WWE NXT live results: Rhea Ripley vs. Dakota Kai, Kushida returns

Preview by Joseph Currier

After Dakota Kai’s betrayal at TakeOver, Rhea Ripley will be out for revenge on tonight’s NXT.

Ripley vs. Kai is set for tonight’s episode. It will be the second week in a row that Kai has faced a member of the team she turned against at TakeOver. Last Wednesday, Kai got disqualified against Candice LeRae after using Tegan Nox’s knee brace as a weapon.

Ripley made the save for LeRae after that match. Ripley also appeared later in the show and set her sights on Shayna Baszler’s NXT Women’s Championship.

Tonight’s NXT will also feature Kushida’s return from a wrist injury. The last time he was in action was against WALTER in October.

Damian Priest vs. Killian Dain was originally announced for tonight, but WWE is claiming that Priest is still recovering from a rib injury that he suffered at TakeOver.

Plus, tonight’s show will follow up on Finn Balor defeating Tommaso Ciampa in last week’s main event. Balor won after interference by Adam Cole, but the show then ended with Balor laying Cole out.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opens with good news because Mauro Ranallo is back. His introduction is interrupted by Killian Dain storming into the ring demanding a fight. Cue “The Bruiserweight”, and the fight is on.

Killian Dain defeated Pete Dunne

Dain pinned Dunne after both were knocked out doing a spot off the ropes. Dunne’s knee was bandaged, which would play into the match as Dain targeted the leg in the second half of the match.

Dunne showed fire at the start with strikes and joint locks. Dain cut off Dunne with a crossbody block, and then he began working him over. Dain stretched Dunne for a while — until Dunne made a fiery comeback. Dunne executed a German suplex for a two count.

Dunne landed on his feet attempting a moonsault, but sold like his injured knee gave out. Dain then wiped him out with a tope. From there the show went to a commercial break with spilt screens.

Dain worked the leg through the commercial break. He applied a half crab, but Dunne got a rope break. Dunne was really selling his knee as he was putting no weight on it. Dain continued to maul him.

Dain went for a high risk move, and Dunne tripped him up. Dunne then superplexed him as the show returned from break. Tornado DDT and double stomp on Dain’s hand. A kick and a cover netted a two count.

After twice teasing it earlier on, Dunne finally landed his Asai moonsault. Dain was still able to recover, and he dropped Dunne into the side of the ring. Dain with a senton and a cannonball that sandwiched Dunne between the ring steps.

Dain went for a Vader bomb, but Dunne caught him in a triangle. Dain deadlifted Dunne into a powerbomb. Dunne countered another attempted Vader bomb, and climbed on the turnbuckles with Dain.

With both perched on the ropes, Dunne applied a sleeper on Dain. Fading into unconsciousness, Dain fell backwards with Dunne on his back. They crashed to the mat and both were out, but Dain was covering Dunne so the referee counted to three.

Cathy Kelley interviwed Dakota Kai. She said Tegan Nox was not worth her time any more. Kai then vowed to take out Rhea Ripley in their match later tonight just like she did that “hood rat Mia Yim.” Harsh words from Kai.

The next TakeOver was announced for February 16 in Portland.

Undisputed Era came to the ring for a promo. NXT Champion Adam Cole was flanked by NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong and NXT Tag Team Champion Kyle O’Reilly. Co-holder of the tag titles — Bobby Fish — was not with them, but he was mentioned.

Cole was cutting a heated promo on Keith Lee when the crowd showered him with “bask in his glory” chants. Cole then addressed Finn Balor. Cole wanted answers for why Balor attacked him last week, and he said Undisputed Era was not leaving the ring until they get answers.

Keith Lee entered the scene to cofront Undisputed Era. O’Reilly taunted Lee and called him a loser. Lee responded by mentioning he turned Cole into a viral GIF for the pounce into the crowd from last week.

Lee admired the title belts that the heels were holding, and Cole began to call him out. Lee struck first when he attacked them and cleared the ring. Cole was outside the ring when Tomasso Ciampa ran down to boot him from behind. Ciampa rolled Cole back into the rings.

Lee went to powerbomb Cole, but O’Reilly and Strong rescued him from the crasp of Lee. In the melee, Cole had dropped his title belt. Ciampa picked up Goldie and taunted Cole with it.

Xia Lee cut a promo ahead of her match.

A short video documented Kushida’s injury and recovery. He was shown with his family, and Kushida said he does this not for himself, but for his family. This was great.

NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler defeated Xia Lee in a non-title match

Baszler submitted Lee in short match where Lee showed a lot of fire, but the champion still managed to trap her in a submission.

