WWE NXT live results: Briggs & Jensen vs. Gallus Pub Rules match

Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen are set to throw down with Gallus on NXT tonight.

In the main event of tonight’s show, Briggs & Jensen will face Gallus’ Mark Coffey & Wolfgang in a Pub Rules match. There was a confrontation between the two teams last week when Gallus wouldn’t let Briggs & Jensen into their cribbage game. The teams were about to brawl until officials stepped in.

The next competitor for the NXT North American Championship ladder match at Halloween Havoc will be confirmed tonight. Either Wes Lee or Tony D’Angelo will join Carmelo Hayes and Oro Mensah in the five-way ladder match to crown a new North American Champion. The title was relinquished by Solo Sikoa last week.

The Creed Brothers will look to get revenge on Damon Kemp, as Brutus Creed takes on Kemp tonight. The episode will also feature NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose vs. Fallon Henley in a non-title match, Nikkita Lyons vs. Kayden Carter, and Cameron Grimes vs. Joe Gacy.

Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

*************

The show opens with Ilja Dragunov entering the soundstage as he works the crowd like the conductor of an orchestra.

Notably, the show is on tape from Performance Center soundstage in Orlando. So the impending hurricane is not a concern for this show. Thankfully, this show was taped in advance. Everybody in Florida be safe, as Hurricane Ian looks to be a massive storm.

Dragunov enters the ring to deliver an opening monologue. He waxes poetically, and then Dragunov name drops Bron Breakker.

Despite name dropping Breakker, he was the one to interrupt the monologue. Out comes JD McDonagh. They have history in NXT UK.

McDonagh called Dragunov a “dirty, sneaky, little rat.” Dragunov responded by saying he once defeated and forced McDonagh out from NXT UK. McDonagh in return says Dragunov was so beaten up in their match, that Dragunov had to relinquish the NXT UK title. McDonagh sarcastically asks Dragunov how his broken ankle healed up properly.

McDonagh enters the ring and gets face-to-face with Dragunov. McDonagh tells Dragunov this is McDonagh’s time now. McDonagh instructs Dragunov to stay on the “sidelines” where he has been.

McDonagh threatens to end Dragunov’s career of he was to stop him again. Dragunov reacts to getting into McDonagh face, as Dragunov’s own face is flush with a seething rage. They are suddenly interrupted by NXT Champion Bron Breakker.

Breakker strolls out and welcomes Dragunov to NXT. Breakker calls him a “warrior” before also cautioning Dragunov that the NXT title “isn’t going anywhere.”

McDonagh pipes up, saying he is the number one contender. He says he has a good idea. The crowd chants “triple threat” at McDonagh, but he heels on them. The studio audience winds up getting the last laugh. Stay tuned.

McDonagh says he earned his shot, but he still has an idea. He suggests Breakker and Dragunov beat each other up, and McDonagh will face the winner.

Breakker scoffs at the notion like he is a character on a sitcom. Breakker goes to make a math joke, poking fun at his uncle Scott’s infamous promo. Breakker tells McDonagh he has a 33 and one third percent chance of winning. Studio audience pops.

This all leads to Breakker announcing that he will face both Dragunov and McDonagh in a triple threat title match at Halloween Havoc.

Meanwhile, a brawl erupts backstage between Gallus and Briggs & Jensen.

NXT Mandy Rose is headed to the ring, and she cuts a promo ahead of match with Fallon Henley. Rose’s promo is all about Alba Fyre.

Fallon Henley is already in the ring as the show returns from a commercial break.

NXT Champion Mandy Rose (with Gigi Dolan & Jacy Jayne) defeats Fallon Henley in a non-title match

Rose pins Henley clean after the “Kiss By the Rose” finisher.

Rose has her Toxic Attraction teammates in her corner, but Henley is alone. After the pull-apart brawl earlier with Briggs & Jensen, they are unable to be in Henley’s corner.

Shine, heat, and comeback for Henley. Rose cuts off her comeback with a Kiss By the Rose (jumping knee strike). Rose then covers Henley for a pinfall.

Rose cuts a promo on Alba Fyre after the match. Rose threatens Fyre with analogies about fire. Fyre interrupts Rose’s promo, as Fyre appears on the video screen.

Fyre says he does not do verbal warnings, she is more visual. Fyre lights an image on fire, spelling out a hashtag that says “AND NEW” on the ground outside the building.

Apollo Crews has words for Grayson Waller. Crews is still seeking revenge after Waller tried to supposedly blind him, although it really just an eye poke. Crews has a horrifying vision of Waller’s future.

Wes Lee enters the soundstage joined by Connor’s Cure Thriver Quinn “The King Crusher” Molitor. Lee is in action up next.

Xyon Quinn confronts Ilja Dragunov, which looks to set up a match between the two.

