WWE Champion ‘blacked out’ during her debut

WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Maxxine Dupri has opened up about her in-ring debut story.

A couple of years ago, Maxxine Dupri joined forces with Chad Gable and Otis as a part of The Alpha Acamedy. Predominantly a vocal character, Dupri made her in-ring debut back on the July 3rd episode of RAW against The VIking Raiders. Despite her victory as a part of the team, Dupri recently recalled about ‘blacking out’ during the bout. Speaking to Huge Pop!, she said,

My favorite thing is when people would say to me, at a meet and greet, like, ‘oh, I just love how you like are able to play this like character that doesn’t know how to wrestle’, and I always say, ‘I am honored that you think I’m that talented’, I wish I knew exactly what I was doing and every mistake and every moment was a joke and I was in on the joke, but no, my first match in front of an audience was on Monday Night Raw.

Like, that was crazy. I actually- I remember nothing. I completely blacked out. I was so nervous, I almost threw up after because I don’t think I took one single breath for four minutes straight. Like the math was probably a minute, but I’m saying four minutes, like at the time the music hit, like I stopped breathing,” she continued.

“I was like, I don’t know what’s happening, but I have to survive this. It was crazy. It’s just, it’s been a beautiful thing getting to go on that ride with the WWE universe. Obviously there was moments where I wish I was more advanced and like could have more control in certain scenarios, but that’s just part of my story.”

Despite her lack of experience when compared to the WWE locker room, Maxxine Dupri has come a long way. She recently defeated Becky Lynch to crown herself the reigning Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

Maxxine Dupri addresses her WWE Championship win

Earlier this month, just days after Championship win at the Madison Square Garden, Maxxine Dupri reflected on her victory. Sharing the vlog on YouTube, Dupri said,

“I dunno how we got here. I think I saw my whole life flash before my eyes in that moment. The sound of the crowd was the best thing that I’ve ever experienced in my whole life. It was so electric and I think I finally understand when people are like, this is addicting. I’m fiending for it already. New York was, like, the best place for this to happen. I couldn’t be happier, I can’t believe this is real life.”

Maxxine Dupri comments on her Intercontinental Championship win.

After defeating Becky Lynch in a shock win this past Monday, Dupri reflected on her title win in a vlog that was published on Sunday, saying she couldn’t be happier.

“I dunno how we got here. I think I saw my whole life flash before my eyes in that moment,” she said. “The sound of the crowd was the best thing that I’ve ever experienced in my whole life. It was so electric and I think I finally understand when people are like, this is addicting. I’m fiending for it already. New York was, like, the best place for this to happen. I couldn’t be happier, I can’t believe this is real life.”

The vlog showed Dupri training at the WWE Performance Center days before the match, as well as the aftermath following it including taking a picture with Triple H and celebrating with her friends and family.

Leading to their match on Monday, Dupri had defeated Lynch twice, once by count out and the other by disqualification. On their third match, Lynch was looking to use a nearby turnbuckle when suddenly AJ Lee arrived. The distraction allowed Dupri to climb the top rope and hit a crossbody on Lynch, pinning her to win her first championship in WWE.

Maxxine Dupri reflects on WWE Women’s Intercontinental title win

More than 24 hours later, Maxxine Dupri still can’t find the words to describe how much her first WWE title win means to her.

Dupri became the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion with a victory over Becky Lynch on Monday night’s Raw at Madison Square Garden. A distraction by AJ Lee led to the finish, with Dupri hitting a top rope crossbody for the three count after Lynch’s attention was turned away.

The new champion sent out a post on Instagram this morning thanking all of the people who helped her achieve this milestone. Dupri thanked her parents, her fiance Anthony Luke, and everyone who has helped her improve her in-ring ability.

“I thought I would wake up today with the words to describe what Monday night meant to me, but alas here I am never wanting to wake up from this dream,” Dupri wrote.

“Madison Square Garden, I LOVE YOU. WWE Universe, I LOVE YOU. @thedungeon2.0, I LOVE YOU. @flatbackstraining, I LOVE YOU. [Shane Helms], I LOVE YOU. The Performance Center, I LOVE YOU. My Alpha Babes, I LOVE YOU. [Anthony Luke], I LOVE YOU. My day one support crew (you know who you are), I LOVE YOU. [AJ Lee], I LOVE YOU. My insanely supportive parents, I LOVE YOU.

“This win is so much bigger than me – I wouldn’t be here without EVERY single person that guided me along the way. And now it’s back to the lab, because I never want to let go of this feeling. We have so much more work to do. Thank you for being on this ride with me.”