Lee showed fire from the start as she countered Baszler, and then Lee dropped Baszler with a kick. Baszler answered back by snapping Lee’s arm on a rope.

Baszler worked an arm, but Lee fired up with kicks. Baszler was backpedaling, but she set up a trap. Lee escaped the trap to give Baszler a sunset powerbomb.

Lee went to follow up with her tornado kick finisher, but she missed. Baszler then caught Lee in the Kirifuda Clutch for the submission.

Kassius Ohno in a pre-tape called himself a “wrestling genius” that is having a career renaissance. He is back in the United States ahead of the upcoming When Worlds Collide supercard, and he threw out a challenge to anyone in NXT to face him in a preview match.

Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake w/ Jaxson Ryker) defeated Leon Ruff & Adrian Atlantis

Blake pinned Atlantis to end a complete squash. Cutler with a buckle bomb disptached Ruff. The Sons then double-teamed Atlantis with their stomp/slop drop combo finisher.

Ryker chokeslamed Ruff on the apron after the match was over.

Dakota Kai vs. Rhea Ripley never started

Kai’s Titantron entrance video was her heel turn from War Games playing on a loop. Kai was also again carrying Tegan Nox’s knee brace. She was proud of the setting up and turning on her allies.

Ripley cut a promo on Kai before the match basically saying this match tonight also was a set up. Mia Yim then stormed to the ring to jump Kai. A brawl ensued.

The brawling spilled outside the ring, and Yim repeatedly threw Kai into the barricades. The brawled to the back, and Ripley stood in the ring beaming at the chaos she created.

Shayna Baszler and the Horsewomen ran in to attack Ripley. Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir first atttacked, and Ripley was fighting them off when Baszler from behind caught Ripley in the Kirifuda Clutch. Ripley tried to power out, but the Horsewomen helped to stop her. Baszler choked out Ripley and left her laying in the ring. Baszler then cut a promo over a prone Ripley.

Baszler announced they would face each other in a women’s title match — which will take place December 18.

In a backstage interview with Cathy Kelley, Tomasso Ciampa and Keith Lee revealed Dominik Dijakovic as their partner in a six-man tag team match against Undisputed Era that is set for tonight’s main event.’

A vignette revealed more about the motives of Finn Balor. He is eyeing a title match against Cole, which was the reason for the Pele kick cliffhanger from the previous week.

Another much different — but equally as good — vignette hyped Isaiah “Swerve” Scott. The message was this is Swerve’s house.

Matt Riddle defeated Kassius Ohno

Riddle pinned Ohno after a Bro Derek. Riddle fought from underneath to win a really good match.

They grappled to a stalemate until Ohno was able ground Riddle. Riddle esacped a cravat, and he started a comeback with a series of strikes. Riddle hit Ohno with a penalty kick before a commercial break.

Riddle was hitting Ohno with repeated kicks as the show returned from break. Ohno fought back and mowed down Riddle with a kick of his own. Ohno soon went back to the cravat. He held on to the cravat as he spiked him with a Bubba bomb.

Ohno applied a straightjacket, but Riddle escaped to drop a Bro-ton. Ohno tried to cut him off with joint jocks on Riddle’s bare foot. Riddle answered back with strikes.

Riddle delivered the Bro 2 Sleep, a powerbomb, the Final Flash knee strike and then followed with a Floating Bro. Ohno still managed to kick out.

Ohno went back to the cravat, and even used a cravat suplex. Ohno went for a Gotch piledriver, but Riddle countered. Riddle hit a ripcord knee, and then executed the Bro Derek before scoring the pinfall.

Fan voting opens tonight on the WWE website for the year-end NXT awards.

Rhea Ripley vs. Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship was made official for two weeks time on NXT.

The next match was supposed to be Kushida’s return to the ring against Raul Mendoza. Cameron Grimes atttacked Mendoza during his entrance. Grimes then took’s Mendoza’s place in the match.

Kushida defeated Cameron Grimes

Kushida pinned Grimes using a victory roll in a good — but short — match. They spent all that time building up Grimes only for him to lose clean here. Kushida looked good in his return to the ring.

Kushida did a flip dive off the top to the floor. Grimes twice escaped an attempted octopus, but Kushida was able to apply the stretch on a third attempt.

Grimes countered a handspring to give Kushida a German suplex. Kushida made a quick comeback. Grimes went for another German suplex, and Kushida cradled him with a victory roll for the pinfall.

Lio Rush defending the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Angel Garza was announced for next week on NXT. Also set for next week is Mia Yim against Dakota Kai.

