Jennacide which seems like a logical step given past episodes.

Final Thoughts:

This was a very good episode of NWA Power. I loved Galli standing up for the babyfaces in a very traditional announcer role, but it was so refreshing to see one of them press the heels for answers and for it to get really heated. Aldis looked ready to kill him and Storm making the save but still pressing on the questions was really good too.

Both Pope and Luke Hawx were great too. I like that NWA is giving Hawx a look and lots of chances to look good.

They had several stories move forward tonight and despite the Dusty finish with the Murdoch-Aldis match on the PPV, they are actually trying to make the most of it. I am still reserving judgement because the NWA rarely does that kind of finish, but since we have been burned so often by WWE and TNA doing those kind of things in recent memory, it makes what could be an effective finish for heat actually turn into the wrong kind of heat.

With that said, Murdoch was great in his promo and I’m sure they are building to something with him and Aldis again for the anniversary show in August. We shall see how that goes.

NWA announces August all-women’s PPV produced by Mickie James

The NWA is heading to St. Louis, Missouri, for two pay-per-views this August, one of which will be an all-women’s affair produced by Mickie James.

NWA owner Billy Corgan announced the news alongside James at the beginning of Tuesday’s Power. James said that while she could have wrestled any of the top talents out there, the all-women’s show was something has she wanted for years, only to be “cut off at every opportunity.”

James was released by WWE earlier this year. She didn’t say whether she would be wrestling on the show.

The news was part of several announcements an emotional Corgan made about the NWA and St. Louis this August:

  • The all-women’s PPV will be on Saturday, August 28th. A name for the show wasn’t announced.
  • The second PPV of the weekend will be on Sunday, August 29th from the Chase Ballroom, called NWA 73 — an anniversary show and tribute to the original home of the NWA and legendary promoter Sam Muchnick.
  • TV tapings will be held on Monday, August 30th and Tuesday, August 31st.

Corgan didn’t mention whether fans will be in attendance, but it’s assumed they will be.

NWA Power results: Battle royale for World title shot

The Pope opened the show by joining the commentary booth, showing off a bright new white strap for his NWA TV Title.

Kratos & Aron Stevens joined Kyle Davis at the podium to discuss their tag team title defense later in the show. Davis pointed out that Stevens and Kratos haven’t been getting along and Stevens said there was enough proof that they could get the job done by how they have kept successfully defending the titles.

Kratos said nothing and both men went to the ring, eyeing each other down.

NWA World Tag Team Champion Aron Stevens & Kratos defeated The War Kings (Jax Dane & Crimson) to retain

This was a solid tag match here, but this felt like the beginning of a feud and not the final match in one. I do think that the War Kings are going to be the ones to take out Stevens and Kratos. I do like that they are furthering the storyline of Kratos and Stevens not liking each other, but because they are so good, they get the job done anyway.

Kratos tagged himself in and Dane asked to go to war with the big man to open the match. The two big guys had a mean guy match using power moves with Dane flattening Kratos with a lariat.

Stevens tagged in when Kratos pulled Crimson back to their corner, but the advantage didn’t last long with Crimson and Dane double teaming Stevens. Dane did the Garvin Stomp on Stevens while taunting Kratos. Stevens managed to drag himself over for a tag and Kratos hit a huge deadlift vertical suplex on Crimson.

As the referee was looking at Dane, a mystery man attacked Crimson and knocked him out. Kratos took advantage and pinned him.

— Nick Aldis came out to the podium to discuss removing Thom Latimer and Adonis from the Tag Team Championship match last week. He claimed that he didn’t force them to do anything. Aldis said that they came to the decision collectively and then claimed he was going to make a star in Mims in an exhibition match.

— Kyle Davis announced a few more of the competitors in the battle royal later in the night, noting that Trevor Murdoch was one of the names in it. The problem: it hasn’t been 30 days yet (only 28 if you’re counting) on his suspension. I’m not sure what to think of that.

NWA World Champion Nick Aldis defeated Mims in an exhibition match

Aldis dominated this squash, ending with the Texas cloverleaf within a few moments.

Thunder Rosa (w/ Melina) and Kamille (w/ Taryn Terrell) ended in a draw

Rosa immediately started working over Kamille’s knee to keep her grounded. Rosa and Kamille exchanged a lot of mat wrestling, immediately making this very different from their previous matches. Rosa showed her advantage with her submission game, trying to slowly wear Kamille down, a highlight of which was the Cattle Mutilation.

Rosa continued to outwrestle Kamille, who tried to pull hair and throw strikes to escape, but Rosa was relentless. Kamille eventually made it to the ropes to break them apart and Rosa went right back to kicking the legs, later hitting a bulldog. Rosa did a corner charge and Kamille tripped Rosa, who crashed headfirst into the middle turnbuckle.

It took Kamille using power and strength to take the advantage back. Kamille hit a few backbreakers on Rosa, keeping her grounded. Kamille looked a bit tired at this point, but Rosa sold so well that it still made all of Kamille’s offense look good for the most part.

Rosa hit a few chops and went for a crossbody, but Kamille caught her and locked on a bearhug, lifting Rosa from the mat. Kamille then hit a belly-to-belly and set up for a superplex, but Rosa countered with a sunset flip power bomb out of the corner.

Terrell tried to interfere, but Melina pulled her out of the ring. The screen was blurred because apparently there was a wardrobe malfunction. The referee threw Terrell and Melina out of ringside and Rosa hit a dropkick on Kamille on the floor. Rosa immediately went back to her game plan, working for submissions on the ground and outwrestling Kamille.

Rosa hit double knees to the face in the corner to Kamille and a huge dropkick to her spine for a two count. Kamille went for a spear, but Melina came back out. Kamille dropped her with a clothesline, but Rosa rolled through and hit a codebreaker on Kamille for another two count.

Kamille tried to pick Rosa up, but Rosa locked on an octopus stretch. Kamille still managed to power out into some pinfall attempts. Kamille had Rosa in a fireman’s carry, but she was clearly exhausted and just fell backward without doing an actual move. Rosa countered into an armbar on Kamille, who just picked Rosa up and power bombed her into the top turnbuckle.

Kamille hit a spear on Rosa, but Rosa got her feet on the ropes. Rosa countered a second spear into another armbar and had Kamille completely trapped as the bell rang for a time limit draw.

This match was infinitely better than their first one as Rosa worked incredibly hard to make Kamille look good. Kamille held up her end too, keeping pace with Rosa despite being exhausted toward the end of the match. The match ending in a draw means that Rosa is allowed to continue wrestling wherever she wants, but what does it mean for the no. 1 contender to the NWA Women’s Championship?

Trevor Murdoch won a battle royal to become the no. 1 contender to the NWA World title

Well, the match sucked but the ending was great. One of the weaker parts of this match was that the battle royal only had one rule: if you touch the floor, you’re eliminated. You didn’t have to be even thrown over the top rope.

I would have had Murdoch enter as the Midnight Rider given the 30 days haven’t actually been up yet. However, Murdoch was an excellent babyface here and easy to cheer for.