Wes Lee defeats Tony D’Angelo (with Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo)

Lee wins via referee stoppage when D’Angelo cannot continue due to injury.

Carmelo Hays and Trick Williams are shown backstage watching the match.

The match goes through a commercial break. Just before the show goes to commercial, the referee ejects Stacks after he interferes in the match. That actually helps D’Angelo, as the distraction by Stacks allows D’Angelo to gain the underhanded advantage.

As if to begin a comeback, Wes Lee is about to hulk up when something seemingly goes wrong. D’Angelo is sent into a middle turnbuckle after taking a drop toehold. D’Angelo tries to stand, but he cannot put weight on his leg. the referee stops the match, as D’Angelo is apparently hurt.

Raquel Rodriquez is the focus of a PSA celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

A vignette highlights NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly, with a day in the life of the champs. Played up for laughs, I guess they are supposed to be funny heels. Kind of like the Honky Tonk Man as IC Champ, except their gimmicks are nothing like the Honky Tonk Man.

Sol Ruca defeats Amari Miller

Ruca pins Miller in Ruca’s in-ring debut on NXT television. Ruca does a Muta clothesline in a corner, and she turns a flip into a double legdrop before scoring the pinfall.

Ruca has plenty of potential and great athleticism, but this match is not Tom Magee against Bret Hart.

On commentary Ruca is described as “standout” college athlete from the University of Oregon, but no mention of her shoot name. She also has a gymnastics background, so they at least gave a clue as to her real name.

Gallus is backstage in a scrum with security. One security dude takes a headbutt from Joe Coffey, and Gallus is forced back into their locker room. This skit leads to Joe Coffey being banned from ringside during the main event.

Joe Gacy (with The Dyad) defeats Cameron Grimes

Gacy pins Grimes after interference by The Dyad.

The match gets under way, and it quickly turns into a brawl. Gacy is getting the better of Grimes, until Grimes comes back with a rally.

Grimes goes for a dive off the apron, but The Dyad are there attempting to block him. Grimes dives over them anyway with a somersault senton on Gacy. However, Grimes momentarily turns his attention to The Dyad.

With Grimes’ attention briefly diverted by The Dyad, Gacy is able to capitalize. Gacy works over Grimes, but Grimes soon fights back. The Dyad thwarts Grimes’ comeback as they interfere again. Grimes takes a lariat that turns him upside down, and Gacy covers him for a three count.

Grayson Waller is freaking out about Apollo Crew’s vision. He vows to hire extra security to protect himself.

An advertisement plugs NXT trading cards … in the year Two Thousand Twenty Two. What is old is new again.

Nikkita Lyons (with Zoey Stark) defeats Kayden Carter (with Katana Chance)

Lyons pins Carter clean in the middle. So, a potential challenger has pins one-half of the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. A tag title match seems imminent.

Lyons counters Carter to deliver a roundhouse kick. Lyons follows up with her splits/legdrop combo, and Lyons covers Carter for a clean pinfall.

This match had “a lot of hype online.” Sure, Vic Joseph. Whatever you say.

A pre-taped skit featured Andre Chase giving a speech at a pep rally on the campus of Chase U. Andre Chase upset Carmelo Hayes in an impromptu match last week on NXT. C

Chase announces he faces Von Wagner next week in a qualifying match, where the winner joins the five-way ladder match at Halloween Havoc to crown a new NXT North American Champion.

By the way, Chase cut a promo on a reporter named “Dave,” saying he don not ask a five star question.

A vignette features Nathan Frazier, and it focuses on his success as a soccer player. Frazier relates that to his best-of-three series against Axiom. The third match in their series in also now a qualifying match, where the winner advances to the ladder match at Halloween Havoc.

Ilja Dragunov defeats Xyon Quinn

Dragunov pins Quinn to win the match.

Vic Joseph on commentary notes this is Dragunov’s first match back since returning from a broken ankle.

While Quinn got plenty of offense, but this was clearly about getting Dragunov over with the audience.

Dragunov fights back on Quinn, and Dragunov lands some wicked strikes. For the finish, Dragunov signals and measures for a flying back elbow. Dragunov then scores a pinfall.

Lash Legend and Wendy Choo cut promos on each other in a pre-taped, post-produced featurette.

Brutus Creed defeats Damon Kemp via disqualification

Kemp is disqualified for using a chair.

Creed meets Kemp on the entrance ramp, and the fights starts with a brawl before the bell.

Creeds throws Kemp around with suplexes. Kemp soon counters, and Kemp applies a neck vice. They work the hold for awhile like this was a house show.

Kemp mocks Creed, which in turn fires up Creed. Kemp is sent out of the ring with a Monty Brown Pounce by Brutus. Being a heel, Kemp grabs a metal folding chair. Kemp hits Creed with the chair, leading to a DQ.