Keith Lee, Tomasso Ciampa & Dominik Dijakovic defeated Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly)

Lee pinned Cole in the closing moments of an exciting finish. Finn Balor did a run-in during the match.

The babyface team dominated much of the early portion of the match. Dijakovic got to shine a lot before a commercial break. He continued to run roughshod during the break. Undisputed Era tried ganging up on him, and they eventually overpowered him. They were working him over when the show returned from break.

Strong started taunting Dijakovic, which fired him up. Undisputed Era still used underhanded tactics to maintain control.

Ciampa ran wild after a hot tag. He cleaned house on Undisputed Era. Project Ciampa on O’Reilly led to a near fall. Ciampa went for an Air Raid Crash, but Strong made a blind tag for a save. Ciampa was hit with a high/low combo for a two count.

A great series of exchanges between Ciampa and Strong led into a double down. Lee and Cole then tagged in. Cole ate a lariat, and he powdered.

Dijakovic did a corkscrew plancha to the outside. As several people were fighting in the ring, Finn Balor ran in to hit Cole with a shotgun dropkick. The referee also went down in a domino effect.

Balor executed the 1919 on Ciampa. Balor then went to measure Cole, but Lee broke it up. Lee laid out Balor with a Spirit Bomb. Cole then hit Lee with a superkick.

Cole went for a Last Shot, but Lee countered to deliver a jackhammer. Lee then covered Cole for the pinfall as the crowd counted along as the groggy ref made the three count. Great finish, and it played into a greater story as Lee scored a pin on the champion.

The finish would also play into a story for the next episode of NXT.

William Regal at the end of the show came out to announce a triple threat number one contender’s match for next week. Keith Lee vs. Finn Balor vs. Tomasso Ciampa is set for next Wednesday on NXT.

NXT notes: Priest vs. Dain no longer set, Kushida returning to action

– One of the matches that was announced for tonight’s NXT will no longer be taking place.

During this morning’s episode of WWE’s The Bump, it was revealed that Damian Priest won’t be facing Killian Dain on NXT tonight. It was claimed that Priest is still recovering from a rib injury that he suffered at NXT TakeOver: WarGames and isn’t cleared to wrestle tonight.

Priest vs. Dain was originally announced for the episode after both were involved in a triple threat match at TakeOver. Pete Dunne defeated Priest and Dain and went on to challenge for Adam Cole’s NXT Championship at Survivor Series.

Priest also wrestled at Survivor Series. He was on Team NXT for their men’s elimination tag match against Team Raw and Team SmackDown.

– WWE has announced that Kushida will return to action on tonight’s NXT. His opponent hasn’t been revealed.

This will be the first time Kushida has wrestled since facing WALTER on NXT in October. Kushida has been out of action with a hairline fracture of his wrist, with him having suffered the injury prior to his match against WALTER.

Rhea Ripley vs. Dakota Kai is also set for tonight’s NXT.

WWE NXT video highlights: WALTER vs. Kushida

A big first-time matchup headlined last night’s episode of NXT.

As the “Wednesday Night War” reached its second week, WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER faced off with Kushida in NXT’s main event. WALTER’s title wasn’t on the line in the match.

Another non-title match took place last night, with NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong facing Isaiah “Swerve” Scott. Former North American Champion Velveteen Dream appeared after the match and revealed that he’ll be getting his rematch for Strong’s title in two weeks.

Tommaso Ciampa also appeared after Strong vs. Scott and continued to have his eyes on Adam Cole’s NXT Championship.

In the Women’s title picture, Rhea Ripley defeated Aliyah and Bianca Belair defeated Dakota Kai last night. Both cut post-match promos and said they want the next shot at Shayna Baszler’s title

One title change took place last night, with Lio Rush defeating Drew Gulak to win the Cruiserweight Championship.

WWE NXT live results: WALTER vs. Kushida, Drew Gulak vs. Lio Rush

Preview by Joseph Currier

Week two of the “Wednesday Night War” takes place tonight, with three matches announced in advance for NXT.

Two of those are non-title matches involving champions. WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER will take on Kushida, and NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong will face Isaiah “Swerve” Scott.

One championship will be on the line tonight as Lio Rush challenges for Drew Gulak’s Cruiserweight title. Rush became the number one contender by defeating Oney Lorcan three weeks ago.

NXT will follow up on two former champions making their returns last week. After Adam Cole retained his NXT Championship against Matt Riddle, Finn Balor confronted Cole and declared that he’s back in NXT.

Nearly seven months after undergoing neck surgery, Tommaso Ciampa also returned last Wednesday. He confronted Cole after Undisputed Era’s Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish retained their NXT Tag Team titles against The Street Profits in the main event.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

A title match kicked off the show.

