Bully Ray to guest commentate NWA title match at Nuff Said

The NWA is bringing in a guest commentator for the main event of this weekend’s Nuff Said pay-per-view.

In the main event of Nuff Said this Saturday, Tyrus will put his NWA World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Matt Cardona. It was announced last night that Bully Ray will serve as a guest commentator for the match.

“As announced on tonight’s NWA Livestream, @bullyray5150 will be ringside on commentary for the #NuffSaid main event between @PlanetTyrus & @TheMattCardona,” the NWA tweeted on Monday. “NUFF SAID is sold out, but you can still catch it live on @FiteTV!”

Cardona responded to the announcement: “@bullyray5150 sliced a layer of skin off my forehead with a cheese grater a few months ago and now he’s the ‘guest commentator’ in my @nwa Worlds Heavyweight Championship match against  @PlanetTyrus? HOW IS THAT FAIR?! #NuffSaid”

Bully Ray also appeared as a guest commentator at the NWA’s Alwayz Ready PPV in June 2022.

Bully Ray was in action on the live episode of NWA Power last week, losing to Odinson by disqualification in a “no tables” match.

At NWA Hard Times 3 last November, Tyrus defeated Trevor Murdoch and Cardona in a triple threat match to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

Nuff Said is being held at the Egypt Shrine Center in Tampa, Florida on Saturday night. The updated card for the PPV is listed below:

  • NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tyrus defends against Matt Cardona
  • NWA World Women’s Champion Kamille defends against Angelina Love

WWE talking with E! about new reality show involving real-life wrestling couples

WWE is in talks with E! about a new reality show, according to Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer said “they are looking for legitimate wrestling couples, so some upcoming signings could relate to that if the project is finalized.”

He then noted that Matt Cardona’s name was mentioned as possible because of Chelsea Green’s impending return to WWE. Cardona, the former Zack Ryder in WWE, was released in April 2020 and completely reinvented himself when he started working the indies.

Cardona has appeared for AEW, Impact, NWA, GCW and other indies throughout the past two years and is set to challenge for the NWA World title at the company’s unannounced next pay-per-view.

WWE and E! have worked together on several successful reality shows in the past, led by Total Divas when ran for more than six years from July 2013 to December 2019. That led to the Total Bellas spinoff which ran from October 2016 through January 2021.

In November, WWE announced they are working on a Bianca Belair/Montez Ford show for Hulu.

Tyrus to defend World title against Matt Cardona on next NWA PPV

The first challenger for Tyrus’ NWA World Heavyweight Championship will be former champion, Matt Cardona.

The NWA revealed on Friday that Tyrus vs. Cardona will happen on the company’s next pay-per-view, although an official date for the show has yet to be announced.

A contract signing between the two will take place on the NWA’s first-ever live edition of Power on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from the Knoxville Convention Center in Knoxville, TN. Tickets for the show went on sale today.

Cardona won the title from Trevor Murdoch in February but was forced to vacate it in June after suffering a torn biceps. Murdoch regained the vacated title in a four-way match at Alwayz Ready but then lost it to Tyrus at Hard Times in a triple-threat match that also involved Cardona. Now, Cardona is claiming he was never pinned to lose the title and deserves a one-on-one match with the champion.

“Matt Cardona continues to argue that he is the uncrowned NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion — as even after Hard Times 3’s triple threat match that saw Tyrus crowned the new champion, Cardona has proclaimed: ‘My rematch is still required! I’ve never been pinned to lose the 10 lbs of Gold!!'” NWA’s press release reads.

“NWA President William Patrick Corgan wants to put the matter to rest once and for all, so at the first-ever NWA LIVE Powerrr in Knoxville, TN, the One-on-One rematch between NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Tyrus and former champion Matt Cardona at the NWA’s next Pay-Per-View will be set in stone during the official contract signing in the middle of the ring!!!”

Tyrus added to NWA Hard Times 3 World title match

The NWA has announced a change to the main event of its next pay-per-view.

On this week’s episode of NWA USA, it was announced that Tyrus is cashing in his NWA Television title for a chance to become World Champion. The NWA Hard Times 3 main event will now be Trevor Murdoch vs. Matt Cardona vs. Tyrus for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

Wrestlers who hold the NWA TV title are able to cash in the championship for a Worlds Heavyweight Championship shot after seven successful title defenses. In a promo on NWA USA, Tyrus said he’s willing to give up what he loves most for another chance to become Worlds Heavyweight Champion.

Tyrus unsuccessfully challenged Murdoch for the Worlds Heavyweight Championship at NWA 74 last month.

This June, Murdoch won the Worlds Heavyweight Championship after Cardona had to vacate the title due to injury.

It was said on NWA USA that a tournament will be held to crown a new Television Champion. Tyrus will hold the title until that happens.