Kemp pummels Creed with chair shots, and an Kemp screams at Creed after the match.

Sanga is usually the one giving out advice, but this week he gets some advice instead in a backstage skit. Sanga is given a pep talk by “Super Diva” Quincy Elliott. Xyon Quinn walks past, and Elliott tells Quinn he does not see the “X” factor in him. Elliott then giggles at Quinn as Elliott turns to leave.

Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark cut a promo vowing to win the women’s tag titles. They are confronted by Toxic Attraction, who warn Lyons & Starks that the odds are three-on-two. A shoot line of fire is ignited by Alba Fyre, as she steps in to join the side of Lyons & Starks. This seems to set up a future trios match.

Plugged for next week on NXT is The Grayson Waller Effect, with two rivals having a face off. Waller’s guests are foes Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade. Also announced for next Tuesday is Andre Chase against Von Wagner in a North American qualifying match. In addition, NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly will deliver a “State of the Commonwealth Address” on next week’s episode of NXT.

Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen defeats Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) in a Pub Rules match

Jensen pins Coffey after a wild, weapons-filled brawl. Gallus is handcuffed by police officers after a post-match angle, where Joe Coffey punches a referee.

Joe Coffey is banned from ringside after headbutting security earlier in the show, but he runs in during the match nonetheless.

Pub Rules basically means a hardcore match. Trash cans are scattered around ringside. Tables and chairs are also prevalent.

The two teams fought in street clothes like they are in a bunkhouse match, which fits Briggs & Jensen’s gimmick.

This is probably not the first pub brawl in pro wrestling history to start over a cribbage game. Old school fans will get that reference.

Briggs brings a rope to the ring like he is El Texano Jr. Likely only lucha libre fans will get that reference.

The brawling goes through a split-screen commercial break as the fight continues.

The two teams whip each other with leather belts. Briggs & Jensen do the Ray Traylor spot where they baseball slide out of the ring and punch their foes. Makes me nostalgic for the Big Bossman.

A deathmatch breaks out as glass soon becomes involved in the melee. Briggs & Jensen shatter beer mugs on Mark Coffey & Wolfgang.

Despite being banned from ringside, Joe Coffey runs in. He then takes a Nestea Plunge through a table at ringside. In the ring, Wolfgang is hiplocked through a table.

In the meantime, Mark Coffey is stuffed upside down into a trash can. He gets to his feet with the trash can still over his head, and Coffey stumbles around like Terry Funk trapped in the can. Briggs & Jensen deliver a high-low combo on Coffey, and Jensen covers Coffey for a pinfall.

Fallon Henley joins Briggs & Jensen in the ring to celebrate their win.

Referees pour out to keep Gallus from getting back into the ring. Joe Coffey punches a ref, and out comes a bunch of police officers. Gallus is handcuffed by police and led away as the show closes.

Gallus is being “suspended indefinitely” as part of the angle.

Two segments announced for WWE NXT

WWE has announced a pair of segments for the next edition of NXT.

Ahead of the Great American Bash, NXT Champion Bron Breakker will go face-to-face with Cameron Grimes on NXT this Tuesday night. Breakker vs. Grimes for the NXT Championship is set for the special Great American Bash episode of NXT that’s taking place on Tuesday, July 5.

New NXT UK Tag Team Champions Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen will also “address their shocking title win” on NXT this Tuesday. Briggs & Jensen won a fatal four-way elimination match on NXT UK last Thursday to win the vacant NXT UK Tag Team titles.

It was originally announced that Briggs & Jensen were heading to the United Kingdom to challenge Oliver Carter & Ashton Smith for the NXT UK Tag Team Championship, but Carter & Smith had to vacate the titles due to Smith suffering a ruptured MCL.

Briggs & Jensen defeated Teoman & Rohan Raja, Dave Mastiff & Jack Starz, and Mark Andrews & Wild Boar in the four-way elimination match to be crowned as the new champions.

The updated lineup for Tuesday’s NXT is listed below:

  • NXT Women’s Tag Team title number one contender’s match: Roxanne Perez & Cora Jade vs. Katana Chance & Kayden Carter
  • Indi Hartwell vs. Kiana James
  • Sanga vs. Xyon Quinn
  • Nikkita Lyons returns
  • NXT Champion Bron Breakker and Cameron Grimes go face-to-face
  • Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen address their NXT UK Tag Team title win

Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen win vacant NXT UK Tag Team titles

NXT UK has new Tag Team Champions as Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen won the belts on Thursday’s show.

The titles were declared vacant at the beginning of the show after Ashton Smith revealed he suffered a ruptured MCL when winning the titles, leading to he and Oliver Carter relinquishing them.

That led to a four-way elimination match being made for Thursday’s show featuring the brand-debuting Briggs & Jensen against Dave Mastiff & Jack Starz, Mark Andrews & Wild Boar and Die Familie (Teoman & Rohan Raja).

