UFC on ESPN+ 77 live results: Jessica Andrade vs. Erin Blanchfield

Welcome to F4WOnline.com’s live coverage of UFC On ESPN+ 77: Andrade vs. Blanchfield, emanating from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Octagon is back at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas this weekend for a card headlined by two women’s flyweights on the track towards a title shot in a big spot in a fight that came together only a week ago.

Former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Jessica Andrade takes on rising prospect Erin Blanchfield in the five-round headline bout in the women’s flyweight division. Andrade is taking this fight on a week’s notice after Taila Santos was forced to pull out of the bout after her cornermen didn’t have their visas approved in time to travel to Las Vegas for the fight. Andrade is looking to extend her 3-fight win streak and is making a quick turnaround after defeating Lauren Murphy at UFC 283 last month. Blanchfield is looking to move to 5-0 during her UFC run and score the biggest win of her career.

In the co-main event, light heavyweights square off as Jordan Wright takes on recent TUF finalist Zac Pauga. Also on the main card is a heavyweight battle between Josh Parisian and Jamal Pogues, a light heavyweight fight pitting William Knight against Marcin Prachnio, and the UFC all-time wins leader Jim Miller looks to add to his record when he takes on Alexander Hernandez in a lightweight bout.

Follow along with our live coverage of the event beginning at 4 p.m. Eastern time with preliminary action all the way through the main card.

JNPO: How a Chinese UFC champion could change everything

On this week’s Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, I take a step back on a subject that I admittedly didn’t know that much about: MMA’s history in China and what a native UFC champion could mean to the country.

Helping me do that is an expert in the area: Dan Shapiro, he of this piece in The Athletic that goes deep into MMA’s path to acceptance and the road to this Saturday’s debut show in Shenzhen, headlined by strawweight champion Jessica Andrade vs. Weili Zhang.

We go into Dan’s six years living in China including how he helped promote the first MMA shows in the country, why it’s not as easy to simply go in and succeed for outsiders in China, people initially confusing WWE and MMA, what Zhang’s win could mean for future generations of potential fighters, the main events of the six shows UFC has brought to China, the strangeness of two consecutive strawweight challengers getting their shot in their home country, and more.

UFC 237 live results: Namajunas vs. Andrade, Anderson Silva in action

Welcome to F4WOnline.com’s live coverage of UFC 237: Namajunas vs. Andrade, emanating from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Octagon heads back to Brazil for the second time in 2019, this time for a pay-per-view event with a title fight on top and a card filled with past champions and both future and current members of the UFC Hall Of Fame.

In the main event, UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas heads into enemy territory to defend her title for the first time in 13 months when she takes on top contender Jessica Andrade. Meanwhile, Andrade gets her second crack at winning UFC gold, riding a three-fight win streak over Claudia Gadelha, Tecia Torres and Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

In other main card action, former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva returns to Brazil looking to get back in the win column when he takes on rising contender Jared Cannonier. Also, former two-time UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo goes for three straight wins as he looks to derail the rise of Alexander Volkanovski, winner of 16 straight fights.

In preliminary card action, light heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira looks to get his second straight win when he battles Ryan Spann, and former UFC Lightweight and Welterweight Champion and UFC Hall Of Famer BJ Penn looks to get his first win since 2010 when he takes on long-time UFC veteran and fan favorite Clay Guida.

UFC 211 Observer Panel Picks: Two titles up for grabs

In terms of fight quality and star power, UFC presents its biggest pay-per-view of the year so far tonight with UFC 211.

In the main event, heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic looks to avenge a decision loss at the hands of former champ Junior dos Santos in ia rematch from December 2014.

In the co-main event, strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk will be looking for her sixth straight title defense and eight UFC win overall as she faces former bantamweight and top contender Jessica Andrade.

Two other main card fights could have immediate title implications as Demian Maia aims for his seventh straight win as he takes on the surging Jorge Masvidal, a former lightweight who has rung up three consecutive wins. The winner will have the best claim to a title challenge against division champ Tyron Woodley.

Former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar hopes to finally earn another featherweight title shot as he faces Yair Rodriguez, one of the most dynamic contenders in any division. With Jose Aldo and Max Holloway set to meet at UFC 212 to determine an undisputed 145-pound king, this fight could determine the next challenger for that belt.

Headlining up the FX-aired prelims is a key lightweight tilt as former champion Eddie Alvarez squares off with Dustin Poirier, one of the hardest hitters in the division. Alvarez will be fighting for the first time since losing his title to Conor McGregor last November at Madison Square Garden.