Hard Times 3 is taking place in Chalmette, Louisiana on Saturday, November 12.

Matt Cardona vs. Trevor Murdoch World title match set for NWA Hard Times III

The rivalry between NWA World Champion Trevor Murdoch and Matt Cardona will continue at November 12th’s Hard Times III in New Orleans, Louisiana, as they will meet again for the title.

During Tuesday’s NWA Power, Ricky Steamboat was on hand to help make the announcement with Murdoch but Cardona came out instead and revealed the news.

Cardona had to relinquish the title at June’s Alwayz Ready due to a torn biceps which was then put up in a four-way that night. Murdoch won the match to begin his second reign as champion. It was Cardona who ended that first reign, defeating Murdoch on a February edition of Power.

As part of the storyline, William Corgan agreed to give Cardona and all of his entourage future title shots if he agreed to give up the championship at Alwayz Ready.

Murdoch successfully defended the title against Tyrus this past Sunday at NWA 74 while Cardona took a shocking loss to the unheralded Rolando Freeman. Cardona rematched Freeman on Tuesday’s show in a no DQ match and lost again, aided by Murdoch.

Nick Gage attacks Matt Cardona at GCW Homecoming Part Two

Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green’s wedding vow renewal ceremony did not go as planned.

The segment headlined GCW Homecoming Part Two from Atlantic City on Sunday.  Former Tough Enough winner, Maven, officiated the ceremony and insulted the fans for making hurtful comments online about the Cardonas.

Cardona’s parents were in attendance for the ceremony. Green had a special surprise for Cardona as well and brought out Maki Itoh to sing for them.

At one point, Cardona said that he put GCW on the map when he defeated Nick Gage for the title. Gage would then hit the ring along with Dewey Donovan shortly after the ceremony ended. Gage first attacked Cardona’s father with light tubes and then turned his attention to Cardona.

Green went to confront Gage but was attacked by Allie Katch, who hit her with the wedding cake and then gave her a piledriver. Gage then took a pizza cutter to Cardona’s forehead and got on the microphone to say it’s “MDK all f***ing day” to end the show.

Earlier on the card, Maki Itoh made her debut for the promotion. She defeated Dark Sheik in singles competition. Itoh had lost to Billie Starkz at JCW After Hours Two the night before.

The GCW fans continue to boo Blake Christian after it was revealed he signed an AEW/ROH deal and will not be around as much. After his team with Jordan Oliver and Nick Wayne was defeated by the Second Gear Crew, Christian got up in his teammates’ faces as the crowd continued to turn on him.

Charles Mason attempted to interfere in the BUSSY vs. Charli Evans & Everett Connors match. All four official participants in the match ended up piling on him for the pin, however, despite him not actually being in the match.

One night after winning the GCW Ultraviolent Championship from Alex Colon, Rina Yamashita would successfully defend it against the 6ft 2 Sawyer Wreck.

The promotion also appears to be building to a big tag team title match on September 3 in Chicago. The Briscoes defeated Los Macizos for the titles on Saturday and were then challenged by the Second Gear Crew for a future title match. After John Wayne Murdoch and Alex Colon defeated Los Macizos on Sunday, they said they want a crack at the titles too. BUSSY hit the ring after the match and also said they want a shot at the tag titles in Chicago. So, it appears multiple teams are looking to face the Briscoes for the belts that night.

GCW will be back with shows next weekend from Concord, North Carolina on Friday and Atlanta on Saturday.

The full results from GCW Homecoming Part Two are as follows:

  • GCW Extreme Champion Cole Radrick defeated Alec Price, Gringo Loco, Axton Ray, Jimmy Lloyd, & Masha Slamovich to retain the title
  • Maki Itoh defeated Dark Sheik
  • Ninja Mack defeated Kevin Blackwood
  • The Second Gear Crew (Mance Warner, Matthew Justice & 1 Called Manders) defeated Blake Christian, Jordan Oliver, & Nick Wayne
  • Mike Bailey defeated Starboy Charlie
  • BUSSY (Allie Katch & Effy) vs. Charli Evans & Everett Connors went to a no-contest
  • GCW Ultraviolent Champion Rina Yamashita defeated Sawyer Wreck to retain the title.
  • The Mega Bastards (John Wayne Murdoch & Alex Colon) defeated Los Macizos (Ciclope & Miedo Extremo) in a tag team deathmatch

Matt Cardona’s in-ring return announced for NWA 74

Matt Cardona’s in-ring return is being advertised for the NWA’s 74th anniversary pay-per-view.

The NWA has announced that Cardona will make “an earlier than expected return to action” as he faces a handpicked mystery opponent at night one of NWA 74. The PPV is being held in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28.