Briggs & Jensen and Teoman & Raja were the final two teams as the Americans hit a high/low on Raja to get the pin and title win in their promotional debut.

It’s the first taste of gold in either NXT or NXT UK for Briggs & Jensen. They become the seventh tag team champions in NXT UK history.

The match happened Wednesday during the first night of TV tapings. It’s unknown how long the duo will stay on the brand and what direction things will take during Thursday’s taping.

Smith’s timetable for a return is unknown. He and Carter had a short reign as champions, roughly three weeks in TV time, after defeating Moustache Mountain for the titles earlier this month.

Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen to challenge for NXT UK Tag Team titles

An NXT 2.0 team is getting a shot at the NXT UK Tag Team titles.

On the NXT UK episode that airs next Thursday, Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen will challenge Oliver Carter & Ashton Smith for the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. It will be Smith & Carter’s first defense since winning the titles.

Carter & Smith became NXT UK Tag Team Champions by defeating Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) and Die Familie (Teoman & Rohan Raja) in a triple threat match on NXT UK two weeks ago.

Fallon Henley, who is aligned with Briggs & Jensen in NXT 2.0, will also be appearing with them on NXT UK.

A promo from Briggs, Jensen, and Henley aired on NXT UK this week. Briggs said it will be an honor to face Carter & Smith.

https://twitter.com/NXTUK/status/1537521644368977925

Briggs & Jensen’s team debuted following last September’s NXT 2.0 rebrand. The story of their partnership is that they bonded after getting into a bar fight with each other.

Briggs & Jensen are currently feuding with Von Wagner on NXT 2.0.

It’s also been announced that NXT 2.0’s Sarray will be in action against Nina Samuels on NXT UK next Thursday.

NXT 2.0’s Wagner, Lash Legend, Ivy Nile, and Damon Kemp have also recently appeared on NXT UK. They took part in April’s NXT UK television tapings.

Alba Fyre vs. Tatum Paxley, Josh Briggs vs. Von Wagner added to WWE NXT

Two new matches have been added to Tuesday’s NXT.

Josh Briggs vs. Von Wagner and Alba Fyre vs. Tatum Paxley have been added. This is in addition to the finals of the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament, where Roxanne Perez will face Tiffany Stratton in the finals.

On tonight’s NXT In Your House, a video package aired showing Alba Fyre. After the video had ended, Lash Legend backstage didn’t seem impressed by Fyre and didn’t want to face her. Paxley disagreed with Legend and said that she would be the one to step up and challenge Fyre.

Von Wagner caused a distraction on NXT this past Tuesday, allowing Grayson Waller to defeat Briggs in a singles match. Wagner attacked Briggs after the match but was eventually called off by Sofia Cromwell.

Here’s the lineup so far for Tuesday:

  • Roxanne Perez vs. Tiffany Stratton in the Women’s NXT Breakout Tournament finals
  • Josh Briggs vs. Von Wagner
  • Tatum Paxley vs. Alba Fyre

NXT Level Up results: Josh Briggs vs. Quincy Elliott

Javier Bernal defeated Bryson Montana

This was a nothing match. This was Montana’s Level Up debut. He looked clean enough in the ring.

The match opened with back and forth. Bernal used arm drags to take Montana to the mat, and Montana answered with slams. Eventually, Montana locked Bernal in a torture rack variation; once Bernal escaped, he connected with a bunch of strikes, a dropkick, and a double knee facebreaker. Bernal then pinned Montana to bring this match to a close.

Ivy Nile defeated Yulisa Leon

Was this perfect? No. Did I love every moment? Absolutely. If there is a reason to watch NXT Level Up, it is Ivy Nile.

Leon started the match with an awkward takedown into the corner. Nile stood up, scored a takedown of her own, and immediately turned her attention to the arm of Leon. Leon escaped the hold and landed some strikes, rocking Nile. Leon took Nile back to the mat and tried for multiple quick pin attempts but couldn’t close things out.

Leon tried standing Nile up, perhaps for a suplex, but Nile reversed into a neckbreaker. From the ground, the pair exchanged strikes, building to a standing position. Nile won out but couldn’t connect with anything substantial while standing. Leon capitalized, catching Nile with a scoop slam. Leon tried pinning Nile, almost in a north-south position; this was the perfect opening for Nile, who turned the pin into a dragon sleeper to close the match.

Josh Briggs defeated Quincy Elliott

This wasn’t great.

Briggs gained the advantage early, knocking Elliott to his knees. After landing a punch to a grounded Elliott, Briggs celebrated with a high-five to Brooks Jensen; Briggs hurt his hand because Jensen was wearing a cast. This opened the door for Elliott, who took advantage with some heavy strikes and slams.