Chris Adonis came out, having given up the NWA National title to enter the battle royal. Sal Rinauro was immediately eliminated, followed by Parrow not long after. A few others went out fast as this was mostly standard battle royal fare. Aldis, on commentary, spent the match demanding people take out Murdoch.

Tyrus had the laziest elimination of Jordan Clearwater that I have ever seen.

The final four was Adonis, Latimer, Murdoch and Tyrus. Pope came out and pulled Tyrus from the ring, who lazily laid down on the mat and barely got dragged out.

Adonis and Latimer tried to double team Murdoch, but Murdoch ducked and Adonis accidentally hit Latimer to send him to the floor. Murdoch then clotheslined Adonis over the top rope, getting revenge for all the attacks from Adonis.

Aldis stormed the ring and immediately attacked Murdoch, who fought back and hit a top rope bulldog. He celebrated before cutting to the podium with Kyle Davis. Murdoch, in tears, said he was so proud to challenge for the NWA World title. He said that he was coming for the title and was going to win the title that Harley Race held. This was an excellent babyface promo.

Final Thoughts:

I really couldn’t have imagined myself saying this months ago, but how do you not put the title on Trevor Murdoch after all of this? He should be the one to win it right now, because why not? At this point, you might as well go with the top babyface that you have.

I liked that they addressed Adonis being in the battle royal by having him give up the National title as he made a big sacrifice for Strictly Business. But, this has to come back to haunt Aldis at some point given it did not pay off.

I enjoyed the tag team build with Stevens and Kratos and I really liked the Rosa vs. Kamille match. Overall, this was a good episode of NWA Power and exactly what they needed going into the PPV in two weeks.

NWA Power results: The War Kings vs. The End

NWA Power opened with a recap of what happened last week with Nick Aldis pulling Strictly Business from the World Tag Team title match from last week.

Kyle Davis was at the podium with an announcement from Billy Corgan, who provided Davis with a written statement. Corgan wrote about what happened last week, and stripped Latimer and Adonis of their tag team championship opportunity. Corgan also docked their pay, and also docked Aldis’ pay for one month, donating it to charity.

Corgan also announced that Aldis and Strictly Business would have their contracts terminated if they do this again, and if they do not appear next week, they will be stripped of their titles and would never be seen in the NWA again.

In light of the angle from last week that saw the show suddenly go off the air with no main event, this was a very good follow up. Corgan worked as a babyface owner that wasn’t going to be pushed around by the heels, and he let them know that he was the one in charge.

NWA World Television Championship: The Pope defeated Matt Cross to retain

Solid match from both guys here, and now Pope only needs 3 more matches before he can cash in for a chance at the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship.

Cross and Pope exchanged arm drags to open the match before Cross did a drop down and hit a dropkick as Pope hit the ropes. They both hit the ropes again, and as Cross went for a cross body (pun intended) Pope hit a powerslam.

Pope went for a vertical suplex, but Cross slipped out and hit a fireman’s carry into a neck breaker. Pope dodged an attack and sent Cross to the apron. Cross hit a pump kick and then hit a big suicide dive on Pope.

Cross went for a shooting star press, but Pope rolled out of the way (sort of. He rolled the wrong way), and then Pope hit the Elijah Express for the pinfall.

NWA World Tag Team Championship: Aron Stevens & Kratos defeated Fred Rosser & Marche Rockett

While I normally don’t like storylines with tag partners that don’t get along, this one is being done as well as it can be. They’re clearly building to the break-up between the two, but because they’re still managing to win, they are okay with their tentative alliance.

Stevens and Rosser started the match. Kratos was hesitant to tag into the match, but when he did he beat the crap out of everyone in the ring. His hesitation to make a tag was paid back when Kratos wanted to tag out when he had Rosser in an abdominal stretch. As Kratos argued with Stevens, Rockett tagged in and attacked, but it didn’t work well.

Kratos eventually tagged out because he was hurt, and Stevens swept Rockett’s legs and hit a DDT. Rockett dodged a corner charge and hit a dropkick. As he went to tag out, Kratos pulled Rosser off the apron. Stevens argued with him about it, but he hit a flying forearm on Rockett and scored the pinfall.

Melina and Taryn Tarrell were backstage, and both of them wanted to make sure that there were no shenanigans in the match with Kamille and Thunder Rosa.

Thunder Rosa defeated Jennacide

This was a great squash match, where Jennacide looked strong, but Rosa simply outwrestled her and tapped her out with her superior submission skills.

Jennacide used size and power to keep control of the early portions of the match, hitting power slams and avoiding Thunder Rosa’s offence. Rosa eventually managed to chop her down with kicks and locked on a kneebar for a submission finish, but she took a beating to get it there. Good squash match.

Austin Idol and Tyrus were with Kyle Davis, and Tyrus congratulated Pope on his successful defense, but indicated that Pope still hadn’t beat him. Idol announced that the first entrant in the 14-man battle royal was none other than Tyrus. Idol promised that Tyrus was going to win the battle royal and go after Aldis.

Idol also had a list of several competitors in the battle royal, and Davis asked how he got the information. Idol said, “Because I’m a genius,” which made me laugh. Idol joked that he was going to enter it with the quality of competition in the match, and promised that Tyrus was going to win. Good promo.

The War Kings (Crimson & Jax Dane) defeated The End (Parrow & Odinson) to become the #1 Contenders for the NWA World Tag Team Championship

Well, what in the world was that finish? This is a pre taped show. That was clearly a botched pinfall, as Odinson obviously kicked out before the 3 and had his shoulder up on the pinfall. Then on the replay it clearly showed this, and they had Joe Galli tell us the kickout happened after the 3. It didn’t. Just refilm it. It’s a taped show, for goodness sake.

Odinson and Crimson started in the ring, The End quickly took the advantage, using some double team moves. Crimson managed to hit an exploder suplex on Odinson and tagged out to Jax. The War Kings showed their experience with some huge moves hitting Odinson.

Dane and Odinson exchanged chops in the corner to the delight of Joe Galli, who called this a hoss fight, and he wasn’t wrong. Odinson did an AA on his own partner onto Crimson, and that looked like a finishing move, but Dane made the save.

Crimson hit some forearms and a John Woo dropkick on Parrow before tagging out to Dane. Dane ran wild, smashing Odinson with several high impact moves. Dane hit a suplex, and Crimson came off the top with a flying elbow on Odinson. Odinson kicked out, but the ref counted three anyway and the match ended in chaos.

Final Thoughts:

The show went off the air after a botched finish in a tag match that I was actually really enjoying. The match itself was a really good tag match, but the botched finish still being in on a pre taped show is confusing at best, and outright bad at worst. I don’t understand why they didn’t retape it. Aside from the weird main event finish, this week’s episode was quite good overall, especially compared to the debacle of an ending last week.

Thunder Rosa to face Kamille in NWA match with AEW stipulation

Thunder Rosa accepted a match this week on NWA  Power that could see her no longer appearing on AEW and other outside wrestling companies if she loses.

