Trish Adora to challenge for MLW Women’s Featherweight title at Fightland

In her debut for the promotion, Trish Adora is getting a shot at the MLW Women’s Featherweight Championship.

MLW has announced that Adora will challenge Taya Valkyrie for the Women’s Featherweight Championship at this Sunday’s Fightland tapings in Philadelphia. The tapings are being held at the 2300 Arena.

Adora is a United States Army veteran. She was one of the standout performers in the ROH women’s division before ROH went on hiatus at the end of 2021.

Adora has made several appearances on AEW Dark, including unsuccessfully challenging Mercedes Martinez for the ROH Women’s Championship earlier this year. Adora was also part of a six-woman tag match on AEW Rampage this April

Valkyrie was crowned the inaugural MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion this May.

Taya Valkyrie to defend Women’s Featherweight title at MLW Fightland

The MLW Women’s Featherweight Championship will be defended at Fightland.

MLW revealed on Wednesday that champion Taya Valkyrie will put her belt on the line in an open challenge.

“Who will step up and attempt to dethrone the globetrotting luchadora and take the Women’s World Featherweight Championship?” MLW’s press release reads. “It’s the question on everyone’s mind following MLW Matchmaker Cesar Duran throwing a curveball into the FIGHTLAND card with an open contract title fight for Taya Valkyrie.”

Valkyrie became the first-ever MLW Featherweight champion when she defeated Holidead to win the title at Kings Of Colosseum on May 13, 2022.

The Sunday, October 30th TV taping will be held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

Joining former ECW veteran Little Guido in this iteration is “The Grinder” Ray Jaz as the two will take on Juicy Finau & Lance Anoa’i for the first time ever.

Jaz, a Northeast U.S. wrestler who has appeared on AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation before, will be making his promotional debut. This will be Guido’s second-ever MLW match with his first coming in June’s Battle Riot IV match. Finau, Anoa’i and group leader Jacob Fatu are MLW regulars.

The “new era British Bulldogs” are coming to MLW this month.

The promotion announced Thursday that Davey Boy Smith Jr. and his cousins Thomas & Mark Billington will take on Alex Kane, Myron Reed & Mr. Thomas at their Fightland event in Philadelphia on Sunday, October 30th.

The Billingtons are the nephews of Dynamite Kid (Tom Billington).

Smith Jr. is no stranger to MLW, having won the 2019 Opera Cup tournament. He wrapped up with the company at the end of 2020, failing to unseat then-MLW Champion Jacob Fatu and losing to Low Ki in the first round of that year’s Opera Cup tournament.

The match is the fifth addition to the card that will be taped for future episodes of Fusion:

  • Jacob Fatu vs. Lio Rush

Mance Warner will take on nZo (aka Real 1) in singles competition on the show. MLW Fightland will take place Sunday, October 30 from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The event will be taped for future episodes of MLW Fusion.

A Last Man Standing match featuring Alex Hammerstone defending the MLW World Heavyweight Championship against EJ Nduka has already been announced for the show. Other advertised matches include Jacob Fatu vs. Lio Rush and Willie Mack vs. Calvin Tankman.

MLW hasn’t released a new episode of Fusion since July but recently announced a streaming deal with Pro Wrestling TV. New episodes of the promotion’s flagship show will air on the service on Thursdays at 8 p.m Eastern time. Fusion will continue to air on BeIN TV on Saturdays. It is not known if the show will continue on YouTube.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. returning to MLW at Fightland

For the first time since 2020, Davey Boy Smith Jr. is returning to MLW.

MLW has announced that Smith will return to the promotion at its Fightland tapings in Philadelphia this month. The tapings are being held at the 2300 Arena on Sunday, October 30.

Smith is a former MLW Tag Team Champion and the winner of the 2019 Opera Cup tournament. After losing in the first round of the 2020 Opera Cup, it was announced that Smith had departed the promotion. MLW’s Court Bauer said at the time:

Davey Boy’s exit in the opening round of the Opera Cup marks the end of this chapter for DBS in MLW. I have immense gratitude for (Davey) and his contributions inside the MLW ring over the past 2 ½ years. The MLW system was a great fit for him. Winning the 2019 Opera Cup as well as his run as a World Tag Team Champion. A certified beast. Davey Boy Smith Jr. is the real deal and I wish him luck with whatever comes next.

Smith returned to WWE in 2021 but ended up never making a televised appearance for the company. He was released by WWE in November 2021.

