Lee Moriarty added to MLW Opera Cup tournament

MLW announced that Lee Moriarty will be entering this year’s Opera Cup tournament.

He signed a deal with AEW last week following his Dark: Elevation match with Daniel Garcia in Cincinnati, Ohio, and also worked Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor on Sunday.

The Opera Cup will kick off on October 2nd at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with the finals taking place in November in the same venue. On Monday, Bobby Fish was announced as the sixth man in the tournament and with Moriarty’s inclusion, that leaves one man left. The other five entrants are Tom Lawlor, TJP, Calvin Tankman, Matt Cross and Davey Richards.

The Fightland-themed event will also feature World Champion Jacob Fatu vs. National Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone in a title vs. title match.

Lee Moriarty accepts AEW contract offer at Dark: Elevation tapings

Lee Moriarty is now All Elite.

After wrestling on tonight’s AEW Dark: Elevation tapings in Cincinnati, Moriarty was offered an AEW contract by Tony Khan in front of the live audience. Moriarty accepted the offer.

Moriarty faced Daniel Garcia on the Dark: Elevation tapings.

Moriarty made his AEW debut last month, facing Dante Martin on an episode of AEW Dark. Moriarty also was in action against Joey Janela on Dark this Tuesday.

At this Sunday’s ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view, Moriarty will team with John Walters & LSG against Violence Unlimited’s Homicide, Chris Dickinson & Tony Deppen. It will be the first time Moriarty has wrestled for ROH. The match has been hyped as one technical wrestler from the past (Walters), one from the present (LSG), and one who is considered part of the future (Moriarty) facing Violence Unlimited.

Moriarty also made his MLW debut at July’s Battle Riot tapings. He took part in the 40-man Battle Riot match and also faced Calvin Tankman.

Moriarty is a former IWTV Independent Wrestling World Champion.

Four participants have been added to the field for this year’s MLW Battle Riot match.

MLW announced today that King Muertes (formerly known as Mil Muertes), Caribbean Champion Richard Holliday, Zenshi, and Lee Moriarty will be taking part in the Battle Riot. The match is taking place at MLW’s television tapings at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 10.

Moriarty is making his MLW debut at the tapings.

The four wrestlers join MLW National Openweight Champion Alex Hammerstone as the first participants announced for the Battle Riot.

The Battle Riot is a 40-man battle royal where two wrestlers start the match and then a new participant is added every 60 seconds. There are no disqualifications, and eliminations can occur by pinfall, submission, or being thrown over the top rope. The winner of the Battle Riot will receive an MLW World Heavyweight Championship shot whenever they want it.

Jacob Fatu is the current MLW World Heavyweight Champion. In storyline, Fatu’s Contra Unit stablemate Josef Samael controls the challenges to Fatu’s title and has denied Hammerstone a title shot. The Battle Riot is Hammerstone’s only path to a title match.

This will be the third Battle Riot match that MLW has presented. Tom Lawlor won the first Battle Riot in 2018 and LA Park won the second Battle Riot in 2019.

The July 10 tapings in Philadelphia are the start of a new season for MLW. It will be the first MLW event with fans in attendance since March 2020.

Left My Wallet returns with one of the brightest up-and-coming stars on the independent scene today: Lee Moriarty!

The Pittsburgh, PA, native has been making a name for himself in Game Changer Wrestling, Beyond Wrestling, and countless other promotions and now he stops by to talk about a myriad of subjects.

While not a huge sports fan, he does love basketball so we explored his love of Jimmy Butler and why he likes the hard nosed Miami Heat forward. We talked about his own experience with martial arts and sports growing up and what spawned his love of Bruce Lee.