On the show, Kamille accused Rosa of using the NWA for her own selfish purposes, pointing out her appearances on AEW Dynamite. Kamille said she would put her number one contendership to the NWA Women’s title on the line in a 20 minute, one fall match if Rosa would agree that she would not be able to work with any other company if she lost. Rosa agreed, though a date for the match wasn’t established.

Kamille has been number one contender since NWA Back for the Attack on March 21, when she defeated Rosa. Serena Deeb, the NWA Women’s champion, has been out of action since February with a knee injury.

Rosa has appeared regularly on AEW television since last September, with AEW contracted wrestler Deeb defeating Rosa on an episode of UWN Primetime Live to win the NWA Women’s championship. A recent high-profile match on Dynamite saw Rosa defeat Britt Baker in a lights out match.

NWA Power results: Jax Dane vs. Slice Boogie falls count anywhere

Nick Aldis opened the show with Joe Galli and he was not pleased that Billy Corgan made a battle royal for the no. 1 contendership for the NWA World title. Aldis mocked it, saying that it was 14 nobodies in the ring and that he had to find it out from Galli insulted him.

Galli switched focus to the main event and asked about Chris Adonis and Thom Latimer taking on Aron Stevens and Kratos for the Tag Team titles. Aldis said it was only a matter of time before they held the Tag Team titles, the TV title, and the Women’s title as well. Strictly Business wanted all the gold.

Aldis noted that Corgan announced that no current champions could be in the battle royal. Aldis said that presented a problem for his men if they won the tag titles so he pulled Adonis and Latimer from the match, meaning at least Latimer could be in the battle royal which gave an advantage to Strictly Business.

I wasn’t too sure about the end of this promo, which was great up until that point. It implied that Adonis was going to be in it, but he’s a current champion so he can’t. If it ends up that only Latimer is in the match, it makes sense and Aldis just misspoke.

Matt Cross defeated Mims

This was a really solid and quick opener with Mims using his power to overwhelm Cross and Cross using his speed and high flying to try overwhelm Mims. Cross is so great. He sold like crazy and made him look like a million bucks in this match.

Cross went to the middle rope and Mims tripped him, sending him back first into the top turnbuckle. Mims hit a giant spinebuster, but Cross managed to kick out. Mims sent Cross to the ropes, but he rebounded and hit a cutter for the pinfall.

— Tim Storm mentioned the previous match left him out of breath and Galli immediately said “Speaking of out of breath…” as Austin Idol came out with Tyrus (which applies to Idol never losing breath as he speaks and Tyrus being gassed just looking at the ring).

Idol called out The Pope, who said that Idol always hid behind someone like Tyrus so he was surprised that he wanted to talk. Idol said that he really liked what Pope had been doing lately, noting that he was clutching the TV title for all he is worth.

Idol noted that Pope was only four wins away from the Lucky Seven which allows him to challenge for the NWA World title. Idol said he wanted to congratulate Pope in advance and shake his hand. Pope isn’t a dumb babyface, however, and simply nodded and walked away instead.

— Aron Stevens was with May Valentine and spoke about Latimer & Adonis being pulled from the match. He said he needed to focus on whatever challengers step up and he intends to hold onto the tag titles as long as he can. He wants to finish his career in the NWA and to make the most of every chance he has. He admitted that he initially hired Kratos because he was a mercenary that does his job well. He doesn’t always agree with his methods, but he is a great wrestler. While they aren’t always on the same page, they are an effective tag team.

Kratos defeated Sal Rinauro

Before the match, Rinauro called out Kratos and wanted to stand up to “the bully” — no matter what it meant.

Well, poor Sal got murdered in this match. Kratos absolutely destroyed him in less than two minutes in a glorious squash match. After getting beat down, Rinauro managed to slip out of a deadlift suplex and dodge a corner charge. He went for a springboard forearm, but Kratos jumped into the air and hit a huge flying knee, absolutely killing him. Kratos then hit a wheelbarrow suplex for the win.

— Thunder Rosa and Kamille had a summit and Rosa gave a history lesson on women’s wrestling going back to Mildred Burke. This was excellent. Rosa is a superstar and she really carried herself well here, talking about the significance of being the NWA Women’s Champion.

Kamille said she did consider those things, especially when she sees Rosa on another program like AEW Dynamite. She said she has been with the NWA since day one, and that Rosa was only in it for herself and not the good of the NWA women’s division.

Rosa made it clear that she was a person who had to fight for everything she had and was not impressed with the disrespect that Kamille has been showing her. If they faced off again, she would come out on top again.

Kamille said that Rosa always had to brag about how great she is, but Kamille only needed to stand there and people could see it. She said that she wanted perform some charity for Rosa, offering her a match that had to be 20 minutes long. When she loses, she has to give up every booking she has outside of the NWA and she would be forced to see Kamille take the title from Serena Deeb.

Rosa agreed, saying that she would win and continue to help women’s wrestling on a worldwide basis.

Slice Boogie defeated Jax Dane in a falls count anywhere match

Dane and Boogie brawled all over the studio. They exchanged chops, but Dane no sold them and chopped the crap out of Boogie which even made the production guys in the crowd scream in pain. Dane suplexed Boogie on the floor which resulted in several bleeps.

Boogie hit a stun gun on Dane into the bottom rope and apron before setting him up on a chair. Boogie ran at Dane, but Dane popped up and hit a Vader-style tackle and continued to beat on Boogie.

Boogie slammed Dane into the steps face first and went for a dive off the steps, but Dane caught him and drove him into the ringpost. Boogie managed to slip out of an attack and then sent Dane flying face first into the ringpost.

Boogie hit a knee that sent Dane back to the floor, followed by a flying cross body over the top rope that got a two count. Boogie grabbed another chair and smashed it over Dane’s back. As Dane was laying on the floor, Crimson walked out with what looked like a white towel.

Boogie hit another chair shot and Dane rolled into the ring. Boogie wrapped the chair around his head, but Crimson distracted him. Dane threw the chair down and ran at Boogie, but Boogie moved and Dane crashed into Crimson, sending him flying to the floor. Dane went to check on him and threw in the towel for himself, concerned with helping his friend to the back.

The finish was quite bizarre as the NWA seemed to have turned Dane babyface and now are pitching his concern for his tag team partner as the reason why he quit the match. It just felt weird. The match was good though, but I’m not sure about this finish but I want to see where it goes.

— Galli announced that Stevens and Kratos were at the curtain, ready to defend their titles but Strictly Business had already left the building, so the promised main event was cancelled just as Aldis said it would be.

Final Thoughts

This was a good episode of NWA Power in terms of the in-ring action. I was confused about the finish of the main event, but otherwise, everything made sense in terms of where they were going. They kept the stipulation of Trevor Murdoch being off TV for 30 days so far, though I expect him to win the 14-man battle royal in two weeks under a mask as the Midnight Rider.