After an extended period of Elliott control, Briggs dodged a banzai drop. Briggs responded with some punches and a big boot to rock Elliott. Elliott tried to fight back with a corner splash, but Briggs bounced back with a lariat to win the match.

WWE NXT live results: Fatal four-way Tag Team title match

The fourth week of NXT 2.0 takes place tonight.

The NXT Tag Team titles will be on the line as MSK defend against Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen, Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams, and The Grizzled Young Veterans in a fatal four-way match. The match was originally announced as an eight-man tag before being changed.

Tonight’s show will also feature Odyssey Jones vs. LA Knight, Indi Hartwell vs. Mei Ying, Ikemen Jiro vs. Joe Gacy, Cora Jade in action, the debut of Tony D’Angelo, and Mandy Rose vs. Ember Moon.

Rose vs. Moon will kick off tonight’s show. Last week, Rose set her sights on the NXT Women’s Championship as Toxic Attraction attacked Raquel Gonzalez following her title defense against Franky Monet. Rose laid out Gonzalez with a knee strike and then posed with Gonzalez’s NXT Women’s title belt.

We may also find out what’s next for NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa and Bron Breakker, who are on a collision course toward a match against each other.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with Vic Joseph explaining that the original eight-man tag was turned into a four-way tag team match because nobody could get along.

Mandy Rose (with Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolan) defeated Ember Moon

A fine, albeit short match. Not feeling hopeful for Ember’s future in this new NXT.

Moon gained control early in the match, putting Rose in a tree of woe position. The rest of Toxic Attraction pulled her out of the ring. Moon responded with a tope suicida that took out Jayne. Rose cut off Moon as she was re-entering the ring and hit a reverse suplex for a two count. Rose was in control until Moon cut her off with a punch.

Moon went to the middle rope and connected with a codebreaker for a nearfall. She missed the Eclipse then walked right into a knee strike by Rose and was pinned.

On commentary, Beth Phoenix said that Adam will handle their business, in reference to the angle on SmackDown where Seth Rollins invaded Edge and Beth’s house.

Legado Del Fantasma bragged about taking out Hit Row, who are now moving to SmackDown as a result of the Draft. Escobar challenged Swerve for the NXT North American Championship.

LA Knight defeated Odyssey Jones

Basic match, but I thought Jones looked very good here for what they want him to do. The finish was WWE 101 booking where the guy is on offense for the bulk of the match then loses after taking one move, which is ludicrous.

Crowd chanted for Jones as the match started. Jones splashed Knight and threw him around like a ragdoll in the ring. Knight exited the ring as Jones stalked Knight, who found an opening by tripping Jones, sending him to the middle turnbuckle.

Knight remained in control until he tried to bodyslam Jones, who responded by splashing Knight in a counter. Jones hit a knee to the gut when Andre Chase appeared on the apron to distract Jones. This allowed Knight to plant Jones with a reverse cutter for the win, with Chase holding down Jones’ foot.

McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Cameron Grimes, who put over all the current romances going on in NXT. He said that he was on a search to find a lucky lady. Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland walked in. Dunne said he was the baddest man in NXT. He challenged Grimes to a match. Grimes ignored him and instead started to chat with some ladies nearby.

Kyle O’Reilly walked up to Von Wagner in the locker room and asked why he’s had his back for the last two weeks. Wagner referred to himself in the third person strangely and said that O’Reilly has heart. O’Reilly said after the last year, he doesn’t trust anybody and told Wagner to stay out of his way.

Tommaso Ciampa came out for a promo. He said Halloween Havoc returns October 26 on NXT, and the champ needs an opponent. He mentioned one man in particular who says he’s not a patient man and that he wants to be the flag bearer in NXT. Ciampa said actions speak louder than words. He asked who had the balls to take the NXT title from him.

This brought out Bron Breakker. He told Ciampa that he’s shown nothing for respect for him. He wants to be the NXT Champion. He said he has the biggest balls in the locker room and that he and the crowd want the title shot. Ciampa said the difference between him and Breakker is that Breakker wants the NXT title, but Ciampa needs it. He told Breakker that he has three weeks to go from an intern to a PHD, accepting his challenge.

It is hilarious that Breakker is a Steiner with a capital S, looking like his father, wrestling like a Steiner and cutting promos just like Scott, yet everyone on TV is banned from stating the obvious. The WWE Universe is a universe completely disconnected from ours.

Joe Gacy in a backstage promo said that while social media crashed, he knew one platform that won’t crash: NXT 2.0. He will use the ring as our safe space, conflict can be resolved peacefully and that yes, there can be two winners.

Indi Hartwell and Persia Pirotta were talking about how many condoms Hartwell used during her honeymoon backstage when they opened a creepy door they saw was filled with smoke. Mei Ying and Boa were inside, with Boa telling them to get out.

Joe Gacy defeated Ikemen Jiro

Another short match. They are 100% into this Gacy gimmick.