Lio Rush defeated Drew Gulak to win the NXT Cruiserweight Championship

Rush pinned Gulak after a frog splash. This was good. My only complaint was Rush’s best comeback came during a commercial break. Other than that, great way to open the show.

Rush started on fire, but Gulak soon cut him off using his catch-as-catch-can style. Rush fought back but lost a chop exchange. Rush was perched on the top turnbuckle when Gulak kicked him off the ropes. Rush fell on some ringside attendant plants, and they caught him before a commerical break. The split screen is back this week.

During the break, Gulak dashed some hope spots and generally worked over Rush. Suddenly, Rush made a comeback while the commercials were still playing. He used a tilt-a-whirl into a tornado DDT for a near fall.

Back from commercial, Gulak turned Rush for a flip and mowed him down with a lariat to turn the tide again. Rush answered back with a roll up for a two count. Gulak then trapped Rush in a Dragon sleeper. Rush reversed the hold, but Gulak soon picked him for a Cyclone Crash. Rush got his foot on the bottom rope to break the count. The crowd chanted “Lio” in support.

Rush executed a frog splash, and Mauro Ranallo noted it was Eddie Guerrero’s birthday. He would have been 52 years old today. We miss you, Eddie.

Springboarding off a rope, Rush caught Gulak with a stunner. Rush climbed the turnbuckles to deliver an Art Barr frog splash to score the pinfall and win the title.

Gulak personally presented Rush with the belt after the match as if he was passing the torch in a show of respect.

Next up was a Finn Balor vignette. This was very well done, as per usual with WWE. They put out some great video packages. That was more evident with the next vignette.

Another video package hyped the return of Tegan Nox, and then she was announced for next week’s NXT show.

Rhea Ripley defeated Aliyah (w/ Vanessa Borne)

Ripley mauled Aliyah in a short squash match. Ripley no sold any offense, and she looked like a killer. She applied a standing scorpion leglock, and then she spun around with a giant swing while still applying the hold. She dropped down into a sit-out facebuster with the hold still locked in, and Aliyah soon tapped out.

Ripley got the house microphone and called out NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler. She warned Baszler that she was coming for her and the championship.

The announce team — Mauro, Beth Phoenix and Nigel McGuinness — plugged the WWE press conference in Las Vegas. Yada yada yada.

The next entrance at first gave me flashbacks to the Destruction Crew in the AWA, but this turned out to be much different. It was Breezango doing a construction gimmick. They even had safety vests and hard hats.

Jaxon Ryker interrupted the fun as he carried out the team of Ever-Rise. Thet were beaten up and laid out. They were supposed to be the opponents for Breezango, but the Forgotten Sons stole their match after beating them up. That would normally be assault, but in NXT that is apparently an opportunity.

The Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake w/ Jaxon Ryker) defeated Breezango (Tyler Breeze & Fandango)

Cutler pinned Fandango after Memory Remains. They had a WWE style tag condensed down to mere minutes.

The Sons got heat on Breeze before a hot tag to Fandango. He ran wild and executed a Falcon Arrow for a two count. Later he did a sunset bomb for another near fall.

Ryker interfered and posted Breeze. Fandango wiped him out with a tope con giro. Distracted with Ryker, Fandango fell victim to a tope from Blake.

The Forgotten Sons used their Memory Remains finisher on Fandango and Cutler covered him for the pinfalll.

An excellent vignette hyped Keith Lee vs. Donovan Dijak for another match in their rivalry next week on NXT. The video package was great as their previous one, and the match should be as well.

Cameron Grimes defeated Boa

Grimes won another match in seconds with a double foot stomp. The three count took longer than the match itself.

Killian Dain ran in after the match, and Grimes quickly bailed out of the ring. He hightailed out of there, and Dain turned his attention to Boa.

Dain pummeled Boa, and then he delivered some Vader bombs. Dain dumped Boa on the announce desk, glared at the commentators, and then he left the scene.

Damien Priest narrated a video package talking about why he laid out Pete Dunne last week on NXT. Priest wants to make his name live forever at the expense of Dunne’s name. Sounded a lot better when he said it than it reads.

A hot match is headlining the top of the hour.

NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong defeated Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in a non-title match

Strong submitted Scott after a distraction by Undisputed Era. The story was Strong was overconfident and taking Scott lightly. He paid for that as Scott got to shine throughout the match.

They started the match with grappling. Strong started talking trash, and Scott made him eat his words with a side kick out of nowhere. Scott then did a cartwheel into a quebrada. Strong tried to cut him off, and Scott fought back with a headscissors and a shotgun dropkick. Scott had Strong reeling.