The promo work from Aldis was, again, excellent. Idol and Rosa were also fantastic in their promos and while I am concerned with a 20-minute match between Rosa and Kamille, it is interesting with the stipulation that Rosa must give up all outside bookings if she loses. I see this ending with Rosa winning, but I’m definitely interested in it.

NWA Power results: Team Murdoch vs. Team Aldis

Nick Aldis opened the show saying that Murdoch should have known what was going to happen if he poked his nose in his business. Aldis said that it was time for Murdoch and Adonis to have a fight one more time, but Kyle Davis implied that Aldis wanted to avoid him and didn’t want Murdoch in the NWA.

Aldis took exception to this, but he did offer a spot to Murdoch, asking him to come out with no funny business. Murdoch came out and said he wasn’t going to take the risk of beating Aldis up right now because he didn’t want to put a shot at a title in jeopardy. Murdoch demanded an apology and was seething at Aldis.

Aldis suggested that there be a six-man tag tonight with Adonis & Latimer with a 3rd man against Murdoch, and if he won, he gets a National title shot. If he loses, he gets suspended for 30 days with no pay. Murdoch said that it was funny that as soon as he started targeting Aldis and his title, he backpedaled on his statements that Murdoch wasn’t worthy of being a champion, but that he didn’t back down from a fight and he was going to take this chance.

Kratos and Sal Rinauro went to a no contest

This was more of an angle than a match, as it set up the mystery man in the main event, and furthered the story that Kratos and Stevens are not getting along. Good angle, bad match.

Poor Sal got beat up badly right from the starting bell, as Kratos used his size to stay on top of Sal. Kratos hit a huge suplex, and May Valentine and Danny Deals came out to try and defend Sal. Deals got chokeslammed, and Kratos continued to pound on Sal as Sal rolled to the ropes and refused to break as the referee ruled it a no contest. Aron Stevens tried to calm Kratos down, but he wouldn’t listen.

Kratos rolled out and walked to the announce desk and got in the face of Tim Storm. Storm stood up and slowly took his headset off. They went face to face, and Storm tried to deescalate the situation as Thom Latimer and Chris Adonis came out and announced that they saw something in Kratos and asked him to be the third man in the main event. Kratos agreed and left ringside as May attended to Sal as Stevens looked on.

Kyle Davis was with Jax Dane and Slice Boogie who are facing off in a No DQ match next week. Boogie talked about how he was just getting wins on top of wins, and Dane lost the last time they were in the ring. For some reason, Boogie was booed in this promo, and Dane was cheered, but I could have sworn it was the other way around before this episode.

NWA World Television Championship: The Pope and Tyrus went to a time limit draw

Austin Idol came out with Tyrus and joined the commentary team, and he was great. Tyrus, however, was not. The Pope tried, that’s all I can really say. This was not a good match. Velvet Sky was really bad on commentary in this match.

The match had the 6:05 time limit, and Tyrus was gassed about 60 seconds into it. Tyrus missed a corner charge, but as Pope went for the Pope Train finish, Austin Idol grabbed his foot and Tyrus hit a corner charge and an elbow for a two-count.

Tyrus locked on a bear hug in a squat position, but couldn’t actually lift Pope out of the position, so he just dropped him and stood up. Pope got up and hit some strikes and an eye poke, which Austin Idol lost his mind over on commentary.

Pope hit a missile dropkick and Idol went back to ringside. Pope hit a crossbody off the apron onto Tyrus. Idol distracted Pope and Tyrus locked on a chokehold as the time limit expired, and Pope was left laying on the outside of the ring.

Thunder Rosa came out and May Valentine informed us that the NWA wanted her and Kamille to end their feud peacefully, so they are requiring advocates to speak on their behalf. Rosa chose Melina, reluctantly, but decided that because of their history, she was the best choice.

Kamille also reluctantly chose Taryn Terrell, who was overjoyed to be picked by Kamille. Melina started and actually cut a good promo about how great Thunder Rosa is, talking about her success in the NWA and AEW. Melina made a good point – Kamille won the number one contendership but has kept going after Rosa, so she was the one that kept this going.

Terrell talked about how Rosa was jealous in the most annoying way possible. Melina suggested that Rosa and Kamille have a rematch since she wasn’t done yet, and puts the #1 contendership on the line.

Terrell said that they would do the match, but there were conditions and they would deliver the list of conditions next week. Melina threw a punch at Terrell, and Rosa tried to get at Kamille as the segment ended.

Team Aldis (Thom Latimer, Chris Adonis, & Kratos) defeated Team Murdoch (Trevor Murdoch, Aron Stevens, & Tim Storm)

This was a heavy heat match and furthered the angle between Murdoch and Aldis. Aldis kept his word and wasn’t involved, but Murdoch still lost and now has to spend 30 days unpaid at home. Not sure what the NWA is going to do with the guy they have been pushing as a top babyface not there. This was a good match.

Murdoch’s partners took their time coming out, and to everyone’s surprise, Aron Stevens joined Murdoch, on the opposite side from his own tag team partner. Sal Rinauro came out, but Tim Storm walked out after and told Rinauro to go to the back.

As the match started, Storm went right for Kratos. Latimer was yelling about how Storm shouldn’t cross them, which seems to be furthering the tension between him and Nick Aldis. Stevens and Kratos were left in the ring, but Stevens didn’t want to fight Kratos, so Tim Storm and Latimer ended up in the ring.

Kratos wanted to fight Stevens, but Stevens was reluctant to face off against his own partner. Stevens went to tag Kratos by instinct once, but soon thereafter went back to his own corner. Sadly, for Stevens, it wasn’t long before they were getting the heat on him.

The heels kept this up for several minutes, with Latimer and Adonis beating on Stevens. Kratos, however, didn’t tag in. He was very joyful seeing Stevens get beat up, but he didn’t tag in right away. Stevens dodged a corner charge from Latimer and managed to make the hot tag to Storm.

Storm ran wild but got distracted when Sal Rinauro got on the apron to cheer storm on, and Adonis took advantage of this and hit a full nelson slam for the pinfall victory. Storm was left laying in the middle of the ring. Kratos refused to help Aron Stevens up as the show went off the air.

Final Thoughts

Trevor Murdoch must go home for 30 days, unpaid now. I asked above, but the question remains: What does the NWA do now without the guy they have positioned in a top babyface role? Will we see a return of the Midnight Rider type angle here with Murdoch? The more I think about it, the more I like that idea.

I’m not sure where they are going to go with this, but having Murdoch appear under a mask and pretend to be someone else could be a really fun 4 weeks, as Murdoch could then outwit Strictly Business leading into the next PPV. If there is no mention of Murdoch on TV, then I think that is a terrible choice, given that they want to push him as a top guy in line for Aldis’ title.

NWA Power results: Trevor Murdoch’s World title quest begins

NWA Power opened with Trevor Murdoch talking to Kyle Davis. He cut one heck of a promo about how he wanted another shot at National Champion Chris Adonis. Murdoch welcomed Adonis into the company and gave him a shot. The thanks he got was Adonis trying to end his career. Murdoch said he would agree to any stipulation in order to get a shot.