The heel Cardona claimed that he’ll be picking his opponent from “the incredibly talented NWA roster.”

“I’M BACK! I will make my return to the ring at #NWA74 on August 27,” Cardona tweeted. “I will handpick my opponent from the incredibly talented @nwa roster.” Who’s it gonna be?!”

Cardona has been out of action since tearing his biceps at a show for Game Changer Wrestling this May. The injury forced Cardona to vacate the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated in June, Cardona said he was hoping to return to the ring this September. Cardona said he was told his recovery time would be five months but he was hoping to be back in three.

Cardona and Chelsea Green will take part in a segment where they renew their wedding vows at GCW Homecoming part two on Sunday, August 14. The vow renewal will be officiated by Maven.

Trevor Murdoch became NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion after the title was vacated by Cardona. Murdoch is set to defend the title against Tyrus at NWA 74 night two.

Maven to officiate The Cardonas’ vow renewal at GCW Homecoming

Maven has been announced for GCW Homecoming.

The promotion revealed on Thursday that the 45-year-old will officiate Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green’s wedding vow renewal ceremony on night two of the two-night event.

In June, Cardona announced that he and Chelsea Green would still be part of the show despite a torn biceps he suffered at GCW Downard Spiral on May 28.

Cardona tweeted: “I was injured at a @GCWrestling_ show. @Lauderdale11 didn’t offer to pay for my surgery/rehab. He then wanted to unbook me from Homecoming…the show that I MADE FAMOUS! In lieu of suing GCW, we agreed that @ImChelseaGreen & I WILL be booked & inviting you all to our vow renewal!”

GCW Homecoming will take place August 13 & 14 from the Carousel Room At the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Both nights will be available on pay-per-view via FITE TV. The updated lineup for the shows is as follows:

GCW Homecoming Part One, Saturday, August 13, 7 p.m. Eastern time —

  • GCW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Effy
  • Nick Wayne vs. Starboy Charlie
  • The Briscoes vs. Los Macizos
  • Matt Tremont vs. John Wayne Murdoch
  • GCW Ultraviolent Championship: Alex Colon (c) vs. Rina Yamashita

GCW Homecoming Part Two, Sunday, August 14, 4 p.m. Eastern time —

  • Maki Itoh vs. Dark Shiek
  • Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green renew their wedding vows
  • Charli Evans vs. Cole Radrick
  • Rina Yamashita vs. Sawyer Wreck
  • “Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. Joe Lando

Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green to ‘renew their wedding vows’ at GCW Homecoming

Though he’s currently out of action after undergoing biceps surgery, Matt Cardona will still be playing a part in Game Changer Wrestling’s Homecoming weekend.

GCW has announced that The Cardonas (Matt Cardona & Chelsea Green) will “renew their wedding vows” at Homecoming day two on Sunday, August 14. The couple got married on December 31 of 2021.

Cardona suffered a torn biceps while facing Blake Christian for GCW on May 28. He underwent surgery for the injury on June 7.

The torn biceps resulted in Cardona having to relinquish the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Trevor Murdoch then won the vacant title.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated earlier this month, Cardona said he’s been told that he’ll be out of action for five months — but his goal is to return to the ring this September.

Cardona told Sports Illustrated that he’ll still be making the majority of his scheduled bookings despite being injured.

“I’m still going to be making towns. I’ve contacted every promotion I had booked, and all but two are still bringing me in because they know I sell tickets — and I rescheduled with those other two,” Cardona said.

“I’m not going to be stuck at home injured. I won’t be in the ring, but this isn’t a three-month vacation. I’m just as busy as I was, even with a torn bicep.”

GCW’s Homecoming weekend is taking place in Atlantic City, New Jersey on August 13 and August 14. Both shows will air live on Fite TV.

GCW has also announced that Maki Itoh will be making her debut for the promotion at Homecoming weekend.

Matt Cardona hoping to return to the ring three months after biceps surgery

Former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Matt Cardona is hoping to make an early return from biceps surgery.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Cardona said his goal is to be back in the ring in three months. Cardona underwent surgery for a torn biceps on June 7.

“My doctor said that the recovery is five months,” Cardona said. “But my goal is three.”

Cardona is aiming to return in time for his first-round match against Tatanka at The Wrestling Showcase on Saturday, September 3. Cardona, Tatanka, Jacob Fatu, Steve Maclin, Rich Swann, the former John Morrison, Killer Kross, and Tony Nese are scheduled to be part of a one-night tournament to crown the first Wrestling Showcase Champion.

Cardona said that, if he isn’t medically cleared for The Wrestling Showcase, he’ll have a replacement. The show will air live on Fite TV.

Cardona suffered the torn biceps during a match against Blake Christian for GCW on May 28.