Strong struck down Scott with hard chops, and then Strong targeted the back. Strong dashed a flipping hope spot, and he dropped Scott into a backbreaker. Strong would dash another hope spot moments later.

They fought through a commercial break with Roddy in control. He worked over Scott.

After the break, Scott made a comeback. He ran wild and leapt into a flying uppercut. Scott hit a superkick followed by a draping DDT for a near fall.

Strong’s stablemates came out to help as the rest of Undisputed Era made their way to ringside. About that time, Scott springed into action with a flatliner and a superkick for a two count. With Strong hanging from the ropes. Scott did a slingshot double foot stomp to the outside.

Undisputed Era distracted Scott, which allowed Strong to strike with a jumping knee. He followed with a psycho knee and End of Heartache. Strong then applied a Boston crab, and Scott tapped out.

NXT Champion Adam Cole started cutting a promo when he was interrupted by Velveteen Dream. He was on a podium high above the Full Sail Arena. He tried to mock Strong with a naked photo of Strong doing the Shawn Michaels gimmick with the title belt covering his private parts. Dream made a penis joke, and he showed a photoshopped picture to make fun of Strong. Not very funny, but they tried.

Tommaso Ciampa saved a dying segment as he stalked to the ring to confront Undisputed Era. They begged off and backpedaled. “Goldie, daddy’s home,” Ciampa said. That was his nickname for the NXT Championship belt.

Angel Garza was backstage flirting with Cathy Kelley trying to get her to interview him. She tried to ignore him in search of Ciampa. She wanted to interview Ciampa after the confrontation in the ring. She found him, but Garza interrupted them. So Ciampa beat up Garza, and then he strolled off.

Bianca Belair defeated Dakota Kai

Belair pinned Kai after hitting KOD.

Kai had Belair reeling at the outset until Belair cut her off. Belair showed her fire and she also toyed with Kai. There was a commercial break in this match, but no split screen.

Wouldn’t you know, Kai started her comeback during the break. Too bad we did not get to see it. She was running wild when the show returned.

Kai got some near falls in the closing moments. Belair put a stop to that with a chicken wing facebuster. A standing shooting star netted Belair another two count.

Kai countered some moves for a few last second near falls. Belair dodged a kick, and she executed KOD for the pinfall.

Belair after the match cut a promo on Rhea Ripley. She is standing in the way of anyone wanting to face Baszler. She herself wants another match with the champ.

The announcers again plugged the press conference in Las Vegas. After that came a Donovan Dijak promo on Keith Lee. This further hyped their match for next week.

Another Finn Balor vignette profiled his return to NXT.

Pete Dunne cut a promo on Damian Priest. Dunne vs. Priest was announced for next week on NXT.

NXT UK Champion WALTER defeated KUSHIDA in a non-title match

WALTER pinned Kushida after delivering a Rainmaker. This was great. Walter still looked like a monster, but Kushida got to shine plenty as he more than hung with him in the macth. This was probably Kushida’s best television match since debuting in NXT.

They really played up the side difference at the start. Walter was bullying Kushida, but Kushida was able to out-wrestle him. That angered Walter. He pitched a fit before a commercial break. No split screen again, and this was the main event. That in-set gimmick is so random when they do it.

Kushida was making a comeback as the show returned from break. Kushida slipped on the ropes doing an attempted springboard. Walter then mowed him down with a big boot to the face.

Walter proceeded to get heat on Kushida. He clubbed him with chops and strikes. Kushida in a counter dropped Walter with a DDT.

In the middle of his comeback, Kushida did a flying tomahawk like he was Tatanka. Kushida did his signature cartwheel into a dropkick.

Walter teased taking a sunset bomb on the floor, but he just stomped Kushida instead. However, Walter posted himself moments later on the apron. Kushida leapt up to hook Walter in a DDT on a floor.

They teased a count out. Kushida tried applying the Hoverboard Lock, but he could only get a simplier armlock. Walter powered out, and he caught Kushida in a sleeper hold.

Kushida with an O’Connor roll, and Walter countered with a sleeper. Kushida rolled out, and he went for a cross armbreaker. Walter blocked the hold, but Kushida used a small package to get a two count.

They traded strikes and holds down the stretch. Walter gave him a suplex and a pumphandle German suplex for a near fall. Kushida kicked out at the last moment.

Perched on the top rope, they fell into the ring doing an avalanche spot into a Hoverboard Lock. Walter got a foot on the rope to break the hold. Kuhida went for the submission again, but Walter countered with a shotgun dropkick.

Walter powerbombed Kushida, but he kicked out of a pinning attempt. Walter then delivered a Rainmaker to finish the match.