This June, Smith won the NWA Tag Team titles with Doug Williams. They had to vacate the titles in August after Smith wasn’t able to compete at NWA 74 due to an illness.

The updated card for the MLW Fightland tapings is listed below:

Last Man Standing World title match set for MLW Fightland

The MLW World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line in a Last Man Standing match at Fightland 2022.

It was announced today that Alex Hammerstone will defend his MLW World Heavyweight title against EJ Nduka at Fightland on Sunday, October 30. The match will air on a future episode of MLW Fusion.

Hammerstone’s World title reign recently reached the one-year mark. At last year’s Fightland, he defeated Jacob Fatu to become MLW World Heavyweight Champion.

Nduka is also a champion in MLW. He currently holds the MLW Tag Team titles with Calvin Tankman. They won the titles from 5150 at MLW’s SuperFight tapings this February.

The Fightland tapings are being held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Three matches have been announced for the event thus far:

MLW Fightland (Sunday, October 30) —

  • Last Man Standing match: MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against EJ Nduka
  • Jacob Fatu vs. Lio Rush
  • Willie Mack vs. Calvin Tankman

Lio Rush vs. Jacob Fatu set for MLW Fightland

Former MLW World Champion Jacob Fatu will take on former MLW Middleweight Champion Lio Rush in a clash of styles at this month’s Fightland.

This will be the first time they have ever squared off in any match.

The TV taping will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, October 30th.

This will be Rush’s first MLW action since the spring of 2021 when he wrestled four matches on Fusion as part of their closed taping era. His last appearance was in a Middleweight title loss to Myron Reed.

Fatu has competed on MLW’s last two TV tapings, but the matches have yet to air anywhere. The company has yet to return to the air after taking a summer hiatus with a Monday PWInsider report claiming they are holding off on a return “pending the finalization of several new deals they are working on.”

Rush announced last Thursday that he was cleared to return to the ring after being out of action since January when he suffered an injury at PWG’s BOLA tournament. He has already been announced for this month’s RevPro British J-Cup.

The match is the second announced for Fightland, joining Calvin Tankman vs. Willie Mack.

Calvin Tankman vs. Willie Mack set for MLW Fightland

MLW has announced its first match for Fightland 2022.

One-half of the MLW Tag Team Champions, Calvin Tankman, will face Willie Mack in singles competition.

“When we announced Willie was coming to MLW, we saw a wave of requests for this match, and what the fans want, they get,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer. “Styles make fights and both men can rumble on their feet and in the air, which makes this one hell of a throwdown.”

It will be Mack’s second match with the promotion after having made his debut last month in El Paso, Texas.

MLW Fightland takes place Sunday, October 30 from Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena. The event will be filmed for future episodes of Fusion.

Other talent advertised to appear include MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone, MLW World Women’s Featherweight Champion Taya Valkyrie, Jacob Fatu & The Samoan SWAT Team, Mance Warner, Alex Kane & The BOMAYE Fight Club, EJ Nduka, and Shun Skywalker.

MLW Fightland announced for Philadelphia

Days after removing one TV taping from their schedule, MLW has added another as they will return to Philadelphia on Sunday, October 30th for Fightland.

The show, set for the 2300 Arena, will be a taping for Fusion.

While no matches were announced, MLW Champion Alex Hammerstone, MLW Women’s Champion Taya Valkyrie, Jacob Fatu, Mads Krugger, and Mance Warner will appear.

Last week, MLW changed their August 27th Fury Road taping to a house show, citing that the local promoter wasn’t bringing in as much talent as promised.

Their next event is Super Series, a TV taping with AAA for Sunday, September 18th, headlined by Hammerstone vs. Bandido for the MLW title.

Last year’s Fightland was also at the 2300 Arena and was headlined by Hammerstone defeating Fatu for the MLW title, ending his two year run as champion. It also featured the quarterfinals of the Opera Cup tournament.

Fusion returns in September with footage from late-June’s Battle Riot IV taping.

Alexander Hammerstone, Tajiri win MLW championships at Fightland

MLW National Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone captured the World title from Jacob Fatu in the main event of Fightland Thursday, becoming the promotion’s first-ever double champion.

Hammerstone, boasting a 859-day reign as the National Openweight titleholder, went head-to-head with Fatu in a title vs. title match and after a 20-minute match, the finish saw Hammerstone pinning Fatu after hitting his signature neckbreaker.