Getting extra reps in the ring is something that Dupri has prioritized — and it has helped her become one of the most improved wrestlers of 2025. She’s trained at the WWE Performance Center, the Dungeon with Natalya and TJ Wilson, and the Flatbacks school that Shawn Spears and Tyler Breeze own.

Winning a championship was a huge goal for Dupri, but her main focus is getting to the point where she feels fully comfortable and confident in her abilities. In addition to working hard in training, Dupri has appeared on NXT house shows in mixed tag team matches with her fiance Luke.

Becky Lynch responds to AJ Lee’s WWE Raw return: ‘Clearly a case of corruption’

Becky Lynch believes AJ Lee’s Raw return was ‘clearly a case of corruption’.

During the November 17th edition of Raw at the Madison Square Garden in New York, fans witnessed Maxxine Dupri defeat Becky Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Following AJ Lee’s return and interference, Dupri was able to keep Lynch down for the three count. Now, Lynch has finally responded to Lee’s involvement on social media.

Uploading a brief video alongside a lengthy caption, The Man called out WWE management and Lee for allegedly coordinating the return. Instead of breaking character, Lynch maintained kayfabe and called out the entire situation as a ‘clear case of corruption’. Lynch further called out the ‘crooked referee’ and opened up about hiring lawyers.

She wrote, “LET’S NOT FORGET AJ LEE’S MUSIC & THE LED BOARDS. THOSE THINGS DON’T JUST MAGICALLY POP UP WHEN SOMEONE STEPS THROUGH THE CURTAIN. AJ TOLD PEARCE TO HIT HER MUSIC, PEARCE WAS OF COURSE FINE WITH IT BECAUSE THE FANS WILL BE HAPPY AND NOT NOTICE HIS AWFUL DECISION MAKING IN ALLOWING THIS MATCH IN THE FIRST PLACE. MAXXINE WAS IN ON IT TOO BECAUSE SHE KNEW THERE’S NO WAY SHE COULD WIN WITHOUT IT. WHICH SHE DID NOT DO. THE COURTS WILL VERIFY THIS.”

Lynch had earlier won the Women’s Intercontinental title at Money in the Bank 2025 when she defeated Lyra Valkyria.

Seth Rollins opens up about partnership with wife Becky Lynch

A few months ago, Seth Rollins appeared on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike and discussed what it’s like to work alongside his wife, Becky Lynch.

“I think what it boils down to for me is: iron sharpens iron. You know, we met through this industry. We met in 2015 or something like that, 2014, became friends, both started to kind of rise up at the same time, found each other romantically. And then we’ve been able to really use each other as a resource. And to get out there and perform with her, the way she preps is different than how I prep, and the way she performs and interacts is different. So we get to learn from each other, we get to bounce stuff off of each other.”

He further said, “She is actually the greatest of all time. This is the first woman to main event WrestleMania. That’s our Super Bowl. She’s a mother, she’s an athlete, she’s an entertainer, she does everything. And she has transcended our industry and taken female wrestling to heights no one ever could have dreamed of.”

AJ Lee helps Maxxine Dupri win Women’s Intercontinental title on WWE Raw

AJ Lee made her return to WWE on Monday Night Raw, helping Maxxine Dupri defeat Becky Lynch to win the women’s Intercontinental championship.

On Monday night, Lynch was defending her women’s Intercontinental championship against Maxxine Dupri when she was distracted by Lee’s entrance.  Dupri then pinned a distracted Lynch with a crossbody to win the title shortly thereafter.

It was the first pro wrestling championship for Dupri (real name: Sydney Zmrzel). The former cheerleader and dancer signed with WWE after a tryout in 2021. She debuted on the main roster in July of 2022 as the sister of Max Dupri (now known as L.A. Knight), serving as Director of Talent for Maximum Male Models (now performing in AEW as MxM Collection).  In 2023, she joined Alpha Academy alongside Chad Gable, Akira Tozawa, and Otis. Most of her matches this year have come on Main Event or on NXT house shows, though this was her fourth Raw match against Lynch since August.

Lee returned to WWE after a decade away last September. She teamed with her husband CM Punk to defeat Lynch and her husband Seth Rollins at Wrestlapalooza that month, but had not been seen since.