If you’re new here, our panel picks are listed below and listed alongside the fighter’s names are their worldwide FightMatrix rankings, as well as BestFightOdds.com betting odds. The panelist’s 2017 records is in parentheses, and we also have panel consensus picks as well as a line where we show how the betting favorites did:

  • Dave Meltzer (23-10; .697) — Wrestling Observer publisher
  • Favorites (23-10; .697)
  • John Pollock (23-10; .697) — Fight Network analyst, Live Audio Wrestling co-host, MMA Report co-host
  • Consensus Picks (22-10; .688)
  • Mike Sawyer (22-11; .667) — Tough Talk MMA publisher

  • Steve Juon (21-12; .636) — MMA Mania writer, Angry Marks publisher
  • Mike Sempervive (19-14; .576) — Wrestling Observer Live and Big Audio Nightmare co-host
  • Josh Nason (19-14; .576) — Host of Josh Nason’s Punch-Out, WrestlingObserver.com assistant editor
  • Ryan Frederick (18-15; .545) — WrestlingObserver.com UFC writer
  • Paul Fontaine (16-17; .485) — MMADraws.com publisher, WrestlingObserver.com writer
  • Front Row Brian (15-18; .455) — MMA newsbreaker, beloved internet personality, podcast host

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (16-2) vs. Junior dos Santos (18-4) II

Many, myself included, feel that Miocic won their first fight, which headlined a Fox show in late 2014. Miocic went on to defeat Fabricio Werdum to win the heavyweight crown and will be aiming for his second title defense here against the former champion.

Dos Santos has been relatively inactive as this will be just his third fight since beating Miocic and his first fight in over a year. He has not finished an opponent in nearly four years since stopping Mark Hunt on Memorial Day weekend in 2013.

The betting lines are very close on this one, but our panel doesn’t see it quite that close.

  • Miocic #1; -125 betting favorite: Juon, FRB, Sawyer, Frederick, Fontaine, Nason, Pollock, Bixenspan, Meltzer, Sempervive

UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (13-0) vs. Jessica Andrade (16-5)

Andrade has fought more times than any woman in UFC history as tonight marks her 11th time stepping into the Octagon. She will fight for a title for the very first time as she goes up against the unstoppable-to-this-point “Joanna Champion”.

While flyweight king Demetrious Johnson recently tied the long-standing record for consecutive title defenses at 10, Jedrzejczyk is quietly approaching that record herself and has shown no signs of slowing down. Despite her long winning streak, the oddsmakers have set a fairly close line on this one.

Andrade is one of the hardest hitters in the division and the former 135-pounder will likely have the size advantage here as well. She has three straight wins in her new division including two stoppages and a one-sided beatdown of former Invicta champion Angela Hill in her last outing.

  • Jedrzejczyk #1; -160 betting favorite: Juon, FRB, Sawyer, Frederick, Fontaine, Nason, Pollock, Meltzer, Sempervive
  • Andrade #2; +165 betting underdog: Bixenspan

Demian Maia (24-6) vs. Jorge Masvidal (32-11)
WELTERWEIGHTS

Many feel that Maia has already earned a UFC title shot as the 39-year-old’s seven-fight win streak is the longest in the division. He’ll once again try to hold serve against former lightweight Masvidal, one of the gutsiest brawlers in the division who will try to pick up his fourth straight win.

Maia has an obvious advantage if the fight goes to the ground, but Masvidal is a very tough fighter to put away. His last three losses have been by split decision and he has not been finished since a submission loss in Bellator to Tody Imada in 2009.

At some point, age has to catch up to the veteran Maia, and the oddsmakers surprisingly have the former middleweight title contender set as the underdog. This should be a very close fight either way.

  • Maia #2; +113 betting underdog: Juon, FRB, Sawyer, Frederick, Nason, Pollock, Bixenspan, Sempervive
  • Masvidal #5; -110 betting favorite: Fontaine, Meltzer

Frankie Edgar (21-5-1) vs. Yair Rodriguez (10-1)
FEATHERWEIGHTS

This is a big step up in competition for Rodriguez, who has picked up main event wins in each of his last two fights, beating journeyman Alex Caceres and the legendary BJ Penn. He faces another future Hall of Famer here, although Edgar is much closer to the peak of his abilities than Penn was.

Edgar’s only loss in the last four-plus years came at the hands of division champ Jose Aldo where he took the champ the distance. Sandwiched around that loss at UFC 200 were wins over top contenders Chad Mendes, Urijah Faber, Jeremy Stephens, Cub Swanson, Charles Oliveira, as well as the aforementioned Penn.

Edgar has already lost to Aldo twice, so his best shot at another title fight would be if Holloway were to win that fight at UFC 212, but should Rodriguez emerge victorious here, he could immediately step into the next featherweight title bout.