Before the show closed, Cathy Kelley announced Roderick Strong vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT North American Champiobship in two weeks time.

WALTER vs. Kushida announced for next week’s NXT

A first-time matchup will be taking place on next week’s episode of NXT.

WWE has announced that WALTER will face Kushida on NXT next Wednesday (October 9). It wasn’t indicated that WALTER’s WWE United Kingdom Championship will be on the line.

On NXT’s live premiere two weeks ago, there was an angle where WALTER’s Imperium stablemates (Marcel Barthel, Fabian Aichner & Alexander Wolfe) attacked Denzel Dejournette before he was supposed to face Kushida. Kushida then interrupted a promo by WALTER, avoided Imperium’s attacks, and hit a kick on WALTER.

Kushida teamed with Breezango and defeated Barthel, Aichner & Wolfe on NXT last week. WALTER appeared and laid out Kushida on the stage after the match.

Next Wednesday will be the second week of the NXT vs. AEW “Wednesday Night War.” Drew Gulak defending his Cruiserweight Championship against Lio Rush has also been announced for next week’s NXT.

Rush was set up as Gulak’s next challenger by defeating Oney Lorcan in a number one contender’s match on NXT two weeks ago.

WALTER challenges Kushida to face Imperium in six-man tag match

A six-man tag match looks to have been added to the lineup for this week’s NXT.

WWE posted a video today where WALTER challenged Kushida to find two partners and face Imperium in a six-man tag this Wednesday. This will be the second episode of NXT since it moved to being a live two-hour show.

On NXT’s live premiere last week, there was an angle where Imperium’s Marcel Barthel, Fabian Aichner & Alexander Wolfe took out Denzel Dejournette before he was scheduled to face Kushida. WALTER then joined his stablemates, but his promo was interrupted by Kushida. Kushida avoided Imperium’s attacks and fought them off.

WWE hasn’t announced which three Imperium members will be taking part in the six-man tag match.

The segment with Imperium and Kushida was part of the second hour of last week’s NXT. This Wednesday’s show will again air live on USA Network for the first hour and then switch to streaming live on the WWE Network for the second hour. NXT will move to airing live on USA for both hours starting on Wednesday, October 2.

Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain in a street fight, Dominic Dijakovic vs. Keith Lee, and the return of Dakota Kai have been announced for this week’s NXT. The winner of Riddle vs. Dain will become the number one contender to Adam Cole’s NXT Championship.

Full Recap —

Billy Kirkwood, James R. Kennedy, and Jen Louise welcomed us to the O2 Academy in Glasgow, Scotland and hyped up the show, focusing on the main event between NXT’s Kushida and Just Justice Jackie Polo.

Kenny Williams & Iestyn Rees defeated More Than Hype (LJ Cleary, Nathan Martin & Darren Kearney) in a two-on-three handicap match (9:19)

NXT UK’s Williams got on the mic before the match and cut a heel promo saying he challenged MTH because he wanted to prove that the only thing worse than the trainees in Scotland are the trainees from Ireland. MTH appeared at ICW’s King of Hawners 2019 six-man tag tournament.

Williams and Martin started off with some nice chain wrestling before the energetic Cleary was tagged in. Williams was frustrated in the opening exchanges as MTH matched him at every step. Martin and Kearney took out Rees with dives to the outside, but Rees was quickly back in to knock down his smaller Irish opponents.

Williams and Rees beat down Cleary, but Martin soon got the hot tag, knocked Rees off the apron, and hit an enzuigiri on Williams. The threesome nearly came close to winning after a frog splash from Cleary, but Williams kicked out at two. Rees quickly re-entered the ring and speared all three of MTH and dragged Williams over Cleary to pick up the win.

ICW Women’s Champion Kasey (w/ The Wee Man) defeated Aivil to retain the title (3:34)

A quick weapon-filled brawl. Kasey is the current three-time ICW Women’s Champion and has won the title at this event previously (two years ago against NXT UK’s Kay Lee Ray in 42 seconds). Wee Man got on the mic before the match and said that Kasey could beat up any man in the building.

Aivil went after Kasey with a kendo stick and chased her around ringside until she was halted by a chair to the face. Kasey hit a few more chair shots inside the ring, but Aivil fought back — dropkicking the chair into the champion’s face.

Aivil was going for a submission when two of the Wee Man’s clients — the POD (Ashton Smith and Rampage Brown) — came to ringside and distracted Aivil, allowing Kasey to hit another chair shot and a chair-assisted kick to the face to pick up the win.