NWA World Champion Nick Aldis made his way out instead and said he was the one that really welcomed Murdoch and Adonis and everyone else into the NWA. He was also angry that Murdoch implied it was Aldis’ fault that he was no longer the National Champion. Aldis said Murdoch only had to look into the mirror to see why he wasn’t champion and was too dumb to realize he was being played.

Aldis said Adonis did him a favor because Murdoch isn’t the kind of person that the NWA really wants as champion anyway. He told him to take the night off. Aldis said he was going to take the main event in an exhibition for a young talent and Murdoch could learn from watching it. He said Murdoch would learn that he isn’t championship material, but, if Murdoch stays away from the main event, he might give him an opportunity.

Murdoch said if he was promised a chance at the NWA title, he might not show up. Aldis said that if he doesn’t get involved tonight, they’ll talk. This was absolutely fantastic: a great promo from Aldis and a wonderful babyface performance from Murdoch. I never thought I would want to see these two in a title match, but here we are.

— Sliced Boogie was with May Valentine and he cut a promo on Jax Dane, saying he wanted him one-on-one, having defeated Crimson and Dane (who spent most of the match on the floor). He then continued to flirt with Valentine.

Sal Rinauro defeated Tag Team Champions Aron Stevens & Kratos in a non-title handicap match

This was more a storytelling segment rather than a match in the strictest sense. Tim Storm ended up being the tag partner completely by accident for Rinauro, but I liked how they got there. It looks like we’ll be seeing Storm and Rinaruo challenge for the Tag Team titles soon.

Stevens and Kratos looked confused as Rinauro’s partner hadn’t shown up yet despite Rinauro saying that it was a NWA world champion and he was on his way.

Stevens started the match, keeping Rinauro grounded in the early on. Rinauro wasn’t one to be outwrestled but was soon facing off with Kratos who looked like he wanted to murder him. Kratos beat on Rinauro for a few minutes and then Danny Deals made his way down to ringside, apparently as Rinauro’s partner.

Kratos beat on Deals which made Tim Storm more and more upset on commentary. Kratos beat on Rinauro in the corner and the referee was trying to pull him off. Storm had seen enough and climbed onto the apron to get Stevens to pull him off. Stevens pulled Kratos off and they started arguing, playing back to the last few weeks.

Kratos tried to hit Stevens, but Stevens ducked and Storm blocked the punch, threw one of his own, and Rinauro rolled Kratos up for the pinfall. It looks like Rinauro’s partner is going to be Storm.

— Austin Idol, Tyrus, and TV Champion The Pope were at the podium, Tyrus actually did a lot of talking here and cut a decent promo. He knew Pope for a long time, but Pope was never a guy who was the man. He always had people in front of him and never became the man until Tyrus stepped away from the business. Pope became the TV champion and suddenly, he was the man now.

Tyrus said that Idol was the man that invented that title which is kind of true as the NWA Georgia TV title became the NWA National TV title when Idol won it. However, it’s not the NWA TV title later seen in WCW that became their TV title.

Pope said Tyrus needed to earn his shot and he didn’t seem happy about that. Nevertheless, he reported to the ring for his #1 contender match.

Tyrus defeated Matt Cross & Marshe Rockett in a three-way to become the #1 Contender to the NWA Television Championship

I don’t really have any other way to put this: this match sucked. I try to be positive, but Tyrus was plain awful in this match.

As it started, Joe Galli started to do some Steiner math to calculate the chances of Cross and Rockett which made me laugh. Tyrus did some horrifically terrible offense in as he overpowered Cross and Rockett.

Cross tried really hard to move the glacially slow Tyrus and sold like crazy for him. Tyrus oozed to the floor in slow motion like cold molasses after taking a dropkick from Rockett. That left two guys in the ring that can actually move. Rockett caught Cross in a crossbody which was great.

Cross hit the shooting star press on Rockett, but Tyrus slowly flew in (if you can call it that) with an elbow, shoved Cross off, and pinned Rockett to earn a title shot. This sucked.

— Chris Adonis & Thom Latimer were with May Valentine and said they were targeting the Tag Team titles next and that Murdoch would be nuts to keep trying to come after them.

Kamille defeated Jennacide

This was a decent match and way more competitive than I thought it would be. Jennacide got a lot of offense in and it was clear they wanted her to appear as a legitimate threat which the match accomplished.

There was a test of strength early on that ended relatively even. Jennacide slammed Kamille and then Kamille slammed her. They both exchanged moves for a bit, but Kamille ate a mafia kick in the corner. But as Jennacide hit the ropes, Kamille hit a spinning heel kick.

Jennacide was able to keep pace with Kamille for most of the match, including kicking out of a spear, but a second one finished it for Kamille. Jennacide looked good in defeat and did a decent job raising her own stock. It wasn’t a great match by any stretch, but I think they have something with her and hopefully will find a place for her.

Melina ran down to confront Kamille after the match and got speared, Thunder Rosa came down to ringside and argued with Melina.

NWA World Champion Nick Aldis vs. Jordan Clearwater non-title exhibition was declared a no contest

As the match started, Murdoch, Latimer and Adonis spilled out to ringside brawling all over the place. The numbers were clearly not on Murdoch’s side and Adonis and Latimer threw him into the ring as the referee threw the match out before it started.

Adonis hit a huge full nelson slam on Murdoch and Aldis stood over him, looking disgusted. He high fived Adonis and Latimer as the show went off the air.

Final Thoughts:

This was a decent episode of NWA Power outside of the horrific performance of Tyrus. He did not look good in any respect outside of his promo which is probably the best role for him rather than actually being in the ring. I think the 71-year-old Austin Idol would work a better match.

Murdoch played the perfect babyface and Aldis was the perfect heel on this show. This was easily the highlight and if you watch anything from it, make sure it’s the opening promo and closing angle. Jennacide seems to be someone they see something in, so we shall see what they do going forward.

I’m not sure where the Thunder Rosa and Kamille feud is going. Kamille needs to get her title shot against Serena Deeb soon, but we haven’t seen Deeb on Power yet. She is still injured, but they could have her cut a promo.

Regardless, I never imagined I would be into a feud with Aldis and Murdoch years ago, but here we are. They both performed very well and I’m intrigued to see what is next.

NWA Power results: The Pope vs. Fred Rosser TV Title match

The opening video recapped what happened to Trevor Murdoch last week as Chris Adonis destroyed him to win the NWA National Title. The video package was both fantastic and simple with dramatic music really adding to it. It helped drive home that this was a big injury angle.

Sal Rinauro came out while Aron Stevens was sitting in on commentary and said he has been trying to make a NWA World Tag Team match official, but Stevens was avoiding him. Stevens said Rinauro was promised a match but not a title match. He would be happy to give him a chance if the NWA sanctions a title match and if they don’t, he’ll give him a chance to earn one.