The two titans of MLW have been building to a match for multiple years as both had run through their respective sides of the roster. Hammerstone earned the title shot with his win at Battle Riot III in July.

Thursday’s show also saw another title change as Tajiri won the Middleweight title in a four-way match that featured champion Myron Reed, Arez and Aramis. Tajiri, debuting in MLW, pinned Reed after spraying him with green mist and hitting him with a buzzsaw kick.

The win ends the second title reign for Reed. He regained the title from Lio Rush earlier this year.

Thursday also saw the announcement that Will Ospreay will be debuting for MLW this fall.

MLW Fightland results: Jacob Fatu vs. Hammerstone title vs. title match

For the first time, MLW airs new content on Vice TV with Fightland, a two match special featuring National Openweight Champion Alex Hammerstone attempting to dethrone the longest-reigning MLW World Champion Jacob Fatu in a no DQ, title vs. title match.

Middleweight champion Myron Reed will also put his gold on the line in a four-way match against Ares, Aramis and the debuting Tajiri.

These matches were taped in Philadelphia last Saturday.

Tajiri defeated Aramis, Arez, and Myron Reed (c) in a four-way to win the Middleweight title

The Philadelphia fans paid tribute to Tajiri by chanting his name before the action started and his three opponents took turns shaking the Japanese legend’s hand until it came to Arez who shook it but then grabbed Tajiri in a full nelson. From there, the match exploded into action as Tajiri kicked off his competitors kickstarted an open and exciting match.

The early going was filled with each man finding their feet and looking for the upper hand. Reed hit his slingshot legdrop from the apron into the ring that got a nice ovation. What followed was a series of no less than six dives — each one going higher and higher as they worked their way through and then over the top rope. Aramis then finished it off with a top rope moonsault.

Reed hit a flying ace crusher on Aramis over the top rope onto Tajiri and Arez on the floor. He then hit his springboard 450 splash finisher on Aramis, but Tajiri broke the count before he hit him with his own brainbuster. Tajiri had Aramis in the tarantula while Arez kicked at him. Moments later, they reversed rolls as Arez had Reed in a Boston crab on the top rope while Tajiri kicked away at him.

Aramis and Arez similarly had some fluid exchanges to their great match on Fusion: Alpha two weeks ago. More dives ensued.

Arez came off the top with a big splash onto Aramis, but Reed caught him mid-air and hit a cutter as he landed. The champion followed up with an air raid crash which was broken up by Tajiri.

Reed then countered a Tajiri brainbuster with his cutter. But in the aftermath, the referee got momentarily distracted which gave Tajiri the opening to spray green mist into Reed’s eyes. He then took out Aramis on the apron with a handspring before taking Reed’s head off with a buzzsaw kick to pick up the pinfall win and the Middleweight title.

— Via a CONTRA video package, Mads Krugger told Hammerstone that the black flag of CONTRA will be draped over him tonight. We then cut to live footage of Krugger and the Sentai Death Squad intimidating crew members to find out where Hammerstone was.

Later in the night, we cut back to Krugger and the Death Squad who had apparently found Hammerstone’s locker room, but when they opened the doors, they were attacked by the rest of the MLW locker room. A huge brawl ensued and then one of Cesar Duran’s masked men closed the door and padlocked it. The camera then cut to Duran who told us that CONTRA would not ruin his upcoming World title fight.

— It was announced that Will Ospreay will debut for MLW this fall.

— Alicia Atout hosted MLW Embedded which is a panel talk show with Raj Giri, Andreas Hale, Emilio Sparks and our very own Dave Meltzer. Atout said that they were not afraid to ruffle feathers and they jumped right into the speculation of WWE being up for sale because of their recent releases of talent. Meltzer opened the discussion, citing the Peacock deal as being evidence of them being open to making money from bigger companies.

Giri continued, saying their tone has changed and they are “open for business.” However, Hale said it was more about cleaning the books rather than prepping for a sale, saying that with the amount of talent they have, they need to eventually let some go. Sparks had a similar opinion, saying that a lower financial commitment to talent would help them when it came time to renegotiate their current deals. Potential buyers were then brought up: CAA, Nick Khan’s former employer, Fox and NBCU were mentioned.