WWE

  • Brodie Lee Jr. shared a photo with John Cena from last night’s wrestling training session at Natalya and TJ Wilson’s Dungeon.
  • Wilson (Tyson Kidd) posted a tweet thanking Cena for his visit:
    • John, I can’t thank you enough!! For coming through and being completely selfless with both your time and information. Best part of all-it was you that wanted to come and do that on your own accord. Says a lot about you. John Cena is truly one of a kind
  • WWE Vault uploaded a 51-minute found footage video with moments from Cena’s career.
  • Natalya’s new book “The Last Hart Beating” ranked eighth in the Canadian non-fiction section in the latest Toronto Star bestsellers list:
    • HONORED. Completely blown away by how much everyone is connecting with my book, The Last Hart Beating. It’s never easy putting your heart out there, but if my story can be a tool in someone else’s handbook of survival, it’s all worth it.
  • Bayley acknowledged the 20th anniversary of women’s wrestling promotion Shimmer holding its first show:
    • HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TO @shimmerwomen
    • You changed the trajectory of women’s wrestling. You changed my life. And I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. I think that’s safe to say for a lot of us. The bond we all share from those weekends will last forever!
    • Thank you @serenadeeb, @theallisondanger, Scream Queen Daffney, thank you Canadian Ninjas, and thank you Dave Prazak for trusting me. ANNNDDDD I HOPE YOU HAVE THE HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY
  • On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Maxxine Dupri discussed how much she’s learned from Chad Gable:
    • Oh my gosh, so much. He’s actually someone – kind of what I was saying earlier, he’s a man of few words. So when he tells me something, I take it to heart, because he’s someone that can look at something creatively. Just the business, the mind he has for this business, he’s just able to zoom out and see everything and give me these pointers that I’m like, duh, why didn’t I think of that? But I would never, and he sees it so clearly. So I go to him a lot for things like that, because when it comes to matches and just his ability to understand this business, [it] truly is out of this world.
  • Dupri explained that, when Candice LeRae mentioned her deceased brother in a segment last year, it was Dupri’s idea for her to do so:
    • Yes, 100 percent. It was that line I said, as I was the originator of the idea. So I said, we had the layout of the match where she’s going to yell at me and I’m going to walk out of the ring. And I just felt like if you want me to walk out of the ring, give me a reason to walk out of the ring. To me, I didn’t look at it as a negative towards my brother or towards my situation. To me, it felt like a positive, I get to bring light to the fact that I have a brother. To me, it was: we’re gonna acknowledge someone that’s my whole world that passed away, whether she’s saying it in a negative way or positive way. To me, it was a positive. And I love Candice, she’s an angel, such a wonderful human, a wonderful mom. I don’t have anything bad to say about her.
  • Dupri said she did make a mistake by not letting her mother know in advance that her brother would be mentioned:
    • My mom was definitely emotional about it. But again, she wasn’t emotional that Candice said something. She just didn’t know that that was going to come up. But if I would have told her, she would feel the same way that I feel. But Mondays are crazy, you know, the day gets going, you’re busy. I forgot to give her a warning.
  • Joe Hendry will be working both of NXT’s house shows in Florida this weekend.
  • After the title was vacated by Kylie Rae, WWE ID will crown a new Women’s Champion on November 17: “BREAKING….The new WWE ID Women’s Champion will be crowned on Nov. 17th at @WrestlingOpenRI at Rhodes On Pawtuxet in Cranston, RI! Whoever wins the championship will be ID’d!!! More info to come!!!”
  • Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio appeared in a holiday ad for sports retailer Lids.
  • Boxer Claressa Shields was the guest on a new episode of “What’s Your Story?” with Stephanie McMahon.
  • Logan Paul uploaded a new vlog.

Maxxine Dupri explains her in-ring improvement, WWE goals

Maxxine Dupri’s focus on getting more reps in the ring has driven her to become one of 2025’s most improved wrestlers.

Throughout this year, Dupri has received praise from fans for how hard she’s worked to improve her in-ring ability. She spoke about that growth on a new episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, crediting it to “the little things” like getting more experience in training and at live events. She’s trained at the WWE Performance Center, the Dungeon with Natalya and TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd), and the Flatbacks school that Shawn Spears and Tyler Breeze own.

“I really do feel like it shifted when I expanded my training,” Dupri said about her improvement. “Everyone on [the] main roster, a lot of them have wrestled on the indies or they’ve all trained at different places. So everyone does things differently. So I think getting to learn from different people and, like, taking it all in allows you to be well-rounded.

“So I think that’s what I needed. I needed to learn from different people, different coaches, be in the Dungeon, be at Flatbacks, be at the Performance Center, do NXT live events with girls I’ve never worked with before, that I’ve never locked up with. And really just start, like, figuring out all those in-betweens.