Strictly Business (Thom Latimer and National Champion Chris Adonis) defeated The End (Parrow & Odinson)

This was a solid opening match with the major story that Adonis is now member of Strictly Business despite World Champion Nick Aldis saying that he was just an associate.

Parrow and Odinson used their size and power to stay on top of the new team, using their four years of experience to hit Latimer with a few big double team moves including a fireman’s carry on Parrow by Odinson into a senton on Latimer.

Latimer and Adonis got the heat on Parrow by attacking him on the floor, giving the fight right back to the bigger men. That didn’t last long as Adonis was placed Parrow’s shoulders and The End went for what looked like a doomsday device but Kamille came out to distract the referee.

Latimer shoved Odinson off the top rope to the floor and then shoved Parrow into the ring post while Adonis locked the master lock on Odinson for the submission.

— Thunder Rosa came out after the match to confront Kamille. She cut a promo, mostly in Spanish, about how she was going to kill her. Taryn Terrell then came out and said she wasn’t there to challenge Rosa because she was injured, but she would beat her anyway if they did fight. However, she was there to offer to manage Rosa. Melina came out and told Terrell that if Rosa needed help, she was going to come to her. Rosa said she didn’t need either of them and left.

— May Valentine was with Murdoch who talked about how Strictly Business tried to grind Tim Storm into the ground and that everyone knows how it feels to give it your all and still come up with a loss. He said because of this, he was going to war with Aldis and he was coming for him and not just Adonis. This was a great promo.

Sliced Boogie & Matthew Mims defeated The War Kings (Jax Dane & Crimson)

This was a very basic tag match, but had a good story with Dane getting knocked out early on, hinting at a potential split between the two. This was as old school as you can get as Crimson showed great concern for his partner. After the match when Dane slowly got up, Crimson looked frustrated.

Dane slapped Mims, prompting him to tag in, and Dane made him pay for his anger, hitting a huge belly-to-belly. Crimson threw Mims to the other corner and Boogie tagged in. Crimson beat on Mims for a bit, but when he went for a tag, Boogie pulled Dane off the apron and he crashed face first into it, leaving him on the floor unconscious.

Crimson tried to tag out, but Dane wasn’t there. Boogie hit a big chop block and an elbow on Crimson. Dane was on the floor for quite some time and Velvet Sky rightly asked if someone should come out to check on him. Crimson got more and more worn down by his opponents, but managed to hit a death valley driver as a referee came out to check on Dane. Mims managed to roll up Crimson with a hook of the tights to get the pinfall.

— Aldis was with Kyle Davis and said he was not out there to announce the newest member of Strictly Business, but that he is the person that knows the difference between good and great. He is angry with himself when he is merely good and that the NWA lives by his standard. He holds himself to a higher standard, so you can imagine what it would take to join Strictly Business.

Aldis then announced that no one’s position in Strictly Business is guaranteed and there are positions open in the stable but they just have to prove themselves. He said that every wrestler and every wrestling organization in the world is welcome to come and try to impress him. Aldis is recruiting and no one is safe at the same time. This was an excellent promo and one that set up some interesting possibilities.

NWA World Television Champion The Pope defeated Fred Rosser to retain

Pope managed to stay on top for the first half the match, countering everything that Rosser tried. When Pope missed a flying crossbody from the top rope, Rosser was able to start getting some offense in.

They exchanged some chops, but Pope was able to hit a strike to the stomach and a swinging neckbreaker. He then missed a charge and hit the turnbuckle hard, leading to a two count. Rosser ducked a strike and hit the Gut Check, but Pope managed to roll to the floor to escape. Rosser brought him back in for another near fall. He picked him up, but Pope countered and managed to hit his running double knees in the corner for the pinfall to retain.

As Pope was celebrating, Tyrus and Austin Idol came out and mocked him with false applause, foreshadowing a future match between the two. The show went off the air as Pope celebrated his win.

Final Thoughts:

This was another good episode of NWA Power as their return from hiatus continues to be strong with easily digestible TV shows that move week-to-week with their storytelling. We have several developments with Adonis being announced as a member of Strictly Business while Aldis is still denying there are new members.

We also had Aldis open up the call to anyone from any wrestling company to come to the NWA and try to join his group which makes me wonder if we’re going to see a crossover with another promotion in the near future.

Then, there’s the storyline between Thunder Rosa and Kamille that is advancing slowly with more than one person vying to be Rosa’s manager while she continues to insist she doesn’t need one. It appears that Jax Dane will be turning on Crimson in the near future, The Pope continues to defend his TV Title, and Murdoch has personal business with Strictly Business now.

This was all good, basic storytelling that gives me a reason to tune in next week.

NWA Power results: New National Champion crowned

Nick Aldis opened the show, and said he wanted to discuss an affliction he has been dealing with for a long time – all he knows how to do is win. He doesn’t know how to do anything else, pointing out that he beat Aron Stevens at Back for the Attack, and how Strictly Business won last week too.

Davis asked if Adonis was joining Strictly Business, and Aldis said that they were getting ahead of themselves. As they were talking, Trevor Murdoch came out and confronted Aldis for teaming with him last week after condemning him in the opening promo. Murdoch said that he was in a hospital for a week because of Adonis, and he couldn’t collect pay for his family.

Murdoch demanded another match with Adonis that is no DQ, no countout, and he’ll put the NWA National title on the line. Aldis was offended that Murdoch cut him off, and said the last thing he wants to do if he is worried about missing work is to cross him.

Aldis then reminded him of the number one rule that Harley Race taught them both – never turn your back on your opponent. Chris Adonis came out and attacked Murdoch and beat him down, while Aldis looked on with joy. Referees came out to break it up, and a doctor came out to check on Murdoch.

Fantastic opening segment. Murdoch was able to walk out, but he was clearly hurt again, making this feud even more personal.

**********

Aron Stevens and Kratos were backstage with May Valentine. Stevens talked about Joseph Hudson again, and how he changed his life. Sal Rinauro came onto the screen and asked for a World Tag Team title shot, and Stevens agreed, but said that he better be prepared, as this is the NWA.

Sliced Boogie defeated Jeremiah Plunkett

Good squash match here that further got Sliced Boogie over.

Boogie kept control for most of the match, except for a brief moment with a heat segment from Plunkett. Boogie hit a nice springboard back elbow, but missed a middle rope elbow that allowed Plunkett to get the heat. Plunkett hit a spinebuster for a two count, and then locked in a sleeper on Boogie.

Boogie got out with a back suplex, and nailed Plunkett with a clothesline and a Gotch piledriver (the Deadass Driver) for the pinfall.

**********

Tyrus  (with Austin Idol) defeated Matthew Mims

The wrong guy won this match, as Tyrus worked over Mims with his horrible offense.

Tyrus caught Mims on a crossbody and slammed him before hitting an elbow and locking on the classic NERVE HOLD~! Mims got out and hit a few headbutts to shake Tyrus. Tyrus hit an exploder and a terrible chokeslam for the pinfall.