  • Edgar #3; -122 betting favorite: Juon, Fontaine, Nason, Pollock, Meltzer
  • Rodriguez #26; +110 betting underdog: FRB, Sawyer, Frederick, Bixenspan, Sempervive

Eddie Alvarez (28-5) vs. Dustin Poirier (21-5)
LIGHTWEIGHTS

Alvarez scored one of the most surprising title wins in recent UFC history when he stopped former champ Rafael dos Anjos last July. His reign was short-lived, however, as McGregor blitzed him to capture the belt.

Another past McGregor victim stands in the way this time out as Poirier shoots for his sixth win in his last seven fights. Many have this one pegged as the leading contender for Fight of the Night as Poirier in particular has a penchant for picking up performance awards.

With the division somewhat on ice with champion McGregor focused on a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, both guys badly need a win here to maintain relevance in a tough weight class.

  • Alvarez #2; +113 betting underdog: Juon, FRB, Sawyer, Frederick, Nason, Sempervive
  • Poirier #17; -110 betting favorite: Fontaine, Pollock, Bixenspan, Meltzer

Welcome to F4WOnline.com’s live coverage of UFC Fight Night 104: Bermudez vs. The Korean Zombie, emanating from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

The event is headlined by a five-round bout in the featherweight division as Dennis Bermudez looks to make it three straight wins as he welcomes “The Korean Zombie”, Chan Sung Jung, back to the Octagon.

Bermudez has posted back-to-back wins over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Rony Jason, and he has won nine of his last eleven fights overall. Jung returns from being out of action for three-and-a-half years, two of which were due to military service in his home country of South Korea, and the rest due to recovering from injuries. Jung has been one of the most exciting fighters in the sport, being involved in many “Fight Of The Year” contenders, having won a “Submission Of The Year”, and being tied for the fastest knockout in UFC history.

In the co-main event, Alexa Grasso looks to continue her climb up the strawweight rankings as she fights in the UFC for the second time, putting her undefeated record on the line against Felice Herrig. > Tecia Torres (#6, 7-1, 3-1 UFC) vs. Bec Rawlings (7-5, 2-2 UFC)
Women’s Strawweights

Torres was really sharp with her combinations early in the round. Rawlings was just missing on a lot of her punch attempts. Torres was getting the better of the clinch action but Rawlings was landing inside the clinch as well. Torres was mixing everything well while Rawlings was relying mainly on straight punching in the opening round. Neither woman had the other in serious trouble but the volume and the action was paced by Torres. Torres got the round 10-9.

Rawlings came out strong in the second round and got an early takedown. She was all over the back of Torres and looking for a choke. Torres got out of it and they brawled in a clinch before Torres took Rawlings’ back on the mat and went hunting for a choke. Torres went working for an arm-triangle but was just landing from the top. She went for a late armbar but Rawlings escaped. Rawlings had it early but Torres came on strong. Round two 10-9 for Torres, and her up 20-18.

Rawlings was likely needing a finish here but didn’t go for the kill at all. They were exchanging and Torres was getting the better of it. Rawlings, at one point, let the crowd know they are number one. Torres was landing her combinations at will and it really made the difference in the final round, and the majority of the fight. Rawlings went for a clinch but Torres reversed it into a takedown. Rawlings ended up on top but didn’t do much from there when she had a chance. I had round three 10-9 for Torres and her winning 30-27.

Official Result- Tecia Torres def. Bec Rawlings by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

They were trading out with both feeling each other out. Tanaka got a brief takedown. Tanaka slipped on a punch and Ramos tried to soccer kick him but missed, which would have been bad. Tanaka got knocked down from a right hand and Ramos started teeing off with punches looking to finish. Tanaka looked in a ton of trouble but survived though he was wobbly on his feet.Tanaka spent the end of the round circling away. Big round for Ramos. 10-8 round for Ramos.

Ramos slowed down his pace at the start and it allowed Tanaka more time to recover. Tanaka had Ramos pressed against the fence but Ramos went to work with a takedown and on the ground. Ramos went for an armbar but Tanaka got out. Tanaka started working from the top and went for a choke but Ramos was able to get Tanaka down before they went to their feet. Ramos landed a big right hand but not much else happened after. Another round for Ramos, 10-9, and I have him up 20-17.

Ramos slowed down his pace in the third and Tanaka was starting to come on strong. Tanaka was pushing the pace and landing kicks while circling away. The crowd started to boo as there was a lack of action. Herb Dean called a timeout and chastised both men for a lack of action. Tanaka was just circling away and landing one punch here and there. Ramos, for his part, wasn’t doing much either, just landing glancing punches and kicks. Both men looked clearly tired. Tanaka scored a late takedown which likely sealed him the round. It’ll be interesting how it’s scored as the second round was close. I had round three 10-9 for Tanaka, and Ramos winning 29-27 overall.

Official Result- Ricardo Ramos def. Michinori Tanaka by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)