Gacy offered a handshake, with Jiro accepting. After Ikemen connected with a strike, Gacy told Jiro to hit him again. Commentary mentioned that Gacy has received national attention as a result of what WWE thinks are woke promos. Gacy hit a clothesline in the corner, then a suplex. Ikemen cut him off with a sloppy DDT then used his jacket for a comeback.

Ikemen hit a nice hurricanrana off the top rope but missed a knee strike. Gacy springboarded off the ropes then planted Ikemen with a clothesline for the win.

After the match, Gacy lifted Ikemen to his feet and hugged him. Ikemen looked confused. As Gacy was walking to the back, a creepy bald man stared at him in the stands. Turns out, the creepy bald man was in fact Parker Boudreaux, who looked unrecognizable. He is going under the name Harland in NXT.

Cora Jade, whose gimmick is “skateboarder”, is up next.

Duke Hudson is now a professional poker player. In Duke’s Poker Room, we don’t discriminate, you see. THIS IS 1990s WWF SUPERSTARS.

Cora Jade defeated Franky Monet

Another short match. Like with Ember, I think things aren’t looking good for Franky if she isn’t called up soon.

Cora Jade came to the ring on a skateboard with a song that was straight up off of a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game from 1999. Virginia Perry, who was supposed to wrestle her, was suddenly jumped by Franky Monet, who was just standing there for…reasons?

Monet was in total control from the start, hitting knees in the corner. Trey Baxter suddenly popped up at ringside supporting Jade. Jade missed a splash in the corner and tried to rally back but Monet cut her off. Monet went for her finish but Jade rolled her up and pinned Monet.

All the tag teams in the tag team title match attacked one another backstage. Vic Joseph said that the title match was now elimination style.

Ciampa was cutting a promo when Gacy walked up to him and said he had toxic energy. He speaks for a voice struggling to be heard and basically said he wanted a title match. Ciampa said if Gacy beats him next week, he can be in the Halloween Havoc title match. Ciampa told Gacy that the ring won’t be a safe space for him next week.

Raquel Gonzalez looked mad as she was walking into the Performance Center.

Pete Dunne defeated Cameron Grimes

I liked this while it lasted, but it did not last long, the theme to most NXT TV matches these days.

Grimes started in control, but Dunne cut him off with a clothesline. He manipulated Grimes’ fingers but Grimes fought back, only to get taken down. Dunne missed a knee in the corner, allowing Grimes to make his comeback. He went to the top rope with a clothesline for a nearfall.

The two traded offense until Holland took Dunne out of the ring. O’Reilly was the latest person to appear out of thin air to attack Holland, who responded by throwing O’Reilly over the announce table. Amongst all the confusion, Dunne was able to hit the Bitter End on Grimes for the win.

O’Reilly jumped Dunne after the match, but he and Holland quickly took him out like he was nothing.

Tony D’Angelo, who has connections, is up next.

Hit Row vignette. Top Dolla made it clear they were not running away from Legado Del Fantasma. B-Fab told Elektra next time she won’t be so nice. Swerve accepted Escobar’s North American title challenge.

Von Wagner was shown helping O’Reilly to his feet after he was laid out.

Tony D’Angelo defeated Malik Blade

Not good at all. D’Angelo is nowhere near close to be on NXT television. However long this match went, it needed to be cut in half.

D’Angelo came to the ring wearing a velvet tracksuit. The crowd liked D’Angelo. Blade cut him off, hitting a dropkick that sent him out of the ring. D’Angelo was able to make a comeback. D’Angelo is not ready for NXT TV by any stretch of the imagination. Blade cut him off again and hit a crossbody for a nearfall. D’Angelo tripped Blade into the turnbuckle, hit a belly-to-belly suplex, then pinned Blade with a northern lights suplex, then slowly followed with a twisting fisherman’s buster.

Backstage, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams talked about the tag team title match. Hayes brought up he didn’t even cash in his Breakout title contract. Williams clarified they were bout it bout it.

Indi Hartwell defeated Mei Ying

Bad. Add the 10,000 year old lady who was trained by dragons to the list of people not long for this version of NXT.

The two had a very long feeling out process until Ying was able to take control with a neck hold, then eventually a nerve choke. Mei Ying shoved Hartwell into the turnbuckle outside of the ring. Persia Pirotta was the 36346th person to appear out of thin air and distracted Mei Ying, leaving the opening for Hartwell to post her in the corner.  This allowed Hartwell to pin Ying after a springboard elbow.

Backstage, Lash Legend said if you thought last week’s show was great, next week she will spill some hot tea that will make the Urban Meyer story seem tame. I am not a football guy, but Meyer I believe is a coach for the Jaguars. Who owns the Jaguars? Hmm. Anyway, Tony D’Angelo walked in and wanted to be part of next week’s show. Lash seemed interested, then talked about how she shut down Facebook and Instagram yesterday.