**********

Fred Rosser and Pope were at the podium. Rosser talked about how Pope was not ready for him because he was taking the TV title. Pope said that he knew Rosser for a long time, and remembered Rosser asking him for advice backstage at shows, which Rosser said off mic that “that was then, this is now”. They formally announced the match as the main event for next week. Great stuff.

**********

Thunder Rosa & Alex Gracia defeated Skye Blue and Jennacide by disqualification

This match was billed as a “Ladies Celebration Match” as Rosa brought in some young talent to the NWA to give them a chance. Blue, Jennacide, and Gracia were all green, but Rosa went out of her way to try and make them all look good.

Skye Blue started the match with Rosa. Blue was clearly green, but there is something there. Rosa rolled with her for some submissions back and forth, staying on top the whole time. Rosa tagged Gracia in, who hit a weak chop on Blue, but Rosa tagged back in and hit one of her own that was brutal.

Rosa and Gracia exchanged quick tags back and forth to keep the advantage. Jennacide was extremely green, but has a unique look and was the biggest woman in the match. She did power moves, including doing some squats while holding Gracia up for a slam. Rosa got the hot tag, but ate a spear from Kamille who ran out for the DQ.

Melina, who was on commentary, came over the ring and started yelling at Kamille. Rosa pulled her away, and as Kamille turned around she came face to face with Jennacide. Both of them were the same size.

**********

Nick Aldis was on commentary for the main event. Joe Galli wanted to address something before the match: would Tim Storm wrestle again? The answer was yes, as Storm is not done yet, but he didn’t want to take away from Aldis as champion and made no excuses – Aldis beat him for the title, even if he doesn’t like how Aldis acts.

Aldis gave a warning to Storm, saying that he was glad that he hadn’t retired, but that he needed to watch his mouth about him and Strictly Business. Looks like we might be getting Aldis and Storm one more time down the line, which I am perfectly fine with.

No DQ: Chris Adonis defeated Trevor Murdoch to win the NWA National title

The story of the match was that Murdoch had an injured neck, so while he was tough, he had little chance against the uninjured Adonis. It was a fast match, but told a great story.

Murdoch came out wearing a neck brace, which Aldis asked if it were wise for him to wrestle with that on. Adonis slammed Murdoch on the floor, as Aldis talked about how Murdoch shouldn’t be out there due to the injury, even though he played a role in it happening.

Adonis worked over the neck for the next few minutes, locked on the Masterlock and hit a full nelson slam. Adonis then picked him up and locked on the Masterlock again, and Murdoch passed out, becoming the new champion via ref stoppage.

Aldis said that this made Adonis an associate of Strictly Business, and that he wanted to celebrate the success of Adonis. Tim Storm looked on in disgust as the show closed.

Final Thoughts:

Really solid episode of NWA Power here, with lots of storylines being hinted at for the future. The one that compels me the most is the real tension we can see between Tim Storm and Nick Aldis. It’s clear Storm is disgusted by the heelish actions of Aldis, but it hasn’t gotten to the point of where he is willing to fight.

I think this is a classic slow burn, where we will see Tim Storm leave the announce desk to take on Strictly Business eventually, possibly ending with Nick Aldis and Tim Storm wrestling for the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship one last time. I loved this.

I also loved how they’re positioning Thunder Rosa as someone that wants to give new talent a shot on every show. She’s a wonderful babyface, in contrast to Kamille, who selfishly wants all the attention on her.

Lots of good stuff on this episode with future feuds being developed. I’m excited for what the NWA has in store for us down the line.

NWA Power results: Aldis, Latimer & Adonis vs. Pope, Stevens & Kratos

The NWA returned on Fite.TV for their first new edition of Power since May 12th.

Joe Galli opened the show with Tim Storm and Velvet Sky on commentary.

Strictly Business interview

Kyle Davis was with Strictly Business (NWA World Champion Nick Aldis, Thom Latimer and Kamille) who were talking about how they had a six-man tag coming up, but were short a wrestler. Latimer wanted to talk about his Sunday draw with TV Champion The Pope, saying that Pope couldn’t call himself a real champion.

Kamille then talked about becoming the number 1 contender for the Women’s championship and that the podium might not be able to hold all the gold they will be carrying when she wins. Latimer cut off a question to Aldis and ranted about Pope again. Aldis then spoke about how NWA Power was back and it was cause to celebrate.

Aldis said that he didn’t condone the type of behavior that Chris Adonis did with National champion Trevor Murdoch as he is only about Strictly Business. Aldis said he had a broom as a prop and wanted to talk about the clean sweep at Back for the Attack, but Latimer didn’t get what he deserved as he should be TV champ. He also promised that Kamille would be Women’s champion. This was fantastic.

We then got a highlight video promoting the replay of Sunday’s Back for the Attack pay-per-view.

Kamille defeated Alex Gracia

This was a great squash and highlighted Kamille well. The match with Thunder Rosa from Sunday was good, but too long. This is the kind of match Kamille needs to highlight her right now. Gracia went after Kamille quickly, but countered a hurricanrana attempt with a massive power bomb. Kamille said, “That’s going to make a GIF right there” which was a great line. She applied a torture rack on Gracia and sent her crashing to the mat. Kamille hit a spear soon thereafter for the pinfall.

The Pope interview segment

TV Champion The Pope was with Davis and talked about how he wasn’t happy with the way he retained his title in the aforementioned draw. But, he did survive and that means he successfully defended his title regardless. He said that he was aiming to have six more successful defenses so that he would have seven wins and would be able to challenge for the NWA World title.

He said that he was going to go out there week in and week out to defend it and fight, but everyone who comes for him better be ready. This was a great promo. As he was talking, Austin Idol came out with Tyrus and cut a promo on Pope, saying he was lucky to stand on the same set as him.

Idol announced Tyrus as his new client and promised to take him to the top and that he was going to eat Pope alive. Idol said, “I made Nick Aldis and if it wasn’t for me, he wouldn’t be NWA champion” and promised to make Tyrus the next NWA World champion. Tyrus said that Pope probably had questions, but to get answers, he has to go through Idol and they left.

Fred Rosser defeated Matt Cross & Marshe Rockett to become the #1 contender to the TV title

This was a fast paced triple threat and a very good match.

Within the first few seconds, Pope (out for commentary) called Rosser “Darren Young” which made me laugh. Cross was disregarded early on due to him being smaller than the other two, but he made them pay with a springboard crossbody to Rockett.

As the match went on, Galli did some excellent commentary, talking about Rockett’s 20-year career, having wins over Rhino and Mustafa Ali, which helped us believe this new guy is legit. Rockett hit a big powerslam on Cross and all three men were left on the mat.

Cross hit a cutter on Rockett and Rosser followed it up with a legdrop on Rockett before going after Cross. Cross missed a shooting star press on Rosser, but he rolled through and hit a forearm on Rockett to send him to the floor. As Cross turned around, Rosser hit a Gut Check on Cross for the pinfall.

— Boogie Slice was backstage with May Valentine. He said he didn’t come to the NWA for just one match at Back for the Attack, but he did start his NWA career right, going 1-0 so far. He said he didn’t have his eyes on anyone in particular, but will fight anyone. He then flirted with Valentine.