“Because I think it’s the little things that helped me level up more than just like — I know watching from the outside, it seems like, ‘Oh wow, okay, a new move. She’s leveled up.’ But I think for the actual performance, it’s all those little in-betweens that I really am still fine tuning, but really needed to work on.”

Dupri recently had a well-received series of matches against Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch. Winning a title is a goal for Dupri, but her main focus is just to continue growing more comfortable and confident in the ring.

“I would love to win a title. Like, that would be a really cool accomplishment,” Dupri said. “But the reason I want to win a title is because I want to have put in all that work.

“For me, it’s like that moment of like, ‘Oh, yes, I’ve done enough work that I’m capable of doing this. I’m capable of winning this title.’ So it’s more for me, like, throughout the end of this year, I want to keep wrestling as often as I can. I want to stay on NXT live events. I want to be booked and busy. I want to wrestle dark matches. I want to wrestle on Main Event. I want to have rep after rep after rep. So that way, when those opportunities come, I can step into the ring with full confidence.”

Dupri named Raquel Rodriguez, Roxanne Perez, Nikki Bella, and Chelsea Green as some of the people she would like to work with. She noted that Perez is her travel buddy on the road.

Along with that, Dupri would like to team with her fiance Anthony Luke (who has been featured on the show WWE LFG) in a mixed tag team match against Maryse & The Miz.

Last night, Dupri attended a training session at the Dungeon that John Cena was present for.

Three title matches announced for WWE Raw next week

WWE has booked a slate of title matches for next week’s episode of Raw.

– After impressing last week with a countout victory over Becky Lynch, Maxxine Dupri will face off against Lynch once again — this time with the Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the line. Dupri did an interview on Raw today thanking the fans for how much they’ve supported her. She called last week the biggest win of her career, then revealed the news that she’s getting a title shot against Lynch in her hometown of Sacramento, California.

– The men’s Intercontinental title will also be defended in a rematch next week with Dominik Mysterio taking on Rusev. In their title match two weeks ago, Dominik cheated by hitting a low blow behind the referee’s back. Dominik then cheated again in his successful defense against Penta today, using the ring bell hammer as a weapon.

– The third championship bout for next week is a World Tag Team title match with AJ Styles & Dragon Lee challenging Finn Balor & JD McDonagh. Dominik accidentally set up the title defense for his Judgment Day stablemates when, in a backstage segment, he complained that he’s the only champion on Raw who has to defend their title every week.

– Along with all that, Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer will be in non-title action against Roxanne Perez.

WWE Raw (Monday, October 20) —

  • Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch defends against Maxxine Dupri
  • Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio defends against Rusev
  • World Tag Team Champions Finn Balor & JD McDonagh defend against AJ Styles & Dragon Lee
  • Non-title match: Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer vs. Roxanne Perez

Ivy Nile advances in WWE Speed tournament

With less than a second to spare, Ivy Nile defeated Maxxine Dupri to advance to the next round of the current WWE Speed number one contender’s tournament.

The two faced off in a first-round matchup that premiered on Speed today. Dupri started fast but lost control of the match when Nile caught a kick and dropped her with a clothesline. Nile then threw Dupri into the barricade outside and suplexed her onto the floor. She kept the advantage until a back-and-forth in the closing stretch. Dupri hit a superplex, did The Worm into an elbow drop, and then hit a crossbody — but Nile rolled through and secured the pinfall just before the three-minute time limit expired.

The match was taped before Raw in Louisville, Kentucky this Monday and can be watched below:

Nile will now face Kelani Jordan on Speed next Wednesday (May 21) with the winner earning a title shot against new WWE Speed Women’s Champion Sol Ruca. Jordan defeated Wren Sinclair in the first round.

Ruca won the title from Candice LeRae last month, becoming the second-ever WWE Speed Women’s Champion. She also currently holds the NXT Women’s North American Championship.

Maxxine Dupri gets engaged to NXT talent Anthony Luke

Maxxine Dupri has a lot to celebrate this holiday season.

On Monday night, Dupri (real name Sydney Zmrzel) revealed that she and NXT prospect Anthony Luke are now engaged. Luke proposed to Dupri on the beach while on vacation, with the couple sharing photos from right after the moment.

The two have been dating for years, before either started their careers in professional wrestling. Dupri signed with WWE in 2021 and is currently on the Raw roster as part of Alpha Academy with Akira Tozawa and Otis. Luke was a football player before signing with WWE last year. He played defensive line for San Diego State University and later was signed to the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

Luke has wrestled on NXT house shows and recently competed on a taping for the upcoming A&E series WWE LFG (Legends & Future Greats).

Dupri’s most recent match was a battle royal on Raw this November.