Rampage Brown was going for a shoulder breaker on Aivil after the bell when the POD’s opponents The Purge (Krobar and Stevie James) came to make the save.

The Purge (Krobar & Stevie James) defeated The POD (Ashton Smith & Rampage Brown) (8:04)

There was a big brawl in the opening moments with Krobar fighting around ringside and even into the crowd. Brown hit a big powerslam on James for a two count early on and the POD kept on top of James to cut him off from his corner.

Krobar got the hot tag and hit a big flying clothesline and locked Brown in a triangle, but the big man powered out. Smith and James had a good exchange inside the ring as Brown took out Krobar with a chair shot on the outside. The POD came close with a superkick/uranage combination on James, who kicked out at the last moment.

Krobar fought back in and knocked Brown to the outside. The Purge then hit the Murder Death Kill spike piledriver onto Smith and picked up the win.

Mark Coffey defeated Andy Wild (8:05)

Two masked assailants of Coffey unsuccessfully interfered early on, but the distraction was good enough for Coffey to take the advantage.

Coffey focused his attack on Wild’s ribs throughout. Wild fought back, but the masked men at ringside distracted him again during his comeback and Coffey rolled him up in a sunset flip to pick up the flash pinfall victory. Wild needed help to the back with his injured ribs.

Liam Thompson defeated Joe Coffey to win the ICW Zero G Championship (21:30)

This match was contested under official professional wrestling rules as opposed to ICW’s usual more lenient approach. They played up Thompson’s comeback from a career-threatening neck injury, re-debuting at this event last year and his chase to this title shot at this point in his career.

They didn’t outright say it, but they inferred that this could be Thompson’s last chance at gold in ICW if he didn’t get the job done here.

Thompson hit a missile dropkick through the ropes to Coffey on the outside but got caught coming off the top as Coffey hit a big swing and a slingshot to the outside. A middle rope suplex and a German suplex followed for Coffey, but the referee was distracted by a missing turnbuckle pad and couldn’t make the count.

Both then blocked attempts at being thrown into the exposed turnbuckle, but Coffey kept on top of his challenger. Thompson fought back and went up top again and hit his missile dropkick this time. He went to the well once too often and missed a diving headbutt from the top. Coffey retaliated with splashes in the corner, a big double-jump crossbody off the top rope, and a running diving headbutt but only got a two count.

They had a forearm exchange as the crowd got more and more into this intense fight. Thompson hit two running dropkicks in the corner and a Northern Lights suplex for a close two count.

Thompson went for another running dropkick but hit the ref as Coffey moved. Thompson took advantage of the official being down and kicked Coffey below the belt. He then brought out his sink from under the ring, with Kennedy on commentary saying he is sinking to new levels in order to win the title.

Coffey hit a low blow of his own when Thompson was going for a sink shot. Coffey then hit a pedigree in a nod to “his uncle Paul” — as Kirkwood said on commentary. He then completed his Triple H routine by taking a sledgehammer out from under the ring and spitting water from the apron.

Coffey handcuffed Thompson to the ropes as he took the sledgehammer to Thompson’s beloved sink. The handcuffs broke and Thompson was let loose. He hit a sit-out powerbomb and the referee just made it back to make the cover, but Coffey kicked out at the last moment.

Coffey rolled to the outside, but Thompson took him out with a suicide dive. Back inside, Coffey caught Thompson coming off the top rope and hit a spinning sidewalk slam for another close two count. Coffey hit All the Best for the Bells (his discus lariat), but Thompson kicked out.

Thompson dodged as Coffey launched himself at him and Coffey collided head-first with the exposed turnbuckle. A backstabber by Thompson followed, then another off the top rope that finished off the Iron King and crowned Thompson the new Zero G Champion. They shook hands after the bell.

Paul Robinson defeated Krieger (8:51)

Robinson got into a shoving match with a fan at ringside as he made his entrance.

Krieger came flying out with a running dropkick and a European uppercut off the middle rope, but Robinson soon came back with intense right hands. Krieger threw Robinson from corner to corner, but Robinson went after Krieger’s knee to ground the bigger man.

They went up top and Robinson hit a moonsault into a DDT for a close two count. Krieger hit a Death Valley Driver for a near fall and followed up with mounted right hands.

Krieger then brought out a bag of thumbtacks and spread them across the canvas. Robinson went into them via a pop-up powerbomb but hulked up, seemingly unfazed, and threw a handful of tacks in Krieger’s eyes and put him head-first into the tacks with a jumping foot stomp and picked up the win.

He attacked Krieger with a chair after the bell. Robinson got on the mic and said he was the hardest man in Glasgow. This brought out Kid Fite, who shut Robinson up with a right hand to the jaw. The security and officials held them apart and Fite shouted to the crowd that he was going to go get Robinson.