Mike Parrow defeated Jordan Clearwater

Clearwater got no offense in this as Parrow crushed him in a few minutes. Parrow immediately charged Clearwater in the corner and hit a full nelson slam. He then crushed Clearwater with a senton as Galli said Parrow was a walking monster movie in a great line. Parrow hit an over the shoulder sitout piledriver for the pin after a few minutes to finish a good squash.

Thunder Rosa interview segment

Thunder Rosa came out and said she wanted to get her championship back. She was disappointed that she lost at Back for the Attack, but that she wasn’t done and thought it was disgusting that NWA might have Kamille as the face of the company.

Melina came out and said that while she and Rosa had their differences, she kept track of her and was still so proud for all that she has done. She knew how it hurt to lose, that it’s hard to come back, and that if she ever needed someone there for her, she was there.

Rosa said Melina paved the road for her and was quite flattered that Melina was offering her help, but she could still do things on her own. Melina said if she ever needed anything, she would be there and even offered to manage her. Rosa said that the past was the past and she earned what she did because she worked hard, but she didn’t think that she needed Melina’s help. This was another great segment and pushed forward some interesting storylines.

Strictly Business (World Champion Nick Aldis & Thom Latimer) & Chris Adonis defeated TV Champion The Pope and Tag Team Champions Aron Stevens & Kratos

This was a very good main event that helped push several stories forward, especially with Stevens’ new babyface role clashing with his tag partner which was very well done.

Aldis condemned Adonis’ actions against Trevor Murdoch earlier in the show, but welcomed him as a tag partner here which Storm pointed out. The hypocrisy of the heels shone through here in a very easy to understand way.

Stevens started the match with Adonis, hitting a big clothesline and a belly-to-belly, but took an eye poke and was beaten down by Latimer. They got the heat on Stevens for the next few minutes, keeping him grounded and away from his corner with cheap tactics and good tag team wrestling.

Stevens kept trying to fight back, but kept getting grounded. Kratos yelled, “Are you kidding me?” as Stevens got beaten down, looking very upset that his partner was failing. Stevens swept the leg of Latimer and hit a DDT. Stevens managed to tag out to Pope and Kratos looked disappointed. Pope ran wild, hitting a big splash in the corner and a flying forearm on Adonis.

Pope hit a double DDT on Adonis and Latimer and a running bulldog on Adonis, but Aldis cut him off. Latimer tried to bring a chair into the ring, but Pope stepped on it, crushing Latimer’s hands. Adonis hit a spinebuster on Pope, but Kratos came in and took his head off with a clothesline.

Aldis tried to lock on a clover leaf on Pope, but ate a superkick from Stevens when he did. Pope hit the STO on Adonis, but Kratos blind tagged in as Pope was arguing with the referee. Kratos grabbed a chair and tried to kill Adonis with it, but Stevens pulled the chair away. Adonis rolled him up with a handful of tights for the win.

In the post match, Stevens said that Kratos didn’t need the chair to win and handed him his title back, saying that they weren’t going to wrestle that way. Kratos said that Stevens should have let him do it and the show went off the air with conflict between the two.

Final Thoughts:

This was an excellent episode and return for NWA Power.

NWA returning with Back for the Attack PPV, new Power episodes

The National Wrestling Alliance is set to return later this month on FITE TV with new episodes of NWA Power and a new pay-per-view event, Back for the Attack.

In an interview with the Associated Press, NWA owner Billy Corgan announced that Back for the Attack will air on FITE on March 21, with new episodes of NWA Power starting on March 23. FITE will also offer Back for the Attack to cable and satellite providers. Power will be on FITE via a low-cost subscription bundle. All events for the NWA going forward will be without fans, and without artificial crowd noise.

The article noted that the videos removed from the NWA’s YouTube account over the weekend was a part of the move to FITE.

“We were never in any financial peril,” Corgan said. “We were totally on a growth pattern. The plan for last year before things kind of hit the skids was to start pivoting. We were in discussions with Live Nation about running live events to help bring in revenue and expand who was watching the product. It was more about growing pains stuff, but we didn’t have any problems internally with the product.”

The NWA spent most of 2020 shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the last new episode of Power airing on January 26. In the fall, some of the NWA talent appeared on UWN Primetime Live. However, those shows were put on hold back in December due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NWA holding March tapings, news on video content coming this week

Dave Meltzer reported on Saturday’s Wrestling Observer Radio that the NWA will hold a set of TV tapings from March 21-24 as they resume original content.

Meltzer also said “a positive announcement” that doesn’t have anything to do with AEW is coming this week in regard to all of their content being pulled off of YouTube. He didn’t say where the tapings are taking place or if fans will be allowed, but Atlanta, GA, has been their home since relaunching in October 2019.

Their last set of tapings was held in late-January 2020 and helped carry the company for weekly YouTube episodes from late-January through March. The last original Power episode was a one-off that aired in mid-May.

A lot has changed for Billy Corgan’s company since then. They struck up a deal with both AEW and UWN to have their champions appear and defend their titles, most notably the Women’s title currently held by AEW roster member Serena Deeb. Former champion Thunder Rosa has been a fixture in AEW since late-August.

Unless they have worked out an affiliation agreement with another group, the roster will look different than their last set of tapings which featured Rosa, Eli Drake, Eddie Kingston, Caleb Konley, James Storm, Tasha Steelz, and the late Joseph “Jocephus” Hudson who passed away last week.

Billy Corgan gives update on return of NWA Power

The NWA could soon be returning with weekly content.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the NWA’s Billy Corgan marked the one-year anniversary of the company’s first NWA Power tapings. Corgan wrote that they’re currently talking about bringing NWA Power back very soon, even if fans can’t be in attendance yet:

One year ago, we shot our first episode of NWA POWERRR; suffice to say it’s been a crazy ride ever since. From trending #1 world wide on our debut to successful PPV’s to having to stop many plans (including the Crockett Cup) due to the plague, to Rosa appearing with the NWA Women’s Championship on @allelitewrestling to now adding our voice to the collective that is Prime Time Live on the @unitedwrestlingnetwork, I can only say to our great fans ‘hang in there’. We are currently talking about bringing back POWERRR very soon, even if it means we can’t have fans in the stands because we just want to get back to work. But it’s nice to see our friend and former champion Tim Storm here. If anyone can lead us out of this, it’s a man or woman like him: who gives it all he or she’s got even when the chips are done. That sounds more grim than I mean it, ’cause yeah: still here, still kicking, and ready to get ready to rock…

NWA Power made its debut in October 2019, with the weekly series premiering on YouTube and Facebook at 6:05 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesdays.

The NWA announced this March that they were temporarily suspending events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They’ve partnered with the United Wrestling Network for Primetime Live, with the weekly pay-per-view series kicking off last month. This week’s Prime Time Live saw Trevor Murdoch defeat Aron Stevens to become the new NWA National Champion.