They then brought up AEW and their recent signings. Hale said he thinks Kevin Owens will be the next big signing as they mentioned his contract is up in January. Giri thought Bray Wyatt would be next and Sami Zayn’s name was mentioned as well. Atout then brought up MLW’s big news with Ospreay debuting. Meltzer called him top-tier and one of the most talented wrestlers in the business today. The excitement is building towards potential opponents: Myron Reed and Jacob Fatu were named and I’m sure the excitement will only build as we countdown to November 6th.

National Openweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defeated Jacob Fatu to win the MLW World Heavyweight title in a title vs. title match

With CONTRA and the Sentai Death squad locked away, it gave us more of an even playing field for this highly anticipated match (and a storyline reason why there was no CONTRA interference with the no disqualification rule).

This match has been building since before the world went into lockdown. Hammerstone has been ranked no. 1 for a long time and Josef Samael even went as far as to change Fatu’s contract status to be able to block any challenge and hand pick Fatu’s challengers. Hammerstone then had to win the 40-man Battle Riot III earlier this year to get his title match and finally get a chance to win the ultimate prize.

Hammerstone started quick, but Fatu quickly regained control. Hammerstone showed his strength by hitting a pair of overhead belly-to-belly suplexes but Fatu regained control with a big swinging uranage.

The action spilled to the floor with Fatu hitting a moonsault off the guardrail to the adulation of the Philly crowd. Fatu then hit a piledriver on the ring apron as the World champion looked in complete control. Hammerstone was out on his feet, falling to the floor before Fatu launched him headfirst into a chair in the corner. Fatu then hit an incredible coast-to-coast chair assisted dropkick.

In recent months, Hammerstone has been mimicking Hulk Hogan and he pulled out a trademark Hogan-style comeback here as Fatu applied the dreaded nerve hold. Hammerstone hulked up and hit a belly-to-back suplex. He continued suplexing Fatu with an exploder into the corner before hitting a big pump kick for a close near fall.

Hammerstone’s knee momentarily gave way when he hit another pump kick, but he shook it off and immediately hit an overhead German suplex and a sit-out powerbomb.

Back from the break, Fatu was back in control and hit his pop-up Samoan drop. The heavyweight champion then came off the top with a high angle senton bomb and followed up with a suicide dive after Hammerstone cleverly (or so he thought) rolled to the floor.

Hammerstone’s knee was troubling him, but it didn’t stop him from hitting a pescado to the floor as the string of amazing moves for men of their size continued. Hammerstone then went to the top himself and hit his missile dropkick slamming Fatu into the opposite corner.

They both staggered to the center of the ring and went nose-to-nose, receiving a standing ovation. A strike exchange ensued which Hammerstone looked to be winning until he headbutted Fatu in a pro wrestling faux pas.

Hammerstone was knocked to the outside where Samael spiked him in the throat behind the referee’s back. Fatu set up a table in the ring, laid Hammerstone across it, and draped a CONTRA flag over him. Fatu hit his double jump moonsault, a move that I can’t remember anyone kicking out of and a move that has helped him to ten successful title defenses so far, but this time, the challenger kicked out.

The first and only National Openweight champion fired up. He blocked three Fatu right hands and rocked the champion with three of his own. A big clothesline followed which floored the Samoan Bulldozer, but only momentarily. Fatu was not done and nipped up to his feet. The two gladiators went face to face again with neither showing any give.

Fatu hit the ropes and ducked a clothesline but was caught with a powerslam from Hammerstone. Hammerstone then hoisted Fatu on his shoulders and hit a TKO neck breaker for the pin, ending the two-year reign of Fatu. Confetti fell from the ceiling as Hammerstone broke down, celebrating the biggest win of his career so far.

Fatu vs. Hammerstone title vs. title match set for MLW Fightland

MLW announced Thursday that Jacob Fatu will defend his World title against top challenger and National Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone in a title vs. title match on October 2nd.

The match will be the main event of Fightland, set for October 2nd in Philadelphia, PA. The show will also be a MLW Fusion TV taping and the second of three straight events MLW is holding at the 2300 Arena.

Fatu has been champion since July 2019 when he defeated Tom Lawlor for the title. Since then, he’s defended the title ten times, last beating Matt Cross at the Battle Riot III tapings in July.

Hammerstone earned the shot by winning the Battle Riot III match held in July, continuing a long-running storyline of chasing Fatu for the title. He’s the inaugural Openweight Champion, having won the title in June 2019 in a tournament final over Brian Pillman Jr. He has 15 title defenses since then, last defeating Lawlor at the July tapings.