A Diamond Mine promo aired introducing every member of the stable, I guess for those who are new. Considering last week’s rating, there are not many new people watching this.

Raquel Gonzalez came down to the ring for a promo. She dared Mandy Rose to try and touch her title again. This brought out Toxic Attraction. Rose said she used to admire Gonzalez, but now she just comes off as desperate, knowing her title reign is about to come to an end. She said Toxic Attraction are taking over. Gigi Dolan said that they are championship material, and you can’t stop but look in awe of us. Gonzalez brought up the stitches she gave Dolan last week, which Dolan did not like.

Jacey Jayne said that we can add jealousy to go with being desperate. Jayne said that they are all over Raw and SmackDown and we are the face of NXT. Soon, they’ll be holding all the gold in NXT. They are not just Toxic Attraction, they ARE the attraction.

The trio then circled around the ring as Rose asked if they should have some fun. Zoey Stark and Io Shirai entered for the save, daring Toxic Attraction to attack. They backed down as the babyfaces stood in the ring.

O’Reilly was icing his shoulder when Von Wagner walked up to him and said whether he likes it or not, he is the only one that has O’Reilly’s back and they are taking on Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland next week.

Gonzalez, Stark, and Shirai were backstage talking about how they didn’t like Toxic Attraction more than they didn’t like each other. Hartwell and Pirotta walked up and told the Tag Team Champions that they wanted a title match as well. I guess Johnny Garango and Candice LeRae have just disappeared and we’re moving on from The Way.

MSK defeated Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake), Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs, and Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams to retain the NXT Tag Team titles

This had no choice but to be the best match on the show. Everyone looked good, even Jensen and Briggs. They are clearly green, but they looked good and did what they needed to do to be the powerhouse team in the match.

Everyone tagged in early and did their stuff. Most of it looked good. Briggs and Jensen ended up gaining control, and allowed Wes Lee to hit a running tope con hilo to the floor, taking out Hayes and Williams. MSK pinned Williams with an assisted neckbreaker off the top rope, scoring the first elimination.

Back from the break, Zack Gibson of the Grizzled Young Vets controlled Wes Lee. Drake was tagged in and took control, but MSK cut them off, with Nash Carter hitting a moonsault off the turnbuckle and to the floor, taking out the GYV. Jensen was able to tag in and quickly pinned Gibson with an assist from Briggs. That left MSK and Jensen & Briggs.

Briggs hit Lee with a big boot, with Jensen planting him with a side Russian leg sweep at the same time. The two controlled Lee, hitting a double chokeslam. Carter hit a big crossbody to the floor, taking out Jensen. In the confusion, Lee was able to get a victory roll over Briggs for the pin and to retain the titles.

Jensen and Briggs grabbed the titles after the match. They gave them to MSK as they left, establishing themselves as babyfaces. As they were leaving, Imperium (Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner) ran in and attacked MSK. Jensen and Woods came in and chased away the heels, helping MSK to their feet as the show ended.

Final Thoughts:

Well, let’s see what I can remember.

I said this on Twitter as the show was going on, but this was like if WCW Nitro booked by Vince Russo had a lovechild with 1992 WWF Superstars. Goofy gimmicks, wrestlers not even close to being ready for national television, 2 minute matches and lots of tall, good-looking people are all over this show. It’s hard to absorb anything when so much happens. I think it’s the end result of a bunch of corporate people plus Kevin Dunn and Bruce Prichard trying to figure out how to draw in the 18-49 demographic. This is what they think will work. I guess we’ll see if they’re right.

On the plus side, we have some things announced for Halloween Havoc in a few weeks and there’s a clear direction. So there’s that. The old NXT guard isn’t going to like this. But WWE doesn’t want the old NXT guard. They’ve given that floor to AEW to run away with after years of attempting, and utterly failing, to thwart them. WWE corporate wants…this. And this is what they’ll get.

WWE 205 Live results: Josh Briggs vs. Joe Gacy

Today marks the first 205 Live taping to air following the batch of recent talent cuts. It also follows the announcement of 205 Live’s welcoming of those over 205 pounds, which WWE finally mentioned after months of its happening. And perhaps even more interestingly, this is the first episode of 205 Live to run directly against AEW’s new show, Rampage.

Grayson Waller defeated Ikeman Jiro

To preface my praise for this match, I was more than disinterested heading in. This was an excellent, detail-oriented match.

Jiro gained some early momentum with offence that a prepared Waller cut off. Waller slowed the match to a crawl, connecting with move after move, each of which was interrupted by pauses. Waller tried to end the match with a pin accompanied by a handful of tights. The referee interrupted the illegal pin providing Jiro with some much-needed space.