Leyton Buzzard defeated Joe Hendry with Hendry’s ICW career on the line (12:25)

The stipulations for this one were if Hendry lost, he had to leave ICW. If Buzzard lost, he had to wear a mask and not say a word until after Fear and Loathing in November. This was a battle between student and teacher.

Buzzard hit a missile dropkick off the top rope, but Hendry soon fought back and hit a big codebreaker out of the corner. Buzzard kicked out strong at one.

Buzzard then hit Hendry’s own fallaway slam and a 450 splash, but Hendry kicked out at the last moment. Hendry fought back and hit a butterfly suplex into a knee to the face, followed up by a steamroller running clothesline that knocked the lighter Buzzard halfway across the ring. A dominator followed, with Buzzard kicking out.

Hendry locked in an ankle lock and grapevined the leg, but Buzzard did not tap out — he reversed it! Buzzard then kicked out of a low blow, fallaway slam, and Death Valley Driver slam too as it seemed nothing would put him away. Moments later, Buzzard slipped out of another fallaway slam, hit a uranage of his own, and a second 450 splash and picked up the win.

Hendry got on the mic after the match and put over Leyton Buzzard. He said tonight didn’t make Buzzard a star — he was already a star.

The Kings of the North (Bonesaw & Corvin) defeated Aaron Echo & Kieran Kelly (11:17)

There was a flying start as Echo hit a diving clothesline over the top rope and Kelly came off the top with a double crossbody during their entrance. Kelly hit a powerbomb-assisted meteora from the top rope but soon fell to his stronger opponents.

KOTN hit a backstabber/rolling senton combination as Kelly stretched and crawled for a tag. Kelly kicked out of a big Death Valley Driver and eventually made the hot tag to Echo.

Echo ran wild on KOTN and was joined by Kelly, who came close with a back suplex-assisted moonsault. Kelly hit a double dropkick and hulked up but ran right into a double teamed cutter, which gave the Kings of the North the win.

Kushida defeated Just Justice Jackie Polo (w/ The Warden) (22:21)

This was billed as Just Justice’s farewell match in ICW. Ring announcer Simon Cassidy rang off all of Kushida’s NJPW title reigns and tournament wins, as well as Polo’s ICW title reigns to give it the big match feel.

There was around a 40 lb size difference here and it didn’t take long for Polo to show his superior size and strength in the opening chain wrestling exchanges. Kushida showed his skills though and easily transitioned into various crossfaces while on the mat.

Kushida hit a springboard back elbow, then went back to the ground game and arm attack and locked Polo in a modified hammerlock. Polo came back with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and a vertical suplex.

Polo had the crowd in the palm of his hands as he beat down Kushida with a bear hug, a Northern Lights suplex, and a driving elbow from the middle rope. Kushida tried to fight back, but Polo floored him with a clothesline.

Kushida fought back with a tilt-a-whirl DDT, a combination of kicks, and a rolling cartwheel into a dropkick. He went for a big pump kick, but Polo dodged it and floored him again with a clothesline.

Polo hit the 10 punches in the corner, but Kushida somehow handspring kicked Polo to the outside and hit a diving senton to the floor. Polo’s strength advantage showed again on the outside as he crotched Kushida on the ring post, then dropped him back-first on the guardrail.

Back inside, Polo went for another driving elbow but Kushida caught him in a cross armbreaker. Polo powered out of it. Kushida hit another handspring, but Polo caught him in the electric chair position and slammed him face-first to the mat.

Kushida fought back with a step-up kick, but Polo again powered him into a shoulder breaker and locked him in a crossface.

They were then on the top rope. Kushida blocked a superplex and took Polo down with a flying armbar. He hit a springboard cutter, then transitioned into the Hoverboard Lock. Polo could do nothing but tap out.

After the match, Kenny Williams came out and demanded an apology from Kushida. Williams said he has been called a second-rate Kushida all his career and that two years ago he didn’t even know who Kushida was. He wanted Kushida to apologize and say he was a second-rate Kenny Williams.

Polo came in and distracted Williams to let Kushida hit his big punch and knock Williams down and out. Kushida shook hands with Polo and left the ring to him to receive his last ICW ovation.

Polo took the mic and thanked Kushida for stepping in. He said he didn’t ask for Kushida or to be in the main event, he only asked to be able to address the crowd. He talked about his Just Justice character and said that tonight was a farewell to it.

Polo said he didn’t know when he is going to return or what he will look like, but when (or if) he comes back it will be to give the best wrestling performance he can.