The injury led to Cardona having to vacate the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at Alwayz Ready last Saturday. A new champion was crowned as Trevor Murdoch defeated Nick Aldis, Thom Latimer, and Samuel Shaw in a four-way match in the main event of the pay-per-view.

Cardona still appeared at Alwayz Ready despite undergoing surgery before the PPV. He told Sports Illustrated that, though he isn’t able to wrestle, he’s still going to make the majority of appearances he was scheduled for this summer.

Matt Cardona will be at NWA Alwayz Ready despite torn biceps

Matt Cardona will be at NWA Alwayz Ready despite having suffered a torn biceps at GCW Downward Spiral.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio on Wednesday, Cardona revealed he still plans to appear on the pay-per-view.

“Doctor is suggesting surgery, which I will be getting on Tuesday but there is no way I’m not coming to a pay-per-view named after me,” Cardona said on the show. “I will be there. I don’t know what exactly is going to happen, I don’t know what exactly is going to go down. I’m going to be there, I’ll have the Ten Pounds of Gold with me and that’s really Billy’s [Corgan] decision what he wants to do.”

“Trust me, part of me wanted to just tape it up and work through it but I want to be doing this for a long, long time so it’s probably better that I get it taken care of right now.”

Cardona continued to say he’s not sure what role he will play on the show but is certain that he will be there.

“I will be there, I don’t care if I have to drive, walk, crawl, fly, I will be there. What I’ll be doing? I’m not sure but the champ will be in the building,” he said.

The injury comes at an unfortunate time for Cardona. Not only was he scheduled for the NWA pay-per-view, he also had upcoming dates booked with GCW, Warrior Wrestling, and Impact.

Matt Cardona confirms torn biceps, will require surgery

Matt Cardona is injured.

The NWA World Heavyweight Champion posted to social media on Tuesday that a recent MRI confirmed he has a torn biceps.

“Got a MRI today. Bicep is torn. Surgery needed. Will unfortunately need to cancel some dates,” Cardona wrote on Twitter

He suffered the injury on Saturday at GCW Downward Spiral in a match against Blake Christian.

“I think I tore my bicep and I still finished the match and beat you!!!” Cardona wrote to Christian on Twitter following the event.

Although the NWA has yet to comment on Cardona’s injury, it will likely mean he will miss the promotion’s upcoming Alwayz Ready pay-per-view on June 11. Cardona was scheduled to defend his title against the former champion, Nick Aldis, on the show.

Cardona was also scheduled to make his debut for Warrior Wrestling on June 5 from Chicago. He had been booked for GCW No Signal in the Hills from Los Angeles on July 15 as well.

Matt Cardona says he injured his arm at GCW Downward Spiral

Matt Cardona suspects he may have a torn biceps.

The 37-year-old posted to social media that he believes he injured his arm at GCW Downward Spiral on Saturday. Cardona defeated Blake Christian and then tweeted at his opponent after the show.

“I think I tore my bicep and I still finished the match and beat you!!!” Cardona wrote to Christian.

He continued to say that he would be unable to attend his afterparty as he was flying to Orlando to have the injury evaluated.

“Sorry guys. Gotta miss this after party at @NerdBarLV. Messed up my arm at GCW tonight and I need to get a red eye to Orlando to get it checked out,” he wrote.

GCW Downward Spiral took place Saturday, May 28 from the Silver Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The full results from the show are as follows:

  • Early Morning Guy Steele defeated Jimmy Lloyd, Marcus Mathers, Titus Alexander, The Rotation, and Matt Vandagriff in a six way scramble match

  • Effy defeated Kevin Blackwood
  • Dark Sheik defeated Jai Vidal
  • Johnny Game Changer (w/Dad) defeated Joey Janela
  • Rina Yamashita & Cole Radrick defeated Alex Colon & John Wayne Murdoch

Impact Digital Media title changes hands at Wrestling Revolver event

Rich Swann defeated Matt Cardona to win the Impact Wrestling Digital Media Championship at Saturday’s Wrestling Revolver event, but Cardona refused to relinquish the belt.

Swann pinned Cardona at Wrestling Revolver Vegas Vacation on Saturday, but in an angle, Cardona left with the physical title belt and is still claiming to be the Champion.

Both Swann and Cardona cut promos that were posted on social media with regards to the dispute.

Here is Swann’s promo:

Here is Cardona’s promo:

Replays of the show are available on FITE TV.

This angle will likely play out on upcoming episodes of Impact Wrestling, which airs Thursdays on AXS TV and on YouTube.

Cardona had held the title since the January 21 Impact tapings, winning the belt from the first-ever Digital Media Champion Jordynne Grace on a show that aired on February 3.

Impact’s next pay-per-view event, Slammiversary, airs Sunday, June 19 at 8 p.m. Eastern time on traditional PPV and on FITE TV.