Jiro connected with two dives after resulting in a near fall. Jiro tried for the Ikeman slash, a move Waller avoided by rolling to the outside. Waller re-entered the ring in a hurry to further interrupt Jiro with a cutter resulting in a fully convincing near fall.

Following another back and forth, Jiro connected with a beautiful hammerlock powerslam. Waller was able to kick out of the move and gain enough separation to land a curb stomp. He followed the stomp with a pin to close an excellent match.

Josh Briggs defeated Joe Gacy

This was a fun match that is entirely different from what one is used to seeing on 205 Live. Two big men were hitting each other with big men wrestling moves; it’s easy to like.

To kick off the “new” era of 205 Live, these heavyweights opened with a showcase of power. Splashes and strikes filled the opening minutes as Briggs used his weight entirely to his advantage. Gacy’s rally also featured the use of his power. Both men traded power moves and intense strikes deep into the match. It was a proper hoss fight. A colossal lariat closed the match in favour of Briggs.

Why 205 Live doesn’t pivot to a name that makes marginal sense is beyond me. WWE owns such an expansive library of already established brands that this shouldn’t be a challenge. This should be called Velocity, Heat, or anything other than 205 Live, as the show is neither live nor featuring those under 205 lbs.

Also, against Rampage, it makes no sense to watch this show live. Even if the matches are good at times, it’s wholly uneventful and entirely forgettable.

WWE 205 Live to ‘occasionally’ feature wrestlers over weight limit

This week’s 205 Live will be headlined by two wrestlers over the show’s 205-pound weight limit.

WWE has announced that Joe Gacy vs. Josh Briggs will be the main event of this Friday’s episode of 205 Live. They’ve each wrestled on 205 Live once before, appearing on the show in the lead-up to the NXT Breakout Tournament.

Gacy and Briggs both lost in the first round of the Breakout Tournament. Gacy lost to Trey Baxter, while Briggs lost to Carmelo Hayes.

“The purple brand will now occasionally play host to matches where one or multiple Superstars eclipse the 205-pound weight limit, setting the stage for a colossal main event between Gacy and Briggs,” WWE wrote.

205 Live has previously featured matches with wrestlers over 205 pounds during NXT tournaments or for matches tying in with the tournaments.

Ikemen Jiro vs. Grayson Waller is the other match that will air on this Friday’s 205 Live. Both Jiro and Waller are cruiserweights. Jiro also took part in the NXT Breakout Tournament. He lost to Duke Hudson in the first round.

Ari Sterling and Leon Ruff, who both wrestled on 205 Live last week, were released by WWE as part of last Friday’s NXT roster cuts. Jake Atlas and Asher Hale had also been featured on 205 Live but were released last Friday.

Following WWE’s purchase of EVOLVE earlier this year, more EVOLVE wrestlers have signed with WWE.

PWInsider reported today that EVOLVE Champion Josh Briggs, Brandi Lauren, Curt Stallion, and referee Jake Clemons have signed with WWE. That’s in addition to Leon Ruff and Anthony Greene signing with the company. Lauren has also recently appeared as an extra for WWE, including being a Raw Underground competitor and being part of Damian Priest’s celebration after winning the NXT North American Championship at TakeOver XXX.

It was officially confirmed in July that WWE had purchased EVOLVE. Content from EVOLVE and WWE-affiliated independent promotions PROGRESS Wrestling, ICW, and wXw began being added to the WWE Network this month, including the Best of Drew McIntyre in EVOLVE, the best of Keith Lee in EVOLVE, and EVOLVE 125 from 2019 being uploaded.

EVOLVE announces WALTER’s matches for December shows

EVOLVE has revealed WALTER’s matches for their December events.

WALTER will be in action at EVOLVE 141 in Livonia, Michigan on Friday, December 6 and EVOLVE 142 in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, December 7. He’ll face Timothy Thatcher at the Livonia show. The next night in Chicago, it will be WALTER vs. EVOLVE Champion Josh Briggs in a non-title match.

Briggs defending his EVOLVE Championship against JD Drake has also been announced for EVOLVE 141. Briggs won the title by defeating Austin Theory this past Saturday.

EVOLVE 141 is taking place at the Monaghan Knights of Columbus Hall. EVOLVE 142 is being held at Logan Square Auditorium.

WALTER is WWE’s United Kingdom Champion. He made appearances at last Friday’s SmackDown and Raw television tapings in Manchester, England. On SmackDown, Imperium (WALTER, Marcel Barthel, Fabian Aichner & Alexander Wolfe) attacked Heavy Machinery until members of the SmackDown roster came out to make the save.

WALTER answered Seth Rollins’ open challenge on last night’s Raw. Their match ended in a disqualification when Imperium attacked Rollins. It then turned into an eight-man tag, with Rollins, Kevin Owens & The Street Profits defeating Imperium.