The WWE main roster has had some time off for Christmas in recent days but will be back on the road this Thursday for holiday tour house shows.

Maxxine Dupri vs. Ivy Nile added to WWE Raw

Maxxine Dupri is looking for revenge this Monday.

On Instagram, the Alpha Academy member announced that Adam Pearce has given her a match against Ivy Nile for this Monday’s Raw. The match comes after Nile turned her back on her former friend, aligning with Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers who have now named themselves American Made.

Last week’s Raw saw Nile attempt to convince Dupri to stay backstage instead of accompanying Alpha Academy to the ring for their match against The Creed Brothers. Dupri said she would be out there to support them. The end of the match saw Nile attack Dupri at ringside, putting her in a submission hold. The distraction allowed the Creeds to score the win.

Here is the updated card for WWE Raw:

  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre defend against IYO SKY & Kairi Sane, and Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark
  • Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Odyssey Jones vs. Karrion Kross, Akam & Rezar
  • Sheamus vs. Pete Dunne
  • CM Punk to appear
  • Randy Orton to appear
  • Maxxine Dupri vs. Ivy Nile

WWE Main Event results: Dante Chen vs. Akira Tozawa

This week’s WWE Main Event was taped at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky before Monday’s episode of Raw.

An average show this week that had its moments, but Akira Tozawa is always entertaining.

Chelsea Green defeated Tegan Nox (5:01)

This was fine. Nox is certainly getting better but some of her ring work needs tightening up.

There was no Piper Niven or Natalya this week after their tag match on the show last week and so it lost something in its impact, but Green is clearly enjoying being a heel these days.

The early going was full of little comedy bits from Green until Nox came off the apron with a cannonball and went up top. Green kicked her off the turnbuckle and then stomped her before slapping on a chin lock.

Nox worked her way out and, after exchanging some quick pin attempts, she came back with clotheslines and a running splash to the corner, before again going up top.

In the end, Green took the opportunity to turn a high cross into an opportunity, rolling through and grabbing a handful of tights to get the win. The finish made sense, playing into Green’s heelish character.

Akira Tozawa (w/ Maxxine Dupri) defeated Dante Chen (6:30)

This was a good match, only to be spoiled a little by some chin locks midway through that felt a little unnecessary for a match designed to hype up the crowd before Raw.

Before the match, Dupri and Tozawa did a little jig together in the ring and Chen looked on and couldn’t help smirking at it.

I always find Tozawa pretty damn entertaining. On and off over the last few years he’s been a Main Event regular and always gives a good performance, more often than not taking the fall to put someone else over.

The latest iteration of Tozawa’s character has seen him Hulk up as he heads to the finish. He tears his shirt – sometimes not managing to do it all the way in half – and then runs wild.

Chen is a big dude, especially when put next to Tozawa, and he took the early going with Tozawa flipping all over for him.

After a series of chin locks from Chen, Tozawa used a headscissors and a suicide dive to the outside to get a near fall.

After a brief comeback, Tozawa finished Chen with his top rope senton back splash and celebrated with Dupri, because he doesn’t notch up too many wins. This was his second of 2024.

Rhea Ripley vs. Maxxine Dupri added to WWE Raw

Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley will be in non-title action on Raw this Monday.

A non-title match between Ripley and Maxxine Dupri has been announced for Monday’s episode of Raw in Cleveland. It will be the first time the two have ever faced each other.

This is the first match for Ripley since she retained her Women’s World Championship against Zoey Stark at Survivor Series.

On NXT this week, Dupri took part in a six-person mixed tag team match. Alpha Academy (Dupri, Chad Gable & Otis) defeated Meta-Four (Lash Legend, Noam Dar & Oro Mensah).

There was a backstage segment on Raw earlier this week where The Creed Brothers called Ivy Nile their secret weapon in neutralizing Ripley. The Creed Brothers are the number one contenders to Judgment Day’s Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles. Dupri said she knows Nile can handle Ripley.

Also added to Raw is a segment featuring two of the top contenders in the Raw women’s division. WWE has announced that Becky Lynch is looking to call out Nia Jax this Monday night. Lynch has said that she still owes Jax a receipt for when Jax broke Lynch’s nose and bloodied her face in 2018.

Jax defeated Shayna Baszler on Raw this past Monday. Jax then bailed when Lynch tried to confront her after the match.

The updated card for Monday’s Raw is listed below:

  • CM Punk will appear and reveal which brand he’s signing with
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Jey Uso
  • Rhea Ripley vs. Maxxine Dupri
  • Becky Lynch wants to call out Nia Jax
